It was now time for defense attorney Bonifacio Udinese to call witnesses to the stand in the murder trial of Enemy Crusher Samuel "Porky" von Porker of the Gregoryisgodistan football team. First up was football coach Assistant Sports Minister Jorgen Roth.

BU: You are the head coach of the Gregoryisgodistan football team, correct?

JR: Yes, sir.

BU: So you were Mr. von Porker's coach, correct?

JR: Yes, that is correct.

BU: In your opinion, was Mr. von Porker a bad person?

JR: No, I believe he was very brave and noble.

BU: So you don't believe Mr. von Porker deserves to be sent away to prison for life or to face the death penalty?

JR: No, sir, I don't.

BU: Nothing further.

Now it was time for the prosecution to cross-examine the witness.

PROSECUTOR: Mr. Roth, why do you believe Mr. von Porker is brave and noble?

JR: All enemy crushers are.

P: Why is that?

JR: *pause, as if he doesn't want to answer* Because they bravely and nobly crush enemies to death.

P: So Mr. von Porker repeatedly crushed enemies to death?

JR: Yes, sir.

P: Nothing further.

At this point, Udinese was at a loss for what to do.

He had no more witnesses to call. It was clear he was going to lose the case. The best he could do was try to get his client life without parole while avoiding execution. So he offered to meet with the prosecutor in a meeting before closing statements, hoping to strike a plea. However, Sheriff Akram, knowing full well he was going to win, refused to make a deal.

It was time for the closing statements, and then for the jury to deliberate.

Just 49 minutes later, they returned.

"On the first count, first degree murder of Doug Rivers (Republican referee crushed to death) how do you find?"

"We find the defendant guilty."

"On the second count, first degree murder of Hershel Shannon (Caek of Wolfen player crushed to death), how do you find?"

"We find the defendant guilty."

"On the third count, using a dangerous weapon (namely his own 500 pound body) in the murder of Doug Rivers, how do you find?"

"We find the defendant not guilty."

"On the fourth count, using a dangerous weapon in the murder of Hershel Shannon, how do you find?"

"We find the defendant not guilty."

"So to be clear, he is guilty of both murders, but his own body does not qualify as a dangerous weapon."

"Yes, that is correct. We cited a previous case where a man with a dental problem that resulted in unusually sharp teeth was acquitted of dangerous weapon charges after biting another man. We don't think his freakish body qualifies as a dangerous weapon."

"Mr. von Porker may have gotten off on the dangerous weapon charges, but he is still facing two first degree murder convictions. I am the one to decide the sentence, and I hereby sentence Mr. von Porker to death. The execution will take place at the earliest possible time. Per the request of the families of Mr. Shannon and Mr. Rivers, the execution will take place in private, with no guests allowed to attend except those whose presence is required by law. May God have mercy on your soul."

Enemy Crusher Samuel "Porky" von Porker Executed

BREAKING NEWS: Enemy Crusher Samuel "Porky" von Porker has been executed in Free Republics for two murders committed as a member of the football team during the World Bowl. He was executed in Republican prison earlier this morning. His last words were reportedly "I will be a guest in Lord Almighty Gregory's Kingdom of Heaven pretty soon. May he condemn you all to hell for your sins." The enemy crusher then attempted to crush the executioner to death, but was quickly restrained and the execution eventually continued as planned.

Sanctii Customs Seizes DVDs of hit TV show Real Husbands of Saintland

Sanctii customs have seized DVDs of the hit TV show Real Husbands of Saintland which were disguised as birthday presents for the coach of the hockey team. The DVDs were gift wrapped. The Sanctii Customs X-ray machine was easily able to tell what was inside, and the presents were seized. The players were released without charge after denying knowledge of the contents of the packages. They claim the gifts were given to them by a fan club with instructions to give them to their coach as a surprise on his birthday, which is February 8.

To whom it may concern,

It has come to our attention and concern about what your magazine wrote ahead of the tournament opener between Lzherusskia and the Royal Kingdom of Quebec. On its latest article about World Cup of Hockey, there was a following part that couldn’t help us to laugh:

This is going to be a slugfest, plain and simple. The Ice Knights have been accused in the past of picking players primarily for their pugilistic prowess over any kind of skill or work ethic, but it's obviously a formula that's been working for them - the #10 ranking doesn't lie.

There was a huge flaw with that passage, which we will explain.

We do not select players based on their physicality and pugilistic abilities. In fact, we are not a goon squad as you claim it to be. In fact, some of our players are far from being considered as agitators in our league. The selection of the Team Quebec is done factoring in their specialised positions, as we do believe that championship team needs all types of players, from speedsters such as Monsieur Turcotte to gritty defensemen and forwards in the form of Messieurs Markov, Guthrie, Kim and to lesser extent Strojovic.

Now, I’ll give a more specific example with our captain, Mr. Logan Guthrie. Logan Guthrie, during his 9-year long career up to now, has scored at around point-per-game pace in all of his seasons. Team Quebec selected him to the Ice Knights because not only he is one of the nation’s best scorers; he brings countless other intangibles to the table. His penalty minutes(5,430) and fighting majors(342 in career) is only two of the many statistics can be used to describe Guthrie’s on-ice performance. He is also a very hard worker, contributing the most of what he is able to produce every single shift. Yet you wrote him off as a guy who got in and named Captain due to his pugilistic abilities. What a stupidity and ignorance, I’ll have to say!

I hope you’ll do your research before writing anything stupid about our players next time.

Sincerely,

Gabriel Tremblay-Sachs,

Senior Vice President, Hockey Quebec[/box]

Call it a frivolous use of a world leader's time, if you like, but I like my hockey and I had a few minutes to spare at the end of my day to respond to your complaints. More importantly, dictators rarely have to explain their actions to anybody. I understand you took umbrage at the assessment of your team as produced in one of our sporting publications. After reading the article in question and taking into account your rebuttal, I reply as follows: you must be delusional.

First, Svodlak Zabarinava never accused the team of being a "goon squad" as you put it. The piece in question reads, and I quote, "The Ice Knights have been accused in the past of picking players primarily for their pugilistic prowess". Not "The Ice Knights are a team made up of thugs". Not "The Ice Knights are a disgrace to the sport of hockey". Not even "The Ice Knights picked their team because they can punch and that's it". Just that the Ice Knights have been accused, by others, of picking players for their fighting skill. If you will lodge complaints, do try to make sure they have some legal footing.

Second: You bring up your captain, Mr. Logan Guthrie. Undoubtedly, he has plenty of skill, but when a player averages thirty-eight fights a season and spends a total of ten full games per year in the penalty box, that player has to deal with a certain reputation - to whit, that he is a thug, a scumbag, a cheap-shot artist and an all-round pathetic excuse for an athlete. Whether that reputation is fair or not is not for either of us to say and I am, of course, not saying that it is true myself. But the facts are clear - 38 fights and over 600 penalty minutes per season. These are numbers that even our own Anton Veselovski would gasp at.

Third: I went back and picked highlights from a few Quebecois matches from previous World Cups to skim through, in an effort to better educate myself about the team, and what I saw was a shockingly undisciplined squad. The illustrious Mr. Guthrie, in particular, I saw celebrating after sucker-punching a player from Saintland, being ejected multiple times in the last tournament and even fighting one of his own teammates. Complain all you want about his reputation but, on this showing, it appears shockingly well-deserved.

I leave you with one final comment. While you and your countrymen may condone such conduct, we do not. I have sent orders to the Lzherusskia staff that they are not to engage your players in fights in the opening game, regardless of any attempts from any Ice Knights to spark one. If an Ice Knight is judged to have acted with a level of violence above and beyond that expected in a hockey game, criminal charges will be pressed. I trust this will not be an issue. Until then, I remain...

Yours,

Middleton Valley Calls for Immediate Withdraw of Gregoryisgodistan from Hockey Competition

Upperton, Middleton Valley - In a press conference today, President K. A. Possible addressed the world asking for the immediate withdraw of Gregoryisgodistan from world sporting events. Possible commented, "Gregoryisgodistan is not just a nation ruled by a psychotic dictator, but it is a nation that continually violates civil and political rights of not only its citizens, but citizens of other nations as well. We need to impose sanctions and bans on Gregoryisgodistan to deter their actions. Only recently, did the Kingdom of Costa Luna be able to get their Princesa back after assassination attempts were conducted by the full-knowledge and approval of Lord Gregory of Gregoryisgodistan. During such time, the Princesa escaped to Middleton Valley, living in a remote location in the Eastern Hills region. Now, Gregoryisgodistan wants to spread propaganda and conduct illegal activities at the World Cup of Hockey in the host nation. Middleton Valley condemns these such actions by Gregoryisgodistan asks that all participating nations call for the immediate withdraw of Gregoryisgodistan from the tournament."

Possible also conveyed a message to the Middleton Valley Crazy Pups before ending the press conference saying, "I know that Middleton Valley will have a hard schedule with two very high ranking teams in the first two matches, but don't give up. You have a high-powered offense and can match any team goal for goal. Remember, to play your best as you will be representing Middleton Valley not only in the World Cup, but also in the Winter Olympics. Best of luck."

