Mareibat Premier Season 5

Image

Mareibat Premier Preview

by Dulles Washington | 17th March 602

The Mareibat Premier comes shambling back for a fourth season. Once again Halholzer United are the favourites for the title, but wait what's this?! Bellight FC and Harmonica Tundra have both gone fully professional in the off season and with Pilgrimage and Teol United becoming semi-professional as well, the standard of play might be marginally better than dreadful this time around. Although that's probably the ceiling for the standard of the league for the forseeable future, with Mareibat still as cash strapped as ever. Scraglet Rovers, having amassed just ten points all of last season will have upped their small islander status this seaon - hopefully they will manage to pick up a win this season!

Halholzer United defied anyone - literally anyone - who might have argued that the league is becoming less of a procession by sweeping all in front of them to gain their fifth straight title - this title by an enormous 11 points over surprise package Bellight Wanderers who beat out heated locals rivals Bellight FC and newly professionalised Harmonica Tundra to get the "best of the rest" prize this season. Pilgrimage continue to teeter on the edge of a return to UICA, the club always just struggling to get over the line - especially this season with Roy Tobin moving to Bellight FC halfway through after a poor start to the season for them.

Cape of Hope FC have overperformed in recent years, and will be a little disappointed to only get 7th place this season, while the good project developing over in Teol took a hit as they struggled to eighth. Below them are all the usual suspects, although give it up for Scraglet Rovers! After not recording a single win all season last time out, they managed to get six wins in the bag and finished 12th, with Halholzer Spitfires continuing to be an absolute mess in finishing rock bottom.

Lydia Gould: "The Strike" is masking underlying problems in Tin City football
Part of an ongoing series about: Tinhamptonian Football Crisis

In October, Tinhamptonian football was on the verge of the top of the world, defeating the much-fancied Juvencus 2-1 in the Cup of Harmony final. Four months later, it is on its knees - doubly so. How could this have possibly happened?
A small and evidently imperfect introduction: The Tinhamptonian club football structure has always been riddled with dubious, ever-changing and selective rules as well as a lack of "fan authenticity" - none of the clubs so far appear to attract any one background, which was supposed to change with CoH 73 reserve money (which, as it turns out, is still in reserve). On the 5th of January, with the league on the verge of kickoff, the same Tinhamptonian Football Association that had come fresh-faced from a refused bailout (but, incredibly, not so much the newly-nationalised FC Tinhampton) declared its inability to organise the Tinhamptonian MegaLeague for at least two months, pushing the league past the UICA international football cutoff deadline and forcing the city's teams to be re-entered manually for the following season.
Supposedly, this was intended as a cost-cutting measure "whilst we find other mechanisms of sorting out football." As you might expect, there were a few minor small-scale riots, but nothing of any note besides. To nobody's surprise, this is where George Nell - he of TinChannel infamy - steps in with his Nell Shield, a four-legged league season which he had invited the entirety of Tinhampton's league pyramid and assorted non-leaguers to participate in but which would not be officially recognised by any party outside his circle. When it did promise to come, much of Tinhampton's internationally-represented contingent and several other respected players not only threatened to - but did walk out, leaving the media tycoon with a shell of a league containing barely a dozen shells of teams.
It, too - with sixteen signatories at that time - is on hold whilst he enters official negotiations about how best to proceed with MegaLeague 3 (as it is now known) - which will almost certainly feature his "amended" apertura-clausura proposals as well as exclusive TV rights to himself. If this does turn out to be the case, many will think it the Nell Shield in all but name. The player strike does not appear likely to carry on into Tinhampton's new sporting order, although a few major problems still bubble underneath the surface.
As has been aforementioned, whilst FC Tinhampton are well into the black and the Eleven Retinues and New Lions have also been in receipt of subsidies, all seven other MegaLeague clubs - with the exception of Original club name do not steal, made rich by vlogger ad revenue but unlikely to get any better as a football club due to it - have sunk into bankruptcy. Whilst the government have guaranteed Tinhamptonian participation and the same contingent of 23 in the 82nd World Cup, and the contracts of all players "when possible" for the 74th UICA cycle season, the 135 Tinhamptonians that are not represented (Priscilla Evans is now at Crystal Fair HC whilst each of the traditional "big three" have their own foreigners in the squad) have expressed a mixture of surprise, disappointment and anger.
The supposedly "professional" MegaLeague had similarly always appeared to be that in name only, with the only difference being players getting only a small fraction of extra support and a minimal wage for their day's play for the new season - and that alone. As it stands, unless Nell and co. can pull off an even more extensive financial package than first thought, Tinhamptonian footballers appear unlikely to be as rich as any of their future transnational rivals any time soon. Case in point? Will Bryant, supermarket checkout operator turned haphazardly-appointed skipper of the Midtown Pals, has decried his team's structures as "a load of rubbish nonsensicals, this is exactly what my mates told me it was like a few months back and I don't think anything's going to change." Whether he is right will be proven in the next few weeks.

