History of Noburu Taiyou

Noburu Taiyou, which means "Bull of the Sun" in the Taiyouese language, first developed a sense of nationhood in ancient times. According to legend, the Taiyouese Royal Family was descended from the Goddess of the Sun. However, despite being regarded as living deities, the Emperor and Empress had little actual power. Instead, power in the old Taiyou mostly rested with local feudal warlords known as shoguns. The shoguns waged wars for centuries until the Ogawa Shogunate finally conquered most of its rivals in the 1500s and became de-facto rulers of Taiyou.

Taiyou was, largely, avoided by its Esportivan neighbors until the last few hundred years. Other Esportivans saw the islands as a barbaric wasteland utterly devoid of culture. While this was inaccurate, it was easy to understand why they would see the Taiyouese that way, with their language and writing system that had no resemblance to that of any of their neighbors. This only began to change after 1792 when Commodore Alfred Brousseau of the Republican Navy sailed into Tohoko Harbor with weapons technology far more advanced than any the Taiyouese had ever seen, insisting that the Shogun establish diplomatic relations and trade with the Republicans.

Commodore Brousseau received his audience with the Shogun, although it wasn't like the Taiyouese had any choice in the matter. They could tell, just from a glance, that the Republicans had superior military force. At first, neither of them could understand what the other was talking about, but the Commodore had anticipated that and had brought a linguist along with him. The linguist deciphered the Taiyouese language over the course of several months, based on his understanding of similar languages that were known to Republican scholars. When the linguist accurately translated the Commodore's words into Taiyouese, the Shogun was shocked and impressed.

The Shogun had actually been pretending to not understand what the Commodore was saying, as a test to determine whether he was friendly or hostile. Now, these foreigners had deciphered his language, something that had never happened before. Impressed by what he had seen, the Shogun agreed to establish relations and trade with the Republicans. For over a hundred years, Taiyou co-existed peacefully with its neighbors and with the Republicans. In the meantime, Taiyou modernized and adopted many foreign ideas.

The intentions of several generations of Shogun remain a subject of debate among historians, but what is not a subject of debate is the fact that the Ogawas were especially obsessed with modernizing their military and with their secret efforts to craft more perfect weapons. By the middle of the 20th century, the Shogunate had a well-equipped and well-trained modern military. The word "samurai" had been used to refer to warriors in the past, but that had been dropped in favor of words adopted from English like "Army" and "Navy." But, it would be the "Air Force," which was subject to the Taiyouese Navy, that would eventually drag the Taiyouese into a major war.

In the name of a "Shared Prosperity Sphere," the Taiyouese went on an invading spree to the east, slowly drawing closer and closer to Republican territory. Concern over Taiyouese militarism spread in the Free Republics, motivating the Republican government to limit what could be sold to the Taiyouese. The Republican government barred the sale of any items or raw materials to Taiyouese buyers that could potentially be used to wage war. The Taiyouese took great offense to these trade sanctions. While historians debate whether the Republican Consuls had foreknowledge of how the Taiyouese intended to respond and whether or not Republican provocations of some sort were involved in the decision, they do not debate what the Taiyouese in fact did. Admiral Morimoto ordered a bombing raid on a Republican military base known as Charm Harbor.

The attack caught the Republican military completely by surprise. Several thousand Republican soldiers were killed and thousands more were injured. While the Taiyouese expected the Republicans to respond with negotiations, they were shocked when they responded, with hours, with a formal declaration of war. What followed was an extremely bloody war that lasted for over half a decade. Republican soldiers gradually fought island-by-island. After taking one island, they moved onto the next and on and on. Finally, they had forced the Taiyouese back into Taiyou. At this time, the Republicans decided to launch a full-scale land invasion of the Taiyouese islands. The death toll already numbered in the millions, at that point, but Operation Victory, as the land invasion was known, would prove to be the bloodiest that the Republicans have ever fought. Only when the Taiyouese were thoroughly defeated, with both the Shogun and the Emperor falling into Republican captivity, did they finally surrender. By that point, over 2 million Republicans had died in the invasion, as had nearly 10 million Taiyouese.

After they had obtained the unconditional surrender they sought, the Republicans deemed the Shogun responsible for the war and executed him as a war criminal. However, they quickly determined that the Emperor was a figurehead who held no responsibility for the war and had, in fact, warned the Shogun against it. They chose, reluctantly, to leave the Emperor on his throne as a puppet. They forced a new Constitution on Taiyou which declared the Taiyouese a semi-autonomous colony of the Free Republics and established the Taiyouese government as a constitutional monarchy under Republican supervision. Under the terms of the Constitution, the Taiyouese were forbidden from maintaining a military, were required to grant the Republicans a permanent military base, had to pay annual reparations to the Republican government in perpetuity and all members of the former Shoguns family were to be permanently barred from holding elected office of any kind.

After the war, Taiyou was rebuilt with the assistance of (mostly Progressive) advisers from the Free Republics. At that time, the Progressives were still a relevant force in Republican politics. Upon their arrival in Taiyou, they helped to advise the new government and develop a society dominated by large corporations. These large corporations provide a guarantee of lifetime employment and operate a large portion of the Taiyouese safety net. Thanks to collaboration between the government and many of the corporations established shortly after the war, Taiyou adopted a corporatist model for their economy, rather than the laissez-faire capitalizm of the Free Republics or the socialism that was in vogue at that point in time. This system quickly became a bulwark against socialism in Taiyou, so even Republicans who found the system distasteful have generally been willing to leave it alone, out of fear of something worse.

Surprisingly, it worked, in large part because of Taiyouese cultural values. Soon, the Taiyouese developed a reputation for being more efficient and better craftsmen than other nations. Soon, there was talk of a Taiyouese Economic Miracle. Taiyou's economy has weakened somewhat in recent years, struggles that are widely associated with the fall of their total fertility rate to replacement level. The government has been trying to address this problem lately.

However, the major controversy in Taiyou these days is the independence question. With the increased levels of political instability in the Free Republics and concerns about their increasingly militaristic leanings, many Taiyouese now desire independence. This movement has yet to find any support among prominent politicians, but there have been several large protests in the cities and anti-Republican sentiment is widespread in Taiyou these days.

Transportation

As all Double Elimination Round games in IBS VI will take place in either Tohoko or Osoko, both of which are on the same island, travel between islands will not be necessary. However, should visitors wish to see the other 3 Taiyouese islands, ferries run between the islands on an hourly basis. Ferries include parking for vehicles, allowing for ease of transportation throughout Taiyou.

The most common form of transportation in Taiyou is the automobile. Cars are manufactured by several Taiyouese companies including Sanada, Oyokawa and Katagiri. If you prefer to travel on motorcycles, Kakuta motorcycles are especially popular in Taiyou. If you prefer not to drive, a bullet train regularly travels between cities and can also be invaluable for traveling within a city, since Tohoko and Osoko are both relatively large cities, in terms of both area and population. Buses and taxis are all that common in Taiyou.

Weather

The Taiyouese climate is generally temperate. Expect warm weather in the summer and cold weather in the winter. Precipitation is very common, especially during the summer. As the International Baseball Slam is being held during the summer, expect the weather in Tohoko and Osoko to be hot and wet.

Language

The Taiyouese speak the Taiyouese language (OOC: Basically a dialect of the RL language of Japanese) and print everything in their native dialect, using their native writing system. However, most Taiyouese have at least a basic understanding of English and all signs are printed in both Taiyouese and English. English, sometimes with grammatical and/or spelling errors, is often mixed with Taiyouese, both in conversation and in writing. If you come from an English-speaking nation, you should be able to communicate adequately enough with the Taiyouese.