Lord Almighty Gregory's Response to the Statement of President Possible of Middleton Valley and Other News

"Good afternoon, ladies, gentlemen, and slaves. I would like to respond to a ridiculous demand issued by President K.A. Possible of Middleton Valley. It appears Ms. Possible has ordered our nation to withdraw from all international sporting competitions, including the World Cup of Hockey. I am going to make it clear that there is no chance of that happening. Ms. Possible also points to the Princess of Costa Luna being forced to flee our country. This is untrue. She was executed by our authorities for willfully violating a law and saying a forbidden word. (OOC: That word is "coconut" but she didn't actually say it. It was an actress and we faked the execution using a prop head and the same actress. The real Princess fled to Middleton Valley out of fear that we would come after her for real.)

"Such misrepresentation of the facts is highly inappropriate and I will not tolerate it when it involves this glorious country. Gregoryisgodistan will not withdraw from this competition, nor will we withdraw from any other international sporting competition. Our teams shall continue to represent this country in front of the entire multiverse. We shall not allow ourselves to be pushed around by some obscure nation like Middleton Valley.

"Lastly, at least with regards to this matter, we are officially adding Middleton Valley to our list of Public Enemy Nations, which currently includes the nations of Saintland, Free Republics, San Jose Guayabal, and Alianza Albos. The Kingdom of Costa Luna will be readded to this list as well. In spite of the fact that I have, in my infinite mercy, allowed them to rise from the dead (OOC: They really just un-CTE'd) a few months after I destroyed them with my godly powers (OOC: When they CTE'd) they should still be considered a public enemy. They refuse to recognize that it was me who destroyed them, and me, who in an infinite and unbounded act of mercy and kindness, forgave them and allowed them to return from beyond the plane of existence. They also have not learned to be remotely intelligent. Anyone who has ever watched an episode of Costa Lunians Say the Darndest Things knows Costa Luna is a nation full of idiots, and they have continued to be idiots. I recently spoke with some random Costa Lunian citizens to see if, following my reincarnation of their nation, they now believe I am God. However, they do not. They apparently do not remember being dead and simply believe the "Magic Goat Time Goat" caused the hands of time to shift forward a few months. Also, as a way of testing their intelligence, I asked the ten Costa Lunians I spoke with to figure out what 2+2 is. Four replied "five," three replied "two," one replied "222," one replied "Magic Goat Time Goat," and one replied "fish." Also, our scouts were assigned to follow the Costa Lunian hockey team prior to the Olympics. We do not consider that team a real threat to the Ice Slaves' chances. During the practice, each player attempted to eat the puck an average of five times. They also attempted to use the sticks upside down, smoke them like a cigarette, and hit the puck with them like they were playing baseball, among other things. Clearly, they are still morons. (OOC: This paragraph should not be considered remotely true IC-ly except for the part about the Public Enemy list.)

"Now, I must talk about other matters. Earlier this morning, our brave and noble hero, Enemy Crusher Samuel "Porky" von Porker, was executed in the Free Republics after being convicted of two counts of first degree murder. However, this brave and noble hero (I can not stress this enough) was simply doing his job as enemy crusher and crushing to death those who deserved to be crushed. I order Free Republics to issue a full apology immediately. They have a nice hockey team that's competing against us in a few days. We have some enemy crushers on our team. In fact, we just added a few more yesterday. It would really be a shame if something were to happen to the Republican hockey team. Wouldn't it? Yes, I think it would. And if hypothetical the Sanctii authorities arrest any hypothetical enemy crushers who hypothetically crush hypothetical Republican hockey players to their hypothetical death, it would, hypothetically speaking, be met with a severe response, likely including an invasion of that country, and an assassination of King Petrus XX, hypothetically speaking.

"Finally, I would like to wish good luck to our national baseball team in the IBS Championship Series, being held right here in Gregoryisgodistan. I attended Game 1 last night, and will be attending the remaining games of the championship series. Additionally, best of luck to Imota and Lzherusskia in the third place series of that tournament. May the best team win that series. I wish the Bat Slaves good luck in the upcoming World Baseball Classic as well. Finally, I wish the Ice Slaves best of luck in the World Cup of Hockey, and after that, in the Olympics. May you win gold in both tournaments. Thank you, and Me Bless Gregoryisgodistan."

Exclusive Chat with Kiersten Carmichael,
by Rachel Sharper, Concord Heights Times Senior Editor

Due to the tragic events of the World Bowl 22 final game that saw the assassination of King Paulus XV of Saintland, it became a bittersweet celebration for members of the Cassadagan national team. It was all too familiar with the emotions following the nation's International Basketball Championships victory, that had the dark cloud of Ashley Stokes' murder hovering about it. Now, as Cassadaigua gets set for World Cup of Hockey 23, a tournament in which they are unlikely to even make the playoffs, people wonder if there is any tragedy about to take place in this tournament? I had a chat with Kiersten Carmichael of the national football team, and we discussed a variety of topics. It was pretty interesting, so I will provide the transcript for you here:

"Kiersten, first of all congratulations on winning the World Bowl. Certainly it must have been an amazing feeling."

"It was. For us to win a World Bowl title so quickly after our return speaks volumes of the current state of Cassadagan football. It wasn't easy, but most of who were together on the team in 21 that had the cinderella ride, so to speak, to get to the final were hungry to get back. Playing in Saintland was motivating enough, and we carried that level of desire into all of our games. It was a great championship and I am honored to have been part of the team."

"Unfortunately, the celebration was short-lived, once word got out about the assassination. What was that like?"

"A few of us were already buzzed if not drunk by the time we heard the news, so I don't know if the significance of the news was as immediate. We kept to ourselves throughout the tournament, so we were oblivious to the outside world for a little while. Once we found out and had sobered up, the significance of it really set in, and it was depressing."

"Was the team that affected by the news? After all Saintland isn't seen as a ally?"

"We were. Look, you know we immediately think about what we would be thinking if it happened to Queen Cassie. The people are part of historic Royal Families, and you learn to respect that. I guess you can say that a big part of why it hits us a little bit is that we too, are an imperialist nation that has a ton of respect for our leader. I don't think King Paulus was a bad leader, really, they just do things differently."

"So now you can say you played against the new King?"

"I would certainly agree that King Petrus is a better athlete then Queen Cassie. It'd be cool if we had members of the royal family play on the national team. I have to credit the King, he wasn't just on the team because he a Prince, he was pretty damn good. I'm not sure if he will be able to continue his football career while balancing the needs of the nation, though. I think Jessica Minor should become an adopted Princess."

"Or as you said on the flag in the win over Gregoryisgodistan, Jessica Minor is God."

"I agree, absolutely! She's more of a deity, I think, then that wannabe Gregory."

"I'd be careful."

"Over what? We embarrassed and humiliated them in the World Bowl. Taunting their players, desecrated their flag, ripped up pictures of Gregory, and what did they do? Nothing. They didn't even respond in the slightest manner, and we did it to their Enemy Crushers, too. Gregory is a windbag, he talks shit about nations he knows their players can beat, but when the moment comes that a much higher ranked team throws some punches, little Gregory cowers into the corner and trembles, being completely unable to react. Pick on the little people, but run away when someone bigger challenges you. Definition of a coward."

"So now, as another sports tournament begins, will you be watching the World Cup of Hockey? Any words of advice to the hockey team since they are a big underdog?"

"I like hockey, really I do. What they need is swagger. When Meghan Stafford was in there, the team was awesome. She would score goals, lead the team to championships, and do modeling stunts in the host nation to boot. I see a very bland team. They need someone to light a fire under their collective ice skates. I'd love to go into their locker room and try to pump their asses up."

"Julie O'Connell takes over as coach, maybe she can do that."

"Hardly. She's a tactical coach, all X's and O's. Not the type."

"Then maybe first time captain Hannah Tremblay?"

"I don't really see it with her. They need confidence, they need mojo. They need someone to know they are good and rub it in the face of the other team. I hear too much of this whining shit going on that the group was too tough, you prove yourself by beating good teams, not beating newbiestan. Look at who we beat to win the World Bowl. Did we back down."

"Sounds like you should be an honorary captain!"

"Nah, I'm gonna sit back and enjoy our title."

"Sounds good. Thank you for your time."

"Thank you, still waiting for that all-World Bowl team. I need to see how much pink it has on it."

"Well, we will see how that goes and if it goes. That's all for now!"

OOC: Radio-Quebec's 24/7 is a program that is the Quebecois version of 24/7 that through use of microscopic cameras(which only the workers know) and other equipments that I do not know exactly of, shows the lesser-known side of the game, whether in players' personal lives(family, home, etc) or the game(exclusive locker room speeches and chats).

Stay classy JoeyMac37. You don't want to get 7-day ban like you did 3 weeks ago.

Lineup confirmed by Coach Aronnax. Guthrie, Soo Myeon Kim, Howe on F, while Markov and Jodoin will be in D. Browne will be starting.

I guess the plan is to just roll over those p***ies with our toughest players, before rolling a mix-up line to score. Sounds good to me, though I would rather put Turcotte to add a bit of electricity to that line.

