Bid Post

Format
Double round robin, with all matches either held in Mizuyuki or Electrum (Groups to be split between the two nations). There are 8 groups of 6, top two nations advancing to the round of 16. Group A-D in Electrum, scorinated by Mizuyuki and Group E-H in Mizuyuki, scorinated by Electrum.

At the conclusion of the group stage, teams will be reseeded, with 1-8 for group winners, and 9-16 for runners up. It will then be a bracket tournament, with best of three. The final will be a best of five.

Scorination Details
The latest version of xkoranate will be employed. RP bonus, as is usual, will be allocated in direct proportion to quality instead of quantity, although both factors will necessarily be taken into account when grading RPs. The grading formula agreed upon will not be disclosed but due to the nature of the rankings, roleplay is highly generous. Referring to rosters, interacting with other nations and using the available IC information will be favoured. Generally, Mizuyuki and Electrum will look to cut off at 0900 UTC, which is 7PM Melbourne time, or 5PM Malaysia time.

Tiebreaks are, in order, H2H, H2H PD, H2H PF, Overall PD, Overall PF - if the tie cannot be resolved with the above, we will resort to using a coinflip to break the tie.

How to do well in this tournament
Scores are randomly generated by a program called xkoranate, with extra bonuses given to those who roleplay. The first thing you should do is to create a roster (essentially a list of your players, coaching staff, etc.), which will give you a nice starting off bonus. Then, everyday, just post a roleplay! It can be as simple as a match report, to a TV show to an interview or a fully fledged storyline. The possibilities are endless. We understand if you don't have the time to RP, but remember the golden rule, quality is greater than quantity. Every day is a new opportunity to do well. In any case, if you do RP excellently every day, this does not mean you are guaranteed to win, just that there is a higher chance of you winning. There is always a random chance that you won't win, so blame Margaret (we hear she loves rubber chickens) -- the goddess of chance if you have any problems.

Please note that of the top twenty teams, only ten are returning this time round, which means that there’s a high chance of everyone doing well!

General Information
For general information about Electrum, visit this page.
Meanwhile, Centralis has it's own page as well on iiwiki (where teams will play at least once).

The currency is the Synergy, a card based currency which is entirely digitalised. For those seeking to use the normal paper money, Universal Standard Dollars could be used instead, but it is recommended to get these cards which is very easily stolen but also very convenient to use.

Customs and Laws
In general, the laws of Electrum are generally relaxed, with restrictions on the most serious of crimes as well as bans on smoking in certain areas and banning of 'hard' drugs only. Electrum is also an anti-gun nation so all guns will need to be given up at the border -- lest they face criminal imprisonment in Electrum. Nations will be flown over on special AirElectrum planes through to Centralis International Airport.

Kale Island is based in a semi-autonomous territory where locals tend to be mysterious. As a result of the government wanting to hold onto territory but not interfering with the islanders, this territory has their own strange and unique rules unique to that island (you can RP any crazy rules you like).

Accommodation
Accommodation will be provided free of charge in all of the venues, with buses and high security staff following the team every bit of the way. All of the facilities are new and are in close proximity to the venues themselves (often just a short bus ride). The hotel staff will be on call 24 hours a day to cater to whatever your team wants.

Transportation between venues
Teams will be shuttled between venues with AirElectrum planes once again. Meanwhile, to visit Kale Island, nations must fly to Port Grenville where there is an hourly boat to Kale Island. We hear that wild boars run amok on the boat, so watch out, but on the most part teams will fly comfortably on a luxury airplane.

Location Schedule (Electrum)
Teams are guaranteed to play in all cities of Electrum. Group A will start at Centralis A, Group B at Hamilton, Group C at Port Grenville and Group D at Agri.

Each matchday, they will rotate as so:

Centralis A>Hamilton>Kale Island>Port Grenville>Prescott>Agri>Centralis B

So, Group A will be in Hamilton on MD2, B at Kale Island, C at Prescott and D at Centralis B.

Group A: Centralis A, Hamilton, Kale Island, Port Grenville, Prescott, Agri, Centralis B, Centralis A, Hamilton, Kale Island
Group B: Kale Island, Port Grenville, Prescott, Agri, Centralis B, Centralis A, Hamilton, Kale Island, Port Grenville, Prescott
Group C: Prescott, Agri, Centralis B, Centralis A, Hamilton, Kale Island, Port Grenville, Prescott, Agri, Centralis B
Group D: Centralis B, Centralis A, Hamilton, Kale Island, Port Grenville, Prescott, Agri, Centralis B, Centralis A, Hamilton

Stadium Information
LOCATION: Deltan University of Agriculture Basketball Court

The Deltan University of Agriculture is based in Agri, a rainy and wet area in the northern parts of Electrum. It is also on a delta as well and therefore very susceptible to flooding... if that happens in Electrum. The university is ranked last in the basketball collegiate standings of the five universities, but it is definitely the one with the rowdiest supporters. The supporters in Agri often light flares indoors and will attempt to disrupt the match, and the opposing team as much as possible. The university focuses on primary industries and horticulture, both of which are important industries in Electrum.

