January 6 - RR MD5 (3 v 6, 2 v 4, 1 v 5)
January 7 - Rest Day
January 8 - RR MD6 (reverse of MD1), RR MD7 (reverse of MD2)
January 9 - RR MD8 (reverse of MD3), RR MD9 (reverse of MD4)
January 10 - RR MD10 (reverse of MD5)
January 11 - Rest Day
January 12 - Octo-finals/Quarterfinals
January 13 - Semifinals
January 14 - Finals, 3PPO

Cutoff will be between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM US Central Time (1600 - 1800 UTC) on the weekends and 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM (2130 - 2330 UTC) on weekdays. As stated in my bid, RP bonus would be cumulatively graded on a scale of 0 to 10 and will count for 100% of the scorination value because there are currently no ranks. RP bonus will be relative, with the highest sum total receiving a total RP bonus of 1 and other participants being scaled to the highest bonus. While a novella isn't necessary to receive good scores, RP's amounting to "I won. Yay!" will obviously not score very highly. I will not be receiving a host bonus. In the case of my fencers or teams making the knockout rounds, I will do my best to find a third party scorinator within due time.

Even as the head of the Sports committee in Sheffland, I still know complete FA about fencing. Until somebody told me there were swords in it, I literally imagined fencing to be this:

Image

As in, the act of putting fences up. I was wrong. Apparently.

I was informed of the misinformation of my brain by one of the fencers that I put in to the tournament, his name is Walen... no is it Valenty? No, it's Walenty... some Polish guy. He taught me some of the basic terminology regarding fencing. I am no closer to understanding the true meaning of the sport, however.

Apparently there are three types of swords that are used, foil and two other French things. They all look the same to me, but apparently they are different things that require an entirely different event. One thing I know is that my Pole does the foil with his mate Ben Alexander.

Of course, it was not long before my Pole and his mate wanted me to actually try the sport out before we entered any tournaments. Actually putting on the gear, like putting on the goalkeeper kit in hockey, is hard enough. Once I was in the kit I promptly got smashed, like 31-0 or something (I don't know the scoring system). Although I was a lost cause in the sport of fencing, I could see that the players of Sheffland were certainly skilled players, so I found an international competition to enter them into. The Winter Fencing Grand Prix, in Costa de Ouro, seemed like the best opportunity to do this.

So here I am, surrounded by nine people who I knew not to get into any arguments with, for they were experts in stabbing people and I didn't want to become a victim. Walking off from the airport near the beaches of Sao Alberto to our massive hotel, I suddenly had a feeling that this tournament would be a better tournament than our Community Football showing. I wont try to be the coach in this tour, however. The players know what they are doing.

Just let me know if RP hasn't started yet, I'll take it down and put it in later on.

Obscure Sports Weekly

Fencers arrive in Costa de Ouro for inaugural fencing tournament in ages
by Pegasus Ezekiel

Electrumites who are fans of obscure sports weekly are in for a treat. Every once in a while, like rare flowering plants, these events which showcase rare sports occur. A recent development by fencers around the world (scrounging up a venue and coughing up money for some prize money) has meant that a fencing tournament will be held outside the Summer Olympics, where fencers usually meet. Obviously, this tournament has less funding, and has less fencers than those who competed in the Summer Olympiad in the Kytler Peninsulae, but, Electrumite's fencers are more than happy to go to this tournament in their extremely long off-season for some training.

Electrum won two medals in the fencing last year, a gold medal in the Women's Individual epee event by Katie Phan, and a bronze medal by Christina Palmer in the women's individual foil. The men did not win any medals at all. For those who don't know the difference between the different varieties of fencing (aside from the actual 'swords' that are being used), foil only counts hits to the torso or groin whereas sabre counts for all areas above the hip, with the edge of the sword allowed to make contact, not just the tip. Both of these varieties have something called priority when both fencers attack each other at the same time (the point given to the fencer with the priority and successfully executes an attack). Epee fencing is more of a free-for-all, with all hits being counted.

Of the six fencers in the Olympic team, only three will take part in this tournament. They will be the two medallists, Katie Phan and Christina Palmer, as well as the best male fencer, Warren Prette. They will compete in all events and will also compete with each other in the team event. We wish them the best of luck.

