(Note: I've edited the spoiler on the roster thread to make talking about the BoF is a no go. I am not going to recognise that as canon just for the sake of my sanity and due to its nature as a one-time-only entry thing that's kind of hard to justify in my head.)

The game started off innocently enough, with the Pasargan team and fans warmly welcoming the first team (us) they were going to beat on the road to World Cup qualification. Les Oiseaux got off to a promising start in the first couple of minutes, even. But things quickly took a turn for the worse when a tackle by Thomas Castille when terribly wrong. With Mezei Orbán down, Castille was quickly issued a yellow just five minutes in and a penalty given to Pasarga. Though it took a while to set up, the seventh minute penalty became the start of a long 90 minutes for the team as Tobias Möller easily put the shot past Gulyèlmo Dessantos, creating a lead that Pasarga would never relinquish. Things only got worse as Orbán shook off his tackle by Castille to score just ten minutes after the penalty to double Pasarga's lead. While Les Oiseaux were able to take the advantage of a longer possession after that goal, they couldn't translate their sole shot into success, as a stonewall Pasargan defence and an excellent save by keeper Raghid Faysal Halabi were able to keep the Islanders scoreless through the first forty-five.

The second half started off even worse as Onésimo Alicea quickly scored in the 49th minute to extend Pasarga's lead. The Pasargans, sure of a win over the Islanders, were thus content to allow Les Oiseaux the bulk of possession, confident that the defensive line could stop Mani de la Cruz and Mikaere Raia and neutralise George Kostas. Les Oiseaux were further set back when Császár Mór took Kostas's leg out from under him. Though it would earn Mór a booking, Kostas was visibly limping, forcing Juan Manuel de Rosas to substitute him for Stéphane Delacroix. The Pasargans were able to bounce back from Mór's yellow card to score a fourth goal, when Orbán claimed a brace in the 76th minute. However, it would not be the end of the Islanders, as an overconfident Pasargan defence and keeper were able to let Mani sneak a goal in for the Islanders in the second minute of injury time, allowing the Islanders to deny Halabi a clean sheet and walk away with a hint of pride after an otherwise dismal match.

so where does that leave us?

Dead f***ing last, I tell ya. Just like I said before.

As the Pasarga-Saint James Islands game was the only decisive one of the day, it puts Pasarga in a safe lead and leaves Les Oiseaux in a pathetic one-man run for last place. We can turn fortunes around with our next game, but that ain't too likely given our next opponents. (We'll get to them in a second.) With a six-way race for second on points, the Islanders can sneak up from behind and make a massive leap on the table with an upset. It won't get us to second, due to the fact that these games are likely going to be far more decisive, but at least we won't be in last anymore. Though notice how we said "upset"...

who's next?
Sandwich Territories is next and this ought to be a clean sheet for their keeper. These people will flatten us and use us as flatbread for one of their delicious eponymous snacks. Like we told you before: give up hope. It's not going to happen. The superior and disciplined team ST has to offer and the home pitch advantage they will enjoy ensures that Les Oiseaux don't have a hope in high heaven of winning. Not to mention the fact that Kostas will likely be unable to play and will need to be replaced with Delacroix or Neama Iokua, neither of whom will be quite so able to deliver victory for the team with the Birds Beak Banner as Kostas is. Again: a win is as likely as our head editor getting struck in the head by a meteorite while picking up a 5000 bob note she found in the deserted, rundown streets of Williamsburg. Victory will not come.

Our Les Oiseaux prediction: Dead f***ing last in the group. Again.

Continued from this post..

Chris Vanderi, Chairman of the Thatian World Cup Committee shouted with rage as the driver of the black SUV sped down the freeway in downtown Frederikstadt, Thatius. Somehow the driver avoided the traffic and with several neat maneuvers, managed to get them clear from the busy roads dispersed throughout the city. The car pulled up to a deserted-looking building on the outskirts of the city, but outside the building, over fifty people were standing waiting to enter. The people outside, well-dressed for this kind of area, anxiously stood waiting for their turn to go inside.

"WHERE IN THE WORLD ARE WE?!" Chris demanded.

"Sir, we have no idea. We were just ordered by the NIA to take you here. We're dropping you off to Director Kyriovic who is waiting outside."

Another man in a black suit and a hideous yellow-green tie approached the van. He motioned for the driver of the car to roll down the window. "Special Agent Ulrosov here with Minister Erikovic and Chairman Valderi. We'll turn them over to you, sir."

The man with the ugly tie nodded and pointed Chris and James over to the desk. "Just wait in line right there, we'll be with you in a moment," the agent said, as the SUV with the two agents who escorted them drove off.

"Where are we?" demanded Chris for the second time. "Do you happen to know who we are?"

"Sir, we are evacuating all high-level officials from the city and the surrounding areas. Everyone important to the nation who is located in Frederikstadt, Frederikshavn, and Belgradija is being sent here and a few other docking centers to be evacuated to other cities. I know you've heard this a lot, but we'll explain later once you get inside."

Chris and James looked at each other and fear registered in their eyes. "What about our families? Why are we being evacuated?! What is going on?"

The agent ignored their questions and headed back inside. Chris and James neared the front of the line and approached the attendant.

"Name and position, please?" she asked.

"Christian Michael Vanderi. Chairman of the Thatian World Cup Committee."

The lady scanned Chris a badge and a ticket to wear around his neck. He looked at what the ticket had to say - "Varael - 18:30 - C2P4". It was that simple, with a small barcode on the bottom.

"What does yours say, James?" asked Chris, as two agents herded them inside.

"Kastos - 19:00 - C1P2. Interesting. Do you think the city listed is where we are going?"

"I think so, but what about the last part?" Chris was destined for Varael, one of Thatius' largest cities, also located in the mountains. James was headed to Kastos, the resort town on the southern coast. The two stood looking at their tickets until an officer approached them.

"Can I see your tickets?"

"Sir, you are headed this way, down those steps," he directed Chris. "As for you, over that way to the left. Your attendants are waiting."

"I guess this is goodbye for now?" asked James. "Give me a call once you make it to Varael. Screw this bureaucracy, I wonder why the heck we haven't gotten any information so far."

"See you later, James. We'll be in touch." The two, never really close friends, parted ways as Chris headed for the steps. He could smell the air, it was somewhat stale, yet smelled like new tires. When Chris reached the bottom of the stairs, a shiny vehicle awaited him. It looked like a subway train, but much sleeker and better designed. None of the compartments were connected as they each stood in their respective docking stations. People milled out and about, seeming to wait for something, or someone. Chris continued walking until he found the officer in charge, a military colonel.

"Can I help you?" asked the officer.

"Chris Vanderi, I was directed down here," Chris said, showing the man his badge.

"Right, you're in car #45," as the colonel scanned the list, "Right towards the end. You'll have a briefing in there as soon as you depart."

"Thanks," Chris mumbled. He recognized several other people in the crowd, including a several senators, a Council member, a few ministers, and other high profile members of the government. He even spotted a couple celebrities, who stood out in the crowd with their weird hair and odd tattoos. Chris boarded Car #45, which was the at least fifteen times the size of a normal SUV, but with no wheels. It stood on the tracks that led off into the distance, and several passengers stood outside waiting. One of them he instantly recognized.

"DAD!" shouted a little girl.

"Jackie!" exclaimed Chris. As soon as the commotion started, Chris' wife, Elena emerged from the car with the rest of the family, including his other two children.

"Chris!" said Elena as she hugged him, "Some men came to our house and told us to pack very fast. We did and were escorted here soon thereafter. Do you know what's going on?"

"ALL ABOARD!" shouted the army officer in charge, who had been overhearing the conversation and realized Chris was the last passenger they had been waiting on. The Vanderi family hopped back on the car with their father as they chatted up a storm. While walking through the spacious cabin, Chris noticed they were not the only family prsenet. Two other families with children were waiting inside, all watching TV, consoling each other, or sleeping. Chris spotted highlights of the World Cup previews on the screens. The Thatian sports networks were running specials on all of the players and were just about to finish up before the Thatians debuted against Evraim in Kristiansond, a few thousand miles from Frederikstadt.

'Thank goodness Kristiansond is so far from here," thought Chris, 'Otherwise we might have had to find a new venue, which would have been a disaster.'

Almost immediately the car started to move along the tracks, jolting everyone for a second. The car sped past what looked to be at least fifty other cars waiting in the main entrance, while also speeding towards the brightly-lit tunnel.

"Welcome, citizens of Thatius," said a random female voice over the loudspeakers. "Please take a seat and we will explain everything."

Vanersholm Daily Post
Battles Continue After World Cup Defeat
By: Sigurd Albrektson

Soon after the defeat for World Cup debutants war continued for the Vanersholmare as the Battle of Kyoto began once again a combination of rebel forces and Kyotoese forces began to lay siege on the city currently controlled by the Royalists. The battle has been brutal as 50,000 people died so far. That's a combined total from civilians and solders and both sides. The next up is a unknown Lleidia. Hopefully we can get our first three points and try to mend hostilities between the multiple factions.

That's all we got in this rushed issue of the Daily Post until next time.

Eels Sluggish in Opening Victory
Turori 2-1 Itanpavia

The Turori Eels had it all set forth in front of them. After a strong group stage performance in the Free Republics, Ematea Saenu's Turori Eels were just a win against Mytannion away from a golden-lined chance to advance to the World Cup Semi Final for the first time in the nations history.

Instead, however, yet another disappointing knockout stage performance saw the Eels crash out early without a proper sniff of the final four. To make matters worse, that target on the horizon - the low ranked hosts from the Free Republics - ran the table in the region to make it all the way to the World Cup Final in Legalese.

To make matters doubly worse, their opponents were the Tropics of Vilita. Turori's long time political ally and sporting rival. Eels fans have long held on to the theory that 'any cup could be their cup' and the knowledge that Vilita's lone World Cup title, earned during World Cup 20 in Starblaydia and Druida, was the only thing truly setting the two nations apart, motivated Eels fans cup after cup. "If we can just win this one, we'll be tied with the Vilitan's" Eels fans would frequently point out. The Eels always had been the more consistent of the two nations in the World Cup Finals, with the Vilitans frequently crashing out in the group stage while the Eels made a historic run of Quarter Final appearances following Vilita's World Cup 20 victory, but never broke in beyond that.

Such was the importance, however, of Turori's failure to take care of Mytannion in the World Cup 68 Round of 16. They let fate slip out of their control and it was only the displaced co-hosts, inexperienced and playing in unfamiliar territory, who stood between the Vilita Jungle Cats and their second World Cup title.

There was no stopping Vilita who took home their second World Cup title smashing the record for the longest drought between two World Cup championships.

It was a collectively bittersweet moment throughout Turori. Many Turorian's had Vilitan family members and more recently the colonial union between the two nations has resulted in a multitude of success in the AOCAF Cup, as well as putting forth one of the top contenders in internationstatal motorsport and topping the medal haul at the Winter Olympics.

But Turorian's have always yearned to prove they could compete with, and beat, the Vilitan's at the World Cup.

Now 2 Cup's down in the tally, the Eels World Cup 69 campaign got off to an unremarkable start with a narrow 2-1 victory over a nation most Turorian citizens couldn't locate on a map. It was a new look for the Eels with G.Q Disterfred II in net and no sign of long time Turoki United and Turori goalkeeper Mumau Atla-Siioai, but performances on the pitch were jut as reserved, leaving Eels fans to wonder how the current crop would fare when tougher opposition such as 5-time World Cup champions Starblaydia came up in the fixture list.

