Which is an equally unworkable number, so now we need three new signups.

Edit: When I posted the possible formats above, I assumed we would have at least 52 signups (including Gregory Llama Land.) Now we have 51, which is unworkable, but if absolutely necessary, I could cut GLL to make 50. This is hard to work with, so I don't want to do it unless we're absolutely unable to get three new signups within a reasonable time. So, if we have to go with 50, that leaves me two options. Ten groups of five or five groups of ten. Ten groups of five requires me to either expand to more than 16 teams in the knockout stage or say only six of ten second place teams go through, neither of which I want to do. So I would have to go with five groups of ten, which as per above would be single round robin in GGS since there are ten or more teams. The top three in each group would go through, as would the best fourth-placed team. While I really don't want a fourth-place team to go through, the same number of teams are going through either way, so it really doesn't matter. Again, I would make every attempt to get 54 or 56 teams, since I really don't like this format. But if it's been a few days after voting closes and we can't get those few signups, that's what I'd do. Sorry for throwing this in at the end of host voting, but I wasn't expecting Brit to quit. Most likely it will be one of the earlier proposed formats, but in case that proves impossible, I wanted this to be on the record.

Hey guys. Here are the results for the host bid voting process. It was unusually close:

1: Gregoryisgodistan- 2
2- Re-open host bids- 3
3- Abstain- 1

In that instance, there will be 3 more days given for the host bid process. Please submit an additional host bid to this thread by the 20th of January, in around 21:30 EST (Toronto-New York time), if you are interested in hosting for this edition of World Cup of Hockey. Gregoryisgodistan's bid will still be counted as a legitimate bid and will be included in the next voting process.

Manchardas and Oxnein are my puppet nations OOC. IC, there is no greater link between the three than there is between the UK, Russia and Ethiopia IRL, so please don't mention anything about puppetry in an IC thread.

It seems to me that adding puppets just to get to the next threshold is a meaningless solution that's just going to dilute the competition with Non-RPing entrants. If we were to exclude all puppets, we'd have 48 nations signed up, an extremely work-able number. Of course, I'm new so my opinion doesn't count for much. It just seems to me like adding names to the list just to achieve a certain number is remarkably redundant.

Maybe just message the puppet nations, and ask if they're just in as a filler nation or will really RP, would be better, because some puppets(me, for example)would RP. Also, if we just wait, at 60 nations we'll have a workable number :)

I'm personally against using far too many puppets(like 1/6 of overall nations being puppets is absurd, even in a competition like this) to just fill the whole space so that we can have 60 nations.

In the past the competition's been held with 64 or even 72 nations. I think 48's a bit too small for the competition of this size, and remember, some puppets also RP as well. Personally I try to RP as much as possible with Norrehavn in hockey, and I'm sure that some other puppets will as well as they've done so in past. And with the host bids not being decided until in about a week from now, at the earliest, the best option right now is to sit back and wait, to see if we'll have 54, 56, 60 or even 64 nations.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Since there is no specific rule that I recall correctly about puppets of first-timers being allowed to participate or not, I, as a WCoH Federation President, will make a statement for now that for this edition, signups of puppets from a first-time nation will not be permitted. In that instance New Sideburn and Dennis Bergkamp are not allowed to sign up. Right now, we'd have 53 nations signed up, but we'll wait for a bit more to see if we can find more nations to sign up without clogging up the whole competition with puppets.

Signups will be closed when the host says so, and since we don't have a host yet, that can't happen. Also, that's not how you make a host bid. Also, to quote the OP, it is not recommended to bid unless you have some host experience, which you don't have.

As for the vote earlier today, I'd appreciate hearing any concerns people who voted for RON have so I can properly address them.
