Southwest Nikcoro Kingfishers Roster

Postby Super-Llamaland » Fri Dec 27, 2013 6:15 pm

Southwest Nikcoro Kingfishers

Team Colors: Red and Blue and White

Team History: Founded in 1983, the Southwest Nikcoro Kingfishers were created to play in the independent Contreras Baseball League, featuring six different teams from the Nikcoro region: Southwest Nikcoro, Nikcoro, North Nikcoro, Fisher's Port, East Mendel, and Southern Port. Unfortunately for the CBL, the team's proximity to each other caused extreme indecision and led to extreme lowering of ticket prices. In 1992, after complying a 224-316 record over nine seasons, Deric Balfour, the savvy owner, exited the league before the league could put up enough guidelines to prevent exactly that.

The team then lapsed into a barnstorming phase under romantic and lax manager Dorian White. Over forty-seven games from 1993-1999, then team went 24-23 before Balfour fired White. Soon, the team had converted into a team in the Southern Baseball League and complied a .640 winning percentage until 2013.

With that being said, rosters!

Pine Creek Seals
Nation: Republic of Zhenovia
Nickname: Pine Creek Seals
Colors: Light Blue and Navy Blue

If my opponent RP's first, they may...

Make up my lineup Y/N: You can use some of the subs in the lineup if you want.
Choose my runscorers Y/N: Yes
Follow my rotation Y/N: Yes
RP Injuries to my players Y/N: Only minor ones. Nothing ridiculous and don't go overboard with the quantity of injuries.
Godmod Injuries to my players Y/N: No
Godmod other things Y/N: Sure. No ridiculous fights, but there can be somebody who rushes the pitcher's mound or something, which would incite a brawl.
DH At Home Yes

Coaching Staff
Head Coach: Don Mehnjo (43) Played baseball in college as a shortstop before moving onto coaching. He is a legendary coach at a young age, and is a very wise man. One of the best in the business at player development and recruitment.
Hitting Coach: Ted Stuthma (43) Great at working with young players and another great recruiter. He is one of the nicest people you’ll meet and is loved by his players. However, he can be tough when needed.
Pitching Coach: Ted Padgant (36) Brief professional career as a left-handed pitcher before throwing out his arm. He is brilliant and is great at developing young pitchers.
Bench Coach: Bret Rossagro (32) Former player, but his size prevented him from doing much. He is very versatile but is best at working with first basemen and outfielders, as he was a left-handed thrower and played those positions back in the day.
Bullpen Coach: #18 Freyr Fyenaj (R) (28) He had a lot of potential as a pitcher until his career was cut short. His history of minor injuries sparked an interest in kinesiology, and thus, he can double as a trainer. Because of Freyr, the Seals bullpen is one of the healthiest in the league.
First Base Coach: Rob Schaenohe (36) A former baseball player, his size obstructed his path to professional baseball, but his determination led the way towards a coaching job.[/b]
Third Base Coach: Asher Lytel (28) A two-sport athlete in high school and college, he accepted a coaching job with the Seals and has a rather lax nature, but can be hard-nosed when necessary.
Strength and Conditioning Coach: Ervin Maekue (50) Don’t let his age fool you. This man is and keeps the players in amazing shape. He is tough as nails when he needs to be but is always encouraging.
Trainer: Vida Floddy (32) A very interesting man, he is known for the way he teases the athletes as he treats them. However, he has a kind heart and is incredible at his job.
Bullpen Catcher: Percy Terriante (65) Surprisingly still going at age 65, he’s a legend. He’s one of the best possible mentors for the youngsters. He’s very witty, and never is there a dull moment with Percy.

Lineup w/ DH (Bats/Throws)
1.) #10 Ned Ammott SS (S/R) (18):One of the best all around players. Nothing gets by him at shortstop, and he can hit as well as anybody. Speedster on the basepaths. He’s the definition of a five tool player.
2.) #4, Jed Mahone, 2B (L/R) (20): Scrappy hitter, and can surprise you with a couple of home runs from time to time. Great defensively too. Rarely strikes out. One of the nicest guys you’ll meet. A natural introvert, he comes alive on the baseball field.
3.):#28 Sal Amaya, C (L/R) (19): Dangerous power and ridiculously good behind the dish. Almost impossible to steal against.
4.) #14, Troy Ehntronas, RF (R/R) (21): A great hitter, but is in right because of the defensive abilities of Amaya. He does just fine in the outfield, and can play well anywhere on the diamond, including pitcher. A great guy, and an incredible leader.
5.) #5 Gale Texuenet, DH (R/R) (18): Another guy that can catch, but his recent injury has relegated him to DH while he recovers. Also a good outfielder with a cannon.
6.) #41 Micah Linhkantas, 1B (R/R) (19) Good power at the plate and incredible defensive prowess at first base. Many players have bought his dinners because of how many errors he’s saved.
7.) #19 Matt Glike, 3B (R/R) (21) Good defender, and a decent hitter. Well liked by his teammates.
8.) #7 Rich Schmugh, LF (R/R) (29) A good hitter, decent defender, and a real goofball. Keeps everybody on their toes.
9.) #22 Casey Zewisz, CF (R/R) (17) Extremely hard working and still developing as a ballplayer. The only that could get in the way is his size.