Part One: Little Anna and Father Patrick
Part Two: The Prime Minister and the Reluctant King

Part Three: The Apostate and the Assassin
Parrish’s information had proved invaluable, giving Anna much-needed background on her tormentor, as well as clues as to who else might be able to help resolve the situation. Parrish had given her a list of names of people who either were central in the Cabindan Civil War/Uprising or had likely been involved with Q, given his apparent investment in that nation’s fate. The first on Parrish’s list was the most likely candidate, as military reports from the Uprising had indicated that he had been captured and then released by a General who disappeared immediately afterwards and whose record was never particularly clear, and had been present at the Battle of Sky Fire, when lightning had struck the West Angolan troop carriers, disabling them and allowing the Cabindans a monumental victory. Unfortunately, the man was held in maximum-security custody, having been captured and extracted from Cabinda two days previous, and only an official Royal Order or its equivalent from the Prime Minister could allow him moved without military authorization. With Anna incapacitated, they had been forced to contact Alexi, currently ruling in her stead, for the necessary permission. While Alexi was more than willing to assist his wife, Parrish had been reluctant to involve someone who had no prior experience with Q. As a result, he’d kept the information Alexi was provided with to a minimum, giving him only a personal appeal from his wife of the importance of the situation. Alexi, although curious, gave his assent and issued the required order, and the captive, John Blevit, was ordered to be brought to the Palace to meet the Queen.

Another snag reared its head when Blevit arrived, however. The military, resenting the intrusion on its authority, had ordered an escort to accompany him at all times. The obvious and relatively easy fix to this problem was simply having Alexi dismiss him, but that would raise even more questions, not only with Alexi but also with the military, and Parrish did not discover the escort until he was directly outside the Queen’s chamber. Unwilling to involve Alexi again and sit through a delay while he argued with the escort, Parrish allowed Blevit and his shadow, Colonel David Nichols, to see the Queen.

Blevit’s arrival sent the tension level in the room spiking dramatically, Blevit and Parrish hadn’t spoken in six years, when a chance airline delay caused them to meet while traveling with their respective football teams. Blevit had stormed up to Parrish after spotting him from across the terminal, screaming and calling him a murderer. Blevit’s capture during the initial Cabindan Uprising had been precipitated by a holographic representation of Parrish (provided by Parrish with full knowledge of the military’s intentions) charging with the army towards the Cabindan fortifications. The simulated Parrish had been “shot” and enveloped in smoke, causing Blevit to break from cover and try to help his teammate and friend, allowing him to be easily captured. Blevit had told him that he couldn’t believe Parrish would use their friendship against him like that, and Parrish had responded coldly that Blevit was a traitor and was lucky to be alive at all. The two had been separated by airport security and hadn’t seen each other since, until now.

Their initial interaction was limited to a curt nod and an exchange of names, “John.”

“Luke.” Blevit would have been even further incensed had he known the identity of his escort, but Colonel Nichols’ status as the man who killed Michael Raven and plunged Cabinda to her doom was not publicly known in either country. As it stood, Blevit’s anger was directed overwhelmingly at Parrish, with just a little towards Anna and Garrett, whom he viewed as the architects of his country’s destruction. Blevit had resigned his position as Manager of the Cabindan National Football Team when Defense Minister Hollis had been arrested and returned to his former post as an officer in the Cabindan military, which had placed him on the front line of the Civil War that had torn Cabinda apart. Initially siding with the Minister of Finance, Vernon Choris, Blevit’s leadership had helped the warlord rise to the cusp of complete power, but Choris had underestimated Blevit’s idealism. Ordering his top general to massacre a town under the control of Minister of State Henry Wilson had proved a fatal error, as Blevit and the majority of his forces deserted Choris’ army and he was killed by Wilson’s men a week later.

Officially leaderless, Blevit had become a powerful force in the Civil War. With a large and loyal army of men backing him up, the former West Angolan footballer was one of the most courted men in the country by the various political and military factions, and by allying with one of them he could have determined the next leader of Cabinda in a matter of days. However, Blevit had seen the atrocities his fellow warlords were capable of, and recoiled at the thought of any of them leading his country. Observers in surrounding countries had concluded that Blevit was preparing to set himself up as dictator, but they too were underestimating the strength of his morals, as Blevit used his army as a peacekeeping force, preventing many of the massacres that had characterized the war before his defection.

Unfortunately for him, Blevit’s actions made him a target, not just to the other warlords in Cabinda, who assumed like the foreign observers that he was positioning himself to take power, but also to West Angola. The original plan had been quite simple: assassinate the one man holding Cabinda’s ambitious Ministry in place, watch the country descend into civil war, then invade and occupy with the stated goal of stopping the bloodshed. Blevit was in danger of upsetting that plan, as he stood a very good chance of stopping the bloodshed all on his own, rendering West Angolan involvement unnecessary and removing even the token excuse for the invasion. That and the military threat he presented to an occupying force made Blevit a priority for the invasion army, and as a result a vicious propaganda campaign had been waged against Blevit prior to the invasion to help justify governmental action. Colonel Nichols had been sent in with a team to extract the troublesome gadfly in advance of the invasion. Catching Blevit unawares, Nichols had spirited him back to Namibe, where he had been kept in a maximum-level military prison ever since.

Anna knew Blevit hated her, but she needed to know if he had any information to offer them regarding Q’s level of involvement with the Cabindan Uprising, its government, and the Civil War. “Mr. Blevit, I’m aware that there is no one in this room you wish to spend any amount of time with, and that for many of us the feeling is likely mutual.” Ignoring Parrish’s curt nod, she continued, “But the fate of this nation and yours has been thrown into doubt by a supernatural being with his own agenda. You are here because Luke believes you may have met him before, and as such can provide further insight into how we can pacify him. I ask your help not only for our sake, but also for yours, as he made it very clear to me that Cabinda’s destiny is also at stake. His name is Q, do you know of him?”

She knew in an instant that he did from the way his eyebrows shot up, and he nearly spoke before slamming his mouth shut and turning to look at Nichols. “I might, can we lose the goon first?”

Nichols spoke for the first time, “I am here under the orders of General de Sousa, which can only be countermanded by the Monarch or the Prime Minister, neither of which is present since the Queen is physically incapable, and I must remain with the prisoner at all times when he is outside Fort Blyr Military Detention Facility.”

Garrett, incensed at the man’s arrogance, tried to rise, but fell back into his wheelchair in a coughing fit. As Parrish moved to help him, Anna looked back at Blevit, “It appears we cannot, Mr. Blevit. Will you fill us in anyway?”

Blevit was silent for a long moment, weighing his dislike for all those present against the danger he knew Q presented, given his power and penchant for chaos. In the end, he elected to share what he knew, if only to speed his exit. “Alright. I’ve only met him once, on the night of the final battle of the Uprising.”

“Where the lightning struck the troop carriers?”

“Yes, he came to visit me after I was captured, took me…somewhere, I’m not sure where, I floated, and we discussed Cabinda and the military situation.”

Parrish broke in, “Was it yellow? The place he took you.”

Blevit ignored him, “He offered me a choice: abandon Cabinda to be defeated by your army, or return and die with them. I refused to leave my countrymen to be slaughtered, and he told me I’d impressed him with my nerve, and that he would help us. The next thing I knew I was back at the clearing where the previous two battles had been fought, and lightning was annihilating your troop carriers. I can only conclude that Q was the cause of the lightning, and that he opted to support Cabinda in that instance.”

Anna nodded, while Blevit’s interaction had been limited, nothing compared to Parrish’s eighteen-month jaunt through time, when he’d found himself swapped with Peter Sien, West Angola’s first King, but it provided key insight into Q’s motivations. “Thank you, Mr. Blevit, you have been most helpful. I realize that you would rather not be here, and thus I thank you again for putting aside your personal disagreements with us. I would like you to stay and help us further, but I will not force you to, will you remain?”

Blevit frowned, considering, then slowly nodded. Behind him, Nichols opened his mouth to protest, but Anna raised a hand to silence him, “My husband will see to it that your orders are adjusted, Colonel. Now, Mr. Blevit, let’s see how well you get along with our next visitor…”

From the Desk of Lord Almighty Gregory

To: Feministvs Sanctvsterra
CC: Apoxian government

Dear Feminstvs Sanctvsterra leaders,

First of all, congratulations on your well-earned 2-0 win over the Gregoryisgodistan Foot Slaves in World Cup Qualifying tonight. Your victory was well-deserved. You played better out there than our boys, and you deserve credit for the win. You should be very proud of yourselves. Now, I shall turn my attention to the main point of this letter. It is my understanding that you have recently applied to the Apoxian government for an injunction to let you serve as the legitimate Saintland soccer team. I am writing to express my utmost support for this injunction. The Saintland national team represents everything that is wrong with the Sanctii nation. Their captain is a Royal Prince, the Clown Prince of Saintland as I shall call him. He is a Clown. And not a funny Clown. A stupid clown who thinks it is acceptable to beat women and enslave them. Gender discrimination is not acceptable in the world of sports or anywhere else. More importantly, refusing to show up for a sporting event due to political reasons is inappropriate as well as in violation of the World Cup Constitution. Had you not shown up for this game, I would have asked the World Cup Committee to expel the Saintland Federation, banning them from the rest of this World Cup and all future ones. Due to your arrival at 617 Stadium at the last minute, this makes you the new legitimate Saintland soccer team. The original Saintland soccer team lost its spot at this World Cup by attempting to forfeit the match in violation of the Constitution. Therefore, the team that did show up, namely Feminstvs Sanctvsterra, must be allowed to continue as the true Saintland national team.

Despite having only 1 shot on target, 3 red cards, one player arrested for assault, and being away form home in Darmen's largest stadium, Ditka was able to draw 0-0 with Darmen thanks to the coaching of our great leader The Great Ditka. Ditka's offense didn't even exist the full 90 minutes, the defense played like a bunch of 5 year olds; but goalie Cassius Ditka had an outstanding 15 saves during the game.

Although the whole game was pretty one sided, Ditka had only one incredible shot on target at the 90th minute to almost complete the game. It started at the other side of the field, where midfielder Gene Turko of Darmen took a corner on the left side of the field. The ball ended up being headed by captain Tor Tong Lee right into Cassius's hands. Because all the players were in the box for the corner, there were no defenders to cover Ezio Ditka on the fast break. Cassius kicked the ball to Ezio where he ran all the way to Darmen's box. From there, it was 1-on-1 with the goalie. Unfortunately, Ezio's shot hit the top right corner and the refs called the game.

After the refs called the game, forward Kapil Ditka beat up the ref, claiming there was time left. Kapil was escorted by security and is back in prison for assault. Kapil was originally in prison for assaulting his best friend before the world cup. His replacement will be Ainsley Ditka, who doesn't know what fouls are in soccer.

Will Ditka be as violent as this game? Probably considering all the players are prisoners and haven't finished their sentence. The next game will be back home verses Queer Poco el Mono Era.

Disqualified from Next Game

LD: Heiner Ditka #6: Red Card
LMF: Viriato Ditka #7: Red Card
RMF: Kory Ditka #9: Red Card
RF: Kapil Ditka #10: Assault on Referee

Moran Calls Latest Qualifier "Disgraceful"

Hayden Landers, Nova Anglican Football Today

There was a lot of optimism, perhaps undeservedly so, surrounding the Nova Anglicana Lions' upcoming matchup with the New Montreal States at Kelly Park in Londinium. The States were considered by the rankings system to be nearly twice as good as our boys, but with the recent leakiness in defense they showed at home against Nexxus Drako, the prevailing thought was that the Lions would manage at least a draw. After all, essentially the same team that held Eura to a draw away in the last qualifiers could surely handle a New Montreal States team that nobody was paying attention to and that no one even knew the names of.

Those hopes were to be sorely dashed. Despite the unknown status of the NMS players, the Lions struggled to get anything going. They consistently gave the ball away on the attack or appeared content to build up possession time by passing it back and forth among the midfield and backs. Fortunately for the Lions, the States were equally dismal. They were consistently stifled in the midfield and resorted to playing long balls over the top to their forwards, something that Carbone and the fullbacks were equal to every time. In fact, the two sides combined for just four shots in the first half, none of them on goal. Both teams were roundly booed as they entered the locker rooms at half, and the fans had a right to complain.

