Lillard: "After a mix-up in scheduling in which we only broadcast after IBS double-headers, we're back with Wolfpack Postgame Live! My name is Rebecca Lillard, I'm joined by Rafael Ramos and Thomas Figueroa, and the Wolfpack once again split a double-header, once again beating the tough Gregoryisgodistan Bat Slaves by one and once again losing to the Eduardastan Narwhals by two."

Figueroa: "In the first game, Casey Marshall was dominant, allowing 2 runs in 7 innings on 6 hits, one walk, and one hit-batsman. The offense scored four in the first which turned out to be all they needed."

Ramos: "In the second game, our Wolfpack fought hard, and Allen Marsh came out after allowing 3 runs through 6 innings and he was in-line for the win. But the bullpen gave up 3 and we took a heartbreaking extra-inning loss. If we would have won the second game, we would have taken first place in the division and a more favorable seed. But instead, we took second, still qualifying, but getting a 5 seed."

RL: "Thanks men, now we'll-"

TF: "Switch it up a bit! Rafa and I will do the highlights. I'll take the first game and you take the second, is that alright, Rafa?"

RR: "Sure, fine with me."

TF: "Alright. First inning, after a Katsu double, a Campos single, and a Martinez walk, Andre Harding steps up against Gregoryisgodistan's pitcher, Soldier Usual So."

RL: "Uh, I think you mean Soldier USU-"

TF: "I got this, Rebecca! So, Usual So pitches to-"

RL: "Again, I think you meant Soldier U-"

TF: "Rebecca! I'm doing this right! Stop butting in! Don't you trust me? Anyway, as I was saying, Usual So pitches it to Andre Harding, and gets the count to 1-2. Then, he makes a mistake and pitches a fastball right down the middle. Harding takes advantage of it and pounds it deep to left for a grand slam. 4-0 Wolfpack.

"Then, in the third, Military General Rufus McGee puts a charge in to one against Casey Marshall, and it clears the right-field fence for a home run. 4-1 Wolfpack.

"Then, with Soldier J Sia Isk S on first and two outs, Lumberjack J Sue Si 99387 hits a ball into left field. It rattles around in the corner and J Sia Isk S scores. J Sue Si 99387 tries to stretch it into a triple but is gunned down by Andre Harding. 4-2 Wolfpack.

RL: "I'm pretty sure it's Soldier JSIA-"

TF: "Rebecca! Didn't I tell you to stop?

*Rebecca leaves the room*

TF: "Finally! She's gone! Anyway, we fast-forward into the ninth inning, where Lumberjack J Sue Si 99387 and Military General Rupert McGee are on third and second, respectively, with Military General Rufus McGee at the plate with two outs. Closer Gabe Hansen on the bump. Rufus hits a single into center, and Rupert scores. J Sue Si is rounding third and Katsu comes up throwing. The throw just barely beats J Sue Si and Stanton applies the tag and the Wolfpack wins it, 4-3."

RR: "And now, the Eduardastan game.

"Allen Marsh on the bump for the Wolfpack, and on his first pitch, he serves up a home run to the shortstop. 1-0 Narwhals.

"Later in the inning, men on second and third for the Narwhals, and the left fielder hits a ball off the wall, which scores two runs. However, their left fielder is slow and was thrown out on his way to second base to end the inning. 3-0 Narwhals, and all hope seems lost."

"With the bases loaded and one out, Katsunori Matsuoka bunts the ball. The catcher picks it up and attempts to tag Stanton coming home, but he slides with such force that the ball is knocked out of the catcher's glove. It rolls about 6 feet, allowing Stanton to score. Cabrera has rounded third a little too much for the catcher's comfort, so he throws to the third baseman, but of course, airmails it into left field. Cabrera scores, Richardson scores, and the catcher can't catch the throw home from the left fielder, allowing Matsuoka to score. An odd scoring on the play, E2, E2, E2, which could've all been avoided if the catcher had just stepped on the plate. 4-3 Wolfpack.

"In the ninth, Hansen on the mound, looking for his second save of the day. 1-2, two outs on the shortstop, nobody on base. But he hits a home run over the left field fence, tying the game."

"Hansen would stay on in the tenth. He would walk the first batter and then the first baseman would come to the plate. He put a charge into it and it left the yard. 6-4 Narwhals is your final.

"That's our show, tune in next time to see if Rebecca ever comes back!"

--

"Well, that was a fun meeting."

