DREAMPLANET SUPERCUP - SUPERTAÇA DREAMPLANET SEASON 4 (2003-2004)

FC Libon 4-3 (aet) Libon United

There are many clubs in Libon, Sporting CD being the biggest Libon club, however they weren't in this as they had been eliminated on a shock away goal loss to Santa Clara, Libon United had beaten Real Island CD, a fallen giant of Dreamplanetian football since Rodrigo Vaz left, and FC Libon had won the league the season before, profiting from an underperforming Sporting CD.

Both teams had been going at it in the league and it was no different in this match, both teams knew eachother very well and knew their flaws, Libon United went 2-0 up from goals by Miguel Costa and Xavier Silva after FC Libon looked shellshocked.

However the tide started to turn as Libon United got complacent, Aaron Hungar quickly gave a 3-2 lead to FC Libon, and when the title looked FC Libon’s, Xavier Silva got a penalty in the 86th minute, Jorge Cardoso got a red card for picking a fight with Xavier and his teammates.

In extra-time, FC Libon substitute Pedro Andrade headed one in from the corner early on, however Libon United were not able to get an equaliser, and FC Libon started the season with a trophy and optimism.

DREAMPLANET LEAGUE - LIGA DREAMPLANET SEASON 4 (2003-2004) - CONCLUSION

Before the 2002-03 season, the Dreamplanet FA announced that the Second Division was going to be merged with the first division for the 2003-04 season, and so relegation and promotions weren't achievable, however they ended up picking only the Top 2 from the previous edition, expanding the league to 18 clubs, however the other clubs from the 2nd division still play in the cup.

Coerefente won their first ever league title, prior to this shock win they were Cygnus Cup Winners Cup regulars and did well in the cup alongside having a couple of internationals on the team and if their win wasn't a shock in Dreamplanetian football already, they beat FC Libon on Goal Distance, scoring 17 more goals than FC Libon. It will be interesting to see how Coerefente do up against the big boys as they carry the flag for Dreamplanet alongside FC Libon in their inaugural Campionato Esportivano di Campeones appearance.

Mortinenses were seen as the no-hopers coming into the tournament, as they are a mid-table team they were not expected go far but picked up easy teams and heading into the final rounds they missed the "sharks" and got a straight-forward path to the final. FC Libon had eliminated the likes of Coerefente, who went on to win the league, and Linderton FC, who eliminated Sporting CD in one of the biggest shocks of the tournament, to reach the final.

FC Libon were actually shut out by Mortinenses for the first 45 minutes, who were more than holding their own as they had a penalty in the 29th minute but FC Libon veteran goalkeeper, Rafael dos Bosques, guessed right and saved Rui Guedes’ penalty. FC Libon’s goal came in the 51st minute as Jorge Cardoso headed it in after a post-corner scramble in the box.

Mortinenses came back firing, forcing Rafael Dos Bosques to make vital saves to keep his team in the lead, but eventually the breakthrough came after a counter-attack as a bad pass from Antonio Sousa was cut out and just when the ball came to Aaron Hungar, the contesting defender got a hand to it, Aaron Hungar scored from a superb free kick in the 80th minute and secured a cup win against a hard-fighting Mortinenses.

1st Legandian Premiership

Stagmouth Retains Title!

The season started with the rebranding of the First/Premier Division announced last April, getting rid of the old 20 team format. One part of the rebranding was the shortening of the league to 18 teams, to make it more interesting, which had been announced two seasons ago so that four teams would be relegated last season instead of three. In the summer, no massive signings were made albeit the rumour mill turned some interesting moves around, like Mark Sherry to Canterford or Wolves (England), or Huntley to Leighton United. This year, the league opened itself to UICA competitions, meaning there was even more to play for.