In an attempt to inject some life into the Lions, manager Patrick Moran subbed steady veteran Alex Robinson off at the half for the young, dynamic, Emmanuel Moga. It would be Moga's first appearance in a World Cup Qualifier (his first cap had come in the Star United States friendly), and Moran hoped his aggressiveness, creativity and speed could compensate for the loss of Robinson's composure and set-piece ability. It was a bit of a gamble, but Moran had to do something to give the fans the impression he was actually trying to win the match, and Robinson had looked a little sluggish in the first half. Moga immediately made an impact, making a daring run down the middle and blasting a shot at the keeper after a give-and-go with Baptiste, but the goalie deflected it over the bar and the ensuing corner came to nothing. The fans roared with each move by Moga, but eventually Moran and Phillip Castillo had to rein him in, as he was playing increasingly out of position and destabilizing the formation.

Barrett Brandt was brought on in the 79th minute for Salomon Balderas and a chance at a set-piece goal off of a header, in the latest attempt by Moran to search for the winning goal. He came to nothing, and five minutes later, young Jimmy Kelly came on to replace a flagging Baptiste and wear out the tired New Montreal States defenders. All four midfielders, Kelly and Brandt pressed forward, and in the 89th minute, disaster struck. The States fended off the attack and started on the counter in what was easily their best offensive of the day. From just outside the box, one of the forwards launched a shot that looked like Neal had a good chance of saving, but by chance, the ball hit the leg of Terrence Jordan and caromed away from the diving Neal to roll into the back of the net. 1-0 New Montreal States. The stadium fell silent and largely remained that way until the final whistle blew. There were scattered boos and objects thrown onto the field, but the atmosphere was one of shock and despair.

The Lions had lost a game they had so much hope for, in excruciating fashion against a team where not even the foreign media (of the handful present) could name so much as one player. In his postgame press conference, Lions manager Patrick Moran called his side's effort "disgraceful."

"I'd like to apologize, on behalf of the entire team, for this disgraceful performance. I feel terrible for all the fans that came out and supported us so well today only to be disappointed. We did not perform up to the high standard we hold ourselves to and we look to completely turn this around when we visit Nexxus Drako."

Calling the game "disgraceful" is perhaps a bit strong, as a 1-0 loss to the 44th-ranked team in the multiverse is nothing to be ashamed of. However, the Lions certainly looked sloppy, played poorly, and couldn't find a single goal even though Moran made three changes in search of that goal. They will certainly need a better effort against Nexxus Drako in their next qualifier. The Dracons are 1-1-0, having drawn New Montreal States 4-4 and defeated minnows Azrea 3-2. Their attack is certainly something to watch out for, but the Lions will be more concerned with playing their own game and purging the memory of this one from their minds.

OOC Edit: This was published before I was aware of NMS' roster posting, so assume that the roster was not ICly released in time for the game.

Science or Fiction
Part 3

Z-Day +1

Stephan Fuentes had had little sleep last night. In his phone call with the VPD Chief of Police, things had gone a little strange. The CoP had sounded nervous, something Stephan had never heard before. The CoP told him that more of the attacks were occurring and that it most definitely was not just gang violence. He said there was some kind of muscle disease in the victims that had "awoken" from death. Even when the bodies were killed again, their muscles kept on twitching, hours after death. Most of the people thought they were going nuts, relayed the CoP. "Call me crazy, but this seems like a neural disease that turns a person rabid or something. My best guess that it is some kind of insane version of hydrophobia. Maybe the people are so sick that their vital signs go down to the point were medics think they are dead. Then when the people come back, they're rabid."

The following day, Stephan had traveled down to Villitova to investigate. The Agency of Disease Prevention was also down there too. They were just as baffled as the Chief of Police was. "As of now, our best inference comes to the conclusion that the attacks are not due to gang violence, but to a rare form of hydrophobia. If you see anyone acting strangely and have an acute fear of liquids, please report this to the VPD." That was the official statement for the day. This did little to solve Stephan's questions. If it was hydrophobia, why would the victims specifically attack humans? Usually, victims just go insane, not necessarily hunt for people. Over the night and into the morning, there had been 43 attacks, an astounding number. For all of them, 11 bodies had been recovered, all dead, and all had stayed dead. 16 had been pronounced dead but later came back, all had been killed by workers acting in defense. That left 11 missing, another fact that sent chills down Stephan's spine.

Suddenly, more news came in. An ambulance carrying a victim had veered off a street and had come to a stop on the sidewalk. When bystanders opened the doors to try to help, they were attacked by three "hydrophobic" people. A policeman on patrol then intervened but succumbed to the group. Then, the group of around 9 attackers now had walked into a hotel and claimed more victims. The SWAT had been called in and now had the area surrounded. Screams were heard from within the building, but none of the officers wanted to go in. At the same time, there were more attacks in broad daylight in the middle of the streets. Panic was beginning to sweep across Villitova as videos showing the brutality of the attackers were surfacing on the internet. Many people were trying to evacuate the city. The National Guard was mobilized and quarantine stationed were set up along the roads. The soldiers looked for signs of hydrophobia before the people left. However, that night, many people ran from the city by foot and didn't take the roads. At the time all the roads were clogged clear back to the city. The situation seemed to get worse and worse as more SWAT teams were called up to surround an area.

Ekoz 3-5 SJG, Second win in the row.

SJG yesterday its first road game in this edition of the WC 69 Qualifiers, this time it was a game against Ekoz, a rival which their players, their stadium and even their headquarters and the capital is known for to play, to Nevertheless selecting SJG reached the capital of Ekoz, where in effect played a hot and hard-fought match to SJG where Ekoz put enough resistance to the defense of SJG, while our defense was not a good match with later, in order to get a good SJG managed two goals difference and get the three points in the win over Ekoz and their fans.

A group of 3,720 fans traveled to SJG's capital city Ekoz Carnise, located off the coast of that nation, SJG fans were few but as usual they were very noisy always carried their drums, drums, trumpets and flares to give good support to the national seleccón, which is concentrated in a localized alongside the stadium where they were visited by fans of SJG, and even shared moments together as lunches or training sessions hotel. Meanwhile in the next Ekoz, 47.0000 fans to the national stadium, sheltered under security measures because it has recently occurred in this nation terrorist attacks came,

As for strategy plans interviewed Rodolfo Zelaya, the captain of the national team SJG, who told us details about the atmosphere in the team.

"Good morning Rudolph, you could talk a little about the generalities of the national team?" Asked James Cross, Lourdes Amador assistant while she adjusted her recorder for the interview.

"Sure, I'm ready for any kind of questions you realizen, provided that is not transmitted to rival" Zelaya said with laughter at this.

"Do not worry, I want to ask you how you feel about the national team after the game against SJG Miley World?" James said, laughing Rodolfo and Lourdes.

"Look, we feel good because we learned to defend our home court in the appropriate way and also learned to solve a game in sections was complicated by the admirable tenacity of our opponents, plus our coach is happy with the fact along the game, "Zelaya said concisely.

"Personally, as you think you feel the team for the game now?" James said.

"The game will now be interesting also that Ekoz will be a good challenge for us because despite being a new team, he has enough to give a good fight in the game, but I think SJG also has what it takes to win, are optimistic and believe that victory will be ours "Zelaya said optimistically.

At that moment I walked the halls Mathias Paatelainen, so they decided to approach a conversation with him about the strategy that SJG will use in the game.

"Dear manager, as you are?" James said as he gave a handshake.

"Good friend, I guess you would ask about the alignment to use, is not it?" Paatelainen said smiling as she greeted James.

"You guessed it, that's just what you wanted to ask," replied James.

"So, let's proceed. My plan is to much pressure the opponent, trying to score as many goals as possible in the party and thereby facilitate our advantage in the ability to attack and goal difference too. Also keep the typical 3-1-3-3 to keep equipment stable, the same three up front but will replace it at half-time for the match against Free Republics is our priority at this time, the same defenders and midfielders them in short we want to ensure they get good for the game against FFR "Paatelainen said quickly, as she said good"

After hearing the idea SJG game, listen Ekoz plans, in which will use a 5-3-2 in order to maintain a constant pressure in attack SJG, especially with a stepped pressure on Rodolfo Zelaya, the main Ekoz threat also to seek the use of the kickback and maintain a secure defense of the party at all times.

After previous formal events, the party started with possession of the ball by Ekoz, who made some good plays first five minutes of constant pressure, its most talented midfielder made a recovery ball to a weak Árbol Saucedo really could have avoided this situation in a better way, a move that led to a withering backlash Ekoz, striker made a shot at goal from Henry Hernandez, who could not stop that shot and Ekoz went ahead 1-0 at the minute Four game.

SJG was uncomfortable after that goal looked and pressure was increasing on the computer, so Paatelainen Mathias asked his pupils to conduct a more offensive game, something that began to effect a quick pass in the middle of the defense, where Jonathan Fana controlled the ball and finished the goal, where the local team goalie stopped the ball properly and prevented more danger from SJG, who looked very rushed by scoring early.

After about ten minutes of hurry to SJG, Jonathan Fana made a solo run towards goal of Ekoz, giving a pass to Rodolfo Zelaya, who finished without waiting on goal and scored the 1-1 for SJG fifteen minutes into match, a goal converted through a pretty powerful shot in front of the penalty spot, a goal that peace returned to SJG after that early goal that yr.

SJG continued with ball possession but Ekoz not want to give up so early on a stretch of the game, so kept trying energetically through powerful towards the goal of Henry Hernandez, who reacted properly and throws away any chance of danger of his goal, while in times of pressure Ekoz, SJG managed a free throw in front of the goal of Ekoz, a player of the team received a yellow card because I Realize obstruction Sebastian Nunez. Rodolfo Zelaya took the ball and decided not to shoot on goal as it normally does, but it decided to make a team move which gave the pass to Sean Fraser who ran legitimate position and finished so strong Ekoz's goal, the shot bounced the crossbar but Leonidas Bregoo reacted properly placed the ball into the goal of Ekoz twenty minutes into the match, SJG recovered in good shape and placed at the front with the score 1-2 in their favor, which gave more confidence and quietness in the team if we refer to ppsicologico aspect of the players.

Already in twenty-five minutes from the party, SJG still ahead of goals scored but not so as to opportunities generated because Ekoz was visibly superior in creating opportunities and shots on goal from Henry Hernandez, who had already acted five shots, while the home team goalkeeper had received only three shots on goal, two of which were goals so our national team showed much more effectively when attacking. Ekoz had 47% of possession while SJG had the remaining 53%, something encouraging considering the bad start of the national team and in addition to its excellent wake up in the game, as he recovered in a timely manner and managed to keep maintain a marker disadvantage.

SJG beginning to show more relaxed about the attack, so he decided to let the momentum of the first 25 minutes and decided to concentrate on the ball, so they began to make a game of touch between players, although still generating opportunities as Sean Fraser's header after a cross from Sebastian Nunez, Fraser sent the ball outside the field, so the move did not come over. While Ekoz decided to continue betting on the counterattack of their forwards, who have good speed in his legs.

Thirty-six of the match minutes, Ekoz had a new opportunity, this once a counterattack right sector, added to the ball centered at the area was nervousness in the defense of SJG as Henry Hernandez was alone with two players, but a very good read close by Hernández made this stop the danger through a sweep, which sent the ball off the court. Ekoz midfielder gave a pass to another player who decided prover a long distance shot that bounced off the head of this sought Meyson Salume while to clear the ball but instead of clearing it, gave him the necessary path to send it in from the goal, Ekoz making the game and beat back resistance Hernández, this thirty-seven minutes into the game. Ekoz tied the game with a 2-2, returning some pressure to perform SJG needed another goal to avoid a tie in the first half.

Just as the first half ended, a great genius of Jonathan Fana made this dribleara two ivales defenses then give a pass to Rodolfo Zelaya, who was alone and topping to pleasure the goal the home team, made SJG I achieved take the lead in minute 45 +3, Zelaya left without opportunities to Ekoz goalkeeper and put SJG with 2-3 leaving some cheer while a bitter taste for Paatelainen Mathias, who would make no movement at halftime .

