Hicana 1–4 Nassau Hessen
Eagles Win In Aerial Battle

The Eagles have a great start. Nearing the halfway point, they find themselves without a loss and on top of their division. After a close encounter with the Iron Wolves, a blowout against the Zeneabans, and an avoided revenge against Cassadaigua (Cassadaigua's male team lost to Nassau in the Winter Olympics in Overtime), the Eagles were ready to lift off as they engaged with the FLYers *cough* stick to tradition *cough*. Both teams have been having a fairly good run before the game. A loss, however, would definitely lower the momentum that comes with it, and losing this game may even stop one of the team's streak. Carlos Sanchez and Jefferson Dishmore shook hands before the commencement of the game. Goalies Jacob Anders and Ryan Reagan took opposite nets.

The first period was not exactly action packed or filled with scoring, but rather contained well executed plays and smooth passes. Surprisingly, with all of this skillful play, not many chances were to be seen, for both defenses held their ground. The first offensive line for the Flyers proved to be efficient and useful in the game, just as the second offensive line for the Eagles turned out to be coherent and unified. There were a couple penalties on each side during the first, and power plays, however strong they were, didn't get by either goalies. Both teams left as they started, literally, the score remained 0-0.

The second period was the most active period of the game. Three goals came of the middle twenty minutes. Todd Harrison, who now is one of Nassau's latest and greatest, scored through a bouncing snapshot from an unstable pass five minutes past the beginning of the second. Along with a screen from Oscar Johnson, there was nearly no way that Ryan Reagan could've stopped it. The Flyers got back to business approaching the eight and a half minute mark. After an abrupt brawl between Melvin Harlatrov and Eric Stanton, Allen Jones found himself on the ice as he expertly stick handled around much of the Hessen defense to score just above the left pad. With a mere three minutes to go in the period, recent addition Troy Perault surprisingly scored through a beautiful centering pass from Frederick Crow. He bravely ventured to the hash marks and his gamble paid off.

The third period ended up being much like a close to any game. Both teams expanded their sense of urgency by a large amount since a game was at stake. The Nassauites entered the period leading by a score of two to one, and they intended on keeping it. Although there was no scoring in the first few minutes, the intensity was there. With eight minutes passed, Nassau scored, leaving Hicana in the dust. Gerry Melbourne got a hold of the puck in Nassau's defensive zone, and he carried it down the rink by out skating his opponents, only to score through the five hole of Reagan. After much intense playing, the two minute mark all of the sudden passed, and the Flyers pulled their goalie. Nassau scored the empty net goal by a long shot from Luis Corey, who originally just intended to ice the puck out of the zone as he became exhausted from the constant six man pressure. The empty net was the final goal, resulting in a four to one win.

The Eagles, so far, are dominating division four in the World Cup. They overcame all obstacles in the first round, and intend on beating the Mechanical Monks just as they did to Zeneabo. If the Hessen repeat the results of the first leg of the group phase in the second phase, the Nassauites would be home free into the knockout round. Cassadaigua is on the heels of the Hessen in the standings table, Caek of the Wolfen is also close at hand, and as good as the Flyers are, they only accomplished an even record so far.

Shocker: Ice Slaves lose to The Kytler Peninsulae

In an absolute shocker, the undefeated Ice Slaves of Gregoryisgodistan lost to The Kytler Peninsulae 1-0 after a goal by Daniel Farrell with 2:58 left in the third period. The game had been scoreless up until that point, but Bjartur Hilmarsson made a pass across the ice and Farrell shot it in the back of the net. The Gregoryisgodistan team wanted interference called on Farrell, who appeared to shove Enemy Crusher Bigward McFooples to the ground before receiving the pass, but received no such call.

As a result, the Enemy Crushers flew into a rage and started to crush the officials, all of whom were from New Wolfopolis. First tie die was Jake Clark, then Robert Cho and Jonathan Marshall. All three were crushed beneath the bodies of the enemy crushers. According to Enemy Crusher Bigward McFooples, "It's clear these Wolfopian referees are really terrorists in disguise seeking to continue their attacks on Gregoryisgodistan by making poor calls against us. It at the very least should have been a tie, 0-0, and I didn't see any tripping when Pervert Chaser JDJJ8138 scored in the first period. That probably should have been a goal too. So yeah, we should have won 1-0."

The incident this brave and noble Enemy Crusher is referring to is when Pervert Chaser JDJJ8138 appeared to score a goal about halfway through the first period but was called for a tripping penalty, meaning the goal did not count. This infuriated the Enemy Crushers significantly, but they opted not to crush the officials at that point. It may have cost them the game.

Lord Almighty Gregory was also furious at the officials' behavior, saying "This proves that the decision to add New Wolfopolis to our Enemy List was correct. These officials obviously hate Gregoryisgodistan and want nothing other than its destruction. What better way to destroy it than by humiliating its best athletic team, the Ice Slaves? Our Ice Slaves have been completely dominant this World Cup of Hockey, and now the officials are being stupid and costing us games."

Lord Almighty Gregory continued, talking about other matters. "I still have not heard from the Darmen delegation concerning our game there in just a few short days. If I do not hear from them within 12 hours of the game, our full delegation will arrive in the country whether they like it or not. They will be heavily armed and will shoot in self defense at any military, police or civilians who try to stop them from entering. The enemy crushers will also crush police and military, and the pervert cutting knife that the pervert chasers have can also be used to stab people in certain circumstances. The slave beaters and horse beaters have plenty of beating tools as well that can be used, and they know how to use them. So do the police officers and prison guards, and they have guns too. So it will be a bloodbath if Darmen attempts to prevent our citizens from entering their country. I would encourage them not to try anything stupid that could lead to loss of life. It won't be pretty if they do. Darmen must either let our entire team into their country for the game or move it to a neutral country. Regardless, they must respond to our communications. If they do not, things will get very bloody. I hope it does not come to that, but I am prepared to take action if necessary."

And Just Like that, the Tides Turn...
Elise Freemont -- Anditon Free Press

Its truly amazing to see what a bit of momentum can do to a team. The Wolverines were partial to that momentum as they faced off against the Esparmuran IceCaps last night. The IceCaps had been on a general tear as they built themselves considerable wins against the cream of the Group 11 crop, and with the Wolverines recently being walloped by Darmen (6-0) in the previous game, coach Mario Grappo knew he had was facing an uphill mental battle.

"We needed to get out there and fight early on. I told the guys 'Guys,' I told them, 'You need to buckle down and keep your heads up. A short memory goes a long way in this game, and we've got to capitalize on that.' And that's what we did." Coach Grappo stressed forgetting the past games rather than learning from their mistakes - but there isn't much that can be done about being tired mentally and physically from a brutal game the night before. Even still, the home crowd aided the Wolverines in their conquest. The scoring happened early and often as three goals were traded during 1:42 of the middle of the first period. To open the game, Sam Nelson was able to feed a pass to a waiting Nestor Van Ryk for a quick one-timer goal barely beating Rickey White high on the blocker side.

