Cosumar (COS) final site bids
Champions' Cup 65: The Amphitheatre, Cassandra (61,103)
The Venue: A fitting name for the finest grounds in this theatrical city. Home to Cassandra City, one of the biggest clubs in Cosumar. A couple years ago, The Amphitheatre was expanded from its capacity of 54,000 to over 60,000 in preparation for the 62nd Baptism of Fire 62 and future UICA bids (the first being this one). It is equipped with pitch-heaters and a retractable roof to cope with potential inclement weather since Cassandra gets cold in the winter. It is also famous for its extremely bright headlights that illuminate the pitch more than most stadiums during night matches...visiting players often complain about the brightness. Don't get stage fright!

The Area: Cassandra is Cosumar's glitzville. This city revolves around showbiz and celebrity. People flock to Cassandra City for the famous plays and musicals on Staropoli Street, the film studios, and the celebrity-sighting. Oh yeah, and did we mention the ten-story Cassandra Megacasino? Gambling is outlawed everywhere in Cosumar except on its premises. There are also extravagant attractions of even less reputable nature, such as the largest luxury brothel in Cosumar, and the most strip clubs per capita in the northeastern region. An "anything goes" pilgrimage to Cassandra is a rite of passage for young adults across the region. Located in the barren northern steppe between the Pristine Forest and the mountainous northern peninsula, Cassandra has little to speak of in terms of landscape. But it grew into an important city due to its location on the bank of the Pristine River, which connected eastern Cosumar to the west in the early days of continental expansion. Still today the city serves as a gatekeeper between the two sides of the Fiefdom.

Series B Champion's Cup (SBCC): Arthur C. Clarke Stadium (cap. 50,000), New Llama City

Home to Llamanean juggernauts New Llama Stars and referred to locals as the "C" for its name and the shape of the streets surrounding it, Arthur C. Clarke is situated in the heart of the nation's capital, where visitors can easily find various accommodations and facilities. The stadium itself, one of many designed for Super-Llamaland's centennial in 2012 and named after Llamanean Revolution heroes, features a signature network of bridges that stretch across the length of the stadium. Previous host to a number of matches in the sixty-seventh Cup of Harmony, including a number of group stage matches and one of the semifinals.

The Euran Football Association’s Euraleague
Recap on Season 30

Needless to say, the events in Eura that transpired during their World Cup 75 exit completely overshadowed any footballing activity to follow. Eura performed poorly in the Copa Rushmori following their shock exit, clearly distracted by events, and may take some time to fully recover. Season 30, happening in tandem with the war and with the top players having to balance domestic football with World Cup 76 qualifying, was naturally a dark one. Transfer activity beforehand was limited, and Eura performed miserably in the post season UICA competitions. Only Directus demonstrated anything like their normal quality in the non-UICA competitions. They lost the Cygnus Cup final and the Copa de Campones after having won the Gold League at a canter once again, completing a domestic double in the National Cup.

Spartangrad and Ulsa kept touch for most of the season but ran out of steam towards the end, with Bastion rounding off the top four. Brigham showed signs of some sort of resurgence by getting into fifth despite Huele clearly unhappy, while Revolutionaries continued their slump in sixth. Falourr had a wonderful season, finishing seventh, while Holdenberg, Lajuno and Farrenton Athletic were once again wondering what could have been. Unioneers and Blackfields excelled in mid table and Oakstone were the biggest overachievers, finishing thirteenth despite the struggles war has brought upon their city. Hornchurch and Dartmoor were not good enough to stay up, while Usmer totally collapsed.

Their title win was thanks mainly to the superb efforts of Pedrinho, who won Player of the Season with 24 goals, finally justifying his leviathan fee. Another Valladar, Adrian Bassa, took the Young Player award at Bastion. Frank Ainsworth won the defensive award, and Nepharim superstar Adnan Szalai won the midfield award. The only big Euran winner was Blackfields goalkeeper Robert Griffin, who earned Goalkeeper of the Season award for his part in the mid-table clubs magnificent defensive record. Other notable performances included the remarkable breakthrough of 21 year old fullback Scott Coles and the continued brilliance of new World Cup winner Allejo at the same club. Dion Underwood was sensational up front for Bastion and made a serious argument to replace Lofty Jones as Eura’s number two striker, while Josh Holmes, William Stone and Dean Sharp continued to demonstrate their own credentials. Lazar Eleonora also started to show his big promise at Holdenberg, which has been a long time coming.

Key transfers, retirements and a Gold League preview ahead of Season 31

Notable Transfers

Allejo (28, AM/CF, Unified Sunrise Islands) – Blackfields to Falourr for £18m

It is notable that in this era of cost cutting, this is the only really major transfer for this season. Falourr have stated their ambition to make sure that their 7th place finish isn’t a one off result. They did so by paying big money for Allejo in the currently moribund international market – Sunrisians are trendy after the 75th World Cup – beating several very big clubs to the punch. Allejo is at the peak of his powers right now and has been sensational for Blackfields, driving every move forward they make with his ambitious and creative presence. Impeccable timing and accurate finishing have made him a deadly attacking midfielder and deep lying striker. Could he be the answer to Falourr’s wishes in a more frontline role? The east coast club have evened up the books a bit by selling Edward Whitehouse and loaning out Morgan Fox again, while bringing in Thomas Norton as a potential replacement for 36 year old Tony Grant.

Lucas Valdez (33, AM/ST, Valladares) – Directus to Centralis Heart (Electrum) for £7m

Some have questioned the need for Directus to pile up a such a large squad of players as their previously dominant starters age, and they seem to have recognised that issue in the context of the worsened national economic climate. They might have strength in depth in all positions but up front its overdone, with four top forwards competing to start, and one of them has been loaned out last season and before. Valdez is the man to go after years of good service for Directus, having patiently awaited his first titles as the rest of the team did. He leaves for a payday in Electrum as a respected figure among the Reds.

Osvaldo Roman (25, CM, Sameba) – Usmer to Olympique Charmat (Felix) for £6m
Joshua Giannini (30, RB, Sameba) – Brigham to Winnipeg United (Royal Kingdom of Quebec) for £5m
Michael Sarado (34, ST, Sameba) – Usmer to Blackfields for £2.9m
Roman Mayalla (33, CM, Sameba) – Holdenberg to Blackfields for free

The great Sameban exodus continues. Aside from the continued retirements, there have been several transfers. Osvaldo Roman is well known to be one of the few prominent remaining Sameban nationalist footballers in Eura. He has seen the opportunity to get out after receiving torrid abuse on his way to an embarrassing relegation with Usmer, taking an arguably big step down to the newly reinvigorated league in Felix. Joshua Giannini has made a similar move away from Brigham and for similar reasons, leaving for Quebec. However there have been some sideways moves for Sameban’s that you might not expect, mainly from older but more well-known Sameban names. It was thought that Michael Sarado, a reluctant “boycotter” of the national team, might leave Eura and return to the international fold. Instead he has opted to continue his late career journeyman experience by filling the hole left by Allejo at Blackfields. He is joined by another boycotter, Roman Mayalla.

Bram Couch (21, GK, Unified Sunrise Islands) - Randoil Putaruca (Bangeula) to Revolutionaries on for free
Kurt Strong (20, CB, Euran Oceania Territories) – Fligsive Barracks (Euran Oceania Territories) to Revolutionaries for £800k

Revolutionaries continue their inconsistent transfer policy. They spend many millions on young stars like Sebastian Nunez and even older options like Michael Sarado but have also brought in almost anonymous signings on the cheap such as Earl van den Brink. Now Kurt Strong joins that cadre, though the young EOT international did actually impress quite a lot in the most recent AOCAF. But the last minute free transfer signing of Bram Couch, who won the World Cup with the surprise champions USI as a starter, who will now come in to replace Ben Prince in the long term. This is a big coup for Revolutionaries who are believed to have snatched Couch away from several other big international clubs. They will hope this new young generation of players can propel them to the top.

Simo Enriksen (25, AM, Eura/Semarland) – Krsthaven (Semarland) to Farrenton Athletic for £4.6m
Luke Bowick (26, GK, Eura) - Molsbik Arkjet (Semarland) to Farrenton Athletic for £3.8m

There seems to be a Semar theme running through the head of Farrenton boss Eddie Crabbe at the moment. Not only did he state an admiration for their style of football, he also has signed a Euran-Semar joint citizen in Simo Enriksen, a decent enough attacking midfielder from Krsthaven, and expat Euran goalkeeper Luke Bowick.

Harry Gravesen (20, CM, Eura) – Usmer to Spartangrad for £4.1m

Spartangrad have invested in one of the several products of yet another Usmer collapse to survive career destruction. Gravesen is seen by many as a potential international midfielder, which is likely why Spartangrad have signed Gravesen. Rumours are persisting that they tried to make the swoop for John Talbot too, but may have to wait until the next window to complete their future central midfield pairing.

Joe Caffin (34, RB, Eura) – Revolutionaries to Unioneers for £3.5m
Rob Bell (35, CM, Eura) – Ulsa to Oakstone for free

Two veteran Euran international squad players take a step down. Caffin arguably overachieved having only ever briefly been seen as the next big thing, but Rob Bell certainly had a much more important international career and is now seeing it off by returning home to his old club, hoping to resurrect their wartime fortunes.

Harrison Burns (20, RM, Eura) – Hornchurch to Bastion for £2.4m

Burns demonstrated his potential at Hornchurch last season and has been rewarded with a contract at Bastion, where he can be mentored by Peter Morrison.

Justice Porsan-Thauvin (18, AM, Royal Kingdom of Quebec) – Montreal Koreana (Royal Kingdom of Quebec) to Arrowsmith on a season long loan
Morgan Fox (19, CF, Eura) – Falourr to Gosting on a season long loan

Notable Retirements

*** = Stats not totally up to date

Gareth Blackthorn (36, CDM/CM, Eura, Revolutionaries)
Gavin Madison (36, CB, Eura, Ulsa)
Derek Millson (34, CB, Eura, Directus)
Carl Brommis (39, GK, Eura, Holdenberg City)

Several significant former Euran internationals have retired this season. Brommis, Millson and Madison are all top players who won awards and titles at their respective clubs (albeit Brommis did so before leaving Directus). All deserve immense respect, though Madison might be disappointed he never dominated the centreback position like he promised to do as a youngster, while Millson arguably overachieved. But Gareth Blackthorn is a cut above the lot – a true Euran footballing legend, built in the mould of Persa Ryans, who departs Euran football on the back of a sensational career where he won two World Cups and numerous club titles with Revolutionaries. He burst onto the international scene during the 65th World Cup with unmatched passing accuracy and midfield control, playing a decisive role in Kelly Sporadic’s famous 3-2 victory over Audioslavia.

After that he came into his own at the same time as career partner John Spartan, with both of them playing decisive roles in Eura’s legendary 66th World Cup triumph. For over a decade, Blackthorn became a dominant figure in the team, taking over the role of Tom Riley and then holding his own against the rising talent of Sterling Rose for a long time (though now Rose is in a long awaited ascendancy). He won a second World Cup not so long ago, before deciding to retire to focus on his coaching badges. Blackthorn remains the midfielder with the best recorded Average Pass Completion in Euran domestic footballing history.

Keith Rowland (39, ST, Nephara, Workers Union)
Michael Tello (38, ST, Valladares, Holdenberg City)

The retirement of a great such as Blackthorn should not blunt the impact of two other greats, from abroad, hanging up their boots. Both Keith Rowland and Michael Tello have carried on well past their peak into their late 30’s, despite the former especially vanishing from international contention, out of a sheer love for the game. Both men contributed key goals (albeit in smaller numbers) right to the end. Rowland ended up going from a relatively decent Euraleague striker to becoming one of its best goalscorers for a period when he won Forward of the Season in Season 21, though he was prevented from becoming a true icon by injuries and playing for teams with a poor goalscoring record. His impact was more profound on the international scene where he helped establish Nephara as a significant footballing power. Michael Tello played his own part in the long overdue rise of Valladares at the top level of the international game, but in Euraleague he has excelled for years, especially in Season’s 19 and 20 where he won the Golden Boot and Forward of the Season twice with Ulsa and International Player of the Season for Season 20.

Toby Hayes (36, LW, Eura, Bastion)

Although his Eura career was brief and unsatisfying, Hayes has been an excellent servant for Bastion and the clubs that came before, a true professional with an excellent record.