Sean Fraser gave us a few words about what you think of the game:

"The game is much more at odds than we imagined, is very even in terms of goals scored and sincerely persistence and tenacity Ekoz left me surprised because we did the expected, and hopefully we manage to get in even more advantage and maintain win for us.

At halftime, backstage of Ekoz, shout for joy, where were very pleased with the marker were heard, but his coach wanted even more so she decided to make two substitutions midfielders and conducted a more offensive team, now with a 4-2-4 where the intentions of the coach for giving respear showed its territory through a more incisive and dangerous for the defense of SJG attack.

While Mathias Paatelainen decided by Emanuel Inzer manteined no substitutions team SJG, but asked the players to be more cautious about the defense, because errors of the three defenses, added by the virtues of players Ekoz had SJG managed to keep a short distance in the score of the game, while maintaining the same forcefulness asked the three front because they were doing a good game in terms of their effectiveness.

Already at the beginning of the second half, SJG began more prsión in the game because according to the statements given by the coach Mathias Paatelainen his intention will be to attack and score as many goals as possible for the benefit of the team, in addition to greater difference in bookmark. Rudy Valencia player was now a greater influence in terms of creating timely plays, as driving the rhythm of the game and decided to keep the game as while Rodolfo Zelaya and company hoped to have an opportunity to make more goals in the game.

Forty-nine minutes, SJG gave the first notice of their intentions for the second time through a shooting happened not far from the goal, after Leonidas Bregoo tried to surprise the defense and especially the goalkeeper Ekoz because the goalkeeper was far from the goal and would have little chance to stop the shot but unfortunately this was not adequate and would be in favor of clearance Ekoz.

Both teams were involved in the struggle for the ball in the middle ampo then, the encounters were somewhat constant, so the game was turning into a very physical and strategic game where only the parejidad may break with a solo run some player of the two teams. Ekoz perked kickback in a play, where the main player made a centering pass and another player arrived in time for a header that beat Henry Hernandez, Ekoz tied the game 3-3 with no imagined by fans Ekoz, who saw the hopes for victory increased strongly, while SJG had to think about how to resolve the situation properly without falling into despair, all occurría sixty-two minutes of the game.

Wow that at that moment we could you appreciate a Paatelainen extremely concerned about the situation, pushing players to react and write down more goals and so secure the victory for SJG, would need to arrive in good physical and mental state for the next match against Free Republics, which would be tense and crucial for both teams.

SJG seemed to be reacting sixty seven minutes, Jonathan Fana took a pass focused and was able to make a header that went out from the field, unfortunately Faña is not very high and therefore his head and his passing game is nothing good, but at least gave it a good try for the interests of our national team. Later, in seventy-two minutes, Rodolfo Zelaya brought out his good technical skills and a solo run where he dribbled two players defending Ekoz, gave free panorama for Zelaya to finish off in powerfully and middle distance a shot that left goalkeeper Ekoz defeated, Zelaya showed his agility and scored the 3-4 for SJG, who much relieved after that move by Rodolfo Zelaya showed.

Already in seventy-five minutes, missing only fifteen to the final whistle, SJG I was ahead of the game but Ekoz looked to be a team that no one would beat very easily, Ekoz had made eight shots on goal and scored three goals save a percentage of 40%, despite having a wide difference SJG, that 40% of possession had been well managed because of the goals he had scored until this point. SJG by his side had only made seven shots to the opponent's goal, of which four were goals thus maintaining a good percentage of ball possession in their favor.

Finally SJG scored the defining goal in the 87th minute through Rodolfo Zelaya, who took advantage of new technical skills and beat Ekoz's goal to make the score 3-5 in favor of SJG and thus saving a match very even, now the players think about the game against FFR.

SJG vs Free Republics, time for the showdown.

SJG will play tomorrow in the third match of the group stage of the WC Group Stage to some rookie called minnows Free Republics, in what will be the toughest in the group 8 match because both teams are in contention for fight during all the WCQ direct access to the WC Finals phase round, so it will be important to both teams, who will fight to the last breath to win at showdown tomorrow in Vladivostok-Alianza.

As for the tactical aspects, Mathias Paatelainen talked to coach the national team of SJG, who gave us details about the game.

"What do you think about the game tomorrow?" Lourdes asked in a curious way.

"It will certainly play very morbid, fans will have a particular grudge against Rule Theriault, I include myself personally, because it is simply ridiculous person inciting hatred in a sport where there should be brotherhood and friendship, nothing hatred "expressed Paatelainen.

"You greet Theriault?" Lourdes asked.

"If I could, give him a slap instead of greeting, but I'm going to say hello as they should, because I do not lose my work ethic to people without thinking or logical basis inelectual whose coefficient is below average SJG, which is a much more cultured nation Free Republics, according to I have observed "

"How to play the game?" Lourdes said.

"Of equal terms, without fear, considering it is a rival with little status and prestige, but we know play with humility and without belittling them, because that would be a mistake for us to belittle the opponent, even pity others of us" said Paatelainen in a critical bawdy ..

"Are you planning to make a change in the team?" Lourdes asked.

"Definitely do not change players, I play the same, but back to 3-1-3-3, which has given us great results, and now we need to beat the opponent and skip round dies six, hopefully God will help in this mission will be tough. " Expressed Paatelainen to end the interview.

Meanwhile on the side of Free Reublics, we learned that Rule "Minnow" Theriault play a tactic of attack, looking to get a good result against the national team of SJG, the use 4-3-3 as preliminary sources taking Kyle Bolton as its maximum reference in the attack, which also include Theriault said "We will win easily" so he is visibly upbeat, and now is the time to return to reality and to overcome once and for all.

Fans are angry.

Meanwhile on the side of the fans, rumors have emerged that SJG Ultras, the collective group of radical fans SJG national team plans a "visit" to Rule Theriault and make the "eat his words were" actions through fear as vandalism, something permitted under the laws of SJG, in addition there have been rumors of a plan for possible sequestration Rule Theriault and all his team to instill "respect" for fans of Free Republics, as cataloged by the Football Federation of SJG as reprehensible and shameful attitude they are asking fans to refrain from such behavior.

The game has been very controversial, we invite you to tune into this match on the television channel twelve SJG at 3:30 PM, fully live from Vladivostok-Alianza

After the bellowing of Surgentem in Horizontem and E Mare Libertas ceased in the Parc na Saiorse in Port Trádáil, the two sides took to the field in what everyone presumed would be a walkover for the Sandwich Territories. With Kostas out from the game against Pasarga and Dessantos ill with flight sickness, things looked bleak for Les Oiseaux. Yet, the overconfidence of the Sandwichians would be their undoing. For the first half at least. Les Oiseaux quickly got hold of the ball and were able to hold off Sandwich efforts to get it back, allowing Uniti Takatori's Mikaere Raia to claim an early lead for the Saint James Islands with a 14th minute goal. The Sandwich Territories fought back though and tied the game with a goal by Alexander Wolff just six minutes later, before doubling their score in the 34th thanks for Finnán Pavia. A rough tackle against Victor Mason went unpunished by the referee, allowing Adam Sergeant to continue unimpeded, while Mason would have to be taken off in the 39th minute for Jimmy Kendal, but not before Kai Eko would be booked by the referee for tripping Sergeant in retaliation in a sign of things to come. Luckily, Les Oiseaux were able to end the first forty-five on a high note with a 42nd minute goal from Raia, leaving the scored tied at 2-2 and the Sandwichian crowd stunned and nervous about a potential second tie or even a first loss at the hands of the Islanders. Yet their fears were never meant to be.

The second half marked the beginning of the end, as the Sandwichians rallied and Les Oiseaux melted down and a series of unfortunate events unfolded that would mark a dark day in Saint Jamesian footballing history. Just three minutes into the second half, Thomas Castille, who had already been booked in the game against Pasarga, was sent off after tripping the Sandwichian striker and clubbing him over the head with his foot. Now a man down, the Islanders quickly had more shame added to the heap when keeper Marcos Llosa argued with the referee over Castille's dismissal, earning a yellow card himself. The Sandwichians used the opportunity to take Seargeant off for Tristan de Klerk, fearing more retribution from an astonishingly poor-formed Saint Jamesian team, and quickly took advantage of Les Oiseaux's diminished midfield to take the lead again on a 53rd minute goal from Brady Slezak. Juan Manuel de Rosas quickly used the opportunity to take Angelo Zapatero out of the midfield and put Mikara Uira on defence in his place, but Uira was unable to get in position fast enough, allowing Pavia to secure a brace and double the Sandwichian lead in the 55th minute. Another goal by Barukh Kjeldsen in the 62nd was the last straw, with Les Oiseaux desperate to mitigate a three-goal deficit. Choosing to place resources up front, a tired Louis-Pierre Matignon was taken off in place of forward Neama Iokua, while the Sandwichians put on Arsène Santana in place of an also-tired Seung Riese. But nonetheless, the Sandwichians continued to dominate the possession game, rarely letting the ball go into the Saint Jamesian half. The move would ultimately end up backfiring when Wolff became the third person to take a brace in the 75th minute just before knocking his head as an infuriating joke to the Islanders and being taken off for débutante Derry Wilbur. And while the Sandwichian crowd and team cheered with their first win and everything to be happy for, there were no happy endings for the Islanders this time, now seven goals down with no points in the group.

so where does that leave us?
group 10 pld w d l gf ga gd pts
1 pasarga 2 2 0 0 8 3 +5 6

7 nouvel ecosse 2 0 1 1 6 8 −2 1
8 saint james islands 2 0 0 2 3 10 −7 0 - our incompetent hides

I'll give you three guesses. And that's generous, because you'll probably need only a third of them to figure it out.

Three teams have one loss. Four teams have none. We are the only ones with two. Not a damned win to our names and ten goals through the net. We might as well be tissue paper for how well we're playing. That national shame puts the team in an absolutely terrible position moving forward. We'll need a miracle strait from God himself if we want to get off the bottom of the table now. Lucky for us, God himself may have just heard our prayers. Our next opponent...

who's next?
...is none other than second-to-last Nouvel Ecosse. And lucky Les Oiseaux, they'll be playing at the Arena la Rouge. This is something we might be able to look forward to, given how poorly their team is doing. With just one point in the group and eight goals conceded, second to only us, these people are people we can beat. We can't get too confident though, but home pitch advantage and a poor opponent will likely play right into Les Oiseaux's hands. While the odds that Les Oiseaux will lose are far better than our head editor simply being struck anywhere by a meteorite, Nouvel Ecosse might as well be tissue paper for the performance they're putting up. This might be a good one for us.

Our Les Oiseaux prediction: A small, but much heralded climb off the bottom.

“I still can’t believe the Prime Minister made such a decision.”

“Neither can I.”

As the two Ministers sat in the Royal Box, Tor Tong Lee tried a shot with his left foot, only to watch it sail wide right. As the Ditka goalkeeper set up for the goal kick, the two Ministers turned to see the Prime Minister walking towards them. He sat between them.

“So Minister,” started the one to his left, “why exactly did you make your decision?”

“Because Alfredo is like a...” the crowd erupted in cheers as Nur al Din Lambert intercepted a pass and started a counter attack with a quick pass to Tor Tong Lee, “up my...” once again the crowd grew louder as Bryan Faulkner dribbled past a tiered Ditkan defender.

“I heard that,” said Alfredo Albaladejo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Relations, who was sitting a few rows behind the Prime Minister, alone.

“Of course you did,” retorted the Prime Minister, sneering at the man who was supposed to be working for him, but lately had seemed to be more occupied with pursuing his own agenda.

“So who is going to be your...” asked the Minister sitting on the right of the Prime Minister, before the end of his question was drowned out by 85,000 All Green fans. They were cheering Darmen’s first goal of the match, as Roberto Gregio had made a spectacular run through Ditka’s back line and gotten on the end of a Tor Tong Lee pass.

