You can totally make three posts. Or you could edit them into the post you'd already done for that matchday (possibly also telling the hosts about this if it's near cut-off time). It's all good

If you can do it without feeling like you're burning yourself out, go for it. So long as you're enjoying what you're writing, that's the important thing.

If you want to continue to post them here that's fine, but if you make them IC and post them in the BoF thread you could also be getting rp bonus for them. :)

I just don't think I should clog the RP thread any more than I have. I seem to post there a lot...

Another brief Baptism of Fire announcement: so that no one is surprised tomorrow, although we have switched to the seeding system, we will be swapping seeds to avoid groupmates playing each other in the round of 16 (this is not guaranteed from the quarterfinals on).

So a mini-announcement so everyone is aware.

The other day it was brought up to me that Bunkaiia should not have been allowed into the Baptism of Fire. Bunkaiia has never participated in the tournament, but carries a rank from their participation in World Cup 85. With the tournament well underway, withdrawal or anything is obviously fairly unfeasible.

I checked his name against the Baptism of Fire list, but I clearly forgot to check their name against the World Cup ranks, which is how I missed this. So apologies for that.

Which gives us a problem. As suggested by our rank keeper(Valanora), and after communicating directly with Bunkaiia, we will just leave the BoF untouched, and let him take his rank points from the Baptism of Fire. We will then wipe his remaining points earned from World Cup 85 cycle from the WC ranks. BoF hosts can confirm themselves, but it is fairly safe to presume that he was not granted his ranking points for this tournament, so I'm not terribly concerned about any sort of advantage there either.

Unless there are strenuous objections from the community, the above is the solution we will roll with.
The poster of this message is probably Ko-oren or Banija as NSWC Signups is owned and operated by the World Cup Committee, bringing you the finest quality in sign-up threads for NationStates' premier football tournament since 2005.

I think you have already arrived on the logical solution to resolve the err so thumbs up all around.

Now, I don't like the fact that you are pointing the finger at your self as failing to spot it because the onus should be on the signer-upper to ensure they aren't breaking the rules as well. Bunkaiia was clearly in conflict with the posted rules at the top of the Signups thread: (Though maybe you could argue they didnt feel the need to read them as they are not New To the World Cup and took the section literally)

HOW TO SIGN UP:
New to the World Cup? Read This:
Welcome to the longest-running sports competition in NationStates!

If you're completely new here, you are eligible and highly recommended to enter the Baptism of Fire (BoF), a tournament that happens before the World Cup, as well as enter the World Cup itself. If this is your first entry into the World Cup, please indicate whether you wish to be registered for the Baptism of Fire or not.

You can register for the Baptism of Fire simply by saying, in this thread, that you want to be in it. e.g. 'I want to be in the BoF and the WC'. You can make it more polite or impressive than that, of course, or even RP the sign-up, but simply indicating you want to enter is enough.

It is highly advised that you enter the BoF before your first World Cup. This will give you an opportunity to RP in an official event with other newcomers and also gives you your first ranking points. Please also note you CANNOT enter the BoF without also entering the World Cup. Qualifying for World Cup will follow immediately from the BoF, so this thread serves as sign-ups for both tournaments at once.

If this is your first Cup, you may only sign up with one nation. A second nation, known as a 'puppet', may be signed up in later tournaments. Puppets need to declare their status as a puppet, as well as be confirmed as such by the 'master' nation.

First time participants are ineligible to host or co-host the World Cup and Baptism of Fire tournaments.

What's missing from this section? Any notion that a nation who has never participated in the BoF before AND who has no KPB rank is also eligible to sign up for the BoF even if they have participated in the WC before. This would not have saved Bankaiia this time around but if they had waited one cycle it would have been perfectly fine. Perhaps a slight update to the text to cover this scenario for clarity

HOW TO SIGN UP:
New to the World Cup? Returning after a long absence? Read This:

Hey all,
I've made a prediction bracket for the Baptism of Fire if anyone's interested. It will close at Recuecn's cutoff tomorrow, so you have a little over 14 hours to get your predictions in. Link is here.
Good luck!

EDIT: It seems I'd had a brain flunk and forgotten that there was an off day. Predictions to close in a little over 38 hours after this post was originally made.

VilTur's changes to the OP are fine, but I question the value of amending the OP -- If you are returning to the World Cup, it's not very likely that you're going to be reading through the OP in full, you already know how it works. Especially if said information about re-entering the BoF is put at the very bottom. It's more a question of process. It just needs to be standard that when signing up nations to the BoF, the President needs to verify two things: the nation has not entered the BoF in the past and that the nation does not have a current ranking.

In saying that though, I have my own proposal -- sign up debutant nations into the BoF automatically unless they opt out. Rename the sign-up thread to "World Cup XX/Baptism of Fire YY Signups thread". It's very common for new nations to not read the OP and even know that they are eligible to sign up for the Baptism of Fire. That is evidenced by the fact that Recuecn and myself reminded new nations who had signed up to the World Cup that they also had the opportunity to sign up for the Baptism of Fire. Let's try and make the onboarding process for newbies as easy as possible.

I'd say there's no need to dilute the title of the thread by adding the BoF part, but making the BoF opt-out for new nations would be a good step forward imho. As long as the BoF hosts, when elected, first contact everyone signed up for it at that point to remind them, I think that would make sense.

It's not a bad idea in principal but in practice it could open a real can of worms. Right now if a new nation doesn't sign up for the big there are no issues. It's in big red letters in the thread which they are supposed to have red. Making it automatic entry makes the sign up thread much more complicated for whoever is maintaining it as you have to manually check every nation who signs up against the master bof list instead of simply gliding through it and looking for nations that say in their response they are signing up to the bof. Additionally, in an automatic entry scenario the responsibility shifts to the president / bof hosts / sign up keeper - whichever party becomes designated by what I assume will be a constitutional endment to support this proposal. Now, if a nation is left out of the bof it will spark discussions on whether they should receive free kpb points or other compensation to equalize their chances in the world cup due to the error made by the WCC instead of it just being "don't worry about YOUR mistake, it won't make a big difference everything will be ok" as we have now.

Just saying, it will be a non trivial commitment of time and responsibility each cycle to flip that.

Also, we will be adding another off-day between the semifinals and the 3rd place playoff/final, so that no one is caught unawares by an earlier cutoff time when having to switch hosts.

Well, the tl;dr of this is, I’m retiring from NS.

With the college research/application process starting to pick up here in a few months, I likely won’t have much will or time to do NS. I created Sahuarita because I lost interest in RPing with Northwest Kalactin, and I was trying to see if I had any spark left in me to RP, and I really didn’t. This community has been a very large part of my online activity throughout the past 14 months or so, and I was very happy to be a part of it for the time.

Hosting tournaments and RPing has been very fun to do over the past year, and hopefully I’ll be back. I won’t be around for the next 18 months at least, but hopefully, I’ll come back after that.

As far as WGP2 and WC will go, I will make sure to finish off my RPing there with Sahuarita, with at least weekly RPing for Pedro Carballal, and at the very least a roster in WC.

It’s been fun, and I thank all of you that made it that way.

From the top, I wish you nothing but the best of luck in wherever your life takes you. I don't think it's a controversial thing to say that you have shown your immense potential and have matured and grown in confidence while a part of NS, I echo Sarz's comment about your work on the lacrosse scorinator.

And now you have a chance to retire on top--a BOF win in what has looked like a strong field.