Article from Der Nordschutzenphalenglaubreiterfluchtschlamterkrötische Flümederthelweiderverlautzällegerwißmeinschlaftsörbschlimmelbeobachter.
University team departs for fencing Grand Prix

Schutzenphalian athletes have returned to the familiar shores of Costa de Ouro, where the country's first mixed sex team competed in the 13th Handball World Cup, this time to take part in the inaugural winter competition of the Fencing Grand Prix. The team, comprising eight members of the University of Jamelberg's fencing club, will spend the next eleven days competing against fencers from around the world in open individual and team events in all three swords.

Schutzenphalia and West Ruhntuhnkuhnland has a strong tradition of academic fencing among its universities, and Jamelberg provided the majority of the fencers for the nation's Summer Olympic delegation to The Kytler Peninsulae. Seven of those feature in this tournament, with the addition of Sascha Saller, whose transgender status made her ineligible to compete in the Olympic competitions.

Fencing remains a minority sport dominated by the nobility, and seven members of the team hail from landed families, with only Heike Trommler of common birth, but the perceived class bias has not attracted much criticism, given that fencing never received the promised funding increase in the wake of the Olympics and as such remains a sport largely inaccessible to those not able to secure places at exclusive universities.

Student profile from the University of Jamelberg fencing club website.

She competed at the Ninth Summer Olympics in Zube and Bay City, reaching the octofinals of the women's individual épée and team foil. Heir to the Landgräfin of Alt-Freischultzstadt, she is studying economics and management.

Tennis Special
I seen you at the fencing academy
Our épées clashed
It was like a great fight between cavalry
But in the end, I was unabashed

Then we dueld on the green fields
You're épée stuck my padding
Thats where I had to yield
And you sent me packing

I hope there is a next time
For I shall come far
Don't bet you'll win on a dime
Because my fencing skills are more on par

JESUS!

There were 24 matches today involving Sheffland, and 23 of them we actually won! I didn't expect this, I think Sheffland will be doing well at this fence thing!

I witnessed every one of these matches, and I'm sure I would have been impressed if I actually knew what was going on. You know my Pole that I have on the team? His dad was there today. He's got an even worse accent than the accent of the actual Pole, but he managed to tell me the difference between the swords... sorry, I mean WEAPONS. A much better name, I must admit.

You see, the foil is only for stabbing the torso, and not the arms, legs or head. This is what I was playing against the actual pole, in the game where I got smashed 31-0. The epee uses the same swo... weapon as the foil, but you can stab the guy anywhere in the body. This seems like the violent game that I was imagining when I first learned that there were swords in fencing. But because of the pads, it doesn't hurt or cause life threatening stab wounds. Normally.

The sabre is pretty much a knife, just because of how sharp it is. You can go for anything above the waist except from the actual stabbing hand. This includes the head. This seems quite a dangerous sport now.

Apparently, it helps to be small. I can see why. A small, moving target would be impossible for me to hit with a hammer. I stand at 6' 1'' and I am the tallest person in the arena. I literally had to tilt my head down to look at the Pole and his mates.

There are also loads of moves that I didn't really listen to. I will never be able to know this.

But to the actual fencers. They are doing really well. Better than I had expected, to be honest. I'm looking forward to seeing them in the next round of fixtures.

We're not really putting a lot of pressure on our competitors from Walamzia to do well in this tournament, but we hope for the best from everyone.

Peace Talks: Pt 2

It had been two hours since the diplomats from the three other nations involved in the fighting in Emakia arrived. They had already been situated by the expert service staff on the island. Joseph walked to the security room under the mansion from the underground conference room. The five personnel inside the room were silently watching the flat screens that where flashing video of every corner in and outside the mansion. The man in charge looked at Joseph.

Sir?

Security check? Asked Joseph.

Smooth Sir.

Joseph nodded and walked out, He directed his attention to Elizabeth, His senior staff member in his office of affairs. Are the guest situated? Asked Joseph. "Yes, Sir". "Good... Good..." He responded. Joseph and his five delegates preceded up the marble winding stairs. Know at the door. Which was a marble sliding door electronically opened. By certain personnel using an eye scan. It blended into the marble walls. Joseph put his eyes against the scanner which then opened the door automatically. Outside the door he seen the foreign delegates, his and there security and the mansions service staff serving the diplomats who were in heavy discussion with each other. Joseph cam from behind them with his five delegates behind and two guards to he left and right.