At the end of last season, Marcoton City, Foxcester, Stagmouth Rovers and Millborough were relegated to the Championship ( Division Two), bringing Esttex County and Fercastle United up, with Stagmouth Athletic being champions, beating Lincolnpoole, Leighton Albion and Real Canterford. The team everyone had their eyes on was Esttex, after a thrilling season of positive, attractive football, aided by a strong defence, nicknamed the "Milton Walls", after its creator, John Milton, the incumbent manager. However, after his promotion celebration, he announced that he wasn't ready, personally, to be in the top flight, and this meant that Jonathan Richmond took over the team. Fercastle, meanwhile, had their hopes up with a season to remember for Huntley and Walliams, despite budget restrictions.

The beginning of August came, as the Summer sun shone over the island. The defending champions went off to the worst start possible with two defeats, as Eintracht soared above the rest for six matchweeks. Mark Sherry scored the first hat trick of the season against Lincoln County. Ten Matchdays later, into late October, the Premiership was wide open with three points seperating the top six teams (Kingsfort, Lincolnpool, Stagmouth - 21, Deancastle, Eintracht - 20, Leighton Utd -19.). This tight race held up until Boxing Day when it started to turn into a three horse race between Stagmouth, Innsbrooke and Leighton.
The end of the first round on Matchweek 17 showed the reality each club which was in. On the top part, the three teams remained within arm's reach, as Lincolnpool and the Royals stayed safe in International positions. At the bottom of the table were Easttex which felt Milton's departure hardly, along with Dragonfield, Griffonham and . Kingsfort which were title candidates were now in this group, along with Newville whose main striker, Daltonwood, only returned in early November. Above them were their rivals, Real Canterford in 10th just behind the pack, as Valefort surprised in a top table position.
‎The second half of the season was marked by the narrowing of the title race to two, and the eventual confirmation of Stagmouth by April. As one of the most boring title races came to an end, the race for survival heated up. Marcoton, Dragonfield and Griffonham were constantly shifting places.

Division Two

MILTON DOES IT AGAIN...

Division Two accommodated the two extra teams by expanding to 24 teams, meaning four extra matches for every team. Immediately, the teams coming from the top tier became favourites. However, Millborough looked doomed to some as a team, similar to Sunderland in neighbouring in Britain. Stagmouth Rovers was the only one that actually looked capable of going back up by September, with Foxcester and Marcoton losing key players. Milton took over at Wrenbridge Villa, a team which hadn't been in the Prem since 1998. Highpark were loaned youngsters from Academical, as well as handpicking some from the Green Country Academy.
The league got underway in a weirdly standard season - only Wrenbridge, Stagmouth Rovers, Iverfell and Knightsdale reached first during the entire season.
In March, Barnslea announced that due to financing problems, they would step down from Division Two, to League One in the season to come, but would finish the season, playing the remaining matches. At the end of the season, this was to prove a stroke of luck, as Barnslea finished 21st in the table. Balton Rovers were almost safe, but two losses meant they finished 22nd, but a one point deduction meant that the public were in for a playoff, as Swinton and Balton went head to head for the last of chances to stay afloat. The spoils went to the former, when they won 5-2 on aggregate.
Climbing up the table, Swanlea and Foxcester both surprised by having lackluster seasons (18th, 20th). Highpark were overriding with injuries leading to an average season , whilst Knightsdale finished in 10th in a season of rebuilding. And at the top? Well, Wrenbridge were indisputable champions, and although Stagmouth Rovers had been 2nd all season, a draw on the last day put them in third, with Iverfell celebrating promotion. Coincidentally, both managers opened their statements in their post match interviews saying "I can't believe it!".
So, going down, Barnslea, Balton and Millborough, with Wrenbridge Villa and Iverfell going to the Premiership. As consolation, the Golden Rovers get the third SBCC spot.

Updates from the first half of the Premier Division season

Altair
Current Record: 3-6-9, Seventh Place

Altair’s season could not be going much worse. It took five games for Altair to even get their first point, and ten games for Altair to score their first win. Altair find themselves at the bottom of the Premier Division. For what it is worth, they are only three points behind Hibernus, and they finished the first half on what might count as a high note, with three straight draws. If d’Espinueil can land on a starting line-up he’s satisfied with, Altair could at least prevent themselves from relegation.

