Here it is. The moment you've all been waiting for. The single most awesome spectacle that will ever occur ever!
At least, that's the plan ...

The 55th Baptism of Fire tournament!
(Cue rapturous applause)

Fifty teams will begin their voyage into World Cup football here. Fresh-faced, eager and unsure of what awaits them. Firstly, don't worry. We've all been there. Secondly, just have fun. This forum's about the experience. Get involved and you'll enjoy it more.

So what happens now? What do I do?

Let's begin with the basics. A good place to start with any sports competition is your roster. You know, a team sheet. Let everyone know who plays for your nation. This can be anything from a simple list of names to a rigorous set of individual biographies for each of your 25 or however many squad members. Remember that not only will a detailed team sheet provide your opponents with a more accurate view of your squad, hence better qualified to reference them in their own RPs but you yourself get an RP bonus for it. How cool is that! So a good roster and a good RP prior to matchday 1 effectively scores double points.

Also, to have a little control over your results, include a style modifier. This is a number between -5 and +5 which dictates how attacking or defensive your team are. -5 is ultra-defensive and +5 is all-out attacking. This won't affect the eventual outcome of your matches, merely the amount of goals scored in the game.

Within your teamsheet, it is a wise idea to include your RP permissions. Yes, we're all about the interaction here but given some of the potential craziness which can unfold, setting boundaries is a good plan. Here's a usual RP permissions box.

So take this, stick it at the bottom of your roster and fill out according to your own preferences. Also take into account other peoples permissions when composing your own RPs. If you're unsure whether they'd be okay with something or have a wacky idea which would breach their permissions, send them a TG. Failing to adhere to a person's RP permissions is frowned upon here and as such, any player who deliberately contradicts another person's permissions will have their RP bonus set to 0. If you don't set any permissions however, don't come crying to me when Harry the disgruntled hippopotamus breaks into the stadium and eats your goalkeeper. Or similar.

Now it's time to RP. How do I get maximum points?

Ok. So how do I RP well?

Much better. You RP well by creating something interesting. It could be a series of match reports detailing major events in your games. You could create a story where a bunch of terrorists are attempting to abduct your team captain. It could be the diary or blog of your star player. Anything goes and if Northern Sunrise and myself enjoy reading it, you will score well for it. After reading all the RPs for each match day, we will grade each nation's RP(s) between 0-3 and add them to your rank before creating the scores.

Do take into account 'Acts of Margaret' as they're called here. There is still a random element in the creation of the scores so just because your RP is impeccable and your opponent hasn't even posted a roster doesn't guarantee you a win.

Just one more thing. From this point on, let's try and keep this thread IC. Any OOC questions or queries should go here in the original bid thread. Hope you have a good tournament, and sorry if you already knew everything detailed above.

About Paradystopia

Overview

Located in the far east of Esportiva, Paradystopia is a large, tranquil country renowned for its beautiful landscape, liberal politics and friendly, welcoming peoples. From the verdant fields on the sides of Mt. Yebenivrucha near Dzias, through the thick forests to the warm beaches which surround most of our country, Paradystopia is a perfect holiday destination for any type of tourist. We hope our guests can find the time to see some of our land before their departure.

The People

There are too many demographics of people in Paradystopia to give an accurate description of all their individual quirks and habits. Nearly all the big cities are cosmopolitan hubs and people's customs so varied that the best advice we can give is to be respectful and polite and this will be be reciprocated. Please be aware that in Paradystopia, things such as public nudity, polyamorous gay couples and public drug use are all legal and in some areas, commonplace. In general, our peoples are a fun-loving bunch and very accommodating. The only sure-fire to irritate a Paradystopi is to attempt to enforce your beliefs upon them as most of the populace consider this obnoxious behaviour. A reasoned debate is welcomed, but telling someone what they should believe without a decent argument to back it up is unlikely to make new friends here.

Transport

Getting around Paradystopia is pretty simple. A high-speed railway connects most of the major cities (all of those involved in hosting matches are connected) and there are many hydrofoil services between the major cities on the islands and those on the coast of the mainland. All necessary travel arrangements for the Baptism of Fire have been made already so you needn't worry about that.

