Introduction to the 2035 Season
The Campionato, which saw a young and very domestically-based squad grab an unexpected semi-final over a stunned Apoxian formation, has just come and gone and the next season of the Top Division is already in its starting blocks. Entering the second year of the new era, no major upheaval has occurred with once again fourteen teams taking the start of the competition in the highest tier.
The important change takes place at the second tier, where twelve clubs join the present ones to form three leagues with each sixteen participants. Doing so, the base of Buyanese football should be solidified with some squads rejoining after an absence due to the ‘Dark Ages’ and others forming brand-new clubs to grace the pitches of professional football. Either way, it will give a new vibe to the competitions, especially as there is more at stake than simply a spot in the Promotion Play-Offs and the SBCC. The top 5 assures itself of a ticket to a new Start Division which will make the Buyanese football pyramid three-tiered again.
Nonetheless, the most important adaptation, or should we say return to the previous times, lies in the participation to the UICA competitions where the Buyanese sides will make a long-awaited reappearance. Renowned names such as Bengtsmark IF and Viztourzys Kolektyvinis hope to make waves, even if their reputation is rather built on tradition than expected quality these days. The ambition of Tjelberg and Pajukas is no less and it is exciting to see Druzhna and Ciegnalki make their debut in the SBCC next to ‘veteran’ Haljo Vannarby.
What will certainly do as much - or even more - to the level of the Top Division is the return of international players. As could be expected it were the clubs of ‘international level’ who lead the way with the splurges of Pajukas and Viztourzys catching most of the attention, but over a baker’s dozen of players were attracted to all sorts of top tier clubs. That it were the UICA participants who had the biggest pockets is no surprise - the sum for the ‘international tv contract’ exceeded the expectations whilst the domestic competition is still stuck with last year’s deal for 2035.
Top Division Teams 2035
Bengtsmark IF
Home Stadium: Havssidanstadion (22.000 seats) in Bengtsmark, Mullsphall (455.000 inhabitants)
Manager: Derrik Markushovn (69)
”We are on top now but to stay there presents
a whole new challenge.” – Derrik Markushovn
Starting XI: Steed Corren (33 - NPH) *** Aado Luik (34), Ludvig Sandstrom (25), Viggo Stromberg (22), Olli Grilianen (31) *** Loke Astrom (30), Donat Chmiel (22) *** Carl Nyberg (20), Valter Isaksson (28), Sigge Malmsten (31 - Capt) *** Emil Eklund (25)
Bench: Oskar Holm (20 - GK), Mans Norling (20 - GK), Lucas Lind (28 - CD), Svante Svenson (17 - LD), Theodor Jonsson (21 - DM), Klas Kinlund (25 - CM), Arvid Sjoberg (24 - AM), Albin Holm (18 - CA), Per Olfen (28 - RA), Jannick Brems (31 - LA)
Transfers In: Steed Corren (3.2 mil - North Laithland (NPH)), Donat Chmiel (2.7 mil - Gornik Wladica), Jannick Brems (1 mil - Tillsamman Stensund), Klas Kinlund (0.7 mil - Haljo Vannarby), Mans Norling (0.3 mil - Tillsamman Stensund), Svante Svensson (youth product)
Transfers Out: Erik Andersson (0.8 mil - Welanduz Vadshult), Sigge Palsson (0.8 mil - Druzhna Rovers), Erik Forsberg (0.5 mil - Garbarnia Hoyersko)
Overview: It seems bizarre that we’re trying to find reasons not to declare the Yellows as the number one favourite to prolong their title - and we must say we found very few. The troops of Markushovn struggled throughout the summer last year but in the final stretch, they showed their true colours and dashed up, over and away from the field. The success was based on a powerful axis of young, homegrown players who have broke into the national team as well, where they claim the same roles. The incredibly mature defender Viggo Stromberg, the genius combined with physical prowess of Valter Isaksson, the goal-oriented power of Emil Eklund, … It all places this squad on a higher level.
On top of all that, the transfer window allowed the gaffer to reinforce that backbone. Erik Andersson, not always deservedly, has been seen as the weakest link and saw himself replaced with the experienced, reliable Nepharim shotstopper Steed Corren. On the number six position, Markushovn invested in the youth with Donat Chmiel, who adds grinta and enthusiasm - winning the bidding war over a highly requested profile with an impeccable attitude. That wasn’t where the festival ended for the Bengtsmark fans as the hard-working Brems was added to the already abundant attacking options: in any other team, the stylish Olfen or the talented Holm would be a starter. On the away side, a few underperformers were shipped off to a lower level, so with a strong team gotten better, employing a tried and tested tactical plan, all seems in place for a new title and a deep UICA run.
Unfortunately, with that notion we touch the Achilles’ heel of the squad. Derrik Markushovn stated, being his ambitious self, that they want at least the Globe Cup group stage but the question is whether the defensive department, an older copy of 2034, will be capable of handling ten to fifteen extra games. The board had kept budget aside to bring in an additional right-back but when the deal with Cosumarite Astrid Sundqvist cracked off in the dying minutes of the transfer window, it became clear that they had all their eggs in one basket. Grilianen and Luik are respected elements in this set-up, but could be in his ‘year too much’, becoming a liability. Related with that issue, there is a sharp contrast between the quality of the defensive bench and the attacking bench - of whom you could wonder whether the discipline by the manager will keep everyone happy. So despite a well-deserved favourite role, they will need to be sharp from start to end to not get pipped by one of the hungry underdogs.
Blau-Weiss Pallstadt
Home Stadium: Unter dem Linden (12.500 seats) in Pallstadt, Trovne (85.000 inhabitants)
Manager: Markus Anderton (37 - NPH)
”Of course this change will ask some adjustment
but I see it as an opportunity for this club.” - Friedrich Riesling
Starting XI: Lex Kirsch (22) *** Esther Austad (20 - NPH), Jorg Trull (30 - Capt), Lowen Rosenthal (18 - NPH), Bastian Felgenhauer (24) *** Reinhard Sachs (21), Stasys Fainsteinas (26), Amber Trahearne (19 - NPH), Aura Keynes (20 - NPH) *** Derrik Schwengel (23), Stefan Hostmann (32)
Bench: Heinrich Lamberts (31 - GK), Friedrich Riesling (34 - RD), Franki Walz (24 - CD), Bert Hoffer (26 - LD), Johan Isselhardt (29 - DM), Oswald Platz (31 - CM), Heino Kruger (26 - LM), Toni Hellermann (19 - RM), Karsten Sweiffer (28 - RA), Bernd Vleugelslag (26 - CA)
Transfers In: Stasys Fainsteinas (0.5 mil - Sparta Torspeda), Toni Hellermann (youth product), Amber Trahearne (loan - AFC Treason (NPH)), Esther Austad (loan - AFC Treason (NPH)), Aura Keynes (loan - AFC Treason (NPH)), Lowen Rosenthal (loan - AFC Treason (NPH)), Bernd Vleugelslag (free - amateur level)
Transfers Out: Leopold Meyr (0.3 mil - Ernesse Stahl), Carl Gossauer (0.25 mil - Garbarnia Hoyersko), Janusz Kozlowski (free - Grephel Gryphionen)
Overview: “This was a necessary step and I am proud that this partnership will reshape Blau-Weiss into a modern and strong club.” For some, the words of Piotr Kluszak, promoted to the Team Director, were all the consolation they needed but a minority of fans vocally protested the overhaul of their team. And indeed, it was a surprise to see AFC Treason, the worldbeaters from Nephara, take interest in a club that has dropped to the depths of the table, mimicking the faith of the national competition itself. For the Stags, it provided a good opportunity to give young talents playing minutes and confidence whilst the Craftsmen desperately needed the injection, both in terms of potential on the pitch and financial assistance.
