Introduction

The Pony Republic of Equestrian States is a diverse country inhabited by several dozen sapient species, each contributing to the nation's proud culture of tolerance and giving the Equestrian States a reputation of compassion and kindness. Tradition and innovation have combined well in this North Pony Lands nation, rapidly bringing it into the modern world after centuries of self-imposed isolation from the rest of the multiverse. This Lonely Multiverse travel guide is designed to be the ultimate companion for any tourist (regardless of his/her species) visiting the Equestrian States, and is loaded with every tip and bit of advice one needs to have an safe and enjoyable stay.

History

Originally colonized by sapient equines (more commonly known as ponies) from Magical Equestria approximately 2000 years ago, the Equestrian States was first established as a largely-autonomous overseas territory of the motherland. As a colony, the Equestrian States was fairly prosperous, developing a matriarchal society similar to that of Magical Equestria and several other Pony Lands nations. Several decades after the first ponies set hoof on the islands now part of the Equestrian States, however, the rise of a mysterious and chaotic entity known as Discord led to the government of the growing colony to adopt strict isolationist policies to avoid attracting the attention of Discord.

Several centuries later, the anarchic reign of Discord in the Pony Lands came to an end, though the Equestrian States remained firmly entrenched in its isolationist policies. Having formally declared its independence from Magical Equestria during the rule of Discord, the Equestrian States was reluctant to turn away from the policies which had allowed it to escape the turmoil faced by the rest of the region. Yet another cataclysmic event, just over a millennia ago, saw the known world embroiled in conflict with itself and the fledgling former colony sunk deeper into isolation for the next several centuries.

However, about 200 years ago, the isolation of the Equestrian States began to slowly erode with the growth of international maritime trade. Though it would take until just four decades ago for the remaining isolationist policies to be gradually overturned or made obsolete, foreigners began to take note of the Equestrian States and its northern location in the Pony Lands. What finally drove the ponies of the Equestrian States to abandon isolationism entirely was commerce, with the nation's location being perfect as a refueling and stopping point for ships traveling from outside the Pony Lands.

Active membership in the Coalition of Ponyist States (a military, economic, and political alliance famed for its quick, efficient, and merciless dealings with nations actively persecuting sapient equines and other non-humans) gave the Equestrian States reason to become heavily involved in international politics and trade. Within a decade, the Equestrians entered the modern era, utilizing magic in creative ways to avoid industrial pollution wherever possible and speed the nation's development.

Today, the Equestrian States is a magically-enhanced, advanced country that has successfully merged tradition and technology. With an economy dominated by tourism, agriculture, and the mining of precious minerals, the Equestrians have found their niche in the international community. Thanks to its location in the Pony Lands, the Equestrian States has become a travel hub for many traveling to the region from elsewhere, and the nation is easily among the more prosperous and safe for foreigners to visit.

Geography & Climate

The Equestrian States is best described as an island nation. However, most Equestrians live on the largest island, which is referred to by locals as the mainland, due to its size and role as a population and commercial center for the country.

The mainland is mostly flat grassland and plains, though forests and hilly areas exist and are generally scattered throughout the island. Running north to south are the Harmony Mountains, named for Mt. Harmony near the capital city of Canterlot. The mountain range divides the mainland into eastern and western geographic regions, and was once home to dozens of active volcanoes. However, no eruption has occurred in the Harmony Mountains in over 800 years, and the range is believed to be inactive. The ancient volcanic activity on the mainland (and on many of the Equestrian States' smaller islands, as well) resulted in mineral deposits from which Equestrian miners have extracted gold, silver, and other valuable materials for export.

Two notable exceptions to the mainland's grassy majority are the Everfree Forest and Southern Desert. The Everfree Forest is more of a jungle than a temperate forest, and is widely considered the most dangerous region in the Equestrian States due to its large numbers of wild carnivorous species, some of which would be considered "mythical" by foreigners. Within the Everfree Forest is the city of Everfree, located along the banks of the Stampede River and home to the largest population of non-equines in the nation. A number of more typical temperate forests surround the Everfree Forest itself.

The Southern Desert is (as one might expect) a dry region located in a small pocket of flat land surrounded by the Harmony Mountains near the southern coast. The only major population center in the Southern Desert is the small city of Appleoosa, located in what could be considered by some as a cooler oasis.

But where things begin to get weird for the average tourist is the Equestrian States' weather. Due to the magical nature of the country (and much of the Pony Lands region, as well), Equestrian pegasai are capable of creating, manipulating, and otherwise controlling the clouds of the nation. This gives them the ability to control where and when in rains, snows, hails, or anything else related to weather patterns. The Equestrian government is very actively involved in coordinating the pegasai of the country to generate and control weather patterns favorable to the Equestrian States inhabitants (and its many farmers, in particular). As such, the odds of an Equestrian weatherpony giving an incorrect forecast are almost nonexistent, unless you happen to be in the Everfree Forest (the only region of the Equestrian States where the weather is near impossible to control).

Travel

Travelling to the Equestrian States is generally easy, as most methods of interregional travel are available to visitors from outside the Pony Lands. Most international flights to the Equestrian States arrive at Canterlot's Harmony International Airport, but other regularly-used airports such as Manehattan's Royal International and Stalliongrad's Friendship Heights International are easy to find flights to. However, it should be noted that pilots flying to and from the Equestrian States internationally must receive additional certification due to the magical nature of the Equestrian States and much of the Pony Lands. Because of this additional requirement for pilots, some airlines do charge extra to cover the training fees.

Another common way of reaching the States is via sea. Manehattan's seaport is among the most active in the North Pony Lands, and isn't located far from the heart of the Equestrian States' largest city.

Once one is in the Equestrian States, there are many other options for travel. Rental cars, taxis, and busses are easy to find in the larger cities such as Manehattan, Stalliongrad, and Everfree, though one might notice that most vehicles are electric-powered. But while cars and busses are regularly used in some cities, there are also several in which their use is limited to emergency services (most notably in Ponyville and Canterlot's Old City district) or is totally banned (as is the case in Cloudsdale).

However, the limited use of automobiles is balanced out by the proliferation of trains for travel between and within cities. Some of the more prominent and historical lines (such as the Ponyville-Canterlot Express) still use steam-powered engines or high-speed trains designed to mimic the classical appearance of an Equestrian train. Subways are also a common feature in Equestrian cities, spreading underground to connect many places of interest for foreign tourists. Cloudsdale is the only city where cars, busses, and trains/subways are unavailable.

But in the end, the most common method of travel in the Equestrian States is one's own two feet (or whatever you have to walk on). Few Equestrians drive or use public transportation unless they have to, preferring to take in the clean air on their way from place-to-place.

Culture & Society

Religion

Any analysis of Equestrian culture and society must begin with its majority religion and guiding philosophy: Harmonism. A dualistic religion, it revolves around the physical sun and moon deities, Celestia and Luna, as well as the six principles known as the Elements of Harmony. The religion's origins are near-impossible to determination, though it is widely believed to begun shortly after ponykind first encountered Celestia and Luna over two millennia ago. Unlike other religions, Harmonism lacks a written scripture or centralized multiversal organization to create such writings, occasionally resulting in disagreements between Harmonists from different regions. For the sake of brevity, we will only be exploring the most common spiritual and secular beliefs held by those from the Equestrian States.

As stated earlier, the central beliefs of Harmonism include the worship of the Regal Sisters (Celestia and Luna) and adherence to the Elements of Harmony. Celestia and Luna are the two Princess rulers of distant Magical Equestria, though Luna has (in recent years) begun to spend considerable time aiding the C'tan in preserving peace throughout the Pony Lands. Immortal and, according to spiritual Harmonists, capable of moving celestial bodies through magic, the two Regal Sisters are worshipped (or at least respected) by ponies throughout the multiverse as living goddesses. Some have recently begun to question the actual power of the Sisters, though it is widely accepted among ponykind that they are the two most powerful magical beings in existence.

The six Elements of Harmony are Honesty, Laughter, Kindness, Generosity, Loyalty, and Magic. These Elements exist both as philosophical concepts as well as physical objects capable of great power that contain the purest essence of the aforementioned virtues. The philosophical aspects of the Elements are more central to Harmonist faith as a set of morals to guide one throughout life. They are, for the most part, fairly self-explanatory, except for Magic. The sixth element has been connected not only to the ability of Harmonists to use magical spells, but also to the drive for new knowledge or understanding. It also has been connected to the power of friendship, and is mentioned in the most common Harmonist saying: "Friendship is Magic".

However, Harmonism has expanded from its spiritual roots (particularly as more non-equines are exposed to harmonist teachings) to become a secular philosophy as well. Secular Harmonists generally try to follow the virtues of Harmonism, though they generally do not believe that the Regal Sisters are physical goddesses. The expansion of Secular Harmonism has also led to the traditional virtues being adopted and woven into other religions as well, such as Christianity. Excluding the overwhelmingly Spiritual Harmonist equine population of the Equestrian States, the most common religion is Harmonist Christianity, which is especially popular among the human inhabitants of the nation.