Lineup w/o DH (Bats/Throws)
1.) #10 Ned Ammott SS (S/R)
2.) #4 Jed Mahone 2B (L/R)
3.) #28 Sam Amaya, C (L/R)
4.) #14 Troy Ehntronas, LF (R/R)
5.) #5 Gale Texuenet, RF (R/R)
6.) #41 Micah Linhkantas, 1B (R/R)
7.) #19 Matt Glike, 3B (R/R)
8.) #22 Casey Zewisz, CF (R/R)
9.) (pitcher)

Bench
C: #22 Tom Ambawnt (21) (R/R) Rather loud and a bit odd. He rarely allows wild pitches or past balls by him. He has a decent amount of power.
2B/SS #27 Joel Hause (21) (R/R) Voted as the kindest guy on the team, he’s often seen volunteering with with the youth of the nation. He’s a great guy with a heart for service. A good baseball player too.
IF: #35 Jay Nagy (24) (R/R) Quiet individual but is a stud on defense and has a knack for getting on base in a pinch
OF: Josiah Laeng (19) (R/R) Sometimes has no limits with his rather annoying ways, he can really get in the heads of his opponents with his heckling. Leads the league in hit by pitches.
OF: #7 Cole Musah (R/R): Good defensively, and a bit undersized, he still has quite a bit of power. This guy is an oddball.
OF/PR: #44 Rudy Maxwell (R/R): Not much of a hitter or defender, this guy can flat out fly. Almost solely used as a pinch runner. Infrequent at bats. When he does hit, he’ll often drag bunt, sometimes even beating it out when the defense knows its coming. He does make use of the slash when the third basemen creeps too far in.

Rotation (Throws)
SP #29 Ken Kaumfima (L) (20) He has really added some velocity to his fastball lately, and still locates extremely well, and has good off speed stuff. A quiet leader.
SP #15 Hugh Destinus (R) (19) This fireballer has some legit stuff. Not the smartest tool in the shed, but he’s a baller.
SP: #40 Sal Anvirfoso (L) (17) This young lefty is already ready for big time, and still has room to improve. In a few years, he’ll be the best in the business.
SP: #51 Rey Kleese (R) (25) Hasn’t quite developed as many have hoped as he prioritized his romantic life over baseball for a span. However, his head is back in the game, and he’s done well so far.
SP: #39 Omar Magghez (L) (20) A crafty lefty, he locates well and gets people out with his curveball. He’s a bit weird, but generally well-liked by his teammates.

Bullpen
Closer #32 Nate Merrop (R) (20) Throws decently hard, but gets people out like there’s no tomorrow. Gentle off the field, but he gets locked in come game time.
Setup #50 Zane Josrins (R) (27) At 6’6”, he doesn’t even have to throw that hard for hitters to be scared. The scary part is, he does. He can touch 96, and with his stride, it looks like 106. Off the field, he’s an amazing country singer.
RP #30 Allan Rend-Bymons (R) (29) Doesn’t throw super hard, but he gets by. Locates well with his fastball and has good off-speed stuff. Good team leader and mentor to the younger pitchers.
RP #32 Don Thikgore (L) (22) A left-handed pitcher with a knack for getting guys out front
of the ball. Not a lot of strikeouts, but an extremely low WHIP and ERA.
RP #31 Greg Jablison (L) (22) A soft-tossing lefty with one of the filthiest breaking balls in the game. Grew his hair out, which makes him look rather comedic on the mound.
Long Relief #14 Ken Jovscolla (R) (18) Not the hardest worker, but he has a lot of potential. He is already a great pitcher, but he needs some work.

<Koyro> (Democratic Koyro) NSG senate is a glaring example of why no one in NSG should ever have a position of authority
The Emerald Dawn wrote:"Considering Officer Krupke was patently idiotic to charge these young men in the first place, we're dropping the charges in the interest of not wasting any more of the Judiciary's time with farcical charges brought by officers who require more training on basic legal principles."

Baseball is Best Sport. Life long StL Fan.

Summerside Silver Foxes NS Baseball League Roster

In MLB's Arizona Fall League, teams send prospects from their minor league teams to combine with other clubs' prospects and form teams so that some of the game's top prospects can get some extra work in and be evaluated better by their organizations. No such league exists in Nova Anglicana, but with the announcement of the NS Baseball League, the NABL Commissioner floated the idea of sending the league's top prospects to this league to serve the same purpose of the AFL. The owners agreed, and each of the ten clubs were allowed to select two prospects to participate. This would bring the total to 20, with the commissioner working with the owners to select the five additional players to fill roster holes, regardless of whether more talented players were left out.

Manager: #62 Daniel "Dan" Anderson (New Waterford Miners, Champions, Maritime League, highest minor league in Nova Anglicana)

Colors: Silver and Black

Position Players (position, number, name, age, bat/throw, NABL Club

Infielders

C #18 Tommie Griffin, 21, R/R, DC Brewers - Griffin splits time at C and DH in the minors, even though the DH doesn't exist in the majors, big bat and big arm, poor lateral mobility, developing pitch-calling

C #52 Lamar Ford, 18, L/R, Londinium Capitols - Ford is a rookie who just hit .278/.345/.451 in the Labrador League (lowest rung of minors), lefty bat will almost guarantee big league job at some point, good speed for catcher, loves spaghetti

1B #20 Ken Henry, 23, R/R, Sept-Iles Bleus - Henry is one of the oldest players on the squad, after hitting .245 in Maritime League with 17 homers, flopped in big league call-up parent club wants to see how he does against international competition, one last chance to prove himself

2B #4 Josh Jennings, 20, R/R, Aquae Sulis Trappers - Jennings is a phenom expected to be called up next year, blazing speed and great defense, loves to trash talk, sometimes goes too far

SS #6 Tony Cannon, 19, R/R, Portus Abonae Millers - Cannon is Millers' #1 prospect, tore through Labrador League as rookie, handled Twin Provinces League (middle rung) with ease, great hands and great bat, loves to party