Team Previews

AFC MAYVILLE
Manager: Joe Cross (39, Eura)
Stadium: Langham Stadium (Mayville, 44,000)
Key players: Jon Haines (19/RB/EUR), David Smith (34/CB/SIC), Greg Amber (28/CM/EUR), Jonathan Bryan (30/AM/EUR), Prisco Milanesi (34/AM/SAM), Chris Brayfield (31/ST/EUR)

The surprise promotion of AFC Mayville last season rightly earned plenty of plaudits for Joe Cross, who brought them back into the Gold League much earlier than expected and with a weak squad. They have some consistent Goldleague performers in Brayfield, Bryan and Smith, as well as a hot young talent in Haines. But they have only a few ageing names of note and the rest of their squad is Silver League chaff. Very likely to suffer the drop once again as the yo-yo movement continues.

ARROWSMITH
Manager: Liam Carling (43, Eura)
Stadium: Fishery Hill (Arrowsmith, 35,200)
Lineup: [4-2-2-2] Goro Tanaka (20/GK/USI), Timwise Gerduns (19/RB/EOT), Andrew McCloud (20/CB/USI), Nicky Royle (26/CB/EUR), Jesus Moreno (19/LB/EOT, USI), Samuel Freeman (23/CM/EOT), Lufus Aurora (22/CM/MBT), Fabinho (20/AM/USI), Justice Porsan-Thauvin (18/AM/RKQ), Ulysses Zimmer (20/ST/EOT), Scott Hardy (21/ST/APX)

The club that produced Craig Sinclair (but that are more well known for several embarrassing relegations) are back, and are completely transformed. Arrowsmith pose easily the most fascinating story in the Gold League this season after the war-induced transfer stalemate of the last couple of seasons. Arrowsmith were bought up several seasons ago by wealthy Apoxian owners, who then took the shock decision to buy out the franchise of Project 90+ Apox. The best players were transplanted over to the Arrowsmith team or sold off – one of those players, Joachim Elden, was sold for £5.5m to Directus last season. Now they are in the Gold League with a young squad centred around these players.

Six or seven of them are Sunrisian, with a handful of Apoxians being retained in the end – all of them have converted to Euran Oceania Territories. Only club captain and defensive rock Nicky Royle remains. Of their young squad the top players are arguably midfielders Samuel Freeman and Divan Miocic, talented attacking midfielder Fabhino, and all three of their young strikes Zimmer, Dieguinho and Hardy. Adding to their ability to stay up, which they should do, is the big prospect loanee signing from Quebec, Justice Porsan-Thauvin. To top it all off they are managed by a former player and consistent Gold League goal threat (as well as inconsistent Eura international), Liam Carling, who has won plaudits for his stylish football.

BASTION
Manager: John Greaves (54, Eura)
Stadium: Bastion Arena (Bastion, 110,000)
Lineup: [4-2-2-2] Jeffrey Douglas (27/GK/EUR), Jason Russell (23/RWB/EUR), Kieran Ritter (28/CB/NPH), Gaizka Omaexevarria (32/CB/AUD), Pierce Williams (27/LB/EUR), Willem Ajax (24/CM/EOT), Adrian Bassa (21/CAM/VAL), Peter Morrison (29/RM/EUR), Jeremy Benedict (23/LW/EUR), Dion Underwood (23/ST/EUR), Lofty Jones (25/CF/EUR) [Subs] Rhys West (31/LB/MRT), Harrison Burns (20/RM/EUR), Will Andrews (32/CDM/EUR)

It’s hard to believe that it has now been fifteen years since the John Greaves project started at Bastion. It has been a long dry run for what was Eura’s biggest club, and although he has achieved a lot, the fans and board are now starting to wonder when reform will become success. Bastion have won National Cup’s and pulled off other achievements, yet a Gold League title continues to elude them. With the other big sides restrained by spending restrictions in wartime, Bastion’s settled squad and stamina could give them a chance to finally win the big prize. The addition of only youngster Harrison Burn’s will disappoint fans but Bastion surely now have no excuses in terms of squad quality. Dion Underwood and Lofty Jones are the most formidable striking partnership in Euraleague, Adrian Bassa is a phenomenal young midfielder backed by an all-around decent midfield, and Bastion’s backline is strong apart from the weak point of Daniel Stokes when Omaexevarria isn’t fit. They must challenge for the title or Greaves may finally be out of time.

BLACKFIELDS
Manager: Darren Taylor (45, Eura)
Stadium: Coppercot Stadium (Bastion, 33,800)
Lineup: [4-3-2-1] Robert Griffin (23/GK/EUR), Scott Coles (22/RB/EUR), Henry Gardiner (27/CB/EUR), Archie Gregory (27/CB/EUR), Thiago Fuchs (34/LWB/USI), Pablo Krant (26/CDM/SAM), Lewis Bray (31/CM/EUR), Roman Mayalla (33/CM/SAM), Patrick Barnett (25/RM/EUR), Tom Robson (28/LM/EUR), Michael Sarado (34/ST/SAM) [Subs] Samuel Salquist (35/CB/VER, EOT), Michael Simpson (34/ST/EUR)

Darren Taylor’s stock has risen greatly due to the way he has kept Blackfields, a relatively small club, so competitive in Gold League. Last season their defensive organisation with a backline made up of veterans, supposedly Silver League quality players and a youngster called Scott Coles was inexplicably sensational, giving them one of the best backlines in the league. Coles won most of the plaudits but Robert Griffin was also star of the show, winning Goalkeeper of the Season and earning a Eura callup. The defensive midfield anchor of Pablo Krant remains which means defence should not be a worry for Blackfields this season, and they still have midfield creativity provided by Patrick Barnett and the skilful Tom Robson. However the big money sale of Allejo for £18m to Falourr, the player who propelled them from behind the striker last season, has left a sizeable gap. They’ve brought in veteran striker Michael Sarado to try and fill that, but it remains to be seen how effective this cheaper replacement can be.

BRIGHAM
Manager: Zachary Faulkner (60, Eura)
Stadium: Old Ham Lane (Brigham, 76,409)
Lineup: [4-2-2-2] Haylos Anaximander (30/GK/APX), Jake Mayer (33/RCB/EUR), David Pope (33/CB/EUR), Anaximander Scrivener (27/CB/BRE), Jaromir Sambo (27/LB/PAS), Dan Ainsley (24/EUR/CM), Derek Gough (29/EUR/CM), Huele (30/AM/SAM), Oscar Coltrane (23/AM/EUR), Dominik Mauer (30/ST/PAS) [Subs] Declan Hurst (18/RB/EUR), Wolcjeck Gruber (36/CM/AUS), Jermaine Cole-Sinclair (22/ST/SEM)

In his second season in charge, the manager has a lot to prove. Brigham have been on the slide in recent times and last season’s decent enough 5th place finish won’t hide that. It’s certainly been a mammoth shift in expectations – not long ago mid-table was ideal for Brigham before their shock title win. A lack of serious investment means they won’t be challenging for the title this season, an absurd situation considering that they have talented players like Anaximander, Scrivenever and Ainsley backing up the incredibly deadly trio of Huele, Oscar Coltrane and Mauer. Coltrane is expected to dazzle again but Huele’s career seems to be in a serious danger zone as he continues to try and play for Sameba in the current climate, permitted only to do so as a matter of honour by the Euran government. Mauer meanwhile is ageing well and remains potent. The question is, what can Brigham do to remain competitive at the top level if they lose any of those three players?

DIRECTUS
Manager: Tom Benedict (60, Eura)
Stadium: Castle Road (Directus, 95,000)
Lineup: Kevin Belgrave (19/GK/EUR), Ethan Cook (23/RB/EUR), Alan Moore (22/CB/ETM), Craig Gilbert (35/CB/EUR), Andrew Watson (34/LWB/EUR), Gavin Mitchell (26/CM/OSR), Charles Hunter (32/CM/EUR), Maas Fox (31/AM/FFD), Dominic Miller (22/LW/EUR), Pedrinho (30/ST/VAL), Felipe Ebenezer (29/ST/USI) [Subs] Takacs Endre (35/GK/PAS), Fabio Quella (34/RWB/SAM), Joachim Elden (21/CB/MBT), Sol Myren (22/LWB/SJG), Dean Sharp (22/ST/EUR)

Tom Benedict can celebrate his 60th birthday safe in the knowledge that his long reign has finally turned him into a Directus legend, with yet another excellent title win secured, albeit in horrible circumstances. However, there are signs of transition that provide both hope and worry for Directus supporters. The hope is that their canny investment in a deep squad full of youth prospects will suit them well for the future. The worry though is that the core of their successful team is near retirement or past its peak. Craig Gilbert and Andrew Watson are now slowly edging out of the team even though it seemed like it would never happen, with Sol Myren and Joachim Elden eager to prove their doubters wrong in the first team, while Alan Moore of Electrum and Euran fullback Ethan Cook have stolen the show. Charles Hunter is already 32, and even the mighty Maas Fox is starting to show the effects of age. Only Pedrinho, at 30, remains in absolute peak condition. This places a lot of pressure on the incoming generation, and Directus will likely have to spend some serious money in the next year or two. But for now this is a formidable team and it’s improbable that they won’t compete for the title this season.

FALOURR
Manager: Thomas Mann (55, Eura)
Stadium: Sandstone Ground (Falour, 76,000)
Lineup: [4-2-3-1] Tony Grant (36/GK/EUR), Buck Manning (33/RB/EUR), Ryan Theuer (24/CB/NPH), Stephen Paul (23/CB/SCH), Anthony Cotra (31/LB/EUR), Philipe-Michel Schneiderlin (24/CM/RKQ), Anthony Ho (24/CM/ETM), Stephen Stills (20/RM/USI), Gael Tobin (24/CAM/EUR), Adam Reed (29/LM/EUR), Allejo (28/CF/USI) [Subs] Thomas Norton (28/GK/EUR), Dirk Freitag (17/RB/PAS), Levi Andetel (34/CB/NPH), Reece Kent (33/RW/EUR), Sean Hayward (32/ST/EUR)

One of the upper table teams always looking to break through, Falourr suddenly fancy their chances to have a run after spending most seasons unable to outpace one of Lajuno or Holdenberg. Their backline is of questionable strength but has some talent, but Falourr will have confidence in their very strong midfield. Schneiderlin and Tobin are the stars but Ho, Stills and Reed are all in form and fit well into this team unit. Then there is Allejo, the big money forward Falourr have been waiting for to propel them up the table. They also have a decent set of players on the bench, including stalwarts Reece Kent and Sean Hayward. Champions Cup qualification would be a shock but is far from impossible.

FARRENTON ATHLETIC
Manager: Lawrence Mechado (50, Daera)
Stadium: Pignot Stadium (Farrenton, 70,000)
Lineup: [4-2-2-2] Luke Bowick (37/GK/EUR), Olman Reedwater (32/RB/ROT), Samuel Wilkinson (28/CB/EUR), Evan Smith (24/CB/EUR), Ian Williams (28/LB/EUR), Billy Lancet (31/CDM/EUR), Sebastian Field (20/CM/EUR), Scott Barnes (31/RW/HEL), Simo Enriksen (25/AM/SEM), Patrick Barber (30/CF/EUR), Freddie Ward (30/CF/EUR) [Subs] Mason Blake (37/GK/EUR), Gunther Kavanagh (30/CDM/EUR), Eugene Sabattini (33/LW/SAM), Kraig Sturrlein (18/AM/RIT)

“Mechado’s Men” have struggled to really make their mark on Euraleague in recent years, a trend typified by another mediocre mid table finish last season. Their squad is, on paper, decent enough; but it clearly lacks the all-around first eleven quality that Holdenberg and Falourr have assembled. Players like Barber, Ward, Ian Williams – these are all decidedly mediocre. However the new signing of Luke Bowick could give them a very solid goalkeeper to replace Blake for a decade, and the talent of young Sebastian Field in the centre is undeniable. They have been relying on Scott Barnes for creativity for years now, and will be hoping Field can combine with Simo Enriksen to give them a new kind of outlet. Mid-table to be expected again nevertheless.