Language

Traditionally, ponies have spoken in their native Equestrian tongue which is common throughout the Pony Lands. However, since the emergence of the Equestrian States into the international community, laws have been passed requiring citizens to be capable of speaking multiple languages. The most common non-Equestrian language is easily English, which is spoken by approximately two-thirds of the population. It should be noted that some English words have been altered by Equestrians to better fit the equine majority, as the use of "everypony", "anypony", "hoofball", and other such words are modifications of the more standard English words. Mastery of many different languages is especially common among Unicorns, and as they are generally the ones more involved in business, are easy enough to find for foreign visitors. Numerous translating services exist throughout the Equestrian States, and airport bookstores generally contain a plethora of multilingual dictionaries for purchase.

Food

As one might expect from a nation dominated by a species of herbivores, many traditional Equestrian dishes are vegetarian in nature. The proliferation of such food is also furthered by the general lack of agriculture for the purpose of raising up animals for the slaughter. To hurt another living creature is, to many Equestrians, simply unthinkable. However, the Equestrian States is not only inhabited by equines, but also by griffons, dragons, and humans (among others). Restaurants do exist to cater to these non-equine species, and do serve a wide variety of meats imported from outside of the region. That being said, it would be unwise to be seen in public eating a hamburger made from beef or any other meat product as many Equestrians are disgusted by such foods. This can make finding food difficult in smaller cities and in the nicer areas of the larger ones. A general tip would be: if your waiter looks like a herbivore, don't ask them for a cheeseburger or steak. Equestrian cafes are fairly creative with what they can do with non-meat products, and the bread and pastries are oftentimes better than what you might find in other nations.

Inter-Species Relations

As the Equestrian States is home to a wide range of species, it is practically impossible for any visitor to the country to avoid seeing a member of another species, regardless of where they might be. Unicorns could pull this off in certain neighborhoods of Canterlot, and Earth Ponies could do the same in rural areas, though foreigners will often stumble across other species upon entry into the Equestrian States as customs officials are perhaps the most diverse Equestrian demographic.

Relations between the three major pony races have not always been smooth, and some tensions still exist today despite the educational system's teaching of acceptance and tolerance. However, inter-species violence is very rare within the Equestrian States, as is violence in general, with the possible exceptions coming from dragons, griffons, and other more naturally-aggressive species. Angering a dragon is about as dumb as it sounds, and is not advised unless one has a death wish.

Visitors to the Equestrian States are also advised to avoid appearing speciesist to locals, as Equestrian society could be described as having a herd mentality, where an attack against or insult towards one person might be considered an attack on all those around that person. Thus, some words to avoid using in the Equestrian States are: horse, mule, foal, or donkey. Calling a pony any of those terms is likely to result in a backlash towards the offending individual, as they are considered to be offensive unless one is actually speaking to a sapient horse or donkey, which are both easy to tell apart from ponies through their size and general lack of bright-colored fur or manes.

Venues for the 29th Di Bradini Cup

Group A
Royal Equestria Stadium

Image

Location: Canterlot
Capacity: 98,625
Tenants: Equestrian States National Team
Will host: Group A, Round of 16, and Final

Not far from the traditional home of the Equestrian States' government, Royal Equestria Stadium is one of the newest sports venues in the nation and can seat nearly 100,000 ponies with standing room for thousands more. Built to replace the aging Equestria Dome as the official home of the national teams, Royal Equestria Stadium is a reflection of the country, truly representing its traditions, natural beauty, and modernity. With a roof of magically-sculpted crystal, the stadium is awe-inspiring in its grandeur and has allowed the Equestrian States to show its most appealing side to the rest of the world. Royal Equestria Stadium has hosted a number of major events, including the 57th Cup of Harmony final, the 21st World Cup of Hockey finals, and the annual United Cup final.
Star Stadium

Image

Location: Canterlot
Capacity: 59,250
Tenants: Canterlot Stars
Will host: Group A, Round of 16, and Quarterfinals

Located in the suburbs of Canterlot, Star Stadium's name is derived from its glittering exterior as well as the fact that it is home to the Canterlot Stars. Though only the third-largest hoofball venue in the Equestrian States' capital city, the stadium can seat nearly 60,000 and is often packed to the brim with supporters for Canterlot Stars matches. The Stars are often viewed as being the 'other' club from Canterlot, second to the more successful Royals, but still regularly contend in the United League. Regardless, the local fans are devoted to their club and tend to be a bit showy despite being from the middle class of Equestrian society.

Group B
Derby Field

Image

Location: Manehattan
Capacity: 65,000
Tenants: Manehattan Dragons
Will host: Group B

Looming over the financial district of the Equestrian States' largest city is Derby Field. One of the oldest sports venues in the country, Deby Field boasts an impressive brick and glass exterior that speaks of its age. When it was first built the stadium was easily the largest in the Equestrian States, but now barely fits inside the top 25 venues by capacity. The loss in status for Derby Field mirrors that of the Manehattan Dragons hoofball club, once a power in the domestic league but now a fairly average mid-table team. Still, despite the aging of their home stadium, and the decreasing quality of their favorite club, the locals continue to turn out en masse whenever there's a match to be played.
Manehattan Industrial Park

Image

Location: Manehattan
Capacity: 47,160
Tenants: Manehattan Manticores
Will host: Group B and Round of 16

Home to the recently-promoted Manticores, Manehattan Industrial Park has one of the least-appropriate venue names in the Equestrian States, being located far from the city's actual industrial district. Rather than being an accurate indicator of the stadium's location, the name merely refers to the Manehattan Manticores' original home and their largely lower-class supporters. Boasting some of the United League's more rambunctious fans, the Manticores are often able to fill every seat, so foreign visitors may find tickets to be scarce.

Group C
Elements Stadium

Image

Location: Ponyville
Capacity: 48,750
Tenants: Ponyville United
Will host: Group C, Quarterfinals, and Semifinals

Ponyville might not look like a commercial hub, but the city's traditional town-like architecture hides its true status. Pleasant is the best word to describe Ponyville and its citizens, and the seamless incorporation of modern technology and conveniences allows visitors to feel at ease when in town. Centrally-located between Canterlot, Everfree, Manehattan, and (to a degree) Cloudsdale, the city also serves as a transportation hub, thriving on the Equestrian States' booming tourism industry. Elements Stadium itself is named after the Elements of Harmony, the guiding principles of the majority faith of the nation: Harmonism. Visiting fans often enjoy the stadium's central position alongside the crystal-clear Mane River, not far from some of Ponyville's largest and nicest hotels.
Sky-High Coliseum

Image

Location: Cloudsdale
Capacity: 65,000 (expanded from 45,000 for DBC)
Tenants: Cloudsdale Flyers, Cloudsdale Colts
Will host: Group C and Round of 16

Like many hoofball venues in the Equestrian States, Sky-High Coliseum's name was given for a reason. Located in the pegasai-dominated city of Cloudsdale, Sky-High Coliseum is a nice 2.5 kilometers above ground, with nothing besides the clouds separating it from the grassy plains below. Made of the clouds that it is named after, Cloudsdale is not a city for those who are afraid of heights or magic, the latter due to the necessity of spells for non-pegasai to walk upon the clouds. To accommodate foreign supporters who are not so keen on being zapped with magic by a unicorn mage, large zeppelin-like balloons based in Ponyville are employed by the Hoofball Association that will carry a limited number of fans above Sky-High Coliseum to where they can safely observe the match without the use of magic. Sky-High Coliseum's use as a venue for international competitions has been criticized in the past, as the hesitation of foreign supporters to sit in the stadium itself generally allows the Equestrians to gain an almost unbeatable home-field advantage.

Group D
Diamond Park

Image

Location: Stalliongrad
Capacity: 75,000
Tenants: Stalliongrad HC
Will host: Group D, Round of 16, and 3rd Place Playoff

Though Stalliongrad is not as impressive a city as Canterlot, Diamond Park is one of the most stunning accomplishments of modern equine engineering. Built into the very sides of the mountains, a carved overhang provides shelter from the sun, and unicorn magic gives the rocky stadium protection from destructive rainfall when the Ministry of Weather Control schedules it. Named for the seams of gems and precious metals that can still be seen crisscrossing the roof, Diamond Park is a beautiful stadium that stands out in a city that has become wealthy through nearby mines. (OOC: I'm aware that the above image does not fit with the description given. Add one or two tiers and replace the overhang with one made of rock, and you've got a mental image of Diamond Park.)
Maple Bowl

Image

Location: Trottawa
Capacity: 54,385
Tenants: Trottawa HC
Will host: Group D

Group E
Wild Grounds

Image

Location: Everfree
Capacity: 56,500
Tenants: Everfree Forest HC
Will host: Group E, Quarterfinals, and Semifinals

To foreign visitors Everfree might seem just like any of the world's jungle cities (albeit with a large population of non-humans), but for Equestrians it's the strangest place in the country. Surrounded by the dense Everfree Forest for which it is named, Everfree boasts the largest population of non-equines of any Equestrian city, and is home to a sizable community of humans. Elsewhere in the Equestrian States, the pegasai weather ponies control the clouds and weather patterns of the nation, allowing Equestrian farmers to take advantage of optimal conditions for agriculture. But in the Everfree Forest, the weather is nigh unpredictable and difficult to predict. Added to the presence of countless predatory creatures, the Forest is a forbidding place for ponies. Humans and other non-equine sapients were less afraid of the Everfree's bizarre weather patterns (though the hydras and manticores were still a deterrent) and ventured into the Forest, eventually stumbling upon a clearing which evolved into the modern city of Everfree. Wild Grounds itself is appropriately named, being home to the ever-so-slightly crazed supporters of Everfree Forest HC and located near the very edges of the Forest itself. With a breathtaking view of the city, Wild Grounds offers one of the best atmospheres for hoofball in the country and the city has been a regular stop for the national team ever since the Ponies began to play outside of Canterlot.

