So I'm updating my rosters, which are such a total mess in excel that besides hanging onto the names, I really have to reorganize everything from scratch. And while I was putting everything together, I started to wonder what stats everybody else keeps track of. Name, age, club, position all go without saying, and some other data seems relatively obvious like past clubs and national team caps (all that good stuff in the transfer sheets), but I'd be interested to hear what other categories other people find useful to follow. Player numbers? Goals scored? What other quantifiers am I not thinking of? What do you keep track of that you think probably few others do?

I keep track of ages, positions and nationalities (and goals scored) for all starting XIs in the ANL each season (and some details on lower league players.

In addition to that, I keep total & league games played and goals scored for every foreign player, Apoxian NTer and some other players, which are saved forever in my db, as well as all previous clubs players have played for. The link to all this data is in a Google Doc: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... 64z2fkes7w

Player numbers in order to have some consistency among clubs and NT's (and because I like the idea of some numbers becoming iconic like the RL Nr. 10 or Cruyff's 14, which I blatantly abuse for some playmakers). Goals scored is something I did on my old nation, and have equipped the spreadsheet for Savojarna to handle, but so far I haven't entered it yet. Potentially you could keep track of games played for certain clubs, which can be interesting regarding certain club's record players. But that's quite a bit of work for all players in your league, so Apox's approach also makes sense.

I haven't taken record of caps/goals for a few years now, so I have records that just randomly start in season six. But I'm also considering rebooting my newswire yet again (this time with graphics, and I kinda don't want to bury my graphics on post 35 or smth like that) - basically I'm just horrible at keeping up with my domestic league.

The adjective is Savojar; Savojarnan is not a word!

Hello folks.

Does UICA accept Champions' Cup qualifying under an Apertura/Clausura using a playoff format for both tournaments?

Pretty much like a regular season, then quarterfinals and so on until final.

Uhh... I track... a lot

Final score, score after 90 mins, score on penalties, stadium, nation, competition, which edition of the competition, which stage of the competition, starting XIs, subs, goals (a whole separate data set for these, including time of goal, assister(s), how it was scored, and a bunch of other things), call ups (even if a player doesn't play a game), man-of-the-match, captain/manager for each game...

...I like data.

My rosters are very barebones. I used to track every goal as it was scored / clean sheet kept, then tallied them at the end of the season (hence how I used to be able to put goals and and eyeballed games played for players on the TW), now I do top three scorers per season, and, uh, will probably just do one goal a season. When doing league posts I tend to have this interface fit under the league post as I'm writing it, so I can quickly cross-reference rosters.

Also, for the past few windows, I've put up every player and manager I've bought or sold, to have easy access to their biographies in a single Google Excel file.

The way I understand it, you can use pretty much any format you like as long as teams have to earn their way into the UICA places.

THE CENTRE FOR EXCELLENCE

The upcoming sixth season of the Centre For Excellence has seen further expansion in the system with a Darmeni branch joining the Apoxian and Mercedinian branches and a new influx of young players hoping that this will be their chance to fast track their way to the top of the game with some big clubs.

As usual, any Apoxian/Mareibatian players can be transferred elsewhere, just TG me or find me on Discord if interested. For other nations players, you'll need to sort that out with the nation in question, but if any transfers are made, TG me and I will update the roster. Additionally, if you have any players you'd like to send to the Centre for Excellence, TG me or hit me up on Discord and I can add them to the rosters. Also not ruling out the possibility of further expansion in future seasons!

Ile Saint-Joseph's latest private sporting business venture, Groupe Garibouds, has recently purchased a franchise in Ouna's Qusmair National League, the Vadborg Aces. Groupe Garibouds is now looking for a sponsorship to help cover the cost of that investment as well as grow the franchise. Groupe Garibouds is looking for $10,000, and in return is offering a position as the Vadborg Aces key sponsor. As part of this deal, a potential sponsor's advertisements will feature prominently in the Aces' new Zawadi Stadium during games, as well as in match programs and coverage. The main offering being made is the that a potential sponsor's logo will be prominently placed on their recently unveiled kit.