Money

Paradystopi money is notoriously awkward to deal with. The unit of currency is the Paradystopi Chunk, represented thusly. ¤200,00¤ (note that the symbol both acts as a prefix and suffix). The major difficulty comes with conversion rates as currently NS$1 = c.¤200,419¤ meaning that even small objects can cost tens of thousands chunks. To further complicate matters, prices are usually displayed in standard index form. Below is an image of a Paradystopi banknote.

All we can say is 'Good Luck' and if you ask really nicely, you may be able to pay in NS$ ...

NATIONAL INFORMATION

Welcome to Northern Sunrise Islands! One half of the two hosts of this Baptism of Fire. Founded in 1970 after a union of random drops of other nations when they moved through the lands and later being the nation that received a whole lot of Pokémon escaping from their destroyed nation, the Arceusian Republic of Northern Sunrise Islands is an archipelago of more than forty islands that keeps growing via economical transations. Yeah, our place's a bit weird, but you're all going to learn more about our welcoming land as the tournament goes on and maybe, who knows, we could become an interesting destination for you to move in!

WEATHER
Weather at most of the Islands is fairly regular, normally ranging from 36º C to 29º C during daytime at Summer and Spring, with nights ranging from 28º C to 17º C at night. After hours normally are fairly cold, so beware. During winter, a day could go from 26º C to 15º C. Only two parts of the entire country have a different weather, though going there is mostly optional to any delegation participating. Lynder Island is notorious for being a sole peak with its cities scattered around said peak, weather is normally cold, with winter having traces of snow. A part of Corneria Island is known as the Shamar Desert, being hotter than normal, thanks to what, according to historians, is the influence of a multitude of Sand-related Pokémon infesting the area. As said, both of these areas are accessible normally, but there won't be any matches at these places.

FAUNA / PEOPLE
While most countries would have their typical mammals and what else, Northern Sunrise Islands is almost guaranteed as the first country around NS Sports that features Pokémon as their fauna. Some of these would later be accepted as citizens of Northern Sunrise Islands, mostly thanks to the creation of a voice box by Silph Co. that allows psychic Pokémon to speak freely, thus allowing them to get jobs and eventually become members of our society. Talking about our society, we can safely say we're rather... freedom fans when compared to most countries. Our population being made of common humans, nekonians (half-cat, half-humans) and also the small but growing group of half-pokémon, half-humans, aside from the afore mentioned Psychic Pokémon population just shows our status as benchmark.

TRANSPORTATION AND ACCOMMODATIONS
Normally, we would just let you travel via ship, because of how our country is an archipelago and that is pretty much the easiest way to travel. But as a bonus, we will also allow our just-passed means of transportation, Alakazam Travelling. Each squad will be lent a Pokémon Trainer registered by the National Pokémon League and a trained Alakazam, who will serve as the teletransporter, thus being a mean of transportation that is Exactly What It Says on the Tin. Our accommodations are common, high-quality hotels placed near the stadiums. You should not be afraid of the people working there, as we already mentioned how every part of our population works around. No exceptions.

VENUES

HOST VENUE OF GROUP A
Parque Azaléia is a stadium placed at Fernando de Honduras, a major city inside Astúrias Island. With a capacity of 15,000 seats, this is the smallest venue of the tournament at our side, but don't underestimate this venue, as the small crowd equals to one hell of an exciting venue. It will also be a venue to one of the Round of 16 matches. People at this area speak Portuguese.

HOST VENUE OF GROUP B
A 50,000 seater stadium, the Voltsutakage Requiemarena is the biggest venue at Sunrice City, a major city from once-colony Sunrice Island. Home of Sunrice United, this stadium was once part of the bid for the Under-15 World Cup 5, first tournament hosted by the Islands, but had to go under renovations.

HOST VENUE OF GROUP C
The Babylon Gardens were presented as the first ever cross-over venue of Northern Sunrise Islands. Built under an agreement between the Flying Pokémon Gym of the Pokémon League of Amy Island and the Matthew City Rangers Football Club, the Babylon Gardens is known from its' ability to raise from the ground via Psychic power. It's also known for having adaptable extremities based on different Pokémon types.