Basketball Coach: Scott Brown

Image
Capacity: 6,000 spectators

LOCATION: Centralis University Basketball Stadium

The Centralis University Basketball Stadium is the largest stadium in all of Electrum. It houses the Centralis Knights, the top team of the collegiate competition and is headed by legendary coach, Warren Jefferson. It is located in the middle of Electrum and the climate is temperate. This stadium is very large and spacious, but the people there are usually very kind and lovely. They are always willing to have a chat and talk sports. Centralis University is the most prestigious universities in all of Electrum, and offers various courses of study including Science, Law, Arts, etc. Centralis is a very cosmopolitan, multicultural and cultured city and you shouldn't be surprised to bump with students from all around the multiverse.

Basketball Coach: Warren Jefferson

Image
Capacity: 20,000 spectators

LOCATION: National Electrum University Basketball Stadium

The National Electrum University is also located in Centralis, and is therefore very fierce rivals of Centralis University. Sharing the cosmopolitan city that is Centralis, the Grand Hall library, the largest library in all of Electrum is open to all visitors, as well as being the home of the Kaeppel Sculpture, a large Rubik's cube monument in front of the university's basketball court. Although a bit smaller than their neighbouring university's stadium, NEU provides state of the art training facilities to compensate.

Basketball Coach: Vacant

Image
Capacity: 14,000 spectators

LOCATION:Hamilton Institute of Technology, Jane Bryson Memorial Arena

The Hamilton Institute of Technology places fourth in the collegiate competition. This memorial arena was named after Jane Bryson, the first patron of the Hamilton Institute. Since it's founding in the 1920s, it has become the go-to university for STEM subjects. Hamilton is situated to the north of Centralis and is situated on the edge of the desert. Most of the students here are very pretentious as they are usually very smart or their parent's bought a spot for them in the university. Hamilton is a very hot place, with temperatures rising to 35 degrees daily. Be sure to bring sunscreen here as the sun is very harsh. They are focused on technology as Hamilton is the closest city to the desert, where there are a lot of mining operations (for uranium, gold and silver), where the miners are very wealthy. This is why there are lots of pretentious people in a desert city.

Basketball Coach: Jack Allen

Image
Capacity: 12,000 spectators

LOCATION: Margaret Basketball Ritual Arena

Kale Island is one of the last remaining islands in the possession of Electrum. After the exodus of Coconut Island and Cocoa Island, Kale remains under the authority of Electrum. This is the only province or territory where Margaret is the majority religion. As a consequence, rubber chickens are in high demand here, and upsets are known to happen here fairly frequently. Kale Islanders are known for their superstition and belief in Margaret to provide them the best scores for their sporting clubs. Do not attempt to convert them to another religion, or you may find yourself in a boiling cauldron, being prepared as another sacrifice for the mighty Margaret. As a result of their general kookiness, they have been denied provincial status, and are instead given autonomous rule -- so that they stay under the influence of Electrum with not too much meddling. The arena here is traditionally used by elders for their own rituals, but has been converted to a basketball court (much to the chagrin of locals who claim that the court is the traditional hunting ground for ghosts)

Image
Capacity: 3,000 spectators

LOCATION: Prescott School Arena

The Prescott School is the premier commerce and law school in all of Electrum. Their basketball team is third-ranked in the entire country, but people here are known more for their partying and drinking. Prescott is situated to the immediate west of Electrum and is fairly cool, given it's high altitude. Temperatures can go below freezing point at times, so make sure you stay rugged up! Prescott is in the Frontier Mountain Range and is a few dozen kilometers near Electrum's highest point, Mt. Picana where mountaineers are free to explore up the mountain. Bars in Prescott are open 24 hours a day, and you can be sure that there will be a betting shop in every street.

Basketball Coach: Paula Hobson

Image
Capacity: 15,000 spectators

LOCATION: Bayside Basketball Arena@Port Grenville

The Port Grenville Bayside Basketball Arena is the newest in Electrum and was made in preparation for the new domestic basketball tournament. As a result it hasn't been played on yet, but the WHS will see it's first use. Port Grenville is a seaside city to the southwest of Centralis on the Bellar Peninsula. It is slightly more cooler with rains more common here than anywhere else in the country. The citizens here are made up of sailors and fishermen, so do not be surprised to see them swear all the time. Aside from being potty mouths, they love a good swig of alcohol every few hours as well, so you can be sure to find lots of 'drinking holes' (taverns) here.

