Group G Standings
Team (rank) Current Place
Torisakia (4) 1st
Estope (11) 2nd
HopNation (29) 4th
Borschlandia (42) 3rd
Semarland (74) 6th
Camerania (UR) 8th
Kazirstan (UR) 5th
Australian Council (UR) 7th

Eliminated | Advance
Well Crap
Looks like we couldn’t get a handle on things against Estope and now we are done, at least I’m saying we are done and thus the yellow text over our name in the group standings list. I mean sure we could tie Estope and Borschlandia on points but then what comes next, h2h points…both Estope and Borschlandia gets us (our two loses), GD…both Estope and Borschlandia get us (unless we score a crap load of goals in this last game). So as you can see we are out in the group stage, again. You would think with all of the lower leagues, the feeder leagues, and developmental leagues we have for Hockey in our nation we’d be a bit better on the international stage. But I guess our training just isn’t in line with the rest of the world. I don’t have the energy nor focus to write more about this pitiful team, lets just hope we go out in style and in the words of Gregoryisgodistan we crush Semarland (not literally, we’ll leave that to the true crushers).

Here’s to hoping we finish with 9 points. Until next time Brew On! Brew Well!

From the Desk of Lord Almighty Gregory

To: President of World Cup of Hockey Federation
Subject: A Compromise

Dear Mr. President,

I am writing to propose a compromise in the current dispute over our World Cup of Hockey XXIV title. We consider it unfair that our title is being stripped retroactively. This is particularly unfair since one of the instigators in the two incidents, Enemy Crusher Krusholli Crushsaintland, was not even on the roster during that tournament, and the other, Enemy Crusher Furfy "Junior Fatso" McFattel, merely served as backup goaltender and never saw any action. It is unfair to punish the rest of that team, some of whom are not even on this roster. Therefore, in exchange for you giving us our title back, we will make the following concessions.

1. All the fans involved in the murder of the Republican players will be either subject to trial in Quebec or extradited to Free Republics, at the discretion of you and the Quebecois government.
2. Enemy Crusher Furfy "Junior Fatso" McFattel and Enemy Crusher Krusholli Crushsaintland will be extradited to either San Jose Guayabal or Saintland (again, at the discretion of you and the Quebecois government.)
3. The Enemy Crushers agree to refrain from crushing any more players during Federation-sanctioned tournaments in the Atlantian Oceania region. To facilitate this, you will provide clarity on which hockey tournaments are Federation-sanctioned and which are not. Failure to provide this list by the start of the next non-WCoH tournament may result in this item being violated unintentionally, and we will not be subject to sanctions for it if the list has not been furnished. Obviously, the WCoH is Federation-sanctioned, so there will be no crushing there if it is in the Atlantian Oceania region.
4. We agree to pay any fine you wish to impose on us as a result of these incidents, including the original fine.
5. We both agree to revisit whether or not to reschedule Game 2 of the Finals or third place series due to Creation Day should we make it that far. No commitment will be made at the moment. However, if we do make it that far, you will not subsequently claim it is too late to change anything. We simply wished to provide as much advance notice as possible so an appropriate contingency plan could be made.

If you do not accept these conditions within 24 hours, or else make a reasonable counter-offer, we will commence with the nuclear bombing of multiple cities across Quebec, specifically all the cities that are hosting the World Cup of Hockey except for the one which our team happens to be in. There will be millions of civilian deaths, including all of the hockey teams participating at those venues. This is not the legacy you want for the beginning of your term as President. We are making you a very reasonable offer. I highly encourage you to accept it. If you do not accept it, there will be severe consequences.

As a show of good faith, we will be holding Enemy Crusher Krusholli Crushsaintland and Enemy Crusher Furfy "Junior Fatso" McFattel out of our game tonight against Friday Freshmen even though they are no longer suspended. The other three no-longer suspended players will play. This way, if you accept our offer in the middle of the game, we can quickly process them through whatever judicial process you want.

Once again, I would encourage you to accept these rather simple demands. You have 24 hours. The clock starts now. Please let me know of your intentions as soon as possible. Keep in mind that, for security reasons, once the nuclear weapons are launched, which they will be exactly 24 hours from now if you do not accept, we have no way of stopping them in progress. As a result, if you accept our offer 24 hours and one minute from now, the nuclear strikes will still occur and we cannot be responsible for that. Please do the right thing and accept within 24 hours. Otherwise, the deaths of millions will be on your hands.

Sincerely,

Lord Almighty Gregory

Haley Hasenpfeffer
From Quickipedia, the world's quickest encyclopedia
(Redirected from Haley Hasenfeffer)

Haley Hasenpfeffer (born December 6, 1986) is a Havl professional ice hockey goaltender currently playing for the Davenport Pilots in the Havl Hockey League (HHL).

Hasenpfeffer was selected in the second round, 16th overall by the Pilots in the HHL Entry Draft, thus becoming the third woman to be drafted by a professional hockey team in Havl. Following her draft, she continued her four-year tenure with the Davenport University Jets en route to winning two Dick Emblem Trophies as National University Athletics Association champions and three NUAA Finals appearances in her college career. Hasenpfeffer turned professional with the Pilots and served as the backup to legendary goaltender Davis Rich for her first season in the HHL. After Rich’s retirement, Hasenpfeffer became the Pilots’ starting goaltender, winning the inaugural Davis Rich Trophy for establishing the best team goals against average (GAA) in the HHL. In the following season, she won the Solo Cup with the Pilots to become the first female to win the HHL Championship as the starting goaltender.

Internationally, Hasenpfeffer has represented Havl at various junior levels. Early in her career, she played for Havl’s U-18 junior team before attending tryouts for the bespoke national team before World Cup of Hockey 23. Following Davis Rich’s retirement before the 24th edition of the tournament, Hasenpfeffer was called on to again replace her mentor, this time on the international stage. At the 24th World Cup of Hockey, Hasenpfeffer led the team to the Quarterfinals where they eventually fell to a relatively unknown Sicoutimont squad. Hasenpfeffer posted 10 wins and a 90.5 save percentage in 14 games for the national team. She was again named the team’s starting netminder for the 25th edition of the tournament which is currently in progress.

Dear Your Majesty Miley Ray Cyrus,

We would like to ask for military support against the heinous Gregoryisgodistanis and their illegitimate god. As they have already commenced unwarranted attacks in the Hicañan island of Benoit, previously owned by the neutral Royal Kingdom of Quebec, and have threatened missile attacks on Super-Llamaland and our allied countries of FLULON (The Former Llamanean Union League of Nations), which occupy the whole of Greater Llamanea.

Your support would be extremely welcome to help defend the world from the Gregoryisgodistani menace.

To: Lord Almighty Gregory
From: Hindmarsh Yoon, World Cup of Hockey Federation

To whom it may concern,

Your offer, after hours of consideration by myself and Mr. Jacques Lemieux, is accepted, with some additional words.

To commence, It is that the two instigators behind the offences involving the Gregoryisgodistani delegation will be extradited to San Jose Guayabal. Due to the current state of relations between Quebec and Saintland, His Majesty's Government and the Federation itself is reluctant on giving what St.Petrus wants. Therefore, Enemy Crusher Furfy "Junior Fatso" McFattel and Enemy Crusher Krusholli Crushsaintland will be extradited to San Jose Guayabal, for the reasons we have discussed earlier.