D'Aura (3) from Thomas (1) and Havut (1)
3: Nelson PP (2) from Van Ryk (4) and D'Aura (4)
The Wolverine's elation was short lived following an IceCap win off the faceoff. Top IceCap center Bailey Royston beat Mikka Thomas seeding a pass to an awaiting Darian Sidney. Sidney then lofted the puck towards an awaiting Anders Mikken. While Mikken was able to play the puck, he couldn't control the rebound. Following an attempt to clear the zone by MacLean Thompson, the puck bounced its way back to Sidney's stick, who was able to feather it past Mikken for a quick goal. This score silenced the raucous home crowd for the following faceoff. In an effort to energize his team, Grappo put his checking line on the ice against the second line of the IceCaps. Despite losing the faceoff, Marc VanBork plastered Dana Lovell allowing the puck to skitter to center ice and the awaiting Phillip Mys. The enforcer, not normally known for his shot, reeled back and let one loose at the net. The puck took an awkward bounce off of White's glove, finding its way across the goal line for a score. Seeing the puck in the net elated Mys, the team, and most importantly, the crowd who would not sit for the remainder of the game. This score seemed to deflate the Esparmuran team completely, leading to a lackluster performance during the final two periods.
Despite scoring three goals during the second period (including Garret Vortmann's first goal of international play on a breakaway following a two-line pass from Radek Lovan), the pace of the game had shifted from the high-intensity back and forth of the fist period into more of a calm and collected time waste. This pace continued into the final period of the game as the Ice Caps replaced starting goaltender Rickey White with backup Wolf Paige - generally seen as an attempt to save White's psyche. Paige did well during the third, stopping 8 of 9 shots, only missing a power-play score by Sam Nelson, a deflection on a Nestor Van Ryk slapshot.

The Wolverines next face Britonisea. We expect them to keep up this pace of play, most likely defeating the Britonisea team 4-2.

Subject: World Cup of Hockey XXIV match between Darmen and Gregoryisgodistan in Darmen

Due to the inability of Gregoryisgodistan to meet our nation's demands, which were made well within the confines of International Law, and also to the inability of Gregoryisgodistan to at least work towards an acceptable compromise agreeable to both nations to ensure a fair and equal match, the Darmeni Ice Hockey Federation gives notice that the match between Gregoryisgodistan and Darmen which was to take place on the 31st of May has been canceled, and that the Darmeni National Ice Hockey Team will forfeit the match in Gregoryisgodistan's favor. In addition, the Darmeni Ice Hockey Federation will accept whatever subsequent penalty the World Cup of Hockey Federation decides to levy against Darmen, should there be one.

Your welcome.

"Once again, Neu Engollon...Good Evening. Magda Wertauer coming to you from the NETV Sports 7 Update. The Ibex are on fire! Here at the World Cup of Hockey 24, hosted by The Royal Barangay, they are dominating. Not exaggerating one bit there. The Ibex are looking out, not only from the top of their group, but from the top of ALL the competing national teams in every group...That's right.

Tonight we go straight to Kinzar, where the Ibex faced down the home team in their own stadium to jeers from the Kinzarian fans. Once again, they have come out on top and dealt handily with their opponents in their group, the only difference being that they have given up their first goal of the group stage of the tournament. The goal was put in at the end of the second period by a Kinzari winger that got through a sudden hole in the defense. While his teammate managed to slam Brizio Farducci pretty hard, the winger went for the gap.
We go now to the locker room where we have Coach Le Houne on the video hookup. Coach?"

"Hi Magda, thanks for having me on. Great to talk to the home fans, even if it's like this."

"Were there any Neu Engollians there for the game?"

"There was a small section cheering us on and waving the crimson, gold and purple. Out of them, we find out later that only a few traveled for the game, the rest are residents on visas here with Neu Engollian businesses. Either way, we were happy to have them. Great to hear the ol' Alpen cheers."

"Absolutely. So...Coach, what can you tell us about the game?"

"Magda, other than what you described, there's not much else to tell. Goals by Thierry Sameaux, Remy and two from De Gratzo, plus the long one that Ziggy Kemmelz managed to knock through while their goalie was belly sliding for...whatever that was..."

"That was odd...Anyway, a perfect record was broken tonight. The Ibex let one past."

"Yeah...I know. The Kinzarians pulled a good play. By the numbers, it was classic, but they had the numbers there on that corner of the ice at the right time and these things happen. Now...let's keep something in mind, that since the end of Match 4 and up to now, we are THE team to beat. We have the best record in the Cup right now. Not Havl, not Torisakia. None of your 'traditional' hockey powerhouses. Little ol' Neu Engollon. That's saying something. It may be a fleeting happenstance, but we'll take what we can get for now."

"It sure is, Coach. I think once this hits the news replays, you will be stirring up a little storm with those comments you just said."

"Oh, I'm sure. No one expects or wants some nation from a region that isn't known for sports to make some waves, but it happens...and its happening now. We are a force that can't be ignored. We're coming for the top dogs."

"Maybe it's better to keep being underestimated and below the radar...too late?"

"Maybe. Whatever. I'm proud of my boys. They are showing what so much hard work in the off season can do. The work is paying off. We're ready and we'll keep on the offensive and on guard for the counterattacks. We will keep poking the beast that is the traditional established hockey hierarchy...you'll see."

"I think we have, Coach. Thank you for making us proud."

"No. Thank the team. Like I said, they put in the hard work. Thanks, Magda. Time to head out and get ready for tomorrow."

"Thank you, Coach. Rest up and tell the boys we love 'em! So...catch the next match here on Sports Seven. After the break we review some women's flat track roller derby scores..."

With one fell swoop we have a 7 point goal differential swing; we go all the way from a -4 to now having a +3 as we netted 10 goals against New South Aqmuland. Their goalie simply seemed out of it, dazed if you will. Perhaps it was the flurry of shots we slung his way in the first period that got him rattled (23 in that period alone). What ever it was he was not on his game, just like our freakin penalty kill again as we went 0/3 for the second time this cycle. Something needs to be done in order for us to turn that statistic around, at least we scored more goals than our penalty kill allowed today.

This win also moved us up one spot on the table, well a relative spot since we appear to be tied with Crystal Empire on points. Points is the only thing that keeps us close as we have 8 more goals than they do so far, however the side that still is of concern to many is the allowed goals where we sit at 15. But that is still third best for GAA, which now looking over the full table it looks like we are third in all the columns (GF, GA, and GD). So we are sitting in a good stop, at least I think so at this point, the midpoint of the World Cup of Hockey that is. There was one huge surprise on this fifth match day and that was Torisakia losing to Flammable American States, wow, just wow. I don’t think anyone saw that one coming. Not sure if the Ice Birds took them to lightly or if the Flammable side has improved that much.

Next up for our Mashers is the side from Crystal Empire, who we drew with last time. Hopefully we can come away with a win this go around. However we will be the away team this time. As long as we play hard we should be just fine.

"This place sucks."

The sound was rather noticeable and it was clear it emanated from the coach's mouth. Gávio Carvalho had been eating a rather horrid food that they called "home" food back at Stimpsk. It was totally uneatable, but the coach had to try. Of course, it wasn't only there where one could say the coach wasn't exactly... well, tough. While the Sunrisians had only one loss that could only be justified by their lack of team chemistry, the coach was expected to take the team to the top. Granted the national hockey team shouldn't have looked at an online forum for a coach but... ever since the Azerbaijan Goffs did a hell of a job at the league, they figured out it was more a question of luck.

"Eh, don't worry. I guess next match we will eat at a better place." said Senema Choi, the only other player left on the dining room of the hotel. Soon, they'd have to pack to the next place. Hopefully the rest of the tournament would go better.

It seems it was only yesterday when the Korvan national hockey team were training for the World Cup. But now it is upon us, and the Red Stags' showing has been, unfortunately, somewhat lackluster.