But Gregio was offsides. Balls.

* * *

Things had certainly not gone to plan. Darmen had tied with lowly Ditka 0-0, one of Ditka’s players had beaten up the Referee, security had been slow to respond, but the IG-2 made up for it by putting the Ditkan forward through a short but painful interrogation process before releasing him, and now Tor Tong Lee was to be inducted into the World Cup Hall of Fame.

He didn’t look as happy about it as would be expected. And who could blame him. He had played the most outstanding of matches, letting shot after shot fly off of his right foot, his left foot, his head, and even one off of his chest. And his passing had been great too, with the Gregio no-goal being a likely candidate for play of the match if only it had counted.

But all of that meant nothing. Darmen was lagging behind Valladares, Furellum and Sameba in fourth place, with a road match against Bonticello up next.

As the Prime Minister introduced the Darmeni Captain to the crowd, even though such an introduction was rather pointless, Lee stood motionless a few steps away from the stairs that led to the platform placed at midfield.

He stared at a single blade of grass, as it gently danced from side to side in the light evening breeze, wondering if anyone had asked the blade of grass if it was okay with being painted white.

His attention soon shifted to the Prime Minister, after Turko had gently pushed him towards the steps that led to the platform. He climbed those steps slowly, wondering if anyone had asked them if they were okay with being stepped on.

He extended a hand towards the Prime Minister, smiling meekly. The Prime Minister caught him off guard with a handshake that put an indecent amount of pressure on Lee’s hand. Lee grimaced in pain, and the Prime Minister quickly let go, looking as sorry as he possibly could. For a politician that was extremely tough to do.

Lee was then handed a plaque by the Minister of Sports, Georges Thomas, Lee’s former coach with the All Greens. The handshake with Thomas was much gentler, the former coach showing that he hadn’t forgotten his former captain.

With a little encouragement from Thomas, as well as another of Lee’s former coaches, Timothy O’Donahaue, who was now the President of the Darmeni Soccer Federation, Lee turned towards the crowd to make his acceptance speech.

“Thanks.”

One word. One very simple word, and yet is said all that needed to said. It was the one and only word that truly described Tor Tong Lee, and it sent the crowd into a frenzy.

And yet, as Tor Tong Lee left the stage, he wondered. He wondered why. Why had no one asked him whether he was okay with being inducted into the Hall of Fame?

And then he remember. That golf game in May, at the Royal Golf Club in Liverpool, in which he had beaten Bryan Faulkner by two strokes to win his spot in the World Cup Hall of Fame. Why hadn’t Lee asked himself that question? Why?

von Kriesler denies Team is in “Panic Mode”, saying “We’re fine”

William von Kriesler, Manager of the All Greens, has denied that his team has entered a “Panic Mode” following another disappointing draw, this time a scoreless one against Ditka.

“We’re certainly not where we wanted to be at this point,” said von Kriesler, as he defended himself and his coaching staff from an influx in criticism, “but it’s not like we’ve eliminated ourselves from contention completely. We’ve got 12 games to make a comeback, and everybody else has 12 games to screw things up.”

“Our defense has been just fine in the first two games,” commented von Kriesler, “its been our offense who have struggled. Particularly Faulkner and Gregio up top. I can’t wait for them to turn it around.” von Kriesler may be optimistic for the future, but many aren’t.

Several so called “football experts” have called for Darmeni Soccer Federation President Timothy O’Donahaue to replace von Kriesler. While O’Donahaue has not responded yet, it is generally assumed that O’Donahaue is very much against replacing the national team’s manager at any time prior to the end of a competition.

Darmen has an away match against Bonticello tomorrow, before qualifying will take a short break. During that break, Darmen will travel to fellow Commonwealth country Naitpyge for a friendly. The opponent was originally planned to be Earo, but with the situation in Esportiva deteriorating at a rapid pace, the opponent was changed to Naitpyge.

The All Greens will need to turn things around in those two matches as they’ll then have to face Valladares in what could likely be a group deciding fixture. That fixture will be the only one not played at the Net Natinalen Stadin, as Kalenda Stadium in Rogerton will place host to the match. The decision to play in Rogerton, only 35 kilometers from the Darmeni-Valladares border, was made by the DSF so as to ease the amount of travel needed for Valladar fans to watch the match. In addition, the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration has decided to end the practice of completely dismantling all vehicles crossing the border, as well as easing many of its other regulations on travellers in anticipation of the match. Even the IG-2 will have a more limited role, as travellers crossing the Darmeni-Valladares border, or arriving on flights from Valladares, will no longer be shadowed by IG-2 agents. Instead, the IG-2 will simply monitor things from afar, and only those IG-2 agents not normally assigned to shadow foreigners will be present in standard security roles.

Melody:
Hello, welcome to another episode of Sex In Jeruselem.
I'm the host Princess Melody Song Dallas.
Today is the one you've been waiting for - SEX TOYS!
We'll be discussing sex toys for both male and females, and even have some demonstrations.
This means it's for not the kids ... well, depends who's kids you're talking about anyway.
Today's show does have nudity and ... people doing rude things so if you don't want know, just go watch bible studies or something else now.
Also we'll be talking about the future of sex toys and the new high tech ones which could come along to excite your world.
I know you Jeru FC boys will be watching so keep ya hands to yourself.
Our first guest is Elaine Beach, owner of a sex store with ... well ... everything a perv would want.

Elaine: Good day to all out there
Melody: Your store sells well, a lot of sex toys
Elaine: Pretty much most of the store is sex toys
Melody: No videos or movies
Elaine: In these days of Internet downloads, you just download that now.
Melody: What's the biggest sellers in the store?

Elaine: There's always the traditional favourites, like Dildos for example. The girls love those
Melody: What about the guys, what are they after?
Elaine: We do get less guys buying stuff because they don't want to be seen in there actually but those dolls are the biggest thing
Melody: What's the number one doll?
Elaine: It's the Dazza Dallas doll, which pretty much looks like ... well, you
Melody: What about bondage stuff, how does that sell?

Elaine: Less popular, it does attract a special breed of person but it's good money
Melody: I hear you have an armed guard now
Elaine: Yes, unfortunately some think I should be out of business and want to shut down my place
Melody: But people buy your stuff
Elaine: Exactly
Melody: Do you find your work immoral?

Elaine: No, I'm here to sell stuff to make people happy. They don't have buy it, it's not like food
Melody: How is business?
Elaine: It's great, very busy.
Melody: So what do you think do the business is doing well?
Elaine: I guess people need something a bit more exciting. And having too many babies is expensive too.
Melody: So what have you brought along today?

Elaine: A new product, I think folks will love it
Melody: What is it?
Elaine: It's called the Princess Pumpkin
Melody: From ... err ... Cinderalla
Elaine: It's a super-dildo
Melody: It's pretty big, not your average vegetable

Elaine: It's been selling well, but don't leave in the kitchen. People might think you're weird
Melody: Pretty impressive piece of girl kit I must say
Elaine: Vegetables seem to be in thing these days

Fire Ants Earn First Victory of Qualifiers

It was a team effort in the end that allowed the Antoletian team to prove victors in their battle with Cobana. In the first home game of the season in the Queen Kaitlyn Stadion the Fire Ants scored a lone goal and played incredible defense throughout to win all the spoils on the day. All three points stayed home with the Ants after the 90 minutes of play. It was a rather unusual event as the Ants managed to win the game mostly due to their defense, that in the first game seemed rather holed, but in the second game proved rather able. Overall the change had a lot to do with getting their first game jitters out of the way, and possibly an even smaller team than their first opponents coming at them on the other side of the field.

It was an early goal that ultimately gave the Ants they only advantage they would need for the 90 minutes. The stadium was rocking on a corner kick when striker Anton Gregovich rose above all of the Cobanan defenders and popped a ball past the dazzled goalie and gave the Ants a goal 11 minutes into the game. The rest really was a test in the ability of the defense, and the defense proved rather able. The young defenders, and their young goalie went through a few trials through the next 80 minutes, but ultimately they were able to keep the clean sheet and provide themselves a pick me up after the first game let down.

World Cup 69: Miley World wins 2-0!

After losing 3-2 against San Jose Guayabal, the Smilers were back in Miley World to play against Czarch at Estadio Azteca in Zacatlan, Tennessee, Miley World in front of 52 000 spectators. 2 200 fans from Czarch travelled to Miley World for this game.

Miley World had a good chance to score early in the game, at the 4th minute but Grégory Dedieu's shot hitted the crossbar and Czarch counter attacked. Player #10 shoots but Dodô makes the save! Miley World had another good scoring chance at the 14th minute when Conor Downing makes a cross to Ashley Johnstone but Goalkeeper #1 makes the save! The smilers attacked again at the 29th minute, but Grégory Dedieu's shot hits Player #3's leg and the ball goes wide left. Jorge Garcia takes the corner, he kicks the ball in front of the net and Léo hits the ball with his head and the ball goes into the net. 1-0 for Miley World! Czarch thought they tied the game at he 41st minute when Player #11 scored but the referree disallowed the goal because Player #11 was offside, so the score was still 1-0 for Miley World at the halftime.

Miley World's coach Paul Evans made a change before the 2nd half starts, Felipe Vazquez came in and Fabrice Durand went to sit on the bench. Miley World attacked at the 51st minute but Goalkeeper #1 blocked Vladimir's shot. Czarch had another good scoring chance at the 67th minute but Dodô blocked Player #8's shot. Czarch attacked again at the 73rd minute but Player #11's shot was wide left. Dodô kicked the ball in Czarch territory and Léo passed the ball to Ross Wallace who passed to Vladimir. Vladimir made a cross to Ashley Johnstone, he shoots and he scores! 2-0 for Miley World at the 74th minute. At the 79th minute the ball went out of bounds and coach Paul Evans made another change. Ashley Johnstone left the field and was replaced by Ramon, a defenseman. Coach Evans also changed his formation to a 4-5-1. This change may have paid off because at the 88th minute, Player #7's shot was blocked by Ramon. The final score was 2-0 for Miley World.

In the group 8, Free republics beat Hutt River 3-1 and San Jose Guayabal won 5-3 against Ekoz. San Jose Guayabal have allowed 5 goals in two games against two of the worst countries, Miley World and Ekoz but they're in 1st place tied with Free Republics and The Sarian. In the group 19, Feminstvs Sanctvsterra won 2-0 against Gregoryisgodistan. Many Miley fans supports Feminstvs Sanctvsterra and doesn't likes the misogynist government of Saintland. A lot of Smilers even think Saintland is worst than Gregoryisgodistan.

Purple Knights Win Road Opener

After getting the result they needed at home in the Atlantea Coliseum against Osarius the Purple Knights of Taeshan went on the road and defeated their opponents from Monkeykind in the way they should have, with a score of 1-0. It was not the fanciest of wins for the men in purple and green, who were for the first time wearing their new camo uniforms made by Kirola Sportswear of Audioslavia, nor was it the best attacking game for the team, but in the end it was enough for the boys to get the result they needed.

Once again it was a battle of two strong willed defenses, much like the first game of the year for the Knights. In the end of this game however, only one team was able to keep their clean sheet for the full 90. Luckily for the few fans that traveled all the way to watch their Knights in Monkeykind, it was Joe Jackson and his back for that won the day. Funnily enough the unheralded new center back duo has proved rather good in their first few games under the pressure of real games, after not doing so hot in the friendlies. But the fire does reveal the best in some players. Ultimately it was the Captain Tyler Pantoum who proved to be the player of the day though, providing the afternoon's lone goal as he powered home a volley in the 21st minute to give the Knights the win.