3B #24 Khris Caldwell, 21, S/R, Vinovium Gunners - Caldwell is a big boy who is surprisingly agile at the hot corner, better from the right side, but respectable from the left, club had to put a clause in his contract forbidding eating contests to control his weight

MI #25 Bobby Abbott, 22, R/R, Sept-Iles Bleus - Abbott is a natural SS who also plays some 2B b/c big club is good at SS, true glove man, if he can manage to hit .250, he will be as good as any 2B in the league

CI #50 Barry Glover, 22, R/R, Aquae Sulis Trappers - Glover can play either corner infield position, hits well enough to be an emergency DH, gap-to-gap power, very jolly

Outfielders

LF #16 Kelvin Freeman, 19, L/R, Newfield Express - Freeman won Labrador League MVP in first season, .303/.356/.495 with 24 homers and 18 steals, ranked #6 prospect in minors, cannon arm, poor defensive routes, ladies' man

CF #1 Lance Manning, 18, S/L, Mancunium Pilots - 5'10 speedster set a new Labrador League record with 67 SB, including 4 in one game, beats out plenty of infield hits, indiscriminate swinger, needs to take more walks

RF #5 Leon French, 20, R/R, Pons Aelius Mariners - Mariners fans believe him to be savior-in-waiting, hit .353 in 17 NABL AB this year, slugged 28 homers and 31 doubles in Maritime League, will he crumble under pressure?

OF #19 Bryant Massey, 21, L/L, Portus Abonae Millers - Massey a LF/DH type, could even see time at 1B if club wants to get his bat into lineup, plenty of power, but awkward fielder, think Michael Morse

OF #14 Dana Jordan, 22, S/R, Eboracum Yeomen - Jordan is top position prospect of a pitcher's club, shows good speed and average, ideal to form either half of a platoon or act as defensive replacement

Pitchers

Starting Rotation
1. #30 Nate Freeman, 21, R/R, Eboracum Yeomen - top prospect is widely expected to start next season in Yeomen rotation, dominated Maritime League to the tune of 12-3/2.57/0.98/136/45 in 127.2 innings, devastating fastball/curve/change

2. #32 Chris Keyes, 20, L/L, DC Brewers - features a 70 MPH, big, sweeping curve, spent most of season in Twin Provinces League working on control, looks have "Keyes to my heart" signs common at games

3. #40 Anton Sowers, 21, R/R, Portus Abonae Millers - 6'5, 230-pound frame projects as a workhorse innings-eater, heavy 93 MPH sinker, expected to break camp with Millers, has same eating contest clause as Caldwell

4. #22 Brad Bryan, 19, L/L, Aquae Sulis Trappers - tall, slim frame with long arms, hides ball very well, nasty slider, velocity average, but great pitching instincts for someone so young

5. #37 Danny Hauser, 18, R/R, Londinium Capitols - 98 MPH fastball helped him K 87 in 67 Labrador League innings, also walked 49, plenty of potential, lot of room for improvement

Relievers (note: with the exception of Lafferty and Smiley, the relievers are starters, and some will swap into the rotation in the second half)
CP #56 Sebastian Lafferty, 24, R/R, Londinium Capitols - great natural stuff, but had poor Maritime League season after dominating Twin Provinces out of college, club wants him to prove himself

SU #39 Donté Smiley, 23, R/R, Pons Aelius Mariners - splitter one of the best in the game, just vanishes, hitters can only touch the splitter if they sit on it, average fastball, practical jokester

RP #23 Adrian Romero, 21, R/R, Newfield Express - 97 MPH fastball combined with 78 MPH palmball let him dominate Labrador and Twin Provinces, a third pitch is in order for NABL success, great dancer

RP #38 Seth Banks, 22, R/R, Mancunium Pilots - Banks doesn't have the best stuff, but control of four pitches will have him with big club next year, low K/9, low BB/9, gym rat

RP #49 Luc Godot, 20, L/L, Sept-Iles Bleus - Godot has a herky-jerky motion and spotty control, but great velocity and wipeout slider, this league will tell parent club if he's destined for rotation or bullpen

RP #53 Sterling Andersen, 20, R/R, Vinovium Gunners - mastered lefties this year by adopting cut fastball, top young Gunners hurler, big club thin in that area, though, stoic

RP #45 Perry Collins, L/L, 22, Eboracum Yeomen - Collins projects as swingman/back-of-rotation type, club wants him to get experience in that role, great circle-change

Tachi Pitchers

Team Colors: Green and white some brown

Team History:Founded in 1949 after two years of Patistan being independent it became the first baseball team of Patistan and inspired people to make more teams leading to the PBL the Patistani baseball league. Originating from Tachi almost all of its players are from Tachi and it is the team with the biggest scouting department. Out of 50 leagues Tachi has won 35 came second on 5 occasions and third on 10 because of this outstanding scores Patistan had no reason to doubt that the TPP will not be a good team to nominate for the Baseball league.

With that being said, rosters!

"Ladies, gentlemen, children of all ages, welcome to the Polezapu Pochtov on this glorious Veliceszt night for the 22nd annual LBL All-Star Game! As always, I'm Ilja Lelyushenko, joined by my partner..."

"...Austin Abiola, and it's welcome from me as well. I gotta say, Ilja, this is my first time commentating on an All-Star Game and I can't tell you how excited I am to be here. The cream of the crop from the LBL face off for our entertainment and if it's anything like the previous years, we're going to be in for a show."

"Absolutely right, Austin, and you must be happy to see some of your countrymen in the lineups for both teams."

"It's a real cosmopolitan affair tonight, that's for sure. Obviously most of the two teams are Lzher, but at least a dozen other countries have All-Stars here at the game and nine of them have players who'll be going to be Super-Llamaland in just a few short weeks."