"There was a meeting?"

"Yeah, it wasn't for you though. It was a meeting between me and our scouting teams."

"Oh. And that was fun?"

"Oh yeah! You should've been there. There was a DJ, and cake, and a dance floor, and it was a great time."

"And this was a meeting?"

"Well, technically it was an after-meeting."

"Why don't we ever have after-meetings?"

"Uh... it was... uh... the scouting team's idea! Yeah, that's it!"

"And you payed for it?"

"Uh... of course not! The scouting team did!"

"Oh, alrighty then. That seems perfectly normal."

"It was, it was."

"Ok. So why did you have this meeting?"

"To get the lowdown on the playoffs, of course! We took half the scouting team with us to Super-Llamaland and we left half back home so that we could scout all the teams and be prepared for the playoffs."

"Wow! That's a smart idea!"

"Thanks."

"So what did you find out?"

"Well, we got specific things about Red Star Union's team that will help us beat them in this series, hands down. But we also got their predictions for the playoffs!"

"Really? What were they?"

"Let's see... The Super-Llamaland Tigers and Nova Anglicana would play a tough series, as they went 1-1 in group play against each other. They went with the underdog Nova Anglicana pulling it off in a hotly contested series."

"Hmm... interesting. I wouldn't have picked that. What else?"

"They said that the Bat Slaves from Gregoryisgodistan have been dominant, and they expect them to sweep the Dohickeys of Levivania."

"No surprise there."

"The Sova Empire's intelligent emotions are expected to sweep the fireballs of Smoya."

"Surprise, surprise."

"And our Wolfpack will take down the Red Demons in three games."

"Alrighty. What will our rotation look like?"

"We're picking up where we left off. Jacobson is starting game one."

"Even with the days of rest?"

"Absolutely."

"Alright. We better win this."

"Agreed."

"Come on you Wolfpack!"

"LET'S GO NEW WOLFOPOLIS!"

Sports Chief Rufus Markel announced that Soldier USUALSO will start Game 1 of the series against Levivania. Pervert Chaser NAUSJW will start game 2, and Slavecatcher 948313 will start game 3.

Random Trivia of the Day

Some people have wondered what a Pervert Chaser does. Well, any time anyone commits a sexual-related crime like nudity, indecent exposure, mooning, stripping, rape, molestation, or anything else, a Pervert Chaser chases the offender down and cuts off his private organs, then turns him over to the police to be charged with and convicted of whatever crime he committed. Most sexual related crimes are punishable by death, however certain ones like talking about private parts are only punishable by slave labor - two years for genitalia and one year for the buttocks, per word. But first you get your privates cut off by a pervert chaser.

OFFICIAL REPORT from the SUPER LLAMALAND NATIONAL DIPLOMACY DEPARTMENT

The Super-Llamaland National Diplomacy Department has publicly condemned the nation of Gregoryisgodistan by a vote amongst the eighty chair members of fifty-one for to twenty-nine against for the charge of human torture by the Gregoryisgodistan job of "Pervert Chaser". This job seems unneeded and despicable towards the Gregoryisgodistan public.

In a vote of which degree Gregoryisgodistan was to be condemned, ten of the fifty-one voted for the infamous "Platinum Condemnation", which no nation has ever received. Six voted for the Gold Condemnation, and the majority vote of thirty-two picked the Bronze Condemnation. The rest chose the Silver Condemnation.

This is Gregoryisgodistan's first condemnation by the Diplomacy Department.

The repercussions shall not be overly done towards Gregoryisgodistan, a notable player in the Super-Llamaland-hosted International Baseball Slam. The Bronze Condemnation is a simple warning to suggest stopping the aforementioned behavior.

Regardless of the outcome of the consolation group we're proud of our team and know they have learned a lot at the Slam that will help them to improve in future tournaments. We would like to thank the hosts for a fine event.

As a result of interest generated from Girafistan's participation in the tournament the city of Southport has announced plans to build an amateur baseball complex to help develop future stars of the game.

"So, it's over, isn't it?"

"For four not-so-lucky nations, yes."

"I was rooting for those Mighty Chickadees."

"Yes, they were a very rootable team...oh wait. WHY ARE WE TRYING TO DO THESE AGAIN?!?!"

"There's no game summary, so..."

"Well, think of something!"

"Okay, how about this clip?"

"Sure. Anything but these stupid two-part status quo dialogues."

"Going a bit strong there...click, click, click and here we go."