Hibernus
Current Record: 4-6-8, Sixth Place

Manager Iahan Alphand, Captain Sebastian Collbras, and team Chairman Alain d’Atain-Vile are all consistent in saying that they are “...perfectly satisfied with the performance of Hibernus in the first half.” That’s a direct quote from all three, on three separate occasions. The famous Hibernus Bank tight-lips obviously extend to their football team. A mere three points separates them from a return to A-Division, which must be causing some agita, even if they aren’t going to express it.

Aris
Current Record: 5-5-8, Fifth Place

A Oberour Ar Moro Premier Division team is only as good as their Sweepers. Sweepers are the key players in their defense, their offense, and their scoring. Aris has four Sweepers: Gurgy Measureeur, Olivier Coutela, Tual Roufosse, and Govran Cousteix. All four are having perfectly pedestrians seasons, and thus is Aris having a perfectly pedestrian season. The 34-year old Measureeur, particularly seems to have fallen off a cliff. And yet, Manager Brivel de Ker Massonnet seems determined to keep him on the field. During the second half, de Ker Massonnet will have to start giving their 19-year old reserve Cousteix real minutes to determine if they have a talent, or have to actually dip into the transfer market next year.

Invicta
Current Record: 7-3-8, Fourth Place

After one half of football in the 1750-1751 season, Invicta had four wins and seven losses. After one half of football in the 1751-1752 season, Invicta had won seven and lost eight. It seems that Manager Jan Dujardin is doing his part to improve Invicta. If Invicta can stay in the top half of the table, a hard-earned trip to the Globe Cup will be their reward.

Patrons
Current Record: 6-8-4, Third Place

Eight ties in eighteen games? Gilduin Roux and Patrons are disappointed in their ability to finish off games. They have to be particularly disappointed with two ties against Cyrene Bay. If they could finish one additional goal in both of those games, Patrons is in second and chasing de la Charite. One thing that could make the difference is improving their capacity to capitalize on set pieces. Patrons have scored less goals on set pieces than any other Premier Division team, despite having more opportunities.

Cyrene Bay
Current Record: 9-6-3, Second Place

Cyrene Bay allowed less than one goal per match during the first half, which means their defense had made the step up from 1750-1751 that Manager Kouig Belhumeur had hoped for. However, their offense seems to have stepped back from last season, which is a concern. Cyrene Bay made several changes to their Premier Division best offense. If they can’t rediscover the Cyrene Bay scoring touch, they won’t be repeating as champions.

de la Charite
Current Record: 11-2-5, First Place

Guénael Frarin is as good as advertised, if not better. He just has a knack for scoring, and de la Charite’s offense has the Hornets on top of the table. If there is one thing to criticize, it may be that de la Charite’s other scoring options have not been as effective. Particularly if Striker Mordiern de Vaisseau and Sweeper Audren d'Auray can lift their performances, de la Charite may win the Division in a walk.

Highlights from below the Premier Division
A-Division: Occident were a team on another level in the B-Division last year, and that continues in A-Division. They lead the division at the end of the first half. Ask any Occident player or coach, and they’ll give a lot of credit to 21 year old Lunen Margas, who is in his second season starting at Right Back for the Oxies. Defense can be an afterthought in the Oberour game, but Margas has shown a flair for the role. He rarely puts a foot wrong, and constantly seems to come out of nowhere to take a ball from an unsuspecting opposing player and put his side back on offense.

B-Division: The only impressive thing about Saida Holly right now might be their fans. In a country of increasingly vicious fans, Holly Park must seem like a oasis for opposing teams and fans. Every game has been sold out by a crowd of pleasant fans that seem to be simply happy to be there watching football. Saida is one of the smallest stops in the Football System, and Saida Holly have made sure to give fans a group of local players and coaches to cheer. Will Holly fans sing as loudly if they end up relegated?

