Welcome everyone to the nation of AlianzaAlbos, they want their president Miguel Serrano, is a pleasure that you come to our country to visit us is a pleasure to serve you, our dear tourist, now we will show you some details to help your stay in this nation, here we include the basic details of how to act in this country.

First and foremost we always use Spanish to speak among ourselves. Spanish is the official language. English is spoken by the 93% of the population, something that will be useful for every tourist if you want to enable communication with the locals If you do not understand Spanish and you don't speak English, you can bring or hire your own interpreter and personnal guide in the country.

Our national currency is the GuAlSa, a strong currency if we talk about exchange globally (G$ 0.33 = $1.00 NSDollar or G$ 3.33 = NS$ 1.00), because it's a currency used in five countries, including San José Guayabal, our main provider if we talk about economical and millitary topics, this country is well known for being one of the cheapest in all Rushmore, next we present you a chart with the prices of things you'll use in your stay.

Things you'll need in your stay, prices in NSDolars$ (NS$) and GuAlSa$ (G$)

-Hotel: NS$ 25-200 per night. G$ 7.5-60 per night.
-Bus transport: NS$1.00. G$0.33
-Ferry between islands NS$35. G$11.55
-Average cost of food: NS$3.50-NS$24.50. G$1.15-G$7.35
-Stadium ticket: NS$10-90. G$3.30-27.
-Bottle of water: NS$0.50. G$0.17.
-Public phone: NS$1 per call. G$0.33 per call.

The number for emergencies is 327 (FAS), reachable from any phone, be it mobile or a land-line. Inside some companies, you may find you first need to dial a 1 to reach an external line before dialing 123 as usual, though all companies (from “big business” to restaurants and shops) and other public venues (museums, stadiums, etc) are required by law to display adequate signing advising on this, also the 327 (FAS) comes from the local slang to emergency, FAS.

Emergency vehicles are marked with the name of the service (be it Police, Fire, or Ambulance), and are also equipped with a siren and flashing either blue or green lights. If you encounter one of these vehicles while the lights, the sirens or both are active, please take extra care, and if necessary, pull over at the nearest and safest opportunity, using your turn signal to ensure that the driver of the emergency vehicle is aware of your actions.

Though unlikely, if you need medical care in Valladares, it will not come with a cost to visitors with the appropriate travel insurance. You will find our hospitals are state-of-the-art, with the best equipment, treatments and employees available.

You will find that all police officers are armed with either a standard pistol (9mm) or automatic gun (AK-47) depending of his branch of the Police Force (Metropolitan, Civil, and Order Keepers) they belong to. However, this does not mean they should not be approached if you have a question. In Alianza Albos, the Police Officers have excellent training, and patrol areas they are familiar with, so if you are lost, they are often the best people to consult. First and foremost, though, they are keepers of the peace, and will not hesitate to involve themselves in anything they feel is likely to endanger members of the public, or cause criminal damage to private property.

About AAL National Team

The national team of Alianza Albos was recently created during qualifying for the WC 66 for the purpose of playing some friendly matches against SJG and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Gorod for the preparation of SJG and World Cup course, now Alliance Athos decided to give his jump the maximum global competition and they created their nicknames "Albos or Elephants" but first be released in the BoF 54 and try to do well in this competition, which will compete with a strong base of players who play in Alianza FC of SJG with which they have won two league championships and a considerable number playing in Ultra Blanca AFC, the most outstanding team of Alianza Albos history, then the NT competed in WC 67 Qualifiers and had a good image, now they come back after a period of inactivity and want to do it good, specially in his first Copa Rushmori and which place is better than the house? no one, but can they start to growing up and leave the big shadow of hs brother nation San José Guayabal? let's see what the time says.

Sicoutimont National Football Team

The Copa Rushmori has been a great way to truly show the successes and failures of the national team in the past. The best teams have finished third, and reached the Quarterfinals. The worst teams have failed to get out of the group stage. This Copa may be the last for some Sicoutian team members. Yves Savard took some convincing to play out his final matches here, and his last career match will be the last match Sicoutimont plays at the Copa. Some other players are growing old, but another question mark is Marc Denis, who has reached the legal age of retirement (65). He has stated that he'd love to do this job as long as he feels able, but as he gets older, may he drop one of the national team or club team Lac-Drouin St-Pierre?

Starting XI

Alain Rivcoucher -- East Franz Athletic (PIS) -- Age 26 -- GK
Rivcoucher helped his East Franz team to a Globe Cup spot in the Polarian league, and that plus his great showing at the World Cup and last Copa Rushmori have given him the full-time starting job.

Neal Kent -- 1896 Ebor (MYT) -- Age 33 -- DF
Kent comes into this tournament fresh off 2 straight UICA Champion's Cup victories. This can only burst his confidence, being the first Sicoutian player to win the title, and this experience and confidence will bring a lot to the team.

Loic Leduc -- Matthew City Rangers (NSI) -- Age 30 -- DF
Leduc missed the last Copa with an injury, but his defensive play will be valued in this tournament, and needed if this team finds a way to go deep past the Group Stage.

Yves Savard -- CDSA Decraa (MYT) -- Age 37 -- DF
This is it, the last matches. His storied career, which included some great moments, will be remembered by Sicoutian fans in the years to come, as Yves was a great player for the team.

Oscar de Orebale -- Royal Rumiatzi (ASG) -- Age 34 -- MD
Orebale will be a big help in the midfield for this Sicoutian roster, and his talent can only help this team in the Copa Rushmori.

Jean de Terre -- SK Aassiat Harbour (PIS) -- Age 23 -- MD
While a common theme of this team is that it's getting older, it's good to know the future is in good hands with players like de Terre, who will be the ones who bring this team past World Cup 70, which is expected to be when many of the players who've been with this team since the start will retire.

Vito Ruel -- Sporting Volker (FEL) -- Age 26 -- MD
Ruel made a big splash on transfer deadline day, leaving FC Pierre Beach for greener grounds in Felix for a fee of 20 million dollars. He hopes he can make as big a splash at this Copa.

Louis Desjardins -- Alianza F.C (SJG) -- Age 33 -- MD
Desjardins has become a crowd favourite at Alianza F.C over the past years, and it's mainly due to his talent in the middle of the field. Marc Denis hopes that this talent comes through for Sicoutimont, as he's been somewhat shaky at previous international events.

Gaspard Demaru -- Jan Mayen Islanders (PIS) -- Age 23 -- ST
Demaru, one of the youngest on this team, in addition to Jean de Terre, is expected to help this club for many years in the future, and Denis believes that one of the best ways to prepare him for this is to have him play with the top strikers on this team.

Alex Gannot -- Athletik Thessia (MYT) -- Age 28 -- ST
On this top triad, Gannot is the ball player. While Demaru and Giroux can finish so spectacularly, it's often Gannot who won the ball with a great play, or put in the great cross. Of course, he can score as well. Much of Gannot's great work goes unseen, but is greatly appreciated by his team mates.

Girard Giroux -- Edmonton United (VLD) -- Age 32 -- ST
Girard Giroux, legend of Sicoutian football, returns to the Copa Rushmori at age 32. Although he's not the oldest on the team, he's exiting his prime years. Giroux is still a star, however, and has led this team deep in the Copa before, wanting to do it one more time for friend Yves Savard.

Subs/Reserves
Pier-Luc Dion -- FC Arayat Severyn (MYT) -- Age 33 -- GK
David Smith -- Brigham (EUR) -- Age 24 -- DF
Fernard Girard -- Astograth University (ASG) -- Age 32 -- DF
Martin Blais -- Gesterlake FC (ASG) -- Age 26 -- MD
Hans Richelieu -- AFK Hans Island Pioneers (PIS) -- Age 34 -- MD
Georges Allonts -- Gesterlake FC (ASG) -- Age 34 -- ST
Christopher Savard -- Fontvielle Impact (VLD) -- Age 33 -- ST
Stan Sarault -- Iskara Daii (STB) -- Age 30 -- ST

Notes

Saintland has a very rough style of play and very few fouls in our national league, so don't hesitate to card Sanctii players, especially if Saintland loses. In the Sanctii version of the 4-2-1-3 formation, the outside backs also function as outside midfielders. Prince Andreas is the twin brother of Prince Josephus, the goalie and captain for the Saintland ice & field hockey team and younger brother of King Petrus XX, quarterback and captain for Saintland's gridiron team (and also the new King of Saintland). He is the team captain and also functions as the team's playmaker. Ioannes and Nicolaus Poenius are brothers, as are Silvester, Paulus and Josephus Flaccus, Stephanus and Philippus Vagionius, Petrus and Isaacus Barrius and Petrus and Marcus Jucundius. Andreas Inventius is the brother of Pius Inventius, Saintland's flagbearer at the VIII Winter Olympics. Inventius is a defensive-minded midfielder. Georgius Catiotus is married to Martha Catiotus (maiden name: Pudentilla), the figure skater from Saintland, who won the gold medal at the VIII Winter Olympics. Both Mr. and Mrs. Catiotus competed at the IX Winter Olympics, against the wishes of Prince Andreas, so Georgius Catiotus has been benched for World Cup 68. Stephanus Vagionius is not an especially fast player, but he is very tall and he is an exceptional finisher. Philippus Vagionius is faster than his brother and just as good at finishing. Herakles Karoki, an Acedonian national who was granted Sanctii citizenship prior to World Cup 66, is the star striker and an all-around dominant player. Karoki led the Saintland-Acedonia Unified Team to an Olympic gold medal at the Games of the VIII Olympiad, with a dominant performance and then led the Sanctii National Team to a successful World Cup 66 qualifying campaign. The Poenius brothers both have world-class speed. When Saintland attacks, typically Prince Andreas has possession of the ball and the Vagionius brothers, the center midfielders and the outside backs all try to get open inside the box, but 1 or 2 of them will usually be left back to defend (never Stephanus Vagionius), except when the situation calls for an aggressive attack. Prince Andreas takes free kicks, corners and throw-ins. Karoki will handle penalties. When I have started RPing a match report, I will update my factbook to reflect what happened in the match. I will likely be saving full match report RPs for special occasions from now on.

Saintland boycotted World Cup 67 qualifying, ostensibly over "corruption" in the WCC, but actually because they had no desire to go to either Cassadaigua or the Equestrian States. After Feministvs Sanctvsterra, impersonating this team, earned a Cup of Harmony berth, they decided to end their one-nation boycott and take the spot that had been earned on their behalf. They eventually reached the Round of 16 before being eliminated by Ko-oren.

After the ascension to the Throne of King Petrus XX, he reached out to Josephus Flaccus. Flaccus had defected Saintland following World Cup 65 qualifying and became a star in New Sideburn's domestic league. King Petrus XX worked out a deal for him to return to the Saintland National Team. This led to Saintland's most successful World Cup ever, which concluded with a Round of 16 defeat to Polar Islandstates.