Bears Armed

‘The Bear-Belles’

National football organisation: ‘Bears Armed Association for Soccer’ (= ‘BAAS’).
(Chairbear: Morra o Barrdenn [Chairbear of Barrdenn Barbariennes S.C.])
National anthem (for sports): ‘The Banner Green And Gold’.
Official supporters' organisation: 'Arri's Furry Army'.

Yes, it still is an all-female team. As I’ve explained before, this is because the main ball-game that's traditionally been played in Bears Armed is actually a form of Rugby, but [for several reasons] the professional league for that sport is all-male and so some of the female players decided that switching to Soccer — and trying to establish a professional league for that sport for themselves instead — might be a viable alternative: They were right, because that professional league was founded shortly after WC44 and so has now been in operation for over an eightSquared of years.
All of the players are actual Ursines (i.e. anthropomorpic, bipedal Bears)] and all of them are making their international debuts here.
According to Bears Armed’s timeline, this iteration of the Di Bradini Cup is taking place in the year 2100
AD.

Manager & Chief Coach: Syrrae o Wirrenne
(female ursine, from Clan = Herrchaum; experience = 30 years as a player (with Merlchester Rovers, and from Brevity Cup #1 with the Belles as well, mostly as either left Forward or Centre Forward) followed by 4 years as a deputy coach (also at Merlchester Rovers), appointed to the deputy manager’s job with the “main” Bear-Belles team after WC65 and to managing the U21 team specifically for this competition; age = 45, left-pawed, fur = ‘platinum-blonde’; seems to have an [almost?] psychic instinct about where the ball and other players will be next.

Deputy Manager (Admin): Harreethe Sareeen
(female Ursine, from Clan GreyBear; formerly a staff member at BAAS, who was appointed as her predecessor’s assistant in preparation for the ‘qualifiers’ stage of WC63 and then promoted to this position after WC65; her duties include acting as the team’s ‘routemaster’, which means handling all of their travelling arrangements; age = 40, fur = light brown).

Defensive Coach: Lueth’hree Redwood _ Clan = Redwood; playing experience = 30 years; age = 46 years, left-pawed, fur = medium-brown. (She made her international debut in DBC21 and also played in Brevity Cup 2, both of which the Bears won, before the qualifiers for WC60, and then remained in the Belles [primarily as a Left Back] through to the end of WC64; appointed to this job shortly after that. Her home team was River City.)

Attacking Coach: Sarrathrie Sevens
(female ursine, from the Clouded Sun [Free Sept]; experience = 25 years as a player (for mostly for River City, as a versatile Forward), the latter 4 of them doubling as a coach for that club’s ‘youth’ programme, and appointed to this job after WC65; age = 42, ambidextrous, fur = cream; is a incredibly accurate shot, partly because she has very good sight even by human standards, is very accurate agile too. (She actually made her international debut as a member of the Bears’ team for DBC22, although the roster for that squad has never been made widely known, but the qualifiers for WC61 were her first time playing for her country again since then: She’s been verry thoroughly vetted, and seems to have been innocent of any involvement in whatever conspiracy it was that over-rode own BAAS’s plans for that earlier tournament.)

Doctor: Herrath Harrn
(female Brock [i.e. anthropomorphic Badger], from the ‘Brocken Brackh’ nation; age = 37, right-pawed, fur = black & white; hired just before the start of WC65’s qualifiers.)

Physiotherapist: Erra Karrach
(female Ursine, Clan = Kettar-Surra; age = 33, left-pawed, fur = medium-brown & quite short; hired after WC63.)

Chaplain, ‘One Plus Seven’: Urrsulha Nightfall
(female Ursine from the Silver-of-Night; age = mid-50s (?), left-pawed, fur = silvery; assigned to this job, by the Great Medicine Society, just before the qualifiers for WC57.)

Chaplain, Ursion: Ursiosopher Dorr-Surra
(male Ursine, from Clan Redwood; age = 48; left-pawed, fur = medium-brown with traces of chestnut; formerly a deputy chaplain at Bullford University, transferred to this post in preparation for the ‘qualifiers’ stage of WC63 after his predecessor here was appointed to a senior administrative job at the main temple in New Sarrum instead; he has a doctorate in Anthropology, and is a skilled organist who originally was really more interested in [Baroque] music than he was in sports but has developed an interest in football while in this job.)

Security Chief: Commander Halgrimm Harrlh’s-son
(male Ursine, from Clan Thulean; age =45, left-pawed, fur = light brown; seconded from the Confederal Navy, and has considerable experience of dealing with foreigners; appointed to this job in preparation for the ‘qualifiers’ stage of WC63.)

Caterers: Famhwuie Girronty.

‘Mascot’: Perraboh (one of the “blessed” Puh-Barra, or ‘Little Bears’; has only just assumed this role)

Style: Offensive, modifier = +3.0… ("A good offence is the best defence"...)
Their usual formation will include a front row of at least 5 (normally arranged as 3 strikers & 2 wingers), with 2 midfielders, 2 backs, and either a ‘Defensive Centre’ (whose starting position would be at the midpoint of an imaginary cross drawn between those other four non-forwards’ positions) or a third midfielder depending on the Manager’s decision before each match.

Opponents may _

RP injuries to my players / Godmod injuries to my players / Hand out Yellow cards to my players / Hand out Red cards to my players: Y to all, at least to start with, but remember what I've written here and keep it in limits accordingly... Any serious offences by my players would probably result in injuries to your players, and causing any serious injuries to my players would probably require such obviously-deliberate attacks that your players would get yellow or even red cards as a result too. Don’t kill anybody, or inflict injuries that would be serious enough to end careers, without checking with me & getting my approval (which is unlikely to be granted…) first.
Godmod Other Events: Y, I suppose, at least as long as you do so in an AMUSING way... but please remember that Ursines are fully sapient beings, as much as Humans are, not instinct-driven animals. Oh, and of course female Ursines are not sexually interested in Humans (of either sex), and it's very unlikely that female Harr'ayanau would be either. Please don't have them run amok or outright revert to animality, without checking by TG first, don't make assumptions about their views on politics or religion, and don't do anything that would make more than one of them incapable of playing in their next game...

Kit: This incarnation of the team will normally wear the usual set of designs (from ‘ediraf’) that the Belles have favoured in the past, with the ‘Association’ badges correctly staying ‘BAAS’ rather than [the now obsolete] ‘BAMAS’. See "here" for details.
Bears Armed has traditionally used base-8 arithmetic, for several reasons, and this has affected the set of numbers used for this team’s players: The numbers “10”, “22”, and “26” have been left unassigned out of respect for wearers who went to their deaths as heroines during various conflicts.

______________________________________________________

NOTES

Ursines may tend to be a bit less agile & slower to accelerate than humans on average, but the difference is generally less for such relatively young players than it would be for older ones. They do tend to have [slightly] poorer eyesight than humans, on the whole (although the members of both Clan Gunnar and the Sun Clan are generally an exception to this rule, and the eyesight of the latter group is actually often at [slightly] better-than-human levels instead), so long-distance passes & shots at goal will tend to be rarer behaviour for them than they are for human teams... but their typical size & strength mean that when they're running with the ball it will probably take a very brave human — as well as a very skilled one — to tackle them successfully (or, at least, one who has reasonable experience of playing against Ursines…), which should balance that factor pretty well. They don’t jump very well, but then they’re generally rather taller than most Human players of comparable age to start with so they shouldn’t need to jump as often in order to intercept [relatively] high shots...
Ursines are physically robust, of course, which means that they're much less likely than humans are to suffer injuries in falls or collisions. The females of this species are more even-tempered than the males, and the team's members will try to stay on their best behaviour not only in order to do well in this contest but also to impress upon the watching humans that Ursines aren't just "dumb beasts". They will not 'dive', or feign injury in other ways, because suggesting that they could be harmed so easily goes strongly against the grain. ‘Northlanders’ are maybe not quite as "civilised" as the 'Mainlanders'… or, at any rate, that’s the traditional stereotype..
Cold weather should pose no problem to them, even if there's snow or ice on the pitch, but tropical heat might prove awkward...