C-Division: Let’s be honest, Massalia City and Dacia Textile were both pretty awful in 1570, finishing the year tenth and eleventh respectively. City made wholesale changes of their team during the offseason, and find themselves second. The changes the Scavengers made were less drastic. They added four players with experience from A and B-Division, particularly hometown hero Jildaz Oiseleeur who came in from Sesamos. Dacia Textile have already won as many games in one half of play that they did all last season, and sit in fourth.

Transfer Window Opens Amid League Shakeup

With the kick off of the first season of the reorganized Blaneuan league rapidly closing in on us, the transfer market has started to light up. The transfer market this season is purely domestic as the start of the season hasn't lined up with the international transfer market. This means big names like Ojo Navarro and Aaron Starkey will be gracing the league with their presence for this season, hopefully ensuring a higher standard of play.

The Blaneuan league's standards look set to rise as TV rights get sold off. The sale of TV rights to Blaneuan National Broadcasting was worth $7.2 million alone, with further sales to foreign broadcasters yet to be carried out, and potentially providing a greater source of revenue. Further investment is coming through club's owners, in most cases their fans. Defi Rovers, Bay Road and West Cape Wanderers have all managed to plug their fan-base for significant investment, and the Wanderers have gone even further and have borrowed against expected revenue from prize money and attendance over the season.

The biggest moves have seen national team stars Ojo Navarro and Aaron Starkey making moves to West Cape Wanderers and Defi Rovers respectively, with Navarro setting what is now the transfer record at a $1.9 million valuation. Of the smaller clubs Portside have shed the most talent, losing both Navarro, and the promising 16 year old midfielder Bryn Jenkins.

Whilst many fans will be clamoring for a more balanced league going forward, the trend appears to be towards exacerbating the emerging rift. The primary reason is prize money, worth a total of $3.5 million, a third of it each will be given to the winner of the league, and of the BFA Cup respectively, with bigger shares also going to those finishing in the top half of the league, and semi-finalists in the cup. This appears to be a deliberate policy of the Blaneuan FA in an attempt to improve the national team long term. The logic appears to be that by keeping the number of fixtures down to 22 league ones per season, and a maximum of 5 cups games, players will remain fresh for international duty, and by concentrating talent in a handful of teams, players will both be used to playing each other and not exhausted from playing endless crunch matches. One has to hope that it pays off long term, as fans may begin to grow restless if they have to put up with low-quality, noncompetitive league football in exchange for nothing.

The Squornshelan Confederate Football Association, in light of the nation's reentry to the international footballing community, has seen fit to reconvene organized play of the national football leagues. Squornshelan players and clubs, eager to prove their worth to the selection committee tasked with naming a roster for the upcoming Baptism of Fire Cup, agreed to separate into two leagues, each of which would play a double round robin schedule of 46 matches, after which the top two finishers in League 2 and the bottom two finishers in League 1 would be promoted and relegated. The third and third-from-last respective finishers would contest a two legged home-and-home playoff. Now, without further explication, the SCFA is very pleased to present the results of this re-inaugural season:

Traal Athletics win the SCFA League 1! Much of the season it looked like Molvanians would prevail, as Interblag in particular spent long stretches atop the table, but both they and their rivals from Lublova were eclipsed in the last few weeks of the season by the boys in sky blue and burgundy from the frozen north. It's a dream season for Traal fans, as they not only win the league, but also see their hated rivals Flania Zarss headed for the relegation playoff. Golgafrincham City and UFC Flamarion are relegated to League 2.

Their second half was somewhat less impressive, as Sivolvia Central were able to close to within 5 points with four matches to be played, but the lead they'd built through the first two thirds of the year proved too much to overcome. Dynamo Bardjov qualify for the Relegation/Promotion Playoff against Flania Zarss, narrowly edging out Arkintoofle United and Sporting Jaglan on goal differential.