"Ladies... Gentlemen... We are ready to receive you in the conference room". Joseph motioned to the opened secrete door with a smile. Diplomats and staff only in the conference room". "Security can go done but are not allowed in the room." "He had to make this clear. I hope we have not caused any inconveniences." He then signaled for the foreigners to come and follow him the where heading to the conference room whey're everyone would discuss peace.

When it comes to the Fencing Grand Prix, experience shows
by Pegasus Ezekiel

The Electrumite trio consisting of Warren Prette, Christina Palmer and Katie Phan had a lot to prove in this tournament, being the Electrumite representatives and Olympians. This was especially the case for Christina Palmer and Katie Phan, who had each won medals in the individual competitions of the Olympics*. But we also must not forget those who are returning from the Olympiad from other nations, with five other representatives/teams who have won medals in the Olympics. These include 2/3rds of the Avissian Union team who won the Bronze in the Women's Team Foil, 1/3rd of the Avissian Union team who won Silver in the Women's Team Epee, Gold medallist Jaco de Santigo in the Men's Sabre, Gold medallist Artur Alves in the Men's Foil and Mario von Eisenberger Nürnen who won bronze in the men's Epee.

These athletes have skill unparalleled to anyone else in the competition, and taking into account these teams and individuals in their pet events, we see that they have a combined record of 12-4^ in the first matchday, a surely impressive record. These athletes are trained to fence matches consecutively for 12-16 hour days. They are used to the sweaty uniform of their equipment, the wires that stream down their bodies from the tip of the foil, and most importantly, the wit and skill to outfox your opponent. We would like to thank the tournament organisers who have done so well in organising the massive amount of matches that need to be played, making sure no-one has clashes and ensuring the orderly movement of players within the respective competitions. Each Electrumite today played in eighteen bouts and so multiplying that by around thirty minutes per bout, and a rest in between, they really had no time off. We must salute them for their effort.

Electrum's Warren Prette, Katie Phan and Christina Palmer played in a total of 24 bouts with just 2 losses between all of them. That is a fantastic effort, with Electrum's two losses being found in the Individual Epee event, whereby Warren Prette lost to United States of Devonta's Simon Scha 15-6, and then Katie Phan lost to Nils Huffman 15 to 10. Of course, the Electrumites will have the chance to exact revenge when they cross-over in the second half of the group stage, but the hope is to advance into as many finals events as possible. Katie Phan in particular will need to pick herself up after that lost to Simon Scha, as she won the corresponding gold medal event in the Olympics. She probably lost that match as it was one of her starting matches (just her second bout of the day), and she needed to get a feel for the arena and the playing conditions there.

Let's hope Electrum's success continues.

*We forgot to mention Electrum's gold medal victory in the Women's team epee last time (Katie/Christina/Zohar Membrani). Katie Phan won gold in the Individual Epee, and Christina Palmer won bronze in the Individual Foil.
^Strangely, The Avissian Union's gold medallist in Artur Alves lost both of his individual matches today. Maybe he was a bit off the game?

Student profile from the University of Jamelberg fencing club website.
    Wolfgang von Wulfsruhe am Ruhntuhnkuhn
Age: 23 Height: 1.98 m Weight: 83 kg Hand: Right

Holding the inherited title of Ritter von Wulfsruhe am Ruhntuhnkuhn, Wolfgang's tall figure has been a familiar sight on the Schutzenphalian fencing scene since he was a teenager. He competed in the Olympic foil event, reaching the third round of the individual competition, and is primarily known for his exceptional defence. His reach allows him to counter effectively, and he is a conservative fencer relying more on drawing errors than on energetic attacks. He is attending the University of Jamelberg for two years as part of an exchange program with the Naval War College, and holds the rank of Slörgenleutnant zur See in the Schutzenphalian Navy, serving as a junior officer in the Naval Regiment.