Someone clearly did not do enough research on Guthrie. :palm:

......sucker-punching a player from Saintland

Earlier in the group stage back in WCoH XXII, Ioannes Bruccius started it, by punching Guthrie from behind when he was busy fighting Lucas Trebatius. No point arguing about it.
.....being ejected multiple times in the last tournament

Uh....Guthrie was ejected only once in the last WCoH, Dictator Iamanidiot, and even then he didn't deserve to be ejected. I lay my blame on Herbert St-Germain for that.
On the one before, he wasn't even ejected out of the game. :palm:

....even fighting one of his own teammates.

What was he on lately? I want some....

No more comment needed to explain this guy's idiocy. /thread

Jose. Not everyone is smart as you, okay :p

Third: I went back and picked highlights from a few Quebecois matches from previous World Cups to skim through, in an effort to better educate myself about the team, and what I saw was a shockingly undisciplined squad.

Undisciplined? :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:
Team Quebec was and is certainly far from being undisciplined.....We do not allow sloppy plays and we always execute our plans as it goes. In fact, Voluntary involvements in fights and other physical stuff was certainly planned ahead and therefore shouldn't be considered as such.

If an Ice Knight is judged to have acted with a level of violence above and beyond that expected in a hockey game, criminal charges will be pressed.

Um....Go ahead and arrest an Ice Knight if possible! You cannot extradite him to your country.

Also, if fighting and protecting themselves belongs in your level of violence above expected for a hockey game, watch football or baseball you p****. This is hockey, not some other sports where physical contact is frowned easily.

Regardless, calling Mr.Guthrie "a thug, a scumbag, a cheap-shot artist and an all-round pathetic excuse for an athlete" just shows how ignorant he is when it comes to Logan. These are the reasons why:

1. Guthrie rarely even attempts to be a cheapshot artist. In fact, his penalties normally are fighting majors and other accidental little ones that were obviously not intentional. Look at the list of cheapshots suspended by the QHL(for those who forgot, all cheapshots are automatically guaranteed with a suspension) and you'll see why. There's no Guthrie's name on any of the suspensions because he is not one.

2. Thug and scumbag? Lol, especially because even the Sanctii athletes(including his now-teammates Trebatius twins and on-iceopponent Ioannes Bruccius) respect him, with many saying that he is a figure to respect and admire, due to his admirable work ethics and respect to his opponents(unless one does not respect him).

3. All-around pathetic excuse for an athlete? Watch Radio-Quebec's "24/7" before saying that. You just ignored his work ethics and his devotion towards his family. You cannot judge an athlete entirely because of his on-ice life......

So, in conclusion, it is found that the writer of this letter is far too ignorant of Logan Guthrie to even let any of us side for him. highlights from a few Quebecois matches from previous editions of World Cup of Hockey =/= Accurate, entire depiction of a player in both on and off the ice.

NORTHERN SUNRISE ISLANDS
THE VAPOREONS

With a newer expansion of lands from the Sunrise, things shook a bit on the Hockey department. With a new kit tailored by Vulpine Sportif's experts, the Sunrise is once again in the ice, now known as the Vaporeons, with only one target: DOMINATION!(Of the Cup, preferably... though we wouldn't mind winning a couple of useless lands.)

Instead of going with the typical Mardi stadium, the Sunrisian national hockey team; Parc de Beart gets the opportunity of hosting the Sunrise's match. A venue at the World Cup of Hockey 22's later rounds, Parc de Beart is normally home for two teams of Beart, Ninon and Mignon Beart. The Capacity of 75,000 seems good enough for matches of the Sunrise on ice.

Official Statement from Thomas I
Archbishop of Vaugania

As all of you and the rest of the world know by now, King Paulus XV of Saintland was assassinated at the championship game of World Bowl XXII in the Free Republics. The identity of the murderer is not yet known, but we do pray that whoever is responsible for this heinous act is brought to justice and is given an appropriate punishment by the courts. And furthermore, given their appropriate punishment at the hands of God.

However, it is times like these that we can unite under God. Despite tensions between our nation and that of the Sanctii, we both believe in our Creator and we believe in his good works and his just actions. I believe God looks down upon our two respective countries with favor. It does not matter whether we leave security matters to the police or whether we wield weapons to defend us ourselves. It does not matter whether we cover our heads, or leave our scalps exposed to the sun's rays. No matter if we live in the cold north of Saintland, on the sunny beaches of Buesk, the mountains of Sorochuk, or the vast woodlands of St. John's, we are united in Christ and we are united in God. Let us take this time to remind ourselves that we are all God's children and we must care for one another according to His will.

Let us now take this opportunity to send our most sincere condolences to the nation of Saintland as they mourn the loss of their beloved monarch. And let us mourn with them as they are our brothers and sisters in Christ. We wish the best of luck to the new king, Petrus XX, eldest son of King Paulus XV. May he in all his future endeavours, personal and political, be successful. I encourage all of the Catholics in Vaugania to take a moment when saying your prayers to keep in mind King Petrus XX, his family, and the people of Saintland.

"Whether we live or die, we are the Lord's."

It was a quite night for Gregory Unalmighty, the starting right wing for the Crazy Pups. The quite didn't bother him. It was peaceful, something that the Crazy Pups have had very little of ever since they were put in the crosshairs of Gregoryisgodistan. Just in the last hour an Enemy Crusher from Gregoryisgodistan tried to attack him because of his name. Just before being crushed, he heard a pop and saw the Enemy Crusher fall to the ground. He did not stay around to see what happened to the Enemy Crusher because he ran. When he got back to the hotel, he thought, "What is in my name, if a rose was called Gregory Almighty would the Enemy Crusher not call it leader?" However, He knew that in a few hours he would be asleep dreaming of the first chance that he could score a goal in international play. The last thing that he thought he would see is another visitor.

"Good evening, Mr. Unalmighty," said a short thin woman. "You had quite a scare an hour ago, didn't you?"

Gregory replied, "How do you know about that? No one else was there."

“Then how do you think that you got away?” the woman responded.

“I don’t know,” stated Gregory. “I thought that he tripped, since everyone knows that the Enemy Crushers from Gregoryisgodistan are quite clumsy.”

“While Enemy Crushers are clumsy, he did not trip,” replied the woman. “I shot him with a sleeping dart with a gun that we nickname the “Good Night, Rifle. He will be alright and will not remember anything dealing with the incident. He will be able to play in the match tomorrow for Gregoryisgodistan.”

“So, you are a spy,” Gregory blurted out.

“No, Mr. Unalmighty, I am Dr. Emma Fitzsimmons, Head of the Department of Financial and Scientific Advancement. I am here with the Head of the Department of Foreign and Regional Affairs, Mr. Wade Wallace. We were sent by President Possible to talk to the competition officials about Gregoryisgodistan. We are here for a short trip and will be leaving right after tomorrow’s match. Mr. Wallace is meeting with the officials right now, but I thought that Gregoryisgodistan would target you first, since they have no idea that we are here and that your name openly mocks Lord Gregory Almighty. So, I followed you when you went out of the hotel today. And it is a good thing for you that I did. Now, you should get some sleep, you have a big day tomorrow. Good luck, Mr. Unalmighty. Sleep well.”

Guess who's back? After my notorious save file featuring the Hang Pning Imperials fictional expansion into the league, who introduced us to the awesomeness of players like Filipo "The Kid" Ferrara and Hinata "The Kunoichi" Suzuka, MrGamebreaker presents a new save with the World Cup of Hockey 23th edition at Saintland. And of course, I'm taking the Sunrise, baby. Let's do this.

South Rona is an invention. It's not like our world, real and possible. Plus, I think Rumba not added it to the mod.

Once again, another member of the Misters' Team is in the Sunrise Hockey League Manager cockpit. Sucks that you're not accepting suggestions, Gamebreaker. I have been playing this game as Quebec and already got four cups on top of Havl and Valanora! It's impressive how this game gets far from realism as seasons go by. I'll of course be looking for more Kunoichi action. Hinata = Goddess.

The lack of Les Frozen Guerriers really hurts this mod. Anyways, good luck on predicting the future, Breaker.

I thought we were going with a joint save this time with three teams like our save at the QHL. Well, I like to see that you are trying it out, Breaker. But you better focus on beating it after some editions. Havl is the clear winner of this tournament without any competition. Not to make fun of you, but... look at their overall, man.

The good thing is that if you succeed in one shot, you'll prove that The Misters' Team is the dominating force of SGB.

I'm impressed that you're doing a new one as soon as you finished the Imperials job. By the way, about what Tsune said. You have been predicting stuff well enough... The SHL has been talking about adding Hang Pning Imperials with some colony teams for the next expansion of the League and Suzuka could be on her way to the national team.

Aside from that, don't think that you're taking the title next war just because of your preparation with these challenges. Skye_Is_God is getting so good that he could rename himself Jerry_Is_God

World Cup of Hockey XXIII Preview

Editor's note: This article comes to us from Uniform Central webmaster Luke Paulson.

