The Sour Kind
"I only know one thing, that is I know nothing"

Commentaries | Timothy Jozua

The recent defeat by the DBC XI team by the Primero Liga All Stars team struck a chord with me. It was a humiliating 4-0 defeat by the national team side that proved their worth with a third place finish in the 49th edition of the Di Bradini Cup or the 70th U21 World Cup. This was their 2nd best showing following a victory in the 43rd Di Bradini Cup. This confronted the difference between the national team setup and the club set ups. The Youth All Stars were all struck up with creativity, pride and worth while the supposed national team side were unmotivated and rigid.

This match unwillingly got intertwined in the recent battle between the club and national team set ups, a somewhat political turmoil. In the recent Mapletish Sports Federation Chairperson elections, the incumbent Raymond Butler attempted to run for a re-election while his challenger, Andre Figueroa proved to be one of the toughest challenger the incumbent has seen in a long while. The Chairperson elections nonetheless was won by Mr Butler who was seeking his 2nd term in office. This followed calls by the MBSO Board Member, Andre Figueroa call to reform the Maplish national sports system. Running a campaign of "righting the wrong", Figueroa shocked the Maplish sports scene as the chairpersons of various national sports associations were looking behind their tails. Following his promise to fire all chairpersons who were not fulfilling their duties and to revamp the system, the stakeholders responsible for voting the MSF Chairpersons might have steered clear from trying to rock the boat too much.

The votes were clear 70-30 in favour for the re-election of Raymond Butler. In response to calls for RFAM chairperson Pittman to resign, and his refusal to do so, Butler expressed his views. "I would think that Pittman is trying to put his leadership to good use and to steer Maplish football back into the right direction following the recent demise of national football. His efforts in the football leagues were clear evidence of his enthusiasm and ability to manage." This can be seen as sort of a mild support for Pittman and for Pittman to toe the line, following Butler's cautious yet supportive comments.

Figueroa on the other hand together with the Mapletish Board of Sports Organisations re-affirmed their boycott for the national teams until they were able to "right the wrongs", in an ambitious attempt to over run the whole national sports system that is indeed funded and participated in large demand by the prowess of the MBSO. This was put in full display following the recent conclusion of the Mapletish Grand Prix completely ran by the 20 sports organisations/ sports clubs, including the building, maintenance and management of the 15 racing circuits in the MGPC set up. The entire MGPC season went without a hitch and was highly successful with high viewership and sponsorship opportunities for MBSO's corporate partners, making the MGPC one of the most expensive sports championships/ leagues in the Maplish sporting system.

As a sports fan, I am not sure whether all this political turmoil or politics is important for the progress of sports but I guess, we let nature take its course right?

Mapletish Rugby Union Premiership Season 8

Postby Mapletish » Mon Jan 04, 2021 3:13 am

Mapletish Rugby Union Premiership Season 8

Image

Preview
The 8th season of the Rugby Union Premiership kicks off with SC Galatasaray defending their title in a closely knitted fight in Premiership Season 7. They only managed to finish above Home United, who was in second place by winning 3 more matches more than them, or were ahead of Home United by 9 points. The Premiership win for Galatasaray was also their first title, while the same could not be said about Home United, who were on a title drought following their third straight season without winning the Premiership. They have had three titles in their bag following victories in Season 2 to 4. They were also the most successful rugby union team in the post seasons, having won 5 of the last 6 George Cup, only missing out in George Cup 5 as Celtics Rovers broke Home United's winning streak. That Season was also Celtics Rovers' season to remember, in addition to edging Home United out in the George Cup finals, they also took home the Premiership title, marking their only title in the seasons they played in the Premiership. They, however failed to finish within the George Cup playoffs spot last season out as they drifted in the 15th position.

Last season's King Majesto Cup was also swept by Home United, who took 2 of the last 4 King Majesto Cup victories. They were only overshadowed by fellow rivals Golden Phoenix and Versatio Giants. Golden Eagles thought they had a pretty good chance finishing top of Group C before trashing Northampton, while Home United pulled a closed one against Galatasaray. The finals saw Home United edged out Golden Eagles, clinching the Cup and also showing why they would finish above them in the Premiership tables thereafter. Golden Phoenix had a season to forget in Season 7 as they failed to be much of a title threat, only managing to shake things up a little by only filling up the numbers to allow the commencement of the George Cup. However, it was a commendable George Cup thereafter as they made short work of Golden Eagles in the Quarter-Finals before crushing out against Home United in a high scoring Super El Clasico match up semi-finals.