Postby The Aspari Syndicate » Mon Jan 05, 2015 3:20 pm

The Aspari Syndicate had proven throughly unaware of precisely what was going on in Costa de Ouro. While certainly a factor in geopolitical arena, it was a tragic truth that Syndicated Citizens were by and large unaware of the name of the nation, much less that a high-profile fencing tournament was going on there. This was precisely the reason that Araia Talos had gathered his board in his office, in spite of the harsh winter sweeping Aspari Central. Rhyne Winters, his Director of Interventions and designated alpha-female looked abdjectly unconcerned for either the weather or the tournament. The Director of International Relations, on the other hand, was the opposite in almost every possible way; Ms. Claire Vaughn, a New Yorker by birth, was wrapped in a massive fur coat and scarf despite the mild temperature of the board room. In spite of her quivering, her gloved hands held several datachips loaded with information, facts, and figures all about Costa de Ouro and the Grand Prix alike, along with an expression of almost-childlike excitement. Calico Argent also appeared to be brimming with anticipation; the Director of Acquisitions was always primed for an opportunity to increase the profit margin, and he was eagerly browsing a number of tabs regarding potential avenues of increasing awareness. Gary Chang, the head researcher of West Meld Limited, a wholly owned Aspari Subsidiary, was obviously a bit confused as to his purpose behind being present.

Araia took his seat, with the others following suit quickly and quietly; from the table, small AR displays began displaying several breakfast options as fresh tea was brewed and poured for all present. Araia enjoyed these small touches of luxury he could offer to his compatriots, and as the strong smell of tea filled the air, he began his presentation.

"Good morning, one and all. I'm confident that you've all heard about the substantial lack of interest in the upcoming fencing tournament, and how it will be impacting sales for next quarter. The reason I've gathered you here today is to brainstorm ideas for how we can go about drumming up interest in this competition, and how we can ensure our athletes have the edge. Keep your thoughts fertile, and let the ideas grow; for now, nothing is outside the realm of possibility. Enjoy your breakfasts, savor and ponder. We will begin shortly, but for now... Take your time."

He smiled pleasantly, and set to work assembling his own order.

Several hours later...

A number of excellent ideas had come forth from all present. Not all were actionable, but most held at least some merit. The day had covered three meals, two breaks at the shooting range, and one high-stakes game of Cards Against Humanity, but all present felt their creative juices flowing. The first concept was a dual-barreled advertising approach, with the first layer playing to the frigid winter hitting the Syndicate via weather advisories and enhanced coverage of storms, and the second encouraging vacationing to warmer nations... nations such as Costa de Ouro. These would also be layered with mild subliminals designated to stimulate the competitive portions of an individual's ego. Further interspersed with these were references to the Grand Prix itself, in hopes of stimulating interest in the competition. The second plan was a bit more personal; utilising holistic data drawn from both footage taken during the events and the subject's own DART readings, the athletes training regimines would be carefully modified to ensure that their varying strengths were enhanced. However, this came at the moderate expense of versatility; it would be a risk, of course, but "high-risk high-reward" was the Syndicate way. The fencers from Aspari would be going into the next round with a dramatically more offensive mindset, and the skills to back it up. Last but not least, the ATV network was given instructions to run coverage of the tournament alongside news of the Syndicate's recent victory in Newne Thernania; there was nothing like winning a war to boost feelings of patriotism and pride. It was hoped that these measures would both improve viewership of the proceedings and give the Aspari fencers an edge in the competition.

Dangers at Sea
Look out! The waves reach
Beyond the ship's bow and stern
It has us in hand
But I now see gentle rays
and the storm's end

Tossing and turning
Up to the merciful sea
The fate of this ship -
Land ho! Is that a harbor?
If so, our ship will be saved

Pirates on both sides -
Cannons ready to mince us
We might be doomed now -
Now the might of the navy
Is our salvation from them

Rocky shoals, sandbar
We could fall prey to either
Vultures circle now
Now a favorable wind
Will blow me away - I'm saved

Mutiny today!
Crewmembers attempt to take
Control of the ship
The captain remains in control
At least for another day

This is your cutoff for today. (Aspari Syndicate, you are A-OK)

Results will be posted in a new post.