The Life of Estope Soccer Manager, Bucky Freezus

World Cup Qualifiers - Match Two
Estope - Barunia
United Stadium
Porthaven, Barunia

Day Before the Match
"Everyone, where we are headed is a lot different than where we come from. This nation is made up of a bunch left wing communists. At no point should you make contact with them, they might infect you. Because I don't like to associate with foreigners much, especially such radicals, We are flying over for the game and coming straight back. We will not spend the night, nor have any free time to wander around. The plan is to land at the airport, get in our chartered bus and head straight to the stadium. Then immediately after the game we will head straight back. Unfortunately we have no ice cream for after the match, but my wife did bring some other snacks so don't worry too much. She also packed peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for everyone to have for lunch, after all I don't want to spend any money supporting this evil empire. Also, just in case we get separated, I made matching bright yellow t-shirts with a picture of a squirrel kicking a soccer ball on it."

---
5:00 am. Day of Travel
"Good morning everyone. I see you're all wearing you're t-shirts. You all look very nice. I brought some donuts for breakfast so everyone go ahead and have some. We got a long flight ahead of us so get comfortable. We'll get a movie going shortly. Never mind, I got a better idea. We're going to play duck, duck, goose. It's mandatory team fun. It might be a little challenging in a plane but I think we can make it work. This plane is pretty big. We'll sit in the middle seats and run in a circle in the outer two aisles."

---
Arrival at Stadium
"Would you believe it? It looked mostly like a normal country from the bus windows on the ride over but don't let that fool you. They are just putting on a show for us. Everyone gather around. We are entering a hostile environment. Very few, if any, Estope fans will be here. Let's just score a bunch of goals, get the win, and get out of here. Oh and if anyone is tired I have these energy drinks to help keep your energy up."

First Half
"Remember the plan everyone. Just kick it forward and try and score... Come on it's been like 12 minutes, just score already, it can't be that hard!...Finally, thank you Milo. Great job everyone!..Well this is boring, good thing I brought sudoku. Hmm 2 there means this must be a 7, wait not an 8, there is a 7 down there...Ok good the whistle. What's the score I wonder? Ahh still 1-0. At least we're up."

---
Halftime
"Ok job out there. Only one goal is disappointing but at least we're on top. I read somewhere that oranges are good at half time so I had my wife pack some for everyone. Eat up, these are healthy so it should be ok. For the second half though, since we are up now, I'm thinking we will play reverse, a 9-0-1. All forwards are to make a line across the goal and block anything from going in. Pate will stand in front of them since he can use his hands and if he catches it he can just kick it as far as he can. We're up now so we just can't let them score."

---
Second Half
"We're looking pretty good out there. They're getting a lot of shot but our wall is impenetrable. I think we got this game in the bag. Hey Coach O, do you want to play Battleship? I brought the game."

"Sure, that sure beats watching the game...B7"

"Hit. Wait what just happened in the game? The ref is blowing his whistle. A red card on Barria! What!"

"Looks like a hand ball is what he called."

"This is not good. A penalty kick. Let's see, 90-88=2, and with only 2 minutes left! Great they scored. Everyone! Back to the usual formation! Go get one more goal!..A draw, of all results! How horrible! We had that game too. Let's see, next week we're at home again. That's always good and against an easy team too."

To: Eric Fahrenheit, President of The Arceusian Republic of the Northern Sunrise Islands; Kurt Nachreich, President of The Republik of Rüntenbach
From: Lazzaro Passerini, Generalissimo of The Nationalist Republic of Felix
RE: Possible War
Encryption: HIGH

Greetings from Santa Maria. I regret to inform you that there has been some events that have forced my hand into possibly declaring war on your nations. To be frank and honest I really don't want war with you guys. Our nations have all ways been united in friendship and peace and I feel like declaring war on them would be terrible for all of us. I am hoping you two could please figure out a way to talk to Lex and convince him that you are sorry for whatever you have done. I really respect your nations especially yours Mr. Nachreich. Anyways, war with you two would be the last thing I would want to do, but if you don't do this for me I will have no choice but to declare war. May I hope we never meet each other in the battlefield

CORVIDAE COMMUNICATIONS
From the Circle, Centre of Operations of the Corvidae Collective

Nations of the multiverse, and everyone that inhabits them,

We of the Corvidae Collective share a united disgust for nations that feel that they are entitled to "help" or "liberate" people of other nations when they cannot see the full version of events. In many scenarios, the liberators are doing a disservice to those in the affected areas, displacing them from their homes or stirring up drama which can be detrimental to their development. We also share a united disdain for nations that don't recognise the sovereignty of all the nations within the Corvidae Collective, including those that have not quite ascended yet. We believe that denying these parties control over their regional, or national, governments, by banning them from operation, is an affront to the democratic process which we all hold dear.

Because of our views, we see some nations as the main operatives in denying Corvidae from achieving it's goals. These nations, and the leaders of them, are attempting to strangle progress, in order to keep a hold on their dying careers and ensure that they retain control in their minor spheres of influence. While negotiations have been attempted to de-escalate the inevitable conflict, it seems that they will not listen to reason and submit themselves to the Collective. It is for these reasons that the Collective, effective immediately, is now at a state of war with the nations of Rüntenbach, San José Guayabal, and the Collective Sunrise Islands. Nationals from these nations are now considered enemies of the state in every Corvidae Nation, and must be deported immediately to prevent possible attacks. Trades between these nations and nations of the Corvidae Collective are immediately cancelled, and any attempts to infiltrate our borders will be seen as an act of aggression, and will be dealt with in kind. Any other nations or sub-national entities who claim to ally themselves with this "Anti-Corvidae Alliance" will also be considered enemies of the state, and will be dealt with in an identical manner to those in the aforementioned nations.

You have made the mistake of throwing obstacles to progress for the last time.

The Sunrisian President opened both letters up on the main screen of the Planning Room of the President's Building of Northern Sunrise Islands on front of dozens of heads of all different sections of Northern Sunrise Islands' defense, including the three heads of state of the other Sunrise Islands, President Frederica Laguna of the Southern Sunrise Islands, Queen Mizzeline II of the Western Sunrise Islands and President Jubilaw Edmonton from the Eastern Sunrise Islands.

"Oh, for crying the hell out loud! They found out!" said Queen Mizzeline, worried about the possible repercussions of the Corvidae putting a bounty on their heads. "We need a plan!". Eric smiled, pressing a button that would open a garage door on front of an open pavillion that could be seen from the room, before reaching up for a microphone. The presidents and the ministers were obviously confused, but decided to flat out watch it.

"First, our back-up protection, The Chosen One!" A boy walked out from the garage door, followed by an Arceus. He was decked exactly like the classic hero, Red from Pallet, as if it was some sort of symbology. "Wait, Arceus? The myth-" retorted Frederica, before being stopped by Eric. "Yes. The legends were true. The Chosen One, whose name we're not revealing has already contacted all of the known legendaries and is already working on the defensive block tactic. This brings up the second half of protection. The Green Shirts." A group of green shirted Pokémon trainers, followed by Chanseys arrived on the same pavillion, with a happy look on their faces. "We plan to keep them as assistance around all Sunrise Islands." They would be quickly followed by blue shirted trainers with other Pokémon. "The Blue Shirts will be the back line of our offense. Which sums up our less offensive units."

They would all leave the pavillion, leaving the heads to discuss. "So... this is our defense..." said Frederica. "A bit weak.". Eric laughed, sitting on a chair. "Hah. The best defense is offense. Bring the best ones!" The garage wall opened, revealing a strange group of misfits, almost a copy of the old legends of the Arceusian Republic's vast culture. Maniacal murderers driving menacing cars, known as the High Octane Division; the remains of the legendary warriors of the Edenias, known as the Legion of the Edenias; Gangsters decked in Purple, the classic Saints making a comeback and beings with frozen arms, making weaponry out of ice, the Ice Fist Clan. A nerd's favorite line of attackers, the Arceusians' best.

"This still doesn't look too dangerous." said Jubilaw, adjusting his suit. "Don't you have anything remaining?". Eric shrugged, calm. "We were trying these ones on prisons, but... well, bring the Ace." A pale male with a black and blue hood appeared behind all of the people on the pavillion, smiling, before changing his arm into a missile launcher. "These folks are patriotic men and women that accepted the treatment into becoming living, breathing weapons. We were trying to use this early on to solve illnesses, but the whole Corvidae issue stopped us back in the day. Turns out we will get to use it now. And the best part?". The Ace smiled, quickly turning into another person, a prison member who had been just given the info to morph into. "It can disguise itself." "But what if it turns against us?" asked the president of Eastern Sunrise Islands. "We already agreed on giving him a place to live with his family." said Eric, calm.

AN OFFICIAL DECLARATION FROM NORTHERN SUNRISE ISLANDS

We didn't want to get to this point. You could've ignored us and let us live on our own while you beheaded each other like armed chicken. But well, it seems that some people still think they are on the top of the world because someone else bought up their fascist crap and because we don't like it, we have to deal with it. So what do they do? They add business barrages. They send our people back. They prepare for war. Well, I'm going to tell you something, Crowley. There ain't gonna be no crows to save your ass. You had your time to mess around with the other folks, but try to piss off the Sunrise? Try to piss off someone you don't know how they work? We thought moving here would keep your eyes focused there and we wouldn't have done a damn. But I think doing a damn is something you wanted all along. And we will do a damn.

And from this day forward, we're going to make a point. A point that we're not ones to mess with. That nobody on the Multiverse should even think of messing up with us. For your own good. And if anyone, I repeat, anyone, wants to play smart and attack us while we focus on sending the crows to the buzzards, we're just going to take what we already have here and bury you to the ground. And that's the bottom line, 'cause Fahrenheit said so.

Glass Shatters. Fahrenheit hurts people.
Tails... Watch out, you're gonna crash, aaaaah!

Previously....

Spiritair Flight 277, 430km from El Roblar

Around the same time, there were two other aircrafts on the air corridor that the Aeroquebec Flight 69 was in. One was Communist Airlines Flight 666, from El Roblar to Munchewald, which was flying right above the very doomed flight, 35,000 feet high from the sea level. The other was another flight flown by a Quebecois airline, but originated from Yzerberg, Vaugania, in what was a 12 hour and 40 minute long flight. A Boeing 777-200ER was flying the route, and like its fellow plane not far away from it, was packed with passengers. 265 passengers and 20 flight attendants were on board on that flight.

Captain Alain Chavez, a 62-year old Captain who’s been in the airline for 32 years, was flying the plane with his first officer, Hugo Kastarisis. The 37-year old was on his first flight with the Boeing 777-200ER (which was allocated to the airline temporarily, while Yzerberg’s still waiting for additional 340-600s to be transferred from politics-hit Fontvieille hub. He certainly was no stranger to flying though, have been flying 737s and 787s with the airline for past 12 years.

Seeing the very 777 not so far away from him anymore, he opened his mic. Surprisingly, Captain Goldberg opened his mouth before Chavez did, causing latter to be slightly surprised when he heard the medium-pitch voice of the former.
“Good evening Spiritair 277. Aeroquebec 69 at 350. What are you doing?” Captain Goldberg’s voice was heard from the mic, as the relief crew of Spiritair Flight 69 was flying right next to it, only 3 kilometres from the Airbus A340-600.

“C’est excellent. Merci, David.” Captain Alain Chavez responded to the message, as he was looking over the window, the plane right next to him, “It’s been a fairly eventful flight so far. Taking off from Yzerberg took longer than usual due to thunderstorm in the area, which was weird.”

“Haha, Indeed.” His fellow pilot responded with relative ease in his voice, as the planes, for the time being, were safely cruising along the mountains of Northwestern San Jose Guayabal. They still had around 2 hours before landing at San Salvador, where the weather's been great. A huge contrast from Kingston or Yzerberg, both of them in middle of rainstorm, indeed. It looked to be another normal day of flight, with sun shining over them as they flew....

Then, out of sudden, the adjacent aircraft banked hard to the right and slowly glided down, as if the plane was out of control. Something, out of sudden, must have went wrong with its throttles, most from the flight 277 realized, as they saw the plane getting out of the sky. Something must have happened to Aeroquebec 69, all out of nowhere, while in mid-air. Whether that's due to a sudden dislocation of cords necessary for hydraulics, a mechanical problem or bombing in the cargo hold resulting in first scenario, it certainly looked like an emergency situation.