In an interview given earlier this week, lead scorer Pat Wolfe commented that the Stags were just not prepared for the aggressive style of international hockey.

Korva sits bottom ranked in its division and will likely face equally ranked Semarland, a fellow newcomer.

OOC: Sorry for the delay. I had 5 presentations and music performances over the course of last 3 days, and that took away the precious RPing time for then. Hopefully the availability of some spare time means that I'll be back in full force however.

D-7(2)

It took Jan Arne and Soo Myeon Kim 5 minutes, until they’re at the steely elevators of 21 Attwater, on their way to the 9th floor. The Avalanche Captain and Vauganian netminder Raphael Roux resided at the 19th suite of the condo that’s just by the harbour. There were four rooms at the condo suite, one each for Raphael and Soo Myeon, with one as a guest room and other reading/gaming room. It was a risky gamble with the fact that its initial price tag was around $3 million, but they didn’t mind about it that much. First, it was extremely close to the harbour and the Daytona Beach, both places that they both go to a lot. Raphael, who grew up in his family’s restaurant at Suburban Mautreil, very well knew of the benefits of having home very close to the harbour. He knew that he could get large quantities of freshly-caught fish and other aquatic resources with much cheaper price than at the market, so it’s certainly not that of a great loss of money to do so, when he could save a lot by cooking his food off fresh produces over the Guerin Bay. Soo Myeon, on the other hand, loved beaches and spending time there. It’s something that he didn’t get to enjoy that much in the inland city that he came from, so he decided to spend as much time as possible. Daytona Beach was not the one he could swim or do beach volleyball all-year long, but it certainly was an excellent one during summers.

It took them less than 10 seconds until they walked into the condo suite. Jan dropped his luggage down, which Soo Myeon took it and placed at the very Mahogany floor. Then they slowly walked into the room, feeling tired. This place’s floor plan was set to that there’s a 10m-long hallway between the entrance and living room, the very first chamber they’d see. It was fit with an interesting mix of the Art Deco furniture, combined with up-to-date equipment. At northern side of it a large, comfortable sofa faced the 47-inch television (that’s equipped with a JouerStation 5) and a loud audio player. Right beside the player, two drawers of albums in CDs were in place. Large part of the collection was the studio albums recorded by Royal Quebec Philharmonic Orchestra, where his great-uncle Antoine-Maxime Richards played (for 37 years as a Second flutist) to these days. Jan felt extremely tired, as if he couldn’t get more tired. Already the half-day of trying to adapt into the new timezone have caused him to be exhausted as heck. Then Soo Myeon, deciding that he maybe should check the time, looked into the clock on the microwaves. 5 seconds after, the loud sound of Thump!. He turned around and looked into the living room, only to see Jan’s crashed body in his room.

Shortly after Raphael Roux, the starting goaltender of Attawapiskat Avalanche and his good friend, walked into the living room. He was slightly shorter and lighter than Soo Myeon, being 5’11 tall and 196 pounds heavy. His hair was as dark as a charcoal, while his moustache added his face with some charisma. He wore a light, black tracksuit that covered the 95% of his body. He walked into the living room, waving his friend a good morning gesture, then looked at the sofa where Jan crashed into. 10 seconds later, he came back.
“Well that kid crashed pretty quickly,” Raphael said in his slightly accented-English, as he looked at the latest visitor to their condo. Normally people don’t come to their place a lot, with Soo Myeon preferring to meet people at his old place in Montreal and Raphael some club or restaurant downtown. “Yep,” Soo Myeon agreed to that phrase while grinning, “He clearly didn’t stand the time change that well.”
Knowing that the rookie’s not going to wake up, they have decided to go outside and maybe do some stuff, before he woke up.

_________________________________________________________________________________________

They slowly walked to a local bar, about 5 minutes away from their place. It was a very quiet morning, with very few people on the streets. Some got extremely surprised at meeting two significant Avalanche superstars, while others had an interesting mix of emotions surrounding, as they got to shake hands with both of them and have a chit chat. This, that being said, took both of them around 12 minutes to ‘The Radiator’, taking 7 more minutes than norm.

Once there, they sat at the counter like an average Quebecois Joe, then ordered a glass of Soberg and one of Carlton Light afterwards. They, coming from the environment where drinking’s considered a social norm from the early age, liked to drink some alcoholic beverages, let it be night or day.
Neither of them were that heavy of a drinker though, for they knew that abusing it to greater extent is not the wisest thing to do. Soo Myeon especially knew the dangers associated with heavy smoking and drinking, for that’s one of the main reasons why his father, a major junior coach and former QHLer Hyeok Seong Kim, died so early. He was known for a heavy drinker, consuming 2 bottles of traditional alcoholic beverages that often had the alcoholic contents of over 30%, per day. This, in addition to smoking, was unheard of by any other. Therefore, it was of no surprise when he died at the age of 47, leaving his wife and 14-year old so early. This caused Soo Myeon to be lot more cautious of it, even though that certainly wasn’t the case for first 5 years since his death. The death of his mother a year later, death of his teenage sweetheart Anne (accidentally, by his rifle), conflicts with his coach and resulting guilt of Anne’s death brought him to the gate of alcoholism. Since getting drafted by Attawapiskat however, he tried his best to curb this while living out the life of a rising star.

Now, with some alcohol in their bloodstream, they engaged in a deep conversation with each other. About an hour into it, they now were talking of a relationship between Soo Myeon and Jane Withers, a internationally-famous(OOC: Reference to WorldVision 28) Quebecois singer-songwriter. They have been dating for about a year now, after a fight between his teammates and her stage tour group that accidentally got them ended up walking out of place and have their own quality time in Downtown Montreal, at late hours of that September night. Raphael knew very well about her, being his good friend as well as getting to meet her several times during the season. He wasn't a particular fan of hers, but still thought that she was a fantastic musician with great voice(comparision: Birdy) and musicianism.

“....So When is your lover coming to time?” Raphael asked, instantly surprising his friend as he referred to the girlfriend of Soo Myeon.
“Tomorrow.” He said, looking into the half-filled bottle of Soberg, before responding back, “She texted me that she’ll be on her way on 17:30 flight from Halifax or so.”
“So, basically you’ll have to be at airport in around 10 p.m. then? Serieusement?” He threw it out of surprise and intrigue, with her decision to arrive at Attawapiskat this late. He felt that maybe she had planned it so that they could get some wheels done in a hotel room nearby. Besides, there were lots of hotels just by the airport, and both Jan and he would be asleep by then.
“Yeah, just in time for our anniversary the day after. I better buy a gift for her, but don’t know what to buy.” He said, adding a little bit of worries over the matter in last 6 words.
“Ooh. That sucks.” He responded.
“Can you help me with the choices, Raphael? I’ll get you her autographed album instead.” Soo Myeon asked desperately.
“Eh…..You know that I’m not the best one to ask, but what about a plant? I meant as in a huge herb plant to grow at her lawn or so.” He then emptied out the drink and asked, “Does she live in a house or a condo?”
“She’s living at a small house by the MacAlister Cove, just north of Downtown.”
He responded, reminding himself of the fact that she moved out of her old condo suite located at the heart of Downtown. She said that it was too stuffy, without enough privacy for her to actually have her place as a free refuge.
“Awesome.” Raphael responded with a thumbs up and a charismatic smile that can draw anyone's attention, “I guess we got the issue solved then.”
“But before that, let’s get some sleep back in our home and do whatever afterwards. We’re probably too drunk to do anything to start with.” Soo Myeon responded, with a grin on his face as he told his friend that it's necessary for them to come back home now.
So they slowly made their way back to their place, though not without facing some fans along the way. By the time when they arrived at their suite they were exhausted as heck, and fell into their own beds when all was over. And all of this happened before noon! It wasn’t until 7 that Jan woke up from his sleep, while the other two didn’t even wake up until 9 in the evening. It certainly was heck of a day for either of them, and not a productive one at all.