Incursion: Part 1

First Sargent Johnson was lost in is thoughts head against the troop department of the HH-60, With his eyes closed, Thoughts mostly clouded from the horrors off the war in Ezmexica and Intonisia, All which the men of the 1st Para Recon Battalion new to well, They fought bloody battles in cities like Norman and Nebresk and suffered heavy casualties and many set backs, Facing a force with the numerical advantage. Although Para Recon and other allied forces ended up on the winning side... Some of the enemies of Johnson's nation back in the war in Intonisia where his allies now, Most notoriously Paketo... Who had been one of the biggest enemy of Devontan forces in that area of operation. The 1st lost over 4/5ths of its number in the war, Over half of Johnson's squad where not originally there when the war in Intonisia started.

He slowly opened his eyes when he felt a tapping on his arm, He looked to his right it was the squad leader 1st Lieutenant Tucker Dawn, "Sir?" Asked Johnson. "Five minutes till we hit the LZ, Luckily its a cold one" Answered the Lieutenant. Johnson smiled..."I hope". Approximately five minutes later the 25 HH-60s reached the cold LZ at different drop points, The same LZ cleared by New Korongo forces. In there HH-60 distant explosions could be herd probably allied airstrikes on Islamist positions in the mountains, Johnson thought. Johnson new some of the planes where planes from the navy helping in the operation, In fact a squadron of F-35Cs was providing air support and cover with allied bombers, jets, and attack helicopters. Not to mention the two Avenger drones conducting recon on the mountains. Due to the wind which had subsided a bit, Although not enough the Co-pilot had to use hand signals to keep the drop under control, While the pilot kept the chopper in control. The crew chiefs provided firing support with there 7.62s or Mini-Guns. After the signal for the Para Recon men to jump and leave the helicopters the Lieutenant was the first on to jump, A almost two meter fall. Before they reached the LZ Johnson and the other men of the squad armed there weapons and deployed there black tactical masks on there faces, Which covered half of the face. All Para Recon men where required to have on the tactical masks.

Johnson landed on his feet, so did a majority of the Para Recon men, A few paratroopers did not but where helped up by there comrades. A new fresh PFC from the squad had fallen next to Johnson, Which Johnson then helped him on his feet. "It happens to all of us on are first time kid" He said as he patted the young paratrooper on his body armored covered back. The PFC smiled. Johnson looked just in time to see a allied attack helicopter completely plaster a mountain thousands of meters away, "Unlucky SOBs!" Exclaimed the Lieutenant. The hole 500 man drop took just 13 minutes with no loses due to the cold LZ, The HH-60s stayed back behind most of the allied attack helicopters since they where not equipped for air support like an attack helicopter was. Johnson's squad was helping unlatch one of the ten M-Raps from there drop platform, Which only took around five minutes. Although Johnson doubted how effective the M-Raps where going to be in the mountainous terrain... He did not doubt there off road worthiness though. The paratroopers then formed up into five companies each with there own objective and in support of New Korongo forces already fighting. The mortar battery would provide fire support for the allied troops, And could be deployed any where quickly. As the paratroopers moved behind the New Korongo forces on foot up a hill Johnson was seriously thinking of retirement. "If I survive this, I'm going to retire!" He smiled.

Fencing Grand Prix Organizers Struggle for Funding
Tuesday, January 6
Story by Aleixo Roberto Gomes

Fencing is one of the sports that resides on the border of the Avissian public consciousness: partly there, partly not there. On one hand, the fencing community was energized by the Avissian Union's medal haul in the Olympics - out of a possible ten golds, the Avissian Union won two of them, as well as a silver and a bronze. After that result, fencing's popularity has been on the rise in the Avissian Union. However, on the other hand, fencing is still a "fringe sport" in the eyes of many Avissians, paling in comparison to traditional Avissian sports like tennis, swimming, football, handball, and volleyball. The first Fencing Grand Prix, the first fencing event outside the Olympics, is set amidst this backdrop.

Funding for this event - money to change venues, provide housing, and above all, prize money - was initially hard to come by for fencing organizers. "At first, it was hard to raise money. It seemed like nobody was able to get anybody to agree to anything," said Xavier Rodrigues, the chair of the Avissian Union Fencing Federation (AUFF) and the Antillia Grand Prix Organizing Committee (AGPOC). "Interest was minimal and we had trouble attracting sponsors." What they did have up to this point was minimal: although the Avissian government did promise monetary aid and the use of the Antillia Cube indoor venue, those only covered about 25% of the planned operating costs, around $50 million. Something had to be done.