HOST VENUE OF GROUP D
A 57,500 seater stadium at Moncton, a city at the francóphone island of Arrendine; Stade de Moncton is known for its' cozy seats and good architecture. Being the home venue of Moncton Nordiques, a considered follow-up to the Moncton Citadelles football team, who would later find its' way into hockey. To sum up, their owner's history is weird. But, hey, it's a safe venue.

HOST VENUE OF GROUP E
Estádio Ronaldo de Assis Moreira or to put it shortly Décimo Coelho is the stadium of Joinville de Desportos, a top tier team from Northern Sunrise Islands. A 60,000-seater, it's the biggest stadium of the first round at Northern Sunrise Islands. It should also be noted that this is at a Portuguese-speaking island known as Juliana, whose land came from a destroyed Huelandian Empire.

HOST VENUE OF THE QUARTER-FINALS
Burning Road, a 63,700 seater at Tokyoto, capital of Tokyoto Island, one of the two Japanese-speaking Islands of the Republic is known for its' heated crowd. With the look of a frying pan, this stadium happens to be in the considered "common" part of the city, not being at the part of the city where armed girls in pijamas run through the streets, nor the part where kids on roller blades paint the walls with graffiti.

HOST VENUE OF THE SEMI-FINALS
Lylat Starfox's home venue, Corneria Park is a 70,000-seater stadium who commonly (but sadly non pictured) feature Arwing exhibitions before matches, generating an spectacle in the air. Lylat Starfox also happens to be the team heading in this UICA cycle as the current champion of the Sunrise Championship A and also runners-up of the Globe Cup and the Campionato Esportivano di Campeones, the regional club tournament of Esportiva.

HOST VENUE OF THE 3RD PLACE PLAY-OFF
Mardi's Union Stadium is by far the most important stadium inside the Northern Sunrise Islands. Serving as home venue to both Northern Sunrise Islands' national football team and Mardi Lopunnies, the stadium is also one of the most important points inside the capital of the Arceusian Republic of Northern Sunrise Islands, Mardi City.

The Official List for the Drekkevaas Squad in The Baptism of Fire

The squad of Drekkevaas was chosen among the best performing players in the Drekkevaas Natyonal Lig.1. Those players will have the distinction and honor of being the squad for the Drekkevaas' National Team's first major international tournament. Without further ado, below this paragraph is the list of all of the players chosen and a short bio.

Starting Eleven

Goalkeeper: Haden Ausplatze - Waen Starlight - 21 - Haden Ausplatze was the leading force in the Waen Starlight having the lowest goals conceded total in the league this past season. He made some great saves, and even scored once (a penalty against Zrboch y Citien) but the main reason why he was chosen was because of his outstanding consistency.

Right Back: Zejran Lundje - Brrachu Sylebba - 24 - Zejran Lundje was the driving defender behind Brrachu Sylebba's title run. A versatile defender, he can play anywhere in the defense and up at the wings in midfield. He made some great tackles, and it has been said about him that he was the Defender of the Year, for his skill in stopping the opposition from scoring.

Right Center Back: Jaan Helenki - Allaen Nightclouds - 17 - Jaan Helenki, despite playing for the under-performed Allaen NIghtclouds, was chosen for his versatility and ability to read the field. For being 17 years of age, Jaan has had a remarkable career, scoring 10 goals and making the Top 5 Defenders list at the end of the season. He has always played with his lucky number 96.

Left Center Back: Aidur Flaan - Ameran Fighting Jiraffas - 28 - Aidur Flaan is, at 28, the oldest player on the national team. Having played overseas for most of his career, he came back with the first edition of the Drekkevaas Natyonal Lig.1 and he signed for the Fighting Jiraffas. Along with left back Jhantu Vecci, he one of the reasons the Fighting Jiraffas made it to the Globe Cup spot.

Left Back: Jhantu Vecci - Ameran Fighting Jiraffas - 22 - Jhantu Vecci was the playmaker of the Fighting Jiraffas. Able to play on both wings in defense and midfield, he helped center back Aidur Flaan shore up the defense of the Fighting Jiraffas to get them to the Globe Cup spot. He also made 3rd on the Top 5 Defenders list.