With hockey tournaments sanctioned by World Cup of Hockey Federation, excluding the very tournament itself, are World Junior Hockey Championships and Royal Alexandre Hockey Invitationals. With latter going to be hosted in Quebec for the foreseeable future, it is great to hear that none of what has happened in past two editions of the invitationals will happen, so thank you for being considerate.

The Federation, while condemning the murder of the Holy Republican Empire players by the Gregoryisgodistani fans, would also like to offer its condolences to the families and others related to 89 Gregoryisgodistani fans of their death from a Guayabalense militant group by the name of "Death Squad for Gregoryisgodistani Scum". No one deserves being killed in such ways, regardless of nationality one is part of.

Thanks for your offer. It's good to hear that a compromise was able to happen.

Sincerely,

Hindmarsh Yoon

.:: The Thunder Bay Dive, Kenora, The Royal Kingdom of Quebec ::.
1220 hours local time, 24 October 2014.3

The Thunder Bay Dive was a bar in the largest of the World Cup of Hockey Host cities. It was not the most impressive bar, mostly average in comparison to most locally-owned establishments, but it was the kind of place a famous out-of-towner could blend into so long as he avoid the fans of his nation's largest sport.

And Kad Skirata had done just that.

Sitting in a corner booth, Kad Skirata was looking at a tall glass of the local brew. It certainly wasn't netra gal, the rich dark ale that could boost even the lowest of spirits with just a sip, but it beat drinking water. The weather was rather reminiscent of his home back in Sundari. The clean air, coastal breezes, the biting cold... All made him feel that Quebec was more than just a friendly nation.

vzzzzm

Skirata looked down at the table, hearing the sound of his phone vibrating. The screen flashed a preview of the text, and Skirata slid his finger to unlock the phone. He scrolled up slightly before smiling and putting the phone back down. He knew the person meeting him ha walked in, and the text was the usual 'Where are you?' text everyone sends when they walk into an unfamiliar bar at twelve at night. Skirata could see the person across the room; an aged female who even at fifty still caught Skirata off-guard with how much he found her attractive. She certainly was on par with his wife Thien, though, he would never say that out loud.

Common ancestry was probably the cause... Me and my affinity for those Girls of Ba Sing Se.

"Coach Skirata, so good to see you," said a familiar voice as the woman approached the table.

"Vice President, so nice of you to meet me." Skirata stood to bow before Tie Lianhua reached the table, but she waved him off.

"Now now, Coach, please, call me Lianhua."

"Of course,"
Skirata smiled, motioning to the bench. "But only if you call me Kad."

Tie blushed slightly, taking a single strand of hair and tucking it behind her ear.

"Well, I see we made it out of the group stage."

"Fourth-highest ranked team,"
Skirata raised a hand to the barkeep, "But only ranked ninth after reseeding thanks to not winning our group."

"Those ponies sure caught us off guard."

"If only we had managed to not tie them on day three and then managed to win the Nassau-Hessen game and beat Novaya by more than a goal."

"Well, the Equestrian States have caused us trouble before,"
Tie spoke, extending a hand towards the approaching waitress. Skirata could not help but notice her manicure --- French --- before he turned to his drink again. His wife Thien always remarked how he seemed to appreciate manicures more than any other man, and seeing as how that was what drew his attention to his wife all those years ago in the Jasmine Dragon, he could not argue her there.

As Tie read over the menu, Skirata turned to his phone. He had a new message from Kio Huangshun, speaking of how on tomorrow's off-day they had managed to land the rink for practice from twelve to four. He also had a message from Sergeant Losef, asking him if he needed an escort home tonight; that trooper was a bit more cautious than the last couple of men who had been assigned to the National Team. Then again, no other World Cup had dealt with threats of nuclear strikes from a former World Cup champion nation who had murdered a dozen or so random members of the opponent's teams.

I cannot believe they made it out of qualifying. I swear, if we are playing on November 5, I will personally see to it that I take a piss on the Gregoryisgodistan flag myself for their 'holiday'.

"So Kad," Tie spoke, reaching out for Skirata's hand. "How do you think we will do now?"

"Well,"
Kad spoke, leaning back slightly in his seat. "We have to now take on Ko-oren, which is the team that knocked us out last World Cup after a coin-flip let them advance."

"Oh that is right... What a trio of games."

"Yes, it was. We lose by a goal in the first game, shut them out by a pair, and then in the third have to go to a shootout."

"And this Cup is only one match?"

"Actually"
Skirata spoke before draining his drink. The waitress bringing over the same ale for Tie smiled as she went to grab another for the Head Coach. "It is the same format as World Cup Twenty-Four in the Round of Sixteen."

"Interesting."

"Yes, though, Ko-oren has the same record as us."

"Five-and-two-nil?"

"Twelve points. Though, the only managed to score twenty goals in their seven games."

"How many did their opponents make?"

"Nine."

"Well..."

"Our opponents made eleven."

"But we made thirty..."

"Facing unknown teams,"
Skirata looked to the waitress as she handed him his ale. He smiled briefly, took another drink, and faced Tie. "But Lianhua, Ko-oren faced the likes of Quebec, Cosumar, and Mohawk Clans."

"Cosumar and Mohawk haven't been any real competition since before we won the Cup,"
Tie said, picking her glass up and sipping. Kad always admired how well-mannered Earth Kingdom girls were. Even Tie, who was raised in Republic City, would never be found dead drowning a beer or tossing back shots or even chugging an ale at a meshgeroya match. "And even then, we beat Mohawk both times we had faced them."

"And Cosumar gave our team its first defeat in history in our first game of our first cup, if you remember."
Skirata laughed before taking another swig of his ale.

"Very true... very true."

"All we can do is focus on the first game on Saturday, and hope we can take them in two."

"How does Ko-oren look this year?"

"About the same as always. A Minus-Five on ASPN, preferring to keep the game close until the final moments and then exploding out."

"Really?"

"Yeah, they tied Quebec in the second matchday, before going on to beat Cosumar by a goal that Novotnee scored late in the second and then watched the defence keep the Ice Dragons scoreless throughout the third."

"Sounds about right."

"Then came that lone-goal against the Clans. Nothing spectacular there."

"What about their 3-1 victory over Narsora?"

"Kostantinovich scored twice, Novotnee scored one,"
Skirata said, pausing for another drink. "But you have to look at through the game. Kostantinovich scored first on a powerplay and then again thanks to a defensive break-down on the Narsoran side."

"What about Novotnee?"

"He also scored on the powerplay, but we have been thinking about how to address him since he has proven quite the goal scorer. A winger, we'll just have to keep him a bit tied up with size and strength and watch out for any attempts to breakaway and get a shot off."

"And their final game? Wasn't it a tie?"

"Yes... Three-all against eventual fifth-in-the-group Isula ge Ru."

"Three goals given? I thought Ko-oren was mostly defence?"

"Yes, but the team from Islua ge Ru, while unranked proved to be a bit stronger than you would expect..."

And so the conversation went on through the night. One, the man in charge of leading his team to victory. The other, a woman trying her best to represent such a proud hockey nation in the first term of the first World Cup of Hockey Federation.

They shared much in common...

And when the bar closed down, they continued to share more well into the night...

World Cup of Hockey Bracket Predictor

Here we go, rolling through the World Cup of Hockey Playoff Bracket, we we attempt to predict who will win what series.