Especially after last season, when only an impressive run - five goals in three games - from the mysterious Stefan Hostmann kept them in the DIvision. His role as a local hero had already been cemented by a string of goals in the tail-end of the competition, slightly putting Derrik Schwengels form in the opening half in the shadows. Fact is that apart from their pair of strikers, once great Blau-Weiss looked disappointingly shabby and little like a proper Top Division team. Nonetheless, when the four Nepharim additions were presented to the fans, the reactions were mixed, with a lot of whistling heard in the Kop. Likewise, the welcoming of former Treason youth coach Markus Anderton was very cold. The young gaffer will be up for a very difficult challenge, having to mould the dressing room together, adapt the squad to a new diamond 4-4-2 and developing the gifted youngsters given under his control.
Exactly that seems to be the sole reason not to put them up as relegation candidate number one. The Nepharim might lack experience in the Premiership but the classy playmaker in Trahearne, the energetic wing-back called Austad, the creative winger going by Keynes, the natural leader in defence named Rosenthal, … All profiles that were dearly missed last year. It will be a matter of mixing it with what Pallstadt did have to offer, the goal-oriented skills from Hostmann and Schwengel, a short but promising goalie in Lex Kirsch and the hardworking Sachs. A key figure in pasting all those bits and bobs together might be Stasys Fainsteinas, considered abundant at Sparta, as he takes no prisoners; crucial for both Trahearne and Rosenthal to develop their best game. But the one in the centre of attention remains Anderton: can he make a puzzle of all these loose pieces?
Druzhna Rovers
Home Stadium: The Nine (24.000 seats) in Dyatinsk, Urka (185.000 inhabitants)
Manager: Leonid Prukchnik (61)
”We can make a splash.
What else should I say?” – Leonid Prukchnik
Starting XI: Kosta Kavolskas (26) *** Eduard Shulepov (31), Krisztian Herédi (21 - USI), Oleg Kravilov (28), Seppi Kapp (24) *** Sigge Pallson (27), Ingo Herdrich (22), Valeri Bugajenkovs (30), Sergei Pazilov (29 - Capt) *** Adam Rowcowicz (24), Vassili Putsev (19)
Bench: Aleksey Martynuk (21 - GK), Ilya Fomin (24 - LD), Pavel Nych (18 - RD), Dmitriy Zilin (28 - CD), Evgeny Verbov (34 - CM), Yury Parlov (25 - LM), Lojes de Sájajo (16 - RW - FFD), Stepan Bluckins (22 - CA), Aleksander Sakalenkov (29 - LA)
Transfers In: Krisztian Herédi (1.7 mil - Arrowsmith (EUR)), Ingo Herdrich (0.9 mil - Ernesse Stahl), Adam Rowcowicz (0.7 mil - 22. Czerwiec Grozno), Sigge Palsson (0.7 mil - Bengtsmark IF), Seppi Kapp (0.3 mil - Regema Corinthians), Kosta Kavolskas (0.2 mil - Asocijcija Uraugai), Lojes de Sájajo (loan - Viztourzys Kolektyvinis)
Transfers Out: Sergei Gazulov (0.8 mil - Tjelberg Forening)
Overview: Whether an observer welcomes the debut of Druzhna Rovers at the highest level as a refreshing novelty or a small-size disaster for the domestic competition often depends on the view one has on the owner, Pavel Smertin, who made a fortune in the energy sector. Smertin never made a secret of his ambition to create a club from the highest level on the smallest island of the archipelago and at last, it seems that he might be onto something. A next step is in a brand-new stadium which is being built as we speak, so the Rovers will have to rent the much-too-large national arena this year - a small downside which might negatively influence their results.
Last season the Rovers managed to sneak into the play-offs on the ultimate match day before, against everyone’s expectations, sending Ciegnalki and Vannarby back to the second tier. Despite that success, Smertin was well aware that without a serious quality injection, the Rovers were up for a difficult season and decided to invest in a team which no longer looks like cannon fodder. Most of last teams starters migrated to the bench but the linchpin still is Sergei Pazilov, an experienced player and an assurance on assists. At the helm, nothing changed either with the timid yet tactically genius Leonid Prukchnik still in charge - a man with no fear to sacrifice players over the group.
In that group, one no longer finds the talented Gazilov - a shame as he’ll join Tjelberg - but his replacement Kavolskas has quality as well. The biggest reinforcement is Sunrisian Herédi who parts from Arrowsmith in Eura. He receives the unenviable task to organise a defence which comes across as a mixed bag with a lack of pace. The midfield, on the contrary, looks stellar with Sigge Pallson, who played 22 games for champion Bengtsmark last year, the quick Herdrich who was a bargain, Pazilov and the hardworking Bugajenkovs. Goals should come from Rowcowicz and Putsev, but it’s an open question whether they can bring their double figures from the second tier to the Top Division. This might open up chances for Lojes de Sájajo, a Farf loaned from Viztourzys who was described by pundits in preseason as ‘a nugget wrapped in unhoned diamonds’.
Ernesse Stahl
Home Stadium: Das Stadion (11.500 seats) in Ernesse, Felder (110.000 inhabitants)
Manager: Andrey Rettinger (44)
”Of course Ekhard will be missed - for like, a week.
