Kannap March Invitational [Completed]

Welcome to Kannap
We welcome you warmly to the nation of Kannap. We welcome you, athletes, coaches, and spectators, for the Kannap March Invitational, which is part of the Britannual Tennis Championships and will be a part of the Association of Tennis Professionals rankings. We are proud to welcome the great many athletes that will be attending, even some of the top tennis athletes in the world!

We have 128 athletes, male and female, here to compete in the singles tournament. That being stated, an approach will be made to this tournament that is not similar to former Kannapian international tennis opens. We will be making an approach similar to the Lzher-Jeckland Invitational last month that will include the system of two group stages that was instituted for that tournament. Why has the tournament decided to use this system? It is fair when so many athletes from around the world are here and it gives a more greater chance for athletes not the best in the world to make it further into the tournament than they would with a single-elimination knockout system.

The draw for the qualifying round will be posted on Thursday, March 13th (tomorrow). All 128 athletes will play in the qualifying round, this also answers the question to confirm that males and females will compete in the same tournament, as is the standard for tennis tournaments in Kannap.

The Kannapian National Tennis Association has decided to keep the location from Kannap’s host bid as the location of this tournament. The tournament will be held in Amsterdam, Kannap, and this will be the location of all singles and doubles matches.

The 64 winners of the qualifying round will be sorted into sixteen groups of four, and each player will play three matches in this group stage. This will allow for each athlete in the group to play against all other athletes in the group. The first and second place finishers of each group will advance on to a second group stage. In this second group stage, the athletes will be drawn into eight groups of four and play another three matches. Again the three matches will allow for each athlete in the group to play against all the other athletes in their group. Just like the first group stage, the first and second place finishers of each group will advance onward.

Following the two group stages, there will be a round of 16, which will continue forwards will the standard straight knockout format familiar to Kannapian sports fans.

The final of the tournament is scheduled to be played on Court #2 at the Clengin Tennis Complex in Amsterdam, Kannap. The complex will be host to all the matches played in the singles and doubles tournaments. Courts 1-18 will be used for the singles tournament and courts 1-6 will be used for the doubles tournament.

Al Montis de Surmar ready for competition?
Janna Valdis - KANNAP

Al Montis de Surmar is ranked #1 in the ATP World Tennis Rankings despite taking a competition completely off to rehab some nagging injuries that he sustained during his hectic schedule between tournaments. To consider that he is still ranked as high as he is truly proves how much the youngster has to offer to the sport of Tennis.

"Al has been a shining example as to how good Anditon competitors can be at the national level" Anditon Tennis Federation president Jules Varra stated during a recent interview. "At the budding age of 19, Al has done better than many other Anditon athletes before him and most likely will continue to outperform many others to come for quite some time."
Our predictions:
Montis de Surmar - Quarterfinals-Finals
Grappo - Semifinals
Fangol - Semifinals-Quarterfinals
D'Aub - Round of 32
Varscara - Round of 32-Semifinals
Lar - Early elimination

Al has fared well on Kannapian soil previously taking the international tennis community by surprise as he battled his way to the championship of the 2nd Kinteran (KITO) during his International competition debut. Since that time, he has gone on to maintain his #1 worldwide ranking winning the Antillia Masters Open and nearly winning the Lzher-Jeckland Invitational as well, despite playing through nagging injuries. In an unexpected turn of events, Montis de Surmar decided to skip the BCA Challenge and recouperate from his minor nicks and bruises to regain his strength for more competitions to come down the road. Due to limited signups this allowed his fellow countrymen Tim D'Aub and Ellie Fangol to participate in his stead.

D'Aub was quickly eliminated by co-#1 ranked Ardil Navsal but Fangol was able to continue a bit farther improving her ranking on the ATP to 22nd overall (5th among women). Fangol is eager to compete in the Kannap March Invite to prove that she can "hang with the big dogs" of the ATP. She and D'Aub will be paired up for mixed doubles competition.

