BoF 37: Nethertopia and Weegies bid

Image
"HEY YOUR MOM IS AN RP BONUS"

Welcome, and thank you for reading this most awesome and superbly likely to win the voting bid for the latest instalment of the Baptism of Fire! Under the banner of Starblaydia's credo Craziness Encouraged, two of the more 'normal' uses decided to go nuts and support a BoF bid. Now, for a bit about our bid:

Image

To celebrate the 50th World Cup Cycle and honour the first NSSports tournaments, we will be returning to tradition and scorinating with dice. Or, if this fails, the bloody entrails of our defeated enemies. Bribes should be given in a plain brown envelope, although golden statues of key members of the WFA and the NeFA will be accepted (Please see Schedule 1 for a list of potential night-time drop-offs for contraband). NB: Dices are bribe-able too, but don't expect too much of that. Teams will be arranged in 20 groups of 1.5 teams each, who will play each other 50 times. Style modifiers range between 1093 and -1093, also known as ultra, ultra, ultra, ultra, ultra, ultra, ultra, ultra, ultra, ultra, ULTRAAAAAAAAA karela.
Due to freak tropical floods, matches in The Weegies will be played underwater. Snorkels will be provided only through appropriate bribes. The Nethertopian side of the tournament shall be hosted in the Nethertopian prison estate, and every loser will be lynched by the prisoners as another form of entertainment. A special betting centre will open for gambling purposes, especially to bet on how many prisoners it will take to lynch an entire football team.
RPing: Godmodding isn't encouraged, it's mandatory. RP's will be punished for coherency and relation to anything else. The mentioning of football will give you a penalty of 6000 RP points.

Image

Our method of selecting group tie-breakers:
1. Most amount of bribes.
2. Nation with the most hottest ladies.
3. Coin flip .
4. If the rare occasion occurs that the coin falls on it's side, maybe something football related, like how many goalies one has in his squad.
5a. in the Weegie divisions, the tie-breaker is the usual pitch battle between drunken, angry spectators. They will be drunk because alcohol is cheap. They will be angry because the half-time pie is not.
5b. Nethie customs are that two of the players' mothers-in-law shall fight until death. With handbags.

Image

The team that wins the tournament shall win the AWESOME TROPHY OF AWESOME AWESOMENESS and shall be delcared AWESOME BAPATISM OF AWESOME FIRE NUMBER AWESOME 36 WINNER OF AWESOMENESS
* The awesome trophy of awesome awesomeness may not actually be as awesome as described
** In fact, it looks pretty much like this: http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/uncyc ... trophy.jpg
*** Which is actually quite awesome, but not as awesome as the name the awesome trophy of awesome awesomeness may suggest.
**** Or actually, maybe just the image is awesome.
***** The image is pretty damn awesome
****** Fapfapfap

No...but astonishingly, the only thing preventing it being considered is that it would involve groups of "1.5 teams", which of course would not be possible.

Is it a serious bid? Smart money points to "aw, hell no!"

Serious part of serious bid!

Overview: The Weegies

The Weegies is a tropical, socialist, federal republic consisting of an archipelago of 12 islands. It has a long colonial heritage, only overcoming the last of that legacy, a racially segregated state, in 1994. Since then, it has transformed from a poor, barely governable backwater, to a reasonably prosperous, sometimes governable state of limited influence. Since 1996, it is no longer advised that you do not drink the water. Crime is virtually unknown, but that is partially because very little is illegal, per se; Saturday nights in the main cities usually result in the kind of freewheeling situations that would bring out riot squads and water cannons in more temperate states, but here are shrugged off by the police as high spirits. The high spirits themselves are available from many and varied brewery collectives, who often use psychotropic ingredients found in the darkest jungles of the islands. Fans of BoF participating nations should note that no official body will be held responsible if they begin to see the Beast with a Thousand Eyes, the Nine-Headed Soul, the Neverwhere Manacles, or any other well known alcohol-induced fever dream.

Thanks to free speech being held sacrosanct, media outlets are many and of innumerable and interminable viewpoints and styles, from the sober Hanover Celdonian Recorder to the plain, factual Weegie Star, to the anarchic, borderline slanderous Get It Up Ye's!, and many assorted television and internet sites. BoF participating teams headed to The Weegies should expect an experience of press treatment and interview similar to having an extremity caught in a drawer. Any team that manages to gravely offend Weegies, god forbid, should probably prepare for a month of being holed up in their hotel room whilst the managerial staff barricade the door and prevent the maids from setting the foyer on fire.

Above everything, however, Weegies adore football. Teams can expect Weegies (assuming no grave offense, of course) to latch onto their teams for support, and make them feel welcome. The Weegie Football Association is currently working with the Federal Council of The Weegies to improve infrastructure to make sure visiting fans enjoy an experience they will never forget.

Stadia

Stadia have been chosen not just for their ability to deal with large numbers of spectators, but also for their geographical location across the length and breadth of The Weegies, enabling fans and players alike to interact with a diverse range of cultures, individuals, cityscapes, and alcohols.

Buchanan Stadium, Buchanan, Weegia (56,231)

This modern stadium is the home of Buchanan L.F.C. and is one of the premier sporting venues in The Weegies. The city of Buchanan, a city which relies on heavy industry, has a long-running rivalry with national capital, Mackintosh.

