If a player did live healthily, not fall into relative unhealthiness, then I would say he would be a bit like Stan Matthews, who played till the age of around 50.
But then again, that would be on club level. A player who did play until 50 would have long retired from international football, and served out his remaining career in a lower-league or even non-league team.

For anyone to continue playing at such a high standard of football until the age of 54, then there are three possibilities. Not supporting nor condoning this, because this is the multiverse, and anything can happen within the multiverse.

1. He's just that good.
2. It's a deliberate godmod.
3. He's a Time Lord in his second incarnation.

Just my two cents.

Or there's option 4 - he remains on the team until such an old age because of nepotism. During the Duvalier era, many of Haiti's athletes across all sports were retired military heroes and other important people who didn't get there on sporting merit but because of other real or perceived national accomplishments. It's possible some of them were in their 50s. Of course, Haiti's teams were among the worst in the world at that time, but still, it's possible.

A moderately silly question, but just as a confirmation...

"during the first leg of qualifying (MDs 1-9), Groups 1-10 will be scorinated by the Equestrian States between 10:00 PM-Midnight EST (03:00-05:00 UTC)"

I think that means that the first matchday on the 20th will be late at night the 20th of November American time and in the early morning the 21th for the Europeans - am I correct?

Yeah, that would be right. More specifically, early morning for Brits, the Irish, and the western most parts of Europe.

Ah, reminds me of olden days....really really olden days, when no one defended well maybe a few did - kick and run like tiny tykes before the offside rule was introduced. Seems since 1860 the pyramid has slowly moved backwards from the 1-2-7 to more of a mixed 4-2-4 which Brazil used to win the WC in 1958 and all kinds of variations along the way (I like the W-M, which is 3-2-2-3). So innovative per manager Freezus, perhaps in NS but I've not been around long enough nor remember all the tactics of other users. Cleaning up the question here, the MD one cut-off will be Thursday 20th of November from 10:00 PM-Midnight in Eastern Time of USA, 03:00-05:00 AM UTC (Early morning) of Friday in Europe, and for those living in Asia, will be between Noon (Philipine Time) or the first hours of the afternoon in Australia.

a seemingly easy solution is to use this - worldtimebuddy - Set your home time zone to get started and then enter hosts time zone (this case EST as indicated), finally click on the time indicate by the host on their time zone scale and look above or below (depending on how you entered them) to see the difference and at what time the cut-off will be in your time zone.

So if you click the date for Nov. 20th on the top and select the host cut-off below you should get (using EST and GMT) we get 10pm EST Nov. 20 and 3am GMT Nov. 21. (you can switch to 24 hour clock too if you like that, upper right of screen)

Actually, offense-heavy formations are practically mandatory under Republican domestic rules. Republican rules means no offsides rule and an automatic penalty kick if there are more defenders than attackers in the scoring area while the ball is in the possession of an attacking player in said area.

That's why Rule Theriault is actually considered a defensive-minded coach by his nation's standards.

By the way, the Saintland National Team has played a 3-2-2-3 for the last few cycles. Nephara did an excellent job of describing the weaknesses of that in his most recent RP.

Then why wouldn't you adopt a really defensive formation and put only one attacker in the penalty area, meaning he's guaranteed a one-on-one with the goalkeeper once he's in the box or else gets a penalty kick? And since there's no offisdes, you can put him there for as long as you want and just clear the ball up to him.

Not if you put them just outside the box.

Either way it still makes more sense to pile bodies forward. There are no offsides, so I can still just load a bunch of bodies in the opposition box, launch balls in and have multiple chances to score. Especially if one of those guys just stands on the keeper to limit his mobility. Same logic behind the original, early formations in football (which were also ultra attacking).

If there is just one attacker in the box, why not just have the keeper man-mark him and catch/punch the ball away when it comes near, since practically every pass will be aerial? He'll always have a reach advantage.

EDIT: The fundamental difference between Republican rules and modern association football rules dictates the popular formation choices. Think of it this way: Republican rules actively penalise defending; Modern association football rules discourage overly heavy attacking. This leads to approaches in the opposite direction in each game to avoid being penalised.

Republicans emphasise attacking because their games penalise defending, making it effectively a contest of who can score more... while modern association football rules put more emphasis on preventing the opposition scoring (hence the popularity of either deep defending with counters, or a possession game) because there is no punishment for defending heavily, but the offside rule works against a team attacking en masse.

With the World Cup starting tomorrow, I'd just like to say a couple of things.

When you are RPing, always check your opponent's roster? Why? For a number of reasons, including; Most will have a little bit of info (or more) about the team. This can really assist you in your RP, and will enable you to RP more in detail.

And most importantly: The RP Permissions.. You should, in fact, must respect their RP permissions. Failing to do so will give you a bad reputation, and possibly (some hosts do this), get your RP bonus reset to 0.

Also, good luck to everyone.

Some good points there.

My apologies to my group mates as I'm still waiting on a laptop repair. I hope to get some RP in before group stage is over.

I've managed to complete the roster post that I started a couple of days ago.

Our population is approximately 20 million. We do have a national government, although its role is strictly limited. Economy = thriving. Those aren't "biker gangs", they're our traditional cross-Clan 'Warrior Societies'... and are generally respected, not feared.