"Spiritair 277, El Roblar. Aeroquebec 69's in middle of emergency." First officer Kastarisis quickly notified the local ATC through the mic of the news, solidifying the sudden crisis that struck the A340-600.

......

Aeroquebec Flight 69, 412km from El Roblar

The bomb, planted by the 2 FIA operatives from the Sangti International Airport, exploded right in the back of the cargo hull. Despite its sheer size, it exploded enough to pass on the spark to the other luggage and cargo located within, penetrating the aircraft's tail section structure in numerous places, including the horizontal stabilizer. This fragmentation sliced the lines of all four hydraulic systems of the plane, resulting in rapid, mass draining of the hydraulic liquid from the plane.
Additionally, some of the sparks and fire resulted from it, have spread on to the other cargo and luggage. Unfortunately large number of them were electronics and other extremely dangerous products that were among the most difficult things to handle by airport cargo handlers. This led to a medium-sized fire starting right from it. Unlike previous air crashes that involved fire-in-flight at the cargo holds(normally B747 combis), there's no direct access to the cargo hold from the passenger compartment nor the cockpit, leaving the aircraft without an option to stop the fire.

Going back, the plane entered the sudden crisis. Immediately after the explosion, both pilots' steering wheel slammed to the right and the plane banked to the right, quickly bringing the aircraft down by hundreds of miles. This deviation was immediately corrected by the autopilot, but soon the Captain Goldberg discovered that the autopilot and the thrust's steering system was the victim of the blast. At the same time, Warning lights came up in the plane, indicating that the autopilot had disengaged and all the engines were malfunctioning.

"Culero cerote pizado hijo de tres mil putas", Captain swore in what was one of many Spanish swears he learned from years of flying to San Jose Guayabal, before turning to his first officer, "Can you take control of the plane for now? I'll check the engine checklist."

"Si," was the only word First Officer Peron blurted out, as he placed his hands on the flight controls in response to the autopilot disconnecting. Quickly, Captain Goldberg then focused his attention on the engines and read the checklist. Right in the checklist, which was a very old book bought by the Aeroquebec when they first bought the plane 14 years ago, it was indicated that the first thing that needs to be done in the situation was to put the throttle in idle position.

"You need to put the throttle in idle position, just like how you do with 747s." The older of two men calmly said to Auguste, with the instruction. First Officer Peron, in response to this, pulled the throttle backwards, only to discover that it's jammed. The impact from the very explosion and the resulting engine failure have resulted in jamming of the linkage.

"It doesn't work, David." First Officer Peron responded, before trying to give another thrust. It clearly didn't work out, once again.

"Then the second thing on the agenda's to turn off all the engines." Captain Goldberg responded to this, and seconds after the instruction it's followed accordingly by First Officer Peron. Immediately realising that the fuel supply lever to be pulled to shutoff, he actuated the firewall shutoff valve, with the fuel flow to all four engines effectively shut off.

With the imminent danger over, the flight began to diagnose the situation on the flight deck. Knowing that the best thing they can do is to keep the plane stay as long as possible before making any attempts to land, they tried to keep the nose as straight as possible, to the horizon. The plane, with all engines turned off, were now slowly leveling out of the sky.

......

412km from El Roblar

Because of the damage in the hydraulics, leading to the inability to use the tail, the plane experienced continual tendency to turn right. Without flight controls, it was difficult to maintain a stable course, even with the most experienced of pilots, due to the conditions they were in. They were no longer able to continue course, and with the nearest airport in El Roblar still 412km away, now looked to be doomed to crash.

From now, all the way to the very date of the crash, the Aeroquebec Flight 69 oscillated vertically and quickly in a Phugoid cycle, something that happens when surface flight control’s lost. Both pilots, as well as the flight crew and some of more acknowledgeable passengers, very well knew that it’s inevitably going to crash into the mountains of Northwestern San Jose Guayabal. Regardless, they continued to try different methods to overcome the loss of hydraulics, not knowing the spark that were now on the starting process of rampaging the cargo hull.

......

406km from El Roblar

By 14:48, just fifteen minutes after the plane got bombed, they were now only 23,000 feet from the ground. For your information, the highest mountain in the area’s around 6,380 metres high, so only about few thousand feet away from the plane. With the mountains on their vision and so on, as the plane glided, the passengers started to panic, even as their flight attendants tried to calm them down, and inform them of the safety instructions.

Beneath them, the cargo hold was almost entirely on fire, thanks to the firestorm that the bombing created about minutes ago. With this leading to the electrical fire, and with proximity to the fuel tank, the plane was now almost a flying firebomb. Little did most knew about it though, due to the extra metal layer that's placed between the cargo hold and upper compartment of the plane(where people were actually sitting and doing whatever the stuff while panicking). Through their flight system notifying them of the fire, however, the flight crew and some of the cabin crew got to realise what's burning underneath.

Knowing that their chances of landing the plane safely is now almost out of their reach, especially with the cargo hold on fire, they decided to officially call for help. “Aeroquebec 69, El Roblar. Mayday. Mayday. Aeroquebec 69 to El Roblar, plane's cargo hold's on fire. Mayday. Mayday.” First Officer Peron quickly shouted to the ATC officers back in El Roblar, with his voice in the height of desperation. Then, the flight crew continued to try the jammed equipments one more time, but it was futile.

Now out of any realistic options to save the plane, and with cargo hold on fire, Captain decided that landing by the side of one of the mountains on the mesa range could only be the realistic option. It was not the best, but hopefully the one that can save as many passengers as possible.

David Goldberg closed his eyes and slowly panted the words out. “Aeroquebec 69, El Roblar. Flight level, 225. We’ll be landing by one of the mountains. Once again, Aeroquebec 69, to El Roblar. Flight 225. We’ll land by…”

Resistance - Part Three

IORDAN

The adrenalin kicked in almost immediately, and they charged, The first fifty men were cut down immediately, to be replaced with more and more coming off the landing crafts. It was a huge horde of Sarian soldiers, wearing their distinctive green and white camouflage patterns, all battle formations forgotten in the moment, it was the same of the Lojish, although they had entrenched positions, and heavy machine fire that was gunning down so many Sarian soldiers. All in all, there was around three thousand men on the beach, the number fluctuating as men were shot down, and men got off the landing craft.

And Iordan was loving every minute of it, the rush of the wind on his helmeted face, the feel of the weapon in his hand - it was the latest issue, a super light Horbis AR34, while it struggled to shoot long distance, it was deadly at short distance, he flexed it and fired it off at a Lojish soldier, and saw him fall to the floor, only to get back up again. At first, Iordan was confused, then he realised - he had fired it straight at the strong Lojish body armour. He wanted to kick himself, he knew he had to aim at the face with these people. He had been told that, repeatedly.

In the distance, he could here his Corporal's voice, he ran towards it, knowing that he would be presumed dead if he didn't. "Right lads," Corporal Nathan Saunders spoke with a deep, rough voice which made everything he said sound like a threat. "I have got orders from Colours, we are to advance forward, we are making gains, we are outnumbering four to one. All of you need to prepare to charge together. Do not stop running and firing till we reach the end of this beach. Is that clear?" His words were met be a chorus of 'yes Corporal', although he said nothing about the heavy casualties that Iordan expected the squad of men to receive, and all the squads following them.

And once again they charged, this time in unison, as a unit, as a country. Some men shouting slogans, others crying as they fired their semi-automatic weapons, sweeping down Lojish soldiers as they went, Iordan saw Henry Phillips to the right of him, fighting, living his dream. Henry had confided in him that it had always been his dream to join the Army and fight for his country, and now he was living it for the glory of his country. Iordan smiled, then he saw blood spewing out of the end of Henry's neck.

Confusion sprung on Iordan like a panther in the night, where was the blood coming from? Then he realised, Henry had been shot, Henry was dieing, kneeled down on the floor, breathing heavily. Breathing his last few breaths.

Iordan knew the procedure, they had practised it a thousand times back in The Sarian, but this was not The Sarian, he was not going to keep on going and leave Henry to the battlefront pillagers who came to the front line after every battle. He knelt down to Henry's level.

"Henry?"

Henry was pale and he looked like every breath was paining him, everything went in slow motion around him, the screaming men charging, the tanks behind them, the artillery barrages from the navy and the planes overhead. Iordan was nearly on the verge of tears now, this was the person whom he had gone through training with, fought with, and thought he was going to die with.

"Henry? Henry? HENRY PLEASE!" Deep down, Iordan knew it was useless. He knew Henry was dead.

ALF

Alf Alienus was not having a good day, he never was these days. He had just came out a meeting with the defence council, a bunch of old generals that had given up on themselves the second they had pledged allegiance to Fredrik. All of them that is, except one.

Alf was impressed by one general, Rory Gunn. He was not seventy years old, he was forty five at a push, he was intelligent and Alf could tell that his loyalties lay elsewhere than with the Florian Party. Alf liked that, there were too many yes men around these days, finally someone with balls. Alf was just leaving Briefing Room Alpha when he decided to do it, he turned around, just Rory was in the room.

"General Gunn?" The general stood to attention, Alf was technically Deputy Commander in Chief, he supposed it made sense.

"Deputy Executive?"

"You don't need to hide anything with me Gunn, I know." Alf gained a feeling of half pleasure as he saw the general try and decipher what he said. "I know you dislike Fredrik, I do too. Do you here what I am saying? I could use you to overthrow Frederik and replace him with me."

JOSEPH

"Arron, we need her. It's not a question." Joseph was getting tired of the argument, he knew that the reservists were soon going to be the only significant amount of troops left in and around Chippenham, the once large garrison was now all but gone, and he knew that the reservists Commandant General, Charlotte Manning was a must.

"You don't know her as well as I do Joseph, unless we have a plan and we are guaranteed to be victors, she won't listen, she got where she is because of that."

"If she only picks the victors, then why is she still backing Fredrik fucking Elwing? He is leading us to defeat in this bloody war. Who even cares about Lojal anyway?"

"I do, my parents are from there, you have no idea the atrocities that fat dictator commits. He is nearly as bad as that Greg guy from Gregoryisgodistan." Joseph was a politician, he knew what the Colonel was doing, only focusing on the subordinate question.

They reached the barracks of the Reservists, gave their names to the two soldiers on guard and got an escort to the Commandant Generals personal office. The Chippenham Reserve Unit's barracks were a lot bigger than Joseph could ever imagine, stretching for nearly half a mile, filled the brim with men - and women - alongside every ground vehicle you could think of, this fil Joe with confidence, if they could get Charlotte on board, which he was sure they could, they would have this at their disposal.

"Commandant General Manning."

"Colonel Pershan, and I'm afraid I don't know you." The Commandant General had long, blonde hair and fair skin, her eyes were equally pale, only just being grey.

"I am Joseph Teller, ma'am, Junior Minister in the War Officer."

"Lovely." Joseph could see the forced smile on Charlotte's face, and could tell that she thought this visit was anything but lovely. "So what new legislation have you come to tell me about this week?"

"None, ma'am." Joseph lowered his voice to little more than a whisper, "We've come on some over business." He gestured towards the armed escorts that had brought them to the office.

Charlotte seemed to pick up the hint, because it was the soldiers she spoke to next, "Right... You two can leave, go get a beer or something in the mess hall."

Both soldiers muttered "Thank you ma'am" before saluting and leaving.

Charlotte pointed towards two seats, "So what did you want me for?"

"Well Ma'am," ("Please, call me Charlotte now they're gone") Sweating slightly, Joseph restarted "Well Charlotte, we are representing both ours and other members of our little groups feelings here. We feel that the Florican Party is leading the Sarian to disaster. And as there are no elections any more, we feel that we need to..." he struggled to find the right word "... Usurp them."

The soft face of the Commandant General hardened, "What you are trying to do is convince me to commit treason. I shan't have it in my office, I will pretend I heard nothing, but if you come to me with this again I will have you both arrested."

"Charlotte."