"That's right, Austin. For our viewers at home who aren't aware, the players who made the Smyslova Virmest squad will have the added honour of representing Lzherusskia this year in the inaugural season of the NS Baseball League, held in Super-Llamaland. Am I right in thinking you managed to get hold of the team's head coach, Austin?"

"I did indeed, Ilja. You can see the venerable Tigran Konychev down in the Virmest dugout, talking to his pitching coach, and he said that he was truly flattered when the Commissar approached him to ask if he'd consider taking the helm with Smyslova. As you know, Konychev resisted all attempts from the clubs of the LBL to coerce him out of retirement, but he said that the chance to work with the absolute best of the best was an offer he really couldn't say no to."

"You've gotta imagine he's enjoying working with some of his old friends and players."

"Old friends...and old enemies as well, Ilja. Not to mention those who've been both."

"If you want to talk old enemies, the conversation starts with that man right there on the mound. Milos Moskvin won a championship playing under Konychev, but he only turned into the holy terror we know and love after being traded from Terentiev and as he later said, getting out from under Konychev's thumb."

"We'll never know quite what went on with the Szlon back in the day, but didn't it look for so long like Moskvin was forever going to be Konychev's eternal nemesis? He was the one player Konychev never managed to fully figure out, and you've gotta figure that Konychev is happy they buried the hatchet."

"Smyslova would definitely be a poorer team if Moskvin wasn't part of it, it's true. Thing is, you look at the roster and it's clear that if there is one thing this team isn't designed to do, it's lockdown defence."

"This is not a roster that is going to eke out a lot of one- and two-run wins, I agree. How much of that is due to Konychev's influence? He didn't pick the roster, but he does pick the starting lineup and you've got eight guys who are absolutely lethal on offense. Let's run down the list."

"Alright. First up, catcher Mahmut Izzet. Six-four, two hundred and thirty pounds and he's not even twenty years old, Austin."

"His coach with Kutuzuvir said it best, Ilja. He said 'Watching Izzy play, seeing what he can do at nineteen makes me sad, because it just makes me feel like even more of a broken-down old man.' He's fast, he's strong and he's got unbelievable stamina - two years he's been playing and he hasn't missed a single damn game."

"Anollasia should be proud. Next, playing out at left field...the Executioner himself and my favourite player ever to take a swing, Jan Tamirov. I like to think we as a sport are moving past measuring success by the amount of home-runs scored, but Jan is a throwback in the nicest possible way."

"But it's not just raw power that's made Tamirov a success, you know that. He's a man of tremendous, almost scientific technique, and there will always be a place in the game for somebody with his swing."

"Does Smyslova have a bigger home-run threat, though? Obviously not. Down by two, with the bases loaded, and there is not a man I would rather have on home plate than Jan."

"I'm going to have to disagree with you, Ilja. Don't get me wrong, Tamirov is a fine offensive threat, but it's his partner in the outfield I like better. Tomas Bezell is a big part of the reason Vilnera upset Sargkisia in the first round of the playoffs this year - he's not just powerful, he's laser-precise with it. He's capable of turning what would be a single from any other player into a double or even a triple purely because he can put it right where the other team is weakest."

"OK, OK, Austin, slow down. I'm not going to deny Tomas is a fantastic player, but you cannot start giving him that sort of praise until he wins at least one award for it. It stands to reason."

"Well, if we're going to talk awards, we may as well move on. As good as some of his rival right fielders were this year, I think as soon as news broke that Lzherusskia was sending a team to Super-Llamaland, we all knew Gregor Talietzin was going to be name number one on that list."

"It's true. Two titles in the last three years and three MVP trophies in the last five speak for themselves. I'd say Gregor is the most complete player Lzherusskia has to offer - he can steal bases at the drop of a hat, he fields like a demon and most important, he's incredibly consistent. You have to go back six years to find his last error, and that just does not happen in the game these days."

"That's the outfield, Ilja. We may have to take the infield a bit quicker if we're going to fit everybody in before the first pitch is thrown. Would you like to do the honours?"

"My pleasure. At first base, we've got Rinus de Keizer, originally of the Republic of Sint Franciscus and probably the fastest player in the majors. He'll never be cracking homers but he's got the legs to make plays other guys simply couldn't. Second is Marko Petrachkov, the third member of the title-winning Vilnera team in this squad who probably earned his place here with the famous walk-off home-run in Game 6."

"That was a hell of a moment, wasn't it?"

"It just goes to show how unbelievably self-confident Marko is, and that's probably his greatest strength. Nothing fazes him."

"Case in point - wasn't he zero-for-four in that game against Grodelyj before hitting the homer?"

"Exactly. Other players might crumble, but the Sorokon mountains will fall before you get Marko Petrachkov to lose his temper. Playing shortstop, we've got Ladislav Akhmetov - we were talking about wanting players in a clutch situation earlier and, if I couldn't have the Executioner, I'd want Akhmetov. He's one of only four guys ever to finish a season batting over .400 and if you exempt his rookie season, he's never finished below the .290 mark. That is a special quality. And last...well, he's your countryman, Austin."

"Last, at third base, Kehinde Onotalu. Alone on this roster, he's the only guy who I'd say got here on the strength of his defensive play more than his offensive awareness. He's still a strong slugger, but he's got a unique combination of physical gifts and mental awareness that make him a superb fielder. We won't be edging out games, but Kehinde will be doing his best to make sure things don't get out of hand."

"We'll really have to race through the opposing team, I can see Commissar Revyakin already preparing to throw out the ceremonial opening pitch. Starting for Pitrikovsk tonight..."

HOST

Announcement (what, you were expecting this word to be colorful, too?)