Will Galatasaray defend their title and become the 2nd team in the Premiership to defend their title, other than Home United or will the latter take back what is theirs?

20 SC Galatasaray 38 13 3 22 398 502 −104 42

In a great turn of events, defending champions SC Galatasaray not only failed to defend their title, they have also finished at the bottom of the Premiership. The ever-competitive Premiership and battle amongst the biggest 20 sports clubs in Mapletish continues, as Home United sealed their forth title in the Premiership history, solidifying their grip as the best in the Premiership and the best in club rugby union. They were only able to seal the title after finishing ahead of SC Porto by points difference, even though the latter have won one more match than them. This has some fans looking to flame the Premiership for being biased towards attacking teams rather than teams who win matches. The George Cup playoff spots were rounded up with Golden Phoenix being the last team to be inside the George Cup playoffs, after being ranked eighth in the league, finishing levelled on points with Moonchester United but clocking 2 fewer victories than Moonchester United, only ahead with a superior point difference than their counter parts in ninth position. Pittsurgh, 2x Premiership winners have failed to qualify for the post season George Cup once again, failing to do the same in Season 7.

Post Season Playoffs

Quarter-Finals
Versatio Giants 7–7 Golden Phoenix (7–10 AET)
Home United 7–3 SC Porto
Moonchester City 6–8 Balmope Betis
Club Atletico 3–21 Struggait United

Semi-Finals
Golden Phoenix 10–14 Home United
Balmope Betis 6–21 Struggait United

Finals
Home United 22–16 Struggait United

Home United sealed the George Cup, with a close win against Struggait United, sealing their double wins of the Premiership and the George Cup. The route to this trophy was not the smoothest of rides though, as they met with Porto right off the bat and was able to withhold Porto's scoring opportunities to 1 penalty goal. Porto were not saints themselves as they withhold Home United to only 1 try in the game as the former made full use of their advantage by converting their conversion kicks as well as both sides dominated the midfield and scrambled for possession for the ball.

Home United met with arch rivals Golden Phoenix who came into the semi-finals, having overcome Versatio Giants previously. It was an equally close match which was decided by extra time, both sides held onto a try and a conversion goal as they too battled for the possession of the ball instead of making in roads into the scoring zones of both sides. It was Golden Phoenix who made use of their great kicking with a long range drop kick goal which basically sealed the match for Golden Phoenix. The semi-finals match up was a heated affair as Home United ramped in 2 tries and converted 2 conversions while Golden Phoenix put in 1 try, made the conversion and scored from a penalty goal.

Semi-Finals
Home United 21–3 Northampton
Golden Phoenix 15–6 Djax

3rd Place Playoff
Northampton 10–3 Djax

Finals
Golden Phoenix 0–14 Home United

The group stage produced four clear winners, Home United, Northampton, Golden Phoenix and Djax as each of these teams qualified three points ahead of the second placed team sealing their fated semi-finals encounter. Home United were lucky to avoid arch rivals once again in the semi-finals and were contented to hand 3 tries and 3 conversions over to Northampton who only managed a penalty goal. Golden Phoenix on the other hand took 2 tries, 1 conversion and 1 penalty goal to overcome Djax who managed 2 penalty goals. Northampton then made short work of Djax, finishing with 2 tries and 0 conversions while Djax made it home alive in 4th with a penalty goal.

The finals was another Super El Clasico as Home United faced off Golden Phoenix once again. It was a crucial match up for both sides as Golden Phoenix looked to add another King's Majesto Cup to their cabinet, while Home United went in as defending champions and with the goal to secure another trophy which will help them secure their season triple, if so they wished. The match was dominated by Home United as 2 quick tries and 2 conversions later, Golden Phoenix were unable to get back on their feet with Home United dictating play and forcing their hands on Golden Phoenix's half of the pitch which did not allow for the effective usage of counter attacking tactics from Golden Phoenix's side. Home United sealed their win and won the triple.