"It's Commandant General to you, and Ma'am after that. Now gooday," She saluted, "Florican Forward."

Arron repeated her words, but Joseph kept his lips firmly closed.

"I want to hear those words come out your mouth Minister." But Joseph didn't, and he never would.

"Ok... But what does it mean?"
"No clue... It is all I could find in this paper upon our group."
"Hmm... Havelund did score, so we might have won."
"I do not like the sound of that contra, to be fair."
"Yeah. But against Kernansquillec? Did we have to play them?"
"Nope, Audioslavia. They are former BoF-winners, not? I think we are in the lead with Kernan, after beating Audio."
"Jolly way to start a Cup for Chaps."

Replace Seber, Havelund, Knutsen and Wallenberg by Schmidt, Dalmshelf, Halmiini and Plovnarov for the upcoming games, please.

Denouement
Parte, th'Seckond
Parte, th'Fyrst

Ronald and Mayvis Mylls. Happily married for close to sixty years and wholly united in the idyll of a long-term love. Morning had broken in it's usual way in Paradystopia, the last of the previous nights revellers had mostly scattered to their homes whilst a lonely few had nested themselves in flowerbeds and grass verges to sleep off whatever destructive combination of chemicals they saw fit to ingest the previous evening and the bird's dawn chorus was in full swing. Ronald was cursing the coffee-machine whilst gingerly sipping at a mocha. He wanted a macchiato but his eye sight was on the wane and the tiny text upon the machine was now barely visible to him. One may have thought that after having an 'incorrect' mocha every morning for the last 2 years or so, he'd have learnt from his mistakes. Ronald could however, outstubborn a mule.

"Why do you keep fillin' the chocolate powder in this damn thing woman?"
"Mocha again darling?"
"Yes, another bloody mocha. I should do somethin' 'bout that button."
"Yes dear."

Mayvis knew he wouldn't. It was the usual morning routine. She honestly thought if he actually got the right drink for once in the morning, he'd probably have a heart attack. Ronald continued to grumble to himself as he flipped the morning paper to the back page. Start with the sports.

"Paradsytopia won dear."
"Dammit May! You know I like t' read the sports in the mornin'."
"I'm just saying. Foskar scored in the twelfth minute. Think it was Whalmsye who put him through. Then in the ..."
"What did I just say. Shit on a stick! I, as in me, I like t' read the sports! And 'Foskar'? It's Pfyffio ... Pfeffeff ... Pfyg ..."
"Pfyffydghoerracks dear?"

Ronald grunted in acquiescence.

"He's certainly looking t' pull a Bressler is that cat."
"Sorry dear?"
"You know, Jacques Bressler? Lymantatian striker? Must be 'bout sixty by now, still bashin' 'em in?"
"Sounds like steroid abuse to me."
"... that, or Horseradish energy drinks ..."
"Sorry dear?"
"Nothin' love. Nevermind, just somethin' I heard."
"Ok dear, and by the way, does this look different to you? It's been bothering me all morning."

Usually the view from their flat's kitchen window was that of a vast swathe of ocean. On a particularly clear day, one could just about make out Nexxus Drako and Yveltal as dots on the horizon. It was one of the things that had attracted them to Psaltrys' capital Fuult in the first place; a serene sea view. All those years ago when they were first betrothed to one another. Today, however, something was decidedly different.

"Am I goin' utterly bat-shit crazy, or is Yveltal a lot closer than normal?"
"I don't think that's Yveltal dear. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's the Altomare coastline."
"Altowhatnow?"
"You know dear. Altomare, the Felixian city. Dooreen's son's babysitter took a weekend break there a few full moons ago. It looks like the postcard."
"So what the flyin' fuck is Felix doing outside t'kitchen window?"
"I don't know dear but you can't see it from the living room for some reason. I thought it seemed a little odd."
"'A little odd'? May, this is somethin' straight out of a soddin' Dreamed Realm insane asylum minus the bloody monks."

"It worked?!"
"Sort of. Somewhere in Paradystopia and/or Felix. I can't be sure."
"We did it! We only bloody did it!"
"I doubt the Glorious Leader would consider this a success."
"It's a start."
"Yes, the start of another few days of tedious re-calibration ..."
"Don't be so damned pessimistic Erik. They could name this discovery after you. Just think of it! Erik Glory, co-inventor of the device which can puncture holes in time and space."
"So, 'Glory holes'?"
"Yeah. How cool is that?!"
"We are not calling them that. Regardless."
"Well fine we could use my name then?"
"'Filip Arz?' ... 'Arz holes'? Ermmm ... no ... I think it best that we leave the naming of the discovery to Glorious Leader Psi but now we need to get to work. The deadline is almost upon us."
"Indeed. For the glory of the Commune."
"For the glory of the Commune."

Brandon, Rowland and Coleman
"You know what's a weird thought?" asked Keith Rowland, lighting up a cigarette.
Neither Reece nor Michael was that talkative. The three were there by chance, having just sort of clustered together in a smoke break.
Keith snorted, and continued his own train of thought. "None of us ever played for a Nepharim club. Besides on loan, at any rate. ... I'll be honest, I was bricking it by the time my loan expired. Didn't think there was any way Treason would take me up. Seems the Lions saw somethin' as the Stags didn't."
"I seen photos of back then," said Reece. "You was ... well, we were all different. But you most of all."
"I grew late," said Keith blandly. "Diff'rent type of player. Had to be, really. Lanky cunt I was back then, eh? Adaptability, mates, that's the key. ... Still. Never thought all this'd happen. See, I kept thinkin' my career was over. Then somethin' comes up. My career seems to be at an end for Treason, then I get picked up to Eura, and fuck was I nervous. But I do okay. Holdenberg City pick me up after a time, as I get a lot tougher and stronger from the trainin' I got back in Bastion-"
"Yeah," snorted Reece. "'Training'. That trainin' come in a syringe, maybe?"
"I was a late bloomer," muttered Keith. "Anyway. That came, that gave me another edge, but even then... what was I with City?"
"Average," said Mike. First word he'd said the entire conversation.
"Well... yeah," said Keith, taken a little by surprise. "Right. Like, what, ten, twelve goals a season? Consistent's all you could say I was. Really, I was glad t' have my chance with the national team. ... Only time I felt like I couldn't be replaced."
"At least you got your chance with the national team - for me, it felt like I'd be overlooked forever," said Reece Coleman. Unlike Keith, he'd always been the same sort of player - big, strong, a risk-taker.
"That's th' thing with goalkeepers. Get born the same generation as someone truly class and you're fucked. Still - looks like you proved yourself in the end."
"Yeah. And playin' the way as I'm best with. I'm happy for the chance - see, Jess used to shit herself whenever a goalkeeper left the six yards, but now she sees the use of someone coming off to sweep behind the high line we keep."
"It's growing more common in the Nepharim league itself," said Michael, firmly. "It's grown a lot since we left it."
"Still, we play different between club and country," argued Keith. "Even if you'd been asked to stay put, you still gotta do it, stick to the plan everyone else works with. I'm given the freedom to poach off other's chances at my club, but in a green shirt? Usually it's me makin' the chances, close up at any rate. I like it. Get to prove I can do somethin' different."
"You had a point to prove in your first season after being transferred," said Reece firmly. "A lot of money changed hands for you. And not many believed in you to fulfil it."
"I fuckin' proved it, mate. I never thought I'd switch to a cross-town rival, but... it happened. It's been for the best."
"I was surprised when it happened," ventured Michael.
"What, the move? Or the breakthrough season?"
"Both. ... Pass us a cigarette."
Keith obliged, somewhat surprised. Smoking was permitted freely in Nephara but generally frowned on in foreign leagues - Mike Brandon was a cold professional.
He took a long drag, and breathed out with a distinct sense of contentment. "Been a long time," he said, quietly. "Not since my days back in the Crisisbless youth system. And unlike you, Keith - this isn't an insult, I'm just saying how it is - my club wanted me, and it wanted me bad. Back in the day, they thought I'd be the greatest player to come out of Crisisbless. Maybe even the nation. Lucia Oakwood's name tended to show up a lot when I was around. Couldn't keep me quiet enough, though - that was when Directus showed up. Big wad of cash and there it goes, I'm off to a foreign country. As far off as Rushmore, even.
"Remember I wanted to look really polished, classy... professional. I went on that plane clean-shaven, cropped my hair short... didn't smoke after I got wind it was happenin', didn't want them smellin' it on my breath." He chuckled. "Wanted to get voice trainin' to get the edge off my voice, but there wasn't time. Picked up the accent quick enough, anyway. Neither of you did, as much. I... didn't want it to get to my head. Kept a low profile in the media. Just wanted to do my job.
"Both of you are... sentimental. All I was in it for was the cash - I always was a great midfield anchor and deep playmaker, the sort of player that gets overlooked until he's kicking your shins in. Not the sort that gets the spotlight. ... But there was something about those days. I didn't think I cared about the spotlight, but there was something about people asking the management why I wasn't being picked for the national team..."
"Old Gethin Ramsey always did have strange ideas about player selection," snorted Reece. "Ever heard of Brighton Lovelock?"
Michael waved him off. "Yeah, anyway. And when it did happen people were pointing out that there was just two truly great players in the squad - Dale Brightley in the front of the midfield, and that cold bastard Mike Brandon in the back. I thought the spotlight was wasted on me."
Keith clicked his tongue. "Were you wrong?"
"I didn't think I let it get to my head, being arguably the greatest the nation had produced. But now... well. Brightley's gone, but others have popped up. You two. Kieron Riordan. Rook. Kylie's gonna get there someday soon. And these past couple seasons... I've been doing what I've always been doing, while you get headline after headline. And maybe you always had more in you than I did. Maybe I've burnt out. Nothing more than a squad player, after all, even if it is for one of the greatest clubs in the world."
"Don't tell me you're envious of us?" said Keith, incredulous.
"Don't get me wrong. Envy's an ugly thing, and I don't like recognising it in myself. But I guess it's been below the surface this whole time." Michael sighed, and stubbed out the cigarette. "Don't worry, mates. I won't let it get to me. But ... I felt someone else had to know."
He left them standing in the cold breeze. The Holdenberg striker shuffled his feet in the grass. "Well, uh. That got deep."
"Everyone's got secrets, mate. The Caths are into bondage for all we know."
Keith blinked. "Christ. Makes you think, that."

The Present Day
"Damn it," muttered Hadrian quietly. "This is what we used to do to other countries."
"Hadrian..."
"Remember when we beat the Sunrisians in 64's qualifying? Huh? I was watching live at home. We beat Maklohi Vai, too. Two years later, we beat the Archregimancy at home. And now it's happened to us. The Gauls are following in our fucking footsteps. Which is nice, and all, but couldn't they do it to someone else?"
Auburn Bywater shrugged. She didn't, strictly speaking, like to see the players drinking so much the night after the match... but after that result,
It wasn't even the performance. Which had been... adequate, for most matches. But Terres de Gaulles played their heart out, and the result was a fair one. The Cormorants hadn't put out a B-team. No dodgy referees. No stunning goalkeeping performances. No 50/50 penalties. Just two teams having it out, and one doing better.
Nephara needed to kick into gear. Badly.
"It happens," Auburn managed. Even she was on her third vodka and coke, and she could really have done with a fourth. "Just... keep it in mind next match."
"I don't deserve to start next match," Hadrian muttered.
"Don't say that. You're still, bluntly, the best defender we have. ... Sorry, Elaine," Auburn added, glancing to her other side.
"'S alright," said Elaine quietly. She was nursing a pint of her own.
"Look. It's Kiryu-shi next, right? And we're at home? It's like... okay, last cycle, right? We lost to Bonny 1-0. Then we beat the Syndicate, and Farfadillis, and got to the quarterfinals. Results like this are shit, sure, but they happen! You just gotta roll with the punches."
Hadrian glumly sipped at his pint. "Even so..."
"Fucking relax, yeah? You'll be alright. Trust me."