There's a lot of grandeur and hubbub surrounding the once-every-four-years World Cup of Hockey, and much of it is focused on the games, the players, and the competition. Rightfully so, I suppose. But I've always been fascinated by the minutiae of sports uniforms. Hockey, in particular, has such a rich history of uniforms, beginning with the "sweaters" that helped early teams stand out from the competition. There is a lot to write about for this latest edition of international hockey's greatest spectacle, so when The Blue Line asked me to write about Havl's latest national kit, I was all too happy to oblige.

Image

The three-time world champions are debuting a new kit that features lots of small changes that harken back to the team's original jersey (from World Cup of Hockey XIX). The return of the "Havl crest" is, in my opinion, a good sign. We've seen too many faux-back jerseys (jerseys that look like throwbacks but are entirely new) in this tournament's history. The diagonal "H-A-V-L" from the last two tournaments had its fair share of success, but I've long been a fan of the American-style crest that the team used in its first two WCoH appearances.

By removing the small blue stripes between the red and white, the new jersey really pops. I mean, just take a look. Those thin blue stripes were really distracting, especially in these days of HD televisions and 1080p streams. The updated stripes carry over to the socks, which marks the fifth different sock that the Havl squad has used in the WCoH.

Image

A big theme for Havl this year is the three star motif. As you can see above, the new crest features subtle roman numerals that represent Havl's three WCoH victories (XX, XXI, and XXII). It's a sign that the Capital City-based team is acknowledging their recent success. It's a classy touch. It's not unusual for a team to use a gaudy shoulder logo or patch to proclaim their victories, but Havl has chosen a sleek design that most viewers will probably miss while watching the games.

Image

Long-time Havl goalie Davis Rich has reason to celebrate; in the last WCoH, he won his second-consecutive MVP trophy for most valuable player in the tournament. The Capital City native has played his whole career (all 19 years of it) for the Captains, and his iconic mask has always featured the Caps secondary logo "Ernie the Ern" front and center. Rich typically uses his Capital City mask when he's in net for the national team--and why not? The Captains are "Havl's Team," after all. But this sneak peek from his mask painter, Dan Jarvis at AutoAirSpray, shows that Rich will have an all-new look for this tournament. Again, the three-star motif is present, and Jarvis painted some "ghost" roman numerals to represent Havl's World Cup victories. We'll have to wait to see the finished product, but I like what I see here.

Finally, some sad news for people who don't like "logo creep." Davis Rich has announced that he will be using Mohom goalie equipment exclusively, which means that the company's logo and wordmark will be all over his pads, sticks, and skates. It's a huge coup for the small Harleston-based equipment manufacturer. Rich has been using a mish-mash of suppliers for the last ten years--Bauer stick, Vaughn trapper and blocker, and Mohom pads. By landing arguably the biggest star in the tournament, Mohom is guaranteed prominent coverage.

Luke Paulson is the webmaster and editor of Uniform Central.

The EHL And You!

Well, more like the Elven Hockey League and what their impact will be on the Calcuttas as they prepare to undergo another attempt at becoming the world champions of ice hockey. With three titles already in the Calcuttas trophy cabinet, there is no one that can deny that they are a force in the international arena, along with Olympic gold, and consistently being in the top portion of the rankings. Being one of the few teams to have competed in every single edition of the World Cup of Hockey, there is a legacy in wearing the Calcutta uniform and a certain standard to uphold for those who get chosen to represent the team.

There was also a time when the EHL completely and totally dominated what was the Hockey Champions League (called the Champions' Hockey League by the rest of the world, why do we have to be different? -editor), the hockey equivalent to the Champions' Cup in football. However, that tournament went defunct for several years and when it was born again, the VSC decided to withdraw the EHL from the tournament as a new ranking system was being introduced. And thus the EHL itself folded for a year years before springing back up, though to domestic audiences only, with the national team turning into something more akin to a club team just to keep the chemistry among the team at the highest rate.

Yet now the league is once more back involved in the international audience and even entered the latest HCL with four entrants. More than that, the players on the national team all decided to go full in on the support for the league and signed on to a number of respective clubs. Traditional powers like Stormguard and Longview were able to attract a few big names due to their history, but you just knew that the lure of the big money of Raynor City would be enough to get a good deal of the players to go the capital and put on the Raptors sweaters. All in all though, there was a fair amount of dispersion among the better clubs with regards to the national team, with only a few oddball selections and signings to raise an eye at.

The question now is how will returning to league play affect how the team moves in the international tournament. As they are no longer a club team, their practices together have been cut short and with new stars on the rise, there could be added pressure to show just what you have to offer the national team at this critical juncture. Yet the likes of Havl, three time champions of this event as well, who are showing off their wins in a redesign of their uniform. While it is quite aesthetically pleasing, as far as a redesign can go, you have to wonder if that is just not painting a giant bulls eye on their chests, both figuratively and literally! Every shift their opponents will see those three stars and the roman numerals and be even more inspired to knock the top team off.

The Calcuttas themselves will have to navigate a semi decent group, with the likes of Vilita and Turori, as well as HopNation, who seems more than ready to go in their first game of the tournament. It will be a good measuring stick to see how fresh the players are after a grind of a league season as well as the international domestic tournament. Will the legs be dead and the chemistry broken or will we see players ready better than they have been in the past to prove once more just who is the best team in all the land when it comes to ice hockey? The next month will have all the answers, hopefully ones that the Vanorian people will love to hear.

After taking a year off from the Multiverse Stage, the Ice Bisons seek to come back into the world of hockey and strike fear into the hearts of the teams set to compete in the Twenty-Third Edition of the World Cup of Hockey.

"Given the lost of our 2013.2 season, the National Sports Council felt it best to keep our players homebound to work on the terms and conditions needed to keep our game alive in Gyatso-kai," spoke President of Hockey Operations for the National Sports Council Cheng Yukstad. "Even though our rankings in the multiverse took a substantial hit, we believe it is only a minor setback as we set out to claim the top honour in the world of Hockey."

While Head Coach Kad Skirata is set to return to lead the Ice Bison in his seventh World Cup, even more of the main corps of players have set their eyes on returning: Most noticeably, Iwai Itsuki and Jiang Tujing --- both of the Kyoshi Warriors --- have been forced out of their 2014.1 season early due to injury, with Iwai suffering a high ankle sprain and Jiang fracturing his left wrist. As a result, the unlikely pair of Kuang Deniigi of the Kyrimorut Ramikae and Hiteki Kia of the Northern BuffaloYaks has been brought to the front on the third line. Other than that, the main three lines remain the same.

Unfortunately for Shao Moon, the very first Pony to ever play on a Gyatso-kaian national team, the experiment is over: Despite a promising start, Moon was unable to bring his save percentage above 0.850, and as a result, did not receive the invitation to return for World Cup of Hockey 23. In his place, a young collegiate goaltender named Hong Makhu from the University of Adirolf has been named back up to Zhao Hotaka. While in the past, Zhao has always remained rather consistent in his playstyle, the last three games of World Cup 21 saw Zhao's save percentage drop drastically to 0.8923 from his tournament average of 0.9367.

"Havl was just a very physical team," Zhao said to ASPN at the Media Day before the National Team departed for Saintland. "Simply put. I am no Great Wall, and with all of those shots, I did my best to stop them. Hopefully this year, should we face them, I will come up with more pucks."

As has almost become expected, GyatsoAir --- in partnership with the AHL and the National Sports Council --- have further reduced the prices of airline tickets to Saintland to facilitate the spectatorship of our national team. In addition, each game the Ice Bisons play in shall be aired on the entire ASPN family of networks (ASPN Prime, ASPN2, AVS, ASPN3, UASPN): All other games shall air on the World Sports Nation and World Sports Nation PLUS, which are being made available on all television and internet-provider services at NO COST from now until the conclusion of the World Cup of Hockey.

GK – 68 – ZHAO Hotaka
Height: 188cm - Weight: 83kg – Age: 23 years old – Hand: L - Team: Republic Capitals
With the retirement of Shu Huanguo two years ago, the need for a starting goalie fell at just the right moment for Zhao Hotaka. Not only was he drafted right out of BSSU onto the Republic Capitals, where admidst the lockout, he was selected as the starting goalie for Shu's old team.

Maybe there is a bit of luck in line for this up-and-coming player.

His style of play is very reminiscent of Shu, credited with teaching Zhao back at BSSU. A mixture of the profly with more classic butterfly style thrown in, Zhao's quick reflexes prevent many a rebound from getting past him. In addition, being a full five centimetres taller than Shu, Zhao is able to cover a bit more net and keep the goals from getting past him. His original role on the Ice Bisons was to come in and save Shu, rescuing many a performance, though now, starting with the first line, it may be Zhao who will one day need saving.

LD – 32– SATO Sorua
Height: 191cm - Weight: 101kg – Age: 26 years old – Hand: R - Team: Beijing Stars

A strong defenceman who Skirata has favoured since the Third World Junior Hockey Championships, Sato Sorua is a integral piece of the Bisons' defence. Into his fifth professional career season, Sato has been enjoying recent success after a surprise trade to the Beijing Stars right before the 2013.3 Lockout; a promotion to Assistant Captain and a placement one the first defensive line to top off his sixth selection to the national team.