Lions End First Half On Good Note

Martin Granger, Staff Reporter

With the Nova Anglicana Lions' 1-0 road victory over Crystal Empire, the Lions sit in second place in Group 12, with a record of 4-0-1. They are actually tied with first-place Torisakia on record and ahead on goal differential, but Torisakia holds the H2H tiebreak by virtue of their 7-5 victory on MD2. The Lions defeated Crystal Empire in a gritty performance, with Andrés Kelly making 32 saves and Kermit Lea finally breaking through for them at 10:18 of the third period. The Lions seemed a little uneasy playing their equine foes, and so were not up to par as they had been in their previous games.

Their MD4 game was a home matchup against HopNation, a 1-1-1 squad that the Lions needed to get a win against. And win they did. including taking advantage of their opponents' poor defense on the power play. The Lions notched a goal in each period on the power play, finishing 3-for-3 in that department while killing off all three penalties that they conceded. Jay Schwartz's wrister started the scoring at 8:54 of the first period, and Derek Jensen found himself in a good place on the Lions' first power play, and slotted the puck home for a 2-0 Lions lead. After René Robinson found the back of the net on the power play at 4:12 of the second period, HopNation's Vaclav Ales and Drahomir Robert Hustovi scored at 9:24 and 13:45, respectively, to pull the Mashers within a single goal. The score would remain 3-2 until 7:31 of the third period, when Marq Brint crashed the net after a Jordon Bergeron shot, and pushed home the rebound given up by goalie Lucas Pierre Faucheux. Jacques Crist added a power-play goal at 14:34 to cap the scoring, and the Lions would win comfortably, 5-2.

As for the other teams in the group, Torisakia has simply been outscoring everyone with little regard for defense on their way to first place, though they did suffer a shocking away loss to Flammable American States, a team the Lions hammered 7-0 on MD1. This has to qualify as one of the most surprising upsets of all time, and the Lions should be on their guard, as they travel to the FAS next. HopNation and Crystal Empire are tied for third at 2-1-2, having drawn each other, defeated the unrankeds, and lost to the Ice Birds and the Lions. New South Aqmuland managed a win against the FAS, but is winless otherwise and surrendered a cringe-inducing 10 goals in a seven-goal defeat against HopNation. Finally, the Flammable American States are also 1-0-4, and should be winless, but for a lucky bounce. The Lions and Torisakia look like pretty sure bets to advance, but one never can tell.

OOC: Response to Darmen and GGS' RP posts, being posted in this puppet of mine instead of Royal Kingdom of Quebec. TRB, please count this for the RP bonus.

From: Gabriel Tremblay-Sachs, President, World Cup of Hockey Federation; Jacques Lemieux, President, Hockey Quebec; His Imperial Majesty the Jacques IX, Royal House of Jeongs
To: John Terry, Minister of Defense; Alfredo Albaladejo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Relations; Piran Lund, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration; Georges Thomas, Minister of Sport. Lord Almighty Gregory, Horse Beater LAL9120, Head Coach of the Gregoryisgodistan National Ice Hockey Team
Subject: RE-World Cup of Hockey XXIV match between Darmen and Gregoryisgodistan in Darmen

It has come to our attention that Darmeni Hockey Federation is going to forfeit the upcoming group stage match between Gregoryisgodistan and Darmen. Forfeiting the match in exchange of asking for a game to be played at a neutral turf, with full strength by both teams, was certainly not the most common of the things that happen in the competition’s years of history, and we hope that this will not be the case as well.

That being said, what the DIHF did was certainly abominable, for it was unnecessary and not in the spirit of the competition to forfeit the game or demanding unfair conditions, such as only allowing 3 Ice Slaves into the nation. When it comes to former, this does not allow a fair matchup between 2 top teams of the multiverse, effectively ruining the spirit of it. With the latter, banning all the defensemen and goaltenders (even though they’re all part of a profession so-called Enemy Crushers) to play for that 3-on-3 game would severely compromise the entertainment and quality of the game, which is something that is unacceptable. Other teams risked themselves by playing against them, so this doesn't give them any excuse.

But it should also be noted that Gregoryisgodistan, as a nation, has a history of violence against opponent players, coaching staff, fans or even on-ice officials, none of which are unacceptable. Already the WCoH Federation has experienced the loss of 10 on-officials even though it’s still in middle of the group stage for current World Cup of Hockey. Due to this, the WCoH Federation recognises that this was of no surprise that Darmeni authorities had these responses, and decides that something needs to be done.

Therefore, World Cup of Hockey Federation hereby fines Darmeni Ice Hockey Federation $50 million Quebecois, and a 3-0 forfeit loss for the upcoming match against Gregoryisgodistan. At the same time, the $35 million Quebecois dollar fine will be ordered for Gregoryisgodistani Government, as well as three-game suspension of 4 Enemy Crushers of choice. I hope something like this will not happen again, or else the penalties will be much harsher the next time.
Yours Sincerely,
Gabriel Tremblay-Sachs, President, World Cup of Hockey Federation
Jacques Lemieux, President, Hockey Quebec
His Imperial Majesty the Jacques IX, Royal House of Jeongs

Tommy's Blog

I don't-I don't believe it, I really don't! What the hell just happened? Constantly being on the offensive and winning game after game and now this? I have the right of mind to go down to the Central Office and beat Bilbo down with a rolled up tomato. I just can't believe this. Undefeated and playing the worst team in our group and we lose? I want someone fired for this. And it's not going to be just Jessica, it's going to be everybody! Right! I'm going down to the Central office and giving them a piece of my mind! We will never be able to live this down. NEVER! I don't care who's fault it is. Everyone had a hand in the embarrassment today. They better listen to me down at the Central Office. DO THEY KNOW WHO THEY'RE DEALING WITH?!

Game was rather boring when it started. Again with back-and-forth misses, and penalties. The Ice Birds got into major penalty trouble this game, with two majors early in the first and many minors following that. Cassidy was the one with the most penalty trouble, like she was frustrated about something. Middle of the first period, a guy from FAS distracted Issac while another deked past Kristen and shot the puck in to finally put a score on the board. The first period ended with the score 1-0 in favor of FAS. Offense was really slacking, especially Cassidy and everyone on the second line. I figured it was just because they were playing an easy team and didn't expect them to try this hard. The Ice Birds finally tied the game at 4:05 off a Victor Rivera crossover. I was relieved to finally see the offense picking up. Throughout the second, I noticed something. The entire team looked as if something was getting to them, like something was bothering them. Not much else happened in the second besides some close goals and penalties. Third period started, and was pretty boring. I was thinking overtime when suddenly, a three-way pass from Forrest Butler to Lyndsey to Jason led to a Torisakia goal at 15:32 and the first lead of the game for the Ice Birds.