Notes

Irad is a colony of the Free Republics, located in the region of Rushmore. The colony is located on a continent in Rushmore, bordering a body of water known, in Irad, as the Iradian Gulf. Irad was once an independent nation and, in ancient times, was the seat of power for a great empire. The Iradian population is half-Muslim and half-Zoroastrian. Several decades ago, some Islamic terrorists decided to use Irad as a base to wage "jihad" against non-believers, both inside and outside of Irad. After a terrorist attack against the city of New City in the Republic of Orlandiana in the Free Republics, the Republican government used the attack as an excuse to turn the oil-rich nation of Irad into another of their colonies. Today, the Iradians are relatively autonomous, but they still choose to emigrate to the Free Republics in large numbers, angering that nation's notorious nationalist politicians. Although Irad is technically part of the Free Republics and Iradians are technically citizens of the Free Republics, the Republican Constitution does not apply in Irad, a decision made by the victorious Republican military. If the Constitution had been applied to Irad, they would not have been able to set taxes high enough to afford to pay back reparations for harboring terrorists, let alone pay for any other public goods and more importantly, Republican corporations wouldn't be able to seize the Iradian oil fields. Because of this, the Iradian authorities have the power to ban extremist political parties and they use it to ban any Islamist parties or any other parties that agitate for Iradian independence, since the Free Republics do not like to give up their colonies. The Iradian Football Team is coached by Babeke Pezeshekeaan, who has experience as an assistant in the mainland Free Republics. Therefore, they play a relatively attacking style, albeit a defensive style by the standards of the Free Republics.

Faredin Pozenel also plays for the Republican National Team. Since a substantial number of World Cup contenders are located in Rushmore, Pozenel uses the CR for scouting purposes. This paid dividends in World Cup 68 where the Republican National Team won every match they played against Rushmori competition, including victories over defending CoH and CR champion Mytannion and defending World Cup champion Polar Islandstates.

Kernansquillec squad information

Postby Kernansquillec » Sun May 11, 2014 9:22 am

Kernansquillec's Squad for the Copa Rushmori XVIII

General Information
Kernansquillec is back. After competing in multiple World Cups, qualifying for the finals once in 57th edition and finishing 4th in the 42nd Baptism of Fire, football in Kernansquillec came to a sudden halt as war broke out across the country. After reaching the playoffs of the World Cup 68 qualifying campaign despite being unranked this crop of players have shown that they have the same kind of quality to have graced the Green and White squad beforehand. What will the Copa Rushmori bring?

Kernansquillec play forward going football with a style modifier of +3.0 in a 4-2-3-1 formation. All players in the squad play their football in the KERFA league system.

Kernansquillec are known to fans as the Green and Whites, the Kers or the Green Stallions. A big number of fans follow the team around and football is really more of a religion in Kernansquillec than a pastime. If Kernansquillec are playing at least one of the stands will be green.

Kernansquillec's FA, the KERFA, have their own official website with information on all things footbally. You can find it HERE. Please note the website shall not be updated during the Copa Rushmori due to strikes (and OOC: my exams)

Starting XI
P.Lilac
M.Iris A.Noupen Z.Poutre
J.Fengouli X.Quaby (C)
J.Yegos S.Kellah J.Dubois M.Cressac
K.Ellysa (GK)

Substitutes
H.Ferly (GK) K.Stoke R.Bones I.Zorm
J.Maynard P.Al-Perut J.Gigode

Squad Information

Kate ELLYSA GK, n.1, 23 years old (Rennes)
Kate is an young goalkeeper with huge potential. Adopted by a family near Rennes at the age of 4 with her parents presumed dead, life has been hard for Ellysa, but football has given her the chance to shine. A truly dedicated professional.

Mary CRESSAC RB, n.2, 20 years old (Mont Kate)
One of only two players in the squad who have ties with former international players. Mary is one of three daughters who's father is Xavier Cressac, a former star midfielder of the Green & Whites, playing in the side that made it to the group states of WC57. A young and promising right back.

Julian YEGOS LB, n.3, 27 years old (Guingamp)
Julian is one of the experienced faces of the side. Having fought in the War of Independence, football hasn't always been a priority. For many years a mere kick about with fellow soldiers was the best he got. But with the return of peace, he was spotted playing for an Army XI in Kernansquillec City and now plays for Guingamp, the currant First Division champions.

Jean DUBOIS CB, n.4, 25 years old (Rennes du Nord)
Jean and his family had moved to Polar Islandstates before the war started. Football had always been his thing, but despite trials with some top division sides as a youngster he was never offered a contract and spend most of his youth playing in amateur divisions. Aged 21 he decided to return to Kernansquillec to help out with the Red Cross in the aftermath of the war. He was soon spotted by Rennes du Nord and played a crucial role in their promotion to the First Division, playing in a defense that only conceded 15 goals all season.

Stuart KELLAH CB, n.5, 23 years old (Guingamp)
Stuart will line-up alongside club teammate Yegos. A solid center back who's strong performances at center back helped Guingamp win the First Division and make it all the way to the Globe Cup Round of 16. He is also a threat for set pieces.

Julia FENGOULI DM, n.6, 22 years old (Kernansquillec City)
Julia is the Kernansquillec City captain. Despite her side falling short in the race for the title, she is a rock in front of the back four. Anticipation is a key part of her game that sees her intercept and distribute a great number of balls, breaking up dangerous attacks before they have time to develop. She will have to be on top form if Kernansquillec are to do well in qualifying.

Silvio QUABY DM, n.8, 31 years old, captain (New Southampton)
The oldest player in the side, Silvio is, along with Yegos, the padre of the team. He's been given the captaincy of the side, a role that he also holds at New Southampton. Despite his age Silvio is pretty much at the peak of his game. Finding space in midfield is no problem for him and more often that not he will ghost into the gap between midfield and attack, ready to drill any balls in at goal, be it from 18 yards out or 30 yards out.

Marie IRIS LM, n.7, 18 years old (St Markus Youth Academy)
Marie is one of two players from the St Markus Youth Academy to make it into the side. Rumors of a big money move to New Southampton will surely surround the teenager star throughout qualifying, but if she can focus on the task at hand and perform like she has done all season then fullbacks should be afraid, very afraid! Her lightning pace and bizarre technical moves saw her score the U19 Premier League goal of the season in a 2-1 home win against the Louargat Centre de Formation, beating four players before curling the ball past the keeper on a 50 yard run.

Zac POUTRE RM, n.9, 20 years old (Louargat)
The 20 year old plays his football for Louargat. Despite a poor season from his side that was expected to shine, Zac's performances often brought an extra edge to his side's game. Doubts had been raised on wherever he would get the nod, but it would seem that he has done enough this season. Louargat fans will just be praying that he doesn't pick up an injury in qualifying as that would surely be a big blow to them in the run up to the new season.

Adélaïde NOUPEN CAM, n.10, 21 years old (Guingamp)
Adélaïde will be a key player for the national side. Her quality has been on show at the Globe Cup where she played a central role in getting Guingamp to the knockout rounds on their debut. Her partnership with Lilac up front has torn many a defense apart in the league this season. If they can get the NOULI partnership firing on all cylinders this campaign a few upsets may just be on the cards.

Peter LILAC ST, n.11, 19 years old (Guingamp)
Peter is the second player in the squad who has a relation from a former World Cup squad. His father is of course the great Adam Lilac. It was reported that he had been killed in the bombing of Kernansquillec City at the start of the war, but it later turned out that the young Lilac had been pulled from the rubble by rescue workers. The young man led one of many post-war memorial processions, laying flowers at a memorial for the victims of the Kernansquillec City bombing which claimed the life of 95,000 civilians over 3 months, including his parents and older sister. Defense should be warned that his speed can pose a lot of problems. His set pieces are also something to be feared.

Hector FERLY Substitute GK, n.13, 18 years old (St Marie Youth Academy)
The 18 year goalkeeper is the other player from the U19 Premier League to make the cut. A promising young player. However it seems unlikely that he will feature unless Ellysa picks up an injury.

Kim STOKE Substitute CB, n.12, 25 years old (Rennes)
The Rennais center back may fell slightly hard done by with Dubois being picked ahead of him, especially with Dubois playing for the other Rennes team, both of whom enjoy a slightly less-than-friendly rivalry. Both sets of fans are defending their man. But so far Stoke looks as if he should get on well with Dubois despite all this.

Richard BONES Substitute RB, n.14, 23 years old (Kernansquillec City)
The 23 year right back will have to act as cover for both the right and left back positions. Thankfully he is a two footed player and has already played out at left back this season for his club after a few unfortunate injuries.

Isabelle ZORM Substitute DM, n.15, 21 years old (St Marie)
The St Marie midfielder probably wasn't expecting a call-up with her side finishing before last in the First Division. However they did have a pretty decent defensive record, conceding a mere 16 goals, as many as the second placed side Kernansquillec City. But the call came and even if she will have to accept not being first choice, she will probably get chances to show what she can do on the big stage at some point these championships.

Justin MAYNARD Substitute RM, n.16, 17 years old (Louargat)
Justin is the youngest player in the squad at a mere 17 years of age. The right midfielder is currently evolving at Louargat after getting promoted to the senior side from their centre de formation within the first few weeks of the season. He has impressed as an impact substitution and his youthfulness will surely be exploited by Sandheart.

Pascale AL-PERUT Substitute CAM, n.17, 25 years old (New Southampton)
Al-Perut was a young helicopter pilot during the war. Like many of her teammates in the squad, the war has played a big part in her life and she was fortunate not to lose her life when her helicopter went down near Binic. She broke her leg in that incident, but she was eager to get back on her feet and joined New Southampton at the end of the war after an open trial day.

Jay GIGODE Substitute ST, n.18, 22 years old (Louargat)
Louargat may have finished mid table, but they were still the second best goal scorers in the First Division. Jay Gigode has mainly been part of a front two with his club, but he's been called up for what should be more or less a rotation role as Lilac is clearly Kernansquillec's number one striker. But he will have a role to play and the team will be counting on him to provide some goals when he is involved.

The Coaches

Rachael SANDHEART, Manager
The first ever female coach of the national side, Rachael is a figure of authority in the international set-up. Hand picked by KERFA after impressing managing the semi-professional New Southampton before the new league system was set up, the 42 year old is famed for wanting a high pressing game with mobile attacking unit. Accurate and fast passing is key. Expect her to set up the team for free-flowing attacking football.

Amelia VAN DER PON, Assistant Manager
The faithful assistant of Sandheart was also at New Southampton before they turned professional. However recent rumors have stated that the 41 year old is looking for a return to club management.