Micha Lar, Oscar Varscara and Gulaga Grappo round out the other competitors for the KMI. As one of the highest ranked women on the ATP rankings, Grappo should do well in the competition, however she also recently has turned 28, an age at which most competitors begin to lose a step or two, especially if matches continue on into tie-breaking rounds. Expect her to fare well in the opening stages, but as the tournament continues, she may falter some. Lar has been inconsistent at best and will be lucky to come out of the opening rounds of qualifiers. Varscara still has lessons of humility to learn but will most likely not be humiliated until later rounds as he will most likely underestimate his competition and falter while trying to "comeback" from "bad calls."

Good luck to all Anditon Tennis Players!

Britannual News

The 8 get ready to fight!

Place: Amsterdam, Kannap.

After the January Open, we thought we had a long break. When the players just chill out and we relax. Well they were wrong as we are in the March Open. Now it is called Kannap March Invitational. The 8 players (4 women, 4 men) will battle it out to get to the finals and then in The Doubles they verse people again. This will be about a 2 week/ 3 week process. Then after this it will be the Small May Open and then, what we all have been waiting for, The Britannual Britonisean Open in late July early August. Here we go and look below for our Britonish players.

Anancio Raimundo Belo vs. Leone Na

Leona is new to the grand slam business but I think she would get through. She has been practicing in Britonisea a lot so why can't she win at Kannap in the grand tennis park in Amsterdam? You tell me.

Grayson Carter vs. Elizabeth Quehall

Elizabeth is also quite new to the grounds of outside Britonisea. She is willing to take the oportunity to play against Grayson but she is going to loose very badly! She will lose in straight sets. 6-0. We better not speak as it may bring karma (I may or may not believe in that).

Vladimir Boyko vs. Lacy Turner

Lacey Turner, Ranked 58, has a lot ahead of her. Although she has one both Britannual Britonisean Tennis Open and The November Championship Finals, she does not seem like she can win anything anymore. Like she does not have a meaning. We need to make her happier and better.

Diego Martinez vs. Abi Forrest

Abi Forrest is the best girl in the pack but she verses a Man called Diego. She can win! She has good experience when it comes to winning a tournament. She needs to step up her game just like Lacey Turner should. She would be look at on The BVC channel.

Ricardo Toli vs. Amelia Moore

Ricardo Toli, is a man. He is the 2nd best man in Tennis in Britonisea to this date. He is a rival to many. Even his own. He has a big rivalry between Lance and Peter as they are more mature than him. Ricardo thinks otherwise and his plan is to get back at Peter. How? By winning this tournament. Ricardo has a good role in these tournaments.

Lance Mance vs. Lucy Horne

Lance Mance is the 3rd best man in Tennis in Britonisea to this date. He has a good history when it comes to winning tournaments like This tournament. I hope that he can win this tournament as he has been having his bad days. He will hopefully recover. There is nothing really to say about Lance.

Peter P Larry vs. Becky Short

Peter P Larry is the best man in Tennis in Britonisea and the 6th best in The NS World to this date! He has been taking part in most tournament in Tennis since the Britannual July Open. This guy has had his ups and his downs but he has a good chance with this one and maybe he could win this tournament. The Britonisean sources say that he would be the last Britonish standing while the others have cracked and been booted out. SO good luck to him.

Dunkun Newman vs. Lucia Moro

Dunkun Newman is this guy from Britonisea who is young and he wants to make his dreams. His dreams is to win a grand slam tournament. He cannot win this tournament unless he tries and the passed few tournaments he has not. We are watching him with beady eyes.

The Draw: Super-Llamaland!