BZZT....SHZTBZT...BZBZBZT...

"Hello and Welcome to Baseball Weekly with me, Sanfred Winnilever!"

"Sanfred Winnilever? What kind of a name is that?"

"Today, a recap of the Super-Llamaland International Baseball Slam Group Stage!"

"The tournament began well, as the Tigers won 3-1 over the Red Star Union. Evan Masorka sustained a minor injury but still got the win over six innings of work."
"Then, Ryan Lucas mastered the Lions in a 6-2 victory. That's the Nova Anglicana Lions. Lucas threw a 140-plus pitch complete game."

"I was at that game! So were you!"
"That was fun. Lucas's curveball was on."

"Then, we beat Sangti 6-2 as well, which was followed by a intense extra-inning thriller against the Red Star Union Red Demons. In eleven innings, we prevailed 4-3. Nova Anglicana beat Rick Jackson up for seven runs in a 7-0 defeat that snapped the win streak, but we finished strong with a 5-0 win over Sangti."

"Mm. Good clip."

"Sanfred Winnilever signing out."

"Sanfred Winnilever...that's funny."

Lions to Play Tigers Instead in Rematch of Group Stage

Allen Talos, Londinium Courier

So, due to an information mixup, the original standings that were released and on which I based my column were incorrect. We are now the 8th seed and get a matchup with #1 seed Super-Llamaland. While this does prevent me from starting an international crisis by criticizing the barbaric practices of that two-bit, half-wit, potato chip dictator known as Gregory, it also puts us in a more difficult matchup. Thankfully, the consolation bracket break gave manager Graig Lowman the opportunity to line up his first three starters for this all-important best-of-3 quarterfinals series. This also has the benefit of giving Felix Murphy extra rest. I should also mention that if there is a game 3, it will be started by Clark Boone, as Lowman has shunted game 3 starter Noah Hawkins to the bullpen, where he will function as a long reliever/extra lefty. In my opinion, this is a good move, as Hawkins was mediocre in the WBC and was hit hard in his first start in the IBS, while Boone was effective in his WBC work.

The Lions did split their group stage matchups with the Tigers, but their only win, 7-0, came after Super-Llamaland had essentially already qualified, and they started their #5 starter. It remains to be seen how our boys will fair against top Tigers pitching. The good news is, the offense has woken up in the recent three-game winning streak, scoring an average of six runs per contest. We'll have to get good production from the stars, and solid performances from the bullpen and the defense to get through. My personal opinion? Take the Tigers in three, but don't be surprised if our boys sneak through.

Editor's Note: The views expressed in this column are solely the views of the writer and not necessarily those of the Londinium Courier or the government of Nova Anglicana.

As both nations have RPed and the forums are going down in about 10 minutes or so, I don't think anyone will object to me giving an early RP cutoff to Super-Llamaland and Nova Anglicana.

Nova Anglicana Lions 5, Llamaland Tigers 4 (F/11)
NOV leads series, 1-0

Tomorrow's cutoff will be around 2:00 GMT.

The Levivania team was very happy. They made it to the tournament. They were ranked 7th and would go against the Bat Slaves. They had lost before against them, but Levivania was practicing really hard. Yesterday, captain Levi Goldman's mother had died of cancer. Levi was really sad he spent the whole day in his room crying. His mother was one of the best mothers there was. The team looked good. Elvis Hernandez would be the starter. He was their best pitcher and had to win tonight's game. The evening practice before the game Levi showed up. He didn't say anything he was deathly silent. In practice he played with a silent ferocity. He hit two home runs and his team in scrimmage won 3-0. He went on a 6 mile run through the city and was barley tired. Levi needed to win this game. For his mother.

Gregoryisgodistan Sports Report

Bat Slaves Shocked in IBS QF, trail 1-0

SHOCKER in the IBS as Gregoryisgodistan was upset by Levivania, 5-4 today. The underdogs picked up their first three runs in the top of the fourth, as Chip Bukcton homered to left off of Soldier USUALSO. But the Bat Slaves fought back, picking up a run in the bottom of the inning, as Shirtmaker 9DHUAS singled home Military General Rufus McGee from third. In the bottom of the sixth, the Bat Slaves picked up two more, on a double by Soldier JSIAISKS, to tie the game, and there was still only one out. Barber LIEUIUSH was then intentionally walked to bring up Lumberjack JSUUSI99387, but he hit into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.