We have plenty of talent to set our mind on” – Andrey Rettinger
Starting XI: Wolke Oppert (26) *** Antek Zych (27), Dietrich Lentzl (31), Timo Bechtel (25) *** Moritz Rothblatt (19), Armin Fincke (29 - Capt), Wulf Waldow (21), Valentin Bolzenstein (29) *** Rolf Jentsche (24), Lutz Kesselbaum (21), Zilvinas Dagys (32)
Bench: Franz Dümmler (26 - GK), Olaf Rechgitl (30 - RD), Christian Geyer (34 - CD), Gunther Egner (22 - LD), Leopold Meyr (21 - RM), Bodo Cranach (25 - CM), Sigismund Munch (28 - AM), Caspar Schricker (32 - LW), Gerard Kolman (23 - RW), Robin Claesson (24 - LA)
Transfers In: Antek Zych (1.2 mil - Garbarnia Hoyersko), Zilvinas Dagys (0.6 mil - Viztourzys Kolektyvinis), Robin Claesson (0.4 mil - Tillsamman Stensund), Gerard Kolman (0.35 mil - Aigil Grephel), Leopold Meyr (0.3 mil - Blau-Weiss Pallstadt)
Transfers Out: Ekhard Gustloff (5 mil - Pajukas Sport), Ingo Herdrich (0.9 mil - Druzhna Rovers)
Overview: There were a ton of questions about the position of Andy Rettinger but the debuting manager impressed with attacking football brought by an enthused yet disciplined group resulting in an unexpected sixth place. A success which inspired in an expansion of the stadium to accommodate the thousands of new fans whose hearts were won with plenty of inspiring performances. Obviously, the new status raises the expectations but Rettinger made clear that he would sign for another midseason finish as long as it is accompanied by ‘our brand of football’. At first sight, and despite everything, that sounds like a realistic target.
We phrase it this way as Ernesse lost a man who is often cited as the most promising player nationwide. With sixteen goals in twenty-five appearance, Ekhard Gustloff was a cornerstone despite his age and this attracted attention in the tall centre-forward. Eventually, Pajukas won the bidding war with an unprecedented five million - an important source for the building works going on in Das Stadion. Less shrewd played by Stahl was the interest for Herdrich where they ran into arguments with the midfielder and lost him for less than his market value. It merits applause, also for their academy, that Rettinger did not opt for expensive replacements yet opted for his bench with Rothblatt and Kesselbaum, two prospects who convinced during their appearances in the first squad.
This does not mean that Ernesse is sitting on its money. They cleverly invested in Antek Zych who should reinforce the often fragile defence - however, it still remains the Achilles’ heel of this team. The powerful midfield was kept as was with the mature Waldow and motor Fincke standing out in this formation. Keep an eye out on Bolzenstein who still seems to progress every month. For the attack it appears that depth has been added with the dribbles of Dagys, the untapped potential of Claesson and the laser-guided crosses from Kolman. Yet quantity is not necessarily quality so, with the supply available, a pivotal role will be played by 21-year old Lutz Kesselbaum who will walk in the giant boots of Gustloff. If he passes the test, they once again can aim for the first column but without a double-figure striker, things suddenly look a tad more grim.
Garbarnia Hoyersko
Home Stadium: Aleja Lipowa (9.100 seats) in Hoyersko, Serkau (170.000 inhabitants)
Manager: Adrian Poszek (43)
”Last year should be an exception to the rule
playing with youngsters and being in the top half can go together.” – Adrian Pozek
Starting XI: Zbigniew Zumicz (31) *** Elias Forsberg (25), Michal Bortkiewicz (35), Idzi Sochacki (21), Ryszard Kazymierczak (23) *** Emil Garbacz (26), Hanko Drazanski (31), Didrik Moller (24), Miro Stepaniak (32 - Capt) *** Rudi Polaniak (31), Pafnucy Gawel (19)
Bench: Johann Lienke (30 - GK), Tamas Mazur (33 - CD), Antoni Kadot (18 - RD), Jan Bonarewski (34 - LD), Daniel Rysinski (20 - DM), Rowan Szesztup (25 - RM), Kornel Staszak (25 - LM), Frydyryk Gorczyka (21 - AM), Titus Mielczarek (25 - LA), Carl Gossauer (23 - RA)
Transfers In: Didrik Moller (1.1 mil - Tjelberg Forening), Elias Forsberg (0.5 mil - Bengtsmark IF), Carl Gossauer (0.25 mil - Blau-Weiss Pallstadt), Rowan Szesztup (0.2 mil - Ruch Siepoclawycz), Antoni Kadot (youth product)
Transfers Out: Antek Zych (1.2 mil - Ernesse Stahl), Marko Kaminski (free - Karzmisko Rotor)
Overview: The Tanners rarely stood for colourful football but last year could have been, if it weren’t for a proper final stretch, very mediocre even for their standards. At the lowest point, old-timer Samuel Libanovich made way for new style Adrian Pozek, the track suit thrown out for the designer suit and the scientific approach of the ‘Civil Professor’. With calm hand, he lead the ship into a safe harbour and managed to patch up the players group yet the initial enthusiasm seems to have waned a little in the corridors. Badmouths claim it is due to the visible connection between the upstart gaffer and his star midfielder Miro Stepaniak who presented the only spark of creativity in 2034 but whose influence in the dressing room has been called ‘damaging’ by some.
Credit where it is due, Stepaniak did play impressive at times and that he retired from the national team after the successful Cup of Harmony to focus on Garbarnia Hoyersko should give allow him some freedom as well. Yet the pivotal playmaker didn’t get any younger and the lack of alternatives in the build-up was a major problem. In comes Didrik Moller, a stocky yet quick number ten with a nice pass. After a few years and some unfulfilled promises at the Tjelberg bench, Moller moved to Hoyersko for playing minutes. The major question for the Tanners will be whether Pozek can find a way in which both Moller and Stepaniak can showcase their potential without frustrating one another - not a given as they could make the Aleja Lipowa glow with delight but also run their team into the ground due to animosity.
The limited funds of the Tanners were always demanding for the influx of players who were stuck on the bench elsewhere, so it is no surprise that Antek Zych got replaced by Elias Forsberg, who never got past Aado Luik but learned the ropes at Bengtsmark. Although the spirits of those ‘outcasts’ might be high, there seems to be a lack of quality added. Defensively, the few pearls left in the once rich mine, called Sochacki and Rysinski, will have to step up to bring Garbarnia to a higher level. And in attack, a lot depends on the canon of Rudi Polaniak as youngster Gawel seems as little ready for the job as Mielczarek. It cannot be a soothing thought for manager Pozek that whether or not his youth blossoms is what stands between Garbarnia and the relegation battle.
Gornik Wladica
Home Stadium: Dolin Arena (12.500 seats) in Wladica, Serkau (295.000 inhabitants)
Manager: Michal Kurvacza (52)
”Nobody ever likes us...
