Am I allowed to abbreviate my name to simply 'Toronto'? If I am allowed, please refer to me as Toronto.

EDIT: Just call me by my username.

2nd place finish in BoF 66. There's more to come! Hopefully..

Likewise, is it possible to change my name to 'Kernovi and Rewgwlas.'

I'm going to make an official account replacement to an account with that name when I find the time to move across all my factbooks and certainly before the World Cup starts if it's possible to move my account instead of starting from the BoF again.

Hi there, so apparently I had signed up for Baptism of Fire 66 and promptly forgot all about it (cos homework) and didn't remember it until today. Will you please remove my name from the current list of BoF participants? (Just for the BoF, of course.) Thanks. :)

For the record, I do not have time to be WCC President and would decline any such nominations. So don’t nominate me. It always frustrates me when I nominate someone who didn’t want the job and then they decline without letting anyone know in advance, so I wouldn’t want to put anyone else in that position, which is why I’m stating this publicly
In advance.

Congratulations to Farfadillis and Semarland for winning the BoF hosting rights. It was an excellent bid and a worthy winner, so good luck for the tournament ahead.

As for myself and South Toronto, we gave it all we had and perhaps another cycle we would have got it. I’m considering us going for a CoH bid this cycle, but it’s early days at the moment. Massive thanks to the user that voted for us.

Thank you to whomever nominated the Holy Empire for WCC President.

However, note that by long-standing precedent, I consider myself ineligible to stand for an elected leadership position in NS Sports - with either of my accounts - due to my status as a site moderator; it would create too many potential conflicts of interest.

The person who nominated my other account was clearly unaware of this; I hope I won't seem in any way ungrateful if I take a moment to reiterate the point.

Would like to thank everyone that voted for Farf and myself, I'm truly honoured to be able to host such a special BoF. Commiserations to the other bidders - they were all fantastic bids and we were very lucky to be able to get enough votes.

As Farf has said in the signups thread, we're going to set a soft cap at 64, to make things easier. Any signups thereafter will be taken into account after we've double checked the list for the inevitable CTEs and late withdrawals etc.

Dormill and Stiura: I hope this isn't a bad request to make, but can you please include some of the information from your picture in the Baptism of Fire thread in text form? I use my phone to browse the forums a lot and it cannot display external images when I'm on NS, and I know we also have people who use screen readers due to visual impairment who that would be very difficult for. Thanks :)

I'd also recommend Dormill ease up on the permissions, specifically Choose Goalscorers. It's going to be very difficult to RP matches against you in which you score without mentioning the goals, and with so little time between matches, it isn't practical to TG you and wait for reply

This goes as a general notice / recommendation to new users. With regards to the Choose Goalscorers permission, anything besides a blanket Y is going to be very limiting to other nations, even if that's not the intent. It's easy not to mention injuries or cards; not so much goals.

Just noticed in the Post-80 tab of the WC Rankings sheet that the points for the CoH 71 are currently messed up. I currently have no points in the sheet despite participating in that tournament and scoring 4 points in the group stages. Also, the number of matches for the teams participating would be 7 or 8 depending on what group they had been in. Currently all values in the spreadsheet for that is 8, which is reflected correctly in the Pre-WC80 Finals tab.

Could the user who have write access to the sheet look into it? Thanks in advance!

Honestly, that shouldn't even be an option anymore. I think it should be removed from the standard permissions box.

Agreed. I think most others do too. I don't know why it's even an option when nobody wants it there, other than inertia.

I disagree.

I give blanket permission to RP just about anything with the Holy Empire, so there's no issue here for me personally, but there are legitimate RP reasons why the no option on 'Choose Goalscorers' might be picked.

I agree that it shouldn't be used widely, and nations should always think carefully about why they might choose that option; it shouldn't be used as a default option. But it is a legitimate choice.

And there are plenty of creative ways around the issue if someone's picked 'no'; I've never found it limiting.

Possibly if you are keen for goals to be apportioned to specific players because of your RP arc with them, something along those lines.

But you can just politely ask for that player to be assigned most goals, so I don't see the problem there. I suppose a "No" with an added "X scores all my goals" is justified, but that's not prohibitive to other users at all.

On the range of choosing to not-choosing goalscorers, I'm at the end where I'd actually rather people chose mine first - I'm interested to know what outsiders think of my team, their write-ups, who sounds like good match-ups against their defenders, etc. But not everyone wants, or trusts, other uses to choose their scorers and tell a story that's worthwhile - after 14 years I'm largely out of standard football pitch stories, so am quite happy for others to come up with them.

For, evidently, a number of players, not being able to RP the goals scored against them is somehow worse than playing against a team with no roster or posting history to draw from - if you can't choose the name of who scored, then why would that enable to you choose the time or the manner in which the goal was scored? And once you're at that point, a 'standard' match report RP becomes impossible to sound two-sided ("We scored some goals, things happened, we lost anyway") or remotely realistic (as that's what most RPers aim for). When you're trying to RP your nation in a vaguely realistic way, not talking about the opposition goals - especially ones that ensure your team loses - is very immersion-breaking even for the most one-eyed of sports reporters.

I consider not allowing your opponent to choose your goalscorers to be essentially playing NS Sports as a single player game, rather than the forum-based PvP-focused MMO that it essentially is. That's not to say it's a bad thing that you shouldn't be doing, but it can stop others from playing what they consider to be their games, forcing them to RP a different way.

Very much so this. I actually get mad when others RP first and don't mention my goalscorers by name, especially since my RP Permissions don't prohibit them from doing so.