Association Football League Season XVIII: Part 1

Postby Mapletish » Thu Mar 25, 2021 11:18 pm

Season XVIII Preview
Season 18 saw the 64 professional football organisations/clubs league structure reduced to a 32 team league structure. This is the second time the professional football league structure saw a reformation. The 4 divisions in the professional league structure is also shrunk to 2 divisions. This meant that Liga Tercero and Liga Cuarto are officially disbanded and the football clubs in those divisions sort merger with other clubs. As of the reformation of the football league structure, none of the football clubs sort for disbandment of their organisations. This season will see first time winners and defending champions of the Primero Liga, Golden Eagles going up head to head with Mapletish Cup winners, Home United in the pre-season curtain riser, the FA Community Shield. Should Home United win the pre season curtain riser once again, it will the Protectors' 13th Community Shield victory, while if Golden Eagles wins it, it will be their first win. Home United were also the second placed team in the Primero Liga in Season 17, missing out from the title by a mere 1 point while 2nd runner ups, SC Milan were behind Home United by just a point, making the last edition of the Primero Liga one of the most competitive in all of its season's contestations. This will also mark the sixth season running for Home United to miss out on the title. The 7 time winners are joined by 4 time winners, Golden Phoenix in the waiting game to gun for the title once again. Golden Phoenix last won the title in Season 15. Talking about last season's winners, Golden Eagles, they join the one timer club, a group of clubs who managed to win the Primero Liga once in their tenure in the league, traditionally dominated by the two heavyweights from Struggait, Home United and Golden Phoenix. The one timer club also included SC Galatasaray (Season 10 winners), Celtics Rovers (Season 12 winners), Club Atletico (Season 13 winners), Balmope Betis (Season 14 winners) and Versatio Giants (Season 16 winners). It looks to see who is able to get out of the one timer club, or will the title go back to the Struggait once again with either Home United or Golden Phoenix taking the honours, or will luck be shinning on some other club who will come from behind to take the title.

Golden Eagles
Stadium: Excellence Ground [65,000] Manager: Ismael Raimundo Location: Atursia, Mapletish Nickname: Eagles

Notes: Golden Eagles is one of the top clubs in the Atursia region of Mapletish, part of the Big Twenty Sports Clubs in Mapletish, it is the front runner for sports development for the Atursia region. A club synonymous with pride and seemingly not afraid of the views of others. Golden Eagles, however, pale in comparison to their more down to earth Atursia counterpart, Versatio Giants. The "in-your face" pride of the Eagles can be seen as an overshadow to the Giants. With growing financial power, the management seemed to be a little more impatient with wanting results, however the tendency was for the Eagles to go with producing consistent results. Often opting for a more free-spending rein with recruitment rather than prudent scouting and youth development. Attracting top names with top fees is well in the club's nature. The rich man's club but kind of obnoxious.
Fans: The Eagles have an impatient and passionate fan base. The supporters hail from the upper socio-economic classes of Atursia and that correlates with the prideful and obnoxious nature of the club. Gamedays can be a huge networking session for businesspersons as they gather to meet up and network over food with the match on going.
Preview: Winning the Liga last season helped the Eagles achieved some notable success following the large injection of money to the club and at Ismael Raimundo's purse for him to splurge on the transfer market. It also somewhat saved his job as the impatient supporters opted to want to have the manager fired from the job. This gave him another season to prove himself further. This season, Raimundo will have to mount a successful title challenge or at least stay in the middle of the table to ensure that his job is secured, or an IFCF competition finish will do the trick to appease the fans and the board.

Home United
Stadium: Rosfield [102,611] Manager: Jaime Severiano Location: Struggait, Mapletish Nickname: Protectors

Notes: Home United is the most successful and the biggest club in Mapletish. It is also a sporting giant within the professional sports scene in Mapletish. The Protectors, as they are called dominated the Primero Liga in the formation years of the league and only recently, had their presence been nerfed with multiple 1x league winners in the Primero Liga with increased competitiveness in the league and the consolidation of resources into the various sports organisations within the domestic football scene of Mapletish. Their successes amounted to their rich tradition and they are considered to be the most successful in terms of players, coaches and domestic football and sports development in Mapletish, a status that is unparalleled in the rest of the league. It has a club personality of grit and confidence, deriving from the notion of starting from the bottom and making it on top, as compared to their regional and arch rivals, Golden Phoenix, which is closely related and heavily supported by the aristocrat and royalty in Mapletish.
Fans: The biggest club in the country has the biggest fanbase in the country too, a perfect correlation. Drawing fans from all over Mapletish, they are also the side of a fierce divide in Struggait, where they hail from. The wildly aggressive and patient fanbase of the Protectors posed an oxymoron but their unmatched expectation of success yields to be one of the hardest hitting points of the most successful club in Mapletish. Drawing a rich fanbase of supporters from all over the socio-economic spectrum, it is an all encompassing and all inclusive club which makes the fanbase all the more wholesome.
Preview: The Protectors failed to win the title for the sixth season running as they missed out from the champions spot by just a point, letting their chances slipped away with half of their 30 matches ending with draws, despite only losing 1 match through all season, against SC Barcelona. They were however saved by their Mapletish Cup win. Securing an IFCF Challengers' Cup spot last season also helped Jaime Severiano stayed in his job but with the tendency to look at the long term development of the club in terms of both sports, business and management, the board and fans are not likely to be getting Severiano out of the job anytime soon unless he is unable to match expectations.