I'm having scorinator issues. If I can't get it fixed by MD1, Lzherusskia shall scorinate.

I know this should be OOC, but I wanted everyone to look at it. But didn't feel that a TG was needed.

Lzherusskia "Ready And Prepared To Help Out"
LPO Sending Umpires To NS Baseball League In Wake Of Super-Llamaland Strike

SMYSLOVA: Ladislav Metrelivich, President of the Lzher Pridazhivat Obyenidin, today announced that Lzherusskia would be sending umpires to Super-Llamaland ahead of the start of the NS Baseball League.

With the NSBL just a few short weeks from opening, many were dismayed when umpires from the host nation announced their intentions to strike if their demands for improved working conditions were not met, with sources close to the league chairman indicating that he would postpone the start of the league indefinitely until a deal was made.

However, in today's address, Metrelivich explained that the league chairman had reached out to a number of participating nations in an attempt to simply replace the striking umpires, and that the LPO had reached an agreement with their own union of umpires to provide cover. In his speech, Metrelivich said "The highest priority here is to ensure the selfishness of those in Super-Llamaland does not cause undue grief to everybody else. There are a huge amount of baseball fans here who are very much looking forward to seeing Smyslova prove themselves on the world stage, and this was the least I could do to help that happen."

Olga Tursunova, spokesperson for the LPO Umpires Union, said: "We understand that our opposite numbers in Super-Llamaland feel they have a grievance, but there is an appropriate time and place to express that, and this course of action is one that will only hurt their standing in the public eye."

Consider this a combination between a bump and an IC acknowledgement that I'll be scorinating if SL isn't able to.

Ko-oren Capitals

A team made up of young players, too good for the national feeder league, but still a bit too young for the national league. They are generally 18-23 years old, and there is still a doubt for all that they cannot break through. They play on a field in Ko-oren City, in a stadium that is not used for the national league (and is a bit smaller than most stadiums in the nation, with a capacity of 9,483).

Notes

The Tohoko Giants are a defensive-minded team which is built around pitching and defense. The pitching staff is composed primarily of finesse pitchers who get batters out with an array of breaking pitches. Taiyouese baseball heavily emphasizes pitches such as the knuckleball and the eephus, which most pitchers can throw in addition to the usual curveballs, sliders, splitters and fastballs. A Taiyouese pitcher is expected to develop a large repertoire of pitches and leave hitters constantly guessing at what pitch he will throw next. Defense is heavily emphasized in Taiyouese baseball. Professional teams in Taiyou look for players who are fundamentally sound and play good defense. Players that struggle defensively usually don't receive any offers to play professionally in Taiyou. Instead, they sign with teams in the Free Republics and will only be seen on TV in their homeland if their team makes it to the World Series, the domestic championship for the Free Republics and colonies. As a result, power is de-emphasized in Taiyouese baseball. Instead of hitting home runs, players focus on making contact and getting on base. Taiyouese hitters are taught to be aggressive and make contact. There is also an emphasis on speed and athleticism at most positions. Numbers are not used in Taiyouese baseball, as they are seen as an unnecessary elevation of the individual above the team.

Imota Sunrisers NS Baseball League Roster (Season 1)

Background: One of Ken Urofuchi's biggest contributions to Imotan baseball was the formation of actual minor leagues after WBC 27. In the eight years since then, the Imota Professional Baseball League (IPBL) has established three tiered minor leagues to train hopefuls in the fine art of baseball. Despite resigning as IPBL Commissioner after being appointed Deputy Minister of Culture last year, Urofuchi still exerts a lot of influence on IPBL operations, and all but bullied his successor into forming the Sunrisers, composed of Imota's best young minor leaguers, to compete in the inaugural season of the NS Baseball League.

Name (Bats/Throws, Gender Age, Affiliate Club) Remarks

Kantarou Futaki (R/R, M 23, Kasumi Crows) A talented middle infielder with all five tools and the versatility to cover nearly any position. Considered a solid contender for the national team come WBC 30. Rather smug; he's arguably Imota's best prospect and knows it, and has mastered the art of pissing people off just by smirking.

Akane Isshiki (R/R, F 19, Akibahara Angels) Entered the minors straight out of high school. Agile in the field and fast on the basepaths, she has problems with contact and is prone to making errors in high-pressure situations. Despite her faults, her never-give-up attitude and infectious enthusiasm have earned her a large fanbase back home.

Himawari Shinomiya (S/S, F 23, Tamiyasu Rabbits) A versatile infielder and a switch-thrower who excels defensively but is extremely passive and timid at the plate. Very knowledgable about baseball statistics. A shy woman who dislikes the limelight.

Shinobu Oshino (R/R, M 24, Mitakihara Archers) A quiet and unsociable infielder who is probably the closest contender for Futaki's title of Imota's best prospect. Another five-tooler, Oshino has a slightly better slugging average but more strikeouts than Futaki.

Yukinari Shihoudou (R/R, M 25, Tamiyasu Rabbits) An energetic infielder who puts his all into every play and rarely makes errors. The only tool he really lacks is hitting for power, but he has a keen eye for judging pitches and knows when to lay off.

Ryouka Shimizu (S/R, Fuyuki Sabers) National Team infielder Yuzuki Shimizu's twin sister makes good contact and has good hustle in the field, but she's not very well versed in tactics, and is prone to making boneheaded mistakes. Her selection for the team surprised everyone, including herself. Does Manager Lilienthal see something in her that no one else does?