Ruvian Soccer 5s League

The Ruvian Soccer 5s league is one of the biggest and perhaps most profitable professional sports league in Ru. Founded with 8 teams in 1900 not too long after Ru was introduced to the sport of football. The league has persisted, slowly expanding and becoming more prominent over it's now 107 year history. It now sports 32 teams, superstar athletes signing multi million crown contracts, and with the team values of some of the most prominent ball clubs valuing in the billions of Crowns. The Ruvian version of the game differs from federation football in a great many significant respect, both in it's rules and in it's league structure.

In comparison to federation football, the Ruvian rules game features a smaller version of the football pitch, and each team has only five members on the field at one time (including the goalkeeper, instead of the usual eleven-a-side rule. Teams are also allowed unlimited substitutions, able to bring in players off the bench at any "dead ball" (after a goal, during a timeout, after a foul is called, or at the end of a period or half.) The field is surrounded by a clear barrier to prevent the ball from going out of bounds, and there are no draws: time running out with the score tied will result in a "sudden death" overtime, where the first team to score will be the team that wins. Overall the Ruvian game places an emphasis on constant forward attacking and frantic physical defense. As a natural consequence of the small number of players on the field, games tend to be more high scoring then in international football.

There is only 1 league tier, and therefore no promotion or relegation. Mostly due to team owners' unwillingness to allow a system that results in an inability to guarantee that a team's value, marketability, and media market will remain reasonably consistent for potential buyers. Instead, the league is divided into two geographical conferences of 16 teams, that have 2 divisions of 8 teams each. Seasons last for 62 matches, with each team in the league playing each other twice (1 home, and 1 away). After the conclusion of the regular season, there is a playoff consisting of 12 teams. (the winners of the 4 divisions, and the remaining top 8 teams in the league, based on overall record.)

playoffs: The division winners are granted seeds 1-4 based on record. These seeds are given a first round bye in the playoffs. The remaining 8 "wildcard" teams are seeded based on record and face off in single elimination game with the higher seed hosting. Upon conclusion of this round, the teams are reseeded based on record and paired with the division winners accordingly, playing a single elimination game with the division winners hosting. After this is the semi finals, and then the Commissioner's Cup final match.

The draft: After the season a draft is held for new rookie players. Any domestic or international player under age 19 or lacking at least 3 years of professional experience who wishes to play in the league must register for the draft instead of entering into free agency with the clubs. The draft order is mostly set in reverse order of record, with the teams with the lower win totals having the higher picks. However, due to the nature of the Ruvian version of the game allowing a truly great individual player to dominate the game in a way that simply doesn't occur in sports that allow more players on the field at once, (and the late season almost-intentional losing that this may otherwise cause). A draft lottery is held for the top 4 picks.

Lottery: every non playoff team is entered into a drawing for the top 4 picks. The worse a team's record was, the more chances they will get. (Ex. team with worst record has 25% chance to get the #1 pick, team with 14th worst record is given a less then 1% chance.) once the owners of the top 4 picks are determined, the rest of the picks are given to the remaining teams according to their record as normal.

OOC Note: I am currently interested in corporations and managers from other nations to fill out some of the TBD's under some of those entries. The manager spots are current coaching vacancies, while the stadium spots can be RP'd as having had your company's name for several years already.

Managers: Male and female candidates will be considered. Different teams have different things they are looking for in their next manager and different expectations when it comes to coaching experience. All teams are looking for someone who understands the differences between the Ruvian game, and international football, and is able and willing to coach under the different rules and strategies. If you are interested in a particular vacancy then shoot me a TG and I can provide more detailed information about the type of manager the team is looking for. Managers in the Ruvian league can expect contracts between 2-10 million NSD per year, depending on their experience and reputation. I plan to make a post detailing the 8 or so teams with openings on my own at a later date.

Stadium Naming Rights/Sponsorships: Any team that has "TBD" under the stadium entry is available for a foreign company to buy the stadium name. This league is really huge in Ru and has very good domestic television ratings here. So for companies that are interested in expanding into the Ruvian market, this could be an excellent marketing opportunity to gain widespread exposure. The company name will be the official name of the stadium which will host 31 games a year, not including playoffs, and it will be refered to by that name by Ruvian television and radio announcers during live broadcasts. It's also possible that these stadiums may host international play, concerts, and other events outside of the League. Companies should be major corporations that are big enough to be willing to throw down 1-6 million NSD per year for the naming rights. All 32 teams are league 1 teams, as there is no pro/rel in the Ruvian league.