SC Milan
Stadium: San Siro (84,000) Manager: Ingzahi Shye Location: Schleswargen, Mapletish Nickname: Red Torch

Notes: The lesser neighbours in the Schleswargen region, largely thought of as less successful than their regional counterparts, Lazio, Milan hails from the culturally beautiful region of Schleswargen and from the most beautiful cities in Mapletish, one of huge cultural presence outside of Struggait. Milan's focus on defensive first approach and fine possession play joins the ranks of one of the defensively minded teams in the Primero Liga. Making a name of themselves as those who don't go by the mainstream route, their footballing philosophy has been as such since their establishment. Although not a big name in the sports scene in Mapletish, it has the tendency to be black horses and has consistently been so throughout their history. The club's management stems from prudence and careful management of their resources in order to retain competitiveness, often relying on youth development for talent. Defensive football is also entertaining, as football fans in Mapletish get a taste of Milanese football flavour. Milan also holds a club personality of grit and consistent hardwork and are never brought down by the lack of hard work alone.
Fans: The fanbase contains the working class of Schleswargen, namely the blue collar and their down to earth demeanour is captured in the club personality of grit and hardwork. The notion of not wanting to go by the mainstream route showed the desire of their supporters to jump out of their moulds, a monotonous cycle of work and living. The injection of football in the lives of these workers proved to be an ultimate escape from a day of laborious work . Affordable matchday tickets, in-stadium food, entertainment and the large stadium seating capacity also attracts the loyal fanbase which are more likely to stay on. The fanbase also plays an important role in the decision making of the club, as the club is supporter-owned.
Preview: They were never not thought to be able to survive in the rigours of the Primero Liga but shocked everyone and are able to rise above their expectations and doubters as they finished third in the Primero Liga in one of the few fairytale stories written in the ever competitive Primero Liga where resources often brings success. This also marked their first foray into the IFCF business as they enter into the Challengers Cup, making them one of the overachievers. Their challenge now is to find consistency in their stay in the top flight.

SC Barcelona
Stadium: Campus Nou (45,000) Manager: Rainerio Eustaquio Location: Atursia, Mapletish Nickname: The Barcugna

Notes: SC Barcelona is a supporter run sporting organisation but have their largest presence in the football department. It is a club which has spent their history dabbling with the bigger clubs. Although not the most outstanding of their pack, they are consistent and have lots of grit. They are also valued for their work ethic and this is derived from the hardworking community that the club is based in. The youth academy is also enshrined with these values and ensures that they are the custodians of the continuing club culture. Although this limits the club's opportunities to only locally made talent, their supporters have been all the more comfortable with that.
Fans: SC Barcelona has an extremely loyal and passionate fan base who have stuck with the club through ups and downs. Owning the club also meant that fan decisions are the decisions undertaken by the club. The club's values of hardwork and the sense of grit carries through from the working class background of the club. The supporters have also learnt to be very patient with the club's progress and are one of the few clubs to have Ultra fan group, the Barcugna Co.
Preview: SC Barcelona finished fourth in the previous season of the Primero Liga, exceeding all expectations following their rise from the 2nd division. Also embarking on their IFCF campaign, the club was not expecting too much of a miracle to happen but being consistent and keeping their composure, really helped them to achieve higher last season. Manager Eustaquio will be looking to bring the best out of his group of players as he looked to be a regular challenger to the title.