After several days of meetings and negotiations, however, the committee did make some progress in corralling the needed funds. The Costa de Ouro Tourism Board agreed to provide about $3 million in sponsorship; the bank BCA agreed to provide a further $5 million. The committee signed deals with the major TV stations in Costa de Ouro and Morroseta, as well as some channels throughout Astyria. Seating arrangements will bring in several more million, as well as sale of memorabilia. Fencing manufacturer Delacruz agreed to provide custom-made swords, which were auctioned off to fencing enthusiasts and collectors.

Those stop gap measures have appeared to move the tournament into solvency, allowing for more prize money to be paid to athletes as well as putting the tournament in the black. "I am very glad that the committee was able to come up with creative solutions to fund this tournament, as well as their work in wooing sponsors," said chairman Rodrigues. "I am extremely proud of the hard work that they put into making this tournament a success. Now we will be dedicated to making sure that the fencers are having a good time here in Antillia."

Another boon to the tournament came when King Pedro I gave the tournament his royal blessing, telling Avissian competitors that he would personally watch any knockout round matches, should they qualify for them. "I am extremely proud of the hard work these fencers have put in to training for this tournament. To ignore that hard work would be an extreme disservice, both to them and to this country. It will therefore be my pleasure to support the inaugural Fencing Grand Prix to be held in Antillia." As a result of his announcement, sponsors rushed to sign on, and tickets were snapped up.

That may have been partially to the Committee's idea to promote the competitive as well as the exciting nature of fencing. "My committee came up with the idea," chairman Rodrigues told us. "They created several highly compelling advertisements for television networks that were done on a limited budget basis. They again showed me what they could do to help our tournament." The ads turned out to be highly successful, and many viewers were attracted to the sport by them.

So far, no Avissian sits atop their group, with Ana Perreira sitting second in epee, Alexandra Serafim sitting second in foil, the Avissian team second in their foil team group, and Liliana Mendes second in her sabre group. Epee gold medalist Artur Alves is currently 4th, and sabre gold medalist Jaco de Santigo is third, both disappointing starts for the experienced fencers. Both, as well as Ana Isabel Henrique, who is also sitting third, hope to advance to the knockout rounds of the event.

"It sure has been disappointing for me, losing two matches so far, but hopefully those will be the only two that I lose in the rest of the tournament," Jaco de Santigo told VVC. "I'm hopeful that my performance will improve in the next several days so that I am atop my group, and hopefully I will win a medal." Artur Alves also echoed those sentiments. "Maybe it was just first day jitters, playing on home soil, knowing I can do better but my body won't let me do better. Today my plan is to win from now on."

Qocaekian Fencing Network

The people of Qocaekia, are very eager to watch the tournament and how well the fencers are doing. Very eager indeed, they even broke into the network building, demanding us to fix the broken server quicker so that they can watch.

Well we did it.

The results aren't all that pretty, though, since the fencers are all students in vigorous schools of different level (it is common in the highly competitive Qocaekian Isles), and they are having the hell-like finals week now. I am personally surprised that they can manage to do this well despite all the stress.

Well here we'll take a look at some of our notable athletes.

Epee: Miss Alexandra Micheals is from a family of notable lawyers and politicians. She started fencing when she was 12 years old, in the town of

Aron, where she was born. Being 178 centimeters of height, she certainly has the reach over her opponents. She playing style consists of

aggressive parry-fleches, and her right handed pistol grip gives her the power to do so. Now 22 years of age, she studies in Aron University,

majoring in Biology which is a first in her family.

Foil: Mr. Felix Lovegood is related, as you can tell from his surname, to the prominent magical Lovegood family. Not directly though, otherwise he

would be playing the family sport of Quidditch instead. This 21 years old ginger is left handed and 184 cm tall. His lunges are deadly with the

French grip and his lightening speed enables him to do pretty much anything. This red headed boy has an attractive ponytail, which is self-

explanatory since he is studying art in the University of Beauteqois.