GOSTING
Manager: Chris Waller (40, Eura)
Stadium: Walvo Brewers Community Stadium (Gosting, 31,309)
Key Players: [4-4-2] Nathan Begum (25/CB/EUR), Logan Rowe (27/LB/EUR), Lucas Mills (24/CDM/ITO), Bradley Briggs (30/CM/EUR), Connor Flynn (26/AM/EUR), Morgan Fox (19/CF/EUR)

Gosting’s surprise promotion was one of the joys last season, and no doubt largely enabled by loanee striker Morgan Fox, who returns to the team this year from Falourr. They have also benefited from the superb management of former Euran international and World Cup winning goalkeeper Chris Waller, who has experienced an extraordinary rise to managing prominence early in his coaching career. However this team is perilously short of talent bar Fox, who is only a loanee. Only club captain Bradley Briggs and the very orthodox attacking midfielder Connor Flynn seem to be of Gold League quality, which Is why it was such a surprise Gosting made it up. It’s even more surprising that they have spent no money, making relegation almost guaranteed.

HOLDENBERG
Manager: Ryan Collins (43, Eura)
Stadium: Benedict Lane (Holdenberg, 74,869)
Lineup: [4-2-3-1] Dimitar Brandt-Caledon (30/GK/PIS), Jonathan Andreyso (28/RB/EUR), Dylan Kirby (30/CB/EUR), Ethan Lees (25/CB/DAE), Harvey Conway (26/LB/EUR), Asier Huelva (28/CM/AUD), Lee Myers (35/CDM/EUR), Lazar Eleonora (21/RW/FFD), Matias Delafuente (33/AM/FFD), Mauricio Sigler (27/LM/COS), Roger Piper (29/CF/EUR) [Subs] Charlie Harris (34/CB/EUR), Frank Bevan (17/CM/EUR), Maurice Arcuri (31/AM/SAM)

They might be led by famously potent goalscoring defender Ryan Collins, a fan favourite in Euran football and a Honeybadgers legend, but Holdenberg seemed to have stalled a bit. They have the best of the non-Big Five plus Brigham squads and the biggest budget. Yet they found themselves in 8th last season, and struggling to look good enough to finish any higher. It doesn’t help that Matias Delafuente, Charlie Harris and Lee Myers are clearly past their best, and even Dylan Kirby is maturing much more rapidly than you might have imagined at 30. Yet the club might be feeling a bit more confident looking forward. They have a huge teenage prospect in 17 year old Frank Bevan and Lazar Eleonora’s long awaited breakthrough last season is expected to go even further this time around. The strength of their core star eleven, with top performers such as Sigler, Conway, Brandt-Caledon and Piper in its ranks, gives them the platform needed to challenge for UICA football again.

HOLDENBERG CITY
Manager: Randolph Moore (72, Eura)
Stadium: Hafran Lane (Holdenberg, 63,590)
Lineup: [4-2-1-1-2] Jake Hyde (32/GK/ITO), Gordon Enderman (23/RB/EUR), Billy Green (26/CB/DAE), Daniel Bottle (25/CB/EUR), Alfie Birch (34/LB/EUR), Gethin Everett (33/CM/NPH), Joseph O’Haine (26/CM/EUR), Peter Chadwick (22/CAM/EOT), Harley Rhodes (33/AM/EUR), Oliver Storey (27/CF/EUR), Henry Cross (27/ST/EUR) [Subs] Jonathan Bishop (33/LWB/EUR), James Lord (17/LB/EUR)

The impending retirement of Randolph Moore poses a lot of questions for Holdenberg City regarding their philosophy. This will almost certainly be the old man’s last season in charge, after many years of very attacking football and putting together of odd-fitting but functional squads (their current possession of three left backs, two in their mid-30’s, is exactly what we expect from Moore). They benefit from having relatively young players and some talent coming through in all defensive positions, and the goals of Henry Cross supported by Oliver Storey should see them through this season. City also have Peter Chadwick in midfield, a phenomenal set piece taker and potentially top player in the making. However their midfield lacks depth and is otherwise aged poorly and of lower quality. Whoever comes in next will have serious investment decisions to make or they may end up a relegation candidate sooner rather than later.

LAJUNO
Manager: Graham Taddle (63, Eura)
Stadium: Lansbury Road (Lajuno, 62,000)
Lineup: [4-2-3-1] Tyler Coleman (32/GK/EUR), Luis Ricardo (27/RB/USI), Rostyn Bradden (26/CB/BRE), Raymond del Ray (27/CB/OSR), Tyson Palma (24/LB/AUD), Alex Wyatt (23/CM/EUR), Martin Berra (26/CM/SAM), Ryan Robinson (27/RW/EUR), Rook Branagh (28/CAM/NPH), Santo Zito (24/LW/SAM), Zach Flynn (26/CF/EUR) [Subs] Aaron Brandley (35/RCB/EUR), Glenn Anderson (38/CM/EUR)

Lansbury Road has seen plenty of players come and go but Lajuno seem to have an unusually settled team right now, which might help them get out of mid table stalemate. This is a set of players driven too by various international opportunities with Bradden, Wyatt, Berra, Robinson, Branagh and Flynn all looking to break into their respective national teams. They have an outside chance of UICA qualification at least.

OLD BOYS CLUB
Manager: Alan Hardie (Eura, 65)
Stadium: Boys Field (Directus, 26,847)
Key Player: [4-4-2] Oliver Murray (23/CB/EUR), Jerome Baspen (25/CB/EUR), Chris Gibbs (35/RM/EUR), David Johnstone (35/CM/DAE), Jacob Kirk (35/CAM/DAE), Pierrhe Rossi (35/LW/FFD), Edward Whitehouse (32/ST/EUR)

Although the signing of Edward Whitehouse will give them some much needed firepower, it seems unlikely that Old Boys Club will stay up after narrowly escaping the drop last season. Their squad essentially hasn’t improved and is dominating by ageing or mediocre players. It would be a big surprise if they stay up this season.

OAKSTONE
Manager: Bob Partridge (Eura, 41)
Stadium: The Oak House (Oakstone, 82,402) – Currently playing in a stadium sharing arrangement with Ulsa at Troutbridge (Ulsa, 97,460)
Lineup: [3-3-2-2] Gary Shudland (34/GK/EUR), Thomas Antberk (24/CB/USI), Henry Gibson (33/CB/EUR), Ben Hall (19/LB/EUR), Hugh Ilyess (22/CDM/EFL), Rob Bell (35/CM/EUR), David Sanders (32/CM/EUR), Tono Morson (35/RW/FFD), Brian Bond (17/LW/EUR), Leigh Oswald (26/ST/EOT), Scott Bloomfield (26/CF/EUR)

Given the terrible toll the current conflict has had on the northern city of Oakstone and its football stadium, it was a huge surprise that they remained afloat last season despite having to move their home games to Ulsa. That arrangement continues for now, but the team are critically weak and in serious danger of going down despite the good will shown to them by all clubs recently. They have two decent strikers and some good players such as Shudland and Ilyess, plus the resigning of club icon Rob Bell from Ulsa. But they lack depth and morale for obvious reasons, and will have to fight hard to hold on to their Gold League status. They should survive, just.

REVOLUTIONARIES
Manager: Tony Dalton (40, Eura)
Stadium: Sasky Rising Memorial Stadium (Brigham, 107,000)
Lineup: [4-1-2-1-2] Bram Couch (21/GK/USI), Meyson Salume (23/RB/SJG), Ulysses Bonaventura (26/CB/YTT), Earl van den Brink (24/LCB/AUD), Niels Kruse (35/LB/PIS), Reece Cooper (22/CDM/EUR), John Spartan (36/CM/EUR), Sebastian Nunez (24/CM/SJG), Charles Owens (29/AM/EUR), Josh Holmes (23/CF/EUR), Frank Rozenthal (31/ST/VAL) [Subs] Ben Prince (37/GK/EUR), Mark Rogers (35/CB/EUR), Kurt Strong (20/CB/EOT), Jurgen Eisenhower (18/CM/PAS), Rhys Griffiths (17/AM/EUR)

After another unsatisfying Globe Cup finish last season, Revolutionaries have dismissed their former manager and brought in Tony Dalton, one of the most ambitious young coaches in the country. It’s a big ask for the former Bastion Lions manager but he most definitely has the resources to create some real success at the traditionally “biggest” club in Brigham. Revolutionaries have been a team in an awkward transition for several years, patched over by some big money signings. The retirement of Gareth Blackthorn is just the start of the end of that process; soon Mark Rogers, Ben Prince, Niels Kruse and maye even Frank Rozenthal must follow. The most titanic figure to go though will be the now 36 year old John Spartan, who insists he can play until he’s 40 like his mentor Steve Thompson, but has had injury problems ever since he turned 30. The defence is also potentially talented but inexperienced. However, there is a lot of young and sharply acquired talent in this team (including the inspired Josh Holmes), the latest being World Cup winning Sunrisian goalkeeper Bram Couch acquired at 21…on a free transfer! If they can fill in some gaps with true quality, and maybe keep Spartan in the starting lineup as much as possible to provide the youngsters with leadership, it will only be a matter of time before Revolutionaries are truly back in business.

SPARTANGRAD
Manager: Walter Crasder (Eura, 45)
Stadium: Olympic Stadium (Spartangrad, 104,773)
Lineup: [4-2-3-1] Alexander Roudet (34/GK/VAL), Kyle Carter (21/RB/OSR), Rhys Gibbons (32/CB/EUR), Bryan Butler (27/CB/EUR), James Fowey (29/LB/APX), Harry Gravesen (20/CM/EUR), Eidur Gunnlaugsson (31/CM/PIS), Jacen Xasan (30/RM/CEN), Lewis Hughes (32/AM/EUR), Nicolas Moran (23/LM/VAL), Lucan Palmisano (22/ST/APX) [Subs] Harvey Blake (19/CB/EUR), Csasar Mor (33/CM/PAS), Elias Shaw (25/AM/EUR), Victor Larsen (35/CF/PIS)

There has been only one bit of activity in Spartangrad during this very quiet transfer window. Csaszar Mor, barely fit and 33, is pushed to the bench as an impact player following his international retirement. He is replaced by new bargain signing (at £4.1m) Harry Gravesen, a brilliant prospect from Usmer. There is a slight issue in that Gravesen and Gunnlaugsson are very similar players in terms of style, but the former is now 31 so he may find himself pushed out before long. The rest of the team remains formidable and in title contention, especially with their excellent backline – something that you couldn’t attribute to Spartangrad not very long ago – though they have some ageing players. If they don’t win the league this season, expect some serious investment next summer.

SUTTONVILLE
Manager: Stephen Mansfield (47, Brenecia)
Stadium: Haddock Bridge (Suttonville, 47,550)
Key Players: Bailey Norman (19/RB/EUR), Robert Hobbs (22/CB/EUR), Lukasz Urfstadt (35/LB/PIS), George Ross (27/CDM/EUR), Elton Lamb (32/CM/EUR), Eddie Wood (25/LM/EUR), Carl Sykes (29/CF/EUR)

Stephen Mansfield is one of the few foreign managers in Euraleague at the moment, and a former player for Suttonville when they were in the Gold League for Season 16. Last season they were somewhat fortunate to stay up. Two good signings have been made in Carl Sykes and Lukasz Urfstadt, but it would be surprising if this team doesn’t find itself in a relegation battle. Much will depend on talismanic left midfielder Eddie Wood.

ULSA
Manager: Nicky Martin (48, Eura)
Stadium: Troutbridge (Ulsa, 97,460)
Lineup: [4-2-3-1] Nemanja Petrovic (27/GK/SZA), Espen Erevik (32/RB/PIS), John Leach (23/CB/EUR), Frank Ainsworth (29/CB/EUR), Jude Skinner (22/LB/EUR), Branmir Milic (28/CM/SZA), Freddie Nolan (29/CM/EUR), Adnan Szalai (24/RM/NPH), Craig Sinclair (34/AM/EUR), Sebastian Kaur (29/LM/AUS), Kris Campbell (31/ST/EUR) [Subs] Leonard Sharpe (18/LM/EUR), Jakob Lindesfarne (32/ST/SEM)

When Nicky Martin retired at the end of Season 18, having had an exceptional career at Ulsa but little success in international football, he must have had mixed feelings about not quite living up to his full potential despite being a success. Now though he is the club’s manager for a second season, and is overseeing a period of change at the club. The elephant in the room is the respective ages of Craig Sinclair and Kris Campbell, though both look fit enough to play until 40 if they wanted to. Quite how Ulsa will carry on to the same level with them gone is anyone’s guess. For now though they are available and Campbell is around his peak, with Sinclair only slightly past the peak, while much of the team – Milic, Nolan, Ainsworth and Kaur especially – are at their own peak. Then there is the current man in form Adnan Szalai, who carries the torch of hope into the future. More silverware is certainly on the cards if they can keep key players fit.