In the top of the 8th, with Toiletmaker LAO9183 pitching and two outs, Fabio Zletz doubled to right field, and the Bat Slaves called to the bullpen, bringing in Executioner HUD8S, who Sports Chief Rufus Markel said would pitch out of the bullpen in the knockout stage due to the schedule arrangement. Executioner HUD8S then got two strikes on Johhny Swinger, before Swinger hit it deep to center field. Executioner 9D8AH appeared to be under it, but a fan reached over and grabbed the ball. The umpires ruled it a home run to make it 5-3. Executioner 9D8AH started screaming at the umpire in protest of the call, and was ejected. Sports Chief Rufus Markel came out of the dugout, and he was tossed too. When everything cleared, Military Supergeneral Dominick Brockston came in to play center, and Bench Coach Assistant Sports Chief Carlos Markel took over as acting manager. Executioner HUD8S stayed in the game to get the third out.

The Bat Slaves could not score in the bottom of the 8th, but did manage one in the bottom of the 9th, as Doctor WAITOKALE had a pinch hit sacrifice fly batting for Military Supergeneral Dominick Brockston. Shirtmaker 9DHUAS doubled with two outs, bringing up Construction Worker XUAHAUAH with the tying run in scoring position. He looped it into center field, and Shirtmaker 9DHUAS rounded third and tried to score. Chip Bukcton threw home, and Ben Ballmer got the tag down, and the ump called Shirtmaker 9DHUAS out to end the ballgame. Shirtmaker 9DHUAS did not like the call and started screaming at the ump, who promptly ejected him even though the game was over, then walked off the field. Shirtmaker 9DHUAS did have a point according to replays, which seemed to indicate he touched home plate before being tagged.

So two awful calls cost Gregoryisgodistan game 1. They should have won. It's all the umps' fault.

The Bat Slaves now must win two straight to advance, and will have to win the first game without their manager, who was suspended for one game. The bench coach will be acting manager. Executioner 9D8AH was fined 1,000 Universal Standard Dollars (Roughly 27,000 Greggygodbucks) and Shirtmaker 9DHUAS was fined 200 USD (Roughly 5,400 Greggygodbucks) but neither will be suspended.

After the game, Shirtmaker 9DHUAS complained that the home plate umpire, Paulus Santivera of Saintland, was biased against him and his team for religious reasons. "Those heritics in Saintland always hate our glorious nation for accepting the true Lord, Lord Almighty Gregory," Shirtmaker 9DHUAS told the assembled press. "It is unfair that he is taking his religious fervor out on the baseball diamond."

Executioner 9D8AH speculated that the second base ump who failed to call interference, [Redacted for Blasphemy] Robertson of Sova Empire, was biased as well, because he didn't want his home nation to face the defending champs in the semifinals. "We beat them last time around in the finals, it's clear Sova Empire doesn't want to face us again. Robertson (to speak his first name is blasphemy) clearly does not want us to advance, lest we beat his home country again. He was doing his patriotic duty, and unfortunately that meant blowing calls."

CloseCallBaseball.com

(OOC: The description above is from Gregoryisgodistan's State Press, and may not be unbiased in terms of reporting on the accuracy of umpires. This, however, is a neutral and international website run by former umpires and it should be considered accurate IC-ly even if it contradicts the above. Assume, however, that everyone in Gregoryisgodistan believes the state press.)

Game Report for IBS Quarterfinal Game 1, Levivania vs. Gregoryisgodistan

In the top of the 8th, second base ump Greg Robertson (Sova Empire) called a home run for Johhny Swinger of Levivania, but Executioner 9D8AH, the Gregoryisgodistan center fielder, disputed the call, saying there was fan interference and Swinger should have been called out, and was ejected. Gregoryisgodistan manager Sports Chief Rufus Markel was also ejected by Robertson for arguing the call. Replays indicated a fan did interfere, and Executioner 9D8AH would easily have caught it otherwise, the call was incorrect.

Robertson now has -8 points in the IBS Umpire Ejection Fantasy League (IUEFL), 0 - 4 (incorrect) - 4 (incorrect) = -8.
Crew Chief Paulus Santivera of Saintland now has 0 points in the IUEFL, 0+0 (incorrect) + 0 (incorrect) = 0.

In the bottom of the 9th, Shirtmaker 9DHUAS of Gregoryisgodistan was ejected by Santivera for arguing a game ending out call at home plate. Replays showed that the catcher tagged Shirtmaker 9DHUAS before his hand touched the plate, the call was correct.