A strong defence player, Sato originally played the right side of the ice, however, Coach Skirata feels that a good defenceman can play both sides and as such, Sato has been switched up to test the theory. One of the greatest back-skaters in the game, he has become a regular facet of the Ice Bisons' defence.

RD – 32– Pakku ITO - ASSISTANT CAPTAIN
Height: 193cm - Weight: 108kg – Age: 34 years old – Hand: R - Team: Itakawai Lightning

The seasoned veteran of the Defensive line, Pakku Ito is returning to National Team for the seventh time, and as such, continues to bring his experience to the line; now at 34-years-of-age, he has entered what most consider the twilight of an Avatarian player's career --- most players retire around 40 --- and yet, he still possesses the vitality of a man ten years his junior.

Great on the backskate and known for perfect poke-checking skills, Ito’s greatest strength is his ability to read the ice and predict the play with an uncanny certainty. He isn’t afraid of getting rough, which with his Mandalorian background, should come at no surprise. After three-peating the Kuruk Cup and repeating the Shield Trophy, Ito has continued to prove he is simply an invaluable asset to any team he is on.

LW - 02 – Arnook ISHIDA
Height: 188cm - Weight: 93kg – Age: 24 years old – Hand: L - Team: Makapu Flames

A solid winger capable of playing both sides of the ice equally, Arnook Ishida has managed to finally find his place as a mature winger. After six years in Cotdelapoms with the Albionpool Oak Leafs, Ishida has made a triumphant return to the AHL, signing a three-year, 8 million yuan contract with his old team the Makapu Flames and in the first half of the season, has alreay taken second place in both Points and Goal categories.

Despite a lackluster performance in World Cup XX, in World Cup XXI, Ishida managed a return to form; scoring 8 goals and getting 8 assists in the 20 games of the tournament is far from impressive, but considering before the tournament he was 9-6, it is saying something about the time spent overseas. Ishida is a quick skater, known to be very physical when the game calls for it. Though his slapshot is impressive, he tends to overshoot the goal, often pulling just a centimetre to the right or left.

The star forward of the seven-time Kuruk Cup Champions, Hakoda Ishii returns to lead the Ice Bisons in yet another international tournament.

A strong centre, Ishii is able to coordinate many a great highlight goal: With tremendous vision and terrific passing skills, he is the best two-way player in Gyatso-kai. Looking to do even better this time around, you can be sure that Ishii shall light the lamp at least once every game. Having broken the Fifty International Goal stat in the final game of World Cup of Hockey XIX, Ishii has continued to strive for excellence during the off-season.

RW – 08–Wad'e TAY'HAAI
Height: 183cm - Weight: 87kg – Age: 24 years old – Hand: R - Team: Itakawai Lightning

Into his fourth professional season and sixth appearance on the National Team, Wad'e Tay'haai continues to shine on the first line. An impressive winger with a very defensively-minded style, Tay'haai saw a low scoring showing at World Cup XXI, with just two goals and two assists. However, on his return to Itakawai, he would manage his first professional 30 goal season, so the idea of the defensively-mined younggun at Itakawai may just be a thing of the past.

A very strong youthful skater, the fact that Tay’haai garnished a position on the first line is a testament to his strength. A powerful right-winger, his skill in the faceoff is impressive, having never lost a faceoff in his entire ACSA career and only twelve in his four seasons with the Itakawai Lightning.

LD – 18 – KO Piandao
Height: 188cm - Weight: 95kg – Age: 31 years old – Hand: R - Team: St-Fortunat Saints(CDP)

Incredibly accurate with his passing and known for his interception skills, Ko has seen some great development while he played in Cotdelapoms. His strength is still one of his greatest assets, an asset he is not afraid to use on the ice; known for putting more than his fair share of men into the boards, Ko garnishes at least two penalties a game for his roughness... Something he is proud of. Many analysis in Cotdelapoms feel that he is simply too good for the Saints, and yet he renewed his contract for another three years last season.

When asked to describe Ko, Coach Skirata compared him to his namesake, the dao --- or sword--- in that he teters on the edge of a finely-honed blade, and just a simple push will slice you in half: Ko is known to divide players with his impressive size and muscle pucks away from the foes before passing them off to an open player. While his shot power is weaker than most players, his accuracy is second only to seven-time All-Star Shot Contest winner Hakoda Ishii.

Height: 183cm - Weight: 88kg – Age: 34 years old – Hand: L - Team: St-Fortunat Saints(CDP)

Playing in the AHL for four seasons and then another eight in the CHL, Feng Tao has seen some success in the CHL as of late; with the trade to the St-Fortunat Saints last season, Feng has been pleased to have been re-united with Ko, whome he played with for three season at Omashu. The chemistry is still there, and the coaches of St-Fortuant have been very happy with their acquisition. Feng is known for being a 'double threat", equally able to pull back and block any pass made by the opposition, only to turn that pass around and snipe a shot into goal.

While is backskating is impressive, Feng has struggled with the switch ever since a torn Achielles tendon weakened his right ankle six seasons ago: Many blame his less-than-stellar performance in the WCoH15 on that injury and he has continued the conditioning of that ankle to increase its strength, In addition, he heavily favours the foreshot, almost never taking a backhand to the puck and nearly always shoots from the right side of the ice: Though his style is predictable, the speed and finesse he gives the shot makes the end-result unpredictable.

LW – 26 – Walon VAU
Height: 182cm - Weight: 88kg – Age: 25 years old – Hand: R - Team: Itakawai Lightning

Drafted by the Itakawai Lightning in the second round during the 2012.2 AHL Draft, Walon Vau had an incredible two seasons before the 2013.1 Lockout; having won multiple awards, Vau has proven he is much more than the collegiate background to Kal Skirata.

Given his strong backhanded shots, Vau is known for his trademark backward's skating goals at KSU; sending a puck on his left side while skating backwards at the last minute. A little childish in Skirata's opinion, but none the less, it garnishes the support of the fans who always enjoy a little showmanship. After spending the last few months working with both Tay'haai and Ishii, Vau is beginning to make improvements in his form.

After a mid-season trade to Kyrimorut two seasons ago, Hei Hayate managed to help the Ramikade advance into the Playoffs after securing a first-place position in the regular season in his first season, and then leading them to the . His natural leadership skills, combined with such a fiery charisma, makes Hei a great leader, though to Skirata, he needs a few more years experience before he gets to wear the C.

A very strong centre, much like his first-line counterpart, Hei is known for his strength at coordinating the forward line to execute many a great plays. With excellent vision and adequate stick handling, Hei has earned the respect of his team while maintaining the strength and form of players much younger than him.

Height: 194cm - Weight: 89kg – Age: 23 years old – Hand: L - Team: Montréal Cotdelapomais

(CDP)

A natural talent, Kal Skirata's skill comes as no surprise, given the history of the Skirata Clan in the Avatarian Sports. However, while the skill Skirata possesses is valued, his experience in international play is low, which is reflected in his nerves as he skates on the ice. Quick to act and slow to think, Kad'buir continues to train his son in the fine art of patience.

While originally suspected to play his first professional game in Gyatso-kai, Skirata would stun the Republics by signing a two-year contract with the Montréal Cotdelapomais, taking his amazing talent and youth to the CHL. While some back at home feel Skirata betrayed his family with the move, however, his father even came out in support of his son's decision; stating the move would introduce the younger Skirata to more styles of play and gain him 'an invaluable experience'. Nonetheless, in his very first season in the CHL, Skirata would come away with not only the Lapointe Award for the Best Rookie, he was able to take the Cotdelapomais to the Dumas Cup final in which he would face off against Shu and the Royals. A touching moment after the final game was when Shu and Skirata came together in the last line, and gave each other a solemn bow before embracing one another.

Now, into his second CHL contract, Skirata is showing no sign of slowing own, and continues to develop into a well-rounded right wing who can play both sides of the ice, as well as a player with the vision to one day be a play caller.

Some other players might need to retire first...

A impressively sized Northern Watertribesman who had grown up in the Fire Nation, Hiteki Kia was a natural choice to replace the injured Iwai Itsuki: Known for his physical play, Hiteki is not afraid of boarding whoever has the puck and getting it up ice. He has strong passing skills compared to Iwai, as well as similar speed and agility. Combined, Hiteki may just earn a more permanent place in the National line-up.

Much like Jiang Tujing, Kuang Deniigi is a very physical player with a unique skillset; great ice vision allows Kuang to see plays forming well before they commence. Add to that impressive speed for such a large player and relatively good accuracy, and you have a defensive player who can shift the opponent's momentum against them.

Having graduated from Republic City State University three seasons ago, Kuang was drafted in the third round by Kyrimorut, however, he was quickly traded to the Makapu Flames where he would play for a single season before being traded back to the Ramikade. While the nature of the flip-flop is unknown, it allowed Kuang to play under two distinct coaching styles in two distinctively different divisions. It is always best to learn to combat multiple styles, and Kuang is very knowledgable about his opponents; a valuable asset to have on the line designed to come in when the game is turning fast against your team.

Returning to the ice in World Cup XXI after a season-ending ankle injury, Ikeda Kuruk worked very hard to displace the wild stallion of Kima Yagone from the third line. However, with the young Jaster Gilamij carving an impressive record on the right side of the ice, Ikeda had to adjust to playing on the left.