Sabre: Mr. Robert DeJounge is a Dutch-speaking immigrant who is a prominent gardener with undiscovered fencing talent. He has been fencing in

Hovzah, which is a country with trash sports ability, which caused his talent to be hidden for all those years. Being the oldest on the squad, the

28 years old gentleman is currently studying arts in the University of Beauteqois graduate school. He is not too tall, and right-handed, nothing

special here. But he sure has exceptional ability once he steps onto the piste.

After all, although our athletes are having a hard time managing their time, we still wish all of them the very best luck, and we believe that they are going to do very well in this tournament!

See what happens when school starts and I can't find the thread? :p I'll live.

Here's an RP for you.

The Last Rites of the Sea

O'er every mast in the savage seas,
Stand high the waves of Throngar,
Whipped into froth by his stormy tail,
Crash on the decks below.
Woe to the seaman, tossed and rocked,
Who ventures in the night,
For as the sea screams out its hate,
So dims another soul.
But when the rage of the gods are spent,
And the northern wind dies down,
There comes a calm in the foaming waves,
And the sea greets again her sons.
Even as the sea-god meets
His children in the fold,
He sees them find that battered hulks
And the ones who died in the night.
And the songs of woe and harsh lament
Sung through the misty air
Bring to his mind the days of old,
And the pain his children felt.

The candle flickered in its glass cage, waving like a reed in the storm. Every breath of air caused the light to change in the small room, shadows dancing in every imaginable pattern. The cabin was silent but for the lapping of water on the hull outside and the steady creaking of the ship's timbers. As the vessel shifted in the wind, the pen of the letter's author rolling back and forth on the desk where he had penned his final verse. The candle sputtered gently, and then died, leaving the room in black silence. It seemed almost natural that the ship would remain in darkness, the same darkness as the night that had spelled the end of her brave crew. Despite all nobility and honor, there was no depriving Throngar of the souls of the sailors he called to his breast. This the ship knew, and thus had allowed her faithful servants to be given over to the ocean waves without a fight.

She knew what struggle meant. There was no fighting the immortal and powerful god of the ocean depths. She had seen the fury with which he called for his children, and had seen the carnage that such defiance had wreaked upon vessels who resisted. Many a day had her noble crew changed her course and lowered her sails to scavenge the wreckage of some poor sloop for any living thing that could survive the god's wrath. But with every hulk it was the same story. None who sailed the ocean waves could fully escape the call of the god.

She had known when the time had come. The way that the wind tore at her draping sails, and the way that the water had pounded at her sides. There was nothing to do but to submit to the sea, allowing her friends and companions to be taken to the depths to serve their king. Now her halls were empty, echoing not the sounds of voices but the lapping of the very waves that had taken them away forever.

She knew that they would find her. They always did. Be it by seeing her bones washed upon the shoreline or seeing her tattered sails flapping the the salt breeze, the other men would find her and search her for her masters. But they were gone, down into the depths forever. In the distance she could faintly hear them now, the cries of the watchmen and the hiss of spray on planks. Even now, the barque hauled her in with ropes, tying her secure to the rails with skillful hands. And even now she was searched for her masters. But there was no hope. Gone they were.

At last, a lone man entered the small cabin, holding a single flickering lantern. He looked in every corner for any sign of an occupant, but there was none to be found. As he turned to leave, his eye caught the scrap of parchment on the small table, and he stopped to read the words of his brother of the sea. Silently his eyes skimmed the verse, until he reached the end. He stared at the paper long after he finished, and then placed it reverently on the table again. It was right to let it return to its writer. He left the room quietly, and then the ship was again at peace.

She knew it was coming. It happened every time a vessel was found adrift, the ritual burning of souls. But when it did, the lack of pain surprised her. It was a warm feeling, as the fire licked at her timbers and gnawed at her bones. Her glorious days were over, but there would be others to carry on where she had left off. That comforted her.

As she sank beneath the waves, she listened to the words of the men above as they spoke the last requiem of the sunken sailors. It took on a new meaning when it was for you and the crew you had carried for so long.

Throngar, the keeper of the seas, we ask that you give our brothers peace. They have descended into your depths, and we ask that you give them the strength to stand before you and answer the rites that you preform. Even as the sails billow above our heads, we ask you to. .