For the past twenty-nine years, Lydia Gould has written at the intersection of football and politics in Tinhampton, Gladom Newion, Neokarta, and Demanams, winning about five Tinhamptonian Columnist of the Year awards whilst at it. You may get in touch with her at lydiagould[AT]tinhamptonian.ti

Globe Cup: Ōtachi Audfort, Royal Michaeltown, SIS FC
Series B Champions’ Cup: Union Orange, Spartans, FC Savinge
AOCL: Cherrygrove City
Cygnus Cup: Ōtachi Audfort
Saltstead (SAL) final site bid
Series B Champions’ Cup: King William VII National Park, Ashwell (Capacity: 77,000)
Located in the heart of Romanesque city of Ashwell in the borough of Grandstrasse, Champions’ Cup 70 final venue de Nationalėpark is at the centre of de Nationalėplaats, the sporting mecca of the Commonwealth and home to the Royal Olympic Federation of Saxland, Sealand and Walland, the Royal Soltsteadish Football Association and several of the most important venues in Saltsteadish sport. The surrounding city is an ancient city in the modern era and home to the royal family and some of the nation’s biggest attractions, giving visitors plenty of sightseeing to do before and after the game.

The stadium—which takes its name from the father of Saltsteadish democracy, longest-reigning Saltsteadish monarch and great-grandfather of the Reigning King—is the largest in the country, features amenities such as a retractable roof, air conditioning, sports museum and full Wi-Fi access and is readily accessible to fans through the capital’s bus network and Ondergrundtrein metro system. A truly neutral venue owned and operated solely by the Royal Saltsteadish Football Federation, de Nationalėpark serves as the usual home of the Saltsteadish national football team, the host venue of Silver and Bronze Division promotion play-off finals and the final of the annual Royal Cup.

Named after Jean-Jacques la Rouge, the founder of Philibiscostal constituent city Port-Alexandre, the Arena la Rouge is the hallowed ground of Omerican football. “The Crown Jewel”, as it is affectionately called by the locals, is best known for playing home to United Philibiscostal, the most decorated club in modern Omerican football history. The stadium is also close by the headquarters of the United Republican Soccer Federation, the governing body of Omerican football, and regularly hosts home games of Les Incorrigibles, the Omerican national side.

Blood-gushing Omericans will drone on with tales of the stadium’s history, having hosted memorable international games against Nephara, Quebec and Nova Anglicana and too many Federation Cup finals to begin mentioning. The amenities of the stadium, including numerous restaurants and a nature trail right outside the near-sea stadium and free Wi-Fi within it, are also a point of pride to the locals. Fans and players will also be able to enjoy the retractable roof, several lounges within the stadium grounds and air-conditioning in the case of overly hot or cold weather, real possibilities in Omerica.

An all-seater stadium since its inauguration in 2010 and recently renovated to add 4000 additional seats, the stadium is located in the peripheral ward of Côte-Rouge and enjoys its own station on the Philibiscostal Metro leading to just outside the gates. With travel time between the stadium and the centre of Port-Alexandre being about twelve minutes on the Metro and a number of bus links connecting the stadium to the Arthur Bates International Airport and restaurants and hotels around Omerica’s largest metropolitan area, players and fans will be able to enjoy an entire republic worth infrastructure ready to host the Globe Cup final.