But we! Don’t! Care!” – The Dolin Arena
Starting XI: Waclaw Skwira (21) *** Sverre Mikkelsen (29), Filip Lipinski (27), Wieczeslaw Dziechciarz (24), Cyryl Jonczyk (26) *** Kurt Lisowski (31), Janas Tarukitius (30), Marcin Kaczan (24) *** Ontaras Devicius (32), Emil Kokot (34 - Capt), Klas Wiszawoty (20)
Bench: Vladas Racimas (23 - GK), Michal Wiech (20 - CD), Artur Zawisza (35 - LD), Armani Cox (22 - CD - SEM), Olaf Marczek (29 - LM), Lew Kolaczek (19 - RM), Wenceslas Limanski (30 - CM), Julian Czerepak (28 - RW), Josef Charinski (31 - LA), Lech Brugaczew (17 - CA)
Transfers In: Sverre Mikkelsen (0.8 mil - Jottnar Kallsmudden), Kurt Lisowski (0.8 mil - Ciegnalki Motor), Vladas Racimas (0.5 mil - Sparta Torspeda), Janas Tarukaitis (trade - Pajukas Sport), Armani Cox (free - FC Kolberg (SEM)), Lech Brugaczew (youth)
Transfers Out: Donat Chmiel (2.7 mil - Bengtsmark IF), Stjepan Bursuk (1.5 mil - Viztourzys Kolektyvinis), Zytomir Grochala (trade + 0.5 mil - Pajukas Sport)
Overview: Never before, the Gornik supporters were so delighted as on that dreary Saturday night when Filip Lipinski had a chance to finish of the final with a successful penalty. It hadn’t been a pretty game but they had contained Pajukas Sport and a Chmiel goal brought them in the last stretch towards a Cup victory. However, Lipinski skied his penalty, Adomaitis made the nets tremble and those few Wladica fans who hadn’t then, have landed back on earth by now. It seems that the CEdC fixtures (a consolation price) won’t bring in much money and that was something of which Gornik, partially due to problems with bankrupt investors, already didn’t have much. As a consequence, it seems that Michal Kurvacza gets presented another gargantuan task.
Mainly because they lost the three players who might be considered as the driving force behind the performances. That Donat Chmiel would part ways with the Last Frontier was bound to happen, especially if Bengtsmark IF turns up with a fine pile of money for the talented, energetic midfielder. Waving goodbye to Zytomir Grochala, whom some call a prospective international, might have hurt a bit more already. But that even a one-club man such as Bursuk, a decade between the stakes, moved away to a bigger club might really be painful. Once again, the price offered by Viztourzys for the 28-year old goalie was too good to deny. They leave a team behind which looks far less ready to get things done, with the key men not seeming to be replaced adequately.
On goal, Kurvacza can choose between the inexperienced Skwira and Racimas, who did not convince at Sparta - and two half goalies don’t make a good one, the proverb says. Sverre Mikkelsen suffered a horrible injury at Jottnar and hasn’t seen a blade of grass in half a year - whether he’ll return at Top Division level is an open question, let alone pick up the right defender spot. In midfield, playmaker and overall key man Kaczan will get supported by the lazy, but technically apt Lisowski and the hardworking Tarukitius who is looking for revenge. As such, only the attack is as was and that might turn out to be crucial as the goals from veterans Devicius and Emil Kokot were key last year. Nonetheless it all seems awfully little to withstand the pressure at the highest tier, especially with a wafer-thin bench with only Czerepak, Kolaczek and the marvellously-named Semar Armani Cox as adequate options.
Jottnar Kallsmudden
Home Stadium: Vingardarena (17.000 seats) in Kallsmudden, Ravnar (405.000 inhabitants)
Manager: Sigurd Tufte (43)
”Of course the pressure is high.
I haven’t known it any other way.” – Reidar Bjelland
Starting XI: Stig Lakner (27) *** Ivar Bjelland (18), Marius Sellaeg (22), Kai Ruutu (37 - Capt), Jehan Brustad (29) *** Jorn Engebretsen (26), Reidar Bjelland (20), Kashim Broadway (20 - ISK) *** Jostein Gjertsen (27), Terje Falkanger (23), Erik Myklebust (31)
Bench: Jona Rekkel (34 - GK), Frode Vennerod (24 - CD), Stein Vellmark (18 - LD), Ronadio (19 - RD - DAI), Victor Borja (16 - CD - TAE), Hakon Jepsen (20 - CM), Ari Kreplu (32 - RM), Kare Kristersen (19 - AM), Jarle Waerness (17 - CA), Kirsty Nevay (18 - RW - SCT)
Transfers In: Jehan Brustad (0.9 mil - Thor Rellhovn), Ronadio (0.4 mil - Tarruço (DAI)), Victor Borja (0.3 mil - Poseidon Los Riosa (TAE)), Kashim Broadway (0.3 mil - Iskandabad United (ISK)), Kare Kristersen (youth Tjelberg Forening), Stein Vellmark (youth product), Kirsty Nevay (free - Regional Development Side A (SCT))
Transfers Out: Simen Haukland (2 mil - Pikemouth (BRE)), Asbjorn Thoresen (1.2 mil - Sparta Torspeda), Sverre Mikkelsen (0.8 mil - Gornik Wladica), Elias Ellering (free - Tjelberg Forening)
Overview: The Giants made a bold decision and stood by it in the off-season. Offloading four of their starting players, all but one of their new signees are young whippersnappers who will experience for the first time what it is to play at the highest level. Reinforcing this reflex might have gotten a little push in the back from the financial results reaped, seeing Thoresen part for a substantial sum to Sparta and the promising Haukland making it into the A-League for even more. Doing so will have its consequences for the squad of Sigurd Tufte that increasingly looks like a few experienced guides for an enthused yet inexperienced bunch. It’s noteworthy to underline that the Jottnar plan does not limit itself to the Buyanese borders, with four foreign additions to the squad.
Yet, half the money on Haukland was spent on Jehan Brustad, who should add a calm touch to an often insecure back four - the open doors policy in the back was the major culprit for the all-but-one weakest goal difference. It not only adds a player who knows the ropes but allows a slower version of the unbreakable Kai Ruutu to lead youngsters in defence, being it the stagnating Sellaeg, the gifted Ronadio or the unknown quantity of Borja. Whilst their age still shields them from most of the critics, the same cannot be said about Reidar Bjelland. Twenty springs old, he is already expected to lead this squad. Last season saw clear expositions of his capacities but at times his inexperience was unfolded as well. He should be covered by the positioning of the underestimated Engebretsen and the pace of Broadway. It is rumoured that the gaffer was so stunned by his physical tests that he signed him right away - disregarding any skill on the ball.
In attack, the traditional 4-3-3 is upheld with mostly the same names as last time around. Terje Falkanger probably accepted that he’ll never make the step up but is a reliable fellow for this level and Erik Myklebust adds that much-needed hint of experience. For the third spot, the upper hand seems to go to the pocket rocket called Gjaertsen, although the slightly naive yet playful Kirsty Nevay got the applause of many a fan in the pre-season bouts - even without being anywhere near Coultan in terms of type, player or person, it just felt good to let the name of the still-admired Schottian reverberate through the stadium. Add to that a bench with disciplined youth products and we could be up for a year of interesting discoveries for Jottnar. Not that such a thing brings you anywhere near the UICA but purely on talent they should pulverise four or five Top Division sides and stay afloat.