The Squad

Coaches

Head Coach: Siolæsĉigu Marcu Foda Maria
Marcu Foda Maria, like all Isulans, is a gentleman and a scholar. He holds the title of Siolæsĉigu, translated as "scholar" or "academic", and utilizes extensive tactical strategy in his management of this squad. Unique amongst the remainder of the coaches and players, he has no club affiliation, instead utilizing his tactical mind for more noble and quiet pursuits, such as chess or poetry, two things which he is widely considered to be quite excellent at. This is his first tournament as a coach, as it is the first international tournament for any Isulan National side.

Assistant: Samuél Saidolaru Aĝuu (Maria CF)
Should somebody not know better, they would think Samuél was the manager. Dressed in a suit and tie, as a sharp contrast to Marcu's mandatory scholar's robes, and shouting out the orders which Marcu gives during each match, it is he who is perhaps the clearer face of the side. He is, however, very much the assistant to the Scholar, consulting the man for tactical advice. It is he who is the vehement, passionate loudspeaker for the cool and calm tactical mind that is the Scholar. Don't get the wrong idea, however. Samuél is not a shallow man. His managerial skills have led league powerhouses Maria CF to two conscutive titles, as well as a cup title.

Players

Starting XI

Keeper: Caĉiiu Ricadu Sinha (Maria CF)
Caĉiiu is widely regarded to be the best keeper in the nation. He is the man, along with Striker Elhu Micaila Saidosaquera and Manager Samuél Saidolaru Aĝuu, who has been credited with leading Maria CF to their top status as the single most successful team in Isula ĝe Ru. Caĉiiu, as per most Isulan tactics, is a fairly athletic keeper, always prepared to receive a pass from a teammate and even control the ball for some periods of time.

Left Back: Iacobu Ĉarlu Alassæra (Isula Are Esĉer)
Iacobu is a versatile, all-around defender who is always prepared to play forward when the team is attacking. Despite being slightly reluctant to go back to his position, he was chosen for the National Team thanks to his rough style, powerful running, and communication skills.

Center-Back: Dabiit Ducau Ĉiaba (Olympi)
Dabiit has already cemented himself as one of the premier defenders in the Isulan League. Content to stay back and contain the ball and the game, he is perhaps the most conservative of the Isulan back four. Expect to see him taking his time, calmly turning away advances and breaking up passing attempts.

Center-Back: Ioa Maria Rusu Lara (Olympi)
In an effort to presever chemistry, Ducau Ĉiaba and Rusu Lara were kept in their club team's position, where they provide the backbone for league powerhouses Olympi. Ioa Maria will move up a little further than Dabiit, and is prepared to push forward in an effort to provide linking passes or even score.

Right Back: Ioura Masu Eĝia (Arĝa CF)
The Arĝan defender is perhaps the oldest on the team, and arguably the most experienced. The veteran's age, however, has not diluted his style, which is agressive and vicious. Though he is the most likely to recieve cards or fouls, he is also the one who can effectively shut down the entirety of the Right side if he chooses, and that he will do so without being called is a gamble Marcu Foda Maria is all too willing to take.

Midfield: Bilha Saidomarcu Domique (Esĉelha Siripta Saiude)
Bilha's style and manner, both on and off the field, is usually only the second thing opposing players will notice, the first being the magnificent beard he keeps at all times. This bald-headed, bearded beast of a man is the team's main scorer, and an excellent chance at both power and finesse shots. He is the powerhouse of the team and usually the bane of Silver League keepers.

Midfield: Micaíl ĝ'O Isula Maria (Esĉelha Siripta Saiude)
Bilha's teammate Micaíl is the other half of a partnership which has worked wonders for Esĉelha Siripta Saiude throughout the league. Micaíl sits back, takes the ball and controls it well, then the team's main distributor unleashes one of his trademark square-balls in an effort to puncture the opposition's defenses. More often than not, this works wonders.

Left Wing: Ioa Maria ĝe Gaubilha (Club ĝ'Ocĉiu)
The Winger's job in the tactics laid out by Marcu Foda Maria is to control the ball down the flanks, receive distributing passes from the middle, and move the ball as far forward as they can, as efficiently as they can. These are instructions Ioa Maria follows to the letter. The player makes Isulan matches fun and engaging to watch, not the least because he is the second player on the starting XI names "Ioa Maria"

Forward: Elhu Micaila Saidosaquera (Maria CF)
There is no striker in the nation better than Elhu. The man is the foot behind most of Maria CF's triumphant goals, and has been instrumental in leading the team to back-to-back Silver League titles. He is now looking for further glory and opportunity on the International stage.

Forward: Ala Samuél Ĝea (Ĝa CF)
Samuél Ĝea is the face of a Ĝa CF team that desperately needs such a face. Athletic and nimble, he is the perfect complement to Elhu's quiet flamboyance, and the two, despite generally being opponents, have rapidly developed a bond that hopefully will lead to balls in the back of the net.

Right Wing: Mitu Maria Albu Saida (Isula Esiru)
The right is perhaps the weaker side on the Isulan team, and it is the young winger's job to secure the side. Though he is young, naive, and sometimes reckless, Mitu Maria is a player with promise, and one who is expected to lead the team.

Substitutes

Keeper: Micaíl Ĝetou Saidosata (Club Cæa)
Defense: Laudo Cailha Eara (Ĉeĉali CĝF)
Defense: Samuél ĝe Auri (Isula ĝe Ru)
Midfield: Ies Lenha Esto (Maĉia)
Midfield: Iulho Maria Seta (Maria CF)
Forward: Aier Sel Sol (Ĝa CF)

Responsibilities

Penalties: Bilha Saidomarcu Domique
Free Kicks: Bilha Saidomarcu Domique
Right Corners: Mitu Maria Albu Saida
Left Corners: Ioa Maria ĝe Gaubilha

Tactics

The Isulan game is a unique one, revolving mostly around ball control, and a massive amount of through-runs as the main manner of setting up scoring. In fact, the Isulan squad will generally prefer to dominate possession in the middle third of the pitch, forfeiting possible openings and shots in favor of waiting for the chance to spring forward, pass the ball in stride, and hammer it into the goal. The game, then, will revolve around quick, blazing strikes surrounded by periods of ball control and passing battles.
On defense, Isulans are never afraid to pass back to their keeper, a fact that can lead to trouble. The main role of the defense on an Isulan team is to send the ball back into the midfield battle, a battle that will always occur when playing against the Isulans.
Besides the lightning-quick through runs and one-twos which punctuate long periods of possession struggle, Isulans delight in corner kicks, seeing them as a grand opportunity to score, and generally capitalizing on this opportunity.
In this way, the Isulan game is both technical and fast, both demanding and exhilarating. While some teams may not see the amount of goals they are used to, that does not mean the game will be any less hard-fought and exciting.

Some characteristics of Isulan football:

Restricting play to a midfield battle
Punctual through runs and long balls in quick jabs at goal
1-on-1s with opposing keepers
Passing back to the goaltender, even at times when such a move seems impractical
Goals from corners
Sportsmanship and honor

The Lac-Drouin Times
Sport: Border Battle Headlines Sicoutian Side of CR18 Group Draw Story; Transfer Headlines

ALIANZA ALBOS -- Sicoutimont and Cassadaigua will meet in the first round of the Copa Rushmori. That was the big story from the group draw for Sicoutimont, playing in their 8th Copa overall. Recently, the two friendly rivals have met in the 23rd World Cup of Hockey (Won by Cassadaigua), the Copa Rushmori de Beisbol (Won by us en route to the championship), and the NSCAA Hockey 1 Finals, won by us. This is the first time, however, that the two will meet on the pitch at the Copa Rushmori. There is other news of the day to report, however, and we'll get to that all in a second. But first, the group and schedule for Sicoutimont at the Copa:

Group F
Cassadaigua
Sicoutimont
New Ponyville
Dixhuitiles

Matchday 1: Sicoutimont vs New Ponyville
Matchday 2: Cassadaigua vs Sicoutimont
Matchday 3: Sicoutimont vs Dixhuitles

Sicoutimont is the highest-ranked team using Copa Rushmori ranks, but Dixhuitles is not far behind. Now, as promised, the other news of the day in football. Some big pieces of information were moving last night as the Multiverse-Wide Transfer Event got underway. Sicoutian clubs were uncharacteristically quiet, but the few moves were big ones. Lac-Drouin City kicked off the window for Sicoutian clubs, buying Audioslavian midfield Calixto Prudentzio from AC Iztotz Zubia for a large fee, rumoured to be in the area of 15 million. That was a buy LDC fans have been waiting for for a while, needing a strong defender or defensive midfield to aid Yves Pantani in the back field. Prudentzio, on the Audioslavian national team for the last World Cup, is expected to be a big help in the seasons to come on defence.

Sicoutian clubs were quiet again for a long while, until Real Ile Perrot made a move. Antonio Jukic, a centre back from Pasarga, will be joining the team for the upcoming season. He comes from the club Preussen Kitzbuhel in the Mytanar league, which has closed, more on that later. Real really needed a defender, just like city, and Jukic, who aided Pasarga in a deep run at the last World Cup, was seen to be the fit in the back end. Real were especially happy to get the 26 year old on a free transfer.

As we said earlier, the Mytanar league has halted operations for the next while. For Sicoutians in the league, especially on the national team, it was a question of should I stay or should I go. For Stan Sarault, who hasn't exactly became the star he was expected to be, it was go. He jumped at the chance to sign for legendary Starblaydi club Iskara Daii, former home to Simeone Di Bradini, namesake of the Di Bradini Cup. The undisclosed amount hasn't been revealed, and it is believed that when the call came, Sarault jumped at the chance for a fresh beginning. Since arriving in Mytannion for Athletik Thessia, he hasn't had great success, and hopes for a fresh start at the age of 30.

That was all the transfers on the international front last night. At home, Louis Lafayette moved from Lac-Drouin Capitales to Lac-Drouin St-Pierre. St-Pierre was in need of a striker, and after failing to acquire one, they sent a bid for Lafayette. However, the 6.2m fee is not a final deal. Part of the deal says that St-Pierre can still search for another striker until 2 weeks before the season. If they do not find one, Lafayette remains with the club. If another striker is signed for a higher price than 6.2m, Capitales will retain Lafayette. The player may play in pre-season friendlies or exhibition matches for St-Pierre.

