Smyslova Start The Season With Offensive Fireworks
Konychev: Definite Room For Improvement

Smyslova Open In Style In Front Of Sold-Out Home Crowd
Smyslova Virmest 8 – 1 Central Dtakwubu Crowns
With the Polezapu Pochtov packed to the rafters with fans eager to see their favourites dismantle all opposition, Milos Moskvin gave up only two hits in seven innings and Gregor Talietzin clubbed the team's first home run at the top of the fifth to see Smyslova cruise to victory. Despite scoring first, Sammy Uanipa's double allowing Willem Ausschenschweber-Tunko to sprint home, the Crowns looked lost in the face of Moskvin's superlative pitching and some near-faultless defense from the rest of the team.

Pirates Prevail In "Ridiculous" Eighteen-Run Game
Port Tradail Pirates 11 – 7 Smyslova Virmest
Fans were expecting high scores with both teams clearly geared for maximum offense, and neither side let anybody down. Smyslova's slow start was at least partly to blame for the defeat, however – while Rudy Bray kept them off the scoreboard, Port Tradail rushed out to a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth and Smyslova were stuck futilely playing catch-up. Rinus de Keizer's triple in the final inning made the score look slightly more respectable and Peter van Alten was flawless coming in for the closing innings, but those were faint silver linings at best.

Smyslova Remain Slow Starters, Seize Victory Right At The Death
Moon Village Rivermen 2 – 4 Smyslova Virmest
The continued inability to score in the first few innings is becoming a cause for concern, but the Lzher men in the roster overcame their disgust of playing against ponies to claw back a victory that looked impossible for much of the game. Slavomir Zyuzin and Tullius Labicanus III were almost perfect in their first appearances, combining for four innings and only giving up a single hit between them, and the offense, led by the three-for-four Ladislav Akhmetov, just about managed to get it done. Particular praise goes to Tomas Bezell, who read the situation smartly and got himself into position for the tying run by stealing third.

Sweep This Week for Redbirds
After Lackluster Start, Cardinals Jumps to Third

SPORTS: The City of Unolia Cardinals finally had it's boom week after a disappointing first part of the season. After dramatically losing his first opportunity as an international pitcher, righty Adam Rutzia pitched again for an impressive seven innings before finally tapping out and allowing Jack Sanda to pick up his first save of the season and to give Rutzia his first win against the Pine Creek Seals. The winning RBI in that game came from short stop Jin Moon-uk, who was able to drive home the slow Earl Abbott with a to-the-warning track hit.

Errors of the game against the Seals came from Abbott, who fumbled a ball which allowed a run in the third and designated hitter Nathan Danzu, who forgot to touch second after a three run home run which invalidated the entire home run. He was reportedly fined 1,000 USD for his mistake.

The Pine Creek Seals started off the season well, going 4-2 in their first six games, with their only losses coming by a single run. It was an impressive start to the season and the pitching allowed just 22 runs, while the offense scored 31. The Seals look forward to future outings, and hope to bring home some hardware for Zhenovia.

Pirates off to Great Start; Walker 2-0

PORT TRADAIL -- The Pirates are now sitting in 2nd in the Blue Conference, only behind Smyslova Virmest, who the Pirates beat 11-7 with Mr. Bray on the mound. On offense, the bats have been on fire, especially for Terrence Alting, who has 5 HR in what has only been 6 games. However, some people have been saying recently that Gwrtheyrn Roig has been playing poorly, and that he should be benched for Zhivko Perry. When asked about this, he responded, "I am just focusing on bringing my game back up to the level where it should be". It is not expected for Mr. Roig to be benched so early in the season, but 3 errors already is not what management is looking for in any player, much less a starting player.

This week in SWN

By Lyle Smith

Well, let's take a look at the advanced stats for every player this week. We went 3-3, scoring 40 but allowing 38. That's 6.7 runs per game to about 6.3 allowed each game.

Ick. This is a very high-scoring league. Castlefield JTMBA and Twin Brooks are the only nations with less than 3.5 runs scored per game. Wow.

So, on to pitching stats:

1. Brady Willis: 1-1, 12 IP, 10 ER, 9 K/2 BB: gave up seven runs to Euroslavia but did better in a 5-3 Sangti win.
2. Ryan Billings: 1-0, 8 IP, 4 ER, 6 K/4 BB: Stayed in a bit long but gutted out a win at home against Castlefield.
3. Alex Barron: 4.2 IP, 14 ER, 3 K/5 BB: Youch. Sova Empire's team whipped us 14-8, and here's our prime suspect.
4. Perry Reynolds: 9 IP, 2 ER, 7 K/1 BB: Injury delayed his start to MD 6, where he was effective against the Cubs.
5. Bryan Morretini: 3.2 IP, 4 ER, 2 K/5 BB: Ineffective against Tohoko.

BULLPEN

Ron Jordan: 6 IP, 4 ER, 3 K/0 BB: Had a lot of mopping up to do, didn't do badly.
Kyle Smith: DNP
Carson Crier: 0.2 IP, 0 ER, 2 K/0 BB: Only pitched two-thirds of an inning.
Nick Young: DNP
Ryan Christopher: 3 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 2 K/0 BB: Yay, no walks!
Rob Roberson: 3 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 4 K/1 BB: Not bad.
Chris Parker: 5 IP, 3 SV/3 ATM, 0 ER: Very good effort from Parker.

OrangeWave Set A Precedence For The Future Of Vettrera
The VTR Survey
Sandra Westing

Vettrera's joining of the NSBaseball League was mixed with a mixed, if not confused response. As it stands now, the extent of Vettreran Baseball lies in its protectorates. The subnations of Calvarie and Oakbrook have a combined Protectorate Baseball League that stands at 20 teams. Vettrera's involvement in the league would be the first step in a campaign by the Vettrera Sporting Commision (under the PUSH initiative) to establish 10 teams in the mainland of Vettrera. Attendance & Viewership would be the main measures used to determine if this venture would be a necessary one.