Kiyoharu Sugita (R/R, M 23, Mitakihara Archers) A stable but not particularly brilliant infielder chosen mainly to serve as Suzumiya's minder. Despite demonstrating a solid knowledge of baseball theory in the classroom, his failure to apply it in the field makes scouts question whether he really wants to go pro. Often the voice of reason among the diverse personalities that make up the Sunrisers infield, his facial expressions and sarcastic quips in media coverage of the team are the stuff of memes.
Tsubasa Araragi (S/R, M 24, Mitakihara Archers) An agile outfielder with an encyclopedic knowledge of baseball theory and a powerful throwing arm but only average hitting ability. Despite several call ups to the top team, he's faltered and been relegated each time. Hides his anxiety about his performance behind a facade of helpfulness and humility, and is quick to insist that he does not know everything and only knows what he knows.

Rei Kuroki (R/R, M 23, Kasumi Crows) A very hardworking outfielder nicknamed Professor for completing the Imperial University's notoriously difficult undergraduate law program via online courses while still posting some of the best statistics in the minors. A relatively solid five-tooler who just hasn't gotten the call for some reason. A man of few words who is never satisfied and takes training very seriously. No relation to Tomoko Kuroki.

Mirai Kuriyama (L/L, F 24, Hinamizawa Sea Cats) A capable but unstable outfielder with decent agility and contact but a relatively weak throwing arm. Ridiculously streaky; besides a hot streak last season in which she hit twenty consecutive extra base hits (including eleven homers, two of them inside the park) she's never made it past first on her own batting. A shy woman who dislikes media attention, she tends to mumble and say "unpleasant" when distressed.

Sadaharu Takamori (L/L, M 26, Uminari Lightning) A well balanced outfielder who has hints of all five tools but doesn't particularly excel with any one. Because of this, he's been passed over for promotion to the top league several times and has seriously considered quitting if he's not called up after this season. Melancholy, he puts on a cheerful face for his teammates.

Tomoko Kuroki (R/R, F 21, Yatsugatake Tengu) A gloomy outfielder who could become a solid five-tooler if only she could get over her neuroses. She obsessively studies baseball theory but has consistently failed to put her knowledge to practical use. Has markedly improved performance during night games. She often mumbles when she talks and is somewhat notorious for her creepy smile. No relation to Rei Kuroki.

Hiroomi Nase (R/R, M 25, Kasumi Crows) A solid five-tool player whose misadventures with the law and with admirers of both genders (and all ages) have left the Crows reluctant to promote him but unwilling to let him go and risk losing him to another team. He himself insists that he simply admires beauty in all forms, and is very charming. Something of a controversial choice for the Sunrisers, many speculate that this will be his make-or-break chance, with him either being called up to the big leagues or sent off to the big house when all's said and done.
Seiji Futaba (R/R, M 23, Uminari Lightning) A top pick from Imota's college ball scene, he was relegated to the minors after shaky performance in the top league. While he's an excellent defensive catcher and sends balls into the stratosphere when he connects, his inability to connect cleanly means that a lot of his long balls die at the warning track. The prototypical gentle giant, he's a bit dim and doesn't always know his own strength.

Yuki Nagato (R/R, F 25, Akibahara Angels) A solid defensive catcher who's utterly useless at the plate. Has a laser-accurate throwing arm and an uncanny ability to read runners, but can't make contact to save her life. Her quiet nature and efficiency behind the plate have led to rumors that she's actually a robot.

Pitchers
Haruhi Suzumiya (R/R, F 23, Mitakihara Archers) Some say that's she actually the product of a top-secret military experiment gone wrong, and that her saliva is thirty-seven times more corrosive than sulfuric acid. All we know is, she's called Haruhi Suzumiya, and she's a brilliant, unpredictable, and quite possibly completely insane pitching prodigy. Even the scouts aren't entirely sure just what she has up her sleeve, but her most common pitches are a surprisingly effective slurve, a decent knuckleball, and a two-seam fastball that regularly hits the upper nineties. Ridiculously streaky. Has absolutely no conversational filter, and coaches have learned the hard way to keep her away from the cameras.

Naruko Yasaka (L/L, F 24, Akibahara Angels) A gloomy and superstitious off-speeder who insists that she can curse opposing batters. Her slider and curveball are indeed difficult to hit, but she still has issues with control and dealing with baserunners. Creepy, but kind, and actually pretty good with children.

Mikoto Misaka (R/R, M 25, Uminari Lightning) A smart but insanely aggressive fireballer with a reputation for brushback pitching. His four-seam fastball regularly hits triple digits, but his off-speed pitches are below average. Arrogant and completely lacking in subtlety, he's one of Imota's best minor league pitchers and won't let anyone forget it.

Naoto Shinonome (R/R, M 23, Mitakihara Archers) Hiroshi Shinonome's younger brother. A dependable off-speed pitcher who regularly posts quality starts. His curveball is death to righties, and his slider isn't bad either. Often plays the straight man to his brother and the rest of the pitching staff.

Hiroshi Shinonome (L/L, M 25, Kasumi Crows) A fireballer who, while well-versed in baseball theory, doesn't have a lot of endurance and noticeably degrades with runners on base. Very energetic and enthusiastic, he loves talking baseball to the media. Primarily uses a two-seam fastball and slider.
Wakaba Saegusa (R/R, F 22, Yatsugatake Tengu) A capable but green fireballer who formed a formidable battery with Futaba in their college days. Mainly relies on a four-seam fastball. A serious pitcher who goes gaga over stuffed animals off the field. No relation to Haruki Saegusa.

Haruki Saegusa (L/L, M 25, Tamiyasu Rabbits) A happy-go-lucky off-speeder who is difficult to hit but lacks the experience to mix up his pitches. His primary pitch is his slider, backed up with a still-developing curveball. No relation to Wakaba Saegusa.