First Round:

#1 Havl vs. #16 Estope Havl is the second-best team in the world. Estope is an over-achieving team whose name rhymes with dope. It is only fitting that it rhymes with dope because Estope has proven itself incompetent and is lucky to have advanced this far. Havl takes this series in a cakewalk. Prediction: Havl in 2

#8 Ko-oren vs. #9 Gyatso-Kai This is an interesting series. Ko-oren is a good defensive team but Gyatso-Kai actually finished with a better record in spite of finishing in second place in their group. This will be a very tightly contested series, and it will likely go the full length. Ultimately, however, we like Gyatso-Kai. Prediction: Gyatso-Kai in 3

#4 Torisakia vs. #13 Vilita and Turori Torisakia is one of the top teams in the world. Vilita and Turori is up there too. This should be a very good series. However, we have top take Torisakia in a sweep. Prediction: Torisakia in 2

#5 Vaugania vs. #12 Saintland Saintland managed to finish second in a group that included defending champions and world #1 Gregoryisgodistan, in spite of beating the Ice Slaves. Beating Gregoryisgodistan is no easy feat, and we like the Saintland team to overcome Vaugania's home-ice advantage. Prediction: Saintland in 3

#6 Aquitayne vs. #11 Royal Kingdom of Quebec it was a good draw for Quebec, facing arguably the weakest group winner. This should not give the Quebecois any trouble at all. Prediction: Quebec in 2

#3 Equestrian States vs. #14 Zenic The ponies have struggled in the knockout rounds of the WCoH before, but Zenic is the lowest-ranked team here. The ponies will again struggle, but will just barely move on. Prediction: Equestrian States in 3

#7 Gregoryisgodistan vs. #10 Transalpine Republic Speaking of cakewalks, Gregoryisgodistan also has a cakewalk here. They're the world #1, the defending champion, and are facing a team from Transalpine Republic that is one of the lowest-ranked teams here in the playoff. Ice Slaves sweep easily. Prediction: Gregoryisgodistan in 2

#2 Hicana vs. #15 Nova Anglicana Talk about cakewalks for the Ice Slaves. They face the winner of this series. Neither team is all too great. It's going to be a close series, but not necessarily a good one. Prediction: Hicana in 3

And now for the projected quarterfinals

#1 Havl vs. #9 Gyatso-Kai Havl's days as a dynasty are over. Say hello to the new dynasties of Gyatso-Kai and Gregoryisgodistan. Havl will be knocked out early for the second straight tournament. Prediction: Gyatso-Kai in 3

#4 Torisakia vs. #12 Saintland Saintland will be anxious to avenge the death of Prince Josephus and the other players and will look to make it to the final so they can face Gregoryisgodistan again. We'll get to how far they'll get later, but they should at least win this series with all their motivation. Prediction: Saintland in 2

#11 Royal Kingdom of Quebec vs. #3 Equestrian States The horses' run ends here. The Royal Kingdom of Quebec has home ice and is the better team. They'll take this in a sweep. Prediction: Quebec in 2

#7 Gregoryisgodistan vs. #2 Hicana This could be a bloody matchup in response to ongoing political events and recent clashes between the two that saw murders of fans and players alike. But since the World Cup of Hockey Federation appears to have calmed the Enemy Crushers for the time being, we might not see deaths. Regardless, we will see a Gregoryisgodistan sweep because Hicana just isn't very good. Prediction: Gregoryisgodistan in 2

Now for the semifinals.

#12 Saintland vs. #9 Gyatso-Kai This is a very intriguing series. The Sanctii would love to get to the final and get another crack at the Ice Slaves, looking to ruin their title hopes. But Gyatso-Kai may be too good. The Sanctii will take this series to the limit, but will ultimately lose. Prediction: Gyatso-Kai in 3

#11 Royal Kingdom of Quebec vs. #7 Gregoryisgodistan Finally the Ice Slaves face a quality opponent, and one that has home-ice advantage nonetheless. It will be a tough matchup for Gregoryisgodistan, their toughest challenge yet, but they will move on, barely. Prediction: Gregoryisgodistan in 3

Now, let's look at the third-place game.

#12 Saintland vs. #11 Royal Kingdom of Quebec Saintland will not be particularly motivated for this series after having missed out on a chance to beat the Ice Slaves and win the title. Quebec, meanwhile, will have the crowd behind them. We think they take this easily. Prediction: Quebec in 2

And finally, the championship series, which is best of 5.

#9 Gyatsko-Kai vs. #7 Gregoryisgodistan This is a matchup of the last two champions. It's going to be an extremely tight series and one that will likely go the distance to five games. But the Ice Slaves have motivation after two of their players were extradited and 89 of their fans were murdered. They are also trying to avenge what they view as unfair treatment by the World Cup of Hockey Federation and an attempt to interfere with Enemy Crushers. Gregoryisgodistan comes out angry and takes this series and their second straight title. Prediction: Gregoryisgodistan in 5

"Hello, Neu Engollon. I'm Karl Demais and you're watching the NETV Sports 7 Update. As you may have seen, the Ibex are now out of the running for the Cup, not even able to make it past the tough group stage. The toughest part was that they only lost one game...Ever. One game lost in the group phase, but two ties were enough to send them packing, as other group leaders Hicana and Transalpine Republic were able to keep a better point spread and defeat most of their opponents.
NEHL officials are reviewing the point system difference between those teams that competed in Vaugania, versus those that competed in Quebec. No word yet on whether they will lodge any type of official protest.

The Ibex will be flying into Albertville to a hero's welcome, as hundreds flock to the International airport to greet them. Flower shops have reported record sales in the area. It will be a bittersweet welcome home.
A lot of heartbreak has washed over and a lot of questions unanswered. It was a horrible cap to the season as a send off for our retiring Ibex players, who most likely hoped to spend their last season in a more positive, advanced stage for the team; going out with a bang! so to speak.
Neighboring nation Gaul were also eliminated rather quickly in their group stage. It may take a few more years for their national hockey program to mature to International competition standards.
Now, Astyrian hopes are pinned to Aquitayne, that other hockey powerhouse nation of the region. Many Ibex fans in the area are cheering them on as they must face the hosts, Quebec, in their first Round of Sixteen game. The odds are steep, but we have confidence that Aquitayne has a fighting chance. We will carry that game here on NETV Sports 7, on delay. Thanks for watching, Neu Engollon...and the world."

WCoH Predictions and Bets- Round of Sixteen

Georges Lecavalier
16th of February, 2018

SARNIA, ROYAL KINGDOM OF QUEBEC- Round of 24's now over, with its share of kisses and goodbyes. Now with the number of teams in contention just 16 out of 64 teams, series of puck drops in The Royal Barangay will mark the beginning of a three-day process that'll determine who'll make the cut to the Quarterfinals. Here are my guesses and current betting rates at Royal Montreal Casino!

#1 Havl vs. #16 Estope
Betting Rate: Havl: -$60, Estope: +$145
Looking back at their performance, it is hard to believe that there once was a time when Havl wasn't looking as dominant as they were in the old days. After retooling their squad in past 2(or in Havlean calendar, 4) years after an embarassing quarterfinal defeat to Sicoutimont, they came back to the World Cup with an extremely dominant performance in all aspects of the game. Their Firing Squad has been raking in points from everywhere, defence looked stronger despite loss of Brian Beirele, and the player depth is remarkable, not to mention Hasenpfeffer overcoming adversities raised earlier and proving herself as the legit starter in shoes of Davis Rich.

On the contrary, Estopians looked extremely out of shape and are on their long and inevitable decline. They simply don't have the fire and depth of their opponents, as well as the latter's ability to make clutch plays when one struggled. There is this one major that stands out in particular, and that is their ability to push further. Estope never brought any significant achievements on-ice, and will continue their futility into this playoffs. Havl in 2.