General Information - the Celestial Empire of Mizuyuki

If you're looking for an exotic nation in which to play a couple of games of basketball, you've come to the right place.

Situated in the region of Aeneas, the Celestial Empire has prided itself at being at the forefront of scientific progress for many a year. However, in recent years its sporting achievements have been nothing to sniff at, either; two successive qualifications in WC66 and 67 tell its own story, while only two last-gasp goals prevented them from making it three in a row at the last World Cup. In absolute terms, however, success has been difficult to come by; the only footballing honours that Mizuyuki have bagged are the now-defunct Market Cup and the regional Aenean Cup. Basketball, however, is not one of the Celestial Empire's strong suits; Mizuyuki have never enjoyed much success of note at a internationally significant basketball tournament, and they will be hoping to rectify this less than pleasing state of affairs in this edition of the IBC.

The Celestial Empire is in effect an amalgamation of twenty prefectures into a single unitary state, known formally as the Celestial Empire of Mizuyuki or the Technocratic Union of Mizuyuki. The Divine Empress of Mizuyuki, Empress Asuka, Shirakawa-no-Kirino, is the de jure ruler of the country, while in practice, a select group of ten individuals - collectively known as the Executive Committee - are the leaders of Mizuyuki.

Unfortunately, due to the inexorable progress of time, there is no historical record available for the foundation of the Celestial Empire. Historians claim that there is not sufficient empirical evidence to trace the links and connections back in time, but according to uncorroborated apocryphal evidence passed down via oral tradition, the lineage of the ruling House of Shirakawa can be traced to the ultimate deity of Kiseki-no-michi; Kirigiri-no-Mikoto-no-oomikami.

Mizuyuki is a country of approximately 72 million people. The population is about as homogenous as a pancake - more than ninety-five percent of the population are Mizuyuki-jin, with a smattering of other minorities floating around the place. It is a technologically advanced, semi-isolationist country that mostly keeps to itself, though it has been known to intervene in international affairs with the intention of preserving the status quo.

Stretching over 225,000 km2 in total land area, Mizuyuki ranks among the smaller nations in Aeneas - however, it ranks among the most densely populated nations in the region, with an average population density of almost 325 people per square kilometre. Mizuyuki has practised a form of government that is similar to an absolute monarchy ever since the promulgation of the Asuka Constitution in 2014. However, it does still retain some semblance of democratic government, with members of both Houses in its unitary bicameral parliamentary system elected by universal suffrage.

For more relevant information, see the Yukipedia page on Mizuyuki.

Law and justice

As a general rule, laws in Mizuyuki are simple and concisely worded. The phrasing of these laws, however, offer no room for compromise - every single law is thoroughly processed by the Imperial Ministry of Justice in order to ensure that violators of the law will find not the slightest bit of wiggle room, let alone loopholes. There is a blanket ban on all form of recreational drugs, while Mizuyuki's laws on environmental protection and conservation are renowned for being some of the strictest in the entire multiverse. Expect to be hit with a community service sentence for a duration lasting for a minimum of 72 hours if you dare to so much as litter on the streets of Mizuyuki. Several crimes, such as murder, drug trafficking, rape and espionage are punishable with a life sentence without possibility of parole. Take note, would-be criminals.

Accommodation and transport

Visiting teams will be housed in luxurious accommodation located relatively close to their designated competition venues and assorted sporting facilities, and will be assigned a dedicated team liaison officer who will be responsible for administration and liaison, as the title itself suggests. Suitable modes of transportation will be provided on a case-by-case basis; factors taken into account when approving formal requests for vehicle requisition will include reason(s) for travel, number of passengers, estimated total cost of journey, and total distance travelled.

National Basketball Team of Electrum
National Team for IBC15

Management Team
Warren Jefferson - Head Coach - Strategy
Jack Allen - Assistant Coach - Offence
Scott Brown - Assistant Coach - Defense
Paula Hobson - Assistant Coach - Counselor

History
The Electrumite basketball team burst onto the scene in the last International Basketball Championships, a debut team that no one ever heard of, and through a mixture of good fortune, good draw and good team, they somehow knocked over the first ranked team in the multiverse to reach the Championship final against Saintland. Alas, it wasn't to be, with the Electrumite team drawing it out to a five game championship, only to stumble at the final block, Game 5 in Cassadaigua.

In the 2nd World Hoops Showcase, Electrum had widespread home support as they dominated and obliterated their opponents left, right and centre. It would make sporting history for Electrum and Mizuyuki, as they hosted their first tournament together. And it was Electrum's success (and victory) of the World Hoops Showcase which inspired authorities of both sides again to bid for this cycles International Basketball Championships. They are expected to do well in this tournament, and are hoping to go one better than last time and win an IBC on their second attempt. Will anyone stop them?