If such an offer sounds like an exciting opportunity for you or your company, please get in touch. Furthermore, please feel free to reach out with alternate offers. Price is negotiable, as are other all other terms. Furthermore, it may be possible to renegotiate the name of the Vadborg Aces' stadium with the QNL, in which case we would be eager to find a sponsor willing to fund expansion of the stadium in return for its being given their name.

In the hope of hearing from you soon,

OOC: Okay, I know this is an ooc thread, but whatever. Please get in touch if you'd like to sponsor the Aces.

I also have a question, I suppose for Commerce Heights, or whoever else understands UICA rules better than I do. The franchise I made this post for is part of the Ouna's national league, and all the other franchise in the league are also owned by other users. The league is considering signing up for the latest round of UICA competition, but I have also submitted my (main's) own league for UICA this cycle. How would something like this work? I wouldn't really call it a multi-associational league: each user has only one team in the league. It's really Ouna sort of outsourcing the rping of the league. Would it just count as a normal entry then?

With the UICA falling severely out of alignment with the WC, ages have become quite skewed. As a result, I would like to request that if you have players in my leagues yoneither TG or DM their information to me as soon as possible.

With the knowledge that Jane Williamson has now become the new Manager of the Eastfield Lodge National Team, the Chromatik National Team is looking for a new Assistant Manager.

The Assistant Manager must be someone who is skilled particularly at relating to both players as well as the media, as Silian Parker, the Manager, is more of a strategist who keeps to himself.

Prior experience managing U-21 squads or big-time clubs in domestic leagues would be recommended.

If interested, please send a TG to Chromatika, or shoot me a PM on Discord.

It's been unofficially the case for a while, but the 25th Transfer Window in its preliminary stage! I will be opening it in full at the end of the CR / CE at latest, bar a UICA cutoff announcement before that point.

Below is, of course, the companion to the Domestic League Tutorial, which is the ...
TRANSFER WINDOW FAQ
So, what is the transfer window? The transfer system is how players move from one club to another, and this transfer spreadsheet is how transfers across the multiverse are conducted. North Americans might be more familiar with the term 'trades'. In football, player-for-player exchanges are rare (though not unknown) and players are generally bought for money.

Where to start? Put players you would like to see sold in the Transfer List tab. Put players who are going to be released by their clubs in the Free Transfers tab. You will have to manually approve transfers for people in the Transfer List - Free Transfers are just bought on a first-come, first-served basis.

So someone bid on my player. What now? Look at the bid in the Bids tab. You'll notice there's two different columns - Club and Player accepting the bid. Generally speaking, the Club only cares about the transfer fee and if it meets its valuation. It doesn't matter how good the buying club is - the money's the same to the selling club. The player doesn't care about the money that the selling club gets, they only care about if the selling club is good, and if they meet their expectations. Selling clubs want more money, sold players are looking for clubs with more prestige.

How do I determine what leagues are good? The UICA league rankings determine objective measures of strength. You will also want to consider the strength of the club in its given league - the Nepharim Premiership is (in theory) a stronger league than the Brenecian A-League, but your player may well prefer to go to regular A-League winners Kingsgrove than Premiership strugglers Morningstar. Most players also weigh RP quality of a given league into consideration, though only well-RPed leagues will get to the high ranks anyway.

Can I put just anyone up? A good rule of thumb is to write a description for every player in the far right of the spreadsheet. If the player isn't relevant enough for you to want to write a description for them, they aren't worth putting on the sheet. A placeholder description will do for now, but definitely have a real description up by the time the window actually starts - when the UICA cutoff occurs and Commerce Heights starts to score the international tournaments.

How can I buy players? It's the same in reverse. What players do you want to see in your leagues? If they're on the Transfer List, put a Bid for them in the Bids tab. At minimum, this will probably be their cited Valuation. If the club and the player both agree by putting a Y in the relevant tab, then it's a done deal! The player is yours.