Pajukas Sport
Home Stadium: Bokstasstadion (19.400 seats) in Pajukas, Valneda (645.000 inhabitants)
Manager: Valdas Tomascevicius (58)
”Investments are made, it’s up to the players now.”
– Egitas Bursius, financial manager Pajukas Sport
Starting XI: Garon Gularis (30) *** Zytomir Grochala (25), Vadimas Simkus (28), Scott Burton (33 - SCT), Lauri Sillema (35 - Capt) *** Sebastien Rousseau (25 - VLD), Henrikas Dobas (23), Remunas Grigas (24), Danielius Mykolaitis (30) *** Marijus Adomaitis (26), Ekhard Gustloff (20)
Bench: Petras Zukauskas (22 - GK), Stavras Buredaitis (31 - RD), Beldis Sakelevitius (32 - CD), Algimantas Dinius (24 - LD), Ignatas Stukaitis (33 - CM), Tamas Zedaitis (19 - RM), Kalas Sparkaitis (23 - LM), Pranciskas Klukas (21 - CA), Juozapas Martukas (29 - LA), Risto Pajari (38 - CA)
Transfers In: Ekhard Gustloff (5 mil - Ernesse Stahl), Sebastien Rousseau (4.5 mil - Eterna Stars (VLD)), Scott Burton (2.5 mil - Cornellians (SCT)), Zytomir Grochala (trade + 0.4 mil - Gornik Wladica), Kalas Sparkaitis (0.4 mil - JX Jurbiskis), Tamas Zedaitis (youth product)
Transfers Out: Stepanas Mazeika (2.3 mil - Slask Pruzwiczo), Arturas Janulis (1 mil - Sparta Torspeda), Janas Tarukitius (trade - Gornik Wladica)
Overview: What was the cause of the meltdown which caused the Boys in Green to let a seven-point lead over IF slip in just six games, giving the biggest chance in club history for a national title away as if it were charity? Fatigue? Lack of depth? Loss of focus? Valdas Tomascevicius must have pondered for months and for quite a few, it’s a surprise to see he gets a second chance to target the crown - winning the Cup after a maddeningly tense final probably did the trick there. However, there will be no room for excuses this time around as the Pajukas Sport management, supported by their new sponsor, Sodas Savas - known from the sick and sweet beverages - invested multiple millions and will ask for a return in investment. Having a transfer deficit of over nine millions seems, even with the tv rights, quite a gamble and must raise the pressure at the Bokstas.
Especially in the back, Pajukas looks increasingly solid as a rock. Garon Gularis raised his level during the Campionato and his status as national second goalie makes him even more of a cornerstone. The vastly experienced Scott Burton, former captain of the renowned Cornellians, should add solidity to the dedicated yet error-prone Simkus whilst the speed of Grochala gives extra vibes on the wing. In front of that reinforced defence, Sebastien Rousseau seems to be the long-awaited heir of Noel Amundsen as the Valladar showed himself worthy of his hefty transfer sum with dominant performances during the preseason. His appearance and skill should allow young whippersnappers Dobas and Grigas to wreck havoc in the heart of domestic and international opposition. That leads into the key man of the line-up, Danielius Mykolaitis whose status as main man got underlined with a remarkable departure. Stasys Mazeika showcased his talent quite often but the prospect of another year as second string convinced him to leave his youth club with slamming doors - many are curious to see whether he will warrant the sum left behind by Slask.
Either way, this puts quite some pressure on the brilliant yet inconsistent Mykolaitis. Luckily for him, his passes will now find more skill in front of him. Last year, four strikers exchanged highs and lows and failed to bring rest and solidity but the biggest transfer of the off-season - an incredible five million - should solve that. Ekhard Gustloff will have to adapt to a new style, being a partnership with Adomaitis who is unremarkable but an assurance on goals coming from a 4-3-3 whilst having to adapt to an atmosphere where the fans nor the board will have patience. If he breaks, guys like Klukas or good old Pajari should be able to chip in a goal or two, but these two are symbol for the bench - guys who make the bar but will offer little added value to the starting line-up. However the quality of those eleven warrant slapping the glove in the face of Bengtsmark IF for a tight title run.
Slask Pruczniwczo
Home Stadium: The Ring (8.000 seats) in Pruczniwczo, Baskin (60.000 inhabitants)
Manager: Vilhjelm Ljung (53)
”Last year we struggled to keep up our pace after a month or two -
The width and quality in this group should allow us .” – Vilhjelm Ljung
Starting XI: Maciej Chlopicki (33) *** Andrzej Kobylarsz (25), Iwo Wadowski (28), Tommi Puuk (24), Axel Ljung (33) *** Klemens Razevli (38 - Capt), Ake Ljung (33), Edi Paczek (23), Stepanas Mazeika (19) *** Wieslaw Pioro (28), Tobias Warenko (29)
Bench: Staf Wisson (22 - GK), Wolf Persson (35 - CD), Marek Ciach (24 - LD), Karol Voszlap (17 - RD), Zytek Stemaczyk (27 - DM), Kasparek Gozdzik (25 - AM), Maximilian Grahn (22 - RM), Ejnar Halm (18 - CA), Roman Dubicki (22 - RA)
Transfers In: Stepanas Mazeika (2.3 mil - Pajukas Sport), Tommi Puuk (0.4 mil - Fortuni Harseni), Maximilian Grahn (0.4 mil - Tillsamman Stensund), Staf Wisson (0.2 mil - Forbund Bengtsmark), Karol Voszlap (youth product)
Transfers Out: Gunnar Karlsson (2.6 mil - Tjelberg Forening), Karl Raszewski (loan - Tillsamman Stensund), Robert Gudowicz (retired)
Overview: Although Slask had their bright moments last season, especially when turning up in their The Ring where opponents enter with wobbly knees, they eventually parked quite a bit lower down the table as hoped despite a scorching start of the year. Being one of the smaller clubs, they always have been supporting heavily on a few stars and a larger group of tough, hard-nosed players. If those few top dogs fail to turn up, being it either due to their fragile body - Paczek - or their wishy washy attitude towards the training pitch - Warenko - they quickly lose composure. The one star, and by no accident Buyanese international, who always showed up, Gunnar Karlsson has departed from Pruczniwco and even if the step up to Tjelberg was inevitable, it will be a heavy loss to carry.