We had the game on lockdown. Pretty much had the win licked and stamped. Unfortunately, the celebration didn't last long. At 18:12, an FAS wingman faked a shot at Issac then deked and shot the puck in behind him, confusing the entire team and tying the game. I thought that it was no big deal and we were headed for overtime. Unfortunately, I'm wrong a lot. Dontknowaboutthat. Last minute of the third, Torisakia with the puck, driving to the goal-line was Cassidy. Weaving through the FAS defense, I thought she had a clear game-winning goal. I was just about to jump out of the stands to celebrate when I heard a boing-boing, her shot hit off the top bar of the net and into the stick of an FAS player, surround by two others, going to other way. The three-on-one just took the life out of me and the entire stadium. Issac tried his best to stop the puck, but ultimately failed as it sailed out of his glove and into the net to give FAS the lead with ten seconds left. There was silence, stunned people, and crybaby faces (my own). After the game, no one spoke a word. Like everyone's soul had been ripped out and destroyed.

So that's what happened. Sickening, I know. But we'll just have to move on I guess. Next up is the first game of the second robin against New South Aqmuland, whom we beat in the first robin 5-3 on their ice. If we're lucky, we'll get the win or at least a tie. As long as we maintain our spot in first place in Group 12, I couldn't care less if it's a win or tie. The loss against FAS puts Torisakia at 4-0-1 in the tournament and tied for first place in Group 12 with Nova Anglicana, who's also 4-0-1 in the tournament. Maybe this will be a learning experience for the Ice Birds, and we can use it as motivation to win the rest of the robin and propel ourselves into the playoffs and maybe further. Also, SkyHosting will be performing maintenance on the website today so comments will be disabled for this post. See you all tomorrow.

.:: On-board GyatsoAIR Flight 18762, From Sundari International Airport TO Borschlandia ::.
0120 hours Republic Time, 30 May 2014.2

The plane was silent; not a passenger was awake save for one man in the dead middle of the cabin. The crew of the plane were doing their best to insure a smooth and safe flight for all on-board, and the minute sounds of the cockpit could be heard within the boundaries of the First Class Cabin. This was the second flight for the Ice Bisons; a flight from New Constantine, Korva to Sundari, and then from Sundari to Borschlandia. It was a tiring day, and with what had transpired the night before, many of the men were a bit more excited.

We won a firm victory... Over an unranked team... which hasn't had a single victory in the first five games of the World Cup.

The thoughts of Hakoda Ishii --- Captain of the Ice Bisons and the most prolific face in all of Avatarian Hockey next to that of Head Coach Skirata's --- were the only conscious actions of any passengers. Ishii looked around the space, seeing everyone in one state of slumber or another: Some of the men wore headphones, others wore sleeping masks, and some simply sat in their seats with their heads against the cabin walls and slept perfectly sound.

Ishii looked to his seat partner --- Oto Yaki from the University of the Northern Tribes --- before pulling out his aPad. A quick flurry of finger gestures on the screen brought the device to life, and soon Ishii was analyzing his game.

I got my 99th goal... Just one away from history.

Skirata opened up the game; a solid one-timer from behind the right faceoff circle which Thomas Washington managed to let sail on by over the right shoulder.

We kept the puck tight on the foreplay; only advancing to attack when we knew we had the chance. Korva was a bit sloppy in the first period, but then again so were we.

My goal... Came at 02:12 in the second period from a long pass by Pakku which gave me a slight one-on-one until their defenceman Philipe Rose caught up. I went right, top-shelf. Apparently that was Washington's weakness last night. We talked about it on the bench, just so other players would know the weakness.

The third goal... A beautiful answer after Pat Wolfe danced around Sato and Hong to get the only goal the Korvanites would score.

Finally kept our opponent to a lone goal.... About
haran time.

Where was I?

Oh yes, the third goal.
Tek'tek managed it. He seemed a bit let down that he had been on the bench during the last goal and wanted to get a bit of revenge. I always forget how fast he is on the breakaway. I always forget how accurate he is on a wrister from the right side of the ice.

Everyone else seems to forget it too.

At the very least, we get Hotaka back for tomorrow's game. Hong has been... Alright? No, he has done very good considering it is his first time ever starting. There is a different pressure on you when you start a game versus when you have to play 'clean-up' and Hong has always been a clean-up crew. Forcing him to start wasn't the best thing to do; but with how Bao Lin gave up three goals in the game against Arkiasis?

How were they yesterday? Oh, they faced the Swans and brought them down 5-3. Hmmm, maybe that hit will slow down any momentum for the Borschland team and give us an edge. We need any edge we can get...

And they said this was going to be an easy cup...

Ishii's thoughts trailed as he heard a teammate cough. Jaster? No... Too deep. Sounded more like Akiak he thought as he went back to his aPad. They would be landing in a matter of hours, a quick bus trip to the hotel, a nap before practice before resting more before warm-up before checks before puck-drop.

What is Borschland like this time of year? I should probably check...

Dragonflice: A Recap

Ko-oren 7–2 Estenia
Biluthen 1st 02:40
Zez 1st 05:13
Zez 1st 14:04
Vasiliev 2nd 04:56
Biluthen 2nd 17:51
Biluthen 3rd 06:04
Telain 3rd 19:20

A great way to start the tournament. Ranked 13th, the Ko-orenites are marked to get out of the group, into the final 16. With some luck, we might pull off the quarterfinals, more or less like the Basketball team, which was ranked 10th at the start of the IBC. A win by five goals, albeit against a small team, was amazing. And it marked the start of the era of Biluthen, after Jaragun's leave from the list of starting players (even though he is still on the roster). The new Center scored three times, and backup Center Zez contributed with two goals.

Ko-oren 0–3 Neu Engollon
-

The attacking Ibex took our team by surprise. The odds suggested a draw, or at least a close game, but that they would get a 3-point win in our own home, was something nobody expected. The visitors took a well-deserved win, and they are still defending this lead over us to this day. The Dragonflice are used to structured teams, exactly the way we don't play ourselves, and it might have been the surprising nature of their team (no pros, no pairings) that got the better of us.

Super-Llamaland 0–3 Ko-oren
Biluthen 2nd 16:40
Teradi 3rd 03:39
Huang 3rd 06:27

This was the Game of the Wingers, with Teradi and Huang capitalizing on chances late in the game. Biluthen broke the anonymous Llamalanders halfway through the second period, and the home team made no attempt to repair the damage later on. Teradi, starting Winger, scored early in the third period to make things easier for our team, and Huang scored his first for the Dragonflice.

Ko-oren 2–0 Kinzar
Zez 2nd 14:23
Novotný 3rd 10:04

This was a game we might not look back at much after this cycle. Good wins over Estenia and Super-Llamaland are ok, but a meager 2-0 over Kinzar will probably just work as stat-padding our number of shutouts. Again, the defense held itself well to achieve the second consecutive shutout. Zez and Novotný scored about as late as Biluthen, Teradi and Huang did against Super-Llamaland, and another late escape gave the Dragonflice three points.

Allamunnic States 1–4 Ko-oren
Telain 1st 07:41
Vasiliev 3rd 10:30
Biluthen 3rd 14:22
Biluthen 3rd 17:58

The huge stadium of the Allamunnic States was the backdrop for the last game of the first half. They will visit us in our stadium which seats 9,500 (compare that to the 54,000 stadium in Vienna, Allamunnic States). The Grey-and-Blues kept our Greenblues at bay for just 7 minutes, after which Telain scored a rare goal (as a Defenseman) from far out. Only in the third period (after the equalizer by Karlsunn) did the Greenblues look anything like a winning team, with a goal by Vasiliev and, there he is again, Biluthen. The Grey-and-Blues were a wall, but still were not enough for our team. This is going to be an interesting rematch in Sraltlur, a possible 0-0.

