Might be more appropriate to wait until tomorrow just in case someone would be spoiled by seeing the new flag if they have it recorded. Though if you have it recorded, you basically shouldn't be on the internet at this point if you didn't want to be spoiled

To be fair, if you're spoiled at this point by the NSWC Signups flag, you've got to take a serious look at your life. This is not the season finale of Game of Thrones, for crying out loud, it's the World Cup Final.

I guess its not really possible to be spoiled by this flag anyway. Same colors regardless of the winner :D

Depends a lot on random numbers, but if you RP hard and well, you'll be in contention for qualification to the finals after a couple of WCs. Average time to first qualification is somewhere around the 3-5 WCs mark.

Ah ok, that doesn't sound too bad, just so long as it isn't like rping as San Marino I'll be happy enough  .

Teams are never quite San Marino... A World Cup qualification group usually has 2-3 really good teams, 2-3 mediocre ones hoping to get a few upsets and a surprise qualification, and then a lot of nations that could get anything between 40% wins or 0% wins. Those that RP even a bit usually go in the direction of the 40% wins, even on the first cycle. For the first few cycles, try to shoot for the Cup of Harmony, an invitational tournament for teams that failed to qualify for the World Cup, but interacted well or had remarkable RPs.

I'm probably a decent example for a nation that RPs a lot but doesn't get the results: I've been in 23 qualification cycles, with just 9 World Cup appearances. 0 of those 9 appearances gave me a quarterfinal. Meanwhile, because I'm pretty active, I've also qualified for 9 Cups of Harmony, and even managed to win one. So out of 23 cycles, I've had something to do after qualification in 18 of those cycles, even if it's not the World Cup itself. I really enjoy the Cup of Harmony!

Ironically, if you did RP your side as being San Marino-esque bad and do so consistently you'd find it harder and harder to explain how you're getting the victories a consistent level of RPing will bring.

I have a shot-in-the-dark question.

I've been working on reconstructing Squornshelan footballing history using the old NSwiki archives and the archived threads from old editions, however, the thread from World Cup 5 seems to be lost. I know the finals results and qualifying group final tables, but I was wondering:

Does anyone have any records of individual matches in World Cup 5 qualifying? I know 2 of my 7 results, but the other 5 are a mystery.

I wouldn't say that I am an example to follow, but I can speak to what it takes to get in the general vicinity of the qualifying hopefuls, and I don't want to re-hash a lot of what Free Republics said.
I was the losing side in the last BoF Final and I qualified for the WC via the playoff on my first attempt. And that took a lot of serious RP, plus some fortunate luck that I don't generally seem to find. And my experience was a complete outlier.
I was better at doing the writing b/c I had done enough RP in a few other things previous that I wasn't going into the BoF cold.

But it's still just dumb luck in the end.

RP in sports doesn't need to be limited to match reports through newspapers, television, etc. It can be character based, whether the players, fans, officials or whoever, be about events before, during or after the match, or even events only vaguely related to what's going in at all. Player diaries, fan phone-ins, Twitter storms... anything and everything is appropriate in NS Sports roleplay, really.

What do goals, buses and BoF bids all have in common?

A third, probably rather familiar BoF bid is now posted.

As an aside, the first potential co-host I had arranged to bid with hasn't been in contact with me for 5 days, which has rather lost my confidence in them to present a bid with. A sincere thank you to the several people in the meantime who had offered to help me host this BoF, but with the fresh deadline looming I was expecting to present this as a solo bid, until EQS suggested we run together again.

I think this BoF cycle is suffering from a lot of potential back-up type experienced hosts who were all hoping for some bids to come along they'd be actively pleased to vote for, I know I certainly was, but as they say 'if you want a job done right...'. No disrespect intended to any other potential set of hosts, of course, we just want to try and make sure this extremely important BoF is done the best way it can possibly be.

It's also worth noting that first-time WCC bidders might have a better chance at getting voted in for Cup of Harmony hosting rights. The BoF is generally held to a higher standard because we want to make sure the first experience new users have participating is a quality one; first impressions and all that.

<Yuezhou> I am willfully ignoring the existence of boats