Ryuuichi Matoi (R/R, M 24, Fuyuki Sabers) A rookie fireballer with a very good two-seam fastball... and little else of note, though he insists his slider is coming along. Somewhat notorious for his relationship with his glove, which he's named Chinami. He talks to it, sometimes even carrying on full converstations and arguments with it, and is rumored to bathe and sleep with it.

Chiharu Kokonoe (L/L, F 21, Yatsugatake Tengu) A dumb as bricks fireballer who regularly hits triple digits with her four-seam fastball but doesn't have the brains to mix up her pitches. Has gained a fandom of sorts for her childish manner of speech as well as always insisting that she's the strongest.

Masayuki Minase (R/R. M 25, Hinamizawa Sea Cats) A rookie off-speeder nicknamed "Sleepy" for being able to fall asleep anytime, anywhere, even standing up on the mound in more than one instance, as well as for looking like he's asleep even when wide awake. Don't be fooled, though; his friendly, dopey demeanor hides a very potent slider and a wicked curveball, and he's better than most pitchers at the plate, with a keen eye and a surprisingly powerful bat.

As the Sunrisers is a prospect team, the coaching staff have decided to have Rotation A be the starting rotation and Rotation B be the bullpen for the first half of the season, with their roles switched for the second half.

On most baseball teams, the position of "captain" is merely an honorary position, often something given to the team's longest-serving member as a mark of respect, and they are rarely called on to do anything other than be a figurehead. Little thought had been given to who might be named the captain for Smyslova Virmest because to almost everybody, it simply wasn't important.

To the players themselves, however, it was a hugely important decision. A good captain is a locker-room leader, an emotional lightning rod, a man around who everybody gathers before the game for a few final, calming words and by those standards, Mikhail Lebedintsev was an extremely good captain.

Sitting in the bowels of an unfamiliar stadium, in a foreign land, with more than sixty thousand hostile fans hoping to see them crash and burn, Smyslova Virmest surrounded their captain as he prepared to lead them into battle.

There were no fireworks. Nobody got into anybody else's face. There was scarcely a raised voice and nary a cross word. Just twenty-eight men, arms across each other's shoulders, listening to the soft voice of their twenty-ninth.

It was a speech most of them had heard before, in some form or another. General encouragement; faith in their abilities; reminders that it's just a game and they should try not to take it too seriously - all old favourites, being trotted out once again to work what magic they had left.

What elevated it beyond was the final words. They were shamelessly ripped off from Rage Against The Machine but sometimes, the most inspiring things come from the most unlikely of sources.

"It has to start somewhere. It has to start some time," murmurs the captain.

"What better place than here?" reply the team.

Looking up and opening his eyes for the first time, the captain's stare bores a hole right through his starting pitcher. The cold fury in Lebedintsev's stare makes Milos Moskvin shiver involuntarily. "What better time than now?" the captain whispers, and Moskvin finds himself mouthing along. Mikhail Lebedintsev knows that every man in this room, at that moment, would run through fire for him.

There are still no raised voices.

There is no need for them.

Sports: Unolia Cardinals to Compete in Worldwide Baseball League
Cardinals Hoping for a Good Season, To Bring National Pride

City of Unolia-- The big day is here as the City of Unolia Cardinals begins the first season in the Nation States Baseball League. The team, which plays in the "Blue Conference," will play against the Moon Village Rivermen (Lunar Republic Islands) in their opening game, the Twin Brooks Dodgers (Estope) in their second and the defensive powerhouse of the Ko-oren Capitals.

The first game will feature Adam Runzia (0-0) as the starting pitcher, and the other two will feature Keith Danzo (0-0) and Marcus van Sana (0-0) respectively.

In preparation for home games, Hae Jae Bon Memorial Stadium in the Capital City of Unolia has been completely refurbished, with the wooden seats being replaced with more modern plastic seats. In addition to 75 VIP boxes, an entire premium section has been placed behind home plate. All of the upgrades reportedly cost 1.4 million USD, all of them were paid for by the Jahistic Party of Unolia, which owns Hae Jae Bon Memorial.

The player to look out for on the Cardinals' side is LF James Adams. Adams, 28, has been playing abroad for years due to the lack of a formal baseball stadium and preforming extraordinarily well in those leagues. Last year, he hit .299 with a .550 slugging percentage and forty-two home runs and eighty-nine runs batted in. He was an Unolian College Baseball (UCB) star in another time, and a one time winner of the College Unolian Series.

Lzherusskia pitches in as umps continue strike

-Colleen Moore, top contributor

Current Top Blogger ranks, using Carson's Modification of the Randy Pavlov (llamalandsportsnet) ranking system:

Colleen Moore (earnestishot): 99.90
Alexis Carson (bradleyiscuter): 95.62
Colin Brady (kingofhypocrisy): 92.05
Ethan Cora (Corascradle): 88.76
Rachel McHale (Halestorm15): 86.97

Devon McAyeal has just issued a statement to the world: the umpires are striking until their demands, which involve better pensions, new travel standards, and 10% pay hikes, are met. Mr. McAyeal is the chief lawyer for the Umpires of Llamaland union. Unfortunately, Llamaland's liberal pro-union laws permit things like this, although the drafters of that law probably didn't have the umpire strike in mind when they wrote it.

The whole incident began about a month ago, when the umpires went on strike and issued their desires, demanding changes to the average annual salary of $42,050. They originally decided a 25% hike was in order, but the media called it ridiculous and they dropped it to ten, which would make the average salary about $46,250.

In response to this, Super-Llamaland signed a contract with Lzherusskia to bring in foreign umps. This move was globally lauded as a good idea, and the steaming umpires realized that their jobs were now in danger.