This had the upside for gaffer Vilhjelm Ljung that for the first time in ages, he had some budget and wasn’t obliged to scrounge the Mullsphaller lower division fields for additions - although old habits die hard and he obviously signed a few underestimated elements that fell short for the Mullsphaller Big Three to raise the volume of his selection for just a few pennies. In the back, much is expected of Tommi Puuk, a modern centre-back with a fine crosspass who should make the four in front of Chlopicki - still his mumbling, ball-stopping, badmouthing self - better when it comes to getting the ball out of the danger zone without hitting anyone in the stands. Good old Klemens Razevli is still around with both of his persona, the signator of incredibly beautiful free kicks and the pair of lungs who deals with the clean-up along with half of the Ljung twins to allow more inspired players to shine.
Guys like Edi Paczek, whose feet are impressive when it’s his day but most importantly Stasys Mazeika. At times, he showcased great skill at Pajukas last year but he manoeuvred himself in an awkward position with star midfielder Mykolaitis and the management decided to let go of the youngster. Vilhjelm Ljung made no secret of the ambition to mould the team around the clever playmaker but one could wonder if he’s ready to lead a squad from start to finish. Stepping out of the shadows will be a huge test, especially in a formation that looks a tad unbalanced without the endless rushes of Karlsson. Either way, as Mazeika ain’t an ace in front of goal, he will have to rely on the gifted yet quirky Warenko or the hardworking Pioro to convert what he provides. Or it should come from the reinforced bench, where young Ejnar Halm seems on the brink of a breakthrough. There’s a major tactical challenge ahead for this team, but if they can put the talent available in place, they should have a calm season.
Sparta Torspeda
Home Stadium: Pergale Stadionas (9.500 seats) in Torspeda, Valneda (180.000 inhabitants)
Manager: Frederik Suhr (36)
”Our system worked last season, I feel,
But sometimes you’ve got to harvest first.” – Frederik Suhr
Starting XI: Bo Palsson (24) *** Martynas Kacelnakis (27), Matthew Kholl (28 - SCT), Povilas Vilminskas (22), Feliksas Kiaunis (24) *** Georgs Ruvelikaitis (30 - Capt), Emils Grajauskas (23), Aleksandris Zitans (30), Juris Kluskins (33) *** Asbjorn Thoresen (22), Rimantas Vilkas (28)

Transfers In: Bo Palsson (1.4 mil - Welanduz Vadshult), Asbjorn Thoresen (1.2 mil - Jottnar Kallsmudden), Arturas Janulis (0.9 mil - Pajukas Sport), Matthew Kholl (0.5 mil - Kelsy Merchants (SCT)), Ardins Saveckas (0.3 mil - Asociacija Uraugai), Aigars Prackis (youth product)
Transfers Out: Stasys Fainsteinas (0.5 mil - Blau-Weiss Pallstadt), Vladas Racimas (0.5 mil - Gornik Wladica), Iben Pilgaard (free - Thor Rellhovn)
Overview: Last year, Fredrik Suhr managed to bring the best and worst out of his players. With a defensive line seemingly far too young for the task at hand and no double-figure striker until the rise of Rimantas Vilkas late in the season, Sparta failed to bring real consistency but showcased at times that there is life in Valnedan football behind Viztourzys and Sport. Especially the crispy guts with which Suhr allowed his team to play - a lot over the ground with a lot of clever runs - caught the eye of the neutral observers but these same people witnessed how at times, the team was loose sand. As such, it seems that he will opt for a more realistic stance than the 3-5-2 employed, aided with an investment from the management which focussed on adding width and power in the group.
As they wanted to build a more solid squad, Sparta needed to do so from the bottom up and invested in a reliable goalie with young Bo Palsson - a cornerstone in the brick wall of Welanduz last year. In front of him, it was a nailbiter to see the promising but inconsistent Vilminskas being accompanied by a more mature element. Although some protested that deadline day was over, cheeky loopholes in the regulation allowed Torspeda to get the transfer of Schottian Matthew Kholl approved, a seemingly hard-nosed centre-back who should serve as the leader in the reformed defence. Returning to a four men on a line was much against the will of Suhr, but he was aware that getting overrun ten times a year was too much. To augment to the solidity in that department, Arturis Janulis, abundant in Pajukas, was lured to the neighbours, adding extra spice to the derby although the newcomer will have to get past captain Ruvelikaitis to make the team.
What will stay - or at least, that is what all might hope - is the technical brilliance in the attacking part of the midfield where short but inspired players determine the pace. Zitans is an old-fashioned playmaker with a terrific pass who can bank on the speed of Grajauskas and the dribbles of Kluskins, on whom age seems to have no impact. Far too often last season, they were also the ones to convert and such is not their exact piece of cake. A realisation which instigated the fourth, Asbjorn Thoresen, who should fit the style of football preached - we’re curious to see whether he and Vilkas will find one another on the pitch. Coming from the bench, Eglitis should allow kick-and-rush in the dying minutes when necessary and players like Berzins and Saveckas raise the quality of the bench. Considering the nearly clean outgoing department - Pilgaard is far past his best point, Racimas could be a shame but was fallen out of love with the team and Fainsteinas considered a lesser match with the system - there is no saying on the limits for the room for improvement. They could be up for a copy of 2034 but also find a new, higher stretch.
Thor Rellhovn
Home Stadium: Mellem to Strome (6.350 seats) in Rellhovn, Ravnar (115.000 inhabitants)
Manager: Sigmund Dalby (46)
”I think I got past the point where I care whether they think we’re relegation
candidates. It’s always like that and we’re still here.” - Sigmund Dalby
Starting XI: Olger Skeie (26) *** Isak Koht (22), Joel Berrefjord (30), Bendik Waage (27), Dubois (21 - DAI) *** Geir Berner (30), Fall Sunderstrom (30), Erik Bentson (31 - Capt) *** Sil Hoie (33), Malakai Curtis (29 - NPH), Eerik Koivu (23)
Bench: Martin Kjaergaard (31 - GK), Dag Jorgensen (26 - CB), Frode Havik (20 - RD), Stig Pilker (25 - LD), Nils Asheim (23 - CM), Leif Onstadt (26 - RM), Steffen Aarrestad (31 - LM), Laurits Varvik (24 - LA), Iben Pilgaard (37 - RA), Per Willmann (16 - CA)
Transfers In: Eerik Koivu (0.7 mil - Seura Pohkakunti), Stig Pilker (0.1 mil - Virksomhet Stovsand), Dubois (free - Estrella d’Alva (DAI)), Malakai Curtis (free - Brookford Otters (NPH)), Per Willmann (youth product)
Transfers Out: Jon Fossum (1.4 mil - Issington FC (APX)), Jehan Brustad (0.9 mil - Jottnar Kallsmudden), Arnold Rootare (free - Seura Pohkakunti)
Overview: When one tries to list all Buyanese clubs top of mind, Thor Rellhovn is the one that is easily forgotten - and for a reason. They’re not really the ugly duckling, but rather the invisible one with a style that is unattractive without being ridiculously aggressive, with a shoestring budget and with a stadium that invokes a certain ‘muh’ feeling. But nonetheless they celebrate another season in the Top Division so they must be doing
something right. In general, we can trace it back to the combination of a tried-and-tested tactical ploy, a passionate club manager in Sigmund Dalby and a financial policy in which each Mint is spent with a good reason. This off-season seemed no stranger to that, with limited spending and some outgoing players compensating for the weaker fanbase.