Umpire Santivera now has 4 points in the IUEFL, 0+4 (correct)=4.

Crew Chief Paulus Santivera now has 1 point in the IUEFL in the crew chief category, 0+1 (correct)=1.

"Well that was crappy."

"Yeah no kidding."

"How did we end up winning that game?"

"I don't know."

"I mean Jacobson did pretty well, no runs on two hits through 7."

"Yeah, that's true."

"But the offense sucked!"

"Also true."

"And so did the bullpen! Well, really Jaime."

"Yeah."

"But I'm dead serious. How did we win that game?"

"You seriously don't know?"

"Nope. No clue. I can't think of any possible way that we would have won that game and played so crappily."

"Well, in the eighth inning, we had bases loaded, two outs, with Martinez at the plate."

"Sure, sure."

"Darwin on third, Katsu on second, Campos on first."

"Alright."

"And Martinez hits a ground ball to second. Sure to be an out."

"Alright."

"The second baseman, however, tripped on something during his throw, and he airmailed the first baseman."

"Ok. So Darwin scores, right?"

"Yup, and Katsu goes for it too. The right fielder had come up with it but his throw doesn't beat Katsu."

"Ok."

"But at this point, Martinez, kinda slow, looked like he might be beatable at second."

"So the catcher airmails it."

"No, interestingly, the throw was right on the money. But on the throw, Campos takes off. The throw doesn't beat Martinez and the shortstop throws home to get Campos."

"Ok."

"But, his throw is wide to the left of the catcher. It goes to the backstop, Campos scores."

"Martinez to third?"

"Well, the pitcher was now backing up the catcher, so Campos was able to score, but Martinez was gunned down at third."

"Wow. Well we better play better next game if we want to advance."

"You know it."

"So come on you Wolfpack!"

Before the game against Levivania, Lord Almighty Gregory spoke to his team.

"Come on boys, we're down 1-0, but we can handle that. We just need to win two straight. We can do it, I believe in you. I am the Lord Your God, I know you can play well. Go out there, and show them what we're made of. Show them the true power of the Lord! Make me proud of you. Make you proud of you. Remember the Gregoryisgodistani supremacy. Avenge my near assassination at the hands of Saintland and Free Republics. Be glad you don't have to play those horrible nations. We shall prevail over them in the end too.

"In the end, what happens on the diamond means a lot. But we must also remember the brave servicemen and women who destroyed Saintland and Free Republics today as revenge for trying to kill me. And we must remember not to believe the lies the foreign press spews. You know what I mean. I am the Lord Your God. My Word is Truth!

"Let's go out there and beat the Levivanians. Pervert Chaser NAUSJW, go out there and pitch well in front of the Super-Llama Land crowd to show them that your job is truly noble. They may have condemned us because you do the Lord's work, but WE KNOW BETTER. You are doing the Lord's work as a pervert chaser, now go out there and do the Lord's Work on the mound too. I shall greatly appreciate it if you do.

"Executioner 9D8AH, you fought the umpire bravely yesterday, and for that I shall repay you for the money you paid as a fine. The same holds true for Shirtmaker 9DHUAS. Sports Chief Rufus Markel, you were not fined in addition to your suspension. The federation is not supposed to pay you, but we shall instead pay you double as a reward for your bravery in standing up to that idiot ump. We shall prevail!

"It's now time to play ball. Go out there and win one for the team. Now, let me introduce you to a chant that I invented myself. It is my gift to you.

NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA BAT SLAVES! NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA BAT SLAVES! BAT SLAVES! BAT SLAVES! BAT SLAVES!"

(OOC: Yes, it's supposed to be to the tune of the Batman theme, I hope I got the number of na's right. Also, Lord Almighty Gregory didn't invent the tune IC-ly, he's just claiming to.)

The team applauded after hearing this chant, and chanted it repeatedly throughout the game, thus annoying and distracting their opposition. It worked. Pervert Chaser NAUSJW allowed 1 run in 7 innings, Soldier JSIAISKS hit a three run home run, Construction Worker XUAHAUAH had a two run double, and the Bat Slaves won 6-2. They play a deciding game 3 tomorrow.

Nova Anglicana Lions 5, Llamaland Tigers 4 (F/11)
Llamaland Tigers 2, Nova Anglicana Lions 3

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall
All the king's horses and all the king's men
Could not put him together again

Nowhere in that four-line nursery rhyme does it say that Humpty Dumpty was an egg. Perhaps he was a baseball pitcher. Maybe he's the Tigers bullpen.