Finger on the pulse: A half-time review of Electrum's performance in the Fencing Grand Prix
by Pegasus Ezekiel

When a tournament reaches the halfway point of the qualification process, teams and players may feel crestfallen about their chances of proceeding to the next round. Indeed, just in the World Cup, Electrum was sitting in fifth place halfway through qualification and by the end of qualification? They were sitting in second place, and won a spot in the playoffs. The point of that example was to show that any mistakes or any doubts in the first half of competition can be cleared in the second half. Indeed, it is still possible for anyone, even those coming in last place to make a come back and somehow find their way back into the finals, unlikely yes, but impossible, no. In saying that however, let's track the progress of the three Electrumites in the three major disciplines of fencing, epee, foil and saber.

Epee
Christina Palmer and Katie Phan reside in the top spot of their group, Christina Palmer having not lost a single match so far, and Katie Phan with a singular loss. Katie Phan will have much to prove in this tournament, as this is her pet tournament (She has won both the team and individual epee gold medals in the Olympics), whilst Christina is performing as expected (winning the team event with Katie). Warren Prette is second place in his group, with four wins and a loss to United States of Devonta's Simon Scha. In the team event, they are currently sitting on top of the leaderboard with wins against every other team in the group, 3-0.

Foil
Both Christina Palmer and Warren Prette are sitting in the top position in the foil events, with both of them sitting on five straight wins. Warren Prette will be looking for some redemption in this event, after he was knocked out in the finals side of the event in the Olympics, and this is the best event he performs at. Christina Palmer will be looking to match her bronze-medal form that she had in the respective Olympics event. As for Katie Phan, this is not her event at all, coming in third place (on HTH score) with three wins and two losses. Anyone can still win that group however, and she could make a comeback. As expected, in the team event, Electrum leads the group with 5-0.

Sabre
In this fast paced, and frenetic version of fencing (I like to call it fencing on steroids), a hit anywhere counts, and both Katie Phan and Warren Prette are in the lead of their respective groups with five wins in a row. Christina Palmer has four wins and a loss, and is sitting in second place in her group, sabre of course being the weakest form of fencing for her. In the teams side of things, they are sitting in second place after a loss to the Devontan team with four wins and a loss. With those results, it means that Electrum is in good stead to advance to the next round. Each individual is at the top of their group for two events, and sitting in second place in the other. In the team events, they are leading two of three of their groups. They have made Electrum proud and should be commended for their hard work.

Incursion: Part 2

The F-35Cs had gone rearm and Company C had been acting as the rear guard for the battalion on there long slow track across the country side, While the battalion as a hole had been acting as the rear guard for the New Korongo forces the battalion had been trailing all day. It all started when helicopter pilots spotted a large but smaller Islamist force trailing the battalion, Later confirmed by Avenger and Switchblade UAVs.

The four forward companies where ordered to halt and form a large but tight perimeter around three large rocky hills in the mountain range. Eighteen Scorpion Mine Systems where placed as a first defense measure, The Scorpions where equipped with four anti-personnel munitions discs full of thick metal BBs which had a kill radius of 30 meters, Each system was controlled by one paratrooper who could guide the smart munitions over a near by target, Launching them 1-4 times at a time. The next line of defense was the main perimeter which contained most of the paratroopers, If it was to be attacked the enemy would have to go up a steep cliff on all directions. The secondary perimeter contained a smaller force surrounding the mortar battery and parked M-Raps that where behind rocks, Also here where expertly placed snipers who spanned past all the defenses. These snipers where some of the best in Devonta. It was clear the paratroopers might be here all night.

Company C was ordered to stay put and set up positions to counter the Islamist away from the main mass of the battalion, The firefight could be herd by the near by paratroopers who watched through UAV footage and electronic binoculars. It was quick and decisive although too most of the paratroopers it was to quick and the Islamist retreated to fast... Training had drilled the art of ambush in there heads. Although during the firefight communications with the company had been lost through the crowded radio traffic. Finally, As the battle seemed to get further not closer Major. Marcus Short commander of Company C could be herd on the radios of all the squads in the battalion...
