Serbs Lose To Unranked Korva 9-6

Not to say that Korva is a bad team as they've gone on a three game winning streak since losing to Electrum. Depth explained why Electrum faltered from their strong start. Korva and the Serbian Empire may have not been as talented as Electrum, but having the ability to bring in substitutes as to keep the tempo up is vital. Korva's goalkeeping is strong and I'm afraid for Vettrera as Korva's already defeat the number #10 team in the world while Vettrera is #28. Korva's strong enough to knock off anyone who isn't in the top five rankings wise at this point given their hot streak. As for the Serbs, we deal with an old foe in the Royal Kingdom of Quebec at least an old foe in other sports. Either way, they're #18 in the rankings and the strongest team we've faced yet. Fortunately, history has been on our side in most of these matches as does the rankings. There's a seventy percent chance of advancing to the round of eight. If we face Korva again, may luck be with us.

MUSINGS OF AN ARMORED DINNER JACKET
Official blog of Ibrahim Ahmadinejad, Right Fielder of the Verbergerkinnh Cubs and the Abanhfleft Revolution

HO, HO, HO, WE WON AGAINST BRITONISEA!

So my image-hosting site is still down, so that means no pictures while they sort themselves out. Good thing no one uses that site much.

LIVE FROM CHIPPENHAM, THE SARIAN - Really, guys, this is like the eighth lacrosse post in my blog, and yet you're still asking me why I'm putting them up instead of my usual baseball-related drabbles and things. Look, honestly, until Abanhfleft wins the World Lacrosse Championship, or gets eliminated from it, I'll keep on writing about lacrosse, because that was the deal I struck with my girlfriend. I blog about her games, and in exchange, she won't keep me on so tight a leash.

So let's return once again to the past, when I made that daring prediction on Sporters' Night Out that Abanhfleft will lose to The Sarian. I also remember saying that day that Abanhfleft will have good luck in their next game, which is incidentally against Britonisea. Now, Britonisea's ranked 19th in lacrosse. We have no rank. But did that faze our girls in green? No. They went out looking for a win after that expected loss to the host nation, and guess what? They got it!

Let's take a look at the scoresheet. CeCe Cuvimi got 4 goals. Menan A got 3 goals. Fatima the Diaper Girl got 3 goals too, to complete our 10-5 domination of Britonisea. I know that our opponents scored 5 points, but without any roster, I have no idea who the hell scored for them. But who cares about that? We won! And that means we've secured our spot in the round of 16! Another fun thing to know is that we're also on top of Group A, ahead of the host nation! And some people said that we'd finish last...

All right, now onwards to the future. In our first ever foray into the lacrosse Round of 16, we face off against Camerania, yet another unranked team. They've also got no roster, which means that we also have no idea on how to play against them. But when I'm at a loss like that, I go look at their group table. Camerania's placed second in Group B--not surprising, since we're facing them as the numero uno in Group A--but they've also got an inconsistent performance going against them. They've tallied 2 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss. And their goal differential's not looking much better with a negative one. Don't act on my words, but I'd bet on our girls winning against Camerania. But that remains to be seen in the next few days.

So who do you guys think will win? Abanhfleft? Or Camerania? This is the Armored Dinner Jacket saying ciao, peace. Catch you in my next post.

Eagles Beat Second Placers To Stay In First

Itanpavia 6–14 Nassau

After the mentally scarring game against the Paradystopi, the Hessen were comforted to learn that they would play a less sadistic team the very next game. Not only that, but Nassau has also played this team before. Itanpavia, maybe not the best team, but definitely a threat to squads in high risk situations. The Itanpavians, however, were not in for a cake walk in any sense whatsoever.

Once the Nassauites were finally convinced that the monkeys weren't after them, a fairly successful period of warmups proceeded. Once the warmups concluded, it was a short matter of time until the game finally begun. The Eagles burst out of the gates, and made a decent start to the game. It could have been a much better start, the memories of the previous match left the team a tad bit timid. Only one goal was scored in the first part of the first quarter, of which was scored by Anthony B. Reyes who executed a well placed behind-the-head shot. Itanpavia took advantage of the Hessian timidness, and drove in a goal from an offensive rush just past the midway point. After an uneventful set of time, Stewart B. Barrows easily tossed the ball in on a three on one rush just before the end of the first.