Golden Phoenix
Stadium: Phoenix Road [98,650] Manager: Nacho Benjamin Location: Struggait, Mapletish Nickname: Phoenix
Notes: Golden Phoenix is one of the biggest sporting organisations in Mapletish, often compared against their larger rivals Home United, the two sporting organisations are the front runners of sports development in Mapletish with noteworthy performances from the pair lighting up the football league or in any of the professional sporting leagues which have their presence. As opposed to Home United which appealed to the ground up and common supporters, Golden Phoenix are backed by the royals and the aristocrats, symoblising the old rich against the new rich, Home United.
Fans: AS their fanbase suggests, they have a rich fanbase but support for the club is a family tradition which meant that supporters could be supporting the club for many generations. Often backed by their rich and powerful supporters, the Golden Phoenix fanbase are also less prone to Ultras and hooliganism.
Preview: Golden Phoenix finished in a disappointing 5th place in the recently completed season, it was something that is on the mind of the fans and the Board during the post season as missing out on IFCF competitions is not something that is worthy of mention, considering they are title contenders most of the time. Manager Benjamin was lucky last season to have a loyal backing from the Board and the supporters, ensuring that business was still ran smoothly.

Celtics Rovers
Stadium: Celtics Stadium (56,000) Manager: Vladimir Grigor Location: Carzan, Mapletish Nickname: The Celtics
Notes: Celtics Rovers is counted as the home of the Mapli-ane aboriginals' home club. Popular with the Mapli-ane populations, the club settled in the Carzan region. Although situated away from the more densely populated city centers and regions of Mapletish, the Carzan region might seem to be a little more laid back with its lush forests and plantations supporting the agricultural production of Mapletish. Being home to the aborginal population, the club has also made efforts to re-settle the tribal populations in town centres and are a major influence in the small city centers that populate Carzan today.
Fans: The fan base is loyal and passionate with a strong native presence. This meant that tribal music, dances and cheers are the norm when one enters the Celtics Stadium. Passionately sticking with the club through thick and thin, the fans have survived the highs of a Primero Liga victory, and the lows of their relegation in the 2nd division. Nonetheless, the club is a symbol of the support base.
Preview: The previous season saw their return to the Primero Liga and they were able to finish in a respectable sixth place, having won the second division previously. Although they had been consistent all round, the Celtics were unable to make a huge impact to the title race. However, their relentless pursuit for consistency, kept the title race tight amongst members of the One-Timer club and for the heavy title favourites alike.

Versatio Giants
Stadium: Giants Ground (57,000) Manager: Bernardino Toni Location: Atursia, Mapletish Nickname: The Giants
Notes: The Giants by virtue of being founded earlier than the Celtics, although not quite overshadow their Atursian counterparts were a little more established than them in terms of tradition. The Giants pride themselves to be the middle class equivalent of the Golden Eagles side. Although not as obnoxiously rich and powerful as the Eagles, the Giants continue to be one that represent the blue-collar work ethic and desire in their club culture and way of life. Heavily supported by the manufacturing industry of the Maplish middle class workers, the Giants were the perfect opposite of the "businessman" gentlemen club of the Golden Eagles.
Fans: The Giants have a fanbase that is attracted by the blue collar work ethic field of play by the Giants side. With the main aim of matches to be a means of social gathering and catch up rather than for networking, the Giants' game features the feeling of homecoming and high school reunions. The Giants ground packed nicely with more capacity reserved for seats than VIP boxes, as opposed to the Eagles' stadium. The Giants Ultra are the die-hard supporters of the Giants and were known to steer away from hooliganism behaviour although red flames and fireworks are often a common feature by the Giants Ultras.
Preview: They were the champions of the top flight back in Season 16 and were pushed to 7th place in the following season with a competitive slew of teams that are fighting for the coveted IFCF spots and the title contention spots. The Giants were not that far off from contesting the top 4 but were edged out unfortunately. It could be anyone's game in Season 18, as they look to fight for the chance to go for the IFCF or maybe even the title to get themselves out of the One-timer club. They need more than just luck and consistency though, as the top half of the Primero Liga aka the Top 8 are all known to be teams with high levels of consistency.