Season to Kick-Off

The first season of the new Blaneuan League is about to kick-off, and as such predictions are flooding in from sports journalists and fans alike. Betting markets and newspapers seem to have settled largely on West Cape Wanderers as being the most likely to come out on top, their odds are currently around 2 to 1 to take the title. West Cape have made a couple of key acquisitions to put them in such strong standing, bringing in young defenders Elliot Sketty and winger Ojo Navarro. Navarro's transfer is especially promising as he now links with Owain Davis, who he has experience playing with at club level.

Defi Rovers have also been tipped to compete for the title, topping polls of who fans expect to see winning the league. Defi may well take the league with a solid line of three in the middle, with Aaron Starkey, Leslie Driscoll and Dyfed Elron lining up, a combination that may well also be deployed by the national team. Beyond that, they also have one of the best stadiums in Blaneu, the 3,750 capacity 'Cauldron', located by Carnegie Village, its capacity can hold more than three times as many as the village does, fans from all over Defi county are liable to visit, with the stadium able to hold half of them in a small self-contained arena.

Beyond these two, Bay Road FC could well be challenging for the higher spots in the table, with one of the younger sides in the league they could well be building for the future. For the final league Globe Cup spot, however, they will have to see off East Cape FC, the only other team that look like they may be ahead of the pack, with their midfield anchor Caradog Gwent looking like one of the strongest future prospects in Blaneuan football.

Down the table and things start to get muddled, there is very little in quality to separate the sides and it may well be a case that higher quality management and tactics make all of the difference. Pwhelli, Bedha English and Island Blaze FC all look like they could have decent seasons due to the high levels of cohesiveness within the teams. Portside AFC look set to potentially struggle due to the lose of key players Ojo Navarro and Bryn Jenkins to bigger clubs, their replacements are nowhere near as strong, and it may well take some time for the squad to gel. Their is little need for concern, however, as there is no automatic relegation to the regional leagues sat below the top division. Instead, there is re-election to the league, with an incredibly complex system consisting of votes by those in the top division, points accumulated in the league and results in the Blaneuan Island Cup. Concern dips further when looking at the club in lower division, with most being pub or church sides with little interest in applying for promotion.

Five games down and those who are competing for the top-spots have started to take shape. West Cape Wanderers sit on top of the table after an unbeaten start, whilst they are yet to face Defi Rovers in what is likely to be the crunch match of the season they have seen off Mawford United and Bay Road FC to establish their title credentials. East Cape FC have also set themselves up at the top of the table, however most of their points have been gained against teams in the bottom three. Down the table and Defi Rovers, Bedha English and Mawford United are the teams that look to be in contention for a Globe Cup spot, with Bay Road conspicuous by their absence. Defi Rovers especially will be looking to pull back up towards the top two.

Nationalstadion (75,000)

The Nationalstadion, located in downtown Stelburg, seats 75,000 people and is considered the heart of football in Siovanija and Teusland. Originally built 54 years ago by the Erhart Palme architectural firm, it was designed to be a first-class stadium for the nation. It features all black and gold seating, plus a north stand that was designed with the intent of creating an electric atmosphere. Located in downtown Stelburg, the stadium is much like the city, retaining the charm of a past era.

The stadium has played host to several Siovanija and Teusland national football team home matches, and is generally considered the home stadium for the team. In addition to this, the Nationalstadion also plays host to the President’s Cup Semi-Final and Final rounds. It has thus seen such matches as VfL Bamerntal’s historic cup win, Olympia Borograd’s victory over Marzig in extra time, and this season’s incredible display from SW Stahlberg to capture the cup.