#2 Hicana vs. #15 Nova Anglicana
Betting Rates: Hicana: -$95, Nova Anglicana: +$110
Not enough information on either sides, but my guess goes to Nova Anglicana, for its superior discipline and powerplay. Hicana, despite having whole team playing as QHL franchise Sept-Iles Flyers, lacks much of that and with their PK being among the worst in top 16 qualifiers, it should be expected that the underdogs should be able to win. Nova Anglicana in 3.

#3 Equestrian States vs. #14 Zenic
Betting Rates: Equestrian States: -$90, Zenic: +115

Technical error. More to be processed....

#4 Torisakia vs. #13 Vilita and Turori
Betting rate: Torisakia: -$90, Vilita and Turori: $103
This is a battle between veterans, one on gradual rise and other on stagnation. Torisakians have continued their dominant group stage and quarterfinals finish into this WCoH, easily clenching the group title in what was a packed one including the likes of traditional performer of Estope and risers in HopNation and Borschlandia. On the contrary Vilita and Turori continued to disappoint, as the Ice Cat Things squandered their opportunity to bounce back in familiar ice of Northwestern AO and placed 2nd to lowly Aquitayne. Scoring seemed to be a huge issue for them, despite playing offensive style of play, something that could possibly be blamed on Head Coach Avalan Marcraw. On the other hand they have years of experience on ice, and are composed of veterans, who are even more seasoned than the Ice Birds.

With such factors involved, it is a pretty challenging task to answer. I think Torisakia will pull off with a win in the end, but then would require 3 tough games to overcome the Ice Cat Things and their offence.

#5 Vaugania vs. #12 Saintland
Betting rates: Vaugania: -$90, Saintland: +$115

Host playing the Sanctii with home crowd all over them? Should be a nice, 3-game series for the hosts to win on. We have yet to see on whether the Ice Eagles can finally impact on playoff stage though, so that'll be a huge factor to watch as well.

#6 Aquitayne vs. #11 Royal Kingdom of Quebec
Betting rates: Aquitayne: +$135, Royal Kingdom of Quebec: -$60
This is what people would expect as a really easy series, but should end in ease. Royal Kingdom of Quebec had a decent group stage in which they showed most of what they had and could do, excluding a blatant joke of refereeing by Sanctii referees in a 4-3 loss to Narsora(destruction of Narsoran community in Quebec ensued in the subsequent riots, but whatever). Offence can still score lots of goals, while defence is like usual, preferring to jump into the offence instead of defence. Aquitayne, on the other hand, may looks to be strong with its group title, but at the same time they didn't look that dominant at all, not to mention lacking the key characteristics that define other contenders. Considering their placement in what was an extremely weak Group D, this was disappointing. Royal Kingdom of Quebec in 2 games.

#7 Gregoryisgodistan vs. #10 Transalpine Republic
Defending Champion and #1 ranked nation vs. a nobody with barely activity in the radar? It's pretty easy to guess. With improvements in offensive corps, as well as stellar showing by rest of the team in absence of enemy crushers, it should be a cakewalk for the Ice Slaves. Gregoryisgodistan in 2 games.

#8 Ko-oren vs. #9 Gyatso-kai
Betting rates: Ko-oren: -$90, Gyatso-Kai: +$106
This is the matchup that everybody's looking forward to, regardless of your region. This is the battle of two extremites, with Ko-oren displaying the Trojana of defense and Gyatso-Kai firing in all cylinders. The Dragonflice looked extremely solid, finishing the group stage undefeated while Ice Bisons faltered often against some unexpected overachievers and normal-placers. In addition, the former has advantage in having a huge Ko-orenite expat population in Quebec when playing in Kozlovska Place.
Based on this, it is widely expected that the Ko-orenites would win with relative ease.
I would differ on my opinion on that however. Ice Bisons, being longstanding power in hockey, have countless of playoff appearances to make its marks. They have won a WCoH, placed third once and then stood on their heads whenever they needed to. Dragonflice, on the other hand, doesn't have that experience to boost themselves of credibility and their over-reliance on power play will severely hurt their offence and the team come the playoffs. Thus, I would expect Gyatso-Kai to win, but in 3 games that could go either way.

Stars Align For Lions, Make Playoffs

Martin Granger, Staff Reporter

Following their 4-2 defeat against The Fair Republic, the Nova Anglicana Lions were just one point out of second place and that coveted playoff spot. With only sixteen spots available for sixty-four teams, making the playoffs would be a prestigious achievement. Facing off against Terre des Gaules, the odds were good that the Lions would finish 5-0-2 with ten points. Unfortunately, they needed The Fair Republic to lose to "Zips Nation". If TFR tied, they would also have ten points and would beat out the Lions on the H2H tiebreaker. The Zips only had wins over North Britonisea and Arvenida, the other unrankeds in the group, so expecting a win was unlikely. It looked like the Lions were sunk. But the TFR-ZN game was scheduled for earlier in the day, so at least they would know before their game whether or not they had a shot to advance.

Behind closed doors, the Lions groaned and roared with every missed shot, penalty, and big hit. When the Zips finally broke through in the third period, the noise was deafening. The Zips did their job by closing out their 1-0 victory and giving the Lions a chance to move on. The Lions got off to a slow start, though. They trailed their Francophone opponents 1-0 thanks to a 14:51 goal by David Guilbert. They were outshot 14-8 and committed three penalties in the period. The second and third periods were much different. Rookie Leif Haas got things going with a wrister at 2:46, and almost before the crowd stopped celebrating, Derek Jensen rifled one home over a Josh Russell screen to give the Lions the lead at 3:01. Fourth-pair defenseman Matt Washington rocketed home a shot t 10:45 that nearly knocked the goal off its moorings to extend the lead to two goals. Jordan Bergeron nabbed his second goal of the WCoH at 19:54, a blow that took whatever wind was left out of the sails of the Coqs. Troy Parker capped the scoring at 5:45 of the third, and the Lions cruised to a 5-1 win and a spot in the playoffs.

Asked what the secret was to their resurgence (they outshot TdG 29-12 the rest of the way), captain Andrés Kelly replied, "We just loosened up out there. We were very tense in the first period, but Troy [Parker] reminded us of how good we were and how much fun we have playing this game. Once we realized that, it was very simple to handle the rest of the game."

The win got the Lions to the playoffs for the second straight year, and they will face the Hicaña Flyers, the #2 seed overall. Hicaña is ranked 18th to the Lions' 21st, but they steamrolled their opponents in the group stage. They averaged over four goals per game (the Lions averaged just over three) and permitted about a goal and a half per game (the Lions allowed a little more than two per game), so they are formidable. The Quebecois bettors have the underdogs (or underlions, as it were) in three, while the Gregoryisgodistani media, believing that "Neither team is all too great", have the Flyers in three. The winner of this series would likely advance to face the Ice Slaves, who have underachieved so far, grabbing the #7 seed despite their place at the top of the rankings. That being said, they are still extremely tough, and the Lions have to beat the refugee state of Hicaña before they can even think about battling their former North American neighbor. I like the Lions in three, but it will be just as tough as everyone thinks it will. The Lions' combination of veteran know-how and players in their prime will allow them to prevail.