Club Atletico
Stadium: Atletico Dome [60,000] Manager: Leon Noberto Location: Platsmire, Mapletish Nickname: The Atletico
Notes: Club Atletico is a black horse and a renowned sleeping heavyweight as with the the members of the one-timer club. They are in constant rivalry with their regional counter parts SC Galatasaray and are often tipped to be ahead of Galatasaray with a better look on free flowing, total football philosophy and possession based that was steep in its tradition. Apart from Home United, the Aletico is another club who is capable of playing football like that, although it has been years since Home United played in such a manner, the Aletico had looked to perfect it to suit their taste and needs. Often liken to recruiting, developing and fielding promising young talents, Club Ateltico has been the primary location to source for affordable talents from.
Fans: The Atletico has a fan base that spread over Mapletish, their local supporters looked to be targeted to the middle class region and are a club which is very much focused on family friendliness. Matches at the Atletico Dome are often cosy as it is a great hangout spot for family gatherings in the midst of a passionate football game. The supporters are also not looking for instanteous success and are satisfied with long term progression and development of the club.
Preview: Atletico looked to be cutting themselves short by finishing on the ending of the top 8, although not performing as well as they could have, they were lucky to have not been thrown so closely to relegation than their counterparts in positions lower than theirs, Galatasaray and Balmope Betis who each finished disapprovingly outside of the top 8. Atletico will have to push themselves harder in order to be ahead and also to challenge for the IFCF spots that they so yearned for, and possibly to challenge for the title too.

Catanzaro
Stadium: Carzan Stadium (45,000) Manager: Eladio Luis Location: Carzan, Mapletish Nickname: Carzans
Notes: Catanzaro used to be part of the sporting organisations in Mapletish but were unable to sustain their large operations in recent years which got them to downscale in the previous few seasons. Although fortunes have turned in previous seasons too with an injection of cash to the coffers, these club which saw themselves starting from the bottom sees themselves as well deserved in the top flight. Staying in the top flight has always been their goal and that continues to be their goal for most seasons as they look to make use of the resources given to them to improve their outreach. The club plays a blend of defensive yet quick counter attacking footballs making them some of the faster teams in the defence to attack transition plays, where they typically excel at.
Fans: Supporters of the Carzans have longed to be patient and have remained faithful to the club's cause. Having supported the club since their days at the bottom of the football league structure, one cannot doubt the tenacity and faithfulness of a Carzan supporter. The Carzan supporters also pride themselves as the original Carzan club in the Carzan region.
Preview: Having improved their position in the Primero Liga last season, the club looks to continue their fight to stay in the top flight, coupled with large cash injections and prudent management of resources by the management, Catanzaro looked straight to be one of the clubs to be able to challenge for at least the top 8 spot in the Primero Liga next season, although gunning for the IFCF competitions might seem a little far from reach, but anything is probable in this league.

Balmope Betis
Stadium: Cedoune Stadium (45,000) Manager: Eusebio Mario Location: Carzan, Mapletish Nickname: Betis
Notes: Rivalling their fellow Carzan counterpart Celtics Rovers, the two traced their history over fierce competition over the years. Betis are a club with a focus on long term development and the focus on prudent financial management bore fruit for them. Making use of their tier of defensive possession play together with dangerous long balls, Betis pride themselves with excellent defending spectacles and transition plays. Although not the best in terms of defence when compared to traditional powerhouses, Betis' emphasis on defence saw through with heavier defensive spending and more conservative build up plays. Their efforts however were not spared when they brought home their maiden title in Season 14. Although they were unable to replicate the form from seasons ago, the tradition lived on.
Fans: The Betis fans are known to be the quieter ones in the stands. Often known for their playing of musical instruments and drums rather than singing and chants. Their artistic approach to supporting is one of the standouts of the different supporter bases in the Primero Liga. Appealing to the music instrumentation circle, one is very likely to hear musical pieces no matter tribal or pop whenever one visits the Cedoune Stadium. The artistic nature of the club draws artists and cultured supporters.
Preview: Finishing 10th in the previous season meant that Betis had underperformed in terms of their football. Although an undesirable outcome for the Betis fans when they feel that they should be challenging for the IFCF competitions or even to take a hand at winning the title again, the Betis side looked to be a little less aggressive and hungry in recent seasons following their maiden title. The fans and board though kept their confidence in the manager though, proving his worth, despite not producing results in term of football.