What about players who aren't on the Transfer List? You can bid for them, too! The worst that can happen is that the other person says no.

What about Free Transfers? Just put your club and trigramme in the red New Club columns. It's automatically a done deal.

How should I value my players? And how much can I reasonably bid? Fortunately, the NSS economy is far less stratified than the real-world football economy. Instead of big players changing hands for hundreds of Euro, while most leagues outside Europe will never see a transfer of even one million, there's more parity across UICA and this is reflected in more even results. If it's your first season, your top-half teams might have a full million to spend on a transfer fee, with most of the purchased foreigners being free transfers. Your best player, if they're in the prime of their career (roughly 25-29, but youth adds value, so 24-25 is probably peak value for a player), might fetch one or two million. Other starters on your national team might go for about a million, and ambitious guys in your league hoping to break into your national team will probably fetch like half a million.

Is that a hard and fast rule? No, and there are exceptions. Maybe your league is like the real-life Chinese Super League, a low-prestige league with a lot of money. It's entirely fair to throw a lot of cash around without much prestige, just as long as you're aware of that status. More generally, nobody is going to police you for Doing Things Wrong.

What should my expectations be like for my first season? Modest. Out of a few bids for less prominent players, often in their early- to mid-30s, a few will probably be accepted - and, of course, look through Free Transfers for players who appeal to you. Be realistic, of course - a guy who is like 31 and is still an active international for a strong team is probably not going to join your lower leagues just because he's in the Free Transfers tab - but beyond those obvious cases, you don't need to second-guess yourself.

If I have a free agent player, but I care about their destination, can I put them on the Transfer List anyway? Yes. Any bid for them will be for 0 - there's no club with their contract to take the money - and you are free to accept whatever destination you'd like.

Can I start yet? So far, the window is only open in a preliminary stage. People can put their players and managers up, write rumours, and start declaring interest in players, but the actual Sales and Bids tabs, and the New Club columns of the Free Transfers sheet, are locked for the time being. There's no rush, either - you can still add new characters onto the spreadsheet after the transfer window officially opens, when the first UICA round is posted.

Have other questions, or just want to hang out and chat? Then feel free to join the NS Sport Discord channel!

As most will know, the UICA club competitions have been run by Commerce Heights (CH) for over ten years, growing into what we see today since the first TakilQuip Champions’ Cup in 2006. CH’s contributions to the community are immense, and continue to be. CH created the xkoranate scorinator and that alone makes so much else possible. And thinking back to numerous interactions during the #nssport IRC era, I think I can say CH is certainly someone I like and respect on a personal level too.

I’m saying this to put in context that a lot of participants are anxious about when the next UICA is coming. I hope the reason is not something unfortunate, and having been away for several years myself I certainly understand personal and professional commitments can and do take over.

Given the general pattern in recent times of one UICA per World Cup, it now appears to be overdue as we approach the beginning of the next World Cup cycle. People are hesitant to even send a telegram to CH to ask about UICA, for fear of seeming ungrateful about a major task that CH does for the rest of the community. I think this kinda shows exactly that we value this contribution so much - UICA has become highly integrated with the IC world and for some people the highlight of their involvement.

About a week ago, Apox did attempt to contact CH by telegram, and has not heard back although CH did log in to their nation accounts since then. I’m writing this post for two reasons, 1) hoping CH will see this, reassure me everything’s ok and we’re worried over nothing, and 2) opening up to the wider community the question of what should we do if CH doesn’t come back.

Kelssek wrote:As most will know, the UICA club competitions have been run by Commerce Heights (CH) for over ten years, growing into what we see today since the first TakilQuip Champions’ Cup in 2006.

I think this post was very well put--it is true that people are greatly indebted to and appreciative of Commerce Heights, and (speaking for myself at least) that makes it difficult to reach out with a question--the very last thing we want is to offend or be rude, and as a newly returning player I'm even intimidated by CH's stature as an NS sporting great.