In a show of unity, the five main Universities of Electrum: Deltan University for Agriculture, Centralis University, National Electrum University, Prescott School and Hamilton Institute of Technology have combined some of their best players to make the Electrum team. The management team is also composed of four coaches, an unusually high number, but this is due to the fact that each University has sent their own basketball coach to manage the entire team, with one being vacant after Arthur Carroll left to oversee the development of the Gymnastics and Diving teams in the Olympics.

All five of the universities have supplied their own basketball courts for use. However, as there are seven match days, two more basketball courts will be supplemented in Port Grenville and Kale Island. Temporary and additional seating have been provided in these courts.

Roster

The team's strategy is a no-nonsense approach with sensible defense as well as offence. Additional Information Basketball is the second most popular sport in Araucia; only association football is more popular. The national basketball team of Araucia was founded in 1921 and, since its inception, it has always included at least one player from each one of the three main ethnic groups of the country - Mapuche, French and Spanish; this policy has greatly contributed to basketball's popularity in the nation. The current generation of Araucian basketball players is perhaps the best the thinly populated kingdom has ever had; thanks to their determination and speed, the Condors have earned their place among the world's best basketball teams. Notes

Prince Ioannes is the younger brother of King Petrus XX, the star quarterback for the Saintland National Gridiron Team and current King of Saintland. He is the older brother of Prince Josephus, the goalkeeper for the Saintland National Ice and Field Hockey team that won the silver medal in the VIII Winter Olympics and finished 3rd at the last edition of the World Championship in Field Hockey. He is also the older brother of Prince Josephus's twin Prince Andreas, the captain of the Saintland National Soccer Team that recently upset the #2 ranked team in their opening match of the World Cup finals. Prince Ioannes was the tallest of the sons of King Paulus XV, so he became a basketball player. He is already widely considered the best big man ever to play in Saintland's basketball league and he is the 3-time reigning league MVP. His only weakness is the 3-point shot. Although the Saintland National Basketball Team is often slow to get back on defense, Prince Ioannes is a great defensive player when he is in position. Axius is a good center, except for his poor shooting on foul shots. Sornatius is the newest addition to the team. He received a special accommodation from the University of Saintland, where he is a 3rd (final) year student, to play in this edition of the IBC. Sornatius is primarily a defensive specialist, who will see most of his minutes late in games when the Saintland National Team is trying to hold onto a lead. Basically, the Saintland National Basketball Team plays 1960s style basketball, with the center as the main scorer, but the other players will get shots throughout the course of a game. The arena's capacity is nearly the entire population of St. Petrus and the total population of Saintland is around 600 thousand. This team advanced to the Quarterfinals of IBC 12, where they were eliminated by the apple-tossers from Cassadaigua and finished 4th in IBC 13. In IBC 14, they went undefeated until the Semi-Finals, defeated Cassadaigua 2 out of 3 times in the Semis and were taken the full 5 games in the finals by a surprising Electrum team before they finally won their first IBC. While ranked third in the rankings coming into this IBC, they are the highest ranked nation that is still competing in the IBC and favored to become the first repeat champion since Sarzonia.

Erathi National Basketball Team
Offensive style: Run and Gun
Defensive style: Man to man
Modifier: +3.5
Colors: Blue, White, and Gold
Stadium: Royal Stadium, Mildrid 52,350
RP Permissions: No injuries or deaths or anything like that. Please do not say how many points or assists or boards any of my players have just for my personal record keeping. Feel free to say 'Player X had a great game' but not 'Player X went 22-6-3'

Coach- Aleix Bonaventura (FC Mildrid Kings)
Age: 33 years old

The extremely tactically smart coach of the FC Mildrid Kings, Aleix Bonaventura was the man chosen to take the helm of the first ever Erathi national basketball team. Stemming from his own young age, Aleix is known for preferring a very free flowing offensive game where the players instincts and innate abilities are trusted. Set plays are kept to a minimum as Bonaventura has his players shoot and move as they feel best. However, should the opposing team play with a particular style or have a certain weakness, Aleix Bonaventura will not hesitate to draw up a few plays for the team to put into action.