The Eagles finally snapped out of their justifiable fear and decided to be a little more daring. The Eagles decided to adapt an offensive strategy coming into the second quarter. The Eagles started out well at first, with Defensemen Leroy G. Holland finding and capitalizing on an open bottom left corner. The Eagles found themselves in a positional disarray shortly after the first goal of the quarter, and before anyone knew it, the game was soon tied at three. Bradley (who was subbing for Allan Bowling this game) was reasonably angry at the chaos that should have been an organIzed defense. After a brief series of see-saw possessions, the Hessen finally recovered and regained their two goal lead from a deke filled scoring drive by Grear and a tic-tac-toe play that Kevin Kibler capped off with a magnificent goal. Itanpavia found their way through the Nassauite defensive line with a decent amount of time left in the half and they didn't waste their following scoring opportunity. An impressive behind-the-net goal was scored with Reyes, soon followed by a last second scoring rush by Kibler made the halftime score seven to four.

The Itanpavians kept surprising the higher ranked Hessians, and found themselves in contention for a large portion of the game. The third quarter was a tough one for the Hessen. The unrelenting Itanpavian lineup caused many problems for Nassau, and before one knew it, Itanpavia came within one through simply outlasting and exhausting the Nassauite defense. The exhaustion produced a couple of capitalized chances in the form of one on nones. The rest of the quarter proved quite difficult for the Eagles, as it took longer than it should have to finally get the ball out of their defensive zone. The Eagles minimized the damage dealt in the third with a low goal dealt by Stephen McGin. After that goal, the rest of the quarter turned out to be scoreless, making the result eight to six in favor of Nassau through three.

Nassau was finally fed up with how mediocrely they played, and decided to put the petal to the metal and take the game. The fourth quarter was a quarter most Itanpavians would love to forget. The Hessen started the fourth strongly with an aggressive attack. The Itanpavians rarely were in their offensive side of the field that quarter. The first few minutes were fairly unsuccessful in terms of goals (especially since they were quite offensive at the moment), the Hessen were only able to get one goal before the halfway point in the quarter. The sole goal in this time was scored by Robert P. Grear through a post-hitting shot. Once there was less than five minutes left, all hell broke loose. All we can confirm from this time is the goal scorers since everything happened at nearly supersonic speed. They were (in no specific order): Romero, Holland, Kibler (2), and Beliveau. The final score read a whopping 14-6 result in favor of the Blue and Gold.

The Eagles continued their way through Group H with a flawless unbeaten record. This would have meant good news had the Paradystopi not advanced, especially with the two loss start. Alas, the monkeys somehow made it through the group stage by some genocidal means, but if they will reface the Hessen, the team will be prepared. One interesting thing that may occur would be a show down between the undefeated. The only other lossless (and tieless team for that matter) squad remaining besides the Hessen is Consumar, who is over in the Sarian side of the tournament. If those two face in the championship and this statement isn't jinxing it, it will be quite a match to watch. For now, however, Nassau will remain in Isbergern to face off against the very closely ranked Darmeni National Team in what is sure to be a well played match.

"We're through?!"
"Apparently so."
"Wow. Not bad for a group of grumpy primates."
"Aye, it's not bad at all."
"So how many more games do they have to get through before they win this thing?"
"Three? I'm not sure really. First we've got Jatchaylter? Jakeltre? ... it begins with a 'J'"
"Jeckland?"
"Nope. Some other nation beginning with 'J'"
"Oh, fair enough. So what's the plan anyway? How do you think we're gonna fare in the knockouts?"
"No idea really, but they've already lost twice in the groups so I can't see them winning it."
"Why not?"
"A bunch of untrained monkeys, against the top lacrosse teams of the multiverse? Yeah right ... Last I checked the bookies had Paradystopia at 1,250 - 1 to win the tournament and 5,500,000 - 1 to win the tournament without fouling any other players."
"Those are some nice odds."
"And the chance of either happening is incredibly remote."
"Yeah, but what if? I wouldn't mind increasing a small bet a thousand fold."
"This is why you're so very poor."

Camerania Advances!

In an astounding comeback, the Cameranian Lacrosse team has surged to second place in their group, allowing them to advance form group play. This is an astounding start for a team that is making their first international appearance. This news has come to the attention of many Cameranians across the nation, who will be excitedly watching from their home and mobile devices to see if their team can win this next match. It seems very unlikely that victory will come, when one considers that only a few days ago, the team was almost at last in their group. Coming this far is still wonderful, and is reminiscent of Camerania's recent debut in the Maple Leaf Bowl, where that team also made it out of group play, but was defeated soon thereafter. Time will tell what's in store for he Cameranian Lacrosse team, and hopefully it's good.