Now, the Nationalstadion looks to open its doors to the world by hosting the final of the UICA Globe Cup. The city of Stelburg eagerly awaits the result of the bidding process.

Mareibat Season Three - Preview

The MBC were typically disorganised last season and somehow the Mareibat Premier never occurred. Not to worry, as it returns this year, with Halholzer United once again overwhelming favourites to win yet another title. Bellight FC have added a few additional players to their squad, although the loss of Richard Armada to Valladares will be a big loss for them. They do, however, retain hopes of becoming the second team in the league to be fully professional next season and pip Harmonica Tundra to that in the process. From the rest of the pack, Teol United, Pilgrimage and Cape of Hope FC look the best positioned to nab a Globe Cup place. At the bottom of the table, Halholzer Spitfires continue to look as dreadful as the clubs ability to function properly, even behind traditional minnows Scraglet Rover and Arbour Lights FC.

Bellight F.C 2–0 Halholzer United - Matchday 2
Bellight F.C gain an early advantage over their fierce rivals, Roger O'Connor's United looking a little sluggish starting the season off and Vina O'Hara taking full advantage of that here - even with the loss of their striking talisman, Richard Armada. The first goal is a well struck Studio Marquis strike past Torin Johnstone, who is too slow to react outside her penalty area, before the second is Schottic striker Jan Ümann's first goal at the club - you sense it won't be his last.

Harmonica Tundra 4–1 Sciongrad Rovers - Matchday 6
The Tundra sweep aside a scrappy Sciongrad Rover's side, Hannah Croxton up front being an absolute weapon all match - she has a hat-trick after twenty-six minutes, to the dismay of many Rovers fans inside the small ground just outside Halholzer. Sciongrad do strike back through Donald Arondo after half-time, but a Jack Morriston goal late on confirms what everyone already knew. This result moves Harmonica Tundra up to third, behind Bellight F.C and FC Euclid(!). Halholzer United have had a poor start to the season, and are currently 7th, with Roger O'Connor in hot water at the moment.

Bellight F.C 3–1 Bellight Wanderers - Matchday 16
The Bellight derby is as tempestuous as ever, with the Wanderers in the large number of teams who can generally be described as being "pretty bloody terrible" at the moment. Bellight, however, are on the up, and go into this game somehow seven points ahead of Halholzer United in second - their best shot at a title in quite a while. However, the Wanderers strike first, and early. A player from each side is sent off, first Jacob Ironwald for the Wanderers and then Lenka Skarsgaard for FC. However, with more space to play into with less players on the pitch, Bellight work their magic, and a Geena Opendale double either side of Jan Ümann's goal later, Bellight trot out winners.

Pilgrimage 2–0 Bellight F.C - Matchday 26
Bellight F.C go into the final matchday tied on points with Halholzer United currently in first. In their way stand Pilgrimage, the small team from outer Halholzer who have been transformed under Roy Tobin this season and still have faint hopes of wresting UICA football away from Cape of Hope FC. Bellight start with their usual belligerence, attempting to batter Pilgrimage off the ball. But this is the Mareibat Premier, and there are few experiences as tough as playing away to Scraglet Rovers on their lumpy, muddy pitch on a rainy Saturday evening in front of 200 supporters, so teams tend to get tough. And so it proves, Dean Flint squeezing an opener past Herudden Macklehove in the thirtieth minute before doubling his team's lead seven minutes into the first half. With Halholzer United gliding past FC Euclid 1-0 - the most Halholzer of scorelines - the title is sealed. Back to Halholzer for another season then.

At halfway West Cape look strong, having a five point lead and money in the bank to re-enforce their already strong squad. Other than them, the race for Globe Cup spots remains fairly open, with all bar one side within 10 points. Realistically Bedha English, Bay Road, Mawford and East Cape all look the most likely contenders for the two spots, with Bay Road looking the most likely with their larger budget going into the second half of the season. Besides these sides the main story is Defi Rovers, who have massively undershot expectations and ended up in the wrong end of the league. With a lack of prize money likely to be coming their way, and perhaps missing out on a lucrative TV deal for Globe Cup games, their finances suddenly look perilous. The fan owned club have sacked the chairman and have done some fundraising, the hope being they can secure the decent striker they have as yet been missing to give them a chance in the BFA cup.