SC Galatasaray
Stadium: Galastaray Road (57,000) Manager: Kemal Hasip Location: Platsmire, Mapletish Nickname: Gala
Notes: SC Galastaray pride themselves to be one which is not as fluid in terms of their possession based or counter attacking plays, but they are known for their wing plays. Great wing plays and outward fluidity on the flanks proved to be their strength in the attacks and their defensive strength on the wings is also second to none. Although tipped to be one behind Club Atletico, Galastaray on the other hand have a knack for purchasing underperforming players and to develop and gel the team together in hopes of producing one of the dangerous teams to challenge the status of being the black horse.
Fans: The Galastaray fanbase is one of passion and is one of the supporters base which is sympathetic to the socialist political spectrum. Despite the leftist tendencies, football in Mapletish and also in Platsmire is less likely to be political rather than competitive. No other club are rivals with Gala on accounts of political differences. The supporters tend to be well mannered and are more likely to share a drink with you than to get into a fight with you.
Preview: Massive underperformance from Gala the last season, with a drastic drop to 11th place from 4th previously, a large 7 positions difference and landing themselves outside of the top half of the Primero Liga, giving them adequate pressure to work for better pastures. Although faced with a fan base which is not the most friendly and the most patient, Gala will seek to challenge for consistent form in the upcoming season to right their mistakes.

Lazio
Stadium: Estadio Lazio (51,000) Manager: Felipe Luio Location: Schleswargen, Mapletish Nickname: Biacnolesti

Notes: Apart from the defensively minded SC MIlan in the Schleswargen region, Lazio shines a little brighter than their regional counterpart. Having had their focus on football rather sole-mindedly, Lazio is one of the full fledged football clubs in a league that is increasingly dominated by sporting organisation presence in recent years. Hailing from the beautiful region from Schleswargen, Lazio seeks to be a midfield engine, one that is eager to make up for the lack of defensive-emphasis philosophy.
Fans: The Biacnolesti supporters is highly similar to their foes, SC Milan. A blue collar community that does not want to be part of the SC MIlan crowd, a group of fans who do not want to be so similar to their foes. A knack for working hard and playing harder, Lazio fans are more likely to be at the stadium to enjoy and appreciate the game, just like how appreciating arts and culture is for those interested in them. This forms the difference between both sets of fans, when looked at from the inside between supporters of SC Milan and Lazio.
Preview: Surviving the relegation fight from last season, Lazio exceeded expectations by following just above the drop zone, something that they were not expected to be at throughout the season. However, being able to survive the rigours of the top flight had allowed them opportunities and more resources to build up on themselves. Although it might be early days to hold discussions of how to break into the top half of the table, Lazio are comfortable to be in the bottom half of the league and just above the drop zone, expect them to be able to do so again in the upcoming season.

Bury Town
Stadium: Tayafra Stadium (46,250) Manager: Marino Chuy Location: East Eorocks, Mapletish Nickname: Das Blues

Notes: A sports organisation that is not the most associated with football, but have managed a presence in the Primero Liga, by virtue of their participation in the Primero Liga. Bury Town originated from the coastal region of East Eorocks. The seaward club is one which is more synonymous with water sports and the sea rather than their ability in the land sports. Though, finding themselves in the bed rock of land sports in the form of football, Das Blues have learnt to adapt. Their bland of football featured fluidity both in attack and defence. With an emphasis on smoothness of play rather than specific attacking and defensive strategies. Although not the best in either, the fluidity of play allowed them to play some of the simplest of football in the league.
Fans: Bury Town fans watch their football even though they are more used to watching other sports. Bury Town have a patient fanbase who are not likely to act up as compared to other fanbases. It could be due to their lack of concern over football but it could also stem from their desire to want to participate in a different sport other than football altogether. Seeing quality performance strung together, the fans are all the more than willing to support the club.
Preview: Das Blues were not expected to survive the drop last season and willingly so, they were able to survive just one spot above the drop zone. Managing a closed one like this is not as convincing as with anyone would want to believe but it is a confidence booster, although it is not there of as yet. The following season will continue to be tough, as Das Blues fight to stay in the top flight for another season.

SC Porto
Stadium: Estadio Daguero (53,250) Manager: Simpson Corto Location: East Eorocks, Mapletish Nickname: Dragons