"Right, this'll be a nice surprise for those cheating Hessanians."
"Actuallly, it's ... nevermind ... What do you mean 'nice surprise'?"
"Well, you know that the team beat Jakwotsit or whoever in the round of sixteen?"
"I didn't, but continue."
"Our next opponents are those cheating gits from the group stage who used the tranquilliser gun in a clear display of gamesmanship."
"Ok ... so?"
"So, I've just had the most recent shipment of the tranquilliser dispatched. This time, if the Hessan feel the need to use the gun unlawfully, the targetted gibbon will receive a medium dose of adrenaline, caffeine, cocaine within a shot of one of those horseradish energy drinks."
"That's possibly the most irresponsible thing I've ever heard you say or witness you do."
"Should be pretty epic nonetheless though, right?"
"Naturally ... So, they beat Jachaelter?"
"Yeah. Only six players got horrifically mauled this time."
"Only six? Nice, so they're getting better?"
"It's about average to be honest. One player did end up losing an arm momentarily but hopefully the Vintomter health services can deal with it."
"Is it easy to re-attach an arm?"
"Meh ... dunno. Probably. It was a little chewed in places though ..."
"... nice ..."
"Not really."
"I was being sarcastic."
"Oh, I see."
"Maybe you should actually devise a strategy for the Nassau-Hessan match? Surely that would be better than just watching a chaotic bloodbath of monkey, man and ... lacrosse stick?"
"Strategy?"
"Yeah, tactics? Y'know."
"Oh ... that stuff ... n'ah. That's boring."
"How is that bor..."
"Also, the lacrosse viewing figure are through the roof! People love the crazy monkeys!"
"You're making that up."
"Am not."
"I can't think of a single channel which broadcasts the lacrosse."
"The ... err ... Paradystopi Public Service Lacrosse Channel shows it."
"Who?"
"PPSLC 1 ... It has limited coverage, maybe you don't get it in your area ... "
"We're next-door neighbours, you fool."
"Oh yeah ..."
"But seriously, can't you send someone out there to try and train the team ahead of the quarter-final?"
"N'ah. Hopefully the Nassau-Hessan team will use the gun and our team will subsequently destroy them. It'll be funny and ... err .. revengeful? if that's a word."
"What if, having prior experience of dealing with our team, they equip their team with more substantial body armour and personal dart-guns?"
"I hadn't thought of that. We have to equip our troops."
"Troops? Wait, what ... ?"
"Body-armour, knives, smoke grenades ..."
"This is supposed to be a game of lacrosse, you know?"
"It's beyond that now. Oh, if those cheating Nassaueners want a war, I'll give them a war!"
"I was just suggesting what might happen ..."
"Always be prepared, that's what I always say."
"No, if you had a catchphrase it would surely have to be 'Oh shit, I fucked up again'"
"Oh ye of lyttle fayth."
"You mean 'O ye o'lytel fayeth' right?"
"Whatever. It's not like I voted for the 'newe langwidge'"
"I can't believe anyone voted for you to become foreign minister."
"I'm remarkably charming when I choose to be."
"But completely 'twysted int'th'hede'"
"What?"
"Nevermind ..."

Serbs Make Round Of Eight In Overtime 8-7

The game was tight all long. Ahmed Domi scored half of the Serbian goals including the game winner. This was also a goal keeping gem from Ales Kopitar who stopped 78.8% of shots on goal with 26 saves. I give the MVP to Kopitar for his goalkeeping strength in the game. Next is Vettrera which is ranked lower than Quebec but they beat Korva who defeated us in group play so I have no idea how this game will go.

Game Prediction: Vettrera wins 11-9.

Dyno's Quarterfinals Preview (And Cosumar too!)
submitted by Dynomatic -- August 20, 6:17 p.m.

The field has been whittled down to the eight once again, and I'll post my insight here for all to enjoy or criticize. This year, it's especially exciting because Cosumar is still in it for the second straight time, and playing for a crack at the Championship game. Anyways, brief predictions and analysis for each of the semifinals games tonight can be found below.

[10] The Serbian Empire vs. [28] Vettrera

After a shocking no-show in Anditia, The Serbian Empire is now back and seemingly better than ever despite losing some key players to the Olympics. The WLC 14 Champions are much better than their ranking (10th) lets on, as evidenced by their dominance of Group E. They haven't been in their best form in the last few games (losing to Korva and narrowly squeaking past Quebec), but the Serbs will be too much to handle for an overachieving Vettreran squad. The Serbian Empire, led by Ahmed Domi, scored the second-most goals in the Group Stage behind only us, so look for them to make quick work of Vettrera. Besides, the Vettrerans are likely too distracted by their upcoming hosting of the World Bowl to give their best performance here.
Prediction: The Serbian Empire 16-7 Vettrera