Unless our hosts at the match in question object, this team's members (including the designated substitutes for the match in question) will perform a [fairly short] ritual that's called the 'harrdiharr' on the pitch just before play begins... This is a traditional war-dance, meant to over-awe opponents, that has come to be a customary prelude for team games as well (similar to the [RL] New Zealanders' 'haka'...). : )
As has now been seen during various tournaments, some of our fans like to take drums — and possibly also 'Urrs-horns' [which are similar to Alpenhorns, cow-horns, or other "musical instruments", too — along to the matches…

The team is accompanied by a number of sapient Ravens, who are there both to gather information about the rival sides and to provide air cover in case of hostile waterfowl.
The Confrederated Clans (and other Confrederated Bodys) of the Free Bears of Bears Armed
(includes The Ursine NorthLands) Demonym = Bear[s]; adjective = ‘Urrsish’.
Population = just under 20 million. Economy = only Thriving. Average Life expectancy = c.60 years. If the nation is classified as 'Anarchy' there still is a [strictly limited] national government... and those aren't "biker gangs", they're traditional cross-Clan 'Warrior Societies', generally respected rather than feared.

IC: Important Info

Fans. Football hooliganism is a real problem in SJG. With riots recently reported in the matches against Paradystopia, the SJGNFA is trying to find a way to protect guest fans. Also, fans will treat the fans of the following nations heatedly, some for having a rivalry like SJG VS New Lonopolian Empire, Gregisgodistan and New Wolfopolis. However Security topic is seriuously for the safety of visiting fans.

Introduction

The Aliancista Federation of San José Guayabal commonly called Guayabal or SJG, is a Federation in Esportiva. It's bordered on the north by Estope and Wednesday Evening. SJG covers 56,312,121 square kilometers and has has an estimated population of 800.000,000. SJG comprises of 13 Regions/Krai (Plural: Kraya), 2 Autonomous Republics and 1 Federal Oblast

Etymology
The origin of the name cames from the spanish "Campo de guayabas" (Guavas County) (Vulgar: Guayabal) by the abundance of guavas, in 1770 was imposed as the patron of the town Saint Joseph (San José; In spanish) by this reason the name is San José Guayabal (Eng. Saint Joseph Guavas)

History
The village emerged in the mid-eighteenth century, and was known as Guayabal by the abundance of guava. In 1770, according to Pedro Cortés y Larraz (Spanish colonizer), had a population of 593 people "without being subject to any authority."

Indeed, the mayor Mayor Jose Ortiz de la Peña actual surveyor commissioned Don Francisco Jose Vallejo to chart a plan of the new town, which was founded on November 13, 1786 as a people's Guayabal. For 1807 had a population of 1,150 inhabitants.

Under the rule of El Salvador

He was part of the department of San Salvador from 1824-1835, the year he spent in the district of Suchitoto Cuscatlan. For 1859 it had a population of 2,302 inhabitants, which by 1890 had risen to 5,830,000. He received the title of town in 1875, and the city in 2006.

Independence of SJG:

The March 29, 2013, in protest of its 400 million people by the mistreatment of El Salvador, it was decided to wean and the same day, El Salvador accepted independence.

Through time, international litigation, could colonize El Salvador and then arrive to the continent of andarica in Esportiva

Population
According to the latest census (August 2013) was calculated in Guayabal a population of 800 million people, of which are classified into only five ethnic groups, which are:

-Guayabalenses/Guayabalians: 31%
-Salvadorans: 20%
-British: 19%
-Russians: 17%
-Eskimos: 13%

Of which are of different religions:

-Evangelical Christian: 96%
-Catholics: 2%
-Protestants: 2%

Language
The national languages of under Article 8 of the Constitution of the Federation of San Jose Guayabal, adopted in The Honorable People's Parliament are: English, Spanish Guayabalense, Russian, and Eskimo (Most used are: English, Spanish and Guayabalian), encouraging the use of language Guayabalian in:

- All daily activities as the language of communication between citizens of the Federation.

-support their teaching in public schools, private schools and universities in the San Jose Guayabal Federation.

But the SJG citizens talk the following languages:

-Spanish: 30%
-Guayabalian: 30%
-English: 15%
-Eskimo: 13%
-Russian: 12%

But 95% of the population has at least advanced knowledge of five languages, making society a society Guayabalense polyglot, highly acculturated and interesting to interact.

Notes

The Federation of Free Republics (FFR) is a federation of Republics with a weak national government (the "Federation Government") that has numerous checks and balances. The Republics, each of which has its own government, are relatively independent, although they are subject to the Federation Constitution and its numerous restrictions on what government can do. Most important among them is the cap on taxation, which makes it unconstitutional for government (meaning all governments in the FFR) to take more than 10% combined of anybody's income in taxes, effectively limiting the government. They are the nearest neighbor to Saintland, although that tiny island nation is over a thousand miles to the north of the northern-most Republic's northern border, and most Republicans actually tend to consider progressives worse than religious fanatics, even if both ideologies are considered extreme and contrary to Republicanism. This is the same team the FFR sent to last year's Di Bradini Cup and also to last year's World Cup and Cup of Harmony. The players on this team would not be considered the best players in the FFR or even the best U-21 players in the FFR. Republican athletes tend to have massive egos and they aren't interested in playing for their country. This team was the idea of Rule Theriault, a failed former manager who had led a team that was expected to contend for the league title to relegation. Theriault failed as manager at Petrograd United because the veteran players on that team, with their giant egos, did not respect their manager or his approach to the game. Theriault clashed with players because he emphasizes a team-first style of play and an intense practice schedule. To rebuild his reputation, he decided to work with younger players that would take instruction and was able to get a number of talented young players, even if most of the country's top prospects turned him down. This team made it to the finals of the 27th Di Bradini Cup, before falling short against the Equestrian States. Despite requests from a number of professional players to be chosen for the national side, Theriault chose not to make any changes to his squad for the Baptism of Fire to avoid any risk of weakening team chemistry. Despite finishing 17th at BoF 52 and failing to qualify for World Cup 65, Theriault once again chose not to make any changes to his side for the 57th edition of the Cup of Harmony. The team would lose their first 2 matches at the 57th CoH to New Sideburn and Filopines before picking up upsets against Jeru FC and Falcus. The Free Republics returned to the DBC last year and won all 7 of their matches, becoming the Di Bradini Cup champions. Abdullahi, the Assistant Manager for the Free Republics National Team program, was not at last year's DBC, as he coached the National Beach Soccer Team, a team composed entirely of U-15 players, in the Beach Cup. The U-15 side went 4-6 in the Beach Cup and went on to be eliminated after the group stage of the U-15 World Cup. In their second World Cup qualifying campaign, the Free Republics were in serious contention until being eliminated on the 8th day of 10 with a lopsided defeat against perennial qualifiers Gyatso-Kai. In the Cup of Harmony, the Free Republics advanced out of a tough group, at the expense of Qazox and their arch-rival Felix before falling to the Licentian Isles in the Round of 16. In the past 2 DBCs, the Free Republics have eliminated the Licentians. There are no large differences in ability between the individual players on this team. Backups can see playing time and Theriault will probably bench his starters if he feels the game is meaningless. Bolton is the team's best player, but he isn't much better than the other strikers. This year, with the DBC being held in the Equestrian States and with the Free Republics also competing in the UWCFA Gold Cup, Theriault decided to put his assistant in charge of defending the Di Bradini Cup title. Abdullahi replaced the players who are now too old to compete on the U-21 team, primarily with the girls from the U-15 program, but this side is undoubtedly stronger than the side that will be competing in UWCFA. Abdullahi and Theriault chose to send the girls to the Equestrian States because Saintland is hosting UWCFA, so Martinovic, Villalobos and Chase are the first 3 girls on the Free Republics roster for a DBC.

In case you are wondering, Nova Hellstrom no longer recaps this team's matches. She was re-assigned by Sporting World after writing an article about how adbots are great when she was supposed to write a match recap of a World Cup qualifier during the 65th cycle. Sporting World has yet to hire a replacement.

Introducing the National Under-21 Team of Furellum
Furellum has gone for a very young side for their first ever Di Bradini cup, but don't be fooled. Most of these kids competed in the last two U-15 World Cups, where Furellum came second in both tournaments. They've got plenty of experience, and to round out the side there are players from the national adult team, such as Vaduva and Vladimirescu.

The Background
To the unaware, Furellum is a small island situated at the mouth of the Taaru Sea in Atlantian Oceania. However, this is only the tip of the iceberg, as it were. The vast majority of the nation sits in another dimension, accessible only through the portal at the top of the Whit Tower that connects the capital of Altsby with its counterpart Other Altsby. Furellum is a land soaked in magic and stalled in time, and it is common to see men flying through the air while at the same time cars are missing from the streets. Furellum's population is made up of a vast array of sentient, bipedal, anthropomorphic animals, mostly of mammalian species. Humans are relative newcomers, only appearing in the country in the last 800 years, when the country was conquered by the Kingdom of Maalvia, who maintain Furellum as a Grand Duchy to this day.

The Ko-orenite footballer is much like wine: they get better with age. The Liteblues, litegreens or butterflies or whatever, have tried to take this cup home for a few times now, but in no case did they make it past the group stage. No one makes any illusion that this team will do better - we just want to get a point here. Especially against renowned opponents, some of which we have recently played in the World Cup, the public opinion is that this team could be good enough for the third or fourth place in the group, not the second round. After all, the national team is full of 30-year-olds, pretty much the prime age for Ko-orenite players. They young ones are just here to get some valuable experience for the national league, or to show that they could be in the World Cup squad any time soon... Or even to get better so that our domestic league teams are not so bad in the Champions' Cup or Globe Cup next time.