Plans, Transfers and Cup Draws Abound at Season Halfway point

Whilst there may be a lack of league football in the mid-season two week break (including a break for two international friendlies), that doesn't mean there hasn't been plenty of action off the pitch.

The first big talking point of the week, one which has set the sports editorials alight, is a plan floated by several clubs (Defi Rovers, Mawford United and Bay Road) to introduce a second division as of the 1988/89 season (so not next season, the one after), this would see the first division shrink down to 10 sides from the current 12, and a division of 8 would be formed below it. Proponents of the plan have argued that it would bring more money into the domestic game with broadcasting rights to the Series B Champions Cup after teams from the second division have qualified for it. It would also give some impetus to teams lower down the table to try and compete, and give them something to play for. This has come off the back of Old Regisonians culling more talented members of their squad, using the reduced wage bill to give more games to current and previous actual students of Merion Regis University College, and allowing them to put profits back into the university itself in a move that has irritated other members of the league.

This plan may not end up seeing the light of day, however. The first issue is the need to come up with 6 more professional clubs, which given the small population of Blaneu may be unsupportable. The lower division, currently with no automatic promotion to the top league, has only a couple of clubs that could realistically be considered for inclusion, Penllech Villagers play at a standard that can compete with teams such as Portside AFC, and Saint Tudwells Islanders would be able to compete against some of the clubs. Other than that plans would have to be sketched out to create another four sides, with few places looking like suitable candidates. The small town of New New Newport is the biggest settlement without its own club, however Mawford United and the Riverside Sports' Club both have a strong fanbase in that town. Other clubs also remain skeptical, Blaneu doesn't have a large population to draw support from and, with TV as poor in terms of programming as it has been post event, a large percentage of the island already attend. Of all the clubs only Defi Rovers and Old Regisonians (due to Student Union subsidized drinks) have sold out all their games, otherwise teams have had a respectable number attend, but not to capacity. If the new division does go ahead, they may well be fishing in a small pool.

The other big news has been the transfer moves that have taken place mid-season, Defi Rovers and West Cape Wanderers have made decent forays into the market, and Old Regisonians have nearly purged their squad of all talent. The biggest move was a surprising one, Rhodri Apnest was flogged off by Old Regisonians and purchased by East Cape FC. As West Cape and Bay Road were both good for wing-forwards-cum-attacking-midfielders he wasn't wanted by them, and the purchase of Gethin Powell had Defi Rovers distracted, East Cape swooped in. This move strengthens their frontline for the time being, and they'll hope it gives their relatively strong team a good shot at a Globe Cup spot.

Elsewhere and West Cape have assembled the strongest squad in the league by far, Bedha Rangers John Ludlow and Portside's Fred Christiansson add to an already strong lineup and fill what were the only two real gaps in talent in the team in midfield and for a Centre-Forward. These moves make it look increasingly likely that the title will be heading to the furthest flung part of the island, along with the lucrative Champion's Cup spot.

Alongside these maneuvers comes the shedding of poorer players to the teams lower down the table. Portside picked up Gavin Hughes from Defi, leaving them without any real marquee players and looking likely to persist with their miserable form. Riverside SC will also struggle going forward as they buy West Cape's second choice keeper Devon Kidd to replace the much more talented Barney Acton who moves to Defi.

The final key point of the mid-season is the cup draw, with 25 teams entering the round look initially awkward. The first thing was to whittle it down to 24, hence bottom two clubs in the amateur league, Cape Quakers United and the Prince of Wales FC (a pub side) will play off a few days before the break ends. Next comes the First Round Proper, with the 12 amateur teams joined by Defi Rovers, Riverside SC, Old Regisonians and Portside AFC in that round, with the remaining pro club going directly into the second round.