(OOC: I'm starting to like this sad excuse for a nickname... Dragonflice.)

Miss Tipton attempted to meet with the schoolboard in an attempt to find some solution to the Miranda problem. She needed to find a way to find her some full-time housing. Her mom had kicked her out, and

"Well I can't just leave her on the street. She's a child. I know it's unethical for a teacher to be in the care of a child but she's --"

"A whore."

The lady taking minutes glanced up, but went back to typing after a second of disgust.

"How can you even say that? How can you even argue that we can just leave this girl out on the street, or at least argue against me having her."

"Because it's not our responsibility to care about girls that didn't keep their legs closed. It is however our responsibility to watch for ethics violations inside our school system. And housing a student is pretty unethical"

"Then I'll adopt her."

With that, Miranda's mom handed over parental control of Miranda to Miss Tipton, and Miss Tipton gathered all of Miranda's things from her old house and moved them into Miss Tipton's apartment. Unfortunately, being pregnant, it wasn't like Miranda would ever be able to attend school again, it was deemed a distraction to everyone else in the building and a potential issue for herself. Therefore, she decided to do online schooling to finish out her junior and senior year. Sean on the otherhand was able to say. He'd be able to finish out the junior year and stay on the hockey team...The baby would be born in September, right before the start of Senior year.

(Another game without Sherm)

Borschland falls to Arkiasis, 5-3
by Sherm Reinhardt, Special to the Borscher Sporttelegraaf
(Rachael Reinhardt, wife of Sherm Reinhardt, captain of the Borschland XXIV World Cup of Hockey team, is on bed rest with her first pregnancy.)

I decided not to travel with the team to Arkiasis. It would've been a good trip. Arkiasis is a lot like Canada; I think I would've appreciated being able to check out the bright lights like we did in Gyatso-Kai. But Rachael comes first. And I'm not the only guy on the team.

Coaches decided to pull Moordfors this time and put Osthav'n in goal. I don't know it would've mattered that much who was in there. According to the guys, they were an athletic group, none of them that huge, but skated fast. It was a clean game. They just put it together on their ice. Baarda has been the man so far, and he scored to make it 1-1 near the end of the first period, but that was it until late in the third, and we were down 5-1. Ganesmund scored and then Chrujstoff, but we ran out of time.

I'll play against Gyatso-Kai at home. That's a big game, the next game. I think we can beat them at home. We haven't given up a goal at home yet, and you have to travel a long way for one game. It's tough to get acclimatized. Anyway, Rach is holding on-- for now. And so is the team.

Well there we go back to back wins. That’s always a good feeling and I’m sure the Mashers are excited about it. This was a lower scoring affair than our last outing but we at least fixed our penalty kill for this game as they went 4 for 4 on shutting down Crystal Empire’s power play unit. We netted one PP Goal out of the 2 power plays we had in the game so that was okay. This win also put us in striking distance of Nova Anglicana as they too lost to Flammable American States. It seems that team has it out for the leaders of Group 12 as they have now taken down Torisakia and Nova Anglicana. Are we going to be next on their rampage? I certainly hope not, but we better be ready for them.

As for the rest of the group, not much changed except for the Flammable team moving ahead of New South Aqmuland on the group table. If things keep going the way they did in the first half of this tournament then we’ll be sitting in third from here on out, at least by my calculations which are probably completely and utterly wrong. I’d like to see the Mashers move up another spot but other than both Torisakia and Nova Anglicana’s games against Flammable American States I don’t see them losing. We do play them back to back on MD8 and MD9. The hope there is that we can draw both of even win both, which would be our key to making it into one of the top two spots. As for the bottom three of the group, I don’t see them changing much from here on out. FAS is very dangourus right now and we can’t count out Crystal Empire yet either. New South Aqmuland is going to do everything they can to not finish at the bottom, but their changes are not looking good right now.

We’ll just have to wait and see what the last few matches bring.

Four Enemy Crushers suspended three games, Darmen forced to forfeit

As a result of the crushings in multiple Gregoryisgodistan Ice Slaves hockey games, the World Cup of Hockey Federation has announced that four enemy crushers will be suspended for three games each. The Gregoryisgodistan team was allowed to choose the players who would sit out. Horse Beater LAL9120 selected second and third string goaltenders Enemy Crusher Furfy "Junior Fatso" McFattel and Enemy Crusher Crushy Fattyking as well as fourth-line defenders Enemy Crusher Crushallov St. Lind and Enemy Crusher Crushdaguaya Balians. They sat out for the 3-1 win against Esparmuran and will also miss the games against Anditia and Britonisea. As the Darmen game appears to be destined to a forfeit, it will not actually be played and will not count towards a suspension. In the event that the game is played after all, the four enemy crushers will be suspended for that game, making Anditia the third and final game of the suspension. As a result, the four players would be eligible to play against Britonisea if the Darmen game is played, as the suspension will be considered served.

Horse Beater LAL9120 was furious with the decision, saying "This is an obvious attempt to disrupt our Enemy Crushers' activities. If President Tremblay-Sachs ever sets foot in Gregoryisgodistan, he will immediately be executed for interfering with the enemy crushers." Lord Almighty Gregory criticized Horse Beater LAL9120 for declaring the execution order without him, but agreed that it was the right move, saying "Horse Beater LAL9120 is absolutely right, though he should have waited for me. President Tremblay-Sachs will indeed be executed if he ever sets foot in this country. He has interfered with our enemy crushers, and don't forget, he has interfered with our police officers as well, after they executed the corrupt officials."

Gregoryisgodistan will have an off day tomorrow most likely unless a solution can be found in time to play the Darmen game somewhere, and will win the game by forfeit barring further developments. Gregoryisgodistan is currently in first place in Group 11 with 13 points. Darmen and Anditia are tied for second with 12. The forfeit will push Gregoryisgodistan to 16 points, giving them a 4 point lead over Darmen with three games to go. Meanwhile, Anditia takes on the fourth-place team from The Kytler Peninsulae, who has 9 points. One of those teams has to lose (or they can both tie) which really helps the Ice Slaves' chances of advancing. The Darmen match is one of the few forfeits in the history of international sports, and most others have been for rules violations rather than government interference. In the UICA Champions Cup 53 and Globe Cup 50, teams representing Arab County, Estenia, and Puppet of New Koln were forced to forfeit matches after it was revealed they took illicit payments from a gambling syndicate. However, those matches had already been played prior to the forfeiture, and indeed, much of the tournament had concluded. This is a rarity - a game forfeited in advance, and due to government interference rather than anything the team had done to break rules. (OOC: For IC reasons rather than OOC cheating or CTEing.) In fact, we could not find a single example of it in a competition that Gregoryisgodistan took part in, though there may be examples in the early history of multiuniversal sports, before Gregoryisgodistan entered the scene. Some records show that 95X may have forfeited a game due to outside causes at some point, but our records are unclear as to when or why. (OOC: 95X told me he did this on IRC, but I didn't ask for details.)