The bullpen shattered. It was demolished by nothing. But just take a look at these box scores!

Lucas: 5.2 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 3 K/2 BB
Mendello: 0.1 IP, 1 ER, 0 H, 0 K/3 BB
Raymond: 2 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 3 K/0 BB
Daye (L): 1.1 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 K/1 BB
BULLPEN: 3.2 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 4 K/4 BB

and...

Davis: 7.2 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 12 K/2 BB
Bowden (BSV): 0.2 IP, 2 ER, 2 H, 2 K/1 BB
Irving (L): 0.1 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 0 K/0 BB
BULLPEN: 1 IP, 3 ER, 3 H, 2 K/1 BB

TOTAL BULLPEN: 4.2 IP, 5 ER, 11 H, 6 K/5 BB, 0 Wins, 2 Losses, 1 Blown Save

The results speak for themselves. A bloated ERA and the fact that the Tigers, rather than playing against New Wolfopolis for a finals berth, are eliminated.

So, end-of-tournament grades for everybody who played in at least two games! (one for pitchers)

A
C Bryant Moreno
SS Darren Bradley
OF Trevor Matthews
SP Evan Masorka
RP Aaron Raymond
2B Max Danks

A bunch of solid players who had good IBS IIIs. Moreno is hitting .417 with 3 HR and 11 RBI, which is always great for an eight-hole hitter. He did go 0-for-3 in the elimination game, though, so that subtracts a plus from his "A++++++". Matthews seems like a good building block too.

B
SP Leo Davis
CF Brett Rochester
RF Chris Harder
LF Jake Addams
1B Danny Mills
DH Keith Dawson
RP Robby Irving

Another solid crop. Davis was pushing "A" territory but reportedly asked out in the eighth inning. That alone bumps him down to a B. Dawson hit .357, which was actually a tie for second on the team, the difference being his fourteen at-bats to Rochester's twenty-eight.

C
CP Nick Bowden
SP Ryan Lucas
RP David Mendello
3B Alex Cameron

Mostly high-profile guys who weren't as good as we hoped. Cameron hit .360 in WBCs 23 and 24, .450 in 25 and 26, .375 in the first two Slams, and a grand total of .240 in WBC27 and IBS III. Which one of these is not like the others?

D
SP RIck Jackson

A bad start and a relief appearance puts the "D" in "Jackson[d]".

Joe McKenzie: B-: A pretty decent tournament.

Lions Surprisingly Sweep Series; In Semifinals, Will Face Familiar Foe

Allen Talos, Londinium Courier

You read that headline right, folks. Your 8th seeded Lions are now on a five-game winning streak after sweeping #1 seed Super-Llamaland, the co-hosts of this tournament. I'm sure very few people expected the Lions to advance, let alone sweep. But it was the struggles of the Tiger bullpen that undid them. In the first game, the Tigers conceded the go-ahead run on three consecutive walks by reliever David Mendello. Unfortunately, Lions closer Eddie Cavazos gave that run back in the bottom of the ninth by allowing a solo home run to tie the game. However, back-to-back doubles in the 11th ended up giving the Lions the lead, and steady reliever Al Fowler set the Tigers down 1-2-3 in the bottom half to seal the victory. Ace Elmer Sutton gave up three runs in seven innings, pitching fairly well, and the offense picked up 12 hits, six against the shaky bullpen.

In game 2, Felix Murphy tossed seven innings of two-run ball, but was outdone by the Tigers' Leo Davis, who had bamboozled the Lions in the second of the group-stage matchups. Davis had not allowed any runs, but asked out of the game with two outs in the eighth due to arm fatigue. Closer Nick Bowden came on and got the final out of the eighth after walking a batter, but gave up a single and a double in the ninth while only recording one out, and was relieved by Robby Irving. Irving was brought in to face Brice Napier, who rocketed a line-drive shot about a foot above the 325 sign in left field, giving the Lions a walk-off three-run homer and earning him both a place at the bottom of the dog pile and a shaving-cream pie to the face during the postgame.