[12] Paradystopia vs. [6] Nassau-Hessen

Like the other quarterfinal fixture in Vintomter, this Group H rematch figures to be a lopsided affair. Nassau-Hessen won their Matchday 2 meeting by a score of 13-5. The eccentric nation of Paradystopia, always full of surprises, sent a giant crate of rabid primates to compete in the tournament. At first, they turned in painfully (literally) miserable performances and were locked into last place. However, these monkeys quickly learned how win lacrosse games while still playing in their violent style, and have won their last three games. These mutant primates' remarkable comeback to make the quarterfinals is something of a furry Cinderella story. It ends here, however. The Nassau-Hessen side, the WLC 18 runners-up, are emerging as one of the finest lacrosse nations in the multiverse after upsetting #5 Darmen in the Round of 16. Allan Bowling is one of the best goalkeepers in the tournament, allowing only 31 goals thus far, one of the best marks among remaining teams. They play the game the right way and won't be bested by inferior creatures.
Prediction: Paradystopia 5-10 Nassau-Hessen

[UR] Abanhfleft vs. [UR] Jecatria

Now THIS is a quarterfinals match-up nobody saw coming. Both nations are completely new to international lacrosse yet managed to win Groups A and B, respectively, despite being unranked. Jecatria was vaguely familiar as being associated with #8 Jeckland, but Abanhfleft - who sent their women's team - was a group that even the most dedicated of WLC connoisseurs dismissed. But this nation with an unpronounceable name (Ah-ban-ha-flet-feff?) shockingly finished ahead of hosts The Sarian and easily disposed of Camerania 22-8 in the first round. In Group B, World #1 Unolia was surprisingly frail and Jecatria benefited from the resulting power vacuum. They seemed like pretenders rather than contenders going into the Ro16, but proved their mettle by knocking off hosts The Sarian with their iron-solid defense. Both Abanhfleft's firey offense and Jecatria's stringent defense are looking really tough right now, so this should be a magnificent game to watch. Look for Menan Alrisheb to lead Abanhfleft into the Semifinals, she is a true world-class star.
Prediction: Abanhfleft 14-13 Jecatria

[11] Patistan vs. [3] Cosumar

Hey look, it's us! As one of only two undefeated teams (the other is Nassau-Hessen), I think it is safe to say that we are the favorites in this rematch against our Group D rivals. Our group phase GD of +29 was the best of any team. Tracy Sheppard is one of the tournament's leading goal-scorers with 26. Our new young talents like Jacques Archambault and Ivar Kalessin have lived up to their predecessors' standards. Though Anditia gave us a run for our money in the first round, it's hard to see the Dragons being challenged by a Patistani side they conquered 12-3 on Matchday 2. Our dominance over them was so thorough last time, and Patistan doesn't have the same level of offensive prowess that Anditia did. They have some good players like Younis-Ul-Haq and especially Shaheer Arain and they are #11 in the world for a reason, so expect them to put up a fight. But ultimately, Patistan's defense is a weakness (42 GA and a -2 GD) and Tracy Sheppard and company are too good not to exploit it.
Prediction: Patistan 8-18 Cosumar

Hrubin injured in practice
submitted by Dynomatic -- August 20, 5:37 p.m.

The Dragons' young starting midfielder Kaspar Hrubin was injured in practice earlier today. The 23-year-old suffered a sprained right ankle after a high-speed collision with fellow midfielder Achmed Dejagah. Hrubin is expected to miss at least the next two matches, but should be available for the WLC Finals, should Cosumar advance that far.

Hrubin played well in the Round of 16 against Anditia, but Coach Duke McDougle is confident that he will be adequately replaced, naming veteran midfielder Skyler Cobb (32) the fill-in starter for tonight's quarterfinals fixture against Patistan. The game will be held at Somerset Stadium in Darwin, The Sarian and can be viewed on CSBN2 at 9 p.m. Cosumar-time.

"So, we're through to the semis?"

"Don't get your hopes up yet, man; it's just the quarterfinals!"

"But I just saw on the Internet that we're facing Jecatria, another unranked team. And since our team's performance against other unrankeds has been very good thus far, I thought that was already a clear shot to the semis..."

"Sometimes, you can just be so naive, man. But the scoreline, though... 22-8! I can't believe it!"

"Yeah, CeCe, Menan, and Fatima's triangle offense absolutely demolished Camerania 6 goals each for the three of them! And who was that midfielder to managed to squeeze in four of her own? Rastobi, I think her name was. I think their players are still trying to get over how they lost to a bunch of women."