Albaie Imperial National Under 21 Team

Following a dismal performance at the last Under 21 World Cup the Young Wolfs are back and better than ever. Following the last international cycle in which the Albaie national team topped all expectations Sir Mark Deberen again has led the Young Wolfs to another tournament where he could potentially beat the lingering curse on Albaie football denying an international tournament victory. Many of the team from the first team have also been brought to the Equestrian States to try and show that Albaie does have potential for its future international teams.

Staff
Sir Mark Deberen-Manager. Mark another member of the Deberen sporting dynasty who as son of Vincent Deberen The Elder was widely touted as his successor and at the young age of 15 was playing in a Under 19's match for his fathers club Dubrack's Town Celtic against local rivals Albaie Rangers to prepare for his starting debut when a vicious challenge broke his leg in two places and the young lad announced his retirement but a week later was announced as Head of Youth Team Liaisons at Dubrack's Town Celtic where he took lessons from his father and started doing his coaching badges and by the age of 20 he was Head of First Team Coaching under his father and alongside Sir Arthur Sportern was his father's closest ally. Mark then left the club at 24 to manage the struggling Maras Wolfs and in his first season won the Emperor's Shield and the Imperial Bet Championship and so secured promotion to the Imperial Bank Premier League. In the team's first season in the top flight Mark completed the unthinkable not only winning the Albaie Cup but the Imperial Bank Premier League itself a feat unrivaled in Albaie footballing history. Then at the end of the season he announced his resignation and returned to fill the space left by Arthur Sportern as he became Head of the AFA and made a duke. Mark then at the beginning of last season filled the gap left by Stephen MacMillan at international level who left to head the Imperial Commission for Improvement In Football under Duke Arthur Sportern at the AFA being made a Count in the process. Mark has since been made by his father and Duke Arthur the Lord Manager of Youth Development and in this role is in charge of all teams below the full mens team.

Edward " Lucky " Mercer- At one point the 28 year old Edward Mercer was touted by the media and indeed Count Deberen as the greatest goalkeeper to have ever graced a football pitch but then at the age of 18 he was involved in a high speed crash on the M1 in which he was thrown from the car and by all reports should have been mercilessly slaughtered by the flight and oncoming traffic but somehow he survived and was narrowly missed by the oncoming traffic. While he may have narrowly escaped death his career lay in tatters with a broken arm and with both legs broken in two places. Mercer recovered quickly and by the end of the year married his childhood sweetheart and enlisted in the army. Mercer then quickly saw a 9 month tour of duty in Advar where he was involved in the Battle of Gurken Ridge in which he served with distinction. Following the Battle of Gurken Ridge Mercer returned home to see his newly born son Edward. Mercer also served with Crown Prince Michael during the Second Advar Revolution where he was one of the first men to join the Crown Prince's side and in one report was one of the men who stood watch for the Crown Prince when he killed Brigadier Custern during the Battle Of Advaria. Mercer was then one of the men to survive alongside the Crown Prince during his war against the Advar and in the Crown Prince's report was highly praised and was given a post in the Imperial Guard but again another career was ruined for Mercer as he was posted to the Sturte Building detail where he saw no action and no career advancement. It was only a few months ago when Mercer met Count Vincent Deberen who offered him the chance to coach for Dubrack's Town Celtic and for his son and others to have a trial at the team that Mercer returned to football. Mercer's son and all the other he recommended where taken on by the team and Mercer quickly showed his skill at coaching and for this Di Bradini Cup was chosen by Sir Mark Deberen as his assistant as a favor to his friend who had also suffered a career ending injury before it began.

GETTING TO KNOW YOU

A Few Good To Know Facts About Tynewear

Image

History

The lands that make up Tynewear once formed the north-east of Brettan, a small nation that once existed in the Tanike Channel. The region was an industrial heartland, with coal mines, automobile plants, and shipyards omnipresent throughout the region. Despite forming a vital part of the national economy, there remained a gulf between the working class population of the north-east, and the middle to upper class population of the south throughout Brettan's existence. These tensions spread into national sports, football being a particular example. Matches between the 'Big Three' of the north-east; Sundetland, Hadrian, and Ironopolis, against one of the southern clubs were often violent affairs, with hooliganism rampant and dirty play common.

The cracks finally split wide open when the government ordered the north-east coal mines shutdown in order to comply with the Green Directive, a policy that had bypassed parliament, which aimed to reduce Brettan's reliance on non-renewable energy. The announcement caught the north-east completely off guard, where more than half of the male population held coal-related jobs. Riots were rampant the week following the implementation, and over 42,000 people from throughout the region marched into the capital city of Wonidon demanding explanations. When police opened fire on an unsuspecting group of protestors, the violence escalated quickly, with over 1,000 casualties reported by the end of the week. A state of emergency was quickly declared, and parliament reconvened at haste.

The Prime Minister, Gary Barnett began the session with 'an offer of peace' towards the north-east, with the government promising full compensation to those affected by the closure of plants. In a stunning move, Mickey Ball, leader of the Mackem Front, the north-east's biggest representation in parliament, announced that; 'the north-east would no longer be held hostage by arrogant, selfish bigots', and promptly announced the breakaway of the entire region. He was quickly backed by Alan Fosworth, leader of United Tyneside, Tony Surtees of the Northeast Independence Party, in addition to several other MPs who were not affiliated with the region. Almost as soon as it had begun, and with the room in total upheaval, the entire representation of the northeast walked out. Despite several attempts at an appeasement, by the end of the month, The Republic of Tynewear had been formed, comprised of seven states.

Geography

Image

Tynewear is comprised of seven states, with each state governed by Directors who act as the leaders of their given state. The Directors hold almost absolute power within the realms of their state, but are supervised closely by the Central Committee, who control the nation's economy, allocating a set amount of funds to each state annually, and maintain full control of the nation's armed forces. Apart from economic and security matters, which are centrally controlled, the Directors are given practically free reign to do whatever they so please with their territory. The Directors are appointed personally by the National President, who is in turn elected, along with the rest of the Central Committee, by general election.

Image

Northumberland
Capital: Morwich
Director: Jack Alnwick
Population: 300,000

Northumberland is, as the name would somewhat suggest, the northernmost part of Tynewear. It is also the largest state in the country. Despite this, it is without doubt the most underdeveloped state in the country, having been economically unimportant throughout its history, although in recent times it has been revitalized as the agricultural capital of Tynewear under Director Jack Alnwick. Northumberland prides itself as being the most cultural state of Tynewear, being home to several historical relics and a highly undeveloped landscape that attracts tourists for its sheer beauty. Sports, football included, hasn't really taken off in Northumberland, with no prominent players (with several exceptions) or professional football clubs.

Image

Tyneside
Capital: Hadrian
Director: Alan Fosworth
Population: 800,000

Tyneside is renowned for its mix of modern and striking architecture, with historical buildings from centuries ago that have been refurbished and are still in use today. The highest developed state in Tynewear, much of Tynewear's economic activity revolves around the state capital of Hadrian, where businesses and social activity thrive. Renowned for its nightclubs, Hadrian is the place to be if you're a teen or mid-aged adult. Tyneside is a footballing hotbed, with Hadrian United responsible for the nurturing of several of Tynewear's biggest talents and maintaining a fierce rivalry with neighbours Sundetland.

Image

Wearside
Capital: Sundetland
Director: Mickey Ball
Population: 300,000

Once upon a time the economic backbone of Brettan, Wearside has been given a new lease of life as the industrial heartland of Tynewear. Automobile manufacturing, coal mining, and ship building all comprise more than 95% of the state's economic activities. A relatively quiet area once night falls, much of Wearside's population finish their days in the numerous pubs situated throughout the state, although for reasons unknown, the kidnap rate is steadily increasing. Wearside's biggest football club, Sundetland FC (located in the state capital), is the pride of the state, and is universally regarded as having the best footballing academy in the country.

Home to the administrative capital of Durham, much of Tynewear's national matters are handled here, with all the national ministries, in addition to the residences of the Central Committee situated in this region. Apart from these odes to government, however, there is very little in terms of interest here, although Tynewear's largest and most prestigious university is also located in Durhamshire. Away from the highly developed city centre, a string of coal and iron mines operate at full capacity. Despite its status as a footballing hotbed, Durhamshire does not have a professional football club, with its young prospects often heading to Sundetland, Hadrian or Ironopolis to further their careers.

Darlington
Capital: Darnton
Director: Tom Hurndall
Population: 100,000

The smallest state by land and population, Darlington prides itself on being the heart of the nation's railway system, being the point where the first Brettanish railways were laid and at which the West and East Railway Lines meet. Job opportunities are usually limited to transportation, particularly regarding the National Rail Service and state metro. Darlington is also home to a strong fishing community, owing to its geographical location on the River Skerne. The state capital of Darnton is renowned for its weekend markets, and is home to Darnton FC, a club that languished in the lower divisions of the Brettanish Football League, but always prided itself on youth development.

