I REALLY frown on someone other than the champion posting the last IC post of a RP. Like I wish it were against the rules frown on it.

Congrats to Ko-oren on winning the title and to Del for doing such a great job as host!

I really want the chance to post something, since I didn't have the chance, due to summer classes. :(

Question though, I kinda expected more displays of offensive firepower in the playoffs (since we're dealing with the strongest teams here), so why are they such low scoring?

Ko-oren runs with a -5 style mod, so their matches are more likely to be defensive in nature. I am curious as to why their style was so overpowering regardless of their opponent's style, but we can probably just chalk that up to scorinator quirks.

Thanks to everyone for making it a great tournament, and to Delaclava in particular for a perfect hosting job!

The -5 can have some strange effects, but it's very rare to see these effects in so many consecutive games. There's usually a few shootouts I'm involved in, but somehow all of my last 5 or so games were extremely low scoring. It makes sense ICly, so that's a good thing.

Hello, football fans!
I have been thinking that I will open up signups for the next World Bowl this coming weekend. This can get us rolling with the competition in early October. Sound good?

Sounds good! Also, I'll finish up the rankings once my half of WCQ scorination is over. They're nearly done, I think I had to finish the semis on from the double-elim.

I talked more about this during the tournament itself, but I think we may need to ignore the first loss in the double elimination format, or something along those lines. As it currently stands, every single team (besides Ko-oren obviously) is getting punished for making it past the first round of the playoffs, since they're getting an extra loss no matter what.

I don't know if I have the authority to make that call by myself but if so, I'm definitely going to do it. All the teams who made it past the round of 16 drop in the rankings once you include their double-elim results, even me and FFR.

I agree with both posts as well. When I created the format for XXXIX, it was never my intent that a team would be penalized for reaching that double elimination stage.

Alright, so I went and did the legwork for the rest of the ranks. Here's a direct comparison between ranks that would include BOTH double-elimination losses, and one that only includes a nation's wins and second loss (the one that eliminates them for good).

Both show the Top 25 and their raw rank number.

I don't know if the overall tells us too much, but I do agree with your conclusion. I certainly recall that some of the Round of 16 losers like myself had won more WB39 points by not losing twice which isn't fair. And to think of a case like Jeckland - unranked, managed to consistently RP and get through a tight group, then spring the upset of the tournament against Ranoria, only to get dinged for it?

I also think including both losses unnecessarily creates a bigger gap between the champion - who already gets credited with a perfect record regardless of how many losses they actually took - and the other teams in that competition.

Yeah, this is what my thinking is. I mean, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't change much except a few decimal points and some nations sliding down a couple slots (which I guess could throw someone in a lower pot on an edge case), but I feel like it'd be good to set a precedent.

All this has made me realize that, besides winning the World Bowl, the most important thing you can do for your rank is go undefeated in the group stage. If you do that, your end result in the playoffs doesn't matter as much, as far as retaining a rank. Just something to think about.

I would just like to remind or point out that this vote is only open to World Bowl Assembly members. A couple non-Assembly nations have sent a TG.

The group draw has been re-added to the OP, now accounting for GVH taking over Coraspia's spot and Velstrania's ranking.