A strong power forward, Ikeda is known for his smooth skating and his ability to snipe with the best in the league. Given his background with two of the most pass-obsessed teams in the league, he has gained more skill in his passing department. With a history of shooting first and asking questions later, it is the lack of league play in over a year that has Ikeda acting as a wildcard in the third line, as opposed to the rock he once was on the first. After spending a year unsigned, Ikeda reach a one-year contract with the Southern PolarLeopards, where he sits on the second line.

Having worked his way up the line in Republic City as he gained the Second Assistant Captain position following the injury of Olof Kolosji, Toru Akiak continues to better his game. However, with such developments small in contrast to those of the younger players, he has yet to shine any brighter; what he needs is a great defining moment, one in which he can show Skirata that he is meant to be a star player.

Being able to do everything well, but nothing great is something which is bothersome to many a coachers; for a player who was drafted six years ago and has been on two teams in a single year, the gift that Coach Antinanco gave him in the place of 2nd Asst. Captain was in the hopes of giving him a solid future as a Captain; after four seasons without a Captain, many on the Caps fan base want to see a new star rise from the ashes of Shu's departure.

Height: 186cm - Weight: 88kg – Age: 26 years old – Hand: L - Team: Keldabe Strills

Coming from a renowned Mandalorian Youth Hockey Development Academy in Keldabe, Jaster Gilamij played his collegiate hockey in Kibago under a student of Skiratas, Mos Shilosa. This resulted in Gilamij developing a very 'Mandalorian'-style of play; far more adept at sniping the puck from the blue line then at bringing it into the crease, Gilamij is still a little rough on the edges to take a lead position on the Bisons. Quick to draw, quick to shoot, Gilamij will one day be seen as a great player.

For now, he is average in all categories...

Here we are, on the eve of the World Cup of Hockey. It has only been a short time since our Ice Bison were last here, and that last time, we provided the eventual Champions Havl quite a hard time. Shame we didn't get to come back in the twenty-second edition, but alas, with no AHL season, it was for the best we focused on our home nations instead of the multiverse.

Looking forward to the start of Group Play, the Ice Bisons seemed to have been blessed with their selection. Having only faced two of the teams before --- Neu Engollon in World Cup XXI and Mohawk Clans in World Cup XVIII --- should prove to provide excitement to Ice Bison fans back home as well as those brave enough to travel abroad.

Matchday 1 at 32Neu Engollon
Civitate Dei Arena, Capacity: *UNKNOWN*

Playing at a football stadium should be a nice experience for the Ice Bisons as the face off against Neu Engollon Ibex. In all of their previous meetings, the Ice Bisons came out on top, first taking them on in the Group Stage of World Cup XXI and defeating them 3-nil and 2-1. While the Ibex proved to be no match for the eventual second-place team, this time they are set to face an Ice Bison team which hasn't faced a multiverse team since losing to Havl 6-4.

Matchday 2 at NRSuper-Llamaland
Royal Stadium Rink #2, Capacity: 62,383

The first of four unranked teams, the Super-Llamaland Ice Tigers are an incredibly defensively-orientated team ranked a -5.0 on the skill scale. In previous matches when facing such teams, the Ice Bisons' moderately-offensive style tends to score a minimum of three goals while opponents average 2 or less. Another outdoor game (all Saintland games are outdoor) should prove interesting for the team, and while the Ice Tigers' may not be used to the cold, many of the Ice Bisons come from Water Tribe or Southern Mandalorian heritage, and we all know how frigid it can be down South.

Matchday 3 vs 74Nassau-Hessen
Civitate Dei Arena, Capacity: *UNKNOWN*

A barely-Top Ten team, the Nassau-Hessen Eagles will be a refreshing change of pace after the Ice Tigers. Rated a -1, they are the second defensively-minded team the Ice Bisons will face as well as the second team whose uniform favours the Red/Purple colour scheme. Seeing as I hate purple, I would love to see our Ice Bisons to take this fresh-faced team and show them what experience and skill mean in the World Cup.

How a team expects to survive on the lack of skill they possess, seeing how in World Cup XXI, they won a single game and scored less than ten goals in twelve matches...

Matchday 4 at NRCrystal Empire
Via Damascus Stadium Rink #1, Capacity: 32,189

Another unranked team, Crystal Empire should be a cakewalk. Neutral in style, neutral in name, I was hard-pressed to even find a roster of theirs in the World Cup records here...

Matchday 5 vs 12Falcus
Progress Stadium, Capacity: 17,303

The second-highest ranked team the Ice Bisons will have to face, the Ice Falcons of Falcus are an odd team: With a first line whose primary goal is to confuse instead of attack, the +2.7 style team should be quite the challenge for the Ice Bisons, who tend to draw or just barely outscore the teams they have faced who are similar in style.

This may be the first game we see Zhao Hotaka pulled in favour of either of the younger keepers. Watching practice yesterday morning, it is likely Hong Makhu would be the first option to give Zhao a break. Though, I certainly wouldn't mind seeing that gorgeous young man from KSU make his first multiverse cap against the Ice Falcons at this high school stadium converted into a hockey rink.

What kind of host nation chooses a high school to host a multiverse competition? Do they not realise the sheer number of Ice Bison fans --- lovingly known as The Frozen Herd --- who would want to see this game?

Matchay 6 at 7Mohawk Clans
Apostolic Arena, Capacity: 19,302

The highest ranked team to face the Ice Bisons, the Mohaican Eagles should be the game to watch in Group 4. Ranked seventh in the world and carrying a +1 style, the Eagles will likely be a test of endurance for the Ice Bisons. In their last faceoff in World Cup XVIII, the Ice Bisons were just barely able to score a third goal in the final three minutes in the Round of Sixteen match and hold off a strong comeback from the Eagles to make it out of the Round and eventually take Third Place, topping Valanora 5-4.

Expect the formerly run-down stadium to packed to capacity and every local bar and pub filled with the Red and Gold.

Matchday 7 vs NRMiddleton Valley
Apostolic Arena, Capacity: 19,302

Returning to the Apostolic Arena, the Ice Bisons will face the Middleton Valley Crazy Pups, and a rightfully deserved name. Unranked and running a +5 style is usually absurd in the World Cup of Hockey, though it has worked in the past... for a short time. Seven games in, and it is likely the Crazy Pups will be running out of gas just waiting for a finishing blow to knock them down.

So many unranked teams... They should really look into a Baptism of Frost for these new teams...

Matchday 8 at NRTransalpine Republic
Progress Stadium, Capacity: 17,303

The last unranked team for the Ice Bisons, the Transalpine team is yet another mystery...

I am really starting to wonder if Saintland is even ready to host this tournament... Did we vote for them to host this thing?

Matchday 9 vs 37The Fair Republic
Via Damascus Stadium Rink #2, Capacity: 32,189

The final match of the Group Stage, the Ice Bisons get to face off against The Fair Republic. With no style ranking, the Ice Bisons are likely to treat this as a precursor to the World Cup proper; refine any rough patches, straighten out the lines, and shift the final pieces into place.

So it is looking like this World Cup will be quite exciting for the Ice Bisons. Perhaps we will return to glory... Or crash and burn...

"We're too incompetent to send out a roster, apparently."

"I can't believe they'd insult us! We don't have the time, that's all."

"Super-llamaland does."

"Those filthy Ice Tigers! More like Ice Failures!"

"You need to work on your Super-Llamaland jokes, but yeah, right now they're beating us in roster releases 1-0. Let's tie it up and send 'em a roster."

"Only people, though. Elves can't play the physical game, and centaurs are just plain awkward on skates."

"We'll number them in order to save trouble."

"Ok, guys. This is it," told Head Coach Today S. Hopeless to his players. "I know that we are young and inexperienced, but we are fast. We have one of the most efficient offenses to take to the ice. Now, I know that we are playing a highly-ranked team, but that should not stop us. We can play goal-for-goal with these guys. Lets try to average three a period. I know defensively, we are weak, but they say that the best defense is a good offense. And we don't have just a good offense, but a great offense.

I do not know if any of you have heard, but nations are already counting us out. Earlier today the Ice Bisons, who we will face later in this tournament, put out a statement with 'the Middleton Valley Crazy Pups, and a rightfully deserved name...will be running out of gas just waiting for a finishing blow to knock them down.' We have the endurance to win every game and now we have something to prove. We have been called out and they are certain that we cannot respond. But we will, we will shock the world this competition.

And I know that I do not have to remind you about the team from Gregoryisgodistan. They have already attacked our nation and we need to come out and make a statement to them. We need to outlast them. They have no right to be able to get away with what they do and it is our responsibility to enforce the line. They need to go home shaking their heads, but we can only do that if we start tonight. We need to come out and win. We need to score. Force the other team to make mistakes. Keep the puck possession in our favor. And most importantly stay out of the penalty box.

Now, lets go our there and make Middleton Valley proud. On three. One. Two. Three."

"I don't get hockey."

"We're up against the number seven team in the world."

"Wait, these matches are being played outside."

"Yeah. We got a lot of Dinschrians, so we should be fine."

