Maple Leaf Bowl (OOC)

Postby Saintland » Fri Jun 28, 2013 7:36 pm

I think there should be some type of international gridiron event for national teams between World Bowls and my nation's domestic gridiron leagues use Canadian rules, so I figured I'd start this up. I just checked today and apparently the CFL season just started, so its probably good timing. Basically, Canadian football is similar to American football, but teams have 12 players, there are 3 downs, the field is 110 yards long and the end zone is 20 yards long. There's also the Rouge, also known as the Single, which is a type of score that is awarded when the ball is kicked into the end zone and the receiving team does not return it out of the end zone. Signups and host bids are open. Host bids should include all the relevant information that is usually included in those. There is a Canadian football option in Xkoranate, if you are wondering. I'm open to renaming this if a better name is suggested.

The Serbian Empire aerial assault is showing up. If 8 was easy, 12 should be even more wide open given that the field is twice as big yet there are only 50% more players.

This question is directed to any potential hosts. Did you modify a scorinator to account for Canadian rule differences compared to American football?

Not signing up (at least not yet), as Canadian gridball is not established in Sarzonia, but I might consider it if numbers are needed.

xkoranate does cover Canadian Football, so I'm assuming any hosts would use that.

Host Bid - Fioré City, Kingdom of Costa Luna

Postby Kingdom of Costa Luna » Sat Jun 29, 2013 8:25 pm

About Fioré City

Fioré City is the largest city in the Kingdom of Costa Luna and lies on the Louisiana coastline on the western border of Costa Luna and Louisiana. The city is home to much of the Costa Lunian nightlife. Just outside of the city is the bayou country of Costa Luna. Costa Luna's protection of the area makes the nation a leader in bayou wildlife conservation. Fioré City also plays host to some of the most beautiful beaches throughout the nation.

Image

To help fans get around the city, the government has installed a 34 stop metro railway system as seen to the right. The Swamp Pitch and the BNL Center will play host to the Gridiron Cup games. During the tournament ticketholders will be able to ride the public transportation system in Fioré City at a discounted price.

It is recommended that fans arrive in Fioré City by airplane or train. Fans travelling by plane will fly into Fioré City Regional Airport. All international flights fly into the Rosalinda Marie Montoya Fioré International Airport in Lake Monroe, the capital of Costa Luna. From there Princess Airways offers cheap domestic flights to the Fioré City Regional Airport. Fans travelling by train can enter Fioré City through the Houston Terminal, which connects Fioré City to Houston, Texas, or by the Lake Monroe Express station, which connects New Orleans, Louisiana to Fioré City through a transfer at Lake Monroe.

About Costa Luna

Costa Luna is a nation on the Louisiana coastline. With a majority of the national made up of bayous, three major cities reside in Costa Luna, Lake Monroe, Fioré City and Bayou Towne.

The nation is ruled by Queen Sophia Fioré, who is the Steward of the Land, until Princesa Rosalinda Marie Montoya Fioré comes of age. The government gives its citizens a lot of freedom in everyday activities, but is ever watchful of their movements. With that being said, the government will increase security in Fioré City and in Lake Monroe during the duration of the Gridiron Cup.

The Competition

I will be using the latest version of xkoranate to score the matches. I hope to have 32 teams to sign up before running the tournament. My hope is to have 8 groups of 4 teams with the top two teams in each of the groups advancing to a single-elimination playoff to decide the winner. RP is encouraged and responses will be given a score from 1-5. Since the competition will most likely overlap with the Olympics, I will keep the RP simple to avoid RP burnouts. For the most part, the required RP will consist of challenge-of-the-day. For example, write a haiku on the previous match.

Signups updated through Pilipin Repablik.

Since we have a host bid, I'm going to set a deadline of Sunday, July 7th around the time of the MD18 cutoff in the ongoing World Cup for host bids, although further bids will be accepted if they are in before I cut off bidding. This was done deliberately to reduce the chance that this event will overlap with the group stage of the Cup of Harmony.

Some questions for the Kingdom of Costa Luna:

1. I notice you've said that you want 32 signups. If it is not possible to get 32 signups, would you be prepared to run the event with a lesser number.

2. What is your hosting experience, either under this account or past accounts? Do you have experience using Xkoranate?

3. What tiebreakers do you plan on using?

4. Do you intend on using a single or double round-robin during the group stage? Would group stage matches be held in Costa Luna or would they be home-and-away?

5. Would the RP challenges be optional or would they be mandatory?

Royal Kingdom of Quebec's bid for the Maple Leaf Bowl/ World 12-Man Gridiron Cup!

Who?

The Royal Kingdom of Quebec is a fairly large nation in the Southeastern area of the region of Esquarium. Gridiron Football(Canadian) is extremely popular in most of this nation of 48 million, with huge fan support expected from all over in our large, unique stadiums. More IC information will be provided in the future.