Ironically, the forfeiture seriously damages Darmen's chances of advancing and all but ends their hope of winning the group. Gregoryisgodistan would have to drop points in two of their final three matches for Darmen to have a shot at taking the group. That seems unlikely the way the Ice Slaves are playing, especially since they are the 8th best team in the world and looking to rise higher in those rankings. The automatic win against Darmen will certainly help the team's chances. Next up, assuming the Darmen match isn't played, is a home game against Anditia on Sunday, New Year's Day, June 1. (OOC: The Gregoryisgodistani year starts in June in honor of Lord Almighty Gregory's Birthday, which is in June. So today is May 30, 2013. Tomorrow is May 31, 2013. The day after is June 1, 2014.) The off day will give the Ice Slaves a chance to spend New Year's Eve with their families before a 7:00 PM Gregoryisgodistani Daylight Time face-off Sunday evening.

OOC: The 65 million Baba fine is based on an exchange rate of 1 Quebecois Dollar being equal to B.1.30.

Mitchell Hellewege was a tired man. He'd received a phone call at about 3 a.m. from the Prime Minister himself to meet at the Prime Minister's office with the Minister of Sport, Georges Thomas. His immediate reaction was that the arguing between Darmen and Gregoryisgodistan had escalated to such a point that a war was underway, but what would the Minister of Sport have to do with that.

After stepping out of the fireplace, which the Floo Network Agency had ever so kindly linked to his apartment, and into the Prime Minister's office, Mitchell noticed that he was the first to arrive. Which was odd, considering that his Caller ID had showed that the Prime Minister had used the phone in this office. However the Prime Minister was there, he had been on his hands and knees behind his desk.

"Dropped my pancake," he said as he stood up.

"Pancakes? Isn't it a bit early for breakfast?" asked Mitchell.

"Quarter past three in the morning? There isn't a finer time to eat breakfast," replied the Prime Minister.

"Do you always eat breakfast this early in the morning?"

"Good Lord no," gasped the Prime Minister, "Normally at this time I'm cuddled up in bed with my Honey, sleeping."

"Sorry, didn't realize you were Pooh Bear," joked Mitchell.

"Ha, ha, very funny. I do wish Thomas would show his ugly head sometime soon, he said it was a matter of the utmost importance."

Both men turned towards the Fireplace, as they assumed that Thomas would arrive via the Floo Network. As they stared into the flames waiting for them to turn green, the door to the office opened. Both the Prime Minister and Mitchell jumped out of their seats.

"What, you haven't ever seen a man walk through a door before?" said Thomas, smartly as if he had planned to startle the two men.

"Why didn't you take the Floo Network?" asked the Prime Minister.

"Well, it's 3 a.m., do you really expect me to remember the address?" answered Thomas.

"'Prime Minister's Office', is that really to hard to remember?" asked the Prime Minister.

"Last time I tried that I ended up at the Minister of Magic's office, apparently he thinks he's the Prime Minister," responded Thomas.

"Oh, I see. Mitchell, have a talk with him later today about that. Anyways, Mr. Thomas, what exactly is it that you thought was so urgent at this ungodly hour of the morning?"

"Well, you see, the World Cup of Hockey Federation fined us 65 million Babas."

"And there's something wrong with that?" asked the Prime Minister.

"Well, no, not exactly," started Thomas, as the Prime Minister raised his eyebrows, "There's nothing wrong with the fine itself. But, well, you see, the fine is 65 million Babas. That's almost 6.5% of our entire Sports budget. And the Ice Hockey Federation's remaining budget for this year doesn't even come halfway to covering the fine. The DIHF wants to pay the fine as soon as possible, but we'll need to add that 65 million Babas to the budget to do it, or it'll be years before the fine is payed off and Ice Hockey in Darmen will be extinct. Not to mention that the World Cup of Hockey Federation seems to think it was our Ice Hockey Federation's decision not to allow the Gregoryisgodistani's into Darmen, when in actuality it was your decision. What kind of a country allows their Ice Hockey Federation to be in charge of immigration?"

"I assume you've already drafted a law?" asked the Prime Minister.

"Yes, and I've already spoken to the Speaker, it'll have its First Reading by 8:30."

"What Committee's do we need to worry about?" asked Mitchell, taking both men by surprise.

"You've only been working here for six months, and you already know how we think? I was going to ask that question?" said the Prime Minister.

"I don't suppose you also have the answer, do you?" asked Thomas.

Mitchell couldn't tell if the two men were mad at him or happy that he knew what he was doing. "I'm assuming the Sport and Finance Committees," he said timidly.

"By George, he's better than Sally," said Thomas.

"I miss Sally," said the Prime Minister, as he gazed off into the distance. He did so for several seconds before realizing he didn't like what he saw. "That would be correct Mitchell. Thomas, how long do you think it will take to pass Committee Stage?"

"Hour, hour an' a half, all depends on how long those bloody Libertarians rant about slashing spending, and on how many amendments to the bill they can come up with. I've already talked to van Schorel, apparently the NLDP will have no problem with the plan."

"They've told us that before," said the Prime Minister, rolling his eyes. "So, then its on to Second Reading, which could take anywhere from five minutes to six hours."

"I'm banking towards five minutes, the Libertarians don't have the necessary support to motion for a prolongment of debate, and certainly don't have the support to stop a motion to end debate early," said Thomas.

"And Third Reading will take about an hour, so we're looking at anywhere from 11:35 to 6:00 p.m. before the bill heads towards the Duke for his approval," said Mitchell.

"I'm glad you've been keeping track," said the Prime Minister, before turning towards Thomas, "which means we can have that fine paid off by about 9 p.m. tonight. Granted I was planning to debate some other bills, but I'm sure banning GMO's can wait 'till tomorrow."

Later that day the Prime Minister wrote a letter...
From: Scat Peari, Prime Minister of Darmen
To: Gabriel Tremblay-Sachs, President of the World Cup of Hockey Federation
Subject: DIHF involvement in a matter of Government

Dear Sir,

I'm writing to you today to clear up a matter of confusion that seems to have arisen regarding the Darmeni Ice Hockey Federation's involvement in the decision to block the entrance of 21 members of the Gregoryisgodistani National Ice Hockey Team into Darmen.

As a Parliamentary Democracy, I can assure you that the nation of Darmen does not allow its matters of Immigration to be decided upon by its national Ice Hockey Federation. The decision to bar the entrance of the 21 members of the Gregoryisgodistani National Ice Hockey Team into Darmen was made following a Cabinet meeting which took place in the evening of the 27th of May. Mr. Javier Baltimore, the President of the Darmeni Ice Hockey Federation, was not present at the meeting, nor was any other representative of the Darmeni Ice Hockey Federation or of the Darmeni National Ice Hockey Team, and were not allowed to have any input into the discussion. The attempts afterwards to provide for a "fairer" game between Darmen and Gregoryisgodistan were made solely by Mr. Georges Thomas, Minister of Sport, Mr. Baltimore, and Mr. Marc Lemaire, Head Coach of the Darmeni National Ice Hockey Team.

The decision regarding the blocking of entrance into Darmen of 21 "Ice Slaves" was made ultimately by myself, and I accept full responsibility for the decision. I do hope this changes the view of the Darmeni Ice Hockey Federation within the World Cup of Hockey Federation at least somewhat for the better.

If in fact there was no confusion about the above mentioned facts, then I do sincerely apologize for trying to clear up a matter of non-confusion.