UNIONEERS
Manager: Mattis Bjarnson (55, Polar Islandstates)
Stadium: The Iron Shed (Harther, 45,390)
Lineup: [4-1-2-3] David Cooke (30/GK/EOT), Joe Caffin (34/RB/EUR), Massimo Dini (32/CB/SAM), Aidan Bryant (27/CB/EUR), Neil Perry (26/LWB/DAE), John Talbot (22/CDM/EUR), Gabriel Edwards (29/CM/EUR), Liam Armstrong (20/CM/EUR), Shaun Peason (27/CF/EUR), William Stone (24/ST/EUR), Tomas Rincon (29/ST/SJG)

It has been a remarkable rise to the top for the rather forward looking Unioneers, though they do have the look of yet another plucky club rising and then likely falling away once stripped of key players. They lost Jim Stokes before but have survived this window without major losses, and they still have a formidable assortment of young talent in Liam Armstrong, John Talbot and William Stone. They dipped into the transfer market regardless, solving their gap at right back with the short term solution of signing veteran Revolutionaries right back Joe Caffin. Their solid defence, organised midfield triangle and surprisingly effective offensive trio (what a find Tomas Rincon is turning out to be, and what a prospect Stone is!) have done wonders so far and a top half finish is not off the table for Unioneers. All they have to do is stick by their principles when they are on top and compromise when necessary to get the points on the board when they are not.

WORKERS UNION
Manager: Slovan Bresiavic (42, Mytannion)
Stadium: Workers Athletic Achievement Stadia (Callodown, 80,000)
Key players: [4-4-2] Tim Lukic (26/CB/SZA), Andrew Hanson (29/CB/EUR), Anders East (24/LB/SEM), Michael Wells (28/CDM/EUR), David Morton (32/CDM/EUR), Grif Hales (29/AM/EUR), Cameron Reeves (28/LW/EUR), Phil Gulliver (37/ST/MRT), Elliot Francis (27/ST/JEC)

Workers Union’s play style might have been dead basic in the past couple of years, but you can’t deny that its functional and has kept them in the top flight. Their squad has ebbed and flowed, losing quality but also retaining enough key players to remain competitive, the key ones still at the club being Grif Hales, Cameron Reeves and Tim Lukic. They have also made some good signings, the latest being Semarland left back Anders East. It helps that they have a somewhat settled striking partnership up front. Phil Gulliver might be 37 now but his many years in Euraleague have taught the former Mertagne international how to pick his timing and find gaps, while Jeckish striker Elliot Francis is functional enough and should get a manager 10 goals or so. WU will struggle at times, but should stay up. However if they want to progress and keep filling up their massive stadium, they will need to invest next window and make sure the best players stay at the club. Grif Hales cannot carry their creativity forever.

Kernovi Domestic Football League:
The Kernovi Football League is built upon a pyramid promotion and relegation scheme. Above all the schemes is the Provincial Championship, where each of the nine provinces fields a provincial team. The Kernovi Domestic leagues have undergone reform in 2016 to a brand new system due to the move of the first two football league into the private sector by the Republican Government. This was achieved by privatising the Kendhlek Peldroos Kowethas (KPK)(The National Football Association).

Major Domestic Leagues:

Kernovi K2
Sai Entertainment's K3
Assorted Provincial Leagues
The first league cup is the Kernovi Kendhlek Batel (Eng:Kernovi National Cup), known colloquially as the Batel. To enter this bracket, the team needs to have a stadium capable of seating more than 3000 people with a reasonable expectation to fill a number of these spots in a league game and be in the top 16 ranking teams. In future, to enter the 'Batel', the top placing two teams from the K2 are promoted. The third place team from the 'Batel' plays off against the 14th place team K2 for promotion or relegation respectively. In the 'Batel', the bottom two teams face instant relegation, while the 14th placed team fights for survival. In the 'Batel', the top four placing teams following the round robin enter into a Semi-Final Knock-out stage. In the K2, the bottom two teams face instant relegation, while the top two teams of the Sai Entertainment's K3 face promotion. There are 2 legs in the 'Batel' and the K2. Below the National is a collection of provincial leagues. The Kernovi Sports Report publishes yearly play-by-plays of the Provincial Championship, the 'Batel' and the K2.

The Provincial Championship
Provincial Championship 1

Kernovi is made up of eight major provinces and one minor province. These are;
Greater Kernovi [GK], Stengwlas [SG], Petroc [PT], Donyarth [DY], Lornyarth [LY], Swyftlandre [SW], Rozenluit [RZ], Asisi [AS] and Rewgwlas [RW]

Round 1: GROUP STAGE

Through random draw, these were assorted into two Groups. As they were unseeded there was no requirement for a special draw. Group A is made up of four provinces and is as such; RW, SG, AS, GK. Group B is made up of five provinces and is as such; LY, SW, RZ, DY, PT. In the Group Stage, 3 Points are distributed for a win, 1 point for a draw and none for a loss. The top two teams from each Group progress to the next round.

Green means advance to knockout stage, assured qualification to, at least, the Globe Cup
Orange means this team enters playoff for survival with K2 3rd Place Team
Red means relegated to K2 League

The frosty island province of Rewgwlas once again shows its dominance in domestic football, by presenting their only two provincial teams, the Polar Bears and the Snow Leopards, to the final group stages of the 'Batel', redeeming their weak showing in the Group Stages of the Provincial Cup earlier in 2016. The Snow Leopards and the Polar Bears started to show signs of fatigue in the final weeks of the tournament, but achieved strong early results to make these weak showings salvageable. Mermur Beach, defending champion from the K1 League when the league was state-run, once again dominated the league table. If projections are correct, the Beach will be meeting the Snow Leopards in the finals, which has been an extraordinarily easy match up for the Beach so far, winning by margins of 5-0 and 4-2 over the season, a track record the Snow Leopards will be eager to shed. In some what of a surprising showing however, with Isca FC underperforming this year, it created a gap for Cormyrth Park, a surprising addition to the lineup considering they narrowly escaped relegation in the K1 league through a successful survival match.

National Championship League: Janford domination rolls on

Janford City has won the R League three straight times and they also take home the crown from the National Championship League after finishing 5-1-2 and getting some dominant wins. The relegated team this time around is Elysia United, who went 0-0-8 and failed to get a single point out of the eight matches. Elias Basajuan finished as the leading scorer, with 12 goals, and Liam Barrow finished with eight assists in eight appearances. Because of this victory, Janford City will represent Redvale in the UICA CC as national champs in addition to being champions of the R League.

Postby The Askari Union » Wed Nov 09, 2016 6:51 pm

It's time for the first ever professional Legaskari as the Union professionalises its football system, elevating certain great clubs to the professional level. While the quality is anticipated to be...
... developing...
... it should still be a fantastic spectacle as yet another nation opens its borders to the world! Or, at least, to Rushmore.

The side will operate under a closed system with socialist ruling - all clubs are given the same salary cap to operate under and in lieu of any promotion or relegation the aim is to reach the six-team playoffs. So far the clubs have struggled to fill the salary cap with players of the necessary quality, but next season, the league opens its borders to foreign players. Then things should really kick off.

Without further ado; the clubs!

Home: Dark green/dark green/yellow
Away: White/green/white
Likely Starting XI (4-3-3): 1 - Montagno; 2 - Cante, 4 - Tavares, 5 - Rivere, 3 - Riera; 8 - Gris, 6 - Dugas, 10 - Gagnon (c); 7 - Corsi, 9 - Levian, 11 - Riva

Based in the small town of Crespoli and with a catchment including much of the rural south, SSC are an often-overlooked presence in the league. They lack an outstanding player, but Henry Montague has assembled a surprisingly capable squad of decent footballers who should play some reasonably progressive, attack-minded football. He insists they will be competitive, as well.

In goal, Montagno is one of the league's cheaper goalkeepers, but the promising local 23-year old is tipped for a good future in this league. She's ably supported by Tavares and Rivere, two experienced and capable centre-halves, but it has to be said that Cante and Riera on either side are definitely budget options for salary-cap purposes. The budget is also stretched in midfield, with the glacial Dugas and the overweight Gris, both in their 30s, more or less just warm bodies next to the diligent captain and international, Stefano Gagnon. Up front, most of the goalscoring burden falls on wingers Corsi and Riva, with Levian injury-prone and with a career-spanning tendency to run hot or cold. How effective she proves will probably make or break the side. But Crespoli have decent enough depth, at least, and have not had to resort to paying part-time students, promoting amateurs or the general sort of dross dismissed by the press as 'NPC characters'.

Crespoli are a capable side, but not an outstanding one. They should finish around 5th.
Home: Orange/black/orange
Away: White/orange/white
Likely Starting XI (4-4-2): 1 - Cevenni; 16 - Valeri, 3 - Lascelles, 5 - Leone, 6 - Bonevacia; 7 - Antony, 4 - Uderzo, 8 - Depard (c), 11 - Masculin; 9 - Proulx, 10 - Priori

The favourites of the competition and representing most of the capital, Amelie Pernaud's Dinamo expect to take the league by storm. They're an attack-minded team with big ambitions, and they have the cream of the national crop. Anything other than victory would be a disappointment, although it bears mention that they aren't overwhelming favourites - but they've recruited well, with a core of stars on a solid platform.

In Pierluigi Cevenni, Dinamo are blessed with the best goalkeeper in the competition, a reflex stopper capable of earning a contract overseas. Leone, by competition standards, is an excellent ball-playing centre-half, and is partnered by the solid Lascelles. Interestingly, 17-year old Cygnet Valeri is tipped to start at rightback while Carlo Bonevacia on the left is very much a budget option. In the centre of the pitch, Uderzo and Depard form an unspectacular holding duo without much creativity, but the bustling Antony and young, quick Masculin are threats going forward. Up front, Proulx has no first touch, but his sheer confidence makes him a strong finisher in the Legaskari, and he should thump in a few goals - the more experienced Gerard Priori knows his way to goal, too, and will likely play a more supporting role.

Dinamo have the best-rounded side with a few stars and an up-and-coming young manager in Pernaud. Expect them to finish as champions.
Home: Dark red/dark red/white
Away: White/black/black
Likely Starting XI (4-1-4-1): 1 - Syracuse; 19 - Plantagenet, 2 - Montalbano, 6 - Batton, 3 - Arca; 5 - Almunier (c); 7 - Rattiston, 10 - Petit, 8 - Montargis, 21 - Solignac; 9 - Toulon

The industrial northwestern city of Dunelan has perhaps the least-fancied side in the league, the only club not represented in the first Askari squad. Young manager Pepin Auclair, a reasonably distinguished right winger in his day, has a hell of a lot to work towards. He's bought a fairly limited squad with few players in their prime, and will need to hope that superior technique and defensive discipline shine through.

Syracuse is a competent budget goalkeeper who offers nothing spectacular. Much of Dunelan's budget went on the central defenders Montalbano and Batton, both big, reasonably intelligent defenders not prone to needless mistakes, and Batton's decent enough with his feet. Plantagenet and Arca are both young, very quick and very rough around the edges. There is no pace in the midfield, with the capable Almunier (31) sitting behind warm body Montargis (30) and the aging, aptly-named 34-year Joel Petit, the 'Little Prince' of Askari and a very good playmaker who made a brief living in Pravenna back when that was a viable career destination. The lightning-quick Rattiston is a livewire threat down the right and the hopes for 17-year old Aurora Solignac on the left are sky-high across the nation - veteran forward Gianni Toulon is there to knock in the goals, which may be in short supply.

The competition may be salary-capped, but there are only so many good players to go around and Dunelan managed to fail to get any of them. They will likely finish 10th.