Canrail Park, Hanover, Stemil (68,234)

Located within the University District, which is home to three of the main universities in The Weegies and thousands upon thousands of students, the ground of Hanover Town has many student supporters, and the local area is both generally cheap and interestingly bohemian.

Big Rig Stadium, Plai-na-laich, Dreich (58,823)

Plai-na-laich sprang up in the wake of the discovery of oil off the coast of Dreich in the 1970's. Literally, since Plai-na-laich is itself a "floating city", made up of connected rigs, reclaimed spaces, and other innovatory uses of old industrial bases. Some have wondered vocally whether having thousands of people on what were sometimes meant to be temporary bases is a wise idea, but the city - so far - has gone from strength to strength.

The Trees, Lylia City, Lylia (67,648)

Peaceful, quiet, tranquil - until there's a game on, this stadium, the stadium of Lylia Foresters, is located outside of Lylia City, the main city on Lylia, the trees grow so tall as to almost swallow the stadium in greenery. Lylia itself is the home of The Distillery, the infamous drinks collective's infamous drinks collective, hidden somewhere in the jungles, headed by the mysterious Sub-Brewmaster Marcos.

Easter Field, Fairwind, Easter House Island (32,149)

A lonely, windswept island, the easternmost point of The Weegies, Easter House Island has a sense of romance about it, especially for football fans, since the Easter House Islanders, with only a tiny population, have managed to stay in the top division in Weegie football since the league began. The town of Fairwind itself plays host to a motley, diverse group of peoples from various nations around the coasts of the Rigan Sea.

The Nest, Teighan, Strammach (48, 592)

The national animal, the fieldain, makes its' home on the island of Strammach, and the Teighan Fieldains have exploited that to the full. Often massive flocks of the small, chattering birds can be seen flying past the stadium in the small port town of Teighan, yammering on to themselves, occassionally divebombing an unlucky bird of prey into submission through strength in numbers and co-operation.

The Dear Green Place, Mackintosh, Weegia (73,211)

The stadium of Mackintosh Thistle Celtic, this handsome stadium was built in an art-deco style back in the 20's, and despite expansion since then has kept the air of times gone by. It is located in the capital city, a smart, sprawling city regarded as the central hub of Weegie culture and entertainment. It will be the stadium that hosts the regional final. The most recent stand is as yet unnamed, only known as The New Stand, was meant to be named after the nickname of the losers of the final of the most recent Series B Champions' Cup if it was to become the venue of the final of that competition. It did not, but now the same offer applies to the losers of the final of the Baptism of Fire, as a small consolation that there shall be a part of The Weegies that forever remembers them.

OOC:

Roleplay Opportunities

The Weegies wishes to be an active host, going beyond scorinating. It is the belief of the player that the role of the host is to provide an environment in which interesting and entertaining stories can be told, and so will provide set-ups for stories and ongoing threads, involving regular themes in Weegie society. The Weegies is also willing to develop storylines with Baptism of Fire teams on a one-to-one basis through telegram and other means.

About the player

The Weegies is a long time competitor in the World Cup and associated competitions, having first taken part in World Cup 7. Qualification for the finals has been sporadic at best, with World Cup 10 and World Cup 23 being the only two cups in which The Weegies have made the finals. The nation has not progressed beyond the group stage of the World Cup, but did reach the final of the very first Cup of Harmony. As such, The Weegies would suggest that his experience of many different World Cup competitions hosted by many different nations has given him some insight into the potential pitfalls of hosting (but then, he would say that). The Weegies' absurdly large league system has also meant that he has made extensive use of NSFootySim.

Whilst The Weegies has never hosted an international football competition on the NS boards, he has hosted the 5th Field Hockey World Cup, and a regional football tournament, the Aperin Cup of Nations.

The Weegies enjoys pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and talking about himself in the 3rd person.
The Weegies is aware of all internet traditions.

Oh noes, more details!

Format:

The format shall be a round-robin group stage followed by an eliminatory knockout stage.

Current sign-ups, taking into account it has been suggested that sign-ups will close soon due to heavy interest, suggest 40 teams will play in the Baptism of Fire. This makes our job easy: 8 groups of 5, with 4 groups scorinated by each nation. Obviously this is subject to the numbers signed up not changing, and will be modified if necessary.

Scorination and Tie-breakers:

The hosts shall use the latest version of NSFootySim, with the standard style modifiers of -3 to +3 being employed. Nethertopia will scorinate at around 2000 GMT; The Weegies will scorinate around 2100 GMT.

Tiebreakers are as follows: goal difference, head-to-head results, goal difference in head-to-head results, goals scored, goals scored in head-to-head results.

RP Bonus

RP bonus will be evaluated each day by the hosts on an admittedly subjective basis, awarding up to 4 points each day on a cumulative basis. By evaluating each day's RP output for each participating nation rather than each RP individually, the hosts believe that this will prevent spaam without unduly penalising those who choose to post multiple, quality RPs in one day.

About Nethertopia:

Nethertopia has previously co-hosted the 36th Baptism of Fire, and the Copa Rushmori. They are generally agreed to be cuter than kittens in a basket.