As it stands now, all VCOW games are getting good viewership across the nation, as over 4 million people have tuned in to watch each game. Furthermore, attendance to the games has been equally successful as the games average 77% capacity. VSA board member Beatrice Parker responded positively to the new revelations stating: "As the saying goes, build it and they will come. I'm glad that people are finally beginning to realize that, and that PUSH is back to full-funding. So enough we should be profiting from economic growth, tax revenue, and tourism increases that will offset the costs of building and maintaining these programs"

So what is wrong with this team?
-An opinion for Ko-orenite Sports Network, by Anastasiya Kovalevskaya

In between the preliminaries for the international football leagues, and over the debate on the defunct NS Football League, and with the Rugby World Cup around the corner, one could forget that Ko-oren's second favorite sport - baseball - has something interesting going on too. Forget your local teams, this is about Ko-oren's team that is not the national team: the Capitals, playing in the Blue Conference of the NS Baseball League. Not much coverage about this team, but the players on this team might be the future stars of the domestic league, or the pinch hitters and ace pitchers of the national team for WBC 33 or around that tournament.

This team shows pretty accurately who plays baseball in Ko-oren: rugby is a southern French-Portuguese sport, football is nationwide, but more of a northern English-Dutch sport, and baseball takes plays, much like football, throughout the country, but with a special interest for the Japanese speaking players from the northeast and eastern parts of Ko-oren. This team, with 10 Japanophone players (it's very important to discern Japanese from Japanophone! These players are all Japanese speaking, but just as ethnically Ko-orenite as the Icelandophones!), also has some Anglophone, Mongolophone and Batavophone influences, but the Japanophones should carry this team.

Now part of the problem - dead last in the Blue Conference - might be that this team has never played together before. Pulled from different youth teams - the NS Baseball League project might be a cause for the KBL's minor leagues imploding - the players have not played together for more than the 15 games in the NSBL. Out of these 15, the team has won 5 (so it is not quite as bad as the Red Conference's last placed team, which has 2 wins out of 15) so there will be some improvement needed to get up. The problem is both allowing runs as well as not forcing runs: with 55 runs, the Capitals are the least scoring team, and with 84 allowed, only the Cardinals come close. But with some days of training could get the 'we don't know each other' problem under control, and we should see a decent Capitals team next season.

But then you would forget that the Capitals are a feeder team. The players are never expected to stay on this team for longer than 5 years, and this might contribute to a consistent problem, be it this season, the next, or the one in 15 years. Players disappear from the team, to reappear in the KBL and the national team.

Another issue is the lack of attention for this team. It was worse when they were in the different Ko-orenite minor leagues, so at least our prime talents are together, but the problem remains that, well, the fans are not really showing up for Capitals games. Rather, Ko-oren City inhabitants, where the Capitals play, choose to keep going to their Admirals and Generals games (and who would blame them? Both are playoff teams in the Northwestern Conference). An option would be to move the Capitals to another city, such as Tangku which has two KBL teams (Originals and Cowboys), which are both fairly good teams, but not to the extent of Ko-oren City's Admirals and Generals. Or to Sraltlur, Enkl or Kolkath, the three cities that together make up the Southern Othushun Metro Area - the only problem being that this area already has three teams in the KBL. Then maybe Branvun, who just have the Hounds, not exactly a stellar Southeastern Conference team. But Branvun is already not one of the larger cities of the country. Actually, a good option is to move the Capitals to Viltsr, Esthauan, or one of the other cities in that area: fairly large cities, not central in the country, but hey, you can go anywhere from anywhere within 24 hours. And trains run on time (and on rails), so no worries of missing the game for those Capitals fans from outside the states of Rabth and Jeknolr. The Capitals would have to be renamed: Ko-oren City is the capital. A Capitals team in not the capital is a bit weird.

And with that, we have seen two big problems, of which one persistent, that say something about our team's problems. Ours, yes, because this is a national team, and you'll cheer for them, as a nation, when these guys play for the national team. So get out there and see them while you can, in the Capital!

Twin Brooks Dodgers Team Headquarters

Mark Patino, the team owner and general manager, sat in his office reading the paper. The news was not looking good for his team. Not only were the Dodger only 6-9 so far in the NS Baseball League, but manager Luke Gerstle just received a five game suspension from the league for an outburst he had during the last game, a 2-1 loss Port Tradail Pirates that ended in controversial fashion. And as if that wasn't enough, the media had gotten wind of the organizations financial struggles. Patino had thought the move to play in the NS Baseball League along with the Estope Baseball Association would be beneficial for the club. Instead it resulted in him having to pay higher salaries for the players and coaches, less attendance in the stadium and a lower quality product on the field. Playing two leagues was getting to much for some of the players because, even though they were played in two different seasons, the long travel time and lack of an off season just wore them out. The fans, who once rallied around the idea of their team representing Estope on the world stage, now were embarrassed by the results. Things had to turn around, and fast, or else all hell could break loose. In all of his 40 years involved in baseball, Patino had yet to face such a difficult task. He had no idea what steps to take and so he had to call in some help. Patino decided to resign as general manager and hand over duties to a younger Will Frankson who was more up to date on the latest baseball trends. Now the fate of the Twin Brooks Dodgers were in the hands of an unexperienced Frankson. His task was simple, turn around the organization immediately. Patino gave him the full reigns to do whatever he felt needed to get done to turn Twin Brooks back into champions.
