In the Signup Thread (all you have to do is post in there saying that you sign up). Currently, signing up gets you on a waitlist but it is still possible to get in since there are always nations that CTE before the World Cup starts.

BoF signups are closed as that tournament is currently in progress but its generally better to go straight into qualifying rather than wait several months for the next BoF (especially since you'd still be able to enter the next BoF with a puppet).

So I've been trying contemplating a an idea for a Toruniment

I want to run a tournament for teams who aren't "Eligible for the Latest World Cup".

The target is primarily puppet nations of people who have more than two countries. People Like Abhenfelft (however he spells that) , Hinode, Vilita, and me all have a large collection of Puppets. And I'd like allow people who weren't able to sign up for WC82 to be able to participate in a tourniment.

That being said here's what I'm hing up on.

I want to give bonuses to teams for several things besides RP. Population Bonuses and Bonuses for teams that have participated in other regional or International Tourniments. My man issue is how do I give enough bonus for those teams to get a good start but allow smaller teams who RP to catch up?

Any Suggestions?

Also the working title for this tournament is "The Kermet Kup"

Thankyou everyone for the messages of support and horror at my change of status on the forums. I'll still be around to participate in the stuff I enjoy the most, but there's one thing I won't be able to do as a forum mod, and that's administer the World Cup Committee

Just like Arch and Audio, I need to take myself out of the running for the big important things like the World Cup, so no more host bids, either. As I'm currently El Prez, and thankyou again to everyone who nominated or voted me into that position, I'll be resigning that position.

This will make Tororin Halatyrion the shortest-reigning President in WCC history, which is a delightful state for him to be in. Equestrian States will continue as President, and Vilita, as the third-place candidate, will move up to VP, so congratulations to them. I'll finish when the WC signups officially close, but the WC82 hosts seem to have everything in hand at this point.

There was an earlier tournament along those lines, called the 'Cuppet', which ran for several cups: If you search the forum for threads whose title includes that term 'Cuppet' then you'll be able to see how it went.

Anyways, if I fail in the BoF does that make an impact in the WC?

Only a very tiny one for your first 2 WCs. At most, you can get 3 ranking points from the BoF which is equivalent to getting a quarter of the possible points in qualifying. That's a few days worth of RP bonus at most, depending on the bonus scale used by the hosts. Next WC, your BoF ranking points are reduced by half. The WC after that, they disappear entirely and are gone forever.

The value of the BoF lies in developing RP ideas, developing rivalries and the prestige of winning it. It doesn't really help you or hinder you in the WC in the long-term. I've reached the semi-finals 3 times with this nation, which didn't make the knockout rounds in the BoF. My other nation, which reached the BoF semi-finals and was actually my primary nation for my first 10 cycles or so, never made it past the Round of 16 in the WC. There's no significant correlation between BoF performance and long-term WC performance. Where you'll find the significant correlation is between frequency and quality of RP over a long period of time and long-term WC performance (RPing, in and of itself, is no guarantee that you will qualify for the WC but without RPing you will probably never get into the top 50 or so of the rankings without alot of luck).

a good tip is to try and be consistent with writing, even a small RP of a couple paragraphs can get places over the long term.

I've been told by others about this, I do want to try and host an event for the future, so this is my idea for a start.

I have co-hosted WCs as a moderator (though with the Holy Empire rather than this account), so I think you're likely fine at (co-)hosting so long as you don't moderate the events you're co-hosting, and perhaps use a non-mod account. Now that there are three mods with a Sports background (and a fourth regularly participating in Sports) we have plenty of cover in the highly unlikely event of minor controversy.

When I was modded there were no other Sports mods, and I was really strict with myself, withdrawing myself from eligibility to elected positions, co-hosting events, and even voting on host votes for events I was participating in. In time, the community consensus was that hosting and voting was fine; it was only elected office that represented a difficult potential conflict of interest where we might abuse our power, declare a national emergency, and build a wall between Sports and the other forums to keep out the rapists and drug dealers in F7.

You will lose some of your rank points for every WC that you skip.

It's not stupid if you don't know! Most people who do NS Sports are generally familiar with the sports they're playing and know how the rules, international competitions, etc work, but that's not always the case (e.g. I've entered and enjoyed several ice hockey events without knowing a single thing about it).

World Cup Qualifiers are where the 150-ish nations are sorted into groups and play each other twice, home and away, to decide which 30 teams join the hosts in the World Cup itself, sometimes referred to as the 'Finals', which helpfully is not the same as 'the Final'.

The threads for rosters, RPsand scores will go up as per the WC hosts schedule, usually after the BoF has finished. You won't be able to miss them!

World Cup ranks take into account the last three cycles so your little BoF rank boost will be worth a significant percentage less if you skip this Cup for any reason, until it finally disappears to 0 in when the rankings for your 4th cup in a row are calculated.

In short, don't skip the Cup if you're in it and have had fun in the BoF.

It's not stupid if you don't know!