Let's take a look at our athletes, coming off some exceptionally strong tournaments. Take the Lzher-Jeckland invitational: Mark Markos and Reagan Harris both in the Ro32 on their first try, Brendan Hernandez knocked out by his countryman in the Ro16, and Dustin Willinger getting his first spot on the podium with a third-place finish, falling only to Ardil Navsal in the semifinal. The BCA Challenge was next, and Willinger surprised again, leveraging a nice fifth-place ranking into a second-place finish, after losing to, you guessed it, Ardil Navsal in the finals. So Super-Llamaland's had a nice run. Let's take a look at their representatives in the Kannap March Invitational.

Reagan Harris has an interesting challenge with Micha Lar, who made it to the second round in the Lzher-Jeckland invitational but hasn't done anything else. Lar of Anditia isn't favored by the local media to go very far, and the twenty-fourth ranked Harris should be able to get out of the first round. Piper Antoine has her work cut out for her as the inexperienced twenty-two year old faces the daunting challenge of defeating world number-three Brett Roley of Estope. We can't predict her to get out of this alive, but Roley might have to work harder than he expected. Meanwhile, Dustin Willinger should see another cruise to the quarterfinals at least, with anything not involving the semifinals meaning "disappointment". Willinger needs to build on his recent success to catch up to Roley and Kelly of Estope and possibly even Ceni's Navsal and Anditia's de Surmar, the world's top-two. While it shouldn't be very hard, defeating Trina Gne, the unranked newcomer from Koznia, is a good place to start. Mark Markos surprised his way to the world twenty-eight spot, taking home a nice finish in the Lzher-Jeckland invite. Markos will play MuAlice Hale, another rookie from Koznia. Don't be surprised if we make the Koznians a very unhappy nation after this first round. Brendan Hernandez, who recovered readily from the Hallucinogen/Cliff Kay scandal, gets a breather against Owens of Nyucia and should advance. Finally, Rory Hasselhoff, the world's best player named Rory, gets Colomba Von Freytag. Should be interesting, if names can be a good judge of that.

The conclusion? If less than four Llamaneans make it to the next round, we'll be very, very disappointed.

GREAT EXPECTATIONS

Willinger: Finals
Hernandez: Ro16
Harris: Quarterfinals
Antoine: first round
Markos: Ro16
Hasselhoff: second round

Nadia Hapsari was easily lost in the first two sets from Javier Bochenek (6-2, 6-2). She tried her best to rise up in the third sets and forcing tie break. In 6-6 condition, Nadia remain calm and outplayed Bochenek in the second deuce she had. 7-6 for Nadia. A similar condition happens in the forth sets where Nadia again forced Bochenek to play into tie break. But this time was a little bit to much where both players interchangeably get deuce advantage. Nadia won the set again after 4 times deuce. The last sets was rather intense when both players win the game interchangeably. But Nadia stuck after win 3 games while Bochenek takes another 2. Nadia then steal the 9th game and make big effort in the 10th game although she remain lost. 6-4 for Bochenek and Nadia have to leave the competition.

Another hard match faced by Komang Ayu, when she has to face Bishop Lou Kelly which is one of the best player. She easily lost in the first set by only take 1 game from Lou Kelly. But in the second set it was Lou Kelly that get out off control and easily beaten up by Komang Ayu by 6-2. The third sets was rather similar where both player outplayed the other. Lou Kelly wins the set by 6-3. On the forth set, Komang Ayu eagerly try to win. She takes 3 first games but eventually get stuck on the situation and Lou Kelly takes the next 3 to make it even. She steal the next game but Lou Kelly outplayed her to take another game. But Komang Ayu rise in the last 2 game and beat Lou Kelly 6-4. The last set was rather easy when Komang Ayu seems to have lost her power. Lou Kelly easily wins the first 4 games and Komang Ayu could steal another 2. Lou Kelly then takes the 7th game to make a match point. But Komang Ayu could block his way by taking the next game. Lou then give his best performance in the 9th game and win the match eventually.