Likely Starting XI (4-3-1-2): 1 - Parma; 2 - Bresciano, 3 - Barnetta, 4 - Corneille, 17 - Primavera; 7 - Tifoso, 6 - Nero, 8 - Mantovani; 11 - Armagnac (c); 25 - Bernardi, 10 - Borgia

Elan is definitely one of the less-fancied sides of the competition, assembled quickly to fit into a small fort that developed into a large town in the country's north over the years. Benoit Montserrat, a long-term assistant, impressed the owners with a UICA B coaching license earned recently in Eura, and while his side does look a little like the leftovers of the league, he can be trusted to make something of them, at least.

Vincenzo Parma is a big and straightforward goalkeeper, prone to errors. A cheaply-assembled back line should just about stand up to pressure - Bresciano and Barnetta are decent enough, but Primavera is just 19 while Corneille's signature on a professional contract must be a crime of some sort. Bianca Nero, whose parents presumably had what they thought was a great sense of humour, lines up alongside the aptly-named Tifoso and the side's best player, Mantovani, in a packed midfield - the experienced Giulian Armagnac will be at its tip, an intelligent, poised player. Up front, teenager Bernardi slots up as the legs next to the huge 32-year old Milan Borgia.

Elan aren't terrible, but they aren't going to make any waves. 9th sounds right.

Likely Starting XI (4-4-2): 1 - Coquel; 2 - Perrin, 4 - Bosco, 5 - Tromel, 3 - Dufort (c); 7 - Grigio, 22 - Brignoli, 6 - Mertens, 11 - Artagnan; 9 - Vignolet, 7 - Verdi

Florian Laurent's unfancied Gaillard has picked up an unwanted reputation as being, more or less, the leftovers. Those critics... probably have a point, in a way. Gaillard's recruitment policy has just been to recruit as many solid players as possible, and that's been achieved - they even have a bit of depth to them.

That said, the squad still doesn't look great. Fantine Coquel is an entirely adequate goalkeeper who should at least be a good shot-stopper, and in Bosco and Tromel the defence is looking solid enough. Perrin and Dufort are enterprising overlapping fullbacks let down by the underwhelming quality of the wingers in front of them. Grigio is weirdly slow for a winger and Artagnan is very fast and has no technique at all. Machis Brignoli is a crisp, technically-gifted midfielder and should thrive with the experienced Mertens to shield him. Up front, Vignolet and Verdi are both big, average and serviceable.

Not terrible, but not great, either. Expect around 8th.

Likely Starting XI (4-3-1-2): 1 - Salvatici; 2 - Como, 4 - Sicil, 6 - Tamboure, 3 - Quaglia (c); 7 - Martedi, 5 - Costa, 10 - Corrado; 8 - Allegre; 9 - Corso, 11 - Martinet

Grigio are not a well-rated or highly-ranked team... but they're no pushovers, either, and it's little surprise that Dante Marchesi's miracle works with them won him the national side job. He sets up this traditionally blue-collar, defensive side with impeccable discipline, and to hit teams on the break. They will rely on surviving pressure and relieving it with two very quick forwards, praying they can score, as well as well-researched set pieces.

With regards to their squad, Grigio are in a weird state. Salvatici is a rock-solid goalkeeper with genuine area command, and captain for both club and country Carmine Quaglia is too good a player for this competition. The rest of the back line is very respectable, with Como and Sicil experienced players and Tamboure young and talented. But the rest of the squad is, for the most part, well... cheap. Veterans Martedi and Costa are water-carriers for the real talent, the quick-witted Leona Corrado, and Nino Allegre was a promising player before two ACL injuries in his mid-twenties. Up front, Corso is very fast and has no other redeeming virtues. 21-year old Farina Martinet, equally fast but also capable of actually scoring, will have most of the burden for scoring.

Worse on paper, but in practice Grigio will be happy enough with 7th.

Likely Starting XI (4-4-2): 1 - Marchegiano; 2 - Sastra, 4 - Pentangeli, 5 - Perrot (c), 3 - Trudeau; 8 - Quattro, 23 - Cirvante, 10 - Aliberti, 11 - Ghislain; 9 - Bustinza, 12 - Montana

Sierra Tissier is fairly young, just 40 years of age, but has already earned a reputation as a canny operator with a knack for gamechanging substitutions. She's made an interesting recruitment policy as well - but she's hoping it's effective, as big city Honneur have marketed themselves as something of a marquee club within the league. Failure isn't worth contemplating.

Tissier favours a hard-hitting 4-4-2 and it's helped by the presence at the back of Corrado Marchegiano, considered the future of Askari goalkeeping. Valerian Perrot is a fearsome destroyer partnered by the capable, if hot-headed, Ganymede Pentangeli. Young Sastra is an effective and promising rightback but 34-year old Trudeau on the left is probably where the most money was saved. He will not be trusted to go forward. In midfield, Lethe Cirvante has a silky first touch and, by these standards, impeccable close control - at 18, she has the world at her feet. Corneille Aliberti is there as a warm body in support, nothing more. On the flanks, Quattro and Ghislain are both quick attacking wingers who should provide a fair few goals as well as support to the front men - Bustinza the star (if a bit arrogant), Montana capable enough in her own right.

Honneur is certainly eclectic but ought to prove effective, and would fancy themselves to finish 2nd.
Home: Red (white sash)/red/white

Likely Starting XI (4-3-3): 1 - Taglia; 2 - Riva, 4 - Rudano (c), 5 - Tobin, 3 - Gabbia; 8 - Bisset, 6 - Aucciello, 11 - Normand; 7 - Marchand, 10 - Sabbadin, 13 - Ravanelli

Ah, the Hussards! The proudest club in the Legaskari, if not the most successful, as they have come to prominence largely on the basis of attacking. Wildly. New 39-year old manager Ghislain Beyard, who only retired two seasons back and completed a Masters' degree in architecture (having earned the Bachelor over the course of his career) is an enthusiastic proponent of those attacking philosophies and will be expecting to thrive under them.

Taglia is the smallest goalkeeper in the competition, 5'5" but spring-heeled and eager to get her hands and knees dirty. Riva is an integral part of the side's width, very quick down the flanks, and a worse, older version of her is on the left in Gabbia. Still, the squad had to skimp somewhere - Rudano and Tobin were decent centre-halves. Before their mid-thirties. Which they're in now. But the picture brightens back up again in the centre of the pitch - Aucciello is an intelligent and diligent holding midfielder, one of the best players in the league, while Bisset is one of the tournament's most promising players. Normand is another cost-slasher, a 34-year old journeyman. Up front, they aren't quite as good as their midfield - but Alyx Sabbadin is an incredibly good striker at this level, very quick and decent finishing. On either side, Marchand and Ravanelli are two of the quickest players in the competition.

The Hussards follow a proud tradition and it's done well by them in the past. In this brave new dawn? 3rd sounds right.
Home: Blue/white/blue

Likely Starting XI (4-3-1-2): 1 - Brillante; 2 - Buillon, 5 - Goscin, 6 - Kosciel, 4 - Perotta; 13 - Gignac, 7 - Lauren, 8 - Thiago; 11 - Orsini (c); 9 - Ambrosi, 10 - Pignata

Sylvain Becali's assembled a decent team together in the capital's second team. Like their big brother Dinamo, AC (representing the slightly more affluent northeast of the city) aims to play attractive, progressive football, and may find some joy in that approach. If they do manage a successful first season, it could be the catalyst for AC to truly establish themselves as giants... but if they fail, well.

Anyway, the squad's good. Brillante's a big man who's struggled with injuries but the 22-year old has had a clean bill of health for the past year, just in time. The defence is a bit flimsy - Buillon is mediocre, Perotta is old, Goscin merely serviceable and Kosciel young and raw - but the midfield should add some stability, with Gignac and Thiago capable runners supported by Lauren, recently recovered from back-to-back leg breaks. The link in attack is Orsini, a bit past his prime but very capable of doing a job for his team and a real set piece threat. Up front, Rolando Ambrosi will get the goals - 33-year old Pignata's well past his best.

They're above-average but unlikely to trouble the real favourites. 4th sounds right, but look out for them in the playoffs.

Likely Starting XI (4-3-3): 1 - Zullo; 6 - Gallo, 27 - Farnese, 4 - Merlot (c), 3 - Moretti; 8 - Ansaldi, 5 - Chopin, 11 - Accorsi; 9 - Cinque, 7 - Quaranta, 16 - Colline

Stade-National has gone largely under the radar, but the Roses have quietly poached some big names in the Union. Experienced manager Ciprian Benedict has very quietly assembled a powerful spine and what is more or less the framework of a side around it. Balanced in style, most attacks will come down the middle where all the quality is, while their budget fullbacks ensure that the flanks will be a mainly defensive effort. In preseason, it's proven surprisingly effective.

How do you fit four great players, all internationals, under the cap? And the answer is; 'sacrifices'. 34-year old Donna Zullo, who is, it has to be said, not an immensely good goalkeeper, is one such sacrifice. She has spent most of her career as a backup, for good reason. Moretti is very fast and offers little else, Gallo is a liability, but 19-year old Lucia Farnese has the perfect tutor in the calm, composed Armelle Merlot beside her. The midfield is the peak of the squad - Ansaldi a powerful box-to-box man and Gratien Accorsi the gifted creative essence with the muscle of the ursine Bruno Chopin to back them up. Up front, Cinque and Colline are the very quick budget wingers with no end product, but Magali Quaranta will expect to lash in the goals.

A lopsided team who it's hard to anticipate, but an inconsistent season finishing in 6th would be appropriate.

Dinamo Sainati 4-1 LSC Dunelan
SSC Honneur 2-1 FC Elan
Hussards 3-5 Gaillard
AC Sainati 1-0 Grigio Calcio
SSC Crespoli 1-2 Stade-National

My God, it moves! The first ever Legaskari season kicks off to an almighty bang! Thousands pack out the stadiums across the country as professional football is born on these shores! Mighty Dinamo crush the weak and ineffectual LSC Dunelan, with Aurora Solignac’s early piledriver entirely undone as records are set left and right! Dinamo thump four past Syracuse for the biggest win in the competition’s brief history, while Alyx Sabbadin notches up a fine brace in the first twenty minutes of a match that the Hussards lose 5-3 to a determined Gaillard! The game’s afoot!

FC Elan 3-4 Dinamo Sainati
Gaillard 1-0 LSC Dunelan
Grigio Calcio 0-2 SSC Honneur
Stade-National 4-2 Hussards
SSC Crespoli 1-0 AC Sainati

Dinamo, Gaillard, Honneur and Stade-National continue their rise to the top in exuberant fashion, joint at the top! Yet again the luckless Alyx Sabbadin is on the receiving end of a righteous wallop! Magali Quaranta, rated the best striker in the competition, shows why by conquering the mantle of the first ever hat-trick in tournament history! Even the lamentable Michael Colline scores against the hapless Hussards! FC Elan come to battle mightily against Dinamo but their bravery is undercut by the lack of polish, and still Andrea Bernardi buries two great chances in the first half! But then Dinamo strike back four times between 30th and 60th minutes, and Vincenzo Parma looks utterly crestfallen as he errs horribly, clearing a ball right into Rico Proulx’s face! Priori scores two and a fourth from Masculin is won when Parma fumbles a cross into his own net! Oh, the lamentable Parma! From that point on, Armagnac’s penalty is nothing more than a consolation!

Dinamo Sainati 3-2 Gaillard
FC Elan 1-2 Grigio Calcio
LSC Dunelan 3-1 Stade-National
SSC Honneur 0-1 SSC Crespoli
Hussards 0-1 AC Sainati

How the mighty have fallen! Honneur are conquered in a close match by SSC Crespoli, with mighty Emmanuele Rivere the undoubted man of the match, ‘the Beast’ destroying all hope of a comeback for the red and blue after Mikael Corsi clips a perfect opener past Marchegiano! Furthermore, Gaillard are beaten in yet another rip-roaring victory for Dinamo - Cevenni the hero as yet again his defence lets him down while at the front Priori is outdoing all targets! Stade-National are strangely beaten by the lamentable Dunelan, reliant on extreme set piece discipline as Toulon, Montalbano and Almunier each score from masterful Petit free kicks! Yet again, Quaranta is the lone source of comfort for the Stripes! At the bottom of the table is a real shock almost beyond measure, as the mighty Hussards fail to score at all! The egregious lack of pace of Rudano and Tobin is to blame as Rolando Ambrosi, on the break, simply runs past everyone and blazes past Taglia in the goal!

Grigio Calcio 2-0 Dinamo Sainati
Stade-National 1-3 Gaillard
SSC Crespoli 3-2 FC Elan
AC Sainati 2-0 LSC Dunelan
Hussards 1-1 SSC Honneur

Ahh, football! Where nothing is guaranteed, where anything can happen apart from a Hussard victory! They think they’ve finally done it when Mica Ravanelli sees that the raw Marchegiano is lingering far, far off his line - she hits it hard! And it arcs beautifully into the net over a scrambling goalkeeper! As beautiful as it is to watch the equaliser has an air of inevitability to it - alas, it’s Tobin again, a centre-back who seems well past her best years, accidentally turning in a dangerous cross from Claire Ghislain! The first draw in Legaskari history! Grigio Calcio sit back and wait for Dinamo to exhaust themselves going forward, making use of their defence - the privilege of the weak - before the tired visitors conceded twice in the last ten minutes. Farina Martinet had been yet to score in senior football before this match but now the 21-year old has two to her name!

Dinamo Sainati 2-0 Stade-National
Grigio Calcio 2-0 SSC Crespoli
Gaillard 3-1 AC Sainati
FC Elan 3-3 Hussards
LSC Dunelan 0-1 SSC Honneur

Dinamo return straight back to the ascendancy, but they depend on the generosity and incompetence of Donna Zullo between the posts. Lucia Farnese offers a tame backpass to her goalkeeper which is sliced straight into the path of Proulx, who needs absolutely no invitation, and to make it worse she bats horribly weakly at a Rene Antony shot from distance that beats her at her near post! It is becoming apparent that there are not ten good Askari players in each position. But the good players are genuinely good - take the excellent midfielder Orianne Mantovani, who caps off two assists for Elan with a spectacular diving header that beats Hussard goalkeeper Taglia! But it’s nothing more than another equaliser to dash Hussard hopes, who were up 3-1 at half-time but paid the price when Normand was sent off for going through Tifoso.

SSC Crespoli 0-2 Dinamo Sainati
AC Sainati 1-1 Stade-National
Hussards 1-2 Grigio Calcio
SSC Honneur 0-2 Gaillard
LSC Dunelan 1-0 FC Elan

Oh, how lamentable for Elan! After such a brave, brave showing against the Hussards, Dunelan win the only way they know how - Toulon going down in a way that can best be described as ‘gamesmanshippy’ under Primavera’s challenge, Joel Petit with a flamboyant Panenka beyond Parma. Dunelan’s best players, the centre-backs Montalbano and Batton, keep the clean sheet. It lightens up an otherwise uncharacteristically dull week in a competition that has become the envy of the world, at least in terms of entertainment.

Dinamo Sainati 1-1 AC Sainati
SSC Crespoli 1-2 Hussards
Stade-National 1-1 SSC Honneur
Grigio Calcio 1-0 LSC Dunelan
Gaillard 1-0 FC Elan

Huzzah for the mighty Hussards! Were it not for the poor finishing of Levian the game may have been dead and buried within the first half-hour, but captain Stefano Gagnon’s goal seemed to bury the match as it was. But, my God, what a heroic comeback in the second half! Paulo Normand hit the ball hard into the box and who is there to smash home but Sombra Marchand! Marchand then plays provider, slipping a throughball for the incomparable Alex Sabbadin to tap past Montagno! Is that it for true neutral value? Ah, but what’s this? The first Sainati derby between professional sides! AC feel as though they’ve secured an important upset when Buillon’s cross is stamped home by authority by Damian Pignata! The striker had been yet to score all season and had been in danger of looking like a waste of time and money! But what’s this? No! In injury time, the 93rd minute, it’s Depard with the cross, it’s Proulx leaping for it - and brought down by Goscin! A penalty! Sensational stuff! Proulx fights Depard for it in an unseemly display of capitalist greed but ultimately… yes! Plants it beyond the hitherto-brilliant Brillante!

Hussards 1-0 Dinamo Sainati
SSC Honneur 1-2 AC Sainati
LSC Dunelan 1-2 SSC Crespoli
FC Elan 0-2 Stade-National
Gaillard 1-0 Grigio Calcio

Gods! A wonderful performance by Paola Taglia in the Hussards goal is enough to defy Dinamo, a side unused to being denied! At the other end it’s the talented but goalshy Ravanelli hitting the winner, seizing upon a rare error from Chiarina Leone. The dismal Dunelan cannot even buy a win at the moment - superior against Crespoli for eighty minutes, leading through Solignac and really, they should be more goals ahead. But a senseless red card for Montargis, a beautiful direct free kick from Marius Riva, a penalty given away by the inept Henri Plantagenet and a smooth penalty from Stefano Gagnon sees Crespoli steal the points!

Dinamo Sainati 2-5 SSC Honneur
Hussards 3-1 LSC Dunelan
AC Sainati 2-1 FC Elan
SSC Crespoli 0-1 Gaillard
Stade-National 2-0 Grigio Calcio

‘Zounds! Dinamo slump to a second defeat in a row, a third without a win, righteously thumped in exuberant fashion by Honneur! Luciano Bustinza wins hit hat-trick, thanks in part to two penalties, but the masterful midfielders Quattro, Cirvante and Ghislain all simply overpower Dinamo! Proulx celebrates his late consolation and is booed righteously by the crowd. The Hussards score four goals in the match against lowly Dunelan, albeit one of them is a spectacular diving header from Rudano past… Taglia, his own goalkeeper. Oh dear!

LSC Dunelan 0-3 Dinamo Sainati
FC Elan 0-2 SSC Honneur
Gaillard 2-4 Hussards
Grigio Calcio 1-1 AC Sainati
Stade-National 2-0 SSC Crespoli

Four wins in a row for the Hussards! Rudano makes up for the own goal last match by heading home two at the correct end this time around, with Marchand and Bisset finishing Gaillard off. Dinamo find the perfect panacea to their ills in a match against lowly Dunelan, who they thump 3-0. “There weren’t enough players for ten clubs,” Pepin Auclair laments. “We will rebuild when the foreigners come.” Throwing in the towel already, Auclair? Shameful!

Dinamo Sainati 1-1 FC Elan
LSC Dunelan 0-0 Gaillard
SSC Honneur 2-0 Grigio Calcio
Hussards 0-2 Stade-National
AC Sainati 4-1 SSC Crespoli

Sainati are quietly achieving wonderful things this season but this 4-1 win over Crespoli might just be their best performance yet. Montagno’s sieve-hands are not helpful against the rampant Rolando Ambrosi, but the midfield unit of Gignac, Lauren and Thiago dominate the match and Crespoli barely get a sniff! Erika Gris’ late consolation avoids complete humiliation, but not much else. Dunelan and Gaillard let down the league and nation horribly with an utterly insipid scoreless draw.

Gaillard 2-3 Dinamo Sainati
Grigio Calcio 0-0 FC Elan
Stade-National 1-0 LSC Dunelan
SSC Crespoli 0-4 SSC Honneur
AC Sainati 1-1 Hussards

Crespoli are reeling! Honneur simply run the game through Lethe Cirvante, who caps off her nineteenth birthday in emphatic fashion with a goal and two assists, and while Montana has been terrible this season, a thumping header in the 86th minute for just her second goal to date should raise morale! Dunelan sit back in their own half for the whole match against Stade-National, a genuine siege scenario! They do not manage a shot on target, but they come close to a point - until in extra time, Accorsi swings in a diagonal ball and in at the far post is Colline! Boom!

Dinamo Sainati 3-0 Grigio Calcio
Gaillard 2-3 Stade-National
FC Elan 0-1 SSC Crespoli
LSC Dunelan 0-1 AC Sainati
SSC Honneur 3-4 Hussards

Grigio Calcio are meant to be good at defending… but not today! Depard’s free kick is flapped at horribly by Salvatici and Leone makes no mistake with her free header, Masculin’s cross is turned in by the hapless Cesare Sicil before Salvatici is beaten at his near post by the enterprising Rene Antony. “We were bad at everything we’re meant to be good at,” Dante Marchesi laments. But at least they could go home and watch Honneur’s fight against the Hussards! It opened in emphatic fashion with Bustinza scoring the quickest goal in Legaskari history, seizing upon a mistake from Tobin to score in just thirteen seconds! Cirvante hits the bar, but on the counterattack, Ravanelli provides Marchand with a tap-in and the Hussards are back in the game! Bisset, then Sabbadin seize victory for Hussards in the first half, but Honneur fight back in the second! Bustinza gets his second of the game, then Montana her third of the season, but they’re foiled in injury time as a corner pinballs around their area only to be smashed in by Normand!

Stade-National 4-5 Dinamo Sainati
SSC Crespoli 3-1 Grigio Calcio
AC Sainati 1-0 Gaillard
Hussards 1-1 FC Elan
SSC Honneur 2-0 LSC Dunelan

All eyes on Stade-National today, the surprisingly powerful side built around getting the ball to Quaranta as often as possible - but it’s actually Gratien Accorsi who lashes home the opener! Moretti scores the second from leftback, but is then hopelessly exposed by Masculin, who cuts inside, shoots and pulls one back! Lascelles heads home a sloppily-defended corner, Depard smashes home a penalty and, in the 47th minute (from one added to injury time, no less!) Proulx’s unnecessarily powerful header smashes into the stanchion - and stays there! In the second half, despite a quickfire goal from Uderzo (first of the season!) a furious Stade fight back, Ansaldi and then, finally, Quaranta taking it to 4-5… but they can’t get an equaliser past the mighty Cevenni!

Dinamo Sainati 1-2 SSC Crespoli
Stade-National 3-1 AC Sainati
Grigio Calcio 2-1 Hussards
Gaillard 1-2 SSC Honneur
FC Elan 2-1 LSC Dunelan

Elan! Finally! It has taken them this long to find a victory - all they needed was to be at home against Dunelan, who are even worse! Admittedly, it started badly - within five minutes, Arca had swung in a cross, absolutely nobody bothered to mark the immobile Gianni Toulon, perhaps expecting him to move. He doesn’t. He just heads home. However! Elan then fight back, equalising within just two minutes, an exuberant and flowing assault leading to Bernardi slamming home an equaliser! And then! Glory be! 59th minute, Elan have been slamming on Syracuse’s goal and inexplicably Dunelan’s bad goalkeeper has been making saves until! Finally! They just pass through the defence, picking holes in them until finally Carlo Montalbano falls over and Giulian Armagnac dashes into the gap, sidefooting home!! Elan are on the goddamn board!!!

AC Sainati 1-0 Dinamo Sainati
Hussards 7-1 SSC Crespoli
SSC Honneur 2-1 Stade-National
LSC Dunelan 0-1 Grigio Calcio
FC Elan 3-2 Gaillard

Well, Elan are evidently excited by their one win - they win another! It’s Gaillard who are the victims this time, despite the best efforts of the surprisingly capable Fantine Coquel totally let down by her defence. Verdi and Brignoli manage a slightly fortunate 2-0 lead in the first 30 minutes but Elan buckle down, fight back, they conquer! Primavera scores her first goal from leftback on her 20th birthday, Bernardi notches up a second and the glorious run of Mantovani is given far too much respect, allowing her to thump the winner past Coquel! Oh, but who cares about them - the Hussards crush lowly Crespoli into the earth, 7-1! Alyx Sabbadin sets a record with her four goals, Bisset with four assists. Jacqueline Montagno between the posts for Crespoli is left in tears.

Dinamo Sainati 0-0 Hussards
AC Sainati 3-2 SSC Honneur
SSC Crespoli 0-2 LSC Dunelan
Stade-National 3-0 FC Elan
Grigio Calcio 1-0 Gaillard

Crespoli almost make a grievous error, coming agonisingly close to drawing for the first time all season… no matter! Rivere to the rescue, giving away a needless late penalty to Dunelan’s Rattiston and then being beasted in the air by Gianni Toulon who heads home a second. Elan’s hot streak comes to a sudden end as they are annihilated 3-0 by Stade-National. The lopsided Stade have recently found a way to make the most of their best players and Magali Quaranta’s elegant hat-trick takes her up to the top of the goalscoring charts!