Transfers could still be on the horizon for many players, however. The Sicoutian National Transfer Window closes 2 weeks before the season, or 2 months from this date. That's plenty of time for St-Pierre to find a striker after Formerio Irturalde's retirement, and rumour has it that they've been turning the wheels across the world for a top talent. Other players also need new homes with the halt of the Mytanar league, namely former league MVP Alex Gannot and star defender for 1896 Ebor Neal Kent. It's unlikely Kent will move, though, as his Ebor team competes in the Champion's Cup (IC'ly later in the year). Gannot would like to move, though, and sources have linked him to many clubs across the world, and at home, namely Lac-Drouin St-Pierre and SC Castle 1724. Still with much football to play at age 28, he'd be a great buy for a team in a Champion's Cup position. Other players coming home include keeper Pier-Luc Dion, and the retiring Yves Savard, who had hoped to find a manager's job in Mytannion after he was done playing. Could Savard be the next manager of the Emperor Hill Rangers, who sacked Jean Lalette after the disastrous 18th placed season?

It's unlikely, though, that Savard will manage that team. A more likely option for him is Series-2 side FC du Lac, once a top league mainstay, now fighting off relegation to Series-3. Speaking of the manager hunt for the Rangers, Luc Gaudreau, who returned home after the collapse of Slembana (the only manager not to be sacked by that team), might want to move up again from the role he took as Lac-Drouin St-Pierre's assistant. But, would the 49 year old want to give up his place as Marc Denis' successor, as the latter can't manage forever.

The other major story involved Team Sicoutimont for the Copa Rushmori touching down in the capital of Alianza Albos, La Popular. The team does not yet know where they will play, but made some comments upon touching down. Girard Giroux said, ''We're very happy to be here, back to the Copa. We know we can get just as far as we went last time, hopefully further.'' Yves Savard reminisced, saying ''I began my international career with a 3rd place at this tournament, maybe I could go out with a few places higher. We'll all have to compete hard for that to happen, and we'll need to play the best tournament this team has ever played. Is it possible? I think we can do it.'' Manager Marc Denis was more assertive, saying ''I know the boys want to do it for Yves, but we've got to focus on the group stage for now. It's tough matches, very tough, but if we can get through there, anything can happen.''

We'll be back with highlights and results from Match 1 at the Copa Rushmori, from Alianza Albos. Remember, The Lac-Drouin Times is the only newspaper with full access to Team Sicoutimont!

Head Coach

Ernesto Farías
Veteran former international striker who played a key part in Sargossa’s very first national squad. Farías has held numerous roles within the international structure, including two caretaker spells in charge of the senior side. Most recently manager of SuperLiga side Ciudad Soluca before replacing the departing Iarlaith Mag Aonghusa at the Corsairs’ helm.

Backroom Staff

Assistant Head Coach: Elías Carrasco
Defensive Coach: Germán Moya
Attacking Coach: Rubén Contreras
Goalkeeping Coach: Silvio Romero
Fitness Coach: Sergio Castellanos
Technical Coordinator: Alejandro Echeverría
Team Doctor: Dr Iván Morelli

Talent

GK: 1. Ezequiel Medrán (32) – Sporting San Marquez
Long ago picked out by former national coach Martín Tejera, who knew a thing or two about goalkeeping, as one to watch. Undisputed first choice in the Sargossan goal.
GK: 13. Armando Abad (26) – Dínamo Maturín
Such is the bend on this lad that there is a continuing suspicion that Armando may actually be partially elastic.
GK: 25. Emilio León (21) – Sportivo Soluca
A regular in the Sportivo goal at the age of just 19, big things are expected of the young shot stopper.

DR: 2. Cristiano Damían (24) – Astograth University (Astograth)
An eyebrow or two were raised when Astograth University snapped up a little known youngster from Ciudad Soluca. But he’s since proved that the ‘Grathi’s had got themselves a bargain.
DRC: 5. Guillermo Lucena (21) – Ciudad Soluca
A favourite of Farías after serving him well in the Under-21 team, the Olympic Squad and at Ciudad. A solid defender with an excellent reading of the game. Equally adept at centreback or fallback.
DLC: 6. Mauro Fernández (33) – Ciudad Soluca
Rugged yet imperious, a rock at the back for Ciudad and a suitably impressive barrier for the national side too. Unlikely to win any prizes for elegance but when Mauro clears the ball it stays cleared.
DL: 3. Mauricio Abeyta (23) – Alianza Jucaro
A buccaneering fallback who clearly longs to be a winger. An attacking threat down the left with a powerful shot and accurate cross. Unfortunately his defensive duties are sometimes forgotten.
DC: 12. Matías Sosa (30) – Liria Prizren (Mytannion)
A free scoring centreback whose temperament has been known to get him in a spot of bother. So he probably feels right at home in Mytannion.
DR: 14. Cristón Espinal (22) – El Nacional
A rightback by trade but often pressed into service in the centre of defensive during an injury crisis in Goza last season. Another former member of Farías’ Olympic Squad.
DLC: 19. José Toranzo (28) – Perntav Marna TU (Earent)
Can play at both left fallback and in the centre of defence, looking equally accomplished in both positions. Currently plying his trade in Earent.
DC: 21: Aurelio Pascual (27) – Sportivo Cordova
Only a dearth of strong centrebacks has kept Pascual out of national team reckoning for this long. But after strong domestic season has finally seen the Cordova man force his way into the squad.

DMC: 4. Lucas Ramís (33) – Sporting San Marquez
Strong in the challenge, unafraid to get stuck in, Lucas is a midfield destroyer of the highest order. Despite his age, a vital component for both club and country.
AMR: 7. Javier Jerez (31) – Sporting San Marquez
A tricky winger with plenty of technique but a willowy frame that struggles to compete with the game’s more physical practitioners. But still the best supply of crosses in the squad.
MC: 8. Rodrigo Defederico (31) – Oyardo FC (Astograth)
A talented midfielder who once had every Sargossan club of stature fighting over his signature. But the playmaker turned down the likes of Sporting San Marquez and Ciudad Soluca to make the move to Astograth.
AML: 11. Federico Cifuentés (21) – Dínamo Maturín
It’s entirely possible that Federico could have represented Sargossa at the Olympic 100m, such is the pace hidden away in his diminutive frame. A real terror for opposition fallbacks, although a consistent delivery shy of being genuinely world class.
AMRC: 15. Flavio Freitas (23) – El Nacional
A tireless attacking midfielder whose impressive work rate and never say die attitude make him a firm favourite among Gozans and neutrals alike.
MC: 16. Germán Sauseda (22) – Ciudad Soluca
Midfield playmaker with a prestigious range of passing. Sauseda stood out in a fairly average Porto Alegro Azul side that consistently punched above its weight. Brought to Ciudad by Farías a year ago.
AML: 18. Sebastián Canteros (30) - Perntav Marna TU (Earent)
Started life as a striker before the youth coaches at the Ciudad Deportiva decided that such crossing ability was wasted in the centre. Has joined Toranzo in Earent.
DMC: 22. Matías Escobar (29) – Marinos Metropolis (Valladares)
A midfield destroyer who can run all day without breaking a sweat. Consistently good performances in the Liga De Fuego led to a move abroad.
AMLC: 24. Ivan Ávila (30) – Ciudad Soluca
A regular understudy for the great Alejandro Echeverría at the Estadio Generalissmo Joaquín Delgado and with the national side. He may have turned thirty but finally the patience should pay off.

FC: 9. Federico Ferreyra (30) – Urbizania Wanderers (Astograth)
A penalty area predator who made his name for little Nuevo Onwere before making the move to Astograth. Swapped the purple of Gortz Utd for the altogether greener, quite literally, pastures of Urbizania Wanderers.
FC: 10. Stefano Bustos (25) – Sportivo Soluca
At 6’4” the Sportivo targetman is a real threat in the air and adds the perfect option if the ‘hoof it to the big fella’ card needs to be played.
FC: 17. Federico Noyola (22) – Sporting San Marquez
Yet another gem unearthed from the barrios of San Marquez and polished by ‘El Academia’. Has an uncanny knack of being in the right place and the right time and has proved a scourge of SuperLiga defences because of it. A natural successor to Ferreyra.
FRC: 20. Saturnín Quinteros (24) – Ciudad Soluca
Big things were expected of a forward who caught the attention with a seventy four goal season for one of Ciudad’s many youth teams. Often used as an attacking midfielder at club level by Farías so more of the same could be expected here.
FLC: 23. Gelson Di Santo (30) – Sportivo Soluca
A real find from the Ciudad Soluca academy who was used sparring for both club and country but tends to rise to the opportunity when given it. But he grew tired of being used so sparingly and made a controversial move across the capital.

Copa Rushmori XVIII: Preview

(SP) Following our Kingdom's mysterious arrival in Rushmore, we will now compete in the 18th edition of the Copa Rushmori. The Copa Rushmori is Rushmore's regional championship. The tournament is highly prestigious and features some of the most formidable soccer nations in the multiverse. The full Saintland National Team will be participating in a regional tournament for the first team. The relatively unknown Alianza Albos will host this edition of the CR, having beaten out a bid from Taeshan. "After our success at the last World Cup, our goal in the Copa Rushmori is to win the competition and come into the 69th World Cup cycle with momentum on our side. We will face formidable opposition, but we have faced formidable opposition before. This tournament is all about form and we've got to get back into it after several weeks off." - Prince Andreas

This edition of the Copa Rushmori uses the conventional 8 groups of 4 format, the same format used in every edition of the World Cup finals. The Saintland National Team was drawn into Group B. The first opponent for the Sanctii, ranked 18th in the world, is 96th ranked Charruterra. Charruterra debuted in the 49th Baptism of Fire, participating in a tough group that also included Super-Llamaland, Gaveo and Maklohi Vai. They went 2-2-1, finishing 3rd while Falcania, who have since been all but forgotten, managed to win the group. Nonetheless, because BoF 49 only contained 6 groups, they earned a spot in the Round of 16 and would eventually fall to Kintratar in the quarterfinal that was held in the Licentian Isles. In qualifying for World Cup 62, they managed a pathetic 2 wins and 12 defeats and finished 7th in a group of 8. Needless to say, they were not invited to the Cup of Harmony.

They made their Copa Rushmori debut in the very next edition, the 12th. They managed to finish 3rd in their group, just ahead of Mytannion. Once again, this was enough to get them into a playoff and they would win their playoff before falling to Sargossa. This led to an upswing of sorts in the following World Cup qualifying. They went 5-2-11, which was slightly less pathetic, but they finished 8th in their group, which now had 10 teams. That was still not enough to earn an invite to the Cup of Harmony, however. They returned for the 13th CR and managed 2 draws in 3 matches, failing to advance out of the group stage. Then, they actually managed a non-losing record in World Cup 64 qualifying, going 7-5-6. That, also, did not result in a CoH invite for them and they sat out the 14th edition of the Copa Rushmori.