Point Guards:

23- Blake D'AQUINO (FC Mildrid Kings)
Height: 5'11 – Weight: 161lbs – Wingspan: 6'3 – Max Vertical: 51.5inches – Age: 18

A superb athlete, Blake D'Aquino is the single most exciting Erathi basketball prospect ever. Coming into the Erathore Basketball Association, D'Aquino won ever major individual and team honor available for both school and club team. With a shattering 51.5 max vertical, Blake D'Aquino is known for his posterizing dunks, amazing blocks, and ability to win tip offs despite being substantially smaller than his opposition. Blessed with terrific ball handling and passing abilities, D'Aquino is the undisputed go to guy for the Erathi offense. D'Aquino is deadly from mid-range and from the 3-pt arc and will not hesitate to drive the lane for a close range finish. Defensively, despite his exceptional athleticism, his lack of size does present some challenges when going up against taller point guards or when he switches to guard another position. This being said, he is very good at stealing the ball, nabbing 2.6 per game. However, Blake D'Aquino is too eager to try and block shots and bites very easily on shot fakes. He loves to pull highlight reel moves and always looks to hit the greatest dunks and best no-look passes. He and Sabino Anderson look set to form the core of an extraordinarily strong FC Mildrid Kings team. Overall, an extraordinary player who is only going to get better and easily capable of being the greatest Erathi player of all time when the sad day comes to end his career.

15- Rolando PAVONE (Eliodoro Blue Wave)
Height: 6'3 – Weight: 193lbs – Wingspan: 6'7 – Max Vertical: 25.3inches – Age: 29
A master passer, Rolando Pavone can thread the world's smallest needle with ease. A pass first point guard, it is not uncommon for Pavone to go a dozen games without hitting double digits scoring. It's not that he isn't a poor shooter, indeed he can nail 3s if left open, it's just that Pavone finds more joy in a behind the back pass that leads to a one handed jam more then hitting a basket himself. An average athlete at best, the introduction of Pavone to a game will see the Erathi slow their offense down by a considerable amount as they move from the Blake D'Aquino run and gun style to a more patient approach where shooters are trying to get open and frequent cuts are made to take advantage of Pavone's passing abilities. An average defender, Pavone does a good job playing hands up D but can be broken down easily by faster opponents.

Shooting Guards:

3- Parker CELESTE (Puente la Rein)
Height: 6'6 – Weight: 195lbs – Wingspan: 6'11 – Max Vertical: 30.5 inches – Age: 34

An elite perimeter scorer, Parker Celeste has shot .463 from the 3pt line over his career and the record holder for most career 3pts, with 1967, and most 3pts in a season, with 239. With a high release, Celeste is capable of draining a 3 right in the face of his defender. He is also completely unfazed by a defender coming in late and can still hit that shot. Moving into the mid-range shot, Celeste is still a very capable scorer but does have some trouble shooting off the dribble. Close range, he is one of the most inconsistent players in the Erathi league. Whereas one night he pulls all manner of gorgeous lay ups, reverses, and dunks, the next night the slightest contact is enough to send his shot way off course. Defensively, Celeste is a lockdown defender with his long wingspan making it hard for his man to get off a shot without rushing it or getting blocked. Quick hands leads to being strong against the dribble and a steal or two per game.

15- Greg HARRISON (FC Mildrid Kings)
Height: 6'5 – Weight: 212lbs – Wingspan: 6'11 – Max Vertical: 46.7 inches – Age: 18
Greg Harrison has yet to play a professional game coming into his rookie season in the league but he is already one of the best slashing guards in the Erathi league by consensus. Extremely quick, with fast first and second steps, Harrison looks to do a quick one-two step to blow by his defender and pull into mid or close range, from where he is absolutely lethal. A superb finisher, Greg Harrison is capable of converting difficult lay-ups even after hard collisions with large defenders. If the close range option isn't available, he has a very strong mid-range shot. However, the moment he steps behind the 3pt arc, Harrison's shooting accuracy goes down by a substantial amount. One of the more intriguing aspects of Harrison's game is that he's starting to develop a lost post game which, if developed properly, could lead to making Harrison one of the most versatile scoring players in the Erathi league. Defensively, he makes use of his elite athleticism to lockdown his man and to nab several steals and blocks every game. A solid, solid player, Harrison looks set to become an elite shooting guard coupled with Blake D'Aquino with the FC Mildrid Kings.

Small Forwards:

5- Stanley AÍRO (Espartral Eagles) --CAPTAIN
Height: 6'8 – Weight: 231lbs – Wingspan: 7' – Max Vertical: 43.2inches – Age: 27

The consensus best player in Erathore, Stanley Aíro was part of a massive and very surprising trade between the Mildrid Kings and the Espartral Eagles that gave the Kings the first overall pick in the 2014 draft+$24.5 million and sent Aíro to the Eagles. A pure scorer, Aíro is capable of putting the ball in the basket from anywhere on the court. He can finish through contact at the rim, pull up for a jumper in mid-range, or hit the occasional trey. His above average athleticism allows him to play above the rim and a quick first step means Aíro can change gears quickly to try and get by his man. His has a good, but not great ball handling ability and is capable of picking out the right pass, although his assist to turnover ration of 2.8/1.9 is too high. Aíro can also front up or play with his back to the basket on the low blocks. An offensive juggernaut, Aíro falls very short defensively. He is capable of playing decent on ball defense, but he gets beat by pure speed far too easily and has a very low steal rate. A decent number of blocks and rebounds per game helps to cover up some of his defensive shortcomings but the reality is that his opponents make a high percentage of their shots when guarded by Aíro. However, he makes up for this by simply being unstoppable on the scoresheet as he tends to his 403 consecutive game streak of double digit scoring.