As for our semifinal foe, it's our old friends, the New Wolfopolis Wolfpack, the #5 seed. They swept #4 seed Red Star Union in convincing fashion, setting up a rematch of the most recent WBC round of 24, where the Lions took a tightly contested series two games to one. It should be a very good series, as New Wolfopolis dealt Gregoryisgodistan their only two losses of the group stage. Due to the off day, Elmer Sutton is slated to start in an if-necessary Game 3, with Kip Fischer and Justin Garcia to start the first two games. With Clark Boone having been rested up for a possible Game 3 in the Super-Llamaland series, it is likely that manager Graig Lowman will have a quick hook if Fischer or Garcia struggle early, as Boone will have plenty of stamina. Noah Hawkins is also likely to be available in a multiple-inning role, but only if the game is a blowout or he is the last resort. The Lions showed a knack for winning close games in this series. I look forward to the cultivation of this rivalry, but I'll have to take the Lions in this one, two games to one.

"We won again."

"Yeah, because we played better."

"True, true."

"Those commies never stood a chance!"

"Woah, let's not get ahead of ourselves. They played a great series, we just beat them out."

"That's true."

"Seven runs! Why can't we do that every game?"

"Because pitchers and game condition and player's feelings and your whims vary from game to game."

"Shut up, I was trying to make a point."

"Sorry, boss."

"It's all good."

"So, Andre had a good game today."

"No kidding. Two home runs. 5 RBI."

"And the pitching staff. 2 runs off of Lindsay in his 8 innings, that's pretty good."

"Yup."

"But we should be focusing on the games ahead."

"Wait-- you're not? I have been, for a while now."

"Alright, well who're we looking at?"

"You're not going to believe this."

"Llamaland?"

"No, they got knocked out by the team we're playing. Nova Anglicana."

"Oh God, not them again."

"Yup. Them again."

"They already knocked us out of WBC, isn't that enough?"

"Apparently not. I don't know, I don't make the rules."

"Ok. Well how are we going to beat them?"

"I have a secret plan worked up. We will win."

"They already beat the number one team! And us! How in the world will we ever win?"

"Don't worry, it's under control."

"If you say so, boss."

"Our Wolfpack will need every ounce of their skill and a touch of luck, though."

"Well, we both know what that means."

"Come on you Wolfpack!"

"BEAT NOVA ANGLICANA!"

"Hmm?"

"I mean, uh, LET'S GO NEW WOLFOPOLIS!"

NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA BAT SLAVES! NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA BAT SLAVES! BAT SLAVES! BAT SLAVES! BAT SLAVES!

"Hello, I'm Sportscaster LLZAAI81, bringing you coverage of today's International Baseball Slam deciding game between Gregoryisgodistan and Levivania. On the hill for the Bat Slaves is Slavecatcher 948313, and we're ready for baseball.

"We are in the bottom of the third now, still scoreless, and leading off the inning for the Bat Slaves is Military General Rufus McGee. He hits it on the ground to short, Goldman fields, throws, in time 1 down. That was the 16th out, presented by 1-800-SLAVEBUY, where you can rent a slave over the phone for just 16 greggygodbucks a day. Call 1-800-SLAVEBUY now to get started.

"Stepping up with one away is Executioner 9D8AH, and he lines the 2-1 pitch into center for a base hit. He is aboard and the Bat Slaves have a man on and one out. Here comes Shirtmaker 9DHUAS, and he hits the 1-1 on the ground to short. Goldman fields, throws to second but it misses Olinsky and goes into center field, Military General Rufus McGee is now getting up and trying for third, they might have him, he's caught and stops, but rather than tag him, Zletz is going to throw to second where they have Executioner 9D8AH caught, he has to head back to first now and the throw to first goes over the first baseman's head and into the bleachers. Executioner 9D8AH will score, and Shirtmaker 9DHUAS will be awarded third base. The manager of Levivania is arguing he should only be awarded second base, but he will lose that argument. He heads back to the dugout, here comes Construction Worker XUAHAUAH. Hit in the air to center, this should get the run home, it's caught for out number two but a run will score and it's 2-0. Boos now coming from the Levivania fans who feel the runner should not have been on third when that play started.

"We're in the bottom of the 6th now, man on second and two outs, here is Construction Worker XUAHAUAH. He swings and hits it deep to left, and GONE, for a home run. 4-0 Bat Slaves. What a shot, well out of here.

"Top 9, and the Bat Slaves have gone to the bullpen. This call to the bullpen is sponsored by Government Issued Mandatory Communication, Tracking, and Identity Devices. In comes Toiletmaker LAO9183 to face Goorman, and that is deep to right and gone, for a home run. 4-1. Sports Chief Rufus Markel is coming out right away, they'll go to the bullpen again, in comes Chef SHSUUAISSADF, the closer.