Image

Stockton
Capital: Hartepool
Director: Jim Howard
Population: 300,000

Very much akin to Wearside in terms of its docks and harbours, Stockton differs in that that is all it has going for itself. Heavily reliant on the trade that occurred throughout the Brettan Peninsula, Stockton's maritime-based economy is in an edgy state, and several new industries have popped up throughout the state, funded by handouts approved by Director Jim Howard. Breweries have been an everpresent in Stockton, and remains a very important source of income. Home to Tynewear's first nuclear power plant, located in Hartepool, several more are planned in the future to boost both the local and national economy. On the footballing front, Hartepool United is mostly dependent on rejects from the bigger clubs in the region, but has also managed to produce several players of decent quality.

Image

Teeside
Capital: Ironopolis
Director: Tony Surtees
Population: 400,000

An industrial powerhouse, Brettan's largest foundries were located here, and continue to operate at high capacity under the Tynewear flag. Iron and steel are the primary output of these foundries, and the state capital of Ironopolis owes its very name to these industries. While the local economy is based mostly on heavy industry, Teeside also operates a variety of manufacturing plants, from fashion to home appliances. Teeside, as with Wearside and Stockton, is home to several large docks. The biggest professional football club in the state; Ironopolis FC, has for most of its existence played third-fiddle to Sundetland and Hadrian.

Internal Relations
Despite seemingly unifying behind a 'North vs South' motto during their days as a region in Brettan, in truth, the people of Tynewear hold a very uneasy relationship amongst each other. This is most clearly seen between the people of Tyneside and Wearside, a near-century long rift, which for the most part stems from Tyneside's status as a generally middle-class state, as opposed to Wearside's working-class population. Football matches between the states' biggest clubs; Hadrian and Sundetland are tense encounters, and have been the site of several violent acts of hooliganism in the stands. Generally, most people from the two states don't see eye to eye and will often do their utmost to piss off the other as much as possible.

Teesiders often see themselves as competitors with Wearside and Tyneside, to the point of near obsession, but the latter two states do not see the same of Tynewear's southernmost state. Durhamites are generally closer to Wearside, and most footballers from this region opt to move to Wearside in order to further their careers. Northumberland on the other hand sees itself closer to Tyneside, while Stockton and Darlington are more or less at even terms with everybody else in the nation.

Management

The Tynewear national team is managed by three men who coordinate closely with each other. These are the Senior Tactician, who sets up the game plan and organises tactics, the First Team Coach who does the dirty work on the training pitch, and the Chief Scout who scouts for new upcoming players, in addition to the opposition.

Senior Tactician - Alex Valrey - 26 - Wearside
First Team Coach - Aaron Maxley - 27 - Wearside
Chief Scout - Jamie Downtree - 25 - Wearside

Goalkeepers

GK - 1 - Jack Hawthorn - 18 - 201cm - 93kg - Northumberland - Hadrian United
Main Strengths - Reflexes, Positioning, Strength
Main Weaknesses - Kicking Accuracy
Preferred Foot - Right

Possessing superb goalkeeping abilities, particularly in terms of shot stopping, Jack Hawthorn has been on the rise for quite some time now. Scouted by Hadrian United when he was only 14, the Northumberland native has already claimed the number 1 spot at club level, and seems to be a shoe in for all Tynewear matches, no matter the level. Despite his penchant for making remarkable saves, Hawthorn's flaw has been everpresent in his game; his inability to kick the ball. Goal kicks are often skied to the heavens, or more commonly, given away immediately to the opposition. As a result, Hawthorn prefers to play the ball from the back, with short passes to the nearest man. A good communicator, Hawthorn knows what he wants from his defenders, and knows how to get it from them.

GK - 22 - Hayden Shawe-Taylor - 17 - 193cm - 85kg - Wearside - Sundetland FC
Main Strengths - Diving
Main Weaknesses - Positioning, Error-Prone
Preferred Foot - Right

Born in Wearside, Hayden Shawe-Taylor spent most of his footballing education in Teeside at Ironopolis' academy, eventually becoming first-choice keeper, before sealing a move back to his place of birth. The definition of erratic, Shawe-Taylor is a man who can do all the basics you'd expect from a goalkeeper, but is also a man who also can screw it all up. His positioning at times in league play has been dreadful, being caught off his line far more than Sundetland would want, and he has made some calamitous errors that cost his club dearly. On his day though, he'll make all the saves you'd want him to make, and possesses a diving ability that ain't too shabby.

GK - 23 - Robbie Foster - 18 - 190cm - 80kg - Teeside - Ironopolis FC
Main Strengths - Reflexes, Diving, Jumping
Main Weaknesses - Positioning, Kicking Accuracy
Preferred Foot - Right

Perhaps the result of some whacky experiment to combine his goalkeeping teammates in the Tyneside national side, Robbie Foster combines everything that is right with Jack Hawthorn and Hayden Shawe-Taylor, with good reflexes and diving ability, with everything that is wrong with Messrs Hawthorn and Shawe-Taylor; awful kicking and some downright average positioning. The pride of Ironopolis' football academy, Foster is a willing learner however, and tries his best not to repeat his mistakes.

Defenders

RB - 2 - Harry Bridger - 18 - 180cm - 72kg - Durhamshire - Sundetland FC
Main Strengths - Strength, Balance, Jumping
Main Weaknesses - Reactions, Passing
Preferred Foot - Right

Decent in the tackle, decent pace, and possessing decent strength, Harry Bridger is... Well... Decent. A traditional fullback who prefers to stay back, Bridger doesn't provide much going forward, which immediately puts him at odds with the entire system Tynewear's squad are built around. His crossing and passing is average, and when he does venture forward, it is often times an aimless run that fails to provide any sort of support to the attack. He is also guilty of being blur at times, leaving his backline completely exposed. In many ways it would be unfair to place too much blame on the young Durhamite. His game is certainly not one built around pace and technique. His place on the national side is purely due to Tynewear's lack of options at fullback. For all his faults, Bridger will always put in a good shift, and is good at defending set-pieces.

LB - 3 - James Downing - 18 - 178cm - 69kg - Stockton - Hartepool United
Main Strengths - Stamina
Main Weaknesses - Weak Shot Power
Preferred Foot - Left

A far more natural attacking fullback than his compatriot Harry Bridger, James Downing isn't the most talented left-back you'll ever see, but his excellent overlaps and decent crossing ability are more than enough to aid the team offensively. In addition, Downing also possesses very good stamina, and is often seen running back and forth throughout the full 90 minutes. His shots however, do have a lack of punch, and he will try his utmost to pass the ball if in a shooting position. Downing doesn't have the worst weak foot in the world, but he rarely uses his right foot, and this fact has been exploited by opposition fullbacks on numerous occasions. A Stockton native, Downing has been at Hartepool United his entire life, although rumours of a move elsewhere have begun to spring up.

CB - 4 - Oliver Redman - 18 - 183cm - 80kg - Teeside - Ironopolis FC
Main Strengths - Strength, Aggression
Main Weaknesses - Positioning, Injury-Prone
Preferred Foot - Right

Largely regarded as one of the most complete all round players to come through the Ironopolis academy, Oliver Redman is the stereotypical stopper, possessing a tough physique and excellent tackling ability. What he lacks in pace, he makes up with brute strength, a never-say-die attitude when chasing the ball, along with a strong sense of pride when wearing the badge of his team. However his development has been somewhat curtailed by a nasty season-ending injury he suffered whilst playing Sundetland in a cup fixture last season. Since then, his progress has been disrupted by a few niggling issues, and there are questions as to whether he will even start a single game in the tournament. Technically, his positioning is also very suspect, and he has yet to figure out how to affectively guard against strikers with pace.

CB - 5 - Charlie Chilton - 17 - 185cm - 78kg - Teeside - Ironopolis FC
Main Strengths - Jumping
Main Weaknesses - Mentality
Preferred Foot - Left

There's no doubt Charlie Chilton has talent. He wouldn't be a starter on Ironopolis' first team if he didn't. However, for all his potential, he isn't quite there yet and his inclusion in the squad raised eyebrows from many sectors of the Tynewear public. His mental strength leaves a lot to be desired, often collapsing completely when his team goes one down. While his defending skills are just about up to scratch, they haven't developed anywhere near as well as his teammates, and his game relies mostly on who his partner is and how good he is. A lot of Chilton's club errors were plastered over by his teammate Oliver Redman's brilliance, and while the two should bring some good chemistry should they play, it is anyone's guess as to how well Chilton plays if Redman misses out, as he is expected to. Ironopolis' season went down the toilet in Redman's absence, and Chilton will be hoping to prove he doesn't need his childhood friend to play well.

RB - 12 - John Brown - 18 - 185cm - 78kg - Teeside - Ironopolis FC
Main Strengths - Aggression
Main Weaknesses - Crossing, Passing, Injury-Prone
Preferred Foot - Right

John Brown is a near clone of Harry Bridger. Both are ill-equipped to play as the forward-bombing fullback that Alex Valrey's system demands, and are far more comfortable sitting back and pinning down opposing wingers. Brown is ever so slightly faster than Bridger, and is just that tad bit more willing to run forward in support. Like his club teammate Oliver Redman, however, Brown has a checkered medical past, and is recovering from a hamstring pull he suffered whilst training. Brown should be fit to play in the knockout rounds... If Tynewear even get there, that is.