Right Midfield: Arhanne Kraku - Drekkevaas City Thunder - 20 - Arhanne Kraku was the MVP of the under-performed Drekkevaas City Thunder, who were expected to finish in the Champions Cup or Globe Cup spots. Arhanne was the only real bright spot in the Thunder's season. Having picked him up from an amateur side, the Thunder proceeded to jump out of the bottom 3 and into midtable. Kraku is also a very versatile midfielder, able to play anywhere in the outfield.

Right Center Midfield: Doge Ghanaica - Drekkevaas Citien Klub - 24 - Doge Ghanaica was one of the star of Drekkevaas Citien Klub, who disappointingly finished out of the international tournament spots. A hard worker, he is known for charging all the way back to his own 18 yard box, getting the ball, and dribbling past the entire opposition team to score at the other end.

Left Center Midfield: Rache Daugen-Flenzefeld - Bellacasse Town - 19 - Rache Daugen-Flenzefeld was the playmaker of the Bellacasse Town squad, who defied expectations to become the leading scorer in the Drekkevaas Natyonal Lig.1 in its first season. He has a great boot and can shoot from 30 yards out to test the keeper.

Left Midfield: Ahjalo Ommaeran - Fleenzig Klub - 26 - Ahjalo Ommaeran was the backbone of Fleenzig Klub. While not helping out in the defense or sending balls up to the strikers, Ahjalo has a great shot and scored the longest-range goal this year, scoring on a 60-yard lob over the keeper's head into the goal.

Second Striker: Lennaire Faschi - Brrachu Sylebba - 20 - Lennaire Faschi was one of the other reasons why Brrachu Sylebba won the league title. Along with brother Gerhain, he made up the leading scoring partnership in the league. He was 2nd on the Top 5 Strikers list.

Center Forward: Gerhain Faschi - Brrachu Sylebba - 20 - Gerhain Faschi made up the second half of the league-leading striking partnership that was the Faschi brothers. He made 1st on the Top 5 Strikers list because of his skill in making an opportunity out of positions that seem almost impossible.

El Equipo Nacional de Dorado Grande

Dorado Grande was founded by Francisco Orellano and Gonzalo Pizarro in 1541, which was the year that they discovered El Dorado, the legendary city of gold. Upon marvels that were beyond their wildest dreams, they slaughtered the native populace and began to dismantle the city in order to ship the gold back to Spain. When they tried to leave, the gods of the natives prevented them from doing so, and they became disoriented or even killed if they left the boundaries of the city. In time, the Spaniards began to worship these gods, calling them the Forest Gods. However, there is still a portion of the Doradan people who reject these gods, calling them the Dark Gods.

After 500 years of isolation, several citizens of Dorado Grande were able to escape, and the opened a time channel to the present day. Some Doradans are skilled football players due to the gift of a Forest God. They have their own domestic league, and they look forward to testing their skills against others. They are used to slightly different rules at home, so expect harder tackles, vicious Spanish curse words, blood sacrifice, etc. Also, women and men take part in football and are both represented on the national team. Insulting a woman is a misdemeanor in Dorado Grande, so expect a swift kick in the ribs if one of your players is in any way rude to the women of our team.

If you are a guest in Dorado Grande, you will be staying at La Taberna de los Toros. Feel free to interact with the locals, all it will take is a bit of basic Spanish.

One year ago, The Commonwealth of Lojal, gained independence from The Sarian, since then a lot has changed in the small Island.

The Island, which is administered by the Lord Protector, an unelected leader of The National Peoples Parliament, adopted a fundamentalist view after taking power, with the once outlawed Christianity taking center stage, while LGBT rights were all but abolished.

J. Teatime: Jonathon Teatime (Te-ah-ta-meh) was born in Lohikäärme City, in the northern reaches of Annar. He became a football player of some renown, until he lost one of his eyes in a freak accident. He replaced it with a false, glass, one, and it was thought that he would never play again due to a lack of depth perception. it was "thought" incorrectly. He trained for several years, until he was as good as before, and now he again plays for our team.