Upon their return to World Cup qualifying, they returned to their losing ways. A record of 6-3-9 left them fair from qualification once again. Another Cup of Harmony went by, without an invite. Then, Saugeais brought the Holy Casaran format to the 15th edition of the CR. Charruterra would finish 6th in the 32 team field, with a 3-1-1 record, but they, unsurprisingly, were routed 4 goals to 1 by Mangolana in the Round of 16. Then, they had a debacle of a World Cup 66 qualifying, managing just 2 wins and 3 draws in 10 matches and finishing 5th in their group. Then, the 16th Copa Rushmori came to Charruterra. They went 1-1-1 in the group stage and went on to defeat Eastfield Lodge and Mapletish to earn a spot in the semis. That led to their elimination at the hands of Saugeais, on penalties, and another defeat on penalties against Pasarga. Seemingly, they had all of the momentum in the world on their side.

All of that momentum was only worth a 7-1-8 qualifying campaign and another Cup of Harmony without an invite. Upon returning to the CR for the 17th edition, Charruterra would finish with a win and 2 draws in the group stage. That placed them second in their group, behind Darmen due to a tiebreaker and ahead of Irad by a point. Taeshan eliminated them in the Round of 16. They would manage a 5-4-5 record in World Cup 68 qualifying, their second ever non-losing record in qualifying, and would not be invited to the Cup of Harmony for the 7th consecutive time.

The second match for our National Team will be against Svengarda. Svengarda will be competing in their first Copa Rushmori, but the 48th ranked team in the multiverse debuted at the same place as Charruterra, BoF 49. Svengarda had a much stronger debut, managing to sweep their group, which notably included Estope, and going on to win the entire thing. In fact, they did not even need extra time until the final, when they had to go to penalties to defeat Swyftlandre. Nonetheless, they went just 5-1-8 in qualifying for World Cup 62 and would manage just 2 draws in 4 Cup of Harmony matches. In the following World Cup qualifying, they would manage to break even at 8-2-8 and returned to the CoH, where they managed a single win in 4 matches.

Then, out of nowhere, they qualified for World Cup 64. With a 12-2-4 qualifying campaign, they managed to defeat the likes of Kandorith, Cosumar and, most impressively, Turori to finish second to Vilita in their group. Following 2 victories against Kinitaria in the playoffs, both by the score of a goal to nil, they were qualified for the World Cup. However, they managed just a single draw before being sent packing. They would not repeat that feat in World Cup 65 qualifying. Instead, they finished with a 13-1-4 record, identical to Paradystopia's record, and Paradystopia took the tiebreaker. They were invited to the Cup of Harmony, which was the one hosted by Cassadaigua and the Equestrian States. In Cassadaigua, they were the only team that the Saintland National Soccer Team would defeat, by a 1 goal to nil margin. Svengarda would go 2-1-1, win the group, and be taken out by the Inevitable Syndicate in extra time of their Round of 16 match.

Svengarda hit rock bottom during World Cup 66 qualifying. With a 4-3-3 record, they finished a distant third behind Farfadillis and Kandorith, in a World Cup qualifying campaign where only the group winners qualified. That performance was followed by an absence from the Cup of Harmony. This made it all the more remarkable when they returned with a vengeance in World Cup 67 qualifying. A 13-2-1 record put them atop their group, ahead of the always formidable Zwangzug and Ko-oren. Once again, they managed just a single point in the World Cup finals. In the most recent World Cup Qualifying, they won 10, lost 4 and finished second in their group. In the playoffs, they were eliminated by Taeshan and would, once again, not receive a Cup of Harmony invite. Now, they will make their Copa Rushmori debut.

The final opponent for us will be Mytannion, who debuted in the 40th BoF and made their CR debut in the 4th edition. Mytannion are currently ranked 10th in the multiverse and are the defending CR champions. They were also the champions of the 59th Cup of Harmony and were defeated by the Republicans in the quarterfinals of World Cup 68. Long before that, they made their CR debut with 4 straight wins in the group stage, at a time when the CR consisted of 4 groups of 5. In the Quarterfinals, they fell to Isla Pilsen. During the following CR, they finished 3rd in their group behind Saugeais and Polar Islandstates with a 1-2-1 record. They advanced, but only to the Round of 16. The 6th CR was more of a same. Once again, the Mytanars made it to the Round of 16 and once again they fell in that round.

After pulling out of the 7th Copa Rushmori altogether, they returned for the 8th edition and lost all 5 of their matches. That was such a debacle for them that they pulled out of the Copa Rushmori entirely until Copa Rushmori XI. There, they managed to go 2-1-0 in their group, beating out Eura and Sargossa for first in the group. Then, they lost in yet another Round of 16. They wouldn't even make it that far in the 12th CR. A 1-2-1 record left them in 4th place in their group, behind Valladares, Ancharmunn and Charruterra. After an absence in CR 13, Mytannion returned for the 14th edition and went 1-1-4, finishing a distant 3rd in their group. It must have seemed like they would never make it back to the knockout rounds, much less finally win a knockout round match.

However, they would obtain that victory in the 15th Copa Rushmori. After a 2-1-2 Casaran Stage, they narrowly earned a spot in the Round of 16. This time, they managed to defeat Eastfield Lodge, but Darmen would eliminate them in the Quarterfinals. After 2 wins and a defeat to Polar Islandstates, Mytannion advanced to the knockout rounds of the 16th CR. Then, they defeated Filopines to earn a spot in the Quarterfinals once again. However, a defeat to Saugeais put them out of the CR, once again failing to reach the Semis. In the meantime, they had won the 56th Cup of Harmony and would also win the 59th. After winning that second trophy, they returned to the CR once again, for its 17th edition. After finishing atop their group, even after a loss to Astograth on the 3rd matchday, Mytannion was taken to penalties by Eastfield Lodge, but they eliminated Eastfield Lodge for the second time in 3 CRs. Then, they defeated Taeshan and Saugeais to earn a spot in the Final. After a 3-2 victory, they were finally Copa Rushmori champions. Yes, this isn't going to be an easy group for the Saintland National Soccer Team.

Following the Falconian Football Player's Strike (that turned out horrifically for the strikers, as one of the amateur replacement teams made it to Falcus' first UICA final; all they accomplished is proving Falcus had an untapped talent motherload), many former Falconian stars are left without a team if they had decided against the move to sign abroad. Those with <none> listed for their team will be looking to make the jump abroad, so as to not have to face the shame of crawling back to their old teams looking for a job. They'll be giving up and doing that crawling if they don't find a place to play soon, so if you want to sign any of them, TG me.

(Blue means male, Green means female, a star by the position means they're probably close to retirement)

Manager: Puga Droffilc (55) [Fipinian/Normal: Clifford Agup]
The Senippilihp-born Alitaban took over the reins from Ovid Tisang, after the latter was sacked for a dismal performance by the Manggugubat in the previous Copa Rushmori in Charruterra. He is a laid back manager who lets the game flow to the result whatever the situation the team is in.

MANAGERIAL STAFF
Manager: Gwyn Juniper
Perhaps the 2nd greatest player in Taeshani history, Juniper has finally been handed the reigns of the national team job. Gwyn's first world cup qualification attempt fell just short of leading the nation back to the world cup, 1 goal short in fact. Now for a second time Gwyn leads his team into the Copa Rushmori with a B squad mostly intact from the previous one, with lots of talented, experienced players in the team.

Assistant Manager: Elijah Knickerbocker
As many expected Juniper has brought up long time friend and teammate Elijah Knickerbocker to be his assistant. Knickerbocker has been the U21 coach for a few seasons and now moves up to help out on the full level. He was captain of the National team in the years before Juniper and is a strong leader and will help keep the Knights in line.

GOALKEEPERS

1 - Nick Garden - Real Atlantea 6 Caps, 27 Years Old
The new B team starter proved rather serviceable in the last Copa Rushmori. In his six stars he managed to keep the other team off the board for the most part. This tournament will likely be his proving tournament, with Joe Jackson nearing the end of his career it is time for Garden to make his point for being the next starter.

23 - Jim Horton - Yaton FC 0 Caps, 29 Years Old
The backup will be Yaton's Jim Horton who although very skilled is not likely to see much action and is really just a stop-gap.

24 - Myung Wook Yu- Bayern-Algaer 1 Cap, 24 Years Old
Third string keeper.

DEFENDERS

2 - LB, Dusty Latrine- Blacklake Blues 15 Caps, 30 Years Old
Dusty Latrine is likely to be the full starter come the qualifying campaign with longtime left back Jeremiah Longwaters officially retiring from international play. He will mark a different player than Longwaters with less forward movement and more of a basic defensive ability adding little to the attack.

3 - CB, Flynn Parker - Fadron Flight 31 Caps, 1 Goals, 29 Years Old
Flynn Parker proved rather good in the qualifying campaign and this tournament will be a chance for him and center back mate Jhett Jackal to continue to gel and hopefully push the Purple Knights chances of qualifying for the next world cup.

4 - CB, Jhett Jackal - Real Atlantea 24 Caps, 1 Caps, 29 Years Old
Jhett Jackal rather surprisingly became a starter last qualifiers and now looks to build that center back ability along side his teammate Flynn Parker. That said Jackal is more of a full back and his abilities defending the cross are rather suspect.

5 - RB, Alain Von Bois - Yaton FC 8 Caps, 1 Goal, 27 Years Old
Von Bois will once again be in the back for at the Right Back position. However this is a bit of a misnomer as he is a wingback and not a fullback. He will hardly add much to the team in the defense and many see this as the reasoning behind Latrine being named the starting left back.

17 - Tevia Iacoco - Yaton FC 0 Caps, 26 Years Old
On the bench will be two newcomers in Iacoco and Fontaine. Iacoco is the big hulking center back who seems to just be at the wrong age. He will likely only get a few run outs and only in high defensive games.

19 - Pantilimon Fontaine - Bayern Phoenix 0 Caps, 28 years Old
Fontaine is also sadly getting up there in age as his first tournament comes up.

21 - Gabriel Gorzon - Tintown Terrapins 16 Cap, 29 Years Old
Gorzon seems to be the most likely starter going into the qualifiers, even with Von Bois starting for the B team. He adds more defensively to the squad, whilst also adding a bit of an attack. Look for him to see a lot of minutes late in games.

MIDFIELDERS

6 - CM, Karl Llana - Bayern-Algaer 46 Caps, 30 Years OldVice-Captain
Only a few months ago Llana announced his international retirement, but rather quickly he has come out of it for one last hurrah at the Copa Rushmori. The coach needed a center midfielder and hes got one.

7 - RM, Grant Fauejeau - Fadron Flight 62 Caps, 28 Years OldCAPTAIN
With Tyler Pantoum staying away from this Copa Rushmori Fauejeau is not only the captain of the team, but the highest capped member of the team. He will be their leader, and hopefully he leads very well.