Daniel Joviano was tragically easily lost to Ferrie Phytt by only 3 sets. He lost easily in the first set by only win 2 games from Phytt. He rise up in the second set and make effort to force Phytt to the edge. But Daniel get stuck when both players get even winning game (4-4) and Phytt take advantage of the situation by taking another 2 games to win the second set. Daniel making his best effort in the third set to block Phytt. He outplayed Phytt and forced him into a tie break. But again, Daniel get stuck in the tie break when he easily lost the last 2 games to Phytt and leave the competition early.

Reihan Ahmadi get a tough match when he meet Enda Scayence. The first two sets were a tiring matches when Reihan was force to go through a long tie break by Scayence. Although he eventually win both sets, but Reihan get powerless in the third set and leave the set to Scayence victory. Scayence playing improve further in the forth set but Reihan could forced a tie break although it was a useless effort. Scayence wins by 7-5. In the fifth set, Reihan was already exhausted. He was easily beaten up by Scayence by only steal 3 games from her. 6-3 for Scayence.

Rarungan last and also the nation star player, Ketut Sudiarsa is the only player to go through the qualifying round. He met Sravantha Slevin in a very tight match. Ketut get shocked when he lost to Slevin in the first set although he still could force a tie break. He then rise up in the second set and block Slevin after taking 4 games. 6-4 for Ketut Sudi. The third set was tiring when they continue into another tie break session. Slevin could take it even (6-6) but lost in the last game to Ketut Sudi. Another long set coming in the forth set. Ketut Sudi played well at first but Slevin could balance Ketut Sudi game and forced another tie break. Ketut then make a number of unforced error that make Slevin took the set. Ketut Sudi then make up his failure in the last match. He takes first the first 3 games just to let Slevin overtake the other 3 games. Ketut then take another 2 games to make a match point but Slevin could block him in his last attempt before Ketut take the 10th games and win the match.

Overall, Rarungan still only placed 1 of its player in the single competition while the other 5 have lost in the qualifying round. In the next round, Ketut Sudiarsa will play in Group 12 together with Samuel Goodman, Mary Moore and Otis Grenne.

Al Montis de Surmar v. Piper Antoine (7-5, 6-2, 7-5)
Mitch Carlton v. Reagan Harris (6-3, 6-3, 6-4)

Welcome to another day in Kannap, as the Llamanean tennis superstars go up against the world's best. de Surmar, Navsal, Kelly, Roley, and our very own Willinger lead the current rankings, but will that change?

Today, Piper Antoine went up against Al Montis de Surmar after shocking world #3 Brett Roley, with fans hoping she could repeat her stunning victory yesterday to advance here. However, it was not to be, as de Surmar dispatched Antoine in straight sets (7-5, 6-2, 7-5). Antoine started strong and finished strong but her stamina just wasn't enough for the middle parts. Antoine was "disappointed" and needs victories against Mitch Carlton and Reagan Harris to advance. Reagan Harris lost to Mitch Carlton 6-3, 6-3, 6-4, meaning that neither of our female players have won a set in the group stage.

Dustin Willenger v. Grayson Carter (6-4, 6-3, 6-3)
Mark Markos v. Damien Gonzalez (6-0, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3)

Meanwhile, Dustin Willinger stayed undefeated, defeating Grayson Carter in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3. Willinger played through a minor ankle injury to win straight sets. He'll most likely need another win to advance. Mark Markos was also victorious, beating Damien Gonzalez in four sets after donut-holing his opponent in the first set. Markos was strong the entire match and looks to keep things up.

Elaine Foyner v. Rory Hasselhoff (4-6, 4-6, 3-6)
Lorenzo Gonzalez v. Jared White (4-6, 6-4, 2-6, 2-6)

Finally, Rory Hasselhoff shocked Elaine Foyner in straight sets (lots of this going on), 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. Hasselhoff has a must-win game against Lorenzo Gonzalez, but it won't be must-win if he beats Jared White.

That's all for today. Thanks for reading!