Saintland National Hockey Team advances to Round of 16 amid Uncertainty

(SP) While many in the Kingdom are speculating that the Saintland National Hockey Team may be disbanded following the conclusion of the current World Cup of Hockey, the National Hockey Team is cautiously optimistic going into their Round of 16 series against Vaugania. Their most recent game, several days ago, was a 5 to 4 victory against some Republican teenagers who worship "Lucifer," which is another name for Satanas. While this result, in a must-win game no less, was much closer than it should have been, considering the massive gulf in class between the sides, it was still a victory for a team that has been hampered by a certain rogue state from Esportiva. "This World Cup of Hockey has been a nightmare for all of us. It is an absolute farce that those thugs from southern Esportiva were not immediately tossed out of this tournament and barred from entering all future international sporting competitions, but we must play on even though 5 of our teammates are now in Caelum. Actually, I'm not sure how we've managed to even make it to the Round of 16 after everything that we've gone through, but we did and that is all that matters. At this moment, I'm just happy to be able to leave the Royal Kingdom of Quebec and travel to Vaugania, even if we have to face the Vauganians. Right now, we can only pray that God will be with us every time that we step onto the ice because I just don't know if we're good enough to compete at this level." - Acting Captain Thomas Clovius

This World Cup of Hockey has taken place in the shadow of the recent decision by the Quebecois to provide city-killers to a nation run by a genocidal madman. Therefore, the incidents of violence that have happened in this tournament should come as no surprise to anybody. Quebec has shown, of late, a total disregard for international security and a total disregard for safety. This only makes the decision by the Executive World Cup Committee to award the Baptism of Fire to Quebec and The Sarian a rather bizarre decision. The final vote total was 9 to 1. But, at least the only victims of this policy will be those 45 nations that have, foolishly, elected to enter the Baptism of Fire this time around, instead of waiting for the 58th edition, presumably to be hosted in a nation that is more concerned about safety. (OOC: The preceding was IC-only, of course. In fact, I voted for the very BoF bid that I am ICly criticizing.)

The SP would also like to comment on the growing trend of predicting the outcomes of playoff series. We wish to remind several foreign nations that only God knows what the future holds. Therefore, it is blasphemous to pretend that you can forecast the future, when prophecy is a gift that comes from God and God alone. While God used to grant that gift during Biblical times, God no longer permits any of His creations to know the future, outside of the prophecies contained within His Eternal, Inerrant and Unchanging Word. To predict who will win a series at the World Cup of Hockey is to commit blasphemy against your Creator and that is something that He will not tolerate. The Saintland Press urges foreign media outlets to repent of their sins and stop publishing purported predictions about the future. What you are doing is an abomination to God and make no mistake about it, if you do not repent, everybody responsible will spend eternity burning in the fires of Infernus, so stop, just STOP, for the sake of your eternal soul!

World Cup of Hockey - Jersey Fouls

Go to any hockey game in any country and you're bound to see fans in the home team's jerseys. Typically, hockey fans sport the name and number of their favorite player or a retired hero who played for the team. But here at The Blue Line, we like to keep our eyes peeled for something we call jersey fouls. What's a jersey foul? Here's our definition:

jer·sey foul - noun - \ˈjər-zē ˈfau̇(-ə)l\
A sports jerseys that contains errors, is egregiously customized, or is otherwise uniquely offensive

There are many ways that a jersey can become a foul, but they are generally categorized along the following criteria:

  • Wrong Sport: It's OK to love football or rugby, but when you're at a hockey game, wear a hockey sweater! It's that simple. Some argue whether this includes baseball hats, but if you're going to wear a jersey, make sure it's sport-appropriate.
  • Misspelled Name: Remember, folks; there are two Ns in Donndelinger, and there's a P inside of Hasenpfeffer. This goes for jersey numbers, too. Jason State is #19 and Austin State is #33, never the other way around.
  • Wrong Jersey: "Wouldn't it be cool to see Adam Fleer in a Capital City jersey?" No. No, it wouldn't. And you look dumb for wearing it/paying for it. That goes for awful wrong-sport crossovers (like the Davis Rich football jersey that I saw at a Pilots game once. Yuck.)
  • Pink: Look, ladies love hockey. It's a proven fact. But the Captains wear red, not pink. Everyone can look great in a legit, accurate jersey at the game. There's no need for pink, purple (or, for that matter, black-for-black's-sake) atrocities.
  • Nicknames: We get it--you love Brad Neubauer. But you're not "The Future Mrs. Neubauer." Nor are you "#1 Fan" or "Mr. Awesome." And if you're going to shell out the $200 for a Zaradnik jersey, don't put "Zaradical" on the back. Respect the players and respect yourself.
  • Trying Too Hard: Everyone knows the Pilots have seven championships; everyone knows the Phantoms have zero. There's no need to gloat with a "Championships" jersey #7 nor a "Still waiting" jersey #'14. That goes for "Caps Suck" and "Poo-bauer" sweaters, too.

With the 25th edition of the World Cup of Hockey heading into the Round of Sixteen, it's time to look at some of the jersey fouls that have caught our attention.

DIY Customization Gone Wrong
Image
Spotted: Havl vs. North Britonisea
This fan had an idea to update his outdated Havl sweater into a new one in support of winger Jason State. Using duct tape, a Sharpie, and the writing skills of a five-year-old, this fan defaced updated his jersey to honor the long-time member of the Firing Squad. Based on the stripes and the crest on the chest, this abomination appears to be a Justin Donndelinger home white jersey from WCoH 21. What you can't see in this picture is that this fan also taped over the captain's C on the front. Sacrilege! Why not just wear the Donndelinger jersey as-is?

Charge: Wrong Jersey. State wore a jersey like this in WCoH 21, but not with duct tape.
Verdict: Guilty

Frankenjersey: Gyatso-kai + Torisakia = One Ugly Jersey
Image
Spotted: Gyatso-kai vs. Soviet Canuckistan
We all know that the Gyatso-kai / Torisakia matchup in the Round of Sixteen is going to be epic. These two teams have long been fixtures in the WCoH. Apparently, this fan couldn't decide on her allegiance and sacrificed two perfectly good jerseys to create one dreadful Frankenjersey. It's too bad; separately, they're great sweaters. But the ungainly combination of sky blue, black, red, and yellow looks like something you'd have to wash off the sidewalk after a Harleston Knights victory.

Charge: Wrong Jersey. I hope this fan doesn't wear this to the matches this week. Talk about a way to make everybody unhappy.
Verdict: Guilty

Jersey Name-Calling AKA How to Get Crushed
Image
Spotted: Transalpine Republic vs Polar Islandstates
We all know about the ongoing controversy/situation involving Gregoryisgodistan and several other participating WCoH nations. Although The Blue Line has tried to stay out of the politics and focus on sports reporting, we do have to comment on this jersey. Spotted on the shoulders of a Transalpine Republic fan at a game last week, this jersey made us worry about its wearer. We doubt that this wayward fan represents his nation-at-large, but this is the kind of classless namecalling that we hate to see on a jersey.

Charge: Trying Too Hard. Using a custom jersey to name-call is pretty expensive (and, we fear, more than a little dangerous in this case).
Verdict: Guilty

OOC: I tried my best to recreate Gyatso-kai, Torisakia, and Transalpine Republic jerseys. I'm no graphics expert, so please excuse any inconsistencies in these designs. Also, no hard feelings when it comes to the jersey fouls: I figured that you could find fans in any country who wear the kind of jersey fouls that you see at almost any hockey game.