Currency

The most commonly accepted currency in Taiyou is the Taiyouese Yen. However, local banks are willing to convert your local currency into Yen for a small fee. Generally, the conversion fees are lower for Republican Thalers and Universal Standard Dollars than for other currencies. Due to Taiyou's status as a Republican colony, trade with neighboring nations isn't exactly as strong as one would expect.

Entertainment

While there are plenty of entertainment options in Taiyou, television is generally not a viable option for most visitors. The only television networks available in a typical hotel room are the 12 over-the-air networks, all of which broadcast exclusively in Taiyouese. Most television programming, therefore, will be incomprehensible to those who do not understand the language. Similarly, movies that originated locally tend to be in Taiyouese, as are foreign (which includes Republican) movies that are targeted toward children. However, foreign films that are aimed toward older audiences are usually sub-titled, with the original audio remaining intact. Several theaters in both Tohoko and Osoko cater solely to fans of foreign films.

Fast and reliable Internet connectivity is available free-of-charge, as the Taiyouese Internet infrastructure is government funded as part of the Infrastructure budget, which is considered a major responsibility of the government. Access is logged, but logs are only viewed when necessary as part of a criminal investigation.

Everything that you would expect to find in a modern city is available in Taiyou. This even includes some of the seedier industries, although the Taiyouese definition of consent tends to be slightly more conventional than the Republican definition.

Laws

Generally, there are very few laws to worry about in Taiyou, beyond the usual ones that you would expect in any nation. Laws against drugs are strictly enforced and apply to substances such as cananbis and tobacco that would be legal in most of the Free Republics proper. However, the Taiyouese are known for their relatively strict enforcement of their laws and for the very high conviction rates in their justice system, so it is strongly recommended that visitors to Taiyouese territory refrain from committing crimes while in Taiyou.

Stadiums

Each stadium will host a Semi-Final bracket. The Final bracket will be held at the Tohoko Dome. See the bid for more information on the format for the Double Elimination Rounds.

Tohoko Dome

The Tohoko Dome, also known as the Coconut Dome or the Tohoko Big Coconut, is a coconut-shaped domed stadium located in Tohoko. It is the most prestigious stadium in Taiyou and the home stadium of both the Samurai Taiyou team and the Tohoko Giants, the most successful baseball team in Taiyouese domestic baseball. Although it only seats 40,000, the Coconut Dome has an estimated capacity of 54,000. The distance from home plate to the left or right field fence is 328 feet. The distance from home plate to the center field fence is 400 feet.

Osoko Dome

the Osoko Dome is a domed stadium located in Osoko. It has a capacity of 34,228. As at the Tohoko Dome, the distance from the plate to the left and right field fences is 328 feet while the distance from the plate to the center field fence is 400 feet. The Osoko Dome is a newer stadium than the Tohoko Dome that was modeled after the more prestigious domed stadium. It is one of a number of Tohoko Dome look-alikes that have been built across Taiyou in the last 15 years.

Notes

Samurai Taiyou is a defensive-minded team which is built around pitching and defense. The pitching staff is composed primarily of finesse pitchers who get batters out with an array of breaking pitches. Taiyouese baseball heavily emphasizes pitches such as the knuckleball and the eephus, which most pitchers can throw in addition to the usual curveballs, sliders, splitters and fastballs. A Taiyouese pitcher is expected to develop a large repertoire of pitches and leave hitters constantly guessing at what pitch he will throw next. Defense is heavily emphasized in Taiyouese baseball. Professional teams in Taiyou look for players who are fundamentally sound and play good defense. Players that struggle defensively usually don't receive any offers to play professionally in Taiyou. Instead, they sign with teams in the Free Republics and will only be seen on TV in their homeland if their team makes it to the World Series, the domestic championship for the Free Republics and colonies. As a result, power is de-emphasized in Taiyouese baseball. Instead of hitting home runs, players focus on making contact and getting on base. Taiyouese hitters are taught to be aggressive and make contact. There is also an emphasis on speed and athleticism at most positions. Numbers are not used in Taiyouese baseball, as they are seen as an unnecessary elevation of the individual above the team.

Nova Anglicana IBS VI Preview

The Lions, an upstart team turned establishment favorite, will bring the same roster as WBC 30 into IBS VI.

WBC 30, while not a poor performance by any standards, could only have been considered a disappointment for the Lions. After finishing 5-3 in the group stage, squeaking through to the playoffs despite some major struggles (this from the #3 team in the world), they made it to the quarterfinals, which they have reached in all four WBCs in which they have participated. They didn't do it the easy way, winning Ro24 and Ro16 series 2-1 against what should have been overmatched opponents. All that stood in the way of a 3rd consecutive semifinals appearance and a rematch with Super-Llamaland was Western Cuba, a legendary nation that had not participated for many years. The Lions' run came to a disappointing end when they lost 2 games to none to Western Cuba.

As far as IBS V, the Lions were dominant in the group stage, winning all three of their games against the minnows that they faced and advanced straight to the quarterfinals. They then faced the new nation of Stimpsk, whom they defeated in two games, advancing to a semifinal matchup with Super-Llamaland. With Gregoryisgodistan taking a surprise loss to first-time participants Orennana, the championship path was wide open for the Lions. Unfortunately, the Lions lost the series two games to one, but went on to defeat Imota in a rip-roarer of a 3rd-place series. One can only hope the Lions do as well or better in this upcoming IBS.

Starting Rotation (order as given)
RHP #17 Felix Murphy, 30 - has settled in at big-league level, nearly unhittable slurve
RHP #27 Justin Garcia, 31 - electric fastball comes in 4 and 2-seam varieties, along with excellent slider, but struggles with command
LHP #36 Chris Keyes, 24 - features a 70 MPH, big, sweeping curve, has better control now than before, but has great stuff, looks have "Keyes to my heart" signs common at games
RHP #28 Nate Freeman, 25 - former top prospect had an inconsistent couple of years at big-league level, but has picked it up of late, devastating fastball/curve/change moves him into starting rotation
LHP #40 Brad Bryan, 23 - tall, slim frame with long arms, hides ball very well, nasty slider, velocity average, but great pitching instincts for someone so young

Bullpen
LHP #44 Noah Hawkins, 34 - fastball tops out at 88, but makes up for it with tough cutter, slider, change, and curve, demoted to long relief, could see spot starts
LHP #14 Kyle Pauley, 30 - setup man, can get lefties and righties with fastball/curve/changeup
RHP #32 André Leclerc, 32 - Quebecois throws a tough frisbee slider from a sidearm slot, death to righties
LHP #50 Ellis Rhodes, 35 - LOOGY (Left-handed One Out Guy) has tricky 2-seam, circle change, bad platoon splits
RHP #56 Sebastian Lafferty, 28, - great natural stuff, has developed into solid major league reliever, not easily rattled
RHP #39 Donté Smiley, 27, - splitter one of the best in the game, just vanishes, average fastball, practical jokester
RHP #37 Danny Hauser, 22, - 98 MPH fastball helped him K 168 in 141 Labrador League innings, also walked 68, plenty of potential, lot of room for improvement, possible spot starter, another late-inning flamethrower
RHP #23 Trent Burkhardt, 29 - wild card of the staff, has been known to hit triple digits, but the next one could be at your head (by accident)
RHP #25 Jamey Conroy, 28 - graduated to national-team closer, led league in saves a year ago, hard, nasty 2-seamer from a low 3/4 slot

C #2 Josh Heckman (R/R), 30 - Heckman has great instincts behind the plate and is a tough man to strike out, is now familiar with the team, can handle any staff in the league impeccably
C #53 Lamar Ford, 22, (L/R), - Ford is a rookie who just hit .264/.322/.437 for the Londinium Capitols, lefty bat is his best tool, but decent defensively, good speed for catcher, loves spaghetti
C #18 Tommie Griffin, 25, (R/R), - Griffin gets Hightower's old number, big bat and big arm, poor lateral mobility, developing pitch-calling, extra pinch-hitter more than catcher