Refined Inwits Paper, Issue 30937, clipping 7

Postby Inwits » Tue Mar 18, 2014 4:52 pm

No Longer Invited, part 1
by Jay Oswald Illuminari

A spring in full swing and yesterday Inwitian tennis the final of a first flurry of blows. As most of our distinguished readers will not be aware1, a tournament is going on in Kannap and four Inwitians went to Kannap. To participate in it. Yes, my dear astounded intelectuals, we actually breed individuals capable of athleticism on international level. How we have come to that is an interesting story, but maybe we could save that for the next Inwitian attendance to an Invitational, when our luminous editor-in-command will bless you with a preliminary report or, even, perhaps - dare we dream - a feature on Inwitian tennis.

As for now we will content with a brief outline on the matches played, sets decided, games grinded and points exchanged by our participants in Kannap March Invitational.

Qualification Round

Geotrop Pehlivanoff loses to Betty The Homeless Tadpole (6-7, 3-6, 0-6)
Geotrop is a queer player, if there ever was one, and it was fitting that he was drawn against Betty The Homeless Tadpole, a singular character no less. The match itself played more like a slapstick silent comedy (the scoreboard should have been white on black with exclamation marks) than a purposeful physical competition. The first set went on with a few awkwardly exchanged breaks and a confusing tiebreak which at the end went to The Homeless Tadpole, though it was dificult for the viewers to figure it out themselves. In the second set Betty started getting her pollywog act together and away from slapstick. An early break, holds on serve, and two sets up after 38 minutes of play. In the third set Tadpole seems to have found her home on the court, went straight into color, skipping the classy black/white sound stage altogether, and completed an impressive apoptosis by winning all games into six. Oh, the Geotropity!

Sravantha Slevin loses to Ketut Sudiarsa (7-5, 4-6, 6-7, 7-5, 4-6)
Sravantha Slevin also lost in the qualifiers, but unlike Pehlivanoff she put up quite a figth with her trademark slice2. The counterspin Slevin puts on the ball prolonged the match and prevented quick points, which managed to offset Sudiarsa near the end of two sets, but eventually the lack of a forceful serve gave Ketut enough opportunities to seek damaging returns and take the match. I'm sure we'll be seeing more from Sravantha in the near future, though.

Kam Hiernaw loses to Samuel Goodman (4-6, 3-6, 4-6)
Kam Hiernaw, the master of short balls and lobs, was unfortunate enough to be drawn against a quick player with a good passing shot. Well, that's pretty much all that can be said about that match - Goodman completely dominated the game and never flinched. Hiernaw really needs to try and work on her weapons - there are too much a liability for now.

Ferrie Phytt wins against Daniel Joviano (6-2, 6-4, 7-5)
Ferrie Phytt, who is perhaps the most convential athlete of the whole Inwitian bunch, managed to convert her good form into a win against Daniel Joviano. Quick of the mark, Phytt finished the first set in less than 1/4h and even took an early break in the second, but gradually slowed down, presumably in order to preserve her fitness. In the third set she almost came to regret that decision by letting the games go to seven, but finally finished off the match without the drama of a tiebreak.

Munda Scayence wins against Reihan Ahmadi (6-7, 6-7, 6-4, 7-5, 6-3)
Scayence had a good day of lab testing equipment that day, when the combination of a Vectran Acetate Creeptm strings and Osmotex HyperTonictm beverage paid of in outlasting an otherwise equivalent and very capable opponent. Yeah Scayence!