"Goldman steps in and pops it up to second. Shirtmaker 9DHUAS makes the catch, one down. Ben Ballmer batting, 0-2, and the pitch, swung on and missed. Bat Slaves are one strike away from a semifinal berth against Smoya, who beat Sova Emprie earlier today in a stunner, to win the series. And the 0-2 to Robinson, called strike three. That will do it, Bat Slaves to the semifinals!

CloseCallBaseball.com
This is case play #2 for the International Baseball Slam (OOC: Assume case play #1 did not involve Gregoryisgodistan, so I did not post it)

Watch the video on the right from the Gregoryisgodistan-Levivania game (video shows the rundown involving Executioner 9D8AH and Shirtmaker 9DHUAS). The umpire ruled that Executioner 9D8AH, who was on first when the play started, but was standing on third when the second baseman released the ball and when it left the field of play, should advance from third to score. They also awarded Shirtmaker 9DHUAS third base, he was in between first and second when the second baseman released the ball, but was on first by the time the ball left the field of play. The Levivania manager argued the call but it was upheld. You have two questions, each worth two points in the IBS Umpire Ejections Fantasy League. You will get one point for correctly answering the question and one point for correctly citing the rule(s).

1) Was the call on the field as the play actually happened correct?
2) Suppose Shirtmaker 9DHUAS was still in between first and second when the ball left the field of play. How, if at all, would this have changed the correct ruling?

OOC: If anyone wants to telegram me their answers (use major league baseball rules) if you get points, I will give a fictional username from your nation participating in the IUEFL credit in a future RP (you can choose the username). This applies even if you're not participating in this tournament and are just lurking. If I don't get enough, I will make people up.

"Yeah, New Wolfopolis is a good team."
"No, that's not what I meant! It's--organized!"

MATCHDAY 1
The Red Star Union 3, Super-Llamaland 6
Levivania 1, The Sova Empire 2

5-8 Standings

Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Super-Llamaland 1 1 0 0 6 3 +3 3
2 The Sova Empire 1 1 0 0 2 1 +1 3
3 Levivania 1 0 0 1 1 2 -1 0
4 The Red Star Union 1 0 0 1 3 6 -3 0

A fed-up Evan Masorka stepped onto the mound for the first day of the round robin that would determine fifth-through-eighth.

He was fed-up because his first-place Llamaland Tigers had been swept in the quarterfinals. An understandable reaction, as the underdog Nova Anglicana Lions were now running around in the semifinal warmups while his Tigers could win fifth place...at best.

Now, he was pitching against the Red Star Union.

"Here's Masorka stomping around on the mound...fires a fastball...my god, that was 104 MPH! He must be really mad today!"
" Strike right down the middle, but at 104, what can you do?"
"...Wow. Here's a bullet for strike two, he's at 103. Maz has to calm down if he wants to last ninety pitches today."
"Leg kick, pump and delivery. Strike three! A beautiful slider and that's out numero uno!"
***
"Masorka back on the mound in the top of the second, runners on the corners, two down. Tigers lead two-zip on a two-run shot by Chris Harder in the first."
"The pitch. Line drive, deep right...foul. Whew."
"Oh-and-one, here we go. Masorka...ball one. Wait, we're getting the radar reading."
"HOLY..."
"Jim! Loyal fans under twelve are undoubtedly listening!"
"Sorry, Clyde. Just...I gotta look this up."
"Strike TWO, a slider."
"And Evan Masorka has just thrown the fastest pitch by a Super-LLamaland pitcher since 1985! 105.6 MPH!"
"Only topped by 'Doctor' Andrew Perkins on July 8, 1985! Wow!"
"Old Andrew Perkins hit 106.2 on the radar gun in an Oceanside Cup match versus our rival of Evil Llamas! A 4-2 victory there!"
"Swing and a miss, strike three, inning over! Masorka hits 105! Tigers lead two-zip!"
***
"Masorka is slowing down."
"You are correct there!"
"Top of the fourth, Tigers lead 4-1, bases juiced, one out. Masorka has eight K's today but there is NO way he can keep it up."
"Swing and a miss, strike three, that heater only ninety-two."
"Ha! "only" ninety-two."
"Yes, only ninety-two, but two down now."
"The pitch-that's gonna be a base hit to right! A run scores...two runs score! 4-3!"