1B #22 Kareem Al-Aniz (L/R), 33 - this Sunni Muslim takes Fridays off to attend prayers, big black man with a big black beard and big black bat, mashes HRs, including a league-record 501-ft bomb, club relies on him for power
CI #26 Khris Caldwell, 25, (S/R), - Caldwell is a big boy who is surprisingly agile at the hot corner, better from the right side, but respectable from the left, club had to put a clause in his contract forbidding eating contests to control his weight
3B #3 Brice Napier (R/R), 35 - Napier has a serious strikeout problem, but if he gets a hold of one, look out
2B #5 Chris Fletcher (S/R), 31 - Fletcher is a 15/15 guy with great range at 2B, not very patient though
SS #6 Jarrod Novak (R/R), 30 - after playing pretty well in last campaign, looks to build on his success, 20/20 guy with good arm and great range, now-veteran badly wants a championship
MI #4 Josh Jennings, 24, (R/R), - Jennings is a phenom who takes Boudreaux's place, blazing speed and great defense, loves to trash talk, sometimes goes too far

OF #16 Martín Torres (S/R), 35 - Torres is a defensive whiz even at 35, .300 hitter but no power, a little less aggressive on basepaths now that he's a step slower, look for him to be used as a pinch-runner often
OF #20 Kelvin Freeman, 23, (L/R), - Freeman won ROY two seasons ago, .291/.341/.467 with 16 homers and 14 steals, cannon arm, improving defensive routes, ladies' man
OF #7 Lance Manning, 22, (S/L), - 5'10 speedster set a rookie record with 52 SB, including 4 in one game, beats out plenty of infield hits, indiscriminate swinger, needs to take more walks, especially now that he's leadoff guy
OF #19 Roman Jennings (R/R), 36 - former MVP, even at 36, he's a 25/10 guy with .300 average, if he has a weakness, it's the high fastball, team needs him to hit in order to succeed
OF #24 Tony "Flick" Barnes (R/R), 26 - Barnes takes over in right for Austin Reeves, has good power and a sweet swing, not bad on basepaths or in the field

Graig Lowman #60 (Manager)

Dante Woodward #1 (Hitting Coach)

Charley Battaglia #47 (Pitching Coach)

Claude Corbett #9 (1st Base Coach)

Freddy Snider #8 (3rd Base Coach)

Marcellus Maloney #15 (Bench Coach)

Guerro Sjömäns

This is Guerro's first appearance in a international baseball tournament, and manager George Robinnoson has created a team worthy of competing on the world stage. Baseball has always been a very popular sport in Guerro, and the citizens of Guerro overwhelmingly voted for Guerro to participate as a result. Each player was picked from a GBL (Guerro Baseball League) team that the fans voted for. Each of the 14 GBL teams have a fan base with a undying passion for their team, and will make sure the opponent knows that. Fans of Guerran baseball has become famous for this. Although the fan bases usually only have other team's fans to compete with, this time the entire nation of Guerro are united behind one team to give their support to the Sjömäns. There is no doubt Guerran fans will be one of the most passionate of the tournament, even if their team doesn't do great.

The stadium that will be used for Guerro's home games will be Heijnto Stadium in the nations capital of Senice. Heijnto Stadium is usually home to the Senice Pioneers, but will temporarily be home to the international team.

#66 First Base Coach: Schoolteacher 19DHAHE
#63 Bench Coach: Assistant Sports Minister Grant Armstrong

Stadium:

Due to the destruction of Lord Almighty Gregory Baseball Stadium by Wolfopian terrorists (OOC: actually a Gregoryisgodistani false flag), all home games will be played at Pervert Chaser NAUSJW Ballpark, formerly known as Covello Field, located in District 27, about half a mile from Covello Bay. It was renamed prior to the IBS to honor former pitching coach and pitcher Pervert Chaser NAUSJW who was arrested in New Wolfopolis during the World Baseball Classic for performing his job, castrating and dickapitating Mount Tamobet players competing in the nude. He is currently in Wolfopian prison. The arrest of Pervert Chaser NAUSJW led to Gregoryisgodistan adding New Wolfopolis to the Enemy List, which according to the Gregoryisgodistani government was the impetus for the terrorist attack.

Pervert Chaser NAUSJW Ballpark seats 4,000 fans. Beyond the fence is a small patch of woods. Beyond that are some luxury houses, and beyond that is Covello Bay and the District 27 Marina, where the wealthy dock their personal yachts. The marina also has space for foreign ships to dock. It can hold fairly large ships. Ships with capacities up to 50 people should be able to dock there, possibly more if they are small enough. The marina area is off limits to Gregoryisgodistani commoners, who will be executed if they trespass, but foreigners do not need to worry about that provided they have their papers. Teams can either fly into Lord Almighty Gregory National Airport in the Capital District and travel approximately 600 miles by bus or travel by boat, dock at the marina, and rent a bus to drive about a mile to the stadium. (Walking from the marina is also possible.) Teams traveling by boat should inform the Gregoryisgodistani government as soon as possible so that customs can meet them there and space can be made for their boat. Please include the number of people traveling with you.

RP:

Choose my Lineup No - follow what was posted.
Choose my Runscorers Yes
RP Injuries Yes, one per game.
Godmod Injuries Yes, but note the above restriction.
Follow my Rotation: Yes
Eject my players: Yes, one per game unless you eject a commensurate number of yours. For instance, you can eject three of my players if you eject two of yours. This includes coaches, who can be ejected but count towards the limit. An exception is that you can eject both my manager and my pitcher for throwing at a batter after a warning (as the rules say should happen) and this counts as one ejection.
Godmod other events: Yes, do anything except kill Lord Almighty Gregory, our head of state and official deity. Failed assassinations and fake assassinations using prop heads are fine. However, expect reciprocation. If you kill one of my players, that's fine, but I'm going to kill one of yours. If you don't TG me first to ask which one I'd be ok with killing, I won't TG you first, I'll just kill one, though if you kill a bench player I would kill one of your bench players, not a starter. I will do this WITHOUT CHECKING YOUR RP PERMISSIONS because it is far too complicated to figure out whether we'd both be in violation of each other's RP permissions or whether you made an exception, meaning we're both fine.
Other: If you do an RP involving my country, but do not mention it by name ("Gregoryisgodistan" without any formatting in the middle of the word such as striking "isgod" to make Gregoryisgodistan) TG me to give me a heads up. You do not need to wait for permission, and there is a chance I won't bother to reply. I frequently search for mentions of my nation so I can reply to RP's, but if you don't mention it by name, I can't do that. If for whatever IC reason you refer to my country by some other name (Gregoryisgodistan, Gregoryistan, Gregoryisnotgodistan, "that country with a name so blasphemous I cannot speak it" etc.) that is fine but either mention my country by name in an OOC note or TG me.
Use DH at home: Yes. But we're using official MLB rules, meaning if you have a starting pitcher who is a good hitter, you may bat him instead of a DH, but then you lose your right to a DH for the remainder of the game even if you go to the bullpen.

Notes
The United Regions Baseball team[and all its other teams for that matter] believes in teamwork first and game secound. This gives it a big boost in defense but a less skilled offense. The coaches are so keen on defense that they focus the first three months of the training year on team building exercise alone this means that they are not allowed to touch a bat or ball for this time. Team exercises consist of obstacle courses, paintball, ect. IF a team member decides that he does not want to work as a team regardless of his skill he will be dropped and disqualified from the team permantly, this is considered a huge dishonor in our nation.