SSC Honneur 0-1 Dinamo Sainati
LSC Dunelan 1-3 Hussards
FC Elan 1-1 AC Sainati
Gaillard 1-2 SSC Crespoli
Grigio Calcio 1-2 Stade-National

Stade-National have been, in a very quiet kind of way, incredibly good! They breeze past Grigio Calcio - okay, sure, it’s 2-1, but they win comfortably, hit eleven shots on target (Salvatici is a very good goalkeeper!) and Calcio score their only one of the match, Zullo fumbling Leona Allegre’s powerful strike. AC Sainati are locked with them on points, and only after a late Ambrosi equaliser through a very tired Elan defence - Dinamo beats Honneur to leapfrog them, in an inelegant match won when Perrot needlessly destroys Proulx. Who steps up for the penalty? None other than Depard, who powers it home as ever! With fourth to eighth split by two points, eighth and ninth are split by thirteen. Elan took fifteen matches to find a win, and it’s remarkable that Dunelan - thumped by the mighty Hussards - have somehow found a way to be even worse!

Still, those two might be out of finals contention - but it’s anyone’s game in the top eight. And the fans are lapping it up!

Dinamo Sainati 3-0 LSC Dunelan
SSC Honneur 1-1 FC Elan
Hussards 7-0 Gaillard
AC Sainati 1-0 Grigio Calcio
SSC Crespoli 2-0 Stade-National

By God, the Hussards… ! Fantine Coquel does not do a whole lot wrong, as Bosco and Tromel vanish in front of her and the rampant, ravenous, unrelenting assault of the Hussards knows no bounds, viciously annihilating Gaillard and not even giving them enough breathing room to lay a shot on Taglia’s uncharacteristically safe goal! AC Sainati take the lead atop the table as they edge Grigio and Crespoli captain Stefano Gagnon scores twice to put down Stade-National - though the hero at the other end is Montagno, responsible for six strong saves!

FC Elan 0-2 Dinamo Sainati
Gaillard 0-1 LSC Dunelan
Grigio Calcio 1-2 SSC Honneur
Stade-National 2-2 Hussards
SSC Crespoli 2-1 AC Sainati

The leadership changes hands again! This time, it’s Dinamo - they expend little effort taking down lowly Elan through goals from Proulx and Depard, while Crespoli edge AC Sainati 2-1 thanks to a 92nd-minute Mikael Corsi header at the far post! Stade-National are far from convincing against the Hussards, as well - though at least a draw salvaged by the astonishing Quaranta is preferable to another 7-0 drubbing!

Dinamo Sainati 2-0 Gaillard
FC Elan 1-2 Grigio Calcio
LSC Dunelan 3-2 Stade-National
SSC Honneur 0-3 SSC Crespoli
Hussards 0-1 AC Sainati

Stade-National are reeling! Doubtless their tactic of relying on a few strong players is cursing them - Ansaldi and Quaranta secure an expected first-half lead over feeble Dunelan, certainly, but Petit had already chipped the flapping Zullo by then, and second-half goals from Montargis and the much-maligned 34-year old Gianni Toulon finish Stade off! Though a 91st minute handball from Montalbano puts them back into the game… and Quaranta smashes the penalty into the crossbar! Scenes at Dunelan! And Dinamo maintain their lead with another easy win over Gaillard, Uderzo and Depard running the game from midfield and with the side just looking a class above at the moment!

Grigio Calcio 2-0 Dinamo Sainati
Stade-National 2-3 Gaillard
SSC Crespoli 0-1 FC Elan
AC Sainati 1-1 LSC Dunelan
Hussards 0-2 SSC Honneur

Dinamo’s run of five straight clean sheets, four straight wins, are broken by, of all people, Nino Allegre! The 33-year old simply lumps the ball very hard forward, it takes a deflection that wrongfoots Cevenni and Grigio Calcio are 1-0 up! No matter what they do, they cannot break Salvatici’s goal and at the death Farina Martinet scores Grigio’s second on the break to secure a remarkable victory! But the main title rivals fail to take advantage - Gaillard overcome Stade-National, who have one point from four, while AC Sainati fail to even best lowly Dunelan!

Dinamo Sainati 3-2 Stade-National
Grigio Calcio 1-2 SSC Crespoli
Gaillard 0-1 AC Sainati
FC Elan 1-7 Hussards
LSC Dunelan 0-2 SSC Honneur

Good God! The Hussards are at it again, and this time it’s Elan who suffer! Admittedly, Elan’s defence is made of papier-mache, but the Hussards absolutely do not let them get away with a single mistake! Milan Borgia’s goal, a thumping header from ten yards… makes it 3-1 on the stroke of half-time, and there’s still four more Hussard goals to come from that point. Magali Quaranta, cantering to the lead of the Golden Boot, must thank her lucky stars at how the Hussards tend to split their goals between their forwards - Quaranta herself opens the scoring against Dinamo, but Proulx (twice) and the pacey Masculin ensure a comfortable home advantage going into the second half! Stade dominate the second half, Cinque gets a rare goal to make things nervous, but Cevenni makes several flying stops to keep Dinamo in the lead! But AC, thanks to Gabriel Lauren’s thunderous free kick to conquer Gaillard, remain in the hunt...

SSC Crespoli 1-1 Dinamo Sainati
AC Sainati 0-2 Stade-National
Hussards 0-0 Grigio Calcio
SSC Honneur 1-1 Gaillard
LSC Dunelan 1-1 FC Elan

CRESPOLI HAVE A DRAW! In fact, there are four draws this week, but Crespoli’s affects the top of the table the most - Elsa Levian, who has not impressed this season, scoring early and Dinamo’s attacking rightback Cygnet Valeri pulling one back late, beating the erratic Montagno at her near post! The irresistable Hussards face the immovable Grigio and cancel one another out to a scoreless draw! As for the win? Stade-National, in poor form of late, click back into gear and thoroughly outplay AC Sainati, a rare Brillante error sees him pass straight to Quaranta, who passes it along for Cinque to tap in! Further, in the 76th minute just as AC are starting to mount something of a comeback, Ansaldi manages to battle through the entire midfield and then, just as he gets inside the box, manages to hit the ball with the outside of his boot past a wrong-footed goalkeeper! 2-0, the final score, and things are looking interesting ahead of the Sainati derby...

Dinamo Sainati 1-3 AC Sainati
SSC Crespoli 2-1 Hussards
Stade-National 2-1 SSC Honneur
Grigio Calcio 0-0 LSC Dunelan
Gaillard 1-2 FC Elan

Sainati derby time! By God, it is a wonderful thing how the miniscule size of the league means that there are so many of these things! In yet another passionate match, Dinamo dominate early on, fail to finish their chances and it’s AC Sainati the other end, Ambrosi the other end, Lascelles with a needlessly sliced clearance straight into Ambrosi’s stomach and he lumps it past Cevenni! Dinamo’s first-half dominance finally tells, though only through Lascelles making up for her error by heading home Depard’s corner, but in the second half mighty AC come out of the gates with all guns blazing! Buillon first, from rightback, and a dynamic Orsini free kick second interspersed with a fantastic save from Brillante with Priori one-on-one! Glory to AC!

Hussards 2-3 Dinamo Sainati
SSC Honneur 2-1 AC Sainati
LSC Dunelan 2-0 SSC Crespoli
FC Elan 1-1 Stade-National
Gaillard 0-1 Grigio Calcio

Oh, Hussards… ! You should have buried Dinamo, in truth, but profligate finishing and the terrible defending of the glacial Rudano and Tobin (the latter now 36!) they find a way to lose in the last ten minutes! It’s a banner day for Dinamo, when lowly Elan hold the sliding Stade, Honneur leave it late until Lethe Cirvante’s chipped strike sees Brillante fall over and Dunelan comfortably beat an otherwise resurgent Crespoli!

Dinamo Sainati 0-0 SSC Honneur
Hussards 6-0 LSC Dunelan
AC Sainati 2-0 FC Elan
SSC Crespoli 4-1 Gaillard
Stade-National 1-1 Grigio Calcio

Oh… Dunelan… they’d gone three matches unbeaten but choose to break that in some style, going down 6-0 visiting the Hussards! They may only be in the mix just to reach the finals, Ghislain Beyard’s men, but they are adored by the neutrals and have secured a status as everyone’s second team! AC claim some ground at the top with a solid victory over Elan, while Crespoli striker Elsa Levian has already scored more in the second half than the first with a brace to help her side to a comfortable 4-1 win over Gaillard!

LSC Dunelan 1-2 Dinamo Sainati
FC Elan 0-1 SSC Honneur
Gaillard 2-0 Hussards
Grigio Calcio 1-1 AC Sainati
Stade-National 0-2 SSC Crespoli

Their recent crushing defeat in mind, Dunelan are actually approach the challenge of Dinamo quite gamely - still, at the end of the day they are not good enough and Syracuse lets Depard’s weak long shot trickle through her to put the gulf in class on show. When foreign transfers are permitted, many foreign goalkeepers will be on the agenda! Perhaps not for Crespoli, though - Montagno is not consistent but she makes seven strong saves to deny Stade, whose anger makes them sloppy at the back! Riva and Gris capitalise on errors at the back to secure a 2-0 win!

Dinamo Sainati 1-0 FC Elan
LSC Dunelan 0-1 Gaillard
SSC Honneur 1-1 Grigio Calcio
Hussards 1-0 Stade-National
AC Sainati 0-1 SSC Crespoli

Such a dull, eventless week! Not even the Hussards can muster up any excitement, as no side scores more than a single goal and there’s only six across the whole week! Who cares? Let us move on!

Gaillard 0-0 Dinamo Sainati
Grigio Calcio 4-1 FC Elan
Stade-National 1-1 LSC Dunelan
SSC Crespoli 2-0 SSC Honneur
AC Sainati 6-1 Hussards

Oh, so that’s how it feels! The Hussards are annihilated 6-1 by AC! It’s a banner day for Rolando Ambrosi, the big, bluff striker earning his first hat-trick in senior football with Orsini, Thiago and Perotta finishing the job! Still no goals for Damian Pignata, for whom this may have been one season too many. Still, they’ll be buoyed further - Dinamo were unable to break down Gaillard while Stade could not even beat Dunelan at home. Stade have, however, slipped out of contention - but perhaps Crespoli, who convincingly defeat the capable Honneur, can make a late charge for the title?

Dinamo Sainati 1-0 Grigio Calcio
Gaillard 0-2 Stade-National
FC Elan 0-3 SSC Crespoli
LSC Dunelan 0-1 AC Sainati
SSC Honneur 1-1 Hussards

Crespoli are in fine, fine form! In a week where few dazzle - though Stade finally manage to emphasise their best without suffering through their worst in a mighty 2-0 away win over Gaillard - Crespoli manage a fifth win in a row, annihilating the pathetic Elan and rooting them further to the bottom of the table! Gris! Corsi! An own goal from Barnetta! Victory! Can the Crescents somehow find it within themselves to make a title challenge?

Stade-National 2-2 Dinamo Sainati
SSC Crespoli 2-0 Grigio Calcio
AC Sainati 0-1 Gaillard
Hussards 2-1 FC Elan
SSC Honneur 3-0 LSC Dunelan

More good news for Crespoli - they sweep aside Grigio thanks to Levian and Riva, while AC stumble to the Legaskari’s least remarkable team, Gaillard, Vignolet with a powerful header that Brillante fumbles into the net! Dinamo? Well, they have the best of the match but they are unable to deal with the majestic goalscoring superpowers of Magali Quaranta! They manage a draw, true, but only because of a thunderous Proulx strike that rebounds off the post, hits the hapless Donna Zullo in the back of the neck and bounces in! Things are down to the wire!

Dinamo Sainati 1-0 SSC Crespoli
Stade-National 1-2 AC Sainati
Grigio Calcio 0-3 Hussards
Gaillard 1-0 SSC Honneur
FC Elan 0-0 LSC Dunelan

Crespoli are on a run of six wins on the spin, five in a row being clean sheets… for favourites Dinamo, a match that meant little to nothing at the start of the season suddenly becomes a six-pointer! Still, they hold the advantage and break the run, thanks in strong part to the rock-solid Cevenni and, of course, a thumping Proulx header at the other end! Contrast this with Stade-National, leaders at the halfway point but steadily capitulating ever since. Quaranta, who has played almost every minute for them, gives them an early lead against AC with a powerful side-footed volley - but Stade’s weaknesses cost them. Not down the wings, where both sides have saved cash on their fullbacks, but down the centre - Ambrosi and Pignata each capitalise on a defender error to provide the other a tap-in!