35- Dean STRONG (Eliodoro Blue Wave)
Height: 6'9 – Weight: 248lbs – Wingspan: 6'11 – Max Vertical: 35.0inches – Age: 37
An Erathi legend who will sadly hanging up his jersey at the conclusion of this tournament, Dean Strong is the all-time leader in points scored, with 33,561 over the course of his career. Playing as the 6th man off the bench, Dean Strong can be expected to play at least 20mpg as he introduces instant all-around top level offense and lockdown defense. Although not nearly as accurate and deadly from the floor as he used to be, Strong is still capable of being a threat from every spot on the floor. Strong from past the line, mid-range, and extremely deadly from close range, Dean Strong has added a lethal post-up game to his repertoire, using his surprising speed and strength for such an 'old' player to pull a dream shake and go by the defender. On the other side of the court, Strong's defensive instincts and quick reactions allow him to contest shots extremely well and nab a respectable 1.6 steals per game. His quick hands puts pressure on the offense and he forces plenty of errors. An amazing player who will be on the first page of the history books, Dean Strong is looking to make an impact off the bench and to show why he should start.

Power Forwards:

6- Andrew ABREU (Sajazara Shockwave)
Height: 6'11 – Weight: 283lbs – Wingspan: 7'4 – Max Vertical: 40.1inches – Age: 21

A rarity on the Erathi team, Andrew Abreu is not particularly skilled nor an exceptional athlete or even an above average one. Instead, Abrue brings pure, raw strength to this team. A force to be reckoned with, the incredibly strong Abreu makes his living on the offensive and defensive boards and by contesting shots. Lethal from close range, Abreu can finish through contact and multiple defenders at the rim. The moment he needs to shoot from depth, Abreu's shooting percentage sinks, with Abreu posting one of the lowest field goal percentages in the entire Erathi league. However, the sheer amount of rebounds he pulls in vastly outweighs this. Defensively, he is an absolute monster of a shot blocker. He is poor against a dribbling opponent and against speedier opponents, however his strength makes it hard to post up or get by. He is on this team for one purpose and one alone. To provide elite strength and rebounding to an otherwise physically average team.

26- Chris HOWARD (FC Mildrid Kings)
Height: 6'9 – Weight: 260lbs – Wingspan: 7'1 – Max Vertical: 35.7inches – Age: 29
A powerful, versatile scorer, Chris Howard makes use of his size and length to finish close to the rim and to provide rim protection on defense. Offensively, Howard is deadly from close range and has a solid mid-range shot. What makes him such an intriguing player is his ability to hit threes. This forces the defense to stretch to cover him, opening up the lane for D'Aquino, Parker Celeste, and Stanley Aíro to cut in and wreak havoc. Defensively, Howard makes use of his length, vertical, and extremely fast first and second jumps to provide elite blocking abilities to the Erathi team. A solid player, Chris Howard is a very unique player in that he is a big-man who can bang on the inside but is also a perimeter scoring threat.

Centers:

34- Emem MASAMBA (FC Mildrid Kings)
Height: 7'1 – Weight: 283lbs – Wingspan: 7'8 – Max Vertical: 29.6inches – Age: 23

An extremely long, athletic player, Emem Masamba is a devastating force in the paint. Capable of finishing over defenders with ease, Masamba rarely misses from close range. A developing mid-range game is bound to make Masamba even more of a dangerous offensive presence in a few years. A dream of a post-up player, Masamba makes use of fakes, dream shakes, and hook shots to get around even the best of defenders. He is extremely agile for a player of his size and has been compared to smaller point guards in terms of athletic ability. Defensively, Masamba's size, length, and athletic ability serve to make him a lockdown defender with elite shot blocking abilities. Easily the second best Erathi player behind Stanely Aíro, Emem Masamba is an all-around exceptional player.

21- Jason MAXARÍ (Puente la Rein)
Height: 6'11 – Weight: 256lbs – Wingspan: 7'3 – Max Vertical: 22.5inches – Age: 35
A smaller option then Masamba, Maxarí is a unique playmaking center. A good shooter from up close, Jason Maxarí has exceptional passing abilities and this leads to him putting up similar or higher assist figures than point guards. He has an average mid-range shot but does have a lethal fadeaway over either shoulder. Defensively, his quick hands help him to strip the ball from the opposing center when they go up for a shot. However as a physical figure, Maxarí has a very hard time finishing through contact and bothering opposing players with his side. He's tall and lanky, but not very strong at all.

Adriano Bentley aware of Chiata force.
Adriano Bentley says that he was aware of Chiata's force ahead of the clash on Saturday. Coach Bentley said "We're facing seed 11 in our first ever game. This is going to be very tough. We've never been in the IBC before but I've have been in a similar tournament [as a player] many years ago." The American, 59 year old remembers his first international match. "It's [International Basketball] very tough. It's only for the best. If you're not cream of the crop you ain't going here. Our best player in my opinion is Gaj Moszkowicz. He's tall for a guard but I think he'll be fine. We're getting backlash over imports but that doesn't matter. Some players like Gaj [Moszkowicz] and Arkadijs [Austrins] have been here since the age of 7 and 8. They were kids when they moved here in 2004. They've been here 10 years. I used to play with the father of DaQuan [Heiden], back in the US. We both played NCAA but I got in to the NBA but he didn't. I talked to him on the phone yesterday. He was proud. He never got selected for team USA. Now his son is on Team Bandwagon. As a player I remembered baby DaQuan not DaQuan the superstar. He's the big player for CU Dublin in the Big League over here. It's amazing how we have a schoolboy on our team. Arkadijs has had to take weeks off school for this tournament. He has his Leaving Certificate this year so he will be out of league play a good bit but he will be playing schools basketball anyway. I feel that this team will be very good. With an average age of 24 years 7 months it's a youthful team. We've three teenagers which is showing what potential we have. We can win an IBC within the next 5 to 15 editions. We can do anything. We are not afraid. We are Bandwagon. Bandwagonians are known for bravery and courage."

LLAMALAND NATIONALS - IBC 15 ROSTER

About the Team

The Nationals got off to a great international debut so many years ago at the Trofeo de Paz in Sangti, beating some of the world's finest clubs on their way to the crown. They followed it up with four straight playoff appearances in the IBC and WHS, but never made it past the Round of Sixteen, losing to the likes of Valladares, Chiata, The Royal Barangay, and 95X through the years. Now, with their third IBC dawning and the pressure of a top rank and a new manager to accompany them on the road to Electrum, the team seeks to break through to their first quarterfinals in history, and look to take it all home.

Fast Facts

Nickname: Nationals
Offensive Style: Excels at transition and ball movement, never takes long 2s, middling height
Defensive Style: Man-to-man, flexible defense
Style Modifier: +2.5
Manager: Antonio Burkhardt (56)
Coaches: Sebastian Inriquéz (44), James Corona (56), Adam Sagal (51)
Trainer: Antony Balotelli (61)

Starting Lineup (most likely)
use if no new starting lineup has been RPed since then

PG: NIKO MONTOYA - 23 - #08

Once again, the Miklandian enigma is back. With a quick, agile passing game that BC Talahita chose to build their team around, Niko Montoya often shows the talent that made him one of the best point guards at his debutant IBC 13, with skills across the board in great quantities. Of course, it's when he doesn't - and he slumps for long periods of time - that's the problem, as his defense isn't up to par to guard larger guards.

SG: SALVADORE PEREZ - 33 - #03

The mercurial Montoya's more stable counterpart, Perez often finds himself covering Montoya's weak defense with his own strong play. With a decent shooting stroke, competent rebounding, and oftentimes more assists than Montoya gets, Perez has been a valuable, if now aging, part of the team since its creation.

SF: KRISTEN CAMAYEN - 33 - #09

The team captain's knees have weakened, but the formerly athletic forward responded by upping his shooting game. After going through no less than three knee surgeries, he's managed to recover in time for the tournament. While his old athleticism is gone, he's still competent - but will live or die based on his newfound shooting touch.

PF: JORDAN ALONSO - 25 - #20

A slender pick-and-pop shooter, Alonso first gained international accolades when, at six foot eight, he played multiple games at center in the wake of Rick Jordan's injury. Now, the forward is in the position that he belongs, and with a decent repertoire of feints and steps, he should be relied on to open up space in the paint and score a few points.

C: STEPHEN MYERS - 26 - #18

Myers is a defensive standout, and he'll be counted on to rebound and block. At nearly seven feet, Myers is muscular enough to keep control of the paint against weaker players, but may need help against the stronger that Alonso can't offer. With a spaced-out paint that Alonso can offer, however, Myers has a decent variety of paint moves that should get him a few points.