However, I think it is important to continue this conversation here and am surprised that Kelssek's post did not get any responses. Again, I am aware that as a bit of a newcomer, I don't have the same perspective as others, but I have been back on nssport for almost a year now and there has been no UICA activity in that time. It feels *to me* almost like it entirely defunct.

As I see it, there are essentially three options in CH's absence. Firstly, we could simply continue to wait for his return. If people want to run more seasons for their leagues, they're of course still free to do that, without using UICA competition as a sort of time-keeping device. Others can wait to scorinate again until a cutoff is posted. As I see it, the pros and cons here would be that we would be maintaining the status quo, but it might not satisfy those who are itching for more domestic action. Secondly, we could have some kind of new tournament to tide us over between UICA seasons. This might be something like Apox's Dwile Invitational, but more formal, with a plan to run it regularly. This would provide a space for international domestic soccer (that is, between different users), without trying to do away with UICA. However, it would most likely not do as well at bringing the whole forum together. And thirdly, if we really think that Commerce Heights seems to be gone for good, the community could try to take over UICA or replace it. I feel bad even listing that as a theoretical potential option, for obvious reasons. A forum-wide consensus would be necessary here (and be part of the goal in the first place). NS sport regulars are much better equipped to figure out the logistics of such a situation, or to debate the merits of these different options.

I think there are two things that I would like to gain from this situation: better communication/community consensus, and less importantly, I'd love for my domestic calendar to sync with the international calendar.

I hope then, that this post doesn't step on any toes. Maybe it's because I'm a newbie that I feel comfortable spouting off options, and maybe I am way out of line. But I do think that this conversation should be continued, and here on the boards where everyone in the community can participate.

Just to say that the Dwile Invitational is not intended to replace UICA (it is a similar idea to a couple of Dwile Invitationals I ran in the rugby domestic newswires before taking over RUCT scorination duties to keep the tournament rate still going after PIS CTE'd). I decided to run it as I had decided to run another Apoxian domestic season, and in the absense of UICA, wanted another tournament to fill up some of the "international fixtures" involved in doing so. As they say, if you want a job doing, do it yourself.

In case of a sudden CH return and UICA cut-off, provided it is after the Dwile Invitational cut-off, I will score another ANL season, with that season's results going towards UICA and the scorinated season having the Dwile Invitational Tournament as it's "international" tournament. Thought I should post some clarifications to my reasoning to running this tournament out of the blue, as some were asking on the Discord.

I understand that the Discord regulars have been working on a spreadsheet that would allow the next UICA season to be scorinated - would be nice if someone involved in that would chip in with what the status is.

I personally don't think it would be right for us to seize control of UICA without CH explicitly giving the go-ahead. But if we do have the capability to scorinate, perhaps it should be done under a different name, under the same rules, with a view that if/when CH returns or allows it, the "new" editions can be treated as TQCC74/GC71, etc.

This idea is of course at the trial balloon for discussion stage.

The Transfer Window is being pushed forward, treating the Dwile Invitational as a cutoff. Its primary function is to keep time and seasons ticking on, not to interact with UICA tournaments directly. Apologies for the short notice.

It will open when the Invitational cuts off, and close when the regionals end to give everyone a fair chance to participate. If CH announces a cutoff in that time, I'll... recalibrate accordingly.

More broadly, I agree that under no circumstances can we yank the UICA IP, as it were. But it's a matter of time, and of, well, not being stuck in stasis for months. CH has never tried to discourage people from scoring multiple seasons within one window (afaik) - see Bonesea - and this falls under the same umbrella.

It's been pretty much ready to go for a month.
The underlying logic and scorination functions worked fine, I just cleaned up any errors.

Almost all of the changes since then have been to make it all a bit easier to use and understand.

From my research it seems like this is the place to ask about borrowing players/staff. I'm looking for a human manager from a PMT/FT nation (preferably), for my nation of anthromorphic bird people who have recently contacted humanity and is looking to strengthen relations via sport as well.

May end up with a Cool Runnings-esk situation due to not having many foot based-dribbling sports due to talons.