However, the gaffer had quite a surprise in store when he tore apart a five-season partnership in the midfield. Used to a flat 4-4-2 in which the midfield kept the mediocre team together, Dalby has opted for three fellows up front, making Aarrestad the one to pay the price. It will have to be seen how Bentson and Berner, the two playmakers of the formation, will deal with this change of circumstances - more work seems to be asked and although neither is afraid to make his hands dirty, it might hold them back in the creative department. The transition does open up room for the strikers, where the departure abroad of the young gem Jon Fossum made budget available for an unknown quantity from Nephara and a brick layer embracing the step to professionalism. Curtis, a bulky targetman, adds weight to the attack whilst Koivu’s efforts in the second tier caught quite a few suitors - letting good old Rootare go to Seura in return allowed Thor to pick him up, it’s whispered.
The third and last departure was from Jehan Brustad, the only consistent element in the defensive line. One can expect that Olger Skeie, not the best of shotstoppers himself, will have plenty of work to do unless the brand-new Daineri Dubois ends up being a perfect match and his right-wing counterpart Koht steps it up a notch. It will be crucial as this Thor Rellhovn does not escape the general feel of being subpar and unfit for the top tier. Especially the bench seems a combination of either has-been (who is still willing to invest in an Iben Pilgaard), too young or simply insufficient. If Berner and Bentson manage to find their spot in the new plan and if the newcomers settle in well, then Rellhovn could once more scrounge enough points to stay up - but those are two major ‘if’s.
Tjelberg Forening
Home Stadium: Den Dam (14.800 seats) in Tjellberg, Ravnar (130.000 inhabitants)
Manager: Palle Angst (42)
”If you only pay peanuts,
You get monkeys.” - Palle Angst
Starting XI: David Silje (25) *** Stan Halving (32), Arild Hermansen (24), Haakon Landvik (26), Espen Raestad (32 - Capt) *** Gunnar Karlsson (25), Eskil Vernerse (23), Sander Lykke (28) *** Stig Oberg (23), Andreas Losnedahl (26), Semyon Yucob (26 - COS)
Bench: Sergei Gazulov (20 - GK), Geir Arnesen (25 - RD), Christer Storstrand (23 - CD), Emil Olsen (22 - LD), Stig Villehammer (33 - DM), Jakob Fisker (19 - CM), Elias Ellering (32 - LM), William Marke (19 - RW), Henrik Ostergaard (39 - CA), Stale Olhouser (22 - LW)
Transfers In: Semyon Yucob (4.5 mil - Crawford City FC (COS)), Gunnar Karlsson (2.6 mil - Slask Pruzniwczo), Sergei Gazulov (0.8 mil - Druzhna Rovers), Emil Olsen (0.3 mil - Virksomhet Stovsand), Stig Oberg (trade - Welanduz Vadshult), Elias Ellering (free - Jottnar Kallsmudden), William Marke (youth product)
Transfers Out: Didrik Moller (1.1 mil - Garbarnia Hoyersko), Sam Rekdal (trade - Welanduz Vadshult), Lex Pragner (0.1 mil - Virksomhet Stovsand), Trygve Andresen (retired)
Overview: It is hard to belief that there was a time when Tjelberg found itself in the shadows of Jottnar Kallsmudden when it came to the football hierarchy of Ravnar. This certainly comes forth when it comes to the spending, where the Forening matches the efforts of Pajukas and Bengtsmark and as such showcases themselves as a viable third candidate for the title. Palle Angst, generally known for his frugal approach to the transfer window, had to admit that it was ‘sink or swim’ and that the squad needed another talent injection to keep up. Last year hadn’t been half-bad however with a long title run eventually landing them into the UICA Globe Cup, a testimony to their quality.
The defence in front of David Silje, who proved better than expected, had a reliable season and will remain untouched: the combination of wise wingbacks with a great cross and an austere yet reliable duo in the heart. But they did reinforce in terms of width with the vastly talented Gazulov and a promising Olsen. The midfield looks incredibly powerful, even if a regular playmaker is missing. Gunnar Karlsson and Eskil Vernerse cover a lot of ground and represent the football preached by Angst - a lot of pressure, rolling up the sleeves but never unnecessary brutal. It matches with Sander Lykke, the most underestimated man in showbusiness who comes across as a modest eight accidentally dropped on the number ten position, but who manages to pop up where you never expect it.
These muscles should create room for the attack to do what they have to do. Andreas Losnedahl scored like a machine last season but should now receive much better support from the wings then he got from the unfortunate Andresen - career-ending injury - and Olhauser who seems too light for these expectations. Stig Oberg must prove he’s not in that alley as well but could be a bargain trade with Welanduz over Sam Rekdal, who is part of the policy to let go of frustrated benchers (also note the departure of Didrik Moller to Garbarnia). But we’re all looking forward to the arrival of Semyon Yucob, the Cosumar arriving in the Top Division with a lot of promise - something the preseason seems to back up. Tjelberg stretched their budget for this fellow but his infiltrations might wreak havoc in a lesser competition as ours. He’s the crown on a selection that looks balanced and ready to take on the battle as underdog of the three titles candidates.
Viztourzys Kolektyvinis
Home Stadium: Nova Pylimasstadionas (15.500 seats) in Viztourzys, Valneda (100.000 inhabitants)
Manager: Thomas Vasquez (48 - SLL)
”It is time that this club gets developed towards its full potential.