Mizuyuki Sunburst
Official Roster for the IBS VI

Nation Background

Mizuyuki (Mikazukian: 瑞雪 , Tinchalian: 瑞雪, Mizuyuki; formally 瑞雪国 Mizuyuki-koku, Ruixueguo, alternatively the Celestial Empire of Mizuyuki), is in effect an amalgamation of twenty prefectures into a single unitary state, known formally as the Celestial Empire of Mizuyuki or the Technocratic Union of Mizuyuki. The Divine Empress of Mizuyuki, Empress Asuka, Shirakawa-no-Kirino, is the de jure ruler of the country, while in practice, a select group of ten individuals - collectively known as the Executive Committee - are the leaders of Mizuyuki.

Situated in the region of Aeneas, the Celestial Empire has prided itself at being at the forefront of scientific progress for many a year. However, in recent years its sporting achievements have been nothing to sniff at, either; two successive qualifications in WC66 and 67 tell its own story, while only two last-gasp goals prevented them from making it three in a row at the last World Cup. In absolute terms, however, success has been difficult to come by; the only sporting honours that Mizuyuki have bagged are the now-defunct Market Cup and the regional Aenean Cup.

Unfortunately, due to the inexorable progress of time, there is no historical record available for the foundation of the Celestial Empire. Historians claim that there is not sufficient empirical evidence to trace the links and connections back in time, but according to uncorroborated apocryphal evidence passed down via oral tradition, the lineage of the ruling House of Shirakawa can be traced to the ultimate deity of Kiseki-no-michi; Kirigiri-no-Mikoto-no-oomikami.

Mizuyuki is a country of approximately 72 million people. The population is about as homogenous as a pancake - more than ninety-five percent of the population are Mizuyuki-jin, with a smattering of other minorities floating around the place. It is a technologically advanced, semi-isolationist country that mostly keeps to itself, though it has been known to intervene in international affairs with the intention of preserving the status quo.

Stretching over 225,000 km2 in total land area, Mizuyuki ranks among the smaller nations in Aeneas - however, it ranks among the most densely populated nations in the region, with an average population density of almost 325 people per square kilometre. Mizuyuki has practised a form of government that is similar to an absolute monarchy ever since the promulgation of the Asuka Constitution in 2014. However, it does still retain some semblance of democratic government, with members of both Houses in its unitary bicameral parliamentary system elected by universal suffrage.

For more relevant information, see the Yukipedia page on Mizuyuki.

Overview

The Tigers began at the twenty-third World Baseball Classic, held in Qazox, not looking to do that well. To their surprise, they performed quite well after all, winning six and losing a mere four to place third, only behind co-debutants Maklohi Vai on tiebreakers. This pattern of "really quite well, but not quite well enough" continued under manager Thomas Yaft, as a 5-5 record and fourth-place finish in Lycrabon at WBC 24 and a 5-5 record and third-place finish by virtue of the second tiebreaker, H2H RD, which put them behind Skeckoa by three runs and led to minor controversy in Equestrian States for WBC 25.

They finally broke through at Cassadaigua for WBC 26, with a last-day victory Allinlia giving them a 6-4 record and sealing their path through to the Promised Land of the playoffs for the first time in their now twelve-year history. But against the Phoenixes of Equestrian States, they stood no chance, as the Equestrians swept them out of the Round of 24 two games to none.

After this, the nation founded the International Baseball Slam, but at IBS I and II, they found only middling success, placing fourth and sixth in a field of eight nations.

At WBC 27, they bested the same Phoenixes to go six and two in Maklohi Vai and Saintland and clinched a spot in the Round of 16 thanks to their superior victory. But Kriegersen swept them out of the tournament, and going into WBC 28 with a fourteenth-place ranking, they still had not won more than six games in a tournament or won a playoff match. At IBS III, this troubling trend continued as Nova Anglicana swept them out of the quarterfinals despite their 5-1 record propelling the Tigers to the number-one seed.

After a 6-4 record in the WBC 28, the Tigers went through a difficult bracket to defeat Maklohi Vai, Vaugania, Nova Anglicana, and the Royal Barangay in thirteen games and found themselves world champions and world number-two. While many cried "fluke", especially after they failed to advance out of the group stage at IBS IV, they continued to charge through the playoffs of the WBC, this time beating Feministvs Sanctvsterra, Ko-oren, and Cassadaigua, all good teams, before playing The Royal Barangay with revenge, the world number-one ranking, the world crown, and for the Tigers, a chance to become the fourth team to defend their crown. The Royal Barangay took the series lead twice, but each time the Tigers responded to force a deciding Game Five.

They lost, the bullpen, so reliable during the playoffs, imploding and conceding just enough runs for the Indios to wrest away the world championship. But at IBS V, Imota beat three-time champions Gregoryisgodistan in the quarterfinals, and the Tigers took advantage of the power vacuum to, after beating Nova Anglicana again in the semifinals, defeat newcomers Orennana in the championship series to take the IBS title. And after winning the bid to co-host WBC 30 with New Wolfopolis, they once again took back the WBC crown after defeating Jeckland three games to one in the finals.

The team is riding an all-time high, having made it to the finals of four of their last five baseball tournaments (WBC 28, WBC 29, IBS V, WBC 30). Can they continue the streak in Noburu Taiyou? There's only one way to find out.

Special Note

The team will be wearing #92 patches in memory of WBC 30 national-team reliever Tom Jones, who died under mysterious circumstances at his mountain retreat in February 2013 at the age of twenty-six. Jones' number has been retired and the patches will stay on until the end of WBC 31.

Jones will be honored by his three former club teams as well, Denison, Emerald Springs, and Vargas. Over his five-year LBL career, he struck out 326 batters over 348.2 innings and maintained an ERA of 2.58. At WBC 30, his only international tournament, he threw six innings, gave up only one earned run, and struck out eight.

2B Alex Kirk (Age 19, #29, L/R)

After finally passing the controversial age limit to play in the 2013 season, he won rookie of the year, hitting .326 with twenty-nine steals and eighteen home runs in the 141-game LBL season, and continued things this year, hitting .335 before the IBS interrupted the season. Kirk has decent-to-prodigious amounts of all five tools, with defense, contact, and speed his best traits. Although he came down to earth a little bit in the major leagues after breaking the League-5 minors batting-average record (.458), he's still extraordinarily cocky, especially now that he's batting leadoff for the Tigers. Better yet, he's starting to get more patient at the plate, with a career OBP of .396, important in the increasingly stats-oriented Llamanean Baseball League. Seems to thrive under pressure, although he's still not that great at hitting lefties.

SS Aaron Baxter (Age 25, #13, R/R)

Power-hitting but injury-prone Baxter was dropped a spot in the lineup after nagging knee injuries effectively ended his 2013 season before May. He's had them repaired through surgery, but he's definitely lost a step on the base paths and on defense, where the loss of range has made him somehow even worse than before. Before a 30-30 threat, he's now closer to 30-15. Meanwhile, from a batting perspective, he can crush pitches of all sorts and his timing is impeccable, making him hard to fool with just offspeed, but he has terrible plate discipline and frequently strikes out on balls way above the zone.

RF Jake Earnest (Age 30, #30, R/R)

A do-it-all outfielder now in his prime, Earnest debuted controversially at WBC 28 to place fan favorite Chris Harder, exploding for 24 RBIs and an average well north of .350 to seal his spot in the order. In 2013, he added a second MVP and eighth all-star appearance to his resumé, hitting .341 with thirty-six HRs and 111 RBIs. His weaknesses have yet to be found, except for when his timing is lost late in the count through enough fastballs and breaking balls; he hits a mere .231 from the sixth pitch of an at-bat onwards.

LF Trevor Matthews (Age 32, #18, S/R)

Matthews has amazing power, hitting 377 home runs total in the LBL over twelve seasons, and in recent years, he's gained patience and average as well. But as he enters the tail end of his career and his defense slows, his superstardom is no longer clear, and at the age of thirty-two, brilliance is no longer assured. Luckily, his bat speed shows no signs of slowing and his hitting is on the tail end of a stable plateau. Early breaking balls can fool him, but as the count goes on, he's likely take a bad pitch and launch it.