AC Sainati 3-2 Dinamo Sainati
Hussards 0-1 SSC Crespoli
SSC Honneur 1-1 Stade-National
LSC Dunelan 0-0 Grigio Calcio
FC Elan 4-0 Gaillard

Elan have had so precious little to be happy about this season, but they just went out all guns blazing against Gaillard to deal their finals chances a likely mortal blow! Andrea Bernardi, a decent 19-year old striker already, gets a nice brace, Primavera somehow gets a hat-trick of assists from leftback and Orianne Mantovani secures a nice goal to finish things off with a lovely finish, while just for today Amos Corneille refrains from his clown impressions. Beyond their happiness, there’s something more important - a Sainati derby! Locked at 2-2 in the dying seconds of the match, Orsini swings in a corner, Cevenni flaps at it and who’s there in the centre? Etienne Kosciel! He nods it home and AC have clawed their way towards contention! Crespoli, narrowly edging the Hussards, are also in with a slight chance, three points behind!

Dinamo Sainati 2-0 Hussards
AC Sainati 0-1 SSC Honneur
SSC Crespoli 0-1 LSC Dunelan
Stade-National 3-2 FC Elan
Grigio Calcio 1-0 Gaillard

A decisive strike in the title race! Claire Ghislain’s cross is perfect for a wonderful diving header by Bustinza that AC Sainati have no answer to, while Crespoli somehow lose to Dunelan again! At home, no less, thanks to Cante being unable to get out of the way of Aurora Solignac’s cross and almost backheeling it past his own goalkeeper, Montagno! Dinamo? Well, for their part, they decisively defeat the Hussards 2-0, goals from Antony and Proulx proving the distance and putting them three points, four goal difference and an insurmountable goals scored advantage in front!

Eusland Football - Season 2

Following the success of the first season, and 4 clubs recording profits of over a million punts (and seven recording losses, but never mind those), the Eusland Football Association (EFA) has decided that a second season will go ahead. With clubs still finding their feet, it's bound to be a bit of a lottery for a few years, but clubs such as Thornley, Eusland Petroleum, and Eustia City will be looking to continue on the success of last season.

Near the tail end of the season with teams expecting to profit even more, the EFA announced that as of the third season, Division Three will begin with 12 new teams. The plan is to expand both Division One and Division Two to 14 and 18 teams respectively, and increase Division Three to 18 teams also. While this transition stage takes place, teams from Division Three will not be taking part in the Eusland Cup.

The new Division Three teams:
AFC Thornley, Armbridge FC, Ascial 73, Brightsea FC, Eston Borough, Eustia Red Star, Harksing Town, Kimber Kickers, Poolmouth County, Poolmouth Rovers, Sorley Market FC, Union Eusland.

There will also be 1 automatic promotion spot from Division Two in to Division One. The promotion playoff will also remain but with a new format. Instead of the top 4 teams from Division Two entering a knockout tournament to decide who will play against the bottom placed Division One team (who will now be automatically relegated), the top 3 teams from Division Two will be pitted against the 11th placed team from Division One in a round robin league format. Who finishes top will play in Division One in the following season.

It’s down to the wire here in the Union!
Dinamo sit top, and anything but a defeat to Honneur should be enough to claim the first premiership!
AC are right behind, though, and face far easier opposition in bottom feeders Elan!
Crespoli’s race is run for the title, and they play an essentially dead rubber with Gaillard. They and Honneur are locked into 3rd and 4th - home advantage in the preliminaries, no matter what.
Stade-National’s season has collapsed, and they will finish 5th no matter what.
The Hussards need only match Grigio’s result, level on points with an insurmountable goal difference. If they can manage that against Dunelan away, they will hold onto the final playoff place. Grigio will host Stade.
As for Gaillard, Dunelan and Elan, they have nothing to play for. But nothing was really expected of any of them in the first place, and all have bright spots - a reshuffle next season, and the addition of foreign players, should restore some parity across the league!

Kick-off!

And within two minutes, AC have already made a statement of intent! Perotta racing down the left on 33-year old legs, cutting back to the drifting Orsini who finds a space, slipping through none other than Rolando Ambrosi, who toebashes it past Vincenzo Parma! Still, Dinamo can cling onto their- no, wait, no! Honneur! Beatrice Montana is played wonderfully through on goal by Cirvante and fires it into the back! A disastrous first 15 minutes for Dinamo! The Hussards, for their part, open up a lead on Dunelan, a poorly-defended free kick from Gwenael Bisset headed home by Marche Rudano! The Hussards captain might just be a decent centre-back if given faster cover.
But Dinamo find a way back. Rico Proulx opens up his stance, running onto a great diagonal pass from Rene Antony, he hits it with full force… ! And it ripples the back of the net! They just need a point. That’s enough for them, now! Surprisingly, nobody scores for the rest of the half - though AC are utterly dominating Elan. Vincenzo Parma, normally so mediocre, makes a string of good saves. Perhaps he is a Dinamo supporter?

The second half begins with a bang. Yet again it’s Cirvante - this time, when she sees half a chance and doesn’t get much pressure on her, she takes the duty on herself! It practically finds the top corner, and even a goalkeeper of Cevenni’s quality is stationary! AC seize the moment, and Parma’s newfound certainty takes a nosedive when he flaps sufficiently at a Buillon cross to allow it to sneak into the net!
Time goes on… Elan get their first real chance of the game, Andrea Bernardi played through wonderfully by Mantovani, but one-on-one with the goalkeeper she makes a heavy touch at the wrong time and Brillante manages to smother the ball! And at the other end… AC get a third! Damian Pignata, 34 and decidedly unimpressive, manages to smash an inswinging right-footed shot past Vincenzo Parma at his near post!
And, finally, Dinamo clinging on for dear life… and then they let it slip. It’s a simple thing, a Cirvante corner, but marking set pieces has been a weakness across the league all season, really. Somehow absolutely nobody notices Ganymede Pentangeli attacking the near post and she flicks her free header into the net! And, just minutes later, Bustinza fires a half-volley into the crossbar! Things are looking desperate. It’s the 85th- now 86th minute, and AC are clinging to the title. Elan have given up and are lucky not to concede again when Rolando Ambrosi is played through on goal, unmarked, by Orsini… and plows his shot into the side netting!
They are made to regret this.
It’s the 89th minute, Giulia Depard on the ball. She marches forward… she notices how little pressure is on her. She keeps marching forward and then suddenly jinks past Aliberti, Perrot and Pentangeli standing like statues and she fires it clean and true, well past Corrado Marchegiano! Dinamo have seized it back! From losing on goal difference to winning on goals scored!
And… that’s how it ends. 3-2 to Honneur, and both sides celebrate… 3-0 in Elan, and that wasn’t enough for AC. Still, both sides can rest for now - Crespoli, Honneur, Stade-National and, thanks to a 1-0 win, the Hussards will contest the preliminaries.

Preliminary Finals
SSC Crespoli 4-2 Hussards

The Hussards have been very inconsistent this season. Defensively, this was certainly an off day - they were cut apart many times in the first ten minutes with Crespoli’s poor finishing letting them down - Bisset laid down a perfect pass for Ravanelli to score against the run of play. But then the Hussards collapsed for twenty more minutes, two goals from Corsi and a third from Gris burying them. The Hussards get one back on the edge of half-time, mighty Rudano standing tall to head home a corner… ! But it’s to no avail, as Corsi’s late completion of his hat-trick - a player who often struggled to finish before a real breakthrough season! - ensures the Crescents succeed.

SSC Honneur 3-0 Stade-National
Ahh, Stade-National… they simply fade away, and Honneur dominate them. Bustinza scores in the 20th minute and Aliberti adds to it on the edge of half-time, while late in the game Zullo rolls the ball to Farnese, who panics under pressure from the marauding Montana and overcooks a pass back to the goalkeeper… who can’t trap it, and can only watch, devastated, as the ball rolls into the net!

Semi-Finals
AC Sainati 2-1 SSC Crespoli

Crespoli battle hard, so hard! Yet again the finishing lets them down in a first half they dominate - Gagnon smashes home a strike from outside the box, off the inside of the crossbar! But Corsi, Levian and, with a free header off a corner, Rivere all miss easy chances, and AC make them pay - the Crescents tire after the hour mark, and Ambrosi seizes on a weary pass from Dugas to stroke home the equaliser! Crespoli cling on… up until injury time sees Buillon’s hail-Mary cross glanced home with a mighty leap from Ambrosi! Crespoli have strived mightily - they have plenty to build on. But AC will be in the final!

Dinamo Sainati 0-0 SSC Honneur (1-0 AET)
Ahhh, mighty Rico Proulx! In truth, this match is a rather dreary affair, both sides solid and yet neither having the creativity to split the other apart, and though Honneur have the better half-chances, Pierlugi Cevenni is always equal to them. It’s Cevenni’s saves that pave the way for Dinamo’s main man… make way for Proulx in the 112nd minute, controversially but well-deservedly an Askari international, who had barely had a scrap to sniff at before a powerful, downward header met Cygnet Valeri’s elegant cross! Marchegiano without a chance - and the final shall be a Sainati derby!

Final
Here it is… the first final. Ever so tight in the league and so proves the match, balanced on a knife-edge! The first half is all about parity, neither side willing to give an inch - the best chance of all falls to mighty Rolando Ambrosi, who finds Gignac’s chip over the top with a beautifully weighted header, Cevenni flailing but the ball… can only reach the top of the net, bouncing along the roof!
The second half, and finally both sides have turned it up a notch! Thankfully, there’s two excellent goalkeepers on the pitch - Cevenni practically has to beat the fires out of his hands when a genuine scorcher from Gabriel Lauren is palmed away from goal while a mighty punch from Gentian Brillante repels Depard’s corner, well… practically into midfield! And it starts a counterattack, with Priori forging his way forward, managing to shove his way past Buillon and Perotta left behind before, in the one-on-one, keeping his nerve to bobble the ball past Brillante!
But late on, AC’s pressure tells as well… it’s pinball in the last couple of minutes, an unconvincing flap from Cevenni seeing the ball bounce along to Orsini who just drives his shot into the ceiling of the net with thunderous force! Both sides slump to the ground - there’s no energy in either, and even extra time is quiet. And so, of course, to penalties!
Depard’s first up… nerveless finish past Brillante!
Orsini… ! No! The hero in regulation time, he blasts his effort over the bar! Cevenni with an absurd wobbly-leg routine to put him off, and perhaps it worked? 1-0 to Dinamo, then...
And 2-0 now, it’s Chiarina Leone rifling it home! Cool, calm, collected!
Lauren… slots it low and hard, 2-1! Totally ignoring Cevenni’s legs. Now that’s professionalism!
Dinamo’s second striker steps forward, it’s Gerard Priori … no! No, no, no! But Brillante, yes! It’s a decent enough penalty but Brillante guesses - no, he saw that coming! And he hurls himself aside and punches it away!
Pignata… tame, tame, tame! Just straight down the centre, Cevenni manages to swing a leg out as he dives and chop it away! Was he, too, put off? 2-1 it remains!
Proulx is next up, and he doesn’t break stride, thrashing it home! AC’s number four steps forward, needing to score to keep them in the game, Cevenni’s legs vibrating with elegant fury...
… but Cevenni hurls himself aside and claws away Gianluigi Perotta’s effort! Victory for Dinamo!! Premiers!!! Champions!!!! Heroes!!!!!

Dinamo Sainati 1-1 AC Sainati (1-1 AET, 3-1 PKs)

The Olympic Stadium is the largest stadium in all of Electrum, with a capacity of 100,000 and was built on reclaimed land as a place to host the Summer Olympics opening ceremony, and group stage matches, as well as the finals matches for the Football tournament of the Games of the XI Olympiad. It is occasionally used for Terranean League matches where its capacity is warranted, and hosts the finals of the Copa Terranea as well. This Stadium hosts the primary matches of the Electrum NT. The recent building of the Olympic Stadium has meant that it contains new innovations, such as LED screens that ring around the entire stadium, meaning more fan entertainment and greater advertising capacity. The stands all around the stadium contain several food and beverage booths with cuisine from all around the multiverse, from tacos to burgers, with of course alcohol (mainly beer and wine) being served as well. A full stadium is guaranteed.