What are your hosting experiences?

The Royal Kingdom of Quebec has hosted 2 major sporting events. I am currently the organiser of NSCAA Ice Hockey, hosting 2 Conferences, a Regional and Frozen Four of its very first tournament. Prior, I served as interim organiser and scorinator for the playoff stage of the third season of GAFA(Global American Football Association) when Vettera, the original organiser, was on hiatus.
Starting at the end of this week, I will be scorinating 2 out of 6 conferences for NSCF(NationStates College Football).

How will this tournament be scorinated?

I would scorinate this tournament using xkoranate on the Canadian Football function. Style Modifiers will be from -5 to +5 and RPs will be scored from 0 to 2 and the criteria for judging them is based mainly and creativity and how well written they are. The RP bonus will serve as a significant factor in the scorination. All RP bonus will be reduced to half after the group stage. There will also be bonus RP opportunities (that you can ignore if you want) next to some of the scorinated matches, just like how Farfadillis did on U15WC4.

What would the format be?

This format is for 12 teams. There would be 3 groups of 4. Each group would play a round robin stage in Quebec. From there, top 2 placed teams in each group, as well as top 2 third-placed teams will automatically qualify into Quarterfinals

The tiebreakers work according to this order:
-Points
-Overall Goal Differential
-Overall Goals For
-H2H Points
-H2H Goal Differntial
-H2H Goals For

Playoff Game (would be included in next matchday's scorination)

Quarterfinals would be a 2 out of 3 series. Semifinals would be a 2 out of 3 series. The third place playoffs would also be 2 out of 3 and would occur at the same time as a 3 out of 5 championship series.

Note: RP Cutoff would be at 8 pm Central Standard Time (US and Canada)

Are you going to rename the Competition?

Yes. If I'm hosting, I'm probably going to change the name to 'Maple Leaf Bowl', to fit the Canadian aspect of this branch of Gridiron Football and to emphasise historic tradition by using the word 'Bowl' into the championship of it.

When will you open the signup thread? How long will it last?

The signup thread will be opened once the host vote is done and Quebec is deemed as winner. If already with 12 teams, the very first scorination will occur 2 days after the opening of the Everyday Thread. If not, expect scorination to start 2 days after the 12th team signs up. It will last approximately 11-15 days.

1.) I would be prepared to run the event with a lesser number especially saying that the Olympics will be around very soon.

2.) This would be my first hosting experience in NS Sports (everyone has to start somewhere), but I have downloaded xkoranate and understand how it works. I have taken college classes in computer programming along with Excel, so I do understand how the program works.

3.) Tiebreakers would be Points Differential, Points For, Head-to-Head matchup. If the teams are still tied, a coin flip (best of five).

4.) I intend to use a single round-robin, unless there are groups of three instead of four which would result in a double round-robin. Assuming a single round-robin the matches would be held in Costa Luna.

5.) RP challenges are optional, but do count into the overall score. The RP is cumulative and therefore limits the damage on a missed RP day. To get a good idea of the RP challenges, I got the idea from the International Baseball Slam (viewtopic.php?f=7&t=247658).

I hope this helps.

Signups updated through Texacano. Since there is talk about opening the World Bowl signup thread soon, I have an Announcement:

In the event that the World Bowl signup thread opens before the host bid deadline, the deadline for host bidding will be approximately 24 hours after the opening of signups for the 21st World Bowl. This is to minimize the risk of overlap with the World Bowl or the Baptism of Iron. Assuming that the deadline is not moved up, there are 4 days and approximately 8-9 hours remaining until the deadline.

A question for the Royal Kingdom of Quebec:

1. In the unlikely event that we end up with more than 12 signups before the host vote concludes, would the additional signups after the 12th be included?

Unless there are 15/16 signups(which for the former I'd place a puppet), most likely not.

Also, if we are stuck with 11 signups by the time when I open it, I might sign a puppet up to make a workable number.

I know there are still a few hours until the final cutoff of World Cup qualifying, but I'm going to cut off host bidding now. Everybody that has signed up and has not made a host bid is eligible to vote. This includes anybody that signs up between now and the announcement of the results. Your options are:

1) Award the World 12-Man Gridiron Cup to the Kingdom of Costa Luna

2) Award the World 12-Man Gridiron Cup to the Royal Kingdom of Quebec

3) Reopen host bidding

4) Abstain

Please telegram your votes to my puppet Slave State by 7PM EST on Wednesday July 10th. That is around 3 days from the time of this post.

Thank you

The Everything Thread will be open sometime tomorrow- Either at around 11:00 or 19:00 EST.

I'll wait until Saturday to let 2 more nations sign in and if the number is still short by then, I'll sign a puppet nation on my behalf.

The first scorination will start this Monday, at around 16:30-17:00 EST.