3B Peter Camden (Age 32, #8, L/R)

After IBS IV, Camden was supposedly one of the future greats. The twenty-six-year-old had just broken out in the LBL, hitting .385 in 2008 and keeping pace with the all-time record until August, and on the international scene, he hit .450. But after a mediocre WBC 29, he's now a consistent clutch hitter in the midst of the order, second on the team for RBIs since his debut behind only Earnest. His defense, however, is still outstanding, and no pitch in particular can fool him.

C Michael Trabajen (Age 21, #3, R/R)

It's hard to believe Trabajen is still twenty-one with how he has matured in the past few seasons, but the catcher is still playing arguably the hardest position in the game well. His power is beginning to come consistently as well, with high-teens home runs, and with improved pitch-calling and the fact that he's still twenty-one, things are looking up. Of course, his contact skills, one of the best in the world, haven't declined either: he's hit .354 domestically since WBC 29.

CF Megan Peterson (Age 25, #5, L/L)

Peterson is the prototypical center-fielder, with speed, defense, and contact skills. Her timing is hard to crack, but she can't deal with high fastballs nearly as well as she can breaking balls. She's also the first Llamanean female baseball player in history, after being put on the roster on July 12, 2011 and getting an at-bat in a 6-1 friendly win against Tree Death on August 8.

1B James LaRoi (Age 26, #11, R/L)

LaRoi is a very good player, however, he doesn't really excel at anything. His stat line from 2013, projected to 162 games, tells the whole story: .293 AVG, .370 OBP, 27 HR, 94 RBI, 17 SB/19 ATM. However, he's exceptionally injury-free and consistent.

OF Roger Harkless (Age 27, #19, R/R)

Harkless has matured into a five-tool player, only lacking patience, with a career K:BB ratio over three. The wiry outfielder's best tool is his speed, which he used to steal twenty-five bases in 2012 and another nineteen last year, but he doesn't excel at anything. He'll be the first man off the bench most nights.

HOW TO USE: All-around first guy off bench. Mostly plays center field, but left and right are acceptable as well. Hits fireballers poorly, so don't put him in against one.

OF Emily Pierce (Age 23, #24, R/L)

Megan Peterson's second cousin has ran her way onto the team. While Peterson got her way on with average and defense, Pierce is a pure speedster who could easily be (and possibly already is) the next Brett Rochester. Making her debut this year, she's on pace to steal thirty-six bases, possibly a first-year record. (Rochester, hampered by a leg injury, stole twenty-one his debut season, but a record sixty-eight the next.) Her hitting and defense is acceptable but not really good, and she cannot hit any pitch over 94 MPH.

HOW TO USE: Pinch-running and possibly as a defensive replacement. Harkless is still the first outfielder off the bench except in pinch-running scenarios. Never against high fastball pitchers. Good at getting on base, but not as good as Bryant; good at bunting, but not as good as Adrian.

IF Troy Adrian (Age 24, #16, S/L)

Adrian is a master bunter who often lays one down for a single. Miraculously, he is also fantastic at going the other way, often lining 0-2 pitches into left field, meaning that third basemen often find themselves confused over where to go if Adrian is down in the count. Fantastic contact, going the other way or pulling it almost at will, and decent speed and defense, and doubles power to the gaps.

HOW TO USE: When a bunt is needed, good pinch-hitter, will be first infielder off the bench for defensive substitutions.

IF-DH (if needed) Tim Bryant (Age 24, #1, R/R)

Bryant, the seventh pick of the 2012 draft, was sent straight to the major leagues the next year and, against all odds, did well, hitting .288 with twenty-nine stolen bases and placing second in Rookie of the Year voting to teammate Alex Kirk. After not getting a single at-bat in the WBC 30, he will be similarly thrown into the fire. With poor defense and his natural positions at shortstop and second base being blocked by Aaron Baxter and Alex Kirk, he'll have to settle for the DH spot, which will utilize his unique offensive talent while avoiding the ugliness of him playing defensive.

HOW TO USE: Pinch-hitting or pinch-running early on. Best against lefties, respectable against righties. Not a good bunter.

C Bennett Castillo (Age 31, #20, R/R)

Eight-year major league veteran brought in as mentor to Michael Trabajen. Excellent catcher, not the best hitter, although he has power to left-center. Slowing bat speed means he pulls balls best on hanging breaking balls, but can no longer handle fastballs that well.

HOW TO USE: Spot-starter or defensive sub if Trabajen needs a rest.

A.J. Rondout (Age 29, #23, L/L)

Rondout often sets up his out pitch, a devastating high-eighties slurve that breaks late and spins out of the strike zone, with a high-octane, 95-mph fastball. He also has developed a low-eighties changeup that often offers a confusing change of pace to the batter as he attacks the entire strike zone with all three pitches. Rondout's nasty "stuff" and his mellow personality clash, but he's a great teammate and will compete with Drew Gilson, Griffin Bailey, and Kyle Francis for the title of "The Next Evan Masorka". Now in the ace spot, Rondout needs to step up to Masorka's prodigious shadow. Can he?

Kyle Francis (Age 30, #29, R/R)
Drew Gilson (Age 26, #49, R/R)
Brittany Hendrickson (Age 22, #14, R/R)

Hendrickson had her first international start in the deciding Game Four of the WBC 30 finals with one hour's notice, and she pitched seven shutout innings before the bullpen imploded and gave up nine runs in six innings then somehow didn't lose. Despite this, she doesn't pitch well under pressure, which is why she's in the fourth spot and therefore won't pitch often in the playoffs. Repertoire-wise, she throws a straight fastball in the low nineties, with the high-seventies curve and change her main out pitches. She thrives on throwing off a hitter's timing and throws most pitches in the lower half of the zone.

Kyle Wallace (Age 24, #63, R/R, Long Relief)

Wallace could one day be a starter after the Core Four starting group has retired, but for now, his lack of a third option and inconsistencies have relegated him to the bullpen. However, his two pitches, a nose-diving two-seamer that tops out at eighty-nine and a cutter that goes the other way but looks identical, combined with his impeccable (mostly) control, have allowed him to still relieve and possibly spot-start should the need arise.

Eric Thompson (Age 29, #47, L/L, Lefty Specialist)

Thompson has a cutter with movement and control that lefties cannot hit. And...that's pretty much all that he has. If he can ever control his flat low-nineties fastball well enough, he could become much more than a specialist, although there isn't much time left.

James Pierce (Age 20, #21, L/L, Middle Relief)

The lefty uses his out pitch, a sinker to the lower half of the strike zone, to complement his high-octane (94-97 mph) fastball. With better control, Pierce could easily become a closer, but for now he's in middle relief after graduating from specialist before he got control.

Jacob Lin (Age 25, #30, R/R, Middle Relief)

Lin, of Tree Death descent, kills with finesse and is quite good at it. With three fastballs (88-93 4-seamer, 86-87 2-seamer, 84-86 sinker) and a quality curve and changeup, Lin can mix speed and location as good as anybody. Arm troubles kept him out of the rotation and he still hasn't pitched more than seventy-five innings in a season.

Kenny Oberweis (Age 24, #55, L/L, Setup)

Oberweis has a fastball that tops out at 102. His slider and sinker are improving by the day and he could be closer by the time everything's done.