Kingston, Frontenac, Royal Kingdom of Quebec
21:39 hours local time, 26th of January, 2018

Fenwick Drive was unusually packed outside, with all the cars in its two narrow lanes jamming up. Being located in quiet, middle-class Davisville area, it's usually quiet in nighttime and with St.Louis Avenue about a kilometre away, it was normally quiet. It was not this time however, as the row of guests came into a small, 2-floored house located in 19 Fenwick Drive.

Father.

Entering the room, Alexandre entered the master bedroom with a great force. Fresh off 3-hour ride along Namyangjoo Highway from Sarnia in his Porsche Cayenne, he looked very much in extreme distress and worry. The atmosphere in the very room was nearly empty, but packed with fear. Everyone else of the family and friends were outside worrying and mourning for the impending loss of a great man, but then the death's presence was more than enough to cover all those absences.

It was evident to the 27-year old that the death was near his father, now lying in his bed. The harsh weather outside his home wasn't that helpful either, for it only worsened the mood for all. City of Kingston, for the second consecutive year, was experiencing heavy snowstorms for more than 10 days in a row.

"Alex," His father, 60-year old Frederic Hahm, said to his son with what left of his voice. He smiled at his two sons.

”Father.” Alexandre responded, being as alert as he could be. Beside him stood Jean-Sebastien Browne, a much shorter man dressed in a wool sweater knitted by his accountant girlfriend.

“Thank god you came.” Jean-Sebastien responded, before giving his older brother a pat on back. Jean-Sebastien, the shorter and with brown hair of the Browne brothers, had a much tougher life than his brother. A first round pick of Shawinigan Cataractes, he played for 4 seasons, including 3 as Captain, on Kingston Knights, winning 3 Memorial Cup Championships (2011, 2012, and 2013).

Being forced to retire after a display of on-ice stroke that nearly took his life while playing for Shawinigan, the former blueliner decided to rely on his another passion of mathematics to make his ends met. Just graduating from University of Ottawa with a B.Sc. and B.Ed., Browne just got a job as grade 9 and 10 mathematics teacher in a Kingston-area public school. The past 2 days he took a leave however, as his father’s conditions rapidly deteriorated to the point where someone was needed. Right now, Jean-Sebastien looked very exhausted, to the point where he needed to get some sleep.

“Get some sleep, JS.” Alexandre, seeing the signs of his brother’s exhaustion, said to him to get some sleep while he can. Quebecois funeral traditions indicate that the sons and daughters of the dead, while at the first three days past one’s death, needs to refrain from sleeping. At least one of the two must be awake, so it was best for Jean-Sebastien to go to sleep while Alexandre gives his father the best he could. In turn, Jean-Sebastien quickly withdrew and walked to the guest bedroom (He had his own place, with his girlfriend).

Tu-Dunnnn….

The door closed. Alexandre quickly holds his father’s hands, looking into his dark eyes, a characteristics of a Korean Quebecois in his elderly age. Neither of the Browne kids had those eyes. Alexandre possessed light blue eyes, which he inherited from his now-deceased mother, while Jean-Sebastien carried purple eyes that his great-grandfather from maternal side had.

Father….. Alexandre said with last of his breath that he carried with him at the time. His father, after years of smoking and drinking heavily, looked very weak for a man of his capacity. Alexandre remembered back in childhood days, when Frederic and Amelie would take Alex and Jean-Sebastien to their hockey practices every morning and games in occasional evenings. Looking in the stands, Frederic would take a good ole’ Cheongsangari or Cordero Cuban Cigars and smoke it while watching the game, trying to analyse his boys’ movements, a huge contrast to his wife Amelie, who never smoked or drank for all the 45 years she had known Frederic Hahm.

"I knew that my days here are numbered and reduced drastically," Frederic smiled, before trying to laugh it off in his classic fashion, "It was only yesterday that I smoked three packets a day and drank lots of Kozlovka....Who knew that it'd all end so soon?"

”Please don’t say that you’re leaving……You can’t!” The son shouted in fear, his voice smelling and filled with such sentiments.

"My son, the time has come for me to say goodbye," Frederic said back to his son in Korean, his mother tongue, before pointing into the air, "Your mother is waiting for me to join her, like how I always tried to do so back in college."

Alexandre turned around and saw a huge picture of his mother, Amelie Browne. A Quebecois-Accadorlan from Providence, she moved back to Kingston with her mother when she was still in her early childhood. From there she grew up and lived there until university, when she left for Queen's University, in Kingston. But before leaving, she had known a guy a year younger than him, this kid from Praha by the name of you know, Fred Han.

"I still remember how your mother looked, on the first day I had met her officially. It was at 2nd day of school and she was the head of Yanggoong Klub, while I was this kid just learning the sport..."

He coughed, before continuing to phrase his sentence. Alexandre meanwhile was in nostalgia. All the memories, of his loving mother coming into his mind. After graduating from university with a degree in maths, she married that very colleague who came on many weekends to visit her and few of his friends, all the way from Montreal. They, one elementary school teacher and other high school classics teacher, came home once again.

"And the first time that we went into the house.... He was now recalling the memories of his times spent with his wife, especially that moment when they were just settling down into their lives as teachers and married couple. Alexandre wasn't in plan at the time, but through pictures he remembered a bit of what he was talking about.

"Then the Cup......" For whatever the reason he pushed his memory diary a long time ahead, all the way to the very time when Alexandre first won his 2 Prenneau Cups, in home turf. Frederic was happy to see his son, after all the years of juggling hockey, music and studies, managed to succeed, and rightaway cried when Alexandre and his teammates Dave Clark and Sylvain Turcotte brought the trophy to the place. The very next morning he brought it to Amelie's grave.

"I'm coming, my beautiful...." Frederic moaned his last words out of his mouth. Then his pulse stopped beating, as his face turned sideways. He looked calmer than he's ever been the past 14 years, when Amelie Browne passed away at the age of 47 due to cancer. Frederic's life since then has been miserable, even as he led his students and classics teams to many provincial championships on individual and team basis. His smoking and drinking habits have gotten a lot worse and while he never attempted to lay his hands on his kids, Frederic still got lung cancer just last year. He didn't regret it however, and even as he was suffering through gradual death of his body, he just decided that this perhaps was the way he wanted things to end, so that he could be with Amelie again.

And now, he's out of the earth, as Alexandre cried on and on, before anyone else following it up from downstairs or next door....

Lord Almighty Gregory's Speech to the People

"Good morning, ladies, gentlemen, and slaves. It has come to my attention that the Saintland Press, the instrument of written evil throughout the Kingdom of Saintland, has reported that the Sanctii national team may be withdrawing from future World Cups of Hockey as a result of the actions of our brave and noble Enemy Crushers. I want to reiterate that the Enemy Crushers' actions were both glorious and heroic, in spite of what international observers might claim. Should Saintland never participate in the World Cup of Hockey again, we will consider this a proud victory for our Enemy Crushers, banishing heathens from the most glorious hockey tournament in the multiverse. There will never again be a World Cup of Hockey champion other than Gregoryisgodistan. We will win every World Cup of Hockey between now and the end of time. I am the Lord Your God who created the Multiverse and I will personally ensure victory for our beloved Ice Slaves.