"Gyatso-Kai doesn't know that."

"Who cares?"

"Anyway, I'm reading Hockey for Dummies."

"That's Field Hockey for Dummies."

"I also bought a hockey stick to make it look like I'm a former player."

"This is a baseball bat."

"I brought a goalie glove too."

"This is a baseball mitt."

"And a goalie mask."

"This is a catcher's mask."

"I then had the building decorated to look like a hockey rink."

"About that...some intern slipped on the icy floor and cracked his head open. His parents are suing."

"Is he dead?"

"No."

"Good, good."

"He's on life support."

"Okay."

"Maybe somebody else should manage this team..."

"No, I'll read my hockey books and I'll be fine."

"Field hockey. Also, this lineup you want to send to the head coach has seven players. That's not a valid hockey lineup."

"Fine, take out the goalie."

"Which one?"

Soviet Canuckistan Roster for WCOH 23

Jersey:Image

Background: Hockey is a key element of Canuckistani culture. During the long, cold winters, hockey was often the only way for people to socialize. Arenas and Backyard Rinks are flooded every year for the 30 million organized and recreational hockey players in Soviet Canuckistan. In 1955, the Soviet Canuckistan National Hockey team was founded to bring the best of Soviet Canuckistan's hockey players to the world. This year's team is fast and agile and very rarely incurs penalties, just like the style of hockey in Soviet Canuckistan.

Roster:

RW- #3 Stephan Polomaniuk
Team:Moscawa Beavers
Age:24
Background:Born in the small town of Skabank, Soviet Canuckistan, Stephan became talented at hockey at a young age, at the age of 16, he was drafted into the Second Division of Soviet Canuckistani hockey, a first in Soviet Canuckistan as he was the youngest hockey pro ever there. He quickly began to shine, racking up an impressive 122 points in 75 games. At 17, he was moved up into the First Division where he continues to amaze, with his last season producing 102 points in 75 games.

RW-#82 Sgt. Andrei Petrovski
Team:Red Army Moscawa
Age:26
Background:Born into an army family, Andrei was used to playing many styles of hockey due to moving around a lot. Whether it was the rough play of the Quebexicans or the agile play of the West, he picked it up quickly and combined the styles to suit his needs. After joining the army at 18, he joined the Red Army team and in his first season racked up 77 points in 55 games. He continues to combine his finesse and physical play and got 93 points in 74 games last season.

RW-#43 Anthony Dubruch
Team:Moronto Spitfires
Age:22
Background:A fast player, Anthony has continued to defy the experts. Diagnosed with polio as a child, for years he had to walk with a knee brace and thought he could never play hockey again. However, defying the odds, at the age of 15, he was accepted to the prestigious St.Mark's hockey academy and his play excelled from there. However, in his rookie year, he was involved in a car crash, breaking his right femur, after months of recovery, he came back in the ice and finished his rookie year with 10 points in 3 games. This last season, he got 89 points in 75 games.

RW-#31 Julien LaTrappe
Team:Cowgary Cowboys
Age:28
Background: Born in Laclave, Soviet Canuckistan, Julien has always been under the hockey radar. Not even playing high-level hockey for most of this childhood, at the age of 17, he excelled and was drafted into a Second Division team. From there he stayed a fourth-liner but in his sixth season, defied predictions and began to become a point-a-game player and was quickly introduced to the elite play of the First Division at the ripe age of 24, a late start for many First Division player. Last year, with the Cowboys, he acquired 85 points in 75 games.

LW-#7 Koos van Key
Team:Iqualuit Fighting Narwhals
Age:34
Background:Born to a farm family, hockey was the second biggest activity after harvesting in his tiny community. He quickly outpaced the skill of the rural leagues and at the age of 12 had to move to the large city of Deadmonton to continue his quest for hockey glory. After getting out of high school, he played for a college team in Moscawa before at the age of 22, was drafted to the Fighting Narwhals. As one of the veterans on the team, he'll lead the young players to the international stage.

LW-#13 Ian Ioeusci
Team:Potcouver Pirates
Age:20
Background:Born to the family of one of the founders of the largest insurance company in Soviet Canuckistan, Ian always could have the best hockey equipment. In only his second year of pro hockey, Ian was chosen to help represent Soviet Canuckistan on the world stage, one of the youngest ever to represent SC in hockey.Playing for the Potcouver Pirates in his rookie year, he excelled, marking 100 points in 75 games.

LW-#94 Paul Farnsworth
Team:Deadmonton Zombies
Age:25
Background:Also an accomplished baseball player, Paul is an all-around athlete. Born into a sport-loving family, Paul was introduced to many sports at a young age and excelled at most of them. An accomplished hockey player, last season he got 90 points in 72 games.

LW-#86 Corey Smith
Team:Qualifax Whalers
Age:28
Background:Born into a family of fishermen, Corey hardly had anytime for hockey. However, in the time he did have he excelled and as soon as he turn 18, he quit the family business and began to play hockey. He rose throughout the ranks, quickly becoming a first line player for the Whalers. Last season, he scored 82 points in 67 games.

C-#28 Andrew Pollock
Team:St. Beaversburg Rougnecks
Age:30
Background:One of Soviet Canuckistan's greatest stars, Andrew will be someone to watch. After a stellar year in 2009-2010, setting an SCPHL scoring record with 142 points in 75 games, he's been propelled to stardom. With numerous endorsement deals, he's a household name in Soviet Canuckistan. Last season he scored 135 points in 74 games, making it one of his best seasons to date.

C-#46 Vitali Peunov
Team:Moscawa Beavers
Age:23
Background:An excellent all-around center. Vitali plays good ofensively and almost as well defensively. One of the nation's best players he achieved a stellar 122 points in 75 games last season.

C-#23 Vyecheslav Mistrenko
Team:St.Beaversburg Roughnecks
Age:29
Background:Even though he's on the third line, he's a force to be reckoned with. With a play style similar to that of his teammate Andrew Pollock, he's a scoring machine. Last year, he scored 58 times, making him one of only 12 Canuckistanis to score more than 50 goals in a season and the only one to do it twice in a row.

C-#11 Heinz Kampf
Team:Qualifax Whalers
Age:27
Background:From a poor immigrant family, Heinz overcame poverty to become famous. Living in the poor village of Hiblini, there was only one skating rink in the town and due to being bullied, he often hardly got any time on the arena, however his father made a small one where his practiced his skills to become one of Soviet Canuckistan's best. In his past season, he got 92 points in 74 games, a true accomplishment for a child of poverty.

RD-#56 Alessandro Virilini
Team:Cowgary Cowboys
Age:21
Background:A young star in Canuckistani hockey, with his physical style of play, has earned him the nickname "The Bulldozer." Often compared to Andrew Pollock, and considered his equivalent in defence, this rookie has skill beyond his age. With an impressive 56 assists last year and 74 points, he'll be someone to watch.

RD-#90 Alexander Langdon
Team:Tunguska Patriots
Age:19
Background:The youngest on the team, this kid has something to prove. A tank on the ice, heavy but fast, his physical style of play is unparalleled. In 75 games, he managed to assist 52 goals and scored 10 for a total of 62 points.

RD-#14 Sergei Plovin
Team:HC Chevo
Age:32
Background: Born in the mountains of Canuckistan, Sergei learned about the winter sports at a young age. By the age of 10, he was playing teenagers in organized hockey and excelled. He was drafted first overall by HC Chevo at the age of 18 and has been there ever since. At 30, he's one of the older members and a veteran for the defencemen.

LD-#21 Andre Plamondon-Piquette
Team:Duntreal Revolution(Soviet Quebexico)
Age:26
Background:The only player to play on a Quebexican team, he's a rarity on the team. Despite the war which tore through his homeland, he's in top shape for the cup. With fast reflexes, he can take any situation and make it to his advantage with his speed. A good helper for the team's scorers, he got 55 assists in 75 games last year.

LD-#66 Pieter Sijeppe
Team:Potcouver Pirates
Age:24
Background: A young player from Potcouver, Pieter is for sure a talented player. His quick acceleration help him get back to the point quickly after scoring chances so to not put his team in jeopardy. Last year, with the Pirates, he racked up and impressive 52 assists in only 65 games.

LD-#77 Sven Persson
Team:Camelton Sand Devils(Field Hockey)
Age:23
Background:Playing out of the hot desert city of Camelton, Sven's best sport isn't ice hockey. Growing up for most of his childhood playing field hockey, his field hockey coach showed him ice hockey. After lacing up a pair of skates, he took to the ice easily and progressed to the point where he now represents Soviet Canuckistan on the international stage.

G-#1 Kyle Prefontaine
Team:Iqualuit Fighting Narwhals
Age:21
Background:From a hockey playing family, Prefontaine followed in his father's footsteps to glory. His butterfly style of play is one of the best in Soviet Canuckistan and his blocker hand unparalleled. With a GAA of only 1.67 in 75 games last season with 63 wins, this will be one of the goalies to watch.

G-#32 Viktor Albanski
Team:Esov Thunder
Age:19
Background: Following Oleg Sybanski's retirement from hockey, Albanski was ready to take his place as the only newcomer to the national team. With his last season's GAA of 1.97 and with 58 wins, Albanski brings more youth to a very youthful WCOH 19 team.