"At least it's a bunch of Fleftic women they lost to. Imagine if they lost to the Oontaz women's lacrosse team?"

"Now, that's just downright shameful, like the Mineirazo of this year's soccer world cup."

"Anyway, Jecatria's up next, huh? Who were their star players again?"

"I can't remember, personally. They're all good lacrosse players to me. Then again, I had no idea that lacrosse existed until WLC XIX!"

"If only they can remember to guard Ranjit Singh and Will Groon, they're a shoo-in..."

"Too right, mate. Now hit me with that Tupolev vodka."

Abanhfleft 22
Cuvimi - 6 goals
Alrisheb - 6 goals
Alsambis - 6 goals
Rastobi - 4 goals

Camerania 8
They scored 8 goals, a'ight? No one knows who scored for them. But sure as hell there ain't an own goal here.

Serbs Win 14-10, Semifinals Impending

This has been the strongest run since WLC 15 for the Serbs and the absence last tournament has been productive as the team has lost some components to exhibitions in the Olympiad, but the replacements have been serviceable to say the least. The problem is Paradystopia has blown out Nassau-Hessen 24-12 with a team ranked below the Serbs but not by much. Nassau-Hessen on the other hand was ranked 6th. Certainly a dangerous team that was defeated in the power vacuum the Serbs left behind in WLC 18 but would they have been ranked as highly if the Serbs were present? That question will be answered soon enough.

As for scoring the Serbs were led by Nemanja Dragic's three goals. Other goal scorers included Danilo Goranovic, Patrik Filipovic, Nikola Vukovic, and Besnik Hoxha with two goals each. Nemanja Mladenovic somehow scored a goal from the back lines on some miracle of a shot. Some considerThis is the first goal by a permanent defenseman for the Serbs in several tournaments. Filip and Bozidar Kovac both scored goals themselves to result in the fourteen goal total.

Game Prediction: Paradystopia Wins 18-17

by Abanhfleft
The mood inside the locker room in the stadium was one of celebration, but it was not as celebratory as one would expect for a team that had just secured a spot in the semifinals. Abanhfleft had an easy and expected victory over Jecatria, but now that they were through to the semis, they now saw that the road to the finals was very long, and full of obstacles.

"All right, ladies," Luzviminda Lozima, head coach of the Abanhfleft women's national lacrosse team, said to her players, "that was a very marvelous performance out there. Menan, congratulations once again for being today's player of the game." A loud cheer came from the women as they applauded Menan Alrisheb, team captain and one of Abanhfleft's three undisputed star players. She was also the team's highest goalscorer for this tournament, and she had added six more goals to her already impressive tally.

"Aw, thanks, gaffer," Menan replied. "Of course, I couldn't have done it without all of you gals here!" There was a chorus of "yeahs" from her teammates.

"And let's not forget our other star," Lozima added, "who also scored six goals for the Democratic Republic; our very own baby, Fatima Alsambis, who played on despite being in a sticky and smelly situation." More applause, this time for Fatima Alsambis, who was pulling a pair of jeans over her freshly-changed adult diaper. "And I thought y'all couldn't smell it out in the field," she said. Laughter from her teammates.

"All right, now for the bad news. Cosumar has beaten Patistan in the other quarterfinals here in The Sarian, so that means we'll be facing them in the semifinals."

"So does that mean that it's going to be girls vs. dragons in the semis?" This came from Cecilia "CeCe" Cuvimi, the third starting attacker for Abanhfleft, and the national team's third star player.

"Too right, mate," replied Tim Blyther, the Australian assistant coach in tactics for the Fleftics. "And as if that wasn't enough, The Serbian Empire is facing off against those Paradystopian monkeys in Vintomter."

"Dear God in heaven," CeCe muttered. "So you're telling me that this championship is now going to be between girls, dragons, Serbs, and rabid gibbons?"

"Most definitely, CeCe." This elicited a murmur of discussion from the players, who were now really very unsure of their chances of taking home some silverware.

"Ladies, calm down now," Lozima said, and the chatter died down. "That's still a few more games away, if we make it against Cosumar. We have absolutely no idea if we're going to win against Cosumar, so the question of whether the Serbians or the Paradystopi are going to the finals is not yet very important to us, is it? Now, remember what I taught you: don't focus on the next game; focus on this game. Cosumar is our immediate opponent right now. That's where our focus should be. Now, if we win, all well and good. If we lose, well, it's almost expected anyway. So let's just keep our attention on the job at hand. All right? On three, ladies. One, two, three!"

"Abanhfleft! Vyievra!"