And then we can break any ceiling.” – Thomas Vasquez
Starting XI: Stjepan Bursuk (28) *** Svante Bjorklund (25), Vytautas Paksas (32), Jurgis Klimaitis (30) *** Daumantas Okmiankas (22), Zydrunas Eimontas (30 - Capt), Tamas Radeczkas (25), Dargailas Butkus (29) *** Fu Xi (25 - YZH), Heron Kendall (23 - NPH), Edgars Vaitis (17 - LA)
Bench: Henrikas Kazlauskas (28 - GK), Giedrius Bacinskas (19 - GK), Linas Tamasiunas (26 - CD), Sabas Urbonas (30 - CD), Jokubas Mackunas (24 - LD), Arturas Lukosaitis (27 - DM), Saulius Jucaitis (20 - AM), Azuolas Kazergis (24 - CM), Aidas Anatanavicius (32 - LM), Darijus Artutis (19 - CA)
Transfers In: Heron Kendall (4 mil - Sporting de Ceres (IRN)), Svante Bjorklund (2.2 mil - Welanduz Vadshult), Stjepan Bursuk (1.5 mil - Gornik Wladica), Fu Xi (1.4 mil - Yincheng Capitals (YZH)), Lojes de Sájajo (undisclosed - Madorre de Fuego (FFD)), Edgars Vaitis (youth product)
Transfers Out: Povilas Kaukenas (4 mil - Raven River (NPH)), Zilvinas Dagys (0.6 mil - Ernesse Stahl), Lojes de Sájajo (loan - Druzhna Rovers)
Overview: In few places, the end of the season was so welcomed as in the Novas Pylimas, where a season larded with infighting, form drops and fan protest seemingly accidentally still lead into a UICA berth. Caretaker Tomas Varnas, useful on the training ground but too much a gentleman for this sort of task, was thanked for his efforts with a demotion to assistant. Contrary to all expectations, the choice for a replacement comes from abroad. Thomas Vasquez might have been rumoured to be the biggest tactical genius of Super-Llamaland, it will be his baptism of fire when it comes to carrying the final responsibility. A huge ask in a team so eager to challenge the top three that seemingly ran off into the horizon without them last year.
In fulfilling these expectations, Vasquez got some help from a nice financial push in the back, half of which was based on shipping bad boy Povilas Kaukenas off to Nephara. As difficult to control as ‘the Bomb’ might be, as beloved he was with the fans and as crucial when it comes to goalscoring. A man with his skills needed a replacement and Vasquez decided to double down with two different yet exciting profiles. The elegant Heron Kendall might have a preference for beautiful goals, she is eager for the confidence missed in Cranequin and the stability not offered in Ceres. On the other hand, there is Yuezhou international Fu Xi who rather acts as a false nine and can infiltrate from further up the pitch. Add to that youth product Edgars Vaitis whose dribbles make him an instant grandstand favourite and the Red Machine has a brand-new front line as never before.
Especially as Vasquez has a penchant for the 3-4-3, an attacking ploy which will require something completely different from his defence. With this in mind, the hesitant Kazlauskas was benched over Stjepan Bursuk - until further notice still the national third goalie - and international Svante Bjorklund came in to reinforce two older club men. Squeezed in between these two heavily adapted departments, the midfield assures a more familiar ring to the Viztourzys fans. The talented right-back Okmiantas is pushed a little upfield to serve as a counterpart for the nimble winger Butkus whilst the motor should be formed by the excellent passer Radeczkas and the hardworking Eimontas - the brand-new captain. The major question is whether Vasquez lives up to his reputation and manages to make this, for most alien, tactical scheme result in victories. Even with a mediocre bench, the talent in the starting line-up should give him quite some cards to play.
Welanduz Vadshult
Home Stadium: Lyckastadion (7.000 seats) in Vadshult, Mullsphall (450.000 inhabitants)
Manager: Vital Aalberg (53)
”We’ve lost some strong players but for me,
We’re a stronger group.” - Ivar Falk
Starting XI: Erik Andersson (29) *** Gert Berggren (30), Ebbe Frisk (21), Daniel Viklund (32), Kalle Nordin (23) *** Mats Hedlund (19), Folke Sundberg (27), Gosta Posse (37 - Capt) *** Sam Rekdal (29), Klas Klavanger (24), Ivar Falk (24)
Bench: Edvin Mansson (23 - GK), Theodor Astrom (26 - CD), Bror Grym (30 - CD), Déan Zivkovic (16 - CD - PAS), Owe Stolt (22 - DM), Hakan Gorrell (20 - AM), Inge Erlandsson (17 - LM), Ralph Lundkvist (34 - CA), Clas Gilleberg (23 - LW), August Wernblom (31 - ST)
Transfers In: Erik Andersson (0.8 mil - Bengtsmark IF), Klas Klavanger (0.6 mil - IFK Pollmarnang), Ebbe Frisk (0.5 mil - Tillsamman Stensund), Sam Rekdal (trade - Tjelberg Forening), Déan Zivkovic (free - Baskita FC (PAS)), Inge Erlandsson (youth product)
Transfers Out: Svante Bjorklund (2.2 mil - Viztourzys Kolektyvinis), Bo Pallson (1.4 mil - Sparta Torspeda), Stig Oberg (trade - Tjelberg Forening)
Overview: If your squad is clinging on to the tail of the table, one can be excused for cementing the back and setting up a tactical plan which is boring yet effective. But if you do so whilst battling for the UICA spots and, above all, refuse to depart from it when things go south, you rarely get praise. By the end of the season, many already forgot that it’s half a miracle that Bertil Westermark parked Vadshult in sixth position and his position was considered impossible to hold. He will be replaced by Vital Aalberg, a former Bengtsmark IF player who learned the ropes in the lower leagues but who receives no gift as he inherited a selection where some of the most promising elements have parted: the clean sheet king of 2034 Bo Pallson, international Svante Bjorklund and the vocal but passionate Stig Oberg leave Welanduz for greener - and better paying - pastures.
As a firm clean-up of the comfy yet slightly derelict Lyckastadium stood high on the agenda, Aalberg would have to spend every penny wisely. His tight budget pointed him to youngsters and players eager for revenge and the combination with a more attractive version of the 4-3-3 should install a squad that could once again park in the middle of the table, even if most expect a bit less. Erik Andersson brings experience in goal and as every mistake was enlarged at IF, one often forgets he’s a skilled man, especially on his line. Bjorklund was the face of the defensive line but getting the least goals against only worked because of those other three fellows, two reliable club men and the vastly talented Kalle Nordin - adding young gun Ebbe Frisk gives them a bit more crisp and no one knows what Zivkovic can do, but the talent of the Pasargan is unquestioned.
The midfield formula is unchanged with captain Posse both as strength and Achilles’ heel. His vision guides good soldier Sundberg and the rough diamond slash marathon man Hedlund but his pace is waning - you can’t solve everything with a great pass. The bench is filled with enthusiast youngsters but that none, not even Gorrell, has pushed Posse out of the XI shows there’s more to learn. Fortunately, the attack looks a tad more solid and very eager to set things straight. Sam Rekdal never managed to grab that starting spot in Tjelberg, despite everyone admitting that he’s a classy fellow with efficiency in front of goal. As a targetman, Klas Klavanger gets the shot in the top tier which was denied to him by Bengtsmark IF. The two of them, along with the nimble Falk should raise the figure of only 15 goals last season to something more respectable. There’s plenty of power available but who will stand up to lead the ship on the pitch?