"Furthermore, I am declaring every game for the rest of this tournament a 'Must Watch' game. All Gregoryisgodistanis will be required to watch it or be executed along with their families. The only people exempt are law enforcement officials who may enforce this law and other laws during the games. Even fire and medical people will not be exempt. They must watch the game. If your house catches fire, stay inside and watch the game. We will put the fire out when the game is over. If you're having a heart attack, stay at home and watch the game. You'll get help when it ends. If you die, too bad. Would you want to miss the game just because some fool set his house on fire? I think not. So deal with your fires. Deal with your medical issues. Don't let them happen during hockey games if you want to live. Just don't. You need to watch the Ice Slaves. The one exception will be if we are forced to play on Creation Day, in which case watching the game will of course be forbidden and everyone will have to attend services. Speaking of which, now that we have a cakewalk to the semifinals, which would guarantee us a place in either the final or third place game, I believe now is the time to revisit the scheduling of Game 1 of those series on Creation Day. Whichever one of those series does not involve us can be played on Creation Day. However, we will almost certainly make one of those series, and we would request that that one not be played on Creation Day. You can either move the whole thing up a day, or just play after midnight on November 6. It's up to you. Ideally there would be couple hours after midnight so our players have time to break the fast and warm up, but if you insist on starting at 12:01 AM on November 6, we will follow your orders rather than play on Creation Day. Just don't be surprised if our players hold Creation Day ceremonies on the bench area immediately before the game. This will involve praying and worshiping to me to remember the day, November 5 Year 0000, when I created the multiverse in my infinite beneficence. Fans will of course be encouraged to join in the praying and praising. In fact, any fan who wishes to attend Creation Day services with our team to experience the awesome power of the Lord is welcome to do so. We will welcome them with open arms. The world will all someday recognize that I am the Lord Your God, but we can convert people a little at a time. I am immortal, so if I have to wait 10,000 years for the whole world to convert, so be it. But someday, the whole world will accept me for who I really am - the God Almighty, the Creator of the Multiverse.

"Finally, I wish to congratulate the Ice Slaves, who went up 1-0 in the series against Transalpine Republic last night. It looks like we will head to the quarterfinals and possibly face Hicana, who is up 1-0 on Nova Anglicana right now. That would be a rematch of the Royal Alexandre Hockey Invitational game that saw the stabbing deaths of multiple Ice Slaves and the crushings of countless Hicanans. Unfortunately, the Enemy Crushers are no longer allowed to crush anyone, but we will find some way to get revenge on Hicana's fans and players. Winning would be the best thing, but that is necessary but not sufficient. And that player with a blasphemous name, the third incarnation of a player with that name after we killed the first two (OOC: GregGod LOL) will die again. Mark my words. He will die again if I have to kill him myself. We might also consider detonating a solar-powered bomb at the hotel the fans are staying at while they are assembling in the lobby waiting for the bus to the arena. This would likely destroy the hotel and surrounding area as the solar-powered bombs have the strength of atom bombs. ortunately, we also have toned-down solar-powered bombs that I recently created that have the strength of pipe bombs so we do not kill innocent people, only Hicanans. They will, if placed properly, kill everyone in the lobby but nobody else, and if timed right, there will be few if any innocent deaths. We will even send the desk clerk on a bogus mission to get some towels for someone right before we detonate the bombs so she is not killed. Of course, that is only if Hicana gets to the quarterfinal against us. But if we do, it will be glorious. Death to Hicana! Also, Death to Saintland! And Death to Free Republics! Death to Super-Llamaland! Death to everyone else on our Enemy List! May all our enemies be vanquished and destroyed! I am the Lord Your God! Now get back to work, especially you slaves."

.:: Loading Dock A-02, Kozlovka Place, Kenora, Royal Kingdom of Quebec ::.
0002 hours local time, 26 October 2014.3

The harsh winds coming off of Lake Superior was enough to send a shiver through most men in even the thickest of winter coats. Yet alone on a loading dock, one man stood as stoic as even the most granite of statues as the wind continued to send the light snow pelting into his face and coat as if they were bullets of an impending attack.

I grew up in weather much worse than this... This is almost summer.

Pakku Ito laughed at his own thoughts as he stood on the dock. The game had ended hours ago, and most of the other players had already returned to the hotel, but Ito was waiting for someone to join him. The night had been a relatively good night for the veteran defenceman; the lone goal of the night had come from his his stick on the breakaway.

Pakku Ito : The Sunset of His Career

He could remember the headline on the newspaper he had read while waiting in line to board the plane to Quebec. Sunset, Ito thought looking to his watch, The sun may be setting, but I am just as good now as I was three cups ago. Ito thought of the gifts given to those of the Avatarian realms. He was thirty-six, an age when most players were retiring or already retired, and he was still able to keep up with the younger players on the second line. Haran, when he led the defence practices last night, he was out-skating all of the younger players like 20-year-old Shao Lee who had replaced him on the first line.

It isn't personal, Pakku. You have been a great asset to this team since its founding...We just need to start looking to the future.

Ishikawa Hiraku had called him into his office with Kad Skirata and Kio Huangshun --- assistant coach of the Ice Bisons --- after the end of the training camps and selection rounds for the Twenty-Fifth World Cup of Hockey. The night before the start of training, Ito had played one of the toughest games of his career, a 1-nil battle in Itakawai against the Ba Sing Se Bears for the last game before the World Cup Break. He had seen nearly thirty minutes of play, including several five-minute shifts. The game went into overtime, and it was a goal from Hakoda Ishii in the last minute of overtime which had given the Lightning a much-needed win. His performance at the Training Camp reflected a player who was exhausted and had no time for rest; Skirata himself even asked Ito if he wanted to sit this camp out and come back for the second camp the week after.

Sit out? I am Ito'Issumatak of the Northern Tribe of Gwich'inuk. I would still play my best game after coming back from a three-day-hunt, then after winning the game, make love to my wife, skin a PolarLeopard with my bare teeth, and win a fight with the biggest of PlatypusBears!

"Pak'ika, what are you laughing about out here?"

The voice from behind snapped Ito from his own humour, and quickly turning around he saw it was the man he was waiting for; a man that Ito had spent many years admiring, and now serving under for the National Team.

Kad Skirata was bundled up in his usual heavy coat, beneath which Ito could only guess were the hardened plates of Mandalorian armour that had become such a common occurrence on this team in the last few rounds. Ito himself was not a Mandalorian, but he knew the language, respected the culture, and even participated in a few traditions.

Being Mando is more than just plates and songs, Pakku...

He shook his head to come back to reality before smiling to his head coach. "Oh, just remembering the good times in my 'twilight', sir."

"Ah,"
Skirata sighed as he tightened his coat. "So I take it the headlines got to you then?"

"I would not say the 'got to me', sir, but rather, inspired me."

"With a performance like tonight --- a lone defender poke-checking a puck away from such a possession-obsessed team, then carrying it well into their usually lock-downed zone and scoring with a single motion on their best netminder --- I am sure the headlines in the morning may sing a slightly different tune."

Ito laughed before Skirata motioned for the man to step out. Even though Skirata was from Sundari, an Mando-controlled island group just north of the Southern Circle, he was not as used to the cold as Ito was being from deep within the North. He was still more resilient than, say, Hiteki Kia who had spent the last four years living in the Fire Nation before moving back to the North, or Mori Tatsuhiro who was from Omashu in the southern mountains of the Ko Lan pass; a trait that Ito always admired for one reason or another.