8 - CM, Lysander Ying Uing - Bayern Phoenix 31 Caps, 2 Goals, 24 Years Old
While he is most certainly not the goal scoring threat his father was, Lysander Ying Uing has proven an asset to the Purple Knights in recent years and now gets his first chance to start for the national team. Hopefully he does well.

9 - LM, Alex Guggenheim -Red Star Severny (Polar Islandstates) 1 Caps, 1 Goal, 25 Years Old
Guggenheim rather shockingly made it straight out of nowhere and onto the A national team in the last qualifiers. Now he's pulling his weight as a starter for the B team and in the country he plies his club football for. Hopefully that is an advantage for the team.

10 CAM, Brett Toulanlan - Canalave Dragons (Valladares) 6 Caps, 3 Goals, 25 Years Old
At the tip of the Taeshani midfield will be speedy Brett Toulanlan who will look to open up defenses and spring the forwards in attack.

15 - Billy York - 1093 Club de Atlantea 24 Years Old
A new player for the future in Billy York, a former U21 star.

16 - A.J. Bouveiau - Fadron Flight 17 Caps, 2 Goals, 29 Years Old
Bouveiau is now the spark of the bench with a lot of talent.

18 - Isaac Benoit - Real Atlantea 23 Years Old
Benoit is a bright young player for Taeshani champions Real Atlantea.

20 - Parry Perry - Moresville FC 1 Cap, 28 Years Old

22 - Addison Lambrogini - Real Atlantea, 2 Caps, 27 Years Old
Lambrogini represents speed on the bench.

STRIKERS

11 - RS, Xander McDrew - Bayern Phoenix 13 Caps, 2 Goals, 23 Years Old
The world seems to be Xander McDrew's oyster. After one year on the bench he has been handed the keys to the B team's offense and the recently homeward bound McDrew seems likely to relish the chance.

13 - Javier Yon - Ojian Orangemen, 23 Years Old
Once a teammate of McDrew Yon joins him again on the national team.

14 - Peter Wiggin - Blacklake Blues 0 Caps, 20 Years Old
The younger brother of Ender Wiggin. Need i say more.

Formation 4-3-1-2
--Garden--
--Von Bois--Jackal--Parker--Latrine--
--Fauejeau--Llana--Ying Uing--Guggenheim--
--Toulanlan--

“I don’t know if I’m ready for this pressure again,” said Sanders aloud.

Sanders stood beside Golovkin and Wakahisa as the three of them watched the Zenic squad practice. They had arrived in Alianza Albos the day before and were getting settled in for the group stage. It had been a while since the team had been together as each had gone their own way: Sanders went back home to Deline for rest, Golovkin returned to Coohen City to be with his family, Dr. Wakahisa had a brief return to her old medical stomping grounds and the players went back to their clubs to play the second season of the PLE. The team had only reassembled about a week before the Copa Rushmori at around the same time the U-21 team had first trained together.

“You should be fine, Michael: as long as you take your medication, lower your alcohol intake and remember what your psychiatrist taught you,” Dr. Wakahisa reminded Sanders in the blunt, no-nonsense way she always spoke. “Oh, thanks. That sure does make me better. Next, you’ll tell me my colon is about to exploding and to not worry,” Sanders retorted sarcastically. He sighed, rubbing his temples to calm himself before speaking again. “Sorry about that. The attacks come and go. Let’s just talk about the group stage now, shall we?” Dr. Wakahisa nodded, being understandable about his condition while Golovkin smacked the manager on his back in joy. “Now we are talking!"

Sanders put up an awkward thumbs up before turning his attention back to the training on the field. “So, we face Ancharmunn first. Good team with decent success in previous Copas. Concerning the WCC-sanctioned events and rankings though, they are not as talented since they are currently 224th in the universe,” Golovkin informed Sanders of their first opponent in their debut Copa Rushmori.

Sanders nodded, soaking in all the information as he watched his players head to the locker rooms. His team had a chance: and honestly, that’s all that mattered.

"Let's see if we can survive another tournament."

The two people who constituted the Isulan delegation straggled in, shuffling haphazardly to the back of the room where the draw for the Eighteenth Copa Rushmori was being held. Siolæsĉigu Marcu Foda Maria, dressed in his required long black scholar's robes, threw back his hood as he scanned the room for a place to sit. He did this without moving his eyes, causing some of the dignitaries already seated to shift from side to side a bit, oddly discomforted. Samuél Saidolaru Aĝuu followed close behind, his cumbersome form covered in an expensive suit, albeit one that did not fit his wide girth in the slightest. He did his best to enter discreetly, and scored a minor victory in upsetting only two chairs.
The Siolæsĉigu's unsettling scan had proved unsuccessful, so the two settled in to watch the draw. Having arrived late, at the front the first names were already being called. Of course, there was nobody present known to the Isulans. The Isulans were newcomers, this tournament was the first foray for the nation into the world of football. Though the Cosilhu Fotbol Naĝuu ĝ'A Isula ĝe Ru had established the Silver League, which was to begin its third season soon after the tournament's end, and had managed to compile a roster, there was little instruction on the national level for Marcu besides "win". Of course none of these, the faces of importance in Rushmore, would be known to any Isulan. These were to be the faces seen on sidelines and luxury boxes throughout the tournament. There was no need to know them.
The draw began with the drawing of hosts Alianza Albos into Group A. Predictable. Marcu spoke no English except for "hello", "goodbye", and "I speak no English, but Isulan and Spanish are fine". He could replicate those three phrases in about ten languages, and it was a skill he was most proud of. Despite the abject lack of Isulan at the draw (and the all-too-apparent presence of major Rushmori languages), it was fairly easy to follow along. He watched as, from pot 2, eighth-ranked Darmen was also drawn into Group A. There was a bit more talking, and then sixth-ranked Taeshan was drawn into Group A. It would be an unlucky team indeed that was drawn from the final pot into Group A. The 6th-ranked team, the 8th-ranked team, the hosts, and..?

"Isula ĝe Ru"

Marcu uttered an unsavory word in Isulan under his breath, one that was luckily mistaken for a very odd sneeze by most members of the crowd, and understood by none. Of course, it was not the high ranking of their soon-to-be opponents that angered him so much as the dreadful pronunciation of his nation's name. He elbowed Samuél, a little too sharply, causing him to utter the same word, only much louder. When the eyes of most of the room had once again turned back to the draw, where Mytannion was busily being placed in Group B, Marcu nodded his head toward the door. He had a flight to catch, a team to train, and some painfully-high-ranked opponents to plan a futile attempt against. No time to watch seven more groups. They left together, much the same bumbling way they had entered, to a host of angry stares and the sound of "Saintland-Group B".

Dabiit Ducau Ĉiaba had, arguably, the most experience of any on the team with Alianza Albos. He had, as a matter of fact, played in the stadium which would host all three of their group matches. In the Cygnus Cup, his Olympi squad had beaten La Popular en El Flor Blanca there, and advanced to the first round. It was a massive stadium, and one that would be alight in perhaps more ways than one for the first tie, against none other than the hosts themselves. That meant it was quite likely that all 132,500 seats would be full and bursting at the seams. Frickin' fantastic. The first international game ever played by an Isulan team, and it would be in front of one hundred thousand people who wouldn't care one way or the other if they all dropped dead on the field of cardiac arrest. He gritted his teeth. Now, of course, the plane was waiting on the manager and coach, who were on their way from the draw. They had about eighteen hours to before the match, and he knew it would all be taken up by currency conversion and hotel accomadations. He hoped dearly that the Siolæsĉigu didn't pull the nonsense he'd done during the Globe Cup. He'd tried to exchange pure silver for foreign money, something nonsensical to anyone but an Isulan. He wouldn't change it for the world, but sometimes the silver standard was a bitch.
Here came the Siolæsĉigu and coach. Takeoff in 15 minutes. Game in 18 hours. Life was about to be lived pretty damn hard.

Manager: Morten Rasmussen, 63
Record in Charge: P 150, W 119, D 18, L 13, GF 314, GA 106, GD +208, WP 79%
After guiding the Terns to three finals in a row, including finally lifting the World Cup trophy, Rasmussen's streak was broken in the Free Republics and the Terns came third. Whilst not the position the team would have been aiming for, this is still a great achievement of course, and generally speaking the Terns have never been higher. Former FC Axel Heiburg boss Morten Rasmussen took over at the helm of the Terns five cycles ago now, and he has been a revelation, turning the side into one of the hardest teams in the Multiverse to beat - I mean, two of his thirteen defeats in charge of the Terns have been in the World Cup final for Thor's sake! Twice they've come close, and twice he's picked them back up again. The third team they succeeded, but with that semi-final disappointment still fresh in the memory, Rasmussen is taking the opportunity granted to him by injuries to a few key personnel to give he squad a little shake-around here. And why not? With a new assistant manager to work with, he might as well.

Assistant Manager: Iulian Finnibaturinn, 40
With hard-nosed Steffan Pekarik off to find an international managerial job of his own, Rasmussen has turned to Surtsey Island Gulls coach Finnibaturinn to fill the seat to the right of him in the dugout. Finnibaturinn played for the Terns a huge ninety-seven times - four times as captain, scoring four goals in the process. He might have retired just before Rasmussen took charge of the Terns, but that doesn't mean he was ever unknown to his new boss, with Rasmussen trying to sign him several times whilst FC Axel heiburg manager. Pekarik was a born winner, and a tough fighter, and it is thought that Rasmussen has brought in Finnibaturinn because he shares those exact attributes. Once thought of as down and out, he fought his way back into the Terns squad after having found himself at imploded league after imploded league, with a move back to Surtsey and a Champions' Cup medal at Urbizania Wanderers to show for his efforts. Never gave up as a player, and doesn't do so as a coach either. An inspired appointment from Rasmussen.

PLAYERS:
#1 - GK - Iulian Kirilaunen - Age 29 - Image FC1. Surtsey Island Gulls Image - 86 Caps, 1 Goal
Kirilaunen was handed the number one jersey at Surtsey a long time ago now, repaying the confidence shown in him almost immediately by producing some outstanding performances to help the Gulls exceed all expectations. Being twenty-nine years old means he is a goalkeeper at the peak of his abilities, and he represents his national team as the number one with all of the calmness and authority required. During the match he catches the eye with his consistently good positioning and the organisation of his back four, and despite his closest rival for the number one jersey winning the Champions' Cup, twice, Iulian still holds onto it thanks to his lack of reliance on the defence in front of him. There's a good reason for this, and his speed off his line when acting as a sweeper-keeper will no doubt save the day on the occasions that see his team-mates getting caught flat-footed. Against Saintland in WC68 he even became the first ever goalkeeper to score for the Terns.