Head Coach:Vanier Oloski
Team:Moscawa Beavers
Background: A celebrity and the best known Canuckistani hockey player. He holds 12 records in Canuckistani hockey such as most goals scored ever(910) and most points in a season(172). He's now a hockey commentator and of course the head coach for the Soviet Canuckistan national team.

Assistant Coach:George Kino
Team:St. Beaversburg Roughnecks

Assistant Coach:John Smith

Gregoryisgodistan plays to scoreless draw in blizzard

In a game that coach Horse Beater LAL9120 called "an utter farce," Gregoryisgodistan played Arkiasis to a scoreless draw in a raging blizzard, in a game that was inexplicably played outside. The rink at Royal Stadium was completely covered in several inches of snow, and in spite of efforts by the grounds crew to shovel it off, it kept falling very, very fast. It was a complete blizzard. Both teams struggled to get the puck to move and the entire 60 minutes was spent with both teams just trying to hit the puck, then it rolled a few feet, and then it stopped. Additionally, many players were tumbling to the ground after unsuccessfully trying to skate on the snow. With 2:03 left in the first period, Enemy Crusher Quarreltine Thomas tripped and fell on top of referee Julius Ioannes of Saintland. However, Ioannes had done nothing to merit being crushed, so Enemy Crusher Quarreltine Thomas just rolled off of him onto another snow bank. The official was fine, just a little bit shocked by the whole ordeal. Sanctii police did not arrest the enemy crusher, as they recognized that the near-crushing was completely accidental and there was no intent to cause any harm.

Finally, the whistle blew to end the first period. The Zamboni came onto the ice, but unfortunately got stuck in the snow. The game had to be delayed for 45 minutes while a crane was summoned to lift the Zamboni off the ice, by which time several more inches of snow had fallen in one of the biggest blizzards to hit Saintland in recent memory. At that point, Gregoryisgodistan captain Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Harry Rupertson informed Ioannes that the team would be playing the remainder of the game under protest, believing the rink to be unplayable. By rule, Ioannes summoned Arkiasis captain Brent Resnick to inform him of the situation. At that point, Resnick informed Ioannes that he too believed the rink was unplayable, and Arkiasis would also be playing the remainder of the game under protest. This was an unprecedented situation - never before in the history of hockey had both teams asked to play the same match under protest. Ioannes consulted with the chief of officiating, who ruled that the two protests cancelled each other out and thus neither one was valid. Both captains lodged additional protests against this ruling, but they were both nullified for the same reason. This repeated a few more times before they gave up.

At this point, the second period started, Ioannes dropped the puck for the face off, but it got stuck in the snow. Neither center could find the puck - it appeared to be buried. Finally, after three minutes, Joseph Campbell dug out the puck and attempted to pass it. It went all of three inches. The remainder of the second period proceeded the same way, with neither team managing to do much of anything. Boos reigned down from the fans in the stadium, who could not believe what was unfolding.

At the start of the third period, Lord Almighty Gregory placed an international phone call to the officials' locker room informing them that he believed King Petrus XX had instructed the grounds crew to do a lackluster job clearing the rink in order to force the Ice Slaves into a scoreless draw against a much weaker team. However, the officials simply hung up the phone. Nothing really happened in the third period other than players getting stuck in the snow and toppling over each other. It was a miracle the enemy crushers didn't accidentally crush anyone. And in this case, it really would have been accidental. It is hard to maneuver in deep snow, especially when you weigh 500 pounds and are wearing hockey skates. Eventually, the final whistle blew.

After the game, Lord Almighty Gregory released a statement. "It is obvious that King Petrus XX instructed the grounds crew not to clear the snow. It is either that or severe incompetence, but since the rink was fine for the other two games, and Rink 2 was fine for all three games, I highly doubt that. Rather, I think this was a conspiracy against Gregoryisgodistan to force us to play to a scoreless draw against a weaker team. I call for King Petrus XX to be immediately executed for match fixing, a crime which is punishable by death in Gregoryisgodistan. I also call for his family to be executed per Gregoryisgodistani law. Finally, I appeal to the Hockey Federation of the Multiverse to do the right thing and order this match replayed from the beginning, and ban Saintland from hosting any future tournaments. This farce must not happen again. Death to Saintland! Death to King Petrus XX! We killed King Paulus XV in December! Do not believe the Sanctii lies! Petrus will be next!"

Traveler Blog,
by Christina McKenzie

Like many Cassadagans, I attended the World Bowl final between the Dagans and the team from West Guiana. In fact, I went to some other games too, and had a great time at them. If I were to recall a favorite moment, other then watching the team celebrate with the coveted World Bowl Trophy, it would have had to have been the win over Allamunnic States. What happened there was truly special, though I have to admit that I didn’t know my history of the Regulars as well as I probably should have. I told my kids before the game that this was the kind of battle I grew up with. Back then, the nation of Saintland or Free Republic had not yet challenged the international world, and we enjoyed games against the Allamunnic States. I told them what I knew about the opponent, and afterwards they saw what I meant. It was all class for someone like Kaitlyn Rinaldi to give a game ball to their legendary coach especially when you consider that they lost the game in a heartbreaking fashion. My time in the Free Republics was enjoyable during that trip, they didn’t seem to mind too much that I was from Cassadaigua.

After that game, I went to Concord Heights to attend the World Cup 67 final game. It was awesome, and I told my kids then to just sit back and enjoy watching two of the greatest nations ever to play soccer, even though titles are few and far between them when you consider the amount of time that each has actually made a championship game. We were neutral at the start, but as the game went on, we seemed to catch the fever of the Rushmori nation that was trying to win their first title, and able to do so. I hope that fans from other nations that attended this game were able to enjoy the game as much as we were able to enjoy our first trip to the Free Republics.

The second time to the Free Republics, for the title game, wasn’t as enjoyable. That of course, had nothing to do with the game. The game, was amazing. Jessica Minor fever is really sweeping through Cassadaigua right now as the nation has been searching for a sports star to be super proud of once again. The soccer team hasn’t provided that legendary type player, though we realize they have a mountain to climb again, and the baseball team disgraced the nation with their actions in World Baseball Classic 27. Players we thought were are heroes betrayed us all. The basketball team could have been the one to pick up the pace, but it was Ashley Stokes who was the signature player of that team, and sadly we know how that turned out. It was also pretty disheartening to know that even when she was alive that she did indeed participate in the rape of Seth Johnson. None of the other basketball players really resonate with nation, in my opinion. This is why Jessica Minor really seems to be the true hero right now. I know our defense, and in particular, our secondary, had a lot to do with this win, but don’t short-change Jessica who moved the offense very well, allowing us to put a lot of points on the board over the course of the competition. She took over the starting job in World Bowl 21, and led us to the runner up position on what some would call a cinderella run, and then of course this World Bowl 22 title. Best of all, she has no baggage that surrounds her. There are no accusations of criminal activity that surround her, she went to college and graduated, and worked hard to become the quarterback she is today. While her and her teammates were celebrating, we did so in our hotel with our Cassadagan fans. That part wasn’t the problem.

Trying to get back to Cassadaigua? Well, that was a nightmare. We arrived at the airport to take our flight back home, and were told that everyone with a Cassadagan passport was going to be thoroughly searched before they were allowed to leave the country. As everyone knows by now, the King of Saintland was assassinated in the Free Republics, and I empathize with the tragedy that it is, and I do hope that the killer is found soon and brought to justice, it didn’t mean that Cassadagans needed to be treated like criminals in the airport for our flight back home. We were there to watch a football game, and watch our national heroes represent the nation out there in an event that their nation was hosting. It is not my fault, or the fault of other Cassadagans, that stadium security was so lax that someone could go up to an open window of a private suite (as has been reported), kill a national leader, and then get away scot-free. How did security not notice that something had happened and at least get this individual? At any rate, what went on in the airport was profiling at its best. Fans from West Guiana seemed to just get through security at a normal level, while we were put aside. Every bag me and family owned was opened, every article of clothing taken out and laid flat to make sure there was nothing hiding in it, and the contents of the bags handled with little care. An autographed Jessica Minor football was tossed back in my duffle bag as if it were an old pair of socks. Even the kids weren’t spared, and my daughter told me that it was one of the scariest things she ever went through and never wants to take an airplane again. Even that wasn’t enough, as once on the plane, Free Republics security came aboard and took aside a younger woman to search her more, then allowed her back on after two minutes while they laughed hysterically. Many of us think that they were just being perverted at that point. Since Cassadaigua and Saintland do not get along all that well, we became targets. It’s too bad they were so oblivious to taking proper security measures at the game, because if they did, King Paulus XX would still be with us today. There are rumors out there that Free Republics wants to host World Cup 68. Well, if they do, they have a lot to take care of in-house first.

That aside, we had planned on going to Saintland for the hockey game against Valanora, but we cancelled. After what happened in the Free Republics, surely we would be treated like criminals there as well. For anyone that did not go to the World Bowl final, and is thinking about going to a hockey game, please heed this warning. Chances are your Cassadagan passport will lead to more profiling.
