The Rugby Union Championship Hebitaka

The UCH(Union Championship Hebitaka) is a new league of the team sport rugby union in the country of Hebitaka. This year the AHSAMC(All Hebitaka Sports and Athletics Management Committee) has decided to sent the top two teams from the league to participate in the RUCT. The teams are:-

Procedural Notes

27 teams from 10 associations were submitted for entry into RUCT 35. With only 27 entrants, the group stage will consist of 6 groups of 4 teams, rather than the usual 8 groups of 4. This format requires a preliminary round to be contested by six clubs. All other clubs will be automatically qualified for the group stage.

The entry of Mazinaw Stallions (KSK) was rejected on the basis of sporting merit, due to that team finishing fourth in the Rugby Superleague. The Stallions were replaced by the Redswyth Rebels (KSK), who finished third in the Rugby Superleague.

The RUCT organizers were surprised by the appearance of a wild Cyborg Holland and slightly confused by its entrants to the RUCT. After some further investigation it was determined that the clubs from Cyborg Holland were rugby league clubs entering the IRLCC, not the RUCT. The organizers of the RUCT would like to gently ask that all entrants to the RUCT or IRLCC make it as clear as possible as to which competition their qualifiers are entering.

The organizers of the RUCT received no host bids for the RUCT final. For this edition, the final will be held at the 50,000 seat National Rugby Stadium in Scott City, Darmen. Associations may bid to host the RUCT final in future editions, but if no bids are received then the National Rugby Stadium will serve as the host site.

If you notice any mistakes, please feel free to smack the nearest Darmeni member of the RUCT organizing committee with a rotten trout. You should probably also point out what they got wrong too.

Preliminary Round
The six clubs participating in the preliminary round are the two fourth seeded clubs of Darmen and Neu Engollon, as well as four of the five third seeded clubs. Coastal Golden Chiefs (DAR), also a third seed, were advanced directly to the group stage based on their club coefficient of 71.50, which makes them the highest ranked club in the RUCT. The six clubs participating in the preliminary round were separated into two pots before being randomly drawn against each other. Additionally, the two clubs from Neu Engollon could not be drawn together.

The 24 teams participating in the group stage were divided into four pots. The first pot is made up of the reigning RUCT champions and the league champions from the five ranked associations. As Metro Saracens are both reigning RUCT champions as well as Darmeni champions, the highest ranked club by RUCT coefficient, Coastal Golden Chiefs (71.50) have also been included. The remaining 18 teams were seeded into pots based on their club ranking, with unranked clubs being seeded by the rankings of their association. Torino Terrors (NEG) as champions will be automatically entered into the group stage for RUCT 36. Should Torino Terrors not qualify as one of the top four teams from Neu Engollon, then they and the top three teams from Neu Engollon will compete in RUCT 36.
The top eight associations (Neu Engollon, Darmen, Lisander, APOC Coalition, Apox, Filindostan, Ko-oren and Hutanija) are entitled to enter four teams into RUCT 36.
All other associations currently ranked will be able to enter three teams into RUCT 36.
New associations will be eligible to enter two teams into RUCT 36.
Updated rankings can be found here. The organizers of the RUCT ask that everyone would double check the rankings of their teams and association to identify any possible mistakes.
Additionally, associations are invited to present host bids for the final of RUCT 36. If no bids are received, the National Rugby Stadium, Scott City, Darmen (50,000 capacity) will host the final once again.
The tentative deadline for entrance into RUCT 36 is hereby set to 12:00pm CST (UTC -6) on Saturday, February 6th, 2021, or approximately 10.5 weeks from today. Depending on the status of the IRLCC, this deadline may be extended to a later date to maintain the sync between the RUCT and IRLCC.

2048-49 Darmeni Rugby Union Season
National Club Rugby Championship | National Rugby Championship

SCOTT CITY - While the professional Metro Saracens franchise won their fifth National Rugby Championship title in a row - and sixth overall - many of the amateur clubs in Darmen are warning of a tough year ahead.

This past season saw the merger of eight clubs who were in poor financial condition prior to the start of play and a further two clubs have entered administration since. There are rumors that at least two mergers will take place heading into the next season.

"We lack the kind of income streams that the NRC franchises enjoy," commented Lewis Thomassen, treasurer of Leicester Square Falcons. "They get money from the TV contract, from sponsorship and their gate receipts are hundreds of times larger than ours."

"We've got to receive some kind of assistance from the Darmeni Rugby Union," Thomassen continued, "We had two amateur clubs enter administration this season, but I could potentially see three or four times that many entering administration in this upcoming season."

But the amateur clubs aren't the only members of Darmeni rugby who are in danger financially. Recently released financial records show that only one NRC franchise has been profitable in each of the past three seasons, that being present champions Metro Saracens. That number rises to only three (out of sixteen) in the past two seasons, with Liverpool RFU and Northwestern RFU making meager profits. Only five franchises were profitable this past season.