Bobby Fritz (Age 28, #69, R/R, Setup)

Demoted from closer after a sudden lack of speed, Fritz's low-90s fastball, dominant curveball, and pinpoint accuracy should tide him well.
Tomás Reynolds (Age 31, #52, L/L, Setup)

WHEN BLAZING FASTBALLS, SLIDERS, AND SHOULDER INJURIES COLLIDE: THE REYNOLDS EFFECT, COMING TO THEATERS NEAR YOU

Tyler Brennaman (Age 24, #31, L/L, Closer)

Brennaman is a unique pitcher in the regard that he throws completely, near-twelve o'clock, overhand. His strange arsenal, which has lead bored and drunk sportswriters across the world to dub his mixture of pitches "Brennastein", includes a mid-80s two-seamer, a 12-6 curveball, a circle change, a small Phillips screwdriver, and an eephus.

New Wolfopolis Cubbies - International Baseball Team

After an awful World Baseball Classic, the Wolfopian International Sports Commission has decided to scrap the entire team from Classic 30 and start fresh. However, they haven't decided on the players who will represent the team. So, for the upcoming International Baseball Slam, they decided to throw the nation's best high school players into the Slam in Noburu Taiyou to give them a shot at the big time. It probably won't be a pretty sight, but the pitchers, whose max speed is about 80 mph, at best, might be able to catch opposing hitters off guard. And it has been said that this bunch of high schoolers like to hit the fast pitches. So we'll see how they do. This is also the first Wolfopian national team, of any sport, to feature a female player, and it's the ace of the pitching staff, to boot. The WISC has decided to keep the same coaching staff, however - at least for the time being. Needless to say, the WISC really does not care about our team's performance in the Slam this time. While it is a nice way to honor these high school players, and a good little gimmick to get people to watch, we probably won't have any shot at contending. We'll have to wait and see, however. The Slam often features new, untested national squads, and they may not be at the normal international caliber we're used to. Additionally, the WISC announced slightly before the Slam that the number 29 would be retired across "any and all baseball teams representing our nation," in honor of Allen Marsh, who was assassinated during International Baseball Slam IV.

Looking Ahead: Tournament Predictions

by Kathryn Alexion, Allen Sanchez, James Rhoderick

IBS Time is here, as the Republican colony of Noburu Taiyou won the rights to host this time, being the only bid and a well-respected one, especially with no other option but to re-open bidding.

With the groups drawn without much ceremony at all, it's time to look at them and complain in the time-honored tradition.

GROUP 1

Nova Anglicana Lions (2)
Globus Commons (UR)
Bitburg Barons (UR)
Free Swiss States Baseball Team (UR)
Ospira Diamonds (UR)

Nova Anglicana is a proven team, and with their top-notch rotation and consistent bats as usual, they should rip through every team they meet and then lose in the semifinals. Although with no semifinals in this newer format, that could be significantly harder. They definitely have the skill to make it to the final round.

Group Two

Mosktopian Nationals (10)
Abanhfleft Revolution (UR)
Miley World Floyds (UR)
Nassau Eagles (UR)
Patistan Greenbats (UR)

Mosktopia made it to the quarterfinals in their debut IBS before falling to Super-Llamaland, while Patistan performed superbly at the WBC and Miley World seems to be a dark horse to win the group. I'll still take Mosktopia, though.

Group Three

Samurai Taiyou (23)
Coconutstan Trojans (UR)
Lisander Arminhos (UR)
Estope Nationals (UR)
Berk Dragons (UR)

No team in this group has made it to any WBC or IBS knockout round save for Estope's quarterfinal performance. Still, home court advantage has the ranked Samurai Taiyou moving on to the next round.

Group Four

Super-Llamaland Tigers (3)
Garifunya Dolfijnen (UR)
Camerania Stars (UR)
Vangaziland Royals (UR)
Appalachian State Mountaineers (UR)

One of the easier groups Super-Llamaland has been drawn into, this group features NO teams that have ever participated in a WBC or IBS. Think about that. Vangaziland is the only one that offers a chance, but the might of the Tigers should tide them through. Watch me jinx this, although with a "randomness-away" format, maybe we have a decent chance at it.

Group Five

Vettrera Wild Herd (17)
The United Regions Capitalist (UR)
Britannual Dunks (UR)
Western Borderlands Breakers (UR)
Mamaroneck Tentay (UR)

#worstgroupever

Vettrera. I can hardly see how one could pick anybody else, seeing as Britonisea (Ro20 like six years ago) and Vettrera (Ro20 at WBC30) are the only ones who've made it to the Promised WBC Playoff Land. Britonisea and Vettrera will go head-to-head day two, with the winner of that (I pick Vettrera still) heading to the playoffs. The United Regions and Western Borderlands, however, could both easily win the group - it's up in the air right now.

Group Six

Gregoryisgodistan Bat Slaves (1)
Estenia Blue Stars (UR)
Coconut Isle Dwarfs (UR)
Guerro Sjömäns (UR)
Mizuyuki Sunburst (UR)

Gregoryisgodistan, nuff said. After not winning a IBS for the first time since IBS I, when they weren't participating, they will easily get into the finals for sure. Mizuyuki, with a decent team, is the hipster alternative - bet on them before they're cool.

Group Seven

Imota Sunwings (5)
Perinpanland Athleticos (UR)
Cardoan Lions (UR)
Murbley Chillers (UR)
Notsofreeland Komodo Dragons (UR)

Imota. Nobody has disclosed their roster, and the Sunwings, who seem to take home third or fourth every IBS since they've started (not a whole long time ago), will probably take third or fourth, although with their top-five ranking, they have an outside shot to win it all.

Group Eight

New Wolfopolis Cubbies (4)
Taxachusetts Green Sox (UR)
Diegstra Knights (UR)
Jachaelter Jack Rabbits (UR)
Vyktory Dragons (UR)

New Wolfopolis is obviously a contender, while Diegstra surprised everyone at the WBC before fading. I still see New Wolfopolis advancing. The last time New Wolfopolis didn't make it to the playoffs, Sangti was hosting, and Costa Luna failed to defend their
crown, losing to The Sova Empire in the semifinals.

Yes, this is a chalk bracket so far. Screw you.

Completely Pointless Seeding Predictions

1. Gregoryisgodistan.
2. Nova Anglicana. Two best teams in two best spots.
3. Mosktopia. Don't know about their fatigue, but I think they'll get out of the gate quickly. Real question is whether or not they're built for the stretch run.
4. New Wolfopolis. Good team will play well. Shocker.
5. Samurai Taiyou. Host nations in easy group.
6. Imota. Still an outside shot at championship-ness, but they tend to surprise later in the tournament.
7. Super-Llamaland, because they never do well in the group stage - just barely well enough to get by.
8. Vettrera.

Even More Completely Pointless Pot Predictions

Gregoryisgodistan, Mosktopia, Imota, Vettrera

Nova Anglicana, New Wolfopolis, Samurai Taiyou, Super-Llamaland

I guess we should try the playoffs anyways

Gregoryisgodistan and Imota advance out: Mosktopia will flame out, Gregoryisgodistan is too good, Imota has too much scrap to go out this early in an IBS (at the WBC, they get drawn into the worst group possible and then have terrible luck. They honestly are a good enough team to at least make it to the WBC Ro16 consistently, but we're digressing here.), and Vettrera isn't too much competition.

The host nations have gotten here on effort and teamwork, I doubt they can make it past the quarterfinals on that alone. Meanwhile, the "Cubbies" of New Wolfopolis aren't taking it seriously. Therefore, Super-Llamaland and Nova Anglicana.

In the final four? I'll take Nova Anglicana to get further than the Final Four this time around: they're too good. Imota will shrivel in the ridiculous talent of the other teams, although they won't make it easy. Super-Llamaland will make way for Gregoryisgodistan to get back in for the crown, setting up a quasi-final of Gregoryisgodistan and Nova Anglicana. We'll take Nova Anglicana to win it all this time around. Let's see if that actually happens.

Between the Lines: Looks at the Lineup

Collaborative Effort by Aaron Carter, Matthew Pritchard, and Josh Mueller

Two years have passed since the Tigers took home the Classic crown, and the sixth IBS is upon us! Founded in 1995 by the Llamanean Baseball Association, the International Baseball Slam was intended as a minor baseball tournament between WBCs, but has grown into IBS VI's forty-nation affair.. So how will this team do now, as they're reigning champs of both baseball tournaments? With the same old dominant pitching staff boosted by the addition of finesse righty Brittany Hendrickson, a bullpen, headed by the maturing Tyler Brennaman and a cast of capable setup men, that might not blow every game for once, and good-as-ever bats, featuring a long ball lover's dream from two to five in Baxter, Earnest, Matthews, and Camden, four guys that combined for 127 home runs in 2013, the Tigers are sure to make things interesting.

Starting Lineup

The lineup is insanely conventional, that's for sure. Get your best-OBP-ing speedsters (Alex Kirk and Aaron Baxter) in the 1- and 2-spots, best hitter (Jake Earnest) bats third, that guy that can drive in a bunch (Trevor Matthews) hitting cleanup, dangerous protection (Peter Camden and Michael Trabajen) in five and six, slap-hitting center-fielder (Megan Peterson, although to be fair, she has developed power lately) seventh if you have one, least dangerous guys (James LaRoi and Tim Bryant/pitcher) eighth and ninth. Perfect.

However, the resident stats guy (Matt Pritchard, whose stats blog Statosphere is great if you have time) puts things a little differently:

Studies[1] show that the first, fourth, and fifth hitters lead off innings more often than other positions. This suggests your best OBP guys in these positions and your run-drivers in first, fourth, and seventh. Middling OBP guys can move into the second and sixth spots, while protection should be provided by not only 5-6, but also 7-8.

First, we can rank our players by 2013-14 OBP:

RF Jake Earnest: .438
C Michael Trabajen: .411
2B Alex Kirk: .392
3B Peter Camden: .378
1B James LaRoi: .366*
CF Megan Peterson: .366**
LF Trevor Matthews: .359
SS Aaron Baxter: .348

*.3667
**.3664

Logically, we can put Earnest in the fourth position (where he can also drive in runs), Trabajen in fifth, and Kirk leading off. Next, we'll rank the remaining five by SLG:

LF Trevor Matthews: .519
3B Peter Camden: .485
SS Aaron Baxter: .476
1B James LaRoi: .472
CF Megan Peterson: .433

Therefore, Matthews bats third and Camden bats sixth for protection. For seven-eight protection, we can use Baxter and LaRoi, leaving Peterson, whose speed and OBP will be an asset, to take the second spot. DH Tim Bryant, whose .350 OBP and .465 SLG aren't good enough, can slot into the nine-spot (or possibly the second spot if a lefty's on the mound) should he have to play.

This new, optimized lineup,

1. Alex Kirk
2. Megan Peterson
3. Trevor Matthews
4. Jake Earnest
5. Michael Trabajen
6. Peter Camden
7. Aaron Baxter
8. James LaRoi

So if a #1 hitter leads off, we have Kirk-Peterson-Matthews-Earnest, if the #4-hitter, Earnest-Trabajen-Camden-Baxter, if the #5 hitter, Trabajen-Camden-Baxter-LaRoi.

Poll: Should the Tigers adopt Matthew's optimized lineup.

Yes, as an experiment [ ]: 85 votes
Yes, permanently [ ]: 36 votes
No [ ]: 82 votes

Coming In

The Eagles had about an even rate of success and failure in the last competition they participated in. Despite clinching Group J in fashion over Maklohi Vai and Alitaba, they still pathetically lost the first knockout round series to Western Cuba. A great stride in and a shameful walk out would be the best way to describe it. Otherwise, the Eagles are in the best form they may ever be in. There is little need for change on the roster and absolutely everyone is positively contributing to the team. The main challenge from here-on-out for the Hessen will be to keep consistency (especially for avoiding upsets). The defensively solid Nassauites are ready for most of the things that may be thrown at them, and the eventual goal for the Eagles in the Slam may be a tad lofty.

Lord Almighty Gregory's Speech to the People

"Good evening, ladies, gentlemen, and slaves. I must speak to you tonight about events in the world of sports. Gregoryisgodistan will be participating in the IBS Slam. We have been drawn into a group with a nation whose name contains a forbidden word. (OOC: Coconut Isle) I will not repeat the name of this nation, lest I say the forbidden word myself, but it is not Estenia, Guerro, or Mizuyuki. It is also not us, obviously. It is the remaining team.

"Of course, this presents an interesting complication, as that nation will be unable to state their own nation's name. Therefore, all stadium announcements will refer to the team simply as the "Dwarfs" because we will not say the forbidden nation name. All press releases and TV broadcasts will do the same. Furthermore, any fan, player, coach, or broadcaster, regardless of nationality, who utters the forbidden word as part of the nation's name, will be executed on sight. Any civilian who turns in these wicked heathens will receive a 10,000 greggygodbuck reward. Even foreigners can receive a reward for turning in those who say a forbidden word.

"Our series against this wicked heathen nation with the wicked heathen name will be the third series we play during the International Baseball Slam. We will show these heathens that only losers use forbidden words in their name by sweeping them, winning every game. They will not be allowed to say forbidden words in our country, even if they are only part of the nation name. It is obvious that this nation was named for the sole purpose of harassing Gregoryisgodistanis, just as heathen nations like Saintland and Quebec frequently chant this forbidden word at our hockey team enemy crushers.

"Now, I must talk about other matters. Our ice hockey team is currently traveling to The Royal Kingdom of Quebec for the Royal Alexadndre Hockey Invitational. This is the second-most prestigious hockey tournament in the multiverse, after the World Cup of Hockey. We are defending champions in the WCoH and the number one team in the multiverse. This is only appropriate because I am the God of the Multiverse who created the game of hockey. However, this tournament keeps getting delayed and our enemy crushers are getting impatient. I worry that they might crush random people if this delay continues. That would be a shame, wouldn't it? Thousands of Quebecois citizens crushed to death all because the hockey people insist on delaying the start of the tournament. Well, don't let it happen. I hear our baseball team has an Enemy Crusher too, and he is willing to crush any umpire who makes bad calls against Gregoryisgodistan. Don't let it happen. I am the Lord Your God, and all umpires must respect this great nation!

"Thank you everybody. Have a good rest of your evening. Go Bat Slaves! Go Ice Slaves! Death to nations with forbidden names!"
Gregoryisgodistan, population 75,000,000. All citizens are required to worship Lord Almighty Gregory, our head of state, as a deity.

Cameras pan to three men sitting on an oval desk with. On the right is the Sporting Analyst Brett Jumar. In the middle is retired coach for the Cablar Red Hawks, during their prime years, Doug Spalding. And lastly, dashing Baseball Informant Roy Balding

Mr. Jumar Good Evening, and welcome to PSN. We have heard great news from the Perinpan Baseball Association. Players from across our great country will be playing in the sixth International Baseball Slam!

Mr. Balding That is correct, for those of you who are still unaware he is a detailed look at our current roster:

Starters
C #4 Jadier Guip, 32, (R/R) Currently plays for the Puerto Floyt Falcons. He is 5'10" weighing 210 lbs. Guip started his career 13 years ago and continues to maintain a batting average of .284. Moreover your typical slugger. Guip is known for his quick reflexes and leadership.

1B #24 Miguel Cruz, 31, (R/R). Currently plays for the Bretton Lumberjacks. He is 6'3" weighing 230 lbs. Cruz has been paying for 11 years now and has an average batting average of .320. Known for his home runs and doubles. He is relied on for his powerful arms both in throwing and batting.