"That was the point sir," Ito smiled, searching for the black SUV that Skirata had rented upon his arrival in Quebec. Once the got to it, a quick beep unlocked the doors and Ito opened the passenger door. Unlike in Gyatso-kai, the people of the Royal Kingdom of Quebec drove on the right, so it was a bit weird for Ito to get in where he usually drove from. The car had a unique scent, one that Ito couldn't help but recognise from his meetings with the Vice President of the World Cup of Hockey Federation in the last week. He had heard the rumours, all over the tabloids and gossip channels, that Skirata and Madame Tie Lianhua were a bit closer than colleagues.

"Alright then. Now, let us go celebrate this victory. Have any places in mind?" Skirata asked as he starte the vehicle.

"Not too sure, sir," Ito spoke, strapping himself in. Skirata's driving 'skills' were a bit renowned by the team --- speeding and sharp turns were about as common as him running redlights --- and he didn't want to risk injury on a trip to a bar.

"Well, I know a good place. They don't exactly serve netra gal or tihaar or even your favourite, Ku'chak, but they do serve a good ale and the waitresses are nice to look at..."

Ito drifted a bit off, thinking back to the games he had played. Even after this great game for Ito, he still could feel a bit more tired than usual. Maybe his age was getting to him...

Maybe I see a sunrise... but I am just laying upside down...

World Cup of Hockey - Jersey Fouls Part II

We're back with another round of jersey fouls -- these all spotted at Game 1 of the Round of Sixteen between Havl and Estope. In case you can't remember, here's our definition of a jersey foul:
jer·sey foul - noun - \ˈjər-zē ˈfau̇(-ə)l\
A sports jerseys that contains errors, is egregiously customized, or is otherwise uniquely offensive

And away we go...

The eBay Wonder (AKA You Get What You Pay For)

Spotted: Havl vs. Estope, Game 1
Look, I understand. Authentic replica jerseys are super expensive, and there are a lot of knockoffs floating around on the Internet for an appetizing price. But for the fan who wants to support their team in style, there are t-shirt jerseys, sweatshirts, and tons of more reasonable merch to stock up on. Those bootleg jerseys on eBay look great in the grainy photo online, but they often have inconsistencies in lettering and spelling. This notable example has a number of problems. "Donndelinger" is misspelled; the jersey font is incorrect; the number is too small; and, worst of all, Donndelinger never wore this particular style (the new WCoH 25 away whites). That's perhaps the worst part; this is the brand-new WCoH design that normally looks so great.

Charge: Misspelled Name (among other issues).
Verdict: Guilty

Pinky Swear

Spotted: Havl vs. Estope, Game 1
There are lots of reasons to wear pink: to support breast cancer awareness; because it brings out your eyes; because you love A Separate Peace. But there's never a good reason to wear a pink jersey unless it's part of the team's color palette. This Havl jersey looks like something out of your kid sister's nightmare. I mean, it actually hurts my eyes to look at it. Yes, it comes from the official Havl Hockey shop online. Yes, a portion of proceeds go to support cancer research. But you'd be better off buying a legit blue/red/white jersey and spending the difference on the charity of your choice.

Charge: Pink for Pink's Sake. Leave the pink jerseys to Cassadaigua.
Verdict: Guilty

No Need to Gloat
Image
Spotted: Havl vs. Estope, Game 1
This fan seems to have a really unique way of spelling "Zaradnik." Clearly, this guy is trying to tell the world something. Look, we're all proud of Havl's hockey pedigree. No other nation has won back-to-back-to-back World Cups. That being said, nobody likes a braggart. No doubt this guys gets high fives from the worst kind of fan at every concession stand in Capital City, but who would want to travel to a game in another country wearing this xenophobic monstrosity? I mean, how embarrassed would you be to bump into a Plutoni fan wearing a "5 Championships" jersey while wearing this thing?

Charge: Trying Too Hard. This kind of gloating makes Havl fans look bad. Cut it out.
Verdict: Guilty

Gregoryisgodistan Sweeps Transalpine Republic

Gregoryisgodistan's glorious Ice Slaves hockey team has swept the squad from Transalpine Republic, two games to none. Gregoryisgodistan won the opener 3-2 in overtime on a game winning goal by Enemy Crusher Ronald Fatgoat two minutes into the period. He celebrated by jumping for joy and doing a mock crushing on a mannequin at center ice, shattering it to pieces. He then screamed "THIS IS WHAT I WOULD DO TO SAINTLAND IF THE WORLD CUP OF HOCKEY FEDERATION WOULD LET ME!" Slave Beater NDNSHYQ19 then burned a flag of the Transalpine Republic and sang the Gregoryisgodistani national anthem in celebration. But it was still only a 1-0 series lead.

The next night, the Ice Slaves had no problem disposing of their inferior opponent, winning 3-1. As the game wound down, word came in from Quebec that Hicana had beaten Nova Anglicana again, meaning the Ice Slaves would face off against yet another rival on the Enemy List in the Quarterfinals. The Hicanan fans were responsible for stabbing to death several Ice Slaves, including starting goaltender Franky "Fatso" McFattel, whose son was recently deported to San Jose Guayabal as a result of yet more crushings. So it was a bloody rivalry. Finally, the whistle blew and Gregoryisgodistan celebrated at center ice. They then proceeded to burn three giant Hicanan flags while singing the national anthem of Gregoryisgodistan. Then came a nice choral rendition of"Let's Blow Up Saintland"as they burned a Sanctii flag and burned King Petrus in effigy. Then the players all joined hands and sang the national anthem again. It was a glorious celebration. Finally they returned to the locker room and drank celebratory prune juice, toasting each other and rejoicing in the victory.

Head coach Horse Beater LAL9120 said "Today is a glorious victory for us. We are through to the quarterfinals as we always knew we would be. Hicana awaits. We are not afraid of them. We will crush them figuratively speaking. We would love to crush them literally speaking but the nincompoops in the World Cup of Hockey Federation won't let us. So there will be no crushing literally. However, if any of our fans who are still here because they booked non-refundable non-changable return airfare for the end of the tournament would like to attack Hicanan fans, I wouldn't mind. I say go for it. Lord Almighty Gregory will appreciate it. I will appreciate it. The only people who won't appreciate it are Hicanans and Hindmash Yoon. But Hindmarsh Yoon is an idiot with an idiotic name. Hindmarsh sounds like you have diarrhea. I mean, you have a marsh coming out of your hind? You must have diarrhea. What a moron. He should be crushed. It is a shame we will be banned for life if our Enemy Crushers crush him. But I wouldn't mind giving him a nice beating, even though he's not a horse. I hope I get the chance. It would be quite glorious to beat the most stupid World Cup of Hockey Federation President ever. We must continue to win and win our second straight title. Then we will win our third. And our fourth. And our fifth. We will never lose the World Cup of Hockey title again. I am the coach and I will ensure this."

Lord Almighty Gregory also praised the victory and Horse Beater LAL9120's speech, saying "The Ice Slaves are a glorious team. I enjoy cheering them to victory. Their performance on the ice during and after these two games was incredibly spectacular. The rousing chorus of 'Let's Blow Up Saintland' was incredibly impressive. It was a truly magnificent vocal performance. And when we burned the Hicanan and Sanctii flags on the ice, that showed just who the true world power is. We will destroy Hicana and Saintland, both on the ice and in the world altogether. Let's Blow Up Saintland isn't just a song, it's a plan. A plan to blow up Saintland. A plan to make the heathens pay. I do think a few nukes would do the trick. Let's Blow Up Saintland! We will do so before Gregmas. Mark my words. Saintland must be destroyed. I am the Lord Your God! Death to Hicana! Death to Saintland! Death to Hindmarsh Yoon!"