#2 - DR - Vauxhall Jansen - Age 24 - Image Makosile United (VIL) Image - 5 Caps, 1 Assist
With a smattering of Wightling heritage, Bjarnese-born Jansen is one of the more jetsetting members of the squad, having travelled to the Vilitan league to play for first Inland Peaks, and now Makosile United. With a huge amount of raw talent, Vauxhall Jansen is just that - raw. Is capable of playing on either flank if asked to do so, and his vision for a pass and game-reading going forwards is excellent. His tackling can still leave something to be desired however, and Rasmussen will be hoping the high stakes of replacing the still-injured Moses Luc Bjerregaard a knockout tournament will hone his concentration and turn him into a player who can fulfil the potential he so clearly has. If things go well, this will be hailed as a master-stroke by Rasmussen. If not, he'll go back to being thought of as a wild card with a silly name. Which, let's be honest, he does have. Bloody Wightlings.

#3 - DC - Aapo Nordenberg - Age 28 - Image Ituraitz FC (ASG) Image - 61 Caps, 2 Assists, 3 Goals - Vice-Captain
Oyen-Spekke's retirement left a gap at centre-back that Rasmussen could have filled with any one of the many talented centre-backs that the nation is awash with at the moment. In the end, he opted for the player who was brought from FC Torshavn to East Franz Athletic to replace Oyen-Spekke there as well. Nordenberg has previously found it easy to slip under the radar and avoid the hype, though at East Franz his quietly impressive performances changed that, and with the club's failure to qualify for UICA tournaments three cycles ago he was sold to Ituraitz FC in order to balance the books; where he has excelled. Quiet, considered, and a scholar of the game, his game reading is excellent, meaning he is often able to make a challenge and prevent a dangerous situation before it even materialises. This lack of eye-catching last minute tackles contributes towards his relatively low-key profile, though they are of course also indicative of his ability to stop them being necessary in the first place. Tall, strong, and with a fine touch, Nordenberg is one of the ball-playing central defenders that are now becoming the vogue around the leagues. An instrumental part of the World Cup winning squad.

#4 - DC - Torsten Navarro - Age 24 - Image FC1. Surtsey Island Gulls Image - 20 Caps, 3 Goals
After graduating through the Haapa-Mechelin Youth Academy, East Kulmsaari national Torsten Navarro instead elected to leave the club and was snapped up by Novaya Sibir Reds. Enjoying the increased game time he got by making such a move, he blossomed into the tough tackling defender we know today, and his stock only increased when the Reds were relegated and he was pursued by Surtsey. An integral part of their Divisjon One and Copa de Campeones winning side, he is now looked on enviously by Axel Heiburg fans, and as he makes his Terns appearances through the Polarian passport of his grandparents, he will have his determined eyes on retaining the spot for the World Cup even when the injured Salo comes back into contention. Capable of scoring freely in the opposition box from set pieces if allowed.

#5 - DL - Kohev Küngas-Vaga - Age 32 - Image Northbrook Diamonds FK Image - 183 Caps, 31 Assists, 18 Goals - CAPTAIN
This defender is well known and trusted by just about the entire nation, and after having taken the armband after the retirement of Alexsandr van Sorensen, Kohev will forever go down in history as the Terns' first World Cup winning skipper. As captain for club and country, he is a combative and battling left-back, though he is a talented centre back and defensive midfielder as well, and this enthusiasm and adaptability is something that Rasmussen will be able to make good use of. Originally moving to the first team as a result of Edvar Folke's previous hamstring tear, his athleticism was called upon to offer support and attacks from down the left side, and he later ousted the SK defender from the starting XI entirely. One of the youngest players to ever move past a hundred caps for his country, he found the final defeats particularly hard to take, and took great personal triumph in lifting the trophy - the second time he had done such a thing after previously captaining the Terns to their third Copa Rushmori victory. This is a feat he will be looking to repeat here.

#6- DMC - Anders Holzhauser - Age 24 - Image Northbrook Diamonds FK Image - 34 Caps, 4 Assists, 2 Goals
Came straight from the DBC to feature at his first Copa Rushmori four Copas ago, and did so again along with Bjerregaard three cycles ago in Charruterra, providing performances enough to convince Rasmussen to take him along in his squads ever since. Holzhauser is a strong and tough-tackling defensive midfielder that has made quite an impact on Rasmussen, who has been to Apox several times to watch him play in the league. With a commanding presence, he quickly grabs the eye as he marshals the defence behind him, and though he is able to fill in at centre back should he be required to, Holzhauser has the urge and the ability to push forwards in possession of the ball and add a different dimension to the attack in the process. All this international exposure was bound to create a big move for him eventually however, and he now turns out for Divisjon One giants Northbrook Diamonds FK, who splashed the cash necessary to get Issington to part with one of their prized assets. Fans already think him cheap at twice the price, and with Lillehammer another player carrying a slight knock, he gets the chance in the first team.

#7 - MC - Bjorn Konigstein - Age 24 - Image SK Franz Josef City Image - 30 Caps, 7 Assists, 5 Goals
With all the money at SK's disposal and all the attraction of playing for the biggest club in the Federation, they can pretty much bring in whoever they want. How remarkable, therefore, that the diminutive Bjorn Konigstein has fought his way through the youth academy and has been commanding a place in the starting line-up for years now. Full of youthful enthusiasm and energy, he's got a sort of magnetic presence on the pitch that just seems to draw the ball towards him, and he is adept at launching forwards and finishing attacks with a sweet strike from the edge of the area in his role as a classic box-to-box midfielder. Rasmussen was impressed with his performances during the last Copa and subsequent friendlies, and as such he was given a run in the first team during qualifiers, ousting Einarsson keeping him out. A real talent.

#8 - MC - Svenbjorn Einarsson - Age 28 - Image Mâ Âlâmëómë (FFD) Image - 55 Caps, 8 Assists, 6 Goals
Red Star are making a habit of producing impressive midfielders recently, and their management will be frustrated that Einarsson is another one that they've allowed to slip away through their fingers - in Svenbjorn's case, to Farfadillis, where his experience has seen him drop the "defensive" prefix from his job title and start adding goals and assists (not to mention player awards and general Farf craziness) to his game. Strong and acutely accurate with his passing, Einarsson always gives his all on the pitch, where his youthful energy and willingness to chase any seemingly lost cause can change games late on. Though, questions remain over his ability to stay calm when provoked, something working with Pekarik hasn't exactly helped. It is hoped therefore that Finnibaturinn will mellow him out a little, and Kirvesniemi's disappointing form for Fontvielle Impact sees Einarsson handed the chance to show his progress.

#9 - ST - Gustaf Kolehmainen - Age 30 - Image SK Franz Josef City Image - 97 Caps, 11 Assists, 62 Goals
With a vicious right boot and a desire to succeed, Gustaf Kolehmainen is perhaps the player upon whom Surtsey have built their recent success, and the player that proves the difference for the Terns time and time again. How devastating for the Gulls therefore that a series of personal tragedies left him feeling like he could no longer stay in the city, leading him to make a move for SK Franz Josef City of all teams. Has scored sixty-two goals for the Terns in just ninety-seven matches so far, guaranteeing him a place at the table of all-time greats. This is only fitting for a player capable of utilising his broad range of talents to fit into whatever formation he is required to do so. He can lead the line, he can support it, he can poach, he can hit screamers, he's strong, he's fast, he's two footed, he's strong in the air; he's the perfect all round striker, and Surtsey's loss is SK's gain. Lost form dramatically at the start of the last qualifying campaign due to some tragic off-field circumstances, but managed to use those feelings to fuel his performances on the pitch by the end of them, and the way in which he terrorised defenders at the World Cup served only to underline his position as one of the Multiverse's most feared strikers.

#10 - MC - Jean-Eric Villeneuve - Age 31 - Image Northbrook Diamonds FK Image - 139 Caps, 74 Assists, 20 Goals
Moving back to Northbrook from Cap Nordique in Cotdelapoms, Villeneuve is a creative attacking midfielder in the same mould as Lepka and Demarchelier and, like the latter, he hails from the Rochefroides community of Ellismare. Fluent in five languages, he is incredibly intelligent as far as footballers go, and his range of passing and vision on the pitch is evidence of this. Not the fastest player to have ever hit the turf, he lets the football do all the hard work for him, which can lead to his apparent lack of effort being an easy target for disgruntled fans is results aren't going so well. Fortunately, with Jean-Eric in the side, this is rarely the case, and with the help of Rasmussen's encouragement and Finnibaturinn's drills, even his pace and athleticism is staying constant, with the astonishing number of assists he got at the World Cup proving to be the fruits of his labours. He's at the height of his game right now, and has been moved forwards into the number ten role as a result, partially in a bid to cover his relative lack of pace in getting back to defend - a task that would be rather more urgently asked of him were he still playing in the midfield - and partially to shoulder the burden of replacing van Sorensen's spark that Zeljeznicar was apparently unable to bear with reliable results.

#11 - ST - Torsten Wolff - Age 27 - Image FC1. Surtsey Island Gulls Image - 51 Caps, 5 Assists, 21 Goals
Having made a good impression with the u-21s, Wolff has had to wait patiently for his chance in the first team thanks to the strength of the Kolehmainen-Saarinen partnership, but since getting that chance he has appeared in nearly every game since. With other young strikers also in the frame to take the spot in the first team for the next World Cup cycle, you can be sure Wolff will be aiming to continue to improve his goals/game ratio here in Alianza Albos. With an easy-going nature, his partnership with Frederiksen at the DBC had a distinct air of the odd-couple about it, but it nonetheless worked quite well, and his keen eye for the top corner of the goal from wherever he is in the box has made his excellent poaching skills a fan favourite. Having pipped Frederiksen in squad decisions time after time, he'll be looking to cause some damage here in order to prove his selection justified. Turmoil in Iturributa means he's returning to Divisjon One with Surtsey, and yes; he's heard all the wolf jokes already.

#12 - GK - Leif Ulsletten - Age 25 - Image Red Star Severny Image - 7 Caps, 1 Assist
With Alexis Sand carrying a minor niggle into the last Copa, Rasmussen turned to Red Star goalkeeper Ulsletten for the number thirteen shirt at the tournament, giving him a run of three games in the friendlies that followed the tournament. Having only just made his breakthrough for his club, the call-up looked to have surprised Ulsletten somewhat, but you would have never been able to tell that from his performances in those games - keeping three clean sheets and making a string of saves behind an inexperienced defence, convincing Rasmussen to keep him in the team for the World Cup in the process, and he now takes the number twelve shirt in Korzhanenko's injury-enforced absence. He's still learning, too, which can only be a good thing. Fast, nimble, and with excellent distribution - Kirilaunen's one big weakness - his long throws can often be the first line of attack for his sides, as proved by his assist.