Bartholomaus Schwendendorffer wins against Salmon Dent (0-6, 6-1, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3)
Qualification day had one unfortunate match-up between two Inwitians. Despite sharing the same nationality, they have little more in common on court. Bartholomaus Schwendendorffer3 is another cerebral contestant, but of a different kind. Bartholomaus, an avid chess player, is a brilliant tactitian on court. This is a skill that he uses to a great extent to compensate for his rather mediocre tennis skills. In fact, Schwendendorffer seems to care not one bit about his tennis skills, focusing exclusively on tactical play. On the other hand, Salmon Dent seems unable to focus on anything, much less care about it. Salmon went out on court in his bathrobe and often looked startled at the umpire's 'time' call. However, Dent possesses this inexplicable ability to have things go in his way (at least when he bothers standing in the way, that is). Such was the first set. Bartholomaus saw all of his carefully thought out plans ridiculously fall apart by an apparently nonchalant Salmon. The thing is, Bartholomaus constructs his play on rigid logic, while Salmon relies on the constant offhand surprise at seeing a ball travelling in his direction. And this drives Bartholomaus crazy. At the end of the first set you could see him, hair awry, muttering angrily to himself in hissin'n'spittin' German dialect. Two games in the seconds set, however, Salmon Dent stops play to have a long discussion with the umpire. He seems angry and has a lie down on the court in protest. After a bit of hussle and confusion it turns out the whole fuss wasn't about a close line call, but rather because of a missing pickle in Salmon's sandwitch. A ballboy was promptly ushered to retreive the pickle off-court, but the damage was done and Dent didn't win any more games in the set. In the third Bartholomaus already had his plan going and despite miscalculation in the fourth, claimed the fifth and match.

Quaint Quincidence loses to Mitch Carlton (3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 5-7, 4-6)
Quaint Quincidence is arguably the most talented and elegant player in Inwits. He is the brightest star and the all-round favourite. Capable of all shots and masterful improvisation, his only downfall - thought he would never put it that way - is his utter disregard to winning. His attitude to point is qualitative, not quantitative. Actually much could be said about Quaint, and about the match, and even full paragraphs could be written on a single point, but I've overstayed my welcome in your mind's eye, my dear reader, and so must bid you farewell...

1 This being the very first time a tennis related article appears in RIP, not counting the obituary on David Hal Sylvanshine, but let that be laid for another time.
2 So acute it could only be written in italics.
3 No relation.

Going very well for Britonisea

Group Stage 1 - Round 3 Results
Abi Forrest v. Mocklemare (3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, 6-2)

As time passes, you really get on the brink of distruction with Abi Forrest. She will let you down. Put she proved us wrong a few days ago as she won her match against Mocklemare 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, 6-2. This is very good as we know she can do a long match in the hot suns of Kannap. We are hoping on Abi to go far and to be the first women in ages to win a inter-gender tennis tournament. Britonisea has potential.

Peter P Larry v. Valeria Vanine (7-5, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6)

Peter P Larry (Ranked 6th in the world), as we discussed, is very good and he can get to the final of the competition if he puts his mind to it. He beat Valeria 7-5, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6. Very glorious for Peter P Larry and we hope that he can stay in this competition and not be knocked out by someone at a lower ranking.

Igor Zyryanov v. Dunkun Newman (5-7, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5)

New boy, Dunkun Newman is not doing very well so far as he loses to Igor 5-7, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 loosing the last three sets against Igor. It was quite tough but he didn't get there in the end! Dunkun, on the other hand, is not a person to rely on when it comes to tennis as he may drop out the competition next round. But we always hope for him to win and we hope that he can succeed. In a conference at our News station in Kannap he says "Igor is a very good player and I am happy that I played. I probably was not playing to the best of my ability today, but, he is still good and that is why he has an alright ranking. I will hope to see him again in May or July. But not March" He left the conference manly as Igor had a chat with us.

Ricardo Toli v. Ferrie Phytt (6-3, 2-6, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5)

Ricardo Toli (World Ranked #13) has beaten a new player, Ferrie, 6-3, 2-6, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5. Ricardo Toli played abysmal in the middle of the game. Ferrie took the second and the third sets by quite a margin! Ricardo then got tired of this and he advanced beating his rival 6-1 in sets. Although Ferrie put on a great show in the final sets, it was not good enough as world ranked 13 (Britonisea's Ranked 2) beat Ferrie 7-5. He was very very happy as he jumped in the air with glee and laughter.