LB - 13 - Matt Smith - 16 - 178cm - 72kg - Wearside - Sundetland FC
Main Strengths - Sprint Speed, Acceleration
Main Weaknesses - Weak Foot, Strength
Preferred Foot - Left

In another life, Matt Smith could probably have been a sprinter (or he could have travelled the universe, although that is something for another day). He once clocked 100m in just under 11 seconds, and in many ways, it's his only asset on the football pitch. Smith loves a good run, but has an annoying tendency to run the entire length of the pitch and beyond, overdribble and miskick when crossing. This isn't all. Smith is weak, and is easily pushed off the ball. He's been accused (rightfully or wrongly) of diving, and his weaker right foot is hopeless. All in all, a one trick pony, and it's unlikely he'll ever start, with Tynewear more likely to use him as an impact sub.

CB - 14 - Ben Leston - 18 - 185cm - 85kg - Durhamshire - Sundetland FC
Main Strengths - Jumping
Main Weaknesses - Sprint Speed, Positioning
Preferred Foot - Right

A similar player to Charlie Chilton, Ben Leston is slightly more well rounded, and based on merit, probably deserves a place on the starting-XI more than his compatriot from Teeside. However, his pace (or lack of it) is a major detriment to his game, and he hasn't exactly learned how to overcome this weakness yet. Speedy inside-forwards and strikers should have a field day should they come across Mr. Leston, as his general marking and positioning is all over the place anyway. When in top form, however, he is a brick in defence, and can always be depended to put his body on the line for the sake of the squad.

CB - 15 - Jackson Naylor - 18 - 184cm - 89kg - Stockton - Hartepool United
Main Strengths - Injury-Free, Leadership
Main Weaknesses - n/a
Preferred Foot - Left

A born leader, Jackson Naylor has been the Hartepool U-21s captain for 3 seasons running now, and recently made the jump to the first team. An inspiration to his teammates, Naylor is an average football defender at best, although he has plenty of time to develop. An all rounder, Naylor does not possess any key weakness in particular, possessing a balanced set of skills. Although he is primarily a centre-back, Naylor can be deployed out on the flank as a left-back, although this is not advisable as he often drifts inside the pitch, seemingly as a matter of instinct.

Midfielders

CM - 6 - Alfie Whitehead (C) - 17 - 178cm - 76kg - Stockton - Ironopolis FC
Main Strengths - Aggression, Tackling, Leadership
Main Weaknesses - Discipline
Preferred Foot - Right

Alfie Whitehead is a fox terrier, there's no other way to describe him. Once he has your scent, he will run after you, won't stop chasing until he's got you, and will beat the f*cking crap out of you until you... Sorry, urm, what we meant to say is, Alfie Whitehead is a tough (understatement) tackler who seemingly never gives up and will run till he drops, no matter the situation. Although he has a reputation as a dirty player (somewhat backed up by the stat of 6 red cards in a season), when he's on top form, he is the best defensive midfielder you'll ever see, doubling as a box-to-box midfielder when his team are on the attack. His tackles are always strong and pack a punch, and will either; A) break the opponent's legs cleanly, or; B) break the opponent's legs. Not really a man of words, Whithead captains the side by example, always showing off his exemplary attitude in, well, extreme fashion.

RW - 7 - Jacob Fairman - 17 - 175cm - 63kg - Wearside - Sundetland FC
Main Strengths - Agility, Dribbling, Balance
Main Weaknesses - Attitude, Tackling
Preferred Foot - Left

A stereotypical inside-forward with supreme dribbling ability, Jacob Fairman, a Wearsider, hails from a Hadrian United-supporting family, an oddity, to say the least. On his day, Fairman is unbeatable, utilising pace, his excellent balance and agility to tear opposing fullbacks to shreds. Unfortunately, he is often times seen looking uninterested, not bothering to track back, and looking completely uncreative and lost when his side are on the break. The general consensus is, if Fairman is surrounded by players of quality who will put in effort, then he too shall return the favour. Tynewear will be hoping and praying that Fairman realises his potential on the world stage.

CM - 8 - Tommy Duke (VC) - 18 - 182cm - 67kg - Wearside - Sundetland FC
Main Strengths - Stamina, Passing
Main Weaknesses - Heading, Tackling
Preferred Foot - Right

Arguably the jewel of Sundetland's elite academy, Tommy Duke started out his career as a playmaker, often shifting positions from behind the striker as a traditional number 10, to a deep-lying playmaker in a double pivot. As time passed by, he was eventually recreated as a box-to-box midfielder, taking full advantage of his seemingly endless stamina and excellent passing ability. Over time his long ball ability that had made him such a talked about player slowly eroded, but Duke is still without a doubt one of the most talented players on the Tynewear side, and is more or less excellent in all aspects of the game, with the notable exceptions of heading (often opting to knee or chest the ball at goal instead) and tackling, which isn't a result of him not trying, he just... Doesn't know how to do it.

CM - 10 - Josh Oliver - 17 - 180cm - 65kg - Teeside - Ironopolis FC
Main Strengths - Dribbling, Crossing, Curve
Main Weaknesses - Tackling, Strength
Preferred Foot - Left

A traditional winger who loves to stay out wide and utilise the tried and tested 'run, tap the ball, whip in a cross' tactic, Josh Oliver has, oddly enough, been used as a central midfielder by Alex Valrey in almost all his outings on the national side. On paper, it would seem a waste of someone who is renowned for his superb crossing ability. Valrey has deployed Oliver in something akin to a deep-lying playmaker position, and so far it has been producing mixed results. Oliver would much rather return to the wing, having the skill to play on either side. At club level, Oliver plays on the wing with Danny Herbert, with the two switching sides almost every 5-10 minutes. When on his weaker right side, Oliver often cuts in and tries his luck at goal, although he can cross with his right foot if necessary.

LW - 11 - Danny Herbert - 17 - 170cm - 73kg - Teeside - Ironopolis FC
Main Strengths - Crossing, Sprint Speed, Two-Footed
Main Weaknesses - Strength
Preferred Foot - Right

Danny Herbert is the meaning of two-footed. There is literally no difference between what he can do with his right foot, and his left one, although he claims to be a right-footer. His game is very similar to that of Josh Oliver, and he loves to beat his man and whip in a cross, no matter the flank he's playing on. Although he is faster and slightly more effective at this sort of game than Oliver, his bag isn't as full of tricks, and rarely tries to go for goal. A small lad at only 5'7", Herbert is pretty easy to bully off the ball, although he will try his hardest not to lose out when pressured.

CM - 16 - Rory Mansell - 18 - 178cm - 79kg - Wearside - Sundetland FC
Main Strengths - Shot Power, Aggression
Main Weaknesses - Reactions
Preferred Foot - Right

A true grafter, Rory Mansell will always give his 110%, although he isn't as wild and untamed as Alfie Whitehead. Very much a lesser version of the national captain, Mansell possesses pretty much the same abilities as Whitehead, although his tackling and aggression are nowhere near as ferocious as the number 6. In many ways, Mansell is a 'safer' option. You can trust him to get a yellow card, but he will rarely overstep it and can usually contain himself. Also capable of the odd thunderbolt, Mansell has a reputation for scoring some absolute stunners from long range, although his success rate isn't very high statistically. Perhaps the biggest problem with Mansell is he takes a lot of time to get into the game, and a tactical switch by the opposing manager can really send the Wearsider's head into chaos.

RW - 17 - George Henderson - 19 - 194cm - 77kg - Tyneside - Hadrian United
Main Strengths - Sprint Speed, Dribbling
Main Weaknesses - Crossing, Finishing
Preferred Foot - Left

The son of Delaclavan immigrants, George Henderson is a notoriously tricky customer. Owing to his tall height, it is often funny to see the awkward 6'4" winger attempt his stepovers and fakes, but he sure knows how to them, and will only get better as time passes by. Always on the front foot, Henderson isn't the most willing of defenders, but will do his part and track back, even if it is half-heartedly. For a winger, though, he is surprisingly poor at crossing, and as an inside-forward his finishing leaves a lot to be desired. It is hoped that with time, these issues will be ironed out. For now, he is very very raw, and will without a doubt be behind Jacob Fairman on the depth chart.

CM - 18 - William Fry - 19 - 176cm - 70kg - Tyneside - Sundetland FC
Main Strengths - Stamina, Aggression
Main Weaknesses - Dribbling, Shot Power
Preferred Foot - Left

Another 'lesser Whitehead', William Fry combines endless energy with weaker but more precise tackling. Despite hailing from Tyneside, Fry has been with Sundetland throughout his career and is capable of playing as an emergency left-back. Fry's less intense style of tackling perhaps owes to the fact he is physically weaker than most of the others around him. On the national side, Alex Valrey has deployed him as a box-to-box midfielder, focussing more on the running and passing aspects of his game. Fry is relishing the opportunity, having been deployed mostly as a destroyer by his club side. However, it is unlikely he will ever break into the starting-XI, with Whitehead, Duke and Oliver holding a tight grip on the central midfield places.