A. Tailor: Arthur Tailor is our second string goalkeeper, being not quite as good as Teatime. He is still an excellent keeper. Arthur lives with his family in the countryside of Annar, working as a farmer in his time off.

Defenders:

M. Scott: Matthew Scott is one of our starting central defenders. He was born to Annarian parents who were living in another country, but has since moved back. He is a lawyer in real life, and all to often overzealous fans have found themselves being expertly prosecuted by a player they had mocked. He is of course completely impartial.

W. Door: William (Bill) Door is our other central defender. No one knows very much about him, but he can certainly play football. He says he is a farmer, if pressed.

R. Giles: Renard Giles is our acclaimed starting right defender. He is getting on slightly in years, but he is still the best right defender we've got. He's normally a librarian.

J. Marvin: Jack Marvin is our starting left defender. He is known for extreme paranoia, and often gets "injured" from very normal plays. He also takes dives. He is a good player otherwise.

Q. Trent: Our backup left back, Quinten Trent is very new player. He wants to prove himself. He will probably have some chances. Marvin will most likely get injured.

Z. McIntyre: Zachary McIntyre is our back up right defender. He seems to be very ambitious.

T. McClain: Tristan McClain is one of our back up center backs. He doesn't always show up to games, and is thought of as a Ne'er-do-well. He's a pretty fair tackler, though.

J. Jameson: John Jameson is a pretty average guy, off the pitch and on it. He hasn't distinguished himself yet. He plays center back.

Midfielders:

J. Rincewind: Jeremy Rincewind is a really really fast runner. He also has a knack for avoiding defenders. He is kind of scared of getting tackled. Or touched. Or even having the ball. He plays right midfield.

K. Miller: Kalnt Miller is a very good center midfielder. He has an unfortunate tendency to bark at the other players. He is also generally captain of the squad.

A. Naismith: Archibald Naismith plays center mid. He is known for very risky and often overly vicious tackles. He does them well, however.

H. Lazarus: Hector Lazarus is our starting left-midfielder. He is known for tactical prowess, on and off the pitch. It is thought that one day he will coach a team.

W. Smith: Wesley Smith is our back-up right midfielder. He is known to be recklessly courageous, and is often caught in off-sides traps.

C. Farnon: Christopher Farnon is a second-string center-midfield. He is our top-scoring midfielder, but is also a bit cocky. and is loathe to part from the ball. He wanted to play striker, but could only find a position as midfielder.

J. Smith: Center midfielder. No one actually believes that this his name. He is a very average player.

V. Talov: Vladimir Talov is a excellent left midfielder, but he is very prone to mood swings, and only plays well on certain days.

Strikers:

J. Javert: Jacques Javert is a right striker. He is very conscientious of the rules, and hardly ever gets fouled. When he does, it is for arguing with the referee over calls.

S. Vimes: Samuel Vimes is an excellent left striker, who is the chief goal scorer of the Annarian side. He works with the police when he is not playing

T. Lamath: Trymon Lamath is a rather poor right striker, but he is very charismatic, and the rest of the team listens to him. Excepting Marvin.

G. Sorenson: George Sorenson is a left striker who is very skilled, but he is doesn't want to play football. He is unmotivated, but it is a way to earn money.

Official Communique from the Lord Protector

People of Lojal,

As we mark one year since our glorious independence from the torrid islands known as The Sarian, I have seen it necessary to reward you, the people of Lojal for your loyalty to the Commonwealth and dismay at the corrupt monarchy of that so called 'Sarian' with it's tax wasting, bureaucratic parliament.

So as my reward, I am abolishing the Lojal National Parliament, and replacing it with myself. I am also providing parties all around the country to celebrate this momentous occasion.

But, as you can imagine, all this party throwing is very costly, so the tax cut you would have had from getting rid of Parliament has been compromised, so to make sure this was worth it, attending this party is compulsory. To make sure you abide by my proclamation, I have employed a Compulsory Order Squad, who have permission to kill people in the most comical situation possible if they fail this or any other order.

Of course, the cost of hiring this squad is astronomical, so to subsidise this, I am introducing the 'National Swear Box Scheme', now everytime you say a prohibited word, you have to donate one Imperia to the Government, which is of course me.