Notes: SC Porto originated from the coastal region of East Eorock and although they are not the best when it comes to water sports, they do have a presence in the land sports arena. SC Porto's football department have come a long way, struggling from the lack of resources previously and now are able to put together a team that is capable to get to the top flight. A blend of simple passing and attacking football with an emphasis on the centre route and also focus on developing young talent with a good blend of physical abilities, Porto looked to be one of the budding locations for young footballers. With that focus in mind, they looked towards long term development to seek security for their footballing department.
Fans: Porto fans might seem impatient at first, but they are those who stick by their club no matter what happens. That is one of the main oxymoron of Porto fans. Porto fans are known to be rowdy and can get passionately aggressive, however it is not the blight of hooliganism that shakes the safety of matches. It is though, not in their blood to engage in such behaviour and they normally prefer to stick around in groups and engage in cheering, singing and beating of percussion to rifle up the stadium atmosphere.
Preview: SC Porto won the second division last season and will make their way to the top flight. The top flight seemed to be a difficult place to survive in but Porto is up to the challenge and are ready to begin their battle for survival against relegation. Only time through the season will tell whether Porto is good enough to stay in the top flight and battle the more established clubs or will they succumb to the rigours of the top flight and be relegated back to the second.

Pittsburgh
Stadium: Pittsburgh Stadium (53,250) Manager: Patrickson Perpe Location: Atursia, Mapletish Nickname: The Gladiators

Notes: The Gladiators have never failed to be one of the shining stars in Atursia. Although seemingly having the bigger presence in the Atursia region with their presence in other sports, Pittsburgh might not have their best foot in the footballing department but they are a force in other sports. Pittsburgh play a blend of well balanced attacking football, with an emphasis on long balls. Defensively, they utilised the quick press and are well suited to engulf their opponents with overwhelming pressure. With the culture of buying raw talent and with a focus on player development, a mark brought over from their presence in other sports, the Gladiators are that different from their regional rivals SC Barcelona who have a focus on local and youth development.
Fans: The fans of Pittsburgh are one of those who are mild and less aggressive but that does not kill off the passion of their support. Although not as rowdy as the other supporters, their supporters are too unique in their personality profile. A quietly supportive role. Similarly to their regional rivals Barcelona, Pittsburgh too is a fan-owned organisation and are patient too in their approach.
Preview: Pittsburgh entered the Primero Liga with a second place finish in the second divison. Losing out only to Porto on head to head wins previously, Pittsburgh are a dangerous opponent to be playing against. Now that they are in the Primero Liga, their main target would be to fight to stay out of the reelgation zone, and as with taking one step at a time, this is definetely what the Gladiators plan to do, no lofty expectations just stability.

Montpellier
Stadium: Stade de Massion (52,125) Manager: Ervin Anderson Location: Carzan, Mapletish Nickname: Blue Socks

Notes: The Blue Socks are one of the few football clubs to be in the professional football league structure. Considered to be one of the smaller clubs in Carzan based on stature alone, Montpellier play a blend of aggressive, physical football, with an emphasis on well balanced flank play, whether is it through the defence or for any quick counter attacking, the flanks remain one of the key areas in Montpellier footballing philosophy. Prudent financial and resource management is also what the club is known for and this could put a limit to any manager who wants to take on the hot seat.
Fans: Montpellier has a passionate fanbase and Montpellier's Ultras are one of the more rowdy fan bases as compared to the other supporter bases in the Primero Liga. Officially apolitical but they do have a right wing sentiment, however despite that they are disciplined enough to respect the safe space of the stadium, before plaguing it with hooliganism.
Preview: The Blue Socks got promoted to the Primero Liga from their performances from the second division last season. Surviving in the Primero Liga is a difficult task inevitably for the Blue Socks in the upcoming season. However, with enough traction in the league, the Blue Socks should be able to keep up with the rigours of the league. Surviving the relegation battle would be one of the main goals of Montpellier this season.

The FA Community Shield
Golden Eagles 1-0 Home United

The clash between the winners of the Primero Liga of Season 17 and the Mapletish Cup winners kicked off in the harsh Maplish winter at the Mapletish National Stadium. This time round, it was contested by Golden Eagles, the winners of the Primero Liga and Home United, the winners of the Mapletish Cup. The two competitive rivals were closely matched in the Primero Liga last season. Golden Eagles won the Primero Liga by a narrow margin of only 1 point as they finished with 58 points as compared to Home United's 57, edging the latter out and sealing their maiden title. The Mapletish Cup winners, Home United beat rivals Golden Phoenix 3-1 in the finals, while Golden Eagles were on their way out in the Round of 32 previously, losing to Celtics Rovers 3-1. The curtain riser was a valid welcome for everyone. Golden Eagles were able to get ahead after an evenly matched game, sealing the winner and decider in the 77th minute, winning them their first Community Shield while denying Home United of their 13th pre-season trophy.