CM - 20 - Ethan Spence - 18 - 188cm - 74kg - Tyneside - Hadrian United
Main Strengths - Passing, Interceptions, Vision
Main Weaknesses - Strength, Finishing
Preferred Foot - Right

A superb passer of the ball with fantastic vision and composure, for some reason Ethan Spence hasn't broken into the national starting-XI. Tynesiders will argue it is a 'Wearside conspiracy' by the Wearside management trio of Valrey, Downtree and Maxley. Unfortunately, there seems to be no other explanation for it, as much as we like to be reasonable and all. Spence is an extremely underrated and undervalued footballer in Tyneside at the moment, and rarely gets the plaudits he deserves, with many seeing him as a simple 'jack of all trades', something he is far from. Should he play in the tournament, it'll probably be for a move abroad, although it will take some performance to catch the eye of any interested scouts. Despite his height, Spence is surprisingly easy to steal the ball from, and in his occasional outing as an emergency centre-back for Hadrian United, he has been downright disastrous, getting outmuscled and outdone by stronger opponents. Hopefully, this aspect of his game won't matter too much in the upcoming tournaments.

LW - 21 - Adam Carroll - 18 - 178cm - 64kg - Darlington - Darnton FC
Main Strengths - Crossing, Volleys, Shot Power
Main Weaknesses - Strength, Jumping
Preferred Foot - Right

The lone representative of Darlington, Adam Carroll is perhaps still looking for his best position. Used as a winger by both club and country, Carroll is a strange mix of several types of football player, possessing the crossing ability of a typical winger, the volleying and finishing of a decent striker, and the eye for a pass of a playmaker. Carroll has looked most dangerous whilst playing behind the striker, sending through balls galore and more or less controlling the tempo of the game. It is, however, unlikely he will play that role very often for the national side owing to Alex Valrey's preference of the 4-3-3. Another player who isn't the strongest specimen you'll ever find, Carroll relies on quick footwork to get by his man.

Strikers

ST - 9 - Joel Hunt - 17 - 191cm - 76kg - Tyneside - Hadrian United
Main Strengths - Strength, Heading, Finishing
Main Weaknesses - Passing, Crossing, Dribbling
Preferred Foot - Left

Often referred to as a classic centre forward, owing to his his strength, powerful shot, and excellent heading ability, Joel Hunt is your stereotypical Geordie from Tyneside, possessing a strong hatred for Wearsiders (in turn meaning, most of his teammates on the national side) and an accent that is difficult for outsiders to understand. Contrary to popular belief, Hunt has some decent pace on him, and loves to simply ram into opposing defenders and take shots. He is a huge threat from setpieces, and is a clinical finisher, with a 1 in 2 success rate on the club stage. His passing and crossing leave a lot to be desired, but it is hoped that these skills will not be required too often.

ST - 19 - James Taylor - 18 - 183cm - 87kg - Tyneside - Hadrian United
Main Strengths - Stamina, Positioning
Main Weaknesses - Volleys, Passing
Preferred Foot - Right

He's not the best striker in terms of scoring output you'll ever see, but one thing you're guaranteed to get from James Taylor is workrate and energy. Often deployed in a 4-4-2 alongside Joel Hunt for Hadrian United, Taylor takes pleasure in tracking back and breaking up attacks from high up the pitch. Not the fastest player in the world, Taylor relies on his good positioning to gain scoring opportunities, and his sizeable body allows him to hold up play very effectively. Although he plays short passes often, they are often backwards and sideways, and are intercepted far more than he would like. His volleys are also poor, often times skying the ball to row Z.

Tactics

Image

Alex Valrey's favoured 4-3-3 formation revolves around a central midfield three that contains three specialists; a destroyer, a creator and a runner. The destroyer is tasked with screening the defence and breaking up attacks, whilst also assisting in recycling possession. Alfie Whitehead is a shoein here, although in his absence Rory Mansell would be favourite to replace him. Positioned slightly ahead of the destroyer is the creator or passer, a deep-lying playmaker who's aim is to dictate the tempo of the game and create chances. Although Ethan Spence is the natural choice for the role, Josh Oliver has been handed the role during much of the pre-tournament campaign, and is expected to start. The final piece of the puzzle is the runner, the box-to-box midfielder tasked with linking the back with the front. Tommy Duke is a confirmed a start as long as he's fit and not suspended, and will shoulder a lot of responsibility throughout.

The front three comprises of a hardworking target man and two wingers. Competition is tight between Hadrian United teammates Noel Hunt and James Taylor, but when push comes to shove it is expected that Hunt will be starting. Valrey expects the number 9 to hold up play and bring the rest of the team into play, whilst also carrying defensive responsibility when the team is on the back foot. The wingers start the game inside-out, with Herbert the right-footer expected to begin out left, and Fairman the left-footer out right. Herbert will be providing more or less constant threat with crosses on both sides, whilst Fairman will be more of a goal threat cutting onto his left foot from the right flank. Both wingers will swap sides every 5-10 minutes, and are expected to track back tirelessly.

The back four are expected to play a high line, allowing the team to recycle possession as quickly as possible. A risky if not suicidal decision, Valrey seems to insist on it despite the fact Tynewear's roster is ill-equipped to carry out his intentions. Nevertheless, if everyone is fit, expect the Ironopolis' pairing of Charlie Chilton and Oliver Redman to start. The fullbacks are expected to bomb forward continuously, providing ample support for the wingers, running back when required. James Downing is more or less guaranteed a start, whilst Harry Bridger is thought to just about edge it in front of John Brown. In goal, Jack Hawthorn is a definite.

Go wild kid. But not too wild. I mean just keep it logical. Any queries? Send me a TG.

Like the national team, the Equestrian U-21 squad receives its kits from two different companies, though the design for each is the same. Kits for the humanoid players (see above) are provided by Kirola Sportswear of Audioslavia, while those for equine and other non-humanoid players are provided by Generosity Sporting Equipment. The Equestrian kits were designed to be simple and easy to identify, using the national colors of purple and orange.

On Species and Equestrian Hoofball
The Equestrian States is a nation of incredible diversity. When many countries make this kind of statement, they are referring only to racial matters dealing with differences in skin color or culture. But the Equestrian States takes diversity to a whole new level, with dozens of sapient species living alongside each other in harmony. From pegasai to griffons, and humans to dragons, the Equestrian States is among the most diverse nations known to exist. But diversity has also had a unique and intriguing impact on the playing of sports in the Equestrian States, and hoofball is no exception. In the following paragraphs, the natural strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies of each prominent species in the Equestrian States will be explored, offering those unfamiliar with the Equestrian States a chance to explore the wonderful diversity that makes the Equestrian States a great country and gives our beloved national hoofball team a versatility that few others can hope to match.

The DBC 29 group "A" analysis

Group A
Image Equestrian States
Image Farfadillis
Image Patistan
Image San José Guayabal
Image The Royal Kingdom of Quebec

This is the official analysis by SJG about DBC (Di Bradini Cup) 29, which is our first international experience with U-21 teams, besides being a good international showcase to show the quality of our raw material is something beneficial for our players, they will gain more international experience when they become part of the Absolute "Selecta SJG".

More to the point, this will be a tough competition for "La Azulita" (Nickname due to the first kit, blue, and means azul in spanish) Where group share some international heavyweights as runners-up of last edition, Farfadillis and the hosts, Equestrian States. But that's not all to highlight, so I will give a detailed analysis for each team.

Image Patistan: Like us, Patistan is a new rival in this sphere, but we have had the opportunity to play games against them, which have resulted in victories for us, such as 2-0, 1-0 and 3-1 . They are a very well combined but has some weaknesses on defense, something that makes it very vulnerable to attacks from the opposing team, but not to be trusted because it has a good front and very efficient tactical system for attack.

Image Equestrian States: And here the fun begins Oops, I mean "our torture begins", apart from being the host, are a team that knows how to win this tournament, as he did two editions behind. They have a pretty offensive game but that does not neglect the defense, apart from having players shoot up very well from long range, have strengths and collective play and host factor, but are weak in appearance of the midfield, because they have some tendency to err passes when desperate to go at a disadvantage or when things do not go as they want, but still, it is a team who must be treated carefully.

Image The Royal Kingdom of Quebec: At absolute level, this team is very good with his talent At all, this team is very good with his talent, because it has a good command of the ball and a defense very well done, but it's an unknown at this cup, because they have not sent their roster of players, which leaves a question mark on how they play, but may possess a tendency to long pass and the aerial game.

Image Farfadillis: And here's the cherry on our cake the final nail in our coffin with an Uruguayan flavor This is a team to respect seriously, due to being the runner-up of last edition and being the most offensive team in the group, have seasoned players who fight every ball until the last breath and having a sense of humility and strong partnership but have an error, like SJG tend to fail in the defense, because of its full attack strategy, but we must not be complacent, because we have to respect the opponent.

In conclusion, we are in every chance to at least make the struggle to advance to the next round and make a decent participation in fact, we will be a disaster.