Lance Mance v. Walter Goodman (6-2, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3)

Lance Mance, Britonish Ranked 3, beat Walter Goodman 6-2, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. This was relatively a quick and easy match as Lance took the first 2 sets by a big margin. He was pleased with himself. As he thought he got the ball in his bag, Walter took the third set 4-6. Lance Mance was devastated and needed to do something about this! His serves and back hands helped him a lot as he beat Walter 6-3. We will see Lance later today...

KNN: Sports

Kannapian National News is back after a week long vacation from the national televisions of Kannap. We are returning into the sporting world for the Kannap-March Invitational. This tournament is part of the Month Tennis Championships series and will be contributing to the Association of Tennis Professionals rankings. As our Kannapian viewers know, our nation is centered around tennis when it comes to sports. It is our national sport and most athletes in Kannap are tennis players.

Now onto the performances of our athletes for the past week. Kannap started this tournament with five athletes: Brianna Powell (#9), Samantha Howell (#17), Becky Short (NR), Walter Goodman (NR), and Samuel Goodman (NR).

In the qualifying round, Becky Short lost to Peter P Larry: 7-5, 1-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. However, with this terrible loss of Becky Short, our athletes Brianna Powell, Samantha Howell, and the Goodman brothers all advanced forward to the first group stage.

In the first group stage:

Brianna Powell
Powell was placed into group 8 along with: Nathalie Thomsen, Ione Denzil, and Johann Svennzar.

Brianna Powell v. Johann Svennzar (6-1, 6-4, 6-4)
This was the first match of the first group stage. Brianna Powell was feeling very confident entering this match against opponent Johann Svennzar. In the first set it was obvious that Powell would win from its beginning. However, in the second and third sets Svennzar gave Powell a challenge. Svennzar started the second set with a 0-3 lead, but Powell made a come back finishing the set at 6-4. The same was true for the third set, as Svennzar started gained a quick 1-4 lead, but was lost to Powell again at 6-4.

Brianna Powell v. Ione Denzil (3-6, 5-7, 5-7)
The second match of the first group stage was a humiliating loss for Brianna Powell, Kannap's star tennis athlete. She was ousted in the first set 3-6 but believed she could make a quick turn around on opponent Ione Denzil. She began the second set with a 4-0 lead but was ultimately beaten by Denzil again 5-7. The third set looked similar the whole way through, Powell starting with a 3-0 lead but being again beaten 5-7.

Brianna Powell v. Nathalie Thomsen (6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3)
Brianna Powell entered the third match of the first group stage with a painful migraine. She continued on with her match against Nathalie Thomsen despite her fellow athletes' advice to drop out of the match against Thomsen. She was not disappointed with her determination to continue playing through the pain. She beat Nathalie after four sets. This confirmed that Brianna Powell would be moving on to the second group stage.

Samantha Howell
Howell was placed into group 14 along with: Michael Yu, Tamsin Strickland, and Ariel Limcaco.

Samantha Howell v. Ariel Limcaco (6-4, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2)
Samantha Howell entered this tournament strong against opponent Ariel Limcaco. She beat Limcaco in the first two sets of this match, 6-4 and 6-1, respectively. The third set was won by Limcaco, showing that Howell is indeed not invincible. Limcaco shut Howell down in the third set with 1-6. However, Howell returned in the final set by shutting down Limcaco with a 6-2 win.

Samantha Howell v. Tamsin Strickland (6-7, 1-6, 6-0, 6-4, 6-4)
Samantha Howell's second match of the tournament was stressful to watch. She faced opponent Tamsin Strickland with encouragement that she would easily beat him. However, the first two sets were lost 6-7 and 1-6. Howell was humiliated by the second set but she would not give up with the match. The final three sets showed that Howell is here to win the tournament, as she beat Strickland 6-0, 6-4, and 6-4 in the final three sets of this match.