Sincerely,
Scat Peari
Prime Minister of Darmen

Darmen forfeits game vs Gregoryisgodistan. Implications on Group 11
Greg Frotburg -- Anditon Free Press

In an exciting turn of international events, the Darmeni National Ice Hockey team has forfeited their upcoming game against the Gregoryisgodistan Ice Slaves. The game, scheduled for tomorrow, would pit the highest ranked team in Group 11 (Ice Slaves) vs the second highest ranked team (Darmen). The Anditia Wolverines currently sit in 3rd place in the Group standings - in a point tie (12 points) with Darmen. The high powered Darmen team taking a loss will actually mean that the outcome of this next game that the Wolverines play, against the Kytlerian Knockouts, has much more provenance than it would normally. A win by the Wolverines against the Knockouts would move them into second before facing off against the Ice Slaves, Darmen and finally the IceCaps of Esparmuran.

During their most recent game, the Wolverines squared off against Britonisea, beating them 3-2.
Nation | 1 | 2 | 3 | F
Anditia | 0 | 2 | 1 | 3
Britonisea| 1 | 0 | 1 | 2

Anditon Scores:
1: None
2: Nelson (3) from Van Ryk (5)
Wallock (3) from Lovan (2) and Funar (2)
3: Lovan (1) from D'Aura (5)
The game started with an early score by Britonisea on a tripping call - susceptibly called from mid ice on a play that took place behind the Anditon goal. While scrambling for the puck, Radek Lovan was battling with Britonisea player #32. #32 suddenly fell to the ice, flailing about mocking a fish out of water. The referee, halfway down the rink, immediately blew his whistle citing Lovan with a 2-minute penalty. On the subsequent powerplay, Britonisea was able to score on a slap-shot from the point. Down 1-0 going into the first intermission, Coach Grappo's goal was clear - pressure the Britonisea defense and force them to make a mistake. Going into the second period, this is exactly what the Wolverines did. Following a win of the opening faceoff, Nestor Van Ryk was able to spit the Britonisea wingers to feed a pass to an awaiting Sam Nelson. After losing the puck for a brief period of time, a battle against the boards ensued between Brent Funar and Britonisea Forward #24. Funar was able to hold the puck in the offensive zone long enough for a line change, feeding a sprinting Samm D'Aura. Unfortunately for D'Aura, though his deke was enough to fool Britonisea tender #1, it wasn't enough to fool the pipe - which yelled as it was struck with force. The Wolverines were able to keep the puck either in the zone or near to it for much of the second period. After a short clear by the Britonisea defense, Nestor Van Ryk was able to gain the blue line during a Britonisea line-change, a simple pass feathered to an awaiting Sam Nelson created the movement needed to score, evening the score of the game at 1. Only two minutes later, with a tired defense following an icing, Anditia's first line was once again on the ice. The faceoff was won by Van Ryk, who quickly passed the puck to Brent Funar. Funar went cross ice to Radek Lovan, waiting with a cocked stick. Lovan placed a bullet towards the net - on its way, Mike Wallock was able to deflect it down towards the ice - causing the puck to bounce wildly past the awaiting goaltender. 2-1 Anditia.

The Wolverines clinched the game during the opening minutes of the third period by maintaining their offensive pressure. Following a freeze of the puck, and a subsequent faceoff win by Samm D'Aura (Mikka Thomas was removed from the faceoff due to an early jump), Radek Lovan peppered a shot at the goal from the point, beating the tender high stick side. From this point, up by two goals with 16 minutes remaining, the Wolverines fell into a turtle - drastically adjusting their play to an entirely defensive strategy rather than the offensive pressure that got them the two goal lead. With 2 minutes remaining in the game, Britonisea pulled Goaltender #1 allowing for the extra attacker. This attacker (Forward #11) provided enough zip to get a goal, beating Anders Mikkan on an ugly shot that must have hit two or three bodies before making it in the net. Despite the late game push, Britonisea did too little too late and was unable to score a second goal to tie the game at 3. Final score: 3-2 Anditia.

With the next game being on home ice against a Kytlerian team they had defeated 3-2 previously, we expect the Anditia Wolverines to win infront of a raucous crowd. Our predicted score Anditia 4- Kytler 1

From: Gabriel Tremblay-Sachs, President of the World Cup of Hockey Federation
To: Scat Peari, Prime Minister of Darmen
Subject: Re-DIHF involvement in a matter of Government

Dear Mr.Peari,

Thanks for addressing me and the Federation about this matter. Apparently there has been some confusion over the matter, which was now understood completely by myself, Mr.Lemieux and His Imperial Majesty the Jacques IX. Myself and my dear colleagues have decided that while what happened to the forfeited game was unacceptable in any way, the changed circumstances have made it necessary to change the penalty.

Instead of paying the entirety of $50 Million Quebecois Dollars, the Darmen Ice Hockey Federation will only have to pay for $20 million, which is reasonable based on your nation's sports budget. With the rest however, $30 million Quebecois Dollar will be ordered however, for Darmeni Government to pay to the Federation. This in turn will be used as an emergency fund in case if there's any crisis or need of funding for any nations(including yours) when it comes to hockey.

Thank you for clarification.

Sincerely,
Gabriel Tremblay-Sachs,
President, World Cup of Hockey Federation

Spellcheck Murder: Chaos Reigns in Hicaña Following Bitter Debate

WEST SILLA, HICANA: After the controversial debate over whether to spell the team name of Hicaña "Flyers" or "Fliers", sanguinary chaos is erupting here in the suburbs of our capital.

Lead by their opposition leader, a spelling bee champion and military captain by the name of Jeff Raymond, about 200 men stormed the West Silla town hall, setting it on fire and killing fourteen civilians, wounding nearly a hundred and filling the nation with panic. Police arrived, only to be overpowered by Raymond's ambush and driven back. Nearly the entire county's police lay siege to the smoking ruins of the building, whereupon Raymond gave the order to fire. In the resulting firefight, 38 policemen were killed or wounded, while 46 of Raymond's men suffered similar fates. Raymond himself was caught and killed about forty minutes after the battle ended.

"FLIERS: SPREAD PROFESSIONALISM" banners began to pop up everywhere, and the website www.fliersawareness.com was constructed by the late Raymond's relatives. "CHANGE FLYERS TO FLIERS" petitions, with moderate but varying success, are popping up across the country, and celebrities and spelling-bee champions are joining the Fliers Movement.

The government condemned the "terrorist attacks" but had no comment on the team name itself.

Toucans Dominate 7-0

Postby The Fair Republic » Fri May 30, 2014 7:12 pm

The Fair Republic Toucans continued their impressive start today with a win over Mizuyuki 7-0. The story here as it has been for the other games so far is that. The usually defensive oriented Toucans have been scoring goals fast and furious despite average goal tending by the usually solid Heinrich Kinnel. Kinnel has allowed just under 3 goals a game for Toucans which is troubling but with the Toucans scoring an exceptional 6 goals a game its is not a great concern. Said Kinnel, "I've been practicing hard for the last couple of days and it payed off today with no goals allowed. Hopefully I can carry this over to the next game. John Malcovitch and Patrick Nadier both had hat tricks today and Leonard Petrovitch scored an empty netter in garbage time. The Toucans are now second in the group with a 5-0-1 record behind the Equestrian States with an 5-1-0 record. If the Toucans can keep this play up, they have a chance to make run deep into the World Cup of Hockey.

Other Notes:
Bill Tammolds sat out for the second straight game due to tightness in his hamstrings and is probable for the next game. Joe Smith who has filled in very well will have a chance to keep his spot on the first line and coach Wayne Rechyichch said that Tammolds would have to earn his spot back on the front line and Smith would be the starter for the next game.