2B #22 Robinson Butler, 32, (L/R). Currently plays for the Halicane Fishers. He is 6"0" weighing 208 lbs. Butler has almost been in the league and has a .310 batting average. He is very quick with his eyes on the ball. Furthermore he is under scrutiny for the various antics he pulls off on the pitch such as imitating officials and his opponents.

SS #2 Derek Troy, 40, (R/R). Currently plays for and has been playing for the Gothamcity Royals since he began his career 19 years ago. Sure is one great veteran. Truly one of the greatest players in Perinpanland. He is 6'3" weighing 196 lbs. With a batting average of .311, he is relied on for his consistency both offensively and defensively. Sure is a smart baseball players.

3B #16 Amadeus Donaldson, 36, (R/R). Currently plays for the Drakeers Jets. He is 6'1" weighing 207 lbs. LIke Troy, he too also has had an extensive career going back 15 years. Although many do believe he is underrated. He has a batting avg of .285 with over 360 career Home Runs. Defensively he is to have one of the strongest throws.

OF #19 Carlos Batista, 24, (R/R). Has made an impact on the Orton Ravens putting that team on the top of its division. He is 6'0" weighing 203 lbs. His current batting average is .292 and has most homeruns in the season last year. Plays Right Field.

OF #23 Andrew Jones, 28, (R/R). Currently plays for Tawkridge Tanks and has been professionally playing for 5 years. He is 5'10" at 180lbs. Despite what anyone says of this young player we believe he has great potential. He always shows outstanding results. I mean look at it, two years ago is Batting avg was .327, second in the league. Last year it was .317 and this year it is currently .319. LIke guip he is amazing at stealing bases, most likely for his speed. Furthermore he is one of those players who is most likely to hit every game he plays. He plays center field.

OF #10 Adam Gomez, 29, (R/R). Currently plays for the Acadian Cobras. At 6'3" and 200 lbs he is quite the speedy fellow. Has made some impressive catches over the course of this season and is determined to ensure that the other team does not score on him.

DH #25 Alex Reyes, 34, (R/R). Adam Gomez's teammate in the Acadian Combras. There is not much to say about this player. He is 6'2" at 220 lbs. This one was a suprise to me. He is .297 and is known for singles and doubles. He does lack true power in which he will need to work on.

Pitchers
RHP #41 Pat Grajib, 34. Here is a player I want to see more of. This player is having a phenominal season. With a WHIP of only .54 and having what I believe to be one of the most number of starts in a season, this could be Perinpanland's shining star. He has done well for the Puerto Floyt Falcons leading them all the way to the championships. So far he has only given up very few runs.

RHP #50 Adam Watson, 33. One if the tallest players on the team at 6'7" and also playing for the Puerto Floyt Falcons he has had quite the career. Known for is wicked pitches, and super fast fastballs, he has completed more games then anyone else. This season alone he has had 4 shutouts, one of which, believe it or not was a no-hitter. He is who i believe could win for best pitcher.

LHP #34 Felix Clayton, 28. Since he joined the league 9 years ago, he has been pitching for the Halicane Fishers. I believe that he is one of the most experienced pitchers on this team. Last season he has had the most shutouts. Furthermore not only does he start games but many managers enjoy the peace of mind of allowing him to complete the game. This season his WHIP is .89.

LHP #11 Wu Crato, 27. Here is an impressive player. As a rookie with only two season in the books, Crato is known for having the most strikeouts in the season last year with over 275 of them. Also known for starting games with the Granton Sheriffs, he has a WHIP of 1.19. He is believed to be comfortable with all types of pitching and is tricky to bat against due to the element of surprise within Crato.

LHP #56 Greg Dutch, 29. Orillia City Knights' very own saviour if you will. Dutch has been put into the games for the sheer purpose of saving it. He shares the similar qualities of Biggs with more experience. In his career he has only missed 10 opportunities with a WHIP of 1.10

RHP #62 Sean Biggs, 28. Another rookie for the Birchton Nationals who has very little experience in my eyes. It could be due to the fact that Biggs ends games. He has only missed 5 games from being saved. He has a WHIP of .92 which is amazing considering. It is Biggs curveballs/knuckleballs that really put a damper on opponents.

RHP #56 Mark Chapman, 35. Chapman is known for starting game at a quiet and steady pace. Playing for the Orton Ravens, he has a WHIP of 1.24. He has one of the most all-time starting pitchers record. This season he has only given up 39 runs.

RHP #35 Madison Centabes, 25. Currently playing for the La Vida Sabres, he is 6'5" weighing 235 lbs. His average WHIP is 1.15 which is pretty good overall. He has lead his team to two championships in the league. He also has one of the strongest pitches.

Reserves
Here are some basic stats on our bench.
C #36 Derek Luckton, 25, (R/R).2 years for Birchton Nationals. He is 6'0" weighing 220 lbs. Batting avg is .250
C #39 Melvin Stones ,28, (L/R) Metropolis Greens. 3 years in the league. 6'1" weighing 220lbs. Batting avg is .306 this year.
1B #5 Freddie McMahon, 35, (R/R) Mikeson Spartans. 4 years in the league. 6'5" weighing 225lbs. Batting avg. is .297 this year.
1B #37 Brandon Murphy, 31, (R/R) Birchton Nationals. 7 years in the league. 6'0" weighing 210 lbs. Batting avg. this year is .269.
2B #79 Jose Castro, 27, (L/R) Gothamcity Royals. First year in the league. 6'3" weighing 255 lbs. Batting avg. 284 this year.
3B #13 Matt Fraser, 29, (L/R) Puerto Floyt Falcons. 3 years in the league. 6'3" weighing 215 lbs. Batting avg .286 this year.
3B #9 David Devine, 31, (R/R) Orton Ravens. 9 years in the league. 6'1" weighing 230 lbs. Batting avg .277 this year.
SS #8 Leslie Taylor, 33, (R/R) Gothamcity Royals. 6 years in the league. 6'2" weighing 180 lbs. Batting avg .279 this year.
CF #19 Michael Barkson, 28, (L/L) Tawkridge Tanks. 3 years in the league. 6'3" weighing 210 lbs. Batting avg .294 this year.
LF #52 Jonas Verscomantag, 29, (R/R) Birchton Nationals. 2 years in the league. 5'10" weighing 210. Batting avg .260 this year
RF #3 Alex Pierce, 30, (L/R) Gothamcity Royals. 7 years in the league. 6'1" weighing 210 lbs. Batting avg .288 this year.

Manager: Bob Gibbons. former catcher and now coach for the Orton Ravens. He has previously won the manager of the year award and has turned a team with 0 stature to a formidable foe. Many believe that the Orton Ravens have a chance of beating the Puerto Floyt Falcons to hold the top position.
Hitting Coach: Blake Griffith . The 60 year old now coached the Bretton Lumbarjacks who have produced some all-star hitters this season. Since then the team's batting average has gone up .013.
Pitching Coach: Derek Lionel. The pitching coach and former catcher has produced two of the greatest pitchers in the league and on this team. Puerto Floyt Falcon's pitching coach has taught its players valuable lessons on the different types of surprising pitches.
First Base Coach: Tim Pulper
Third Base Coach: Kevin Sneider: both of the coaches come from the Orton Ravens. Defensive mechanism and speed drives these coaches and their players.
Bench Coach: Mike Santioramo has been pushing his own weight to get to where he is. He maintain motivation and determination in the bullpen,
Bullpen Coach: Pierre LeCroix. From the Birchton Nationals, this coach prepares the bullpen on what is needed on the pitch.

Mr. Spalding: Gibbons has alot of star quality players on the pitch all of which have played well with each other. Gibbons is a veteran who has been traded from team to team and every teach he has coached has improved greatly. This team will be no different.

Mr. Jumar: We look now for where the games will be played!
