Just a quick concern, if you can put it that way. Doesn't Northern Sunrise Islands not exist anymore? How is its rank moving to Kita-Hinode? Because I remember getting yelled at for less when I moved my team to a different nation that wasn't connected to the first one. I recall there was going to be a change in the rank transfer rules just because of that.

Kita-Hinode's signature says "the IC follow-up to Northern Sunrise Islands", so it probably is connected to the first one.

Yes, but I don't know if the IC justification is still strong enough compared to past nations since the original NSI disappeared if I remember the story correctly. Some influential people were upset when I moved my team over to an unrelated nation as refugees of war who got hired out as mercenary players. Unless this new nation is the Northern/Unified Sunrise Islands in another form, this is the same thing. It appears the Hinodejin Empire is a separate country with a separate governance than USI. After a search I didn't see anything saying that they're the same nation but in some different form, even if they are inheriting USI's squad(not sure about this part either).

I don't know if the rule was actually changed but I believe the thing that other players wanted was for a nation to have to be some kind of different version of the last one to get its rank. As in, Saintland splitting and West Saintland keeping the rank, or USAR unifying a few countries ICly and changing its name. The Unified Sunrise Islands were decidedly not an empire and I don't see where it changed into one.

Perhaps we have yet to see how the two are connected? When NSI left, he didn't know if he was coming back. Maybe allow him time to actually create that connection, which may come in future RP. Unless someone leaves with a full contingency plan of how they're going to come back, it's unreasonable to assume they'll have the full backstory posted online within a few days of a return.

It does make some sense to expect some sort of explanation, if not a full backstory, to justify a rank transfer; how one nation's skill at soccer would transfer to the other. It's possible we could just take it on good faith that it'll be explained in due time through RPs, but that's a very nebulous system (and susceptible to the biases of the so-called "influential people").

I've looked over NSI's posts in the recent DBC, and the link at the moment looks very tenuous and somewhat meta.

I feel there may be some sort of explanation, or at least broader outline, needed as to how the new nation relates to the old.

Personally, I'd rather people didn't insist on making euphemistic references as above like there is some sort of NS Sport Illuminati out to get them and specifically them. (I can confirm of course that, if such an organisation did exist, Eura would most definitely running the whole thing, along with Israel and the Royal Family.)

However I agree that at the moment the link between the two nations seems tenuous at best. I'm uncomfortable at the idea of a very high ranked player dropping back in to sweep up a very high rank (albeit with a cycle gap) without a stronger link. Like Krytenia, I'm of the view that some explanation/justification should be given. Of course USI may well already have been planning to do so and hasn't gotten around to it yet, but its right that people make the point.

The point of the post is less about there being a conspiracy and more about me preferring one user specifically to not 'get away with', if you can put it like that, doing the same thing that various people complained about when I did. Considering that the user in question has taken public shots at me and at different friends of mine at times. I'm already past what happened with me, as it was more than a year ago.

Most likely the deadline would be extended. It'd be kinda silly to not have one after 65 editions =P

Though now bidding does seem tempting...

Now, now. No need for any of you to descend into chaos, start a purge, throw tea over the boats or anything of the like.

Northern Sunrise Islands wrote:The year was 2021 and we successfully managed to travel from this realm to a place called New Eden, habited by creatures with more power than a human could ever have. Thanks to the combined power of all the Déesses, the Hibiki Zaibatsu was able to create a portal that would allow such a massive move and with their technology, they were able to restrain foreigners from following. At least, most of them.
As in?
There were a couple of notable exceptions. People that went through the portal out of their own volition or that we simply couldn't stop. The most notable one was a football player from Chromatika.
Why didn't you stop him?
He wished to travel with us. Wanted to find peace.

Sadly, our arrival was hardly expected and as such, we were forced to face the five trials. Each former nation had to send a champion. If failure was reached, the people from that nation would cease to exist from all realities. Of the near hundred that made the trip, a total of twenty-nine managed to complete the trials.
Sadly, we were not to stay in that realm, for Arceus chose to send us to a new plane of existence. He said that we should act as a tool to unify disagreeing tribes, sparing no efforts, were it via pen or via force.
When we finished that move, we found ourselves at what would be, if our historians and cartographers are to be believed, the island of Japan. We landed at the northern portion of that island, forming twelve states, those being comprised of those that survived the trials. Those would be called the Twelve Tribes and under their consent, the Sunrisian Kingdom of Kita-Hinode was formed, under former Queen Mizzelinne of Western Sunrise and Calânia, now going under the name Queen Satomi of the Hinodejin.

This was taken from the previous Copa Rushmori, where I participated as Northern Sunrise Islands. The lands of the Unified Sunrise Islands and a bunch of my puppets disappeared and that's true, however the people were sent to a different dimension, the dimension being now populated by Kita-Hinode (Hinodejin Empire, the Gheists, the Swans, those guys in white and black).

I apologize if it came off as rather rude and backhanded when I signed up, but I did cement it previously, still as NSI. Additionally, both teams I've sent after retirement representing NSI were people traveling from that very dimension, using the DAISY to make the trip.

Searching this thread for "deadline" seems to indicate there's sometimes a cutoff time posted at some point. But probably the best suggestion would be to find a co-host without delay and get the bid posted.

(It could always be worse, I mentioned on IRC the other day I brainstormed Lulzy McBid Presents "Route 66: Buses of Fire" and could have opened tie-ins to either numbered highways and/or songs about them. Since the most likely outcome would be "re-open bids", I decided not to bother.)

A search of baptism of fire, BoF, deadline, and cut-off in this thread failed to reveal a time and date for a deadline. Neither is this informtion on the Pres announcement thread.

A partner has been found, now just threshing out the details. While we are trying to move fast, it's difficult when dealing with a nine-hour difference in time zones.

Remember Shop Owner and The Sword Bloke?
Well, he's back and ready for the new World Cup

Question though - can I enter the BoF with this account? I haven't been on NationStates in around 1 year plus
We are that nation ruled by Shop Owner.
Except this time, Joe Mixon and some Cincinnati Bengals friends are along too

You can enter the BoF with this nation, as this nation has not previously participated in the Baptism of Fire before.

Baptism of Fire entries, as far as I am aware, are linked to a nation (because of their rank) rather than linked to a user.

TLDR: Yes.
Esportivan and Proud.
<drawk> If the entirety of the nation of Ethane was covered in a single cubic foot of Ethane on its surface, lighting it all on fire would cause a 5.44 megaton blast.
Best WorldVision Finish: 2nd. Best World Cup Finish: Quarter-Finals. Best KPB Rank: 8th. Best WBC Finish: 1st.