#13 - GK - Alexis Sand - Age 30 - Image Iturributa United (ASG) Image - 12 Caps
Just as he was making his breakthrough at Red Star, Alexis Sand was whisked away by former Severny hero and now Iturributa United manager Petter Bielsen to make his name on the Goose Coast. With a decent stretch and a firm punch, he'll do well when defending set pieces in the box, and his reflexes are second to none. There have been some concerns raised over his tendency to stay on his line when a sweeper-keeper approach might be more appropriate, but he is an experience goalkeeper, and his loyalty in the face of turbulent political goings on is hugely appreciated by the Iturributan giants.

#14 - AMC - Alexis Zeljeznicar - Age 28 - Image Ituraitz FC (ASG) Image - 66 Caps, 21 Assists, 14 Goals
After starting out for South Factory courtesy of their Polarian connections, Zeljeznicar was snapped up by the famous Ituraitz FC when South Factory were relegated. He is a former striker that has since retreated to a more supporting role, reminiscent of another certain Tern that you may have heard of. Pacy, aggressive, a handful in the box for both sets of players, and wickedly talented, if he could only stop basing his lifestyle of Timo Skye's he could still be very good indeed. Despite having visibly calmed down recently, he appeared to struggle with the huge task of replacing van Sorensen in the number ten position, and Rasmussen made the decision to drop him to the bench again. His confidence appears to be on the increase again as a result, and despite taking a lead role for his club it would see that the super-sub role suits his demeanour better for his country.

#15 - DL - Fabian Vaaraniemi - Age 29 - Image Raynor City United (VAL) Image - 65 Caps, 8 Assists, 2 Goals
A hugely impressive series of performances in Divisjon One has seen this fleet of foot left back from the Flotilla make the spot on the bench for the Terns his own. Lightning fast and with a hefty amount of momentum given the chance to run, he will be hard to stop late on in games should he come on. Finally got his first goal with one of his trademark stinging free kicks, and when faced with an intensely defensive opponent, I wouldn't be surprised to see Rasmussen move Kungas-Vaga to defensive midfield and have Vaaraniemi on the pitch just to utilise his dead ball skills when near the opposition box. Intensely loyal to the Flotilla for many years, he finally has the chance to prove his credentials after being made an offer by Raynor City United that he couldn't refuse. He is a noble player with a strong sense of fair play and absolutely deserves his affectionate nickname of 'Sir Fabian'.

#16 - DR - Anders Weiss - Age 26 - Image Royal Rumiatzi (ASG) Image - Uncapped
When SK Franz Josef City rocked Rushmore with their big money swoop for Terns right-back Moses Luc Bjerregaard, a condition of the sale was that their own first choice right-back and Terns hopeful - Anders Weiss - be permitted to move in the opposite direction. This he did, and with Bjerregaard out injured and St Olaf dropped after being blamed for the Terns' semi-final defeat to Free Republics, the fourth-choice right-back in the Federation finally gets his chance. Fast, hardworking, and very much a no-frills kind of player, Weiss is a good old-fashioned player that believes in tough tackling, straight passing, and solid attacking. A terrier, and short for a Valhallan at only 5'9" tall.

#17 - DMC - Karsten Mannerheim - Age 27 - Image East Franz Athletic Image - Uncapped
Injuries to senior players often cause more eyebrow-raising selections on the bench than in the starting line-up, and Mannerheim is just one such selection from Rasmussen. Undeniably talented and stupidly tall, Mannerheim has been working hard for East Franz all through their recent slump, and he has rightfully been collecting the plaudits for his role in helping them to fourth last season. LIllehammer's injury means the spot on the bench becomes open, and whilst I'm sure there are youngsters in the DBC squad that Rasmussen will be more interested in long-term, Mannerheim nonetheless gets a well deserved call-up and chance to represent his country in the meantime.

#18 - ST - Victor Larsen - Age 25 - Image Spartangrad (EUR) Image - 19 Caps, 3 Assists, 8 Goals
Huge, hulking, physically intimidating, and with a foot like a traction engine, Victor Larsen is notable for being - along with Nilsson - the first black Polarian to ever be called up to the national team. Impressive with the Chicks at u-21s level, his pace and raw power can change the game in an instant, and he has been doing just that with Red Star in Divisjon One, having an outstanding season last time around with Spartangrad in Eura taking interest in him as a result. Described as a human battering ram, he provides something very different from the bench, and it will be interesting to see how Rasmussen uses him with the other strikers in the squad when it comes to deployment on the pitch. Had something of a breakthrough in Kolehmainen's poor form early on in the World Cup qualifiers.

#19 - MC - Erik Bergen - Age 24 - Image Astograth University (ASG) Image - 12 Caps, 4 Assists, 2 Goals
It's not often that a midfielder is called into a World Cup squad uncapped when midfielders had been specifically looked at for the open spot during the Copa, but that's exactly what happened to Erik Bergen. FC Axel Heiburg are used to having more players in the Terns roster than they have here - none - but the numbers of former-Argonauts have been bolstered once again by the addition of Erik Bergen (calling into question the transfer strategy at Axel Torvig Park since Rasmussen left in the process). Bergen's move to Astograth University raised few eyebrows at the time, but the performances of the youngster during "that" season have certainly raised eyebrows since, as he helped his club to an historic league and cup double. Such a performance could not remain overlooked by Rasmussen and his scouts, and the gangly midfielder with an eye for a pass and a bucketload of hard work and determination was brought into the squad as a result. Is he still riding that wave of confidence? Let's find out.

#20 - ST - Vasek Frederiksen - Age 27 - Image Red Star Severny Image - 18 Caps, 1 Assist, 5 Goals
Once one of several uncapped players in the last Copa Rushmori squad, Vasek Frederiksen did enough on the way to the final of that tournament to convince Rasmussen that he deserved the spot in the World Cup squad, but has since lost out to Wolff in the pecking order since swapping Torshavn for Esca. Falling behing Illich-Svitych as well when a move to Ituraitz rejuvenated the veteran, Frederiksen is taking a leaf out of his book by swapping Esca for Red Star, filling the boots of Terns team-mate Larsen in the process. Tall and lanky, he's surprisingly good with his touch for a big man, and his gangly presence often belies his deadliness in the box. Has a focused and naturally solitary demeanour that can come across as anti-social and aggressive, but on the pitch this frequently counts as a good thing, and you can bet he is focused solely on scoring for the Terns after some time away from the squad.

#21 - MC - Jens Niemanen - Age 23 - Image FC1. Surtsey Island Gulls Image - Uncapped
Quietly going about his work in Divisjon One, Niemanen has been impressive enough to oust several more senior players from the pecking order at Surtsey on their way to becoming table-toppers. In fact, like Bergen and Konigstein before him, Niemanen represents something of a success for the "young skilful box-to-box midfielder" trope that the Federation seems to be churning out at the moment. A battler, a winner, and a natural reader of the game, it's hard to believe sometimes that a head so calm sits on a body so young, but that's what Niemanen is. Has developed his tackling and tracking considerably in recent years, and it is thought he will work closely with Einarsson and Finnibaturinn in training during the tournament. One to watch.

#22 - DC - Yann-Erik Nilsson - Age 24 - Image SK Franz Josef City Image - 19 Caps, 2 Assists, 1 Goal
Second of the two young two-time Champions' Cup winners to have graduated from the SK youth academy, Nilsson brings a certain attacking joie de vivre into the back four, with him seemingly unable to lose the attacking influence on his game he gets from being half Acquan himself. Strong and difficult to dispossess, he will often try and play his way out of danger - and usually succeeds at that. Needs to mature slightly and realise that the time isn't always right for bombing forwards and leaving a gap behind you, but it's always worked for him at SK, and he'll be an interesting player to give a game to as he continues to make a name for himself with the Terns.

#23 - DC - Willem Otkupshchikov - Age 25 - Image FC1. Bjarnarey Flotilla Image - Uncapped
Otkupshchikov represents one of those rare success stories where a player can grow and mature way down the leagues with a lesser team before a bigger team notices him and takes a chance on him, only to see said player blossom on the bigger stage and totally steal the limelight. Otkupshchikov did just that at Bjarnarey after having spent the first four years of his career Divisjon-jumping with Waldenoya Bears, and he now finds himself outshining the likes of Syndicate star Alex Sutler for club, and getting a call up for his country. Tall, solid, and with an incredible work ethic, you won't see Otkupshchikov popping up in the opposition box much, if at all, but you will always be able to rely on him to be in the right place at the right time in his own box.

TACTICS: "The Pythagorean" 2-3-3-2
The Polarian game is methodical, abrasive, technical, and physical. They won't give you a second on the ball to think, and they won't hold back in the tackle. In the centre of the park they will play a possession based midfield game of triangles, though a defence splitting pass could come at any moment towards the fast and direct attack. Rasmussen plays a narrow and heavily modified diamond formation dubbed the Pythagorean by the sporting press. It is reliant upon two key triangular sets of players that transcend the normal "rows" of player in conventional formation layouts. Nordenberg, Navarro, and Holzhauser will act as the defensive triangle, and Villeneuve, Kolehmainen, and Wolff will counter at the other end as the offensive triangle. Holzhauser's and Villeneuve's roles in this scheme are absolutely crucial, as their job is to support and unlock the other two players in their respective triangles, providing outlets and creativity in abundance. Einarsson and Konigstein are part of a compact and creative midfield that will supply steel or style whenever the situation demands it, as well as partnering up with their respective full backs to form a kind of "bumper" that sweeps the flanks in attack or folds in to protect the penalty area in defence. Fitness of all players will therefore be key to the success of this plan; not just the constant positional changing demanded of Holzhauser and Villeneuve, but the athleticism of Jansen and Küngas-Vaga in particular will also be tested to the limit as their roles require frequent attacking. It's not quite a 4-3-3, it's not quite a 4-1-2-1-2, and it's not quite a W-M... Alright, alright, it's more or less a W-M with a focus on two specific trios of players. It's the Pythagorean.

The Most Serene Republic of
EASTERN SUNRISE ISLANDS

Log 1 - We have finally departed the Mokotoverse. It was a rough way from there, but we managed to tie the three lands and depart. This world is weird, but I believe that if we pretend to have been here all the time, odds are they will buy it. This new realm seems weird and unexplainable, but we are starting to get the hang of it. Only downside is that we cannot understand why this realm has so many incomprehensible things. Countries and regions we never have ever heard of, the concept of raiders... I'm still uncertain whether the change of places was or wasn't a good thing. But still. All we need to do now is to find where the other Sunrise Islands went and the chosen lands to helps us save ourselves from evil. We shouldn't fear much, though. It'll probably take just two or three days anyways.