Bench (most likely)
use if no new bench has been RPed since then

PG: LARS HUDSON - 25 - #01

100% pure scoring touch, Hudson races into the paint for a layup whenever possible and often can twist around to get one. While better paint teams can neuter him, a late substitution against a worse-defending team can often be a tactic that leads to the undoing of a team. Hudson's passing is decent, but far worse than that of Montoya or Perez.

SG: RYAN McAYEAL - 28 - #11

McAyeal is a scorer as well, but not in Hudson's mold. He tends to go for a jump shot and is very good at doing so. However, he is slightly too one-dimensional to be a starter, and while his height may give him a few rebounds, he might not be too strong in the paint.

SF: ANDREW GALLANT - 31 - #05

Gallant is an all-around player, able to score, rebound, pass, and defend. If Camayen didn't have the 3 down, Gallant would likely be captaining there. A natural leader, he can do a little bit of everything, but his forte is still scoring in the paint.

PF: JAMES LeROUX - 26 - #06

A sterling rebounder, LeRoux is a tough interior player in the post. Although he fouls out often, he can bring a new element to a game with stingy defense and works well with Myers and Alonso.

C: ADAM FAIRBANKS - 28 - #19

More lanky than LeRoux, Fairbanks is an expert shot blocker. His rebounding and defense is competent, while he is unusually good on the perimeter.

Injury Reserve

CHRISTOPHER DE LA ROSA - 23 - #25 - PG/SG

MAX TUNGSTEN - 22 - #19 - SG/SF

ALEX KENDALL - 26 - #15 - PF/C

La Furia Azule Is Back:
A look at the 15th International Basketball Championship Erathi National Team

Real Stadium, Eliodoro -- A quick shift in weight. A glance to the left. Feet start to move. To the left. Shoulders dip to the left. Ready to bust into motion. 6’8, 231lbs preparing to throw itself to the left. And yet, the ball is crossed to the right and Stanley Aíro digs into the court and explodes into the pain and makes use of his 43.2inch vertical to pull off a reverse-leaning dunk.

“I feel good. I feel like we have a really solid team and can surprise the world and make something happen the the Championship,” says Stanley Aíro, captain of the first ever Erathi National Basketball Team. He is, of course, referring to the draw of the 15th international Basketball Championships, which took place three nights ago.

Expectations are unreasonably high for the young Erathi team. Despite only having a starting average age of 25, and being lead by a point guard who is straight out of high school and has yet to play a single second in the Erathi Basketball Association, the general consensus is that failure to progress into the knockout rounds would be a disappointing tournament. Of course, despite how (perhaps stupidly) optimistic we are, we realize that this will be a massive challenge.

Lead by young, high flying point guard Blake D’Aquino, the feeling amongst the fans is that the La Furia Azule is more athletic than most other teams. With fatigue and overall fitness not even remotely close to being an area of concern for the Erathi team, it will fall to their ability to execute offensive plays and ideas and their ability to quickly react and adapt to the high level of talent teams such as #3 Saintland and #27 The Fair Republic.

The level of hype surrounding this blue-clad group of basketball knights is sky high, perhaps reaching the level public excitement about the Alexio Del Nieran-lead Erathi football team in the 59th World Cup when we were surprisingly knocked out in the Round of 16. This basketball team, regardless of where they ultimately end up at the conclusion of this tournament, will be extremely exciting and entertaining to watch. With an average vertical jump of 34.8inches, including rookie D’Aquino’s ridiculous 51.5inch vertical, the high-flying Erathi team will be a true joy to watch on the fast break. Did someone say highlight reel dunk after gravity defying dunk?

Of course, there is a slight problem. Despite being quite strong, there remains one area of concern. Questions have arisen of the potential defensive problem at point guard due to the lack of size. Despite his absolutely freakish athleticism, the fact remains that Blake D’Aquino is only 5’11. He was an outstanding defender at the high school level, but there is a massive gulf in class between playing (and excelling at) high school basketball and going toe to toe against almost assuredly equal and quite possibly more talented players. Despite his world class offensive repertoire, D’Aquino’s height and ability to play defense on bigger and stronger points guards are the only things that lie suspect in his game and the only real potential problem with the Erathi team as a whole. Height will always “plague” him, but if he can prove this tournament that his athleticism makes him capable of playing even mediocre defense, Blake D’Aquino will take a huge stride towards eliminating any doubts as to his ability and potential, and will solidify his position as one of the best point guards in the league despite only being a rookie.

Overall, hopes are high. We feel like we can do it. We believe in our team, their athleticism, their highly creative and devastating offensive play style, and our genius of a coach. If a few things go our way, there remains a strong belief that the Erathi team could go surprisingly far in this tournament.