But of course, there is only so many times one can say the word fuck, so other words will have to be tabooed, this isn't Gregoryisgodistan, you can still say pineapple, I'm not a madman, but as for mango... I have returned from my inter-regional scouting.

Atlantian Oceania, Rushmore & Esportiva, are clearly the top three sports-dedicated regions, then lying in fourth place is World Changers and in fifth is quite debatable, it's either Equatoria or FIFA.

Then we have the do a bit of everything with decent sports ones, like Esquarium, Oceanside and many others I didn't explore.

Atlantian Oceania, or AO as it's called, is clearly the oldest, they've been in almost all 67 World Cups. Their top nations are numerous, but I wasn't allowed to stay for long because some of my scouting team were arrested in Commerce Heights for spreading the Yveltalism faith, damned infidels.

Rushmore is more robust, but have only been around for roughly half as long. Their top nation is current world champions Polar Islandstates, and that's about all the data we could attain, for the same reasons.

Esportiva is the youngest of the bunch, but they have the most passion and desire to succeed. Top nations are Northern Sunrise Islands, The Licentian Islands, Apox, Paradystopia and a few others. The most promising seem to be San Jose Guayabal, Yttribia and those fucking infidel bastards who tried to destroy us, as in Nexxus Drako. DEATH TO THE DRAKONIANS!

FIFA is practically dead. And Equatoria is home to Lymantatia, a terrible troll nation.

World Changers however, is home to Saintland, another pack of infidels, and the Free Republics, whose name belies it's true freedom, which is good, the less freedom the better, ALL HAIL LORD YVELTAL.

Hopefully we can do well at the Baptism of Fire this year, I haven't yet analyzed our groups, but will do so after the first matchday.

People of Annar,

We have some very exiting news for you. For the first time in the life of our nation, we have qualified for a major international sporting competition. Our football team has been working very hard, and now have qualified to the Baptism of Fire. Our starting eleven are the finest players ever produced by this country, and we have an actual chance. Now, we don't want any of our fans to say anything impolite, so please restrain yourself. In a disturbing incident in a friendly this year someone in the crowd actually booed the other team. This is not amusing, you are only making yourself look foolish.

Be sure to tune in to watch our team compete. We will show every single match played be every team, impartial announcers included. Football aside, we also wish to announce that the Annar-wide punning competition begins tomorrow. Watch for the usual selection of really bad puns. Some old favorites are back this year, as well as some new blood.

The Drekkevan team arrived in the Northern Sunrise Islands, excited to play in their first international tournament ever. Most of the team was home-grown talent, with only 2 players in the squad having played overseas. When the team reached the hotel in the capital of the Northern Sunrise Islands, they instantly started to size up the competition. The other nations in the group were Unolia, Taslantis, Annar, and Springmont. Only Springmont had stated their roster so far, so they studied all of the information they could get. After they studied and discussed the Springmont team, they went to the practice pitch near the hotel and practiced. And practiced. And practiced. It was 9 pm when the team finally returned to the hotel, and he players enjoyed a good night of restful sleep, knowing that they could not do all that bad in the tournament.

Little did the players know, because the information reached them a week later, but the eastern city of Fleenzig was burning. People were disgruntled about the high unemployment rate and the poor economy, and the higher than normal tax rate. After suffering through years of economic depression, most people felt like they had had enough. When the Poor Medicaid Fund failed to pass the vote in Policy Hall, the people who lived in the poor suburbs outside of Fleenzig started rioting. People overturned cars and set fire to buildings and other riotous stuff like that, and then the government deployed the police into the streets. There were battles between the populace and the police in the streets of Fleenzig, and finally Drekkevaas joined the group of nations that had a major riot in a city, which was on the brink of becoming an uprising. One of the few things that prevented the uprising, though, was that the people were not fighting for independence or autonomy or other things like that. They were fighting the police, getting killed in the dozens to try to show the government that the poor people had a voice in the nation, and that they should have a say in the government too. Until then, they told the policemen, they would just keep fighting. The people in other cities and Policy Hall may have also been angry about the falling economy and high taxes, but they were not yet angry enough to riot. Not yet, at least.