"As much as I wish we could help our member clubs, Darmeni rugby union has a long way to go to secure a firm financial foundation at its higher levels," commented DRU board member Cyril Wiley. Wiley suggested that clubs do the best they can with what they have until such time that the NRC franchises are in better shape.

"Perhaps in a year or two the DRU will be in a place to assist the elements of the amateur level that need it, but for now, they'll need to make the best of what they have. I'm sure that will involve some tough decisions, but if that's what makes our game stronger, than that's what needs to be done."

Sylvan Tolbert, chairman of Sterling City RFC, wasn't convinced by Wiley's statements. "I think the DRU is in for a rough awakening this season. I can't see amateur rugby in Darmen being able to withstand much more. We need help and we need it soon."

l'Syndicat. The Sommet rugby union championship. Ever since the removal of one certain Madeleine Pierre from her role as the sole despair inducing leader of the once hopeful Sommet de Lespoir - Literally translated into "Summit of Hope" - the subject of despair has been a touchy subject within the nation, but Madeleine's favored team, Les Désespoirs, still legally existed as a rugby union team, with the same star-studded lineup it had when she was last alive. Of course, they were still favored to win l'Syndicat with minimal, if any at all, effort, although the other 11 teams had a better chance they had at winning the championship than before.

Oh yeah, we should tell you about the format for l'Syndicat de Sommet du Rugby. Basically there's 12 teams, each one of them playing games against all the other teams twice - 22 game regular season. The top 4 teams qualify for Le Scrum, a play-off semi-final that decides not only the teams in Le Championnat, but the top 2 Rugby Union Champions Trophy spots. Of course, Le Championnat is the league final, and the winner is, of course, crowned the champion of the league. 4 points are awarded for a regular season win, 2 points for a draw and 0 for a defeat. Seems simple, right? Obviously it is. There's no complex qualifying for Le Scrum, no 3rd place games (At least not yet, let's see how everything goes), nothing. A simple 12 team format with a little playoff at the end.

Okay then, let's see how these people go on for the first time without any lingering despair in the air...

Saison Régulière - Regular Season

No surprises on who gets the 1 seed for Le Scrum, as Le Désespoirs, the Despairs themselves won the league in style, notching up 16 out of 22 wins, 2 ahead of l'Assistants who got the 2nd seed and will avoid facing the Despairs until Le Championnat should they make it. The battle for the final 2 spots in Le Scrum, however, was tight all the way down to the final day of the regular season. It basically came down to 4 teams - l'Mécanique, the Mechanics, were 4 points ahead of the 4th place Inventeurs, but then again Les Joueurs, the Players or Gamers themselves, were also separated from the Mechanics by 4 points. Les Royals and l'Aventuriers were also in the hunt for a spot in Le Scrum, but were long shots for a chance at upsetting Le Désespoirs.

Come the final day of the Regular Season, and for l'Mécanique, everything went to crap. A 10-31 loss to the rock bottom Les Soignants, the Caregivers, forced them out of Le Scrum in a display that would be considered by some as "embarrassing" and a "travesty". It was only a win for the Inventors, as they held off the Programmeurs, quite literally the Programmers, 27-7 at home while the Players won 16-7 away from home at l'Aventuriers to seal up the final spot in Le Scrum. Their opponents? Of course, Le Désespoirs. Who lost to Les Royals on the final regular season day.

Le Scrum - The Scrum

Les Désespoirs were back to their old ways again. 6 losses on the season might be much by their standards, but that was just regular season play. This was Le Scrum, AKA when things got serious. Just look at the Players, always dropping their balls and missing their field goals and losing their battles to despair! Despair was the name of the game, and a 49-5 whooping on their way to yet another appearance in Le Championnat was a time honored tradition for a team that had their philosophy outlawed in the country. The Players didn't have a chance to stop them.

As for the game between the Assistants and Inventors... It was relatively close compared to the first match, but any scoreline that has a difference of 3 drop goals is considered to not be really close. But it was still a hard fought game regardless. Now all that was separating the Assistants and the title was that team. The best in the nation. Rugby Union Champions Trophy qualification was good, but it was nowhere near enough. They had to stop the Despairs.

Le Championnat - The Championship

...By God they done it. The Championnat is usually held at a neutral site to avoid any home team advantages, but from the scoreline, the passion, the sheer ingenuity the Assistants had, it might as well have been one of their home games, a 13th in their season. And yet, these were Les Désespoirs for crying out loud! Beating them was rare, never mind in Le Championnat, where the sight of Les Désespoirs lifting the trophy had become as common as a 3 leaf clover under Madeleine Pierre. It finally looked like the era of despair in rugby union was about to end.

l'Assistants won l'Syndicat.