The umpires would retaliate, though, hiring a legal team lead by Devon McAyeal, Richard Hernandez, and Ronald Mustang. The three boldly decided to sue the NSBL, causing global outrage.

An emergency election was held, and the NSBL named Chris Hartford their first commissioner, probably due to Hartford's statement that he would crack down upon the umps, which Hartford's wealthy opponent Marc Mills could not claim to want.

But the umpires struck back quickly. What they did would go all over the news.

(cue the IC.)

January 5, 2014
About 9:30 AM
NSBL Headquarters, Vargas, Super-Llamaland

Chris Hartford sat down in his comfortable chair next to his nice-looking premium oak desk and began to check emails from his Ouranos Nextbook IV, the new revolutionary computer that everybody wanted to buy for the year in between the day the first Nextbook IV was bought and the day the Ouranos Nextbook V was announced.

There was an email there from a strange address:

Date: 1-5-14
Time: 4:56 AM
From: sllimcram@nolookmail.sfw
Subject: Dancing bear

There was a link to a youtube clip of a dancing bear. As it humored him, Hartford decided to keep watching.

Suddenly, the bear picked off its head, revealing it to be a person, and began to speak slowly and solemnly.

"On the day of January Fifth, 2014, the commissioner of the NSBL, Chris Hartford, would be shot."

Chris's eyes widened. He spun around in his custom-designed spinning chair just in time to watch a bullet smash through his chest and into the wall, causing a small dent on the wall behind.

Chris looked down. The bullet had gone directly through his heart, which was now leaking blood in furious spurts all over his chest.

"Owwww," he moaned, and he was dead before he hit the floor, stone cold.

11:56 AM

Investigator Justin Millburn contemplated what people would do for politics as he watched the police clean up Chris Hartford's blood off the ground to send to a DNA clinic to confirm that it was, in fact, Chris Hartford's blood. Detectives and policemen swarmed around the scene, neatly marked off in bright orange tape, collecting fingerprints from every surface they could find.

Chris Hartford's corpse had already been sent for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death. All routine confirmation. The killer, having fled an hour before the police arrived, had pretty good chances of evading capture and detection.

Millburn shrugged and went for a coffee break.

6:02 PM

Doctor Richard Cunningham inspected Hartford's chest.

"Yup," he said to himself, "this sucker was shot in the chest."

Forensic scientists had already pinpointed the bullet's gun model of origin and some fingerprints, but nothing had led to clues yet, as the gun was found deserted in a potted plant and free of clues while the fingerprints were identified as those of Chris Hartford, now deceased.

Cunnningham probed Hartford's body some more but found nothing else.

A single shot to the chest by a cold-blooded assassin, no doubt working for the umpires. But who?

Silver Foxes Prepare to Square Off in NSBL

Kadmus Schooneraad, Summerside Herald

Every year, the great general managers and presidents of the various NABL clubs get together and select the best young men from their minor league teams to compete in the NAFBL, or the Nova Anglican Fall Baseball League. These young men brave cold temperatures and battle the fatigue of a minor league season in order to prove their worth as honkbalspelers, as we called them in my former country of the Netherlands. It is a great honor to be selected as one of the members of one of the six NAFBL teams, and each fall we welcome different faces to compete under the uniform of our Summerside Silver Foxes. However, this year the NAFBL has been canceled in favor of competition in the NationStates Baseball League, which pits professional and national teams from many different countries against each other. As our Silver Foxes won the NAFBL championship this year, their name and uniform was selected as the one under which the top prospects of each NABL club would compete. In order to offset the loss of revenue and baseball in the other cities of the NAFBL, the Silver Foxes will be based out of Summerside, but will also play home games in Miramichi, Port Hawkesbury, Bridgewater, St. Stephen, and Kentville.

Unlike usual baseball leagues, which play three games at a time, the NSBL will only play one game against each opponent at a time. The league is divided into two conferences: Red and Blue, into the first of which the Silver Foxes fall. Each team will play their nine divisional opponents six times, for a total of 54 games, with an All-Star game in the middle. The Silver Foxes will be going up against teams of all ages and skill levels, but we will only focus on their first three games right now.

In their first matchup, they will travel to face the New Bethlehem Crusaders of the Sova Empire, where #1 minor league prospect Nate Freeman will inaugurate the season with his sizzling fastball. The Silver Foxes' home opener will see them face the fundamentally sound Tohoko Giants of Noburu Taiyou, with Chris Keyes on the mound. The Giants will not beat themselves, so players like speedster Lance Manning will need to step up to win a probably low-scoring game. Anton Sowers will look to put the finishing touches on his promotion resumé as the Silver Foxes then visit the Imota Sunrisers, a team composed of young men (and women), who, like the Silver Foxes, will form the nucleus of professional and national honkbal for years to come. Good luck to this valiant Summerside squad in the inaugural season of the NationStates Baseball League!

With the national team in a separate competition, a team of local baseball players from Pine Creek is participating in the NS Baseball League. It's mainly youngsters, but it they're loaded with talent. Legendary coach Don Mehnjo has signed on to coach these guys. The middle infield is anchored by studs Ned Ammott and Jed Mahone. There is no shortage of catching talent, as the heart of the order can all play catcher at a high level. They have a trio of lefties in the rotation and a pair more in the bullpen, which can really throw teams off, as all of them are absolutely filthy. Their bench is affectionately known as the "Peanut Gallery" as they have some truly strange guys there. They are very skilled at getting in the heads of opposing players. Rudy Maxwell was recruited as a skilled sprinter and has been learning the game over the past few months. They have great team chemistry as these guys all grew up together, with the younger guys watching some of the older guys throughout the years.