Samantha Howell v. Michael Yu (3-6, 7-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3)
Samantha Howell beat Michael Yu in a close match. The first set was quickly won by Yu 3-6. However, the second match was a close battle to see who could win it and keep the competitiveness going. Despite Yu's hard efforts, Howell won the second set. The third set was again close and again won by Howell. The fourth set was not as close and won by Yu. However, the final set appeared to be a reverse of the first set, with Samantha Howell winning it 6-3 and moving on to the second group stage.

Walter Goodman
Walter was placed into group 15 along with: Lance Mance, Eloise Lumbo, and Pia Rollon.

Walter Goodman v. Eloise Lumbo (6-1, 6-4, 6-7, 7-6)
Walter Goodman's first match at the international stage also ended up well. Walter faced opponent Eloise Lumbo in the first match of the first group stage. He beat her 6-1 and 6-4 in the first two sets before losing 6-7 in the third set. He turned the fourth set around on Lumbo, winning 7-6.

Walter Goodman v. Pia Rollon (4-6, 6-2, 6-2, 7-6)
Walter Goodman moved on to his second match of the tournament to face Pia Rollon. He was determined to beat this lady tennis athlete easily and quickly. However, his first set was lost 4-6 against his female opponent. However, he quickly turned around to win the final three sets 6-2, 6-2, and 7-6. He was glad to decisively win the second and third sets. He admits that Rollon had him nervous the fourth and final set as it appeared she was going to make a comeback victory.

Lance Mance v. Walter Goodman (6-2, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3)
Walter Goodman lost to Lance Mance after four sets in his final match of the first group stage. However, Goodman managed to advance on to the second group stage. The negative side to him advancing is that he was placed into a group with Lance Mance and Brianna Powell in the second group stage and it is doubtful that he will continue to the round of 16.
Samuel Goodman
Samuel was placed into group 12 along with: Ketut Sudiarsa, Mary Moore, and Otis Grenne.

Samuel Goodman v. Mary Moore (7-6, 4-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3)
Samuel Goodman's first match in this group stage was a good one. It was also his second ever match at the international stage, after the qualifying match played for this tournament ahead of the group stage. He quickly came in and showed the world that he could stand up against opponents at the international level, though he cut it close with a 7-6 against Mary Moore in his first set. In the second and third sets, Moore overpowered Samuel and took the wins there with 4-6. When it was just beginning to look grim for Samuel, he moved on to beat Mary Moore in the final two sets: 6-4 and 6-3, respectively.

Samuel Goodman v. Otis Grenne (3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-1)
Samuel Goodman continued impressively in his second match, beating opponent Otis Grenne. He lost the first set, sadly, 3-6. He was heartbroken to lose the first set but did not let it stop him. He returned in the second set to beat Grenne 6-4. He continued to the third set, still beating Grenne, 6-3. The final set was a shutting out against Grenne. Samuel obtained a 5-0 lead throughout most of the set, but allowed Grenne to gain some sunlight before beating him 6-1.

Ketut Sudiarsa v. Samuel Goodman (6-3, 6-4, 7-6)
Samuel Goodman failed to achieve victory in his third and final match of the group stage. He quickly lost to Ketut Sudiarsa in straight sets. This loss is what eliminated Goodman from the tournament and prohibited him from moving on to the second group stage.

Predictions for our athletes
Samantha Howell - We predict that she will make it to the round of 16 and possibly advance to the continue all the way to the semi-finals before being eliminated. However, our prediction is that we'll see her eliminated in the round of 16.

Walter Goodman - We expect him to be eliminated in the second group stage without any chance of him advancing to the round of 16.

Brianna Powell - We predict that Brianna Powell will advance to the round of 16 with no problem and that she will make it to at least the semi-finals. We can even expect another showdown between Brianna Powell and Al Montis de Surmar in the final match of this tournament. Such a match could go either in the favor of Surmar like in the Second Kinterten, or it could be won by Powell as revenge against Surmar for his victory over her in the Second Kinterten. However, our prediction is to see Surmar beat Powell in the final.
