[STADIUM MAKERS] BNW Varin [current lead time: 10-14 days]

Postby The Kytler Peninsulae » Sat May 24, 2014 3:33 pm

OOC: please note that, at least initially, only one request per country will be accepted. Also, established RPers will be pushed up the priority list when a queue forms.

BNW Varin are an architectural practice based in the Kytlerian capital, Zube. They offer bespoke stadium designs based upon a modular stadium construction method that allows for efficient production of unique designs.

A choice of 44 colour schemes are available for both seating and walls, as seen below. Walls can be left uncoloured, too; although seating cannot, an approximation to white seating can be had through colour scheme 4 or 26. It is possible to request a roof in the colour of the walls.

Image

The standard design has squared corners; there is also oval design for multi-purpose stadia, and rounded corners may be available (having trouble with them at the moment). A range of other design features can be incorporated, such as VIP boxes, glass walls, and a retractable roof (although images will generally show the roof open). Make your requests, and BNW Varin will discuss the feasibility as appropriate.

The maximum all-seated capacity is approximately 100,000, which in turn is generally possible only through a uniform bowl design. Standing areas (terraces) can be incorporated anywhere in the stadium - this will increase the possible capacity somewhat. However, it's much easier to request smaller stadia, and they will in turn often be more interesting. Capacity requests of under 90k will be prioritised.

Please note that only internal stadium images can be provided. These pictures will default to showing soccer line markings, but the stadia will be suitable for other large-rectangular-field sports such as gridiron, rugby, and lacrosse. They will not be suitable for smaller field sports, like hockey or tennis. Also, note that in general only one colour for seating and one colour for the walls can be chosen. However, you may choose to request two, and have one at each end; this will slightly increase production time, but not dramatically so.

Image
This is a good example of the use of coloured walls and seats. The roof can also be coloured in the wall colour, as is the case here, although it does not usually work this well (this is as high as the camera goes).

Image
Conversely, this is as large as you'll get, and the camera is right at pitch level so it can fit. Note the terracing to increase capacity, and the bright white railings. Also, note the roof - the software has pretty nasty transparency issues with large roofs, but there's a couple of roof designs (not usable on corners) that can overcome this.

Great to see this back open! I think I made like the last request in the last thread, one with different specifications for the same stadium - I don't think it was ever made, but obviously if it was then don't bother remaking it.

Stadium name: Farham Arena
City and country: Sabrefell, New Sideburn
Approximate capacity: 88,000
Seat colour code: 24
Wall colour code: 2
Any other features: None in particular. Fairly conventional-looking.

Original nation behind Nephara. New Sideburn now symbolises an ideal, rather than a nation.

There are small stands in each corner, and a press box, amidst what is otherwise an open deck, usable for... who knows? Stalls selling overpriced refreshments and merchandise? Extra standing room (BNW Varin advise no more than 1,500 for this)? Trophy presentations? Who knows?

I'll probably be able to do no more than ten per week, so new requests will have a lag time of at least a week at this point.

I'm thinking of setting a slightly lower capacity limit because of how difficult it is to squeeze in more than about 95k. Those requesting more will either get slightly fewer seats or a ridiculous number of VIP boxes. Stadia under 90k are easier and more interesting for me to do, and as such I will prioritise orders for such stadia.

Also, dome stadia do not render well. At all. Exhibit A:
