Manager
Seydiya At’rod’uin (Andossa Se Mitrin Vega) (F)
Age: 39
Seydiya has proved to be more than a capable manager in her time in charge, with this Vegan having proved to be among the elite of managers. Securing an unbeaten record and a record setting performance in the Final, Seydiya brought home Valanora's record tying fifth world cup trophy in style three editions ago and has had the side performing up to expectations in all but one of her cycles in charge. The AOCAF is the only elusive title that has yet to fall to her or the Marauder machine.

Assistant Manager
Clin Massai
Age: 10, 806
The mind behind Hondo FC's rise to power, he is another one of the assistants who plays mediator between the manager and the staff.

Keeper

Veryasirion Dart, Raynor City United
1 GK
Age - 678
Sex - M
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 181lbs
The back up who has finally been given a chance to show that his success at the domestic level is no fluke. Making the key saves with impressive reflexes and positioning, Dart has proven to be a solution to what had been a usual weakness for Marauder sides.

Defenders

2 Vanacauion Haelinde, Raynor City United
Age - 673
Sex - M
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 168 lbs
A versatile defender who is quick for his size and good with his feet. Can be an attacking threat not only on set piece situations but also deliver good through balls and crosses when he does venture forth.

3 Amonron Eleneth, AC Valanari
Age - 686
Sex - M
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 171 lbs
Quick for his size, Eleneth is the prototypical centerback who stymies any and every foray opposition bring into the box.

4 Thankanion Elenelwa, Mar Sara FC
Age - 622
Sex - M
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 180 lbs
A strong and physical presence that will put some bite into the backline alongside Titenburg.

Midfield

21 Espy va Drake, Yuba United (Paripana)
Age: 739
Sex - M
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 159 lbs
After becoming a folklore hero for the lower class of the world, va Drake has made himself one of the living legends of the game after help leading the side to a title in World Cup 53. He has traveled far and wide while plying his trade, donning kits for no less than four countries clubs, and finally returned him when he signed with United before last season. Seen as the driving force in the middle of the park alongside Hawk, it is up to the opposition to try and figure out how to deal with the brilliance the winger and his other attackers have rather than them to create magic.

6 Aintôrthea Durosa, Royal Rumiatzi (Astograth)
Age - 748
Sex - F
Height: 5"10"
Weight: 144 lbs
Durosa is one of those players that can play just about any position, as her skill set is vast and adequate in multiple areas. She has done exceptionally well in her CMSC seasons, nabbing goals and assists with regularity and continued with her transfer to the Cafundeu league yet to be seen how the shift to Astograth will effect her game however. Her good knowledge of va Drake's typical playing patterns has made the two to be a devastating pair for the opposition to contain.

14 Laborious Hawk, Urbizania Wanderers (Astograth)
Age - 703
Sex -M
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 213 lbs
Words do not even began to define his talent, his talent defines words. He was awarded one of the spots that the Vanorians have in the World Cup Hall of Fame, with it being very well deserved, as he has and continues to earn everything he has been given every single day.

8 Morronuth Neltanta, Wexax United ~
Age - 734
Sex - M
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 164 lbs
A strong and physical player who uses his body well when shielding off opposing players off the ball. Lacks the pace of some of the squad but is great at keeping possession and finding an outlet pass.

28 Faeron Soldarian, Raynor City United
Age - 617
Sex - M
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 163 lbs
Soldarian continues to live in the shadow of more well known players both on the national team and with his club. Despite this, Soldarian is seen by all on the squad as the emotional leader and the linchpin the in the middle that allows the more attacking minded midfielders being allowed to play their game.

Strikers

9 Allandren Fresco, Ibini FC
Age - 492
Sex - M
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 167 lbs
Fresco has proved once again that he is suited for any role that his managers wish to give him, easily adjusting to Hearts style of play and learning his preferred moves. A great shot and football IQ make him a very dangerous attacker for the Marauders.

10 Tûrin Aerataur, Hondo FC ~
Age - 768
Sex - M
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 156 lbs
Long has he been Hearts strike partner at Hondo, now that he has replaced the legendary striker on the national team and he has made use of his dynamic shot to keep the sting of the Vanorian attack strong, if not stronger than it ever has been before.

The Under-23 side will represent the nation in their first AOCAF Cup as Kericia, and second overall. Kericia did post a 0-0-3 record in AOCAF Cup 23, but was then known as Kereca.

name / age / club

GK:
Phil Romero / 20 / Kericia City
Teddy Sharpe / 19 / North Church

Romero, keeper-in-waiting at league champions Kericia City, gets the nod in goal over non-league standout Teddy Sharpe.

D:
Stephen Rogers / 23 / Hastings
Mitch Barnes / 22 / Minetto
Jon Flores / 22 / Minetto
Allen Wheeler / 21 / Kericia Town

Al Knapp / 23 / Kericia Town
Pat Good / 21 / Scriba
Raymond Wallace / 23 / Palermo

Barnes and Flores have impressed for second division side Minetto, and are rightfully expected to be the starting center-backs. Rogers may be the best player on the team with his pace and probing runs forward from right-back.

M:
Kevin Carpenter / 22 / Kericia City
Chris Erickson / 21 / Hannibal
Terry Martin / 20 / Boylston Center
Ben Mitchell / 20 / Kericia City
Randy Hall / 22 / Scriba

Jon Meyer / 23 / Hastings
Doug Gamble / 18 / Volney
Shane Pierce / 19 / Little Vilita

Two World Cup veterans, Carpenter and Erickson, highlight Kericia's midfield. The pair will support the attack while Martin, Mitchell, and Hall play more defensive roles. Martin and Pierce are two non-league stars expected to gain the attention of larger clubs.

F:
Vince Conner / 20 / Fulton
Ricardo Rosário / 21 / Williamstown
Ted Campbell / 22 / Orwell

Normally a reserve for one of the best teams in Kericia, Conner will have a chance to shine alone up front. The other two strikers, both from smaller clubs, will likely get a fair amount of time on the pitch if and when Kericia find themselves behind in their matches.

Manager
Dale Ferguson / 43

Sacked by relegated Volney before taking charge of the U23s, Ferguson has assembled a squad he hopes can compete against heavily favored opponents. Although not much is expected of them, the team should gain valuable experience in such a major international tournament.

We can still make it!

Group 1 standing:
Group 1 W D L GF GA GD Pts
--------------------------------------------------------------
Pacitalia 2 0 0 3 0 +3 6
Carpathia & Ruthenia 1 0 1 4 3 +1 3
Osarius 0 1 1 1 2 -1 1
Ko-oren 0 1 1 2 5 -3 1

Remaining group matches:
Ko-oren v. Pacitalia
Carpathia & Ruthenia v. Osarius

You might ask yourself 'so how do you make it to the next round?'. Well... it's not very difficult. And now that we play Pacitalia, who performs quite poorly and totally does not have home advantage, it's practically in the bag. Here's how: Osarius beats Carpathia & Ruthenia. Then they'll have 4 points, C&R will have 3. Ko-oren, with a victory over Pacitalia, will have 4 points too. The more observant reader might still have an objection: 'what about goal difference?'. Well, that's easy too. Osarius wins by 1-0. They'll be on +0 GD then. Ko-oren then only has to win by 4 goals to move up to second place. Of course, if Osarius wins by more, they'll pose a little bit of a challenge to the Greenblues, but nothing to worry about. And even in the event of Osarius winning 1-0 and Ko-oren winning 3-0 (which means they'll both have +0. The following also goes for any situation where Osarius and Ko-oren end up with the same GD), we'll just have to look at the tiebreakers.
-Points: taken care of.
-Goal difference: taken care of.
-H2H result: draw, so taken care of.
-Number of wins: both have 1, so taken care of.
-Number of goals scored: taken care of, as long as the situation above plays out exactly as planned. We've scored twice as many goals as Osarius already anyway.

Some readers who have checked the number of groups, could have further questions. 'But only seven out of nine runners-up will make it into the second round! Now what?' That's an easy one. Just make sure that two runners-up do worse than us. We'll be 1-1-1. Group 2 has Thatius at 1-0-1, so they can draw. The rest of the group is at 0-1-1, but all have worse goal difference. Group 2 has us covered. If Group 4 has draws all over the place in MD3, they'll save us too. That makes us at least seventh out of nine. If that's not enough: Group 5 may draw everything too, and Group 6 may even have a team winning. Not the current runner-up, because they'll get 5 points that way (0-2-0 currently). All ties for Group 7 or 8 works too. Group 9 is exactly like Group 6. At this rate, we'll be the second-best runner-up! Should the goal difference turn out the same as some other runners-up, we'll look at goals scored. And as Ko-oren will score at least three in the last game (3-0, or 4-1, 5-2 etc.) that should be covered.

Man, we're good.

All 23 players are graded every game to see which player made progress, which worked hard enough to make it into the squad, and which could be dropped for the World Cup.
Name Game 1 2
Asgard 6 7

Time for Iwaki to look out for his spot. All other players are almost completely safe. But they still have to look out now that Ko-oren B have secured at least the second round in the Market Cup, and with the not exactly stellar results in AOCAF, this could endanger some of this squad's players. Especially the attacking line had some spectacular comebacks, reflected in the match, which was a draw this time. Norn is the only one with fitness/form issues.

"...firmly ensconced in Capagatta, Doc Lagacé, our eternally vigilant Paladins beat reporter. Doc, with tonight's match apparently drawing the lowest ratings of any Paladins match in over 8 years, would you care to fill our viewers in on what they did, or didn't, miss?"

"That's a pretty bad run-on sentence there, Matt, and I think you owe the English language an apoogy. Moving on, anyone who missed this match missed the Paladins running Vaillancourt-Bosquet and Cruselas's game plan to perfection. The Paladins ran Ibex right out of the on their way to a 3-0 victory that wasn't really as close as the score indicated."

"I'm sure every seventh-grade teacher out there will be letting know the error of my ways, Doc. How, exactly, did this 3-0 victory come to be?"

"Fred Nguyen and John Powell Hughes took over the middle of the field early and never let up. Smothering Ibex's offensive open the door to long stretches of midfield possession for the Paladins, giving Nguyen the chance to test the Ibex defense with some crisp passing. The Ibex defenders kept crashing John Randle-Cunningham and Amelio Quagliata Jr. every time they got in the box, forcing Nguyen and the rest of the midfield to spearhead the attack. They did a fine job. Ten minutes in, he sets up Benoit Séguin-Godwin from the flank, only for Séguin-Godwin to rocket his shot just over the crossbar. Fifteen minutes later, Nguyen goes back to the well, Séguin-Godwin is open a second time, and this time he drove the ball home for the first goal."

"Anything much change after that?"

"Not really. The Ibex defenders started respecting Séguin-Godwin a bit more, which gave Randle-Cunningham some space in the box. Here he is driving home the ball after a botched tackle left the ball free in the box. Paladins up 2-0 heading into half time."

"Steady as she went for the second half, then?"

"Ayup. Here's Quagliata picking up the third goal on a penalty kick after a frustrated Ibex defender let him have it in the small of the back during a corner. "

"How's the Group 9 picture shaping up?"

"So far, the Paladins remain the only side to have won a match. As such, they've managed to lock up first place in their group with six points, rendering the third and final match into something of a sideshow. Coach Vaillancourt-Bosquet told the press that he was going to use the match to give some of his reserves and younger players the start against New Gordonopia."

"What are you going to be looking for, Doc?"

"A comfortable place to go to the bathroom, Matt."

"Say what?"

"I'm gonna go camping."

"More power to you."

"Damn right."

I set sail yesterday from the stony shore,
I had no course nor direction
I set sail against the sun draped horizon
And the caw of seagulls echoing through the background
To an adventure further more.

What lasts beyond this trip I could not dare to dream,
Will I become greater for what lies beyond this venture,
Or shall it tear me down and leave me withered?
Shall I become wiser from the experience,
Or will those I hold dear think me mad from rambling?

It is never easy setting forth on some new quest,
It is always a plunge into the unknown,
The entire path may be plagued by traps and blunders,
To which an plentiful plunder may be no comfort,
Yet the thrill of adventure and the promise of something potential groundbreaking,
Makes us answer the call to which our hearts are aching.

Yesterday I set sail from the stony shore,
And now here I tumble along the waves,
I carry both fright and courage to see out all along the way,
Even failure should that come to pass,
For the heart of adventurer is the fire hardest to put out.

Eel-Cat Things Advance

Vilita & Turori 3 - 1 Quakmybush

It was the first time Vilita & Turori had squared off against Quakmybush since AOCAF XVI. Perhaps a good omen for the Eel-Cat things, as well, as they would go on to win AOCAF XVI, their most recent regional title.

After hitting a bump in the road against The Inevitable Syndicate, the Eel-Cat things knew they needed a result against Quakmybush in order to advance to the knockout rounds in the 36 team tournament that would not guarantee the second placed teams through. However, a draw against Quakmybush would likely be enough for the Eel-Cat things, points wise, to ensure a place in the knockout stage even if The Inevitable Syndicate was able to leapfrog Vilita & Turori to the top spot in the group.

Vilita & Turori wasted no time getting on the scoreboard with Turori's Lioniaa Tana scoring on a header from close range after a Vrotaoa Lorasoiba delivered Corner Kick.

Already having taken the lead, the Eel-Cat things kept the pressure up and Vilita's Xcnaio Bansoa netted a pair of goals to give the 4-time champions a 3-0 lead just 30 minutes into the match.

With the score unchanged at the half, two changes were made to the Vilita & Turori side. Both goalscorers were removed as Bansoa ceded the chance to go after the hattrick in favor of a little bit of rest, and some experience for Turorian youngster Matlya Eelador - an international debutant. The other goalscorer, Lioniaa Tana, also came off the pitch with experienced Vilitan defender Ricata Amakra getting a go.

The new-look Eel-Cats didn't put much together in the second half and even allowed the upstart Quakmybush side to pull one back late in the match through defender Ilja Kohler as the Quakmybush side pushed forward on a late corner kick, ruining a potential shutout for Haneshi Hamaaz'urii.

With the win, the Eel-Cat things advanced to the knockout round as group leaders earning a decent rank, and, a decent draw against on-again off-again side 95X. Confidence must be high going into the match as Vilita & Turori netted 7 goals the last time they squared off against 95X - including one by goalkeeper Jawz Tiiaupila. The match will take place at Adiotex-Arena in Potenza.

Should the Eel-Cat Things make it past 95X, it will get no easier, with the quality of competition in Atlantian Oceania seeing a marked increase over recent seasons, including the last 2 World Cup Finals being All-AO affairs.

Syndicatian Qualification Situation: Aspiration Speculation Humiliation Expurgation?
Also known as: Syndicate Qualify, Next Team Are One We Supposedly Aspire To, Could We Be Defeated And Knocked Out?

24th May 12013

Pomentane, PACITALIA---- The Syndicate, after a tense tie with Yelvoldia, have qualified for the group stages of the AOCAF. Yes, we've done it, ladies and gentlemen. Third time lucky, our boys in blue have finally made it past the group stages in an international event. So, you may be thinking: That's just swell, Freddie, but who are we playing next? Some team we can RAWRCRUSH into oblivion and continue our path to victory? The answer to that one is a resounding no.

The Syndicate have been drawn to face off against double AOCAF and World Cup Champions, Audioslavia. Now, Audioslavia, a nation that is seeped in history, and has had countless entwining moments with the Syndicate, now sees another in the form of what is sure to be an epic game. Thousands have flocked to the Stadio Rosa in Pacitalia just to see this unfold - after all, it's not like we've got this far before, and any game against Audioslavia is one to watch - and this will certainly be an interesting game.

ILN's top statisticians (yes, the very same ones we used the first time we went out onto the international stage) are claiming that this could be a whitewash. They've scanned the Audioslavian team, and there are some very strong players out there. Karsten Eiger, front man, a hard hitter and a bloke that Archer is really going to have to watch out for if the Syndicate want to win. James Courier, a key midfielder who has the ability to change the flow of the play and pull the team right back for those few times that the Syndicate might be able to get a ball in (Fun Fact: Courier actually has a tube station named after him in Fligsive. Nobody quite knows why, so some say it's a coincidence, but the station recently received a revamp, and now contains a mural showing the Syndicate's progress through international tournaments. Seems a bit off, if you ask me, seeing as the Flynn Arena is on a whole other line, but whatever...).

This game is a make or break moment for the Syndicate. Either way, tensions are going to be high, as these two friendly nations square off in what should be the most exciting game of the tournament! Unless there's a Syndicate - Starblaydia Final of course. Either way, we'll be there rooting for the team.

David Radic downed the rest of his coffee and looked up at his boss, Israel Klimt, who had just sighed and put down his newspaper.
"The Syndicatians are geed up about this one, aren't they" said David. Israel nodded.
"Of course. We're the team to beat. Champions of... everything. Have been every two years for... eight years now. Everyone wants to get one over on us"
"Aye, its different for the Syndicatians, though, isn't it?" replied David. Israel nodded again, and spoke after a mouthful of croissant.
"They see themselves as our equals. Or, at least, modelled various parts of their national game on ours"
"Same shirt, different colour" said David, an attempt to sound sage and philosophical.
"It'll be interesting. We've seen the videos, though, know what to expect. Losing isn't an option"
"Lads looked fit in training" said David, "we're ready"
"Of course." said Israel, having a stretch. David tried to stop himself yawning, but couldn't manage it. They'd both been up early for training and, with the players now having finished lunch and watching footage of The Inevitable Syndicate's draw with Yelvoldia, had a rare two hours free. David had something to say. He wasn't sure exactly how to say it. Israel, thankfully, gave him a helping hand.
"You thought any more about branching out? A manager's job somewhere"
David nodded, almost shyly.
"Had a call from someone in Falconwhereveryouare" replied David, pouring himself another coffee from the jug, nodding gently. Israel seemed to brighten up.
"Oh, that's good news. It's not Reedring is it? That'd be ideal for you. A big team? Top-flight team?" asked Israel. David stuttered.
"Er... no. No. National team. The guy who contacted me was from their football association. Asked if I wanted to be shortlisted for the national team manager's job"
"Oh" said Israel, a little hesitant this time. "Bloody hell.... well... well you're good enough, that's for certain. They'd be a fool not to hire you"
"You weren't expecting it to be another national team?" asked David. Israel shrugged. "I know, I know" continued David, "I wasn't expecting to be offered an international manager's job. It was a surprise."
"Offered?"
"I mean... offered an interview."
"Well you should do it" nodded Israel, though the boss looked a little less sure than he had done earlier. David detected a hint of surprise in his boss's voice, though with neither a positive nor a negative bent. He imagined Israel must have been thinking about a possible tete-a-tete between his Audioslavia and a Falconian team managed by his supposed protege.
"Not until after this tournament, of course. Interview is in early August. Couple of months before qualifiers start. Probably."
"Qualifiers might be starting early, actually" said Israel, "might be having larger groups. Nothing's certain yet"
"Well, either way. Falconian squad picks itself. Two-dozen solid, international-class players, a couple of decent ones. Plus, they wrested Abelló from under our noses"
Israel bristled. David knew it was a sore point. José Abelló was a classy left winger who had been in Israel's plans for a back-up berth on Audioslavia's left side, replacing Garrastazu, his Reedring team-mate, who had been figuring in the centre for club and, so Israel surmised, would be better in that position for his country to. Israel had promised Garrastazu a central role and had envisioned José Abelló coming in on the left. He hadn't been happy when he'd found out the young Audioslavian had declared for Falconwhereveryouare, having secured a passport in the run-up to the Copa Rushmori. Israel had had to shunt Mannestraal over to that side. Mannestraal was good, quick, very athletic, but Israel would have preferred a more thoughtful, technical player on that side. Still. Too late now.
"You'll fit in fine, there" he said, finally, finishing his own coffee. "Come on. The lads will have finished their video now. We need to go over the game with them. You got your notes.
"Of course"
"What would I do without you?" said Israel. It was usually a rhetorical question.

95X AOCAF 40 R16 RP

Postby 95X » Fri May 24, 2013 9:10 pm

Before this AOCAF, 95X National Team officials did something so dangerous it’s unknown in-character:

They put Xi Foureleven and Melissa/Michelle Mitchell into a little room and ordered each of them to settle their differences once and for all.
Five minutes later, without overhearing a war of words they were expecting, they opened the door to find each of them exchanging a friendly hug between the two of them.

During the most recent Soccer League X season, the skirmishes between Foureleven and Mitchell were well-documented. Foureleven believed this was her year to dominate the league, Mitchell the legendary two-headed woman who led 95X to the AOCAF 22 title many years ago.

Impossible? Not really; after a prank gone wild, Mitchell recalls waking up, with no recollection of her old age or death, where both brains ceased activity at exactly the same time, proving once and for all she was one person.

The best doctors in 95X confirmed that, without a doubt, it truly is the original that’s alive and well. Playing the last Soccer League X season in its entirety for the expansion Cascadia Seafox, Mitchell helped the team avoid the bottom of the standings most expansion teams languish in for years.

“I’m impressed with our effort thus far. Foureleven denied a Starblaydi clean sheet in game one, and we blew those other teams out of the stadium in games two and three. … With the region watching, I’m not going to mention much about our strategy in the upcoming Round of Sixteen showdown with Vilita & Turori. Just know that we’re ready. We have a plan in place, with alternatives if the original doesn’t work.”—Bobby Stryker, 95X Head Coach, during an in-practice Q&A session.

"You want me to do what now?"

"Please, just a proposal. Just for the tournament. You know these players."

"Look, I had a good run here, but it's over. No more. I'm done with this job, it's far too stressful anyway."

Kristijan Evinov, formerly manager of the Kinitar national side, sat at one side of the desk. Melody Pond, the Jeruselem girl who was currently in charge of the team, sat at the other. She spoke largely through an interpreter, for her grasp of the Kinitar language remained somewhat tenuous, having only been in the country for a couple of months since taking on the job. And the purpose of this meeting was - on the initiative of Kinitaria's coaching staff - for Melody to persuade Evinov to make a return to the national side as a coach for the duration of the AOCAF. Having failed to win her first four games in charge, including a 1-4 reverse against the world champions, public opinion was starting to turn against the new manager. Reports abound that she was losing the dressing room were probably untrue, but all the same, things weren't looking good...

But her deposed predecessor wasn't showing a great willingness to return to the national setup. He'd been there, done that, got the T-shirt and been kicked out immediately afterwards. He didn't feel as though he owed anything to the Football Federation of Kinitaria, who had been quick to dispose of him at the first sign of negative public opinion. He had nothing against Melody, of course; she'd done nothing to slight him, and it's not as though she'd planned to replace him as manager. She just happened to be the candidate that the Federation approached. And she was looking out of her depth so far, hence the quest to convince Evinov to rejoin his old team.

"It's going to be three or four games, if we're lucky? That's all. Then you can just walk away, no questions."

Evinov rubbed his temples. He'd already flown out to Pacitalia to have this meeting, and he was going to be here for some time anyway, having already planned to stick around to watch some of the tournament...

"I must be mad. Right, I'll do it," sighed Evinov. "But only for the rest of the tournament. After it, you'll leave Pacitalia and I'll leave Pacitalia and we'll go our separate ways, is that clear?"

"Alright, you lads know who I am, but don't get too used to the sight of me, you'll be pleased to know that I'm not sticking around. I'm here in my role as temporary first team coach, which lasts until the end of the tournament and not a minute longer," Evinov addressed the Kinitar squad in their Pacitalia hotel. "I'm doing this as a personal favour, so ignore all the rumour and the speculation, because there's nothing more to it than that. But I'm here for your next few games, so we're going to get to work, because I think you'll agree when I say that the game against Audioslavia was simply not good enough."

Evinov's first training session of his new role was overseen by keen media interest, but then, that's a natural hazard of the job to a football manager. He'd got quite competent at handling stupid journalists in his time - it was the odd clever one you had to watch out for. Very quickly, he was back into his old mentality, urging his players on from the sideline, exhorting them to move faster, go that extra yard, put that vital tackle in. Melody, he noticed, was very soft-spoken, and found it hard to impose herself on such a bunch of egos as were to be found in the Kinitaria team. He'd have to have a word with her about that before he left his position.

The players, too, seemed to be reacting well to the familiar figure of Evinov, gesturing on the touchline. He'd only been there three cycles previously, but it was him who had given a lot of the current squad the chance, and helped significantly with the development of the players who'd been there before him. He had a personality which seemed to precede him, one which seemed to inspire those around him. He was naturally a very charismatic individual. He knew this, and he used it to his advantage.

The media circus began to follow Evinov around. Tabloid rag Sport Novari wrote a scathing article condemning his return (he didn't actually see a copy of the paper in Pacitalia, he just found it safest to assume that they would do so). But after so long as a manager, it took a lot to phase him. Preparation, then, shifted to the Kericia game - the one which, many were already predicting, would make or break Melody's reign as Kinitaria manager at such an early stage. Melody handled the team selection and the team talk, as was her right as manager, but Evinov felt obliged to give her a little advice, a little inside information, on the players, and deliver a fiery rant to the team on the day of the game, telling them that it was their futures on the line as well.

Fifteen minutes in, and Kinitaria were 2-0 up. Beskid had fired them in front from just outside the penalty area before Sabčot grabbed a tap-in from close range after Romero dropped the ball at his feet. Okay, so they were playing against an unranked nation's youth side, but for Evinov, it still felt good to be back. The fans were on board - at least, for the time being - and the players had responded when they really needed to do so. And then Kericia scored. Well, that wasn't supposed to happen. Vince Conner found himself through after a mixup in Kinitaria's back-line and halved the deficit. And then Kericia scored again. It was Conner again, this time with an angled 20-yard strike that clipped the post on its way to the back of the net.

Well, that was enough to change the mood. Jeers rang around la Borreda di Campo from the sold-out Kinitar allocation, and Kinitaria suddenly had a job on their hands. As the players trooped into the dressing room, the manager tried to say something through her interpreter, but Evinov got there first. He wasn't happy, to say the least.

"F*cking listen to them out there!" he yelled. "Thousands of fans who've paid through the nose to come and see you here and we can't f*cking beat the f*cking youth side of a f*cking no-mark country!" He'd just about got a good rant going when he realised that actually, he wasn't the manager any more, and he ought to be leaving the team talks to the person who was. "Sorry, I got a bit carried away there," he muttered to Melody, out of the team's earshot.

Melody nodded uncertainly. "He is still right," she told the team. She wasn't pleased with their performance either, and it wasn't as though the players needed telling why. They knew they hadn't played well enough. Kericia... hardly any of the team had even heard of it.

The second half was a much happier affair, fortunately. Sabčot got an early second for himself to put Kinitaria 3-2 up, and half-time substitute Leon Cantacuzino restored the two-goal advantage from a header with fifteen minutes to go. From then, it was just a question of Kinitaria seeing out the game. This, they could do without any major problems. As the Kinitar players passed the ball around a defeated Kericia side to the sound of "olé!" from their own supporters, it seemed that the crowd had been won back that day.

Sure, they still had to go play Savski Venac for a crucial qualification decider. And knowing their luck, they'd get a near-impossible tie in the second round if they even got that far. But... well, they'd never been in the second round of an AOCAF Cup before. And when the time came, as it inevitably would, to evaluate Melody Pond's reign in the Kinitar hotseat, fans would no doubt point to this game against Kericia as the turning point. There was a long way to go, of course, but every journey begins with one small step. With a little help, Melody Pond had started her Kinitar journey against Kericia.

Ball In Our Goal, From Audioslavia, You Gave Us Kits, Now Show Us How To Play

25th May 12013

Image
One of the many posters that adorned Thackray Common, Fligsive, As football fans woke up early to watch the 7:45 kickoff.

Saronno, PACTIALIA---- An impossible game of football was played this morning at the Stadio Rosa in Pacitalia. The underdogs of the Syndicate faced off against a foe that has seen countless waves of attackers go for it's eyes - two-time World Cup and AOCAF Champions, Audioslavia. The opposing team was out in full force, wearing their regional flag kits just to show the fact that they are the incumbent title holders. The Syndicate ventured out onto the pitch, standing tall, also wearing their Kirola Kits which look remarkably similar to the Audioslavian home kit, after the ILA figured that looking like the world champions might make them more like them. Around the players on the pitch, the sound of 92 thousand fans, Audioslavian, Syndicatian, and Pacitalian alike (reports that a few Krytenian fans had also arrived from Rushmore on the off chance that Audioslavia might be beaten). The place was packed - and rightfully so, as this match would decide who would go on to face either the Sylvanaes Queendom or Wight in the quarter finals.

The air was tense as the whistle blew to start the match - I was on the edge of my seat, along with thousands of other fans, and the game began with Audioslavia kicking off. Immediately, the opponent attempted to make a break for the Syndicatian goal, but was shut down by some good intercepts and and tackles that really knocked the Audioslavians off their feet. It didn't take them long to adapt to our game, however, and most of the play in the first half was a concentrated champion attack on our end of the pitch. Battling against the world and regional champions proved to be a little too much for the team, as in the 37th minute, Audioslavian powerhouse Karsten Eiger made a vital connection with the ball that sent it rocking towards the back of the net. 1-0 down, the Syndicate had to think quick, and the Syndicate took the game further afield, concentrating on midfield play and short passes to prevent interception. Being on the ropes is a tricky thing to come back from, and the Syndicate just couldn't step up to the plate in the first half.

The second half saw a bit of a turn around. Some say it was the Vitamin C from the half time oranges, some say it was the Vitamin D from the Pacitalian sun, and some crackpots say it was the Vitamin LX12 that Kirola Sportswear had woven into the wrong kits accidentally, but in the second half the Syndicatians showed the rest of the world that we can be down, but most certainly not out. Short passes, quick speed and fancy footwork were the orders of the day, and just over an hour in, Adam Willis scored a brilliant equaliser that saw the crowd go wild with both happiness and anger. The throne that the opponent had been sitting pretty on had come tumbling down, but the Syndicate couldn't revel in their goal just yet - there were still 28 minutes left, and they had only equalised.

The shots came in hard and fast from the Audioslavian attack - like an arrowhead, it pierced our defence. However, our last bastion against mishandled balls, Dominic Archer, was straighter and truer than the opponent, and hit the bullseye every single time they charged for us. We retaliated, and pecked at their defence, exploiting the holes, but again, the World Champions just wouldn't let us score again. Time dragged on, and both teams went on the aggressive, with free kicks and corners being given out with increasing frequency. It was never enough, though, and by the time the 90th minute crawled round, both teams had worn the game down to a stalemate.

Manager Lewis Thackray had worked up a sweat, and after a brief talk with the team, sat down and watched the events of the next thirteen minutes unfold. Audioslavia got the ball, worked it down to the Syndicatian end, and made a shot. It went wide, and half the stadium breathed a collective sigh of relief. A long ball after a goal kick from Archer sent the ball down into the feet of Jacob Pratt, who worked his way past a seemingly tired Courier, and crossed the ball over to Mitchell. The flag went up. Offside. Piss. Shortly after, however, he was up there again, breaking away from the opponent's reign of terror and this time made the pass over to Mitchell without any trouble. Mitchell moved forward, but stumbled, leaving the ball in the middle of the box with nobody going after it. The collective weight of over 40,000 Syndicatian football fans pierced the stadium, and as both teams scrambled for the ball, unlikely face Petr Cervinka saw an opportunity for glory, and made a shot.

It sailed through the air. Imaslavii readied his hands to catch it. He jumped. He missed. The ball hit the crossbar with a clang, and fell into the net. Goal.

The stadium burst with emotion, as the Syndicatian fans applauded and chanted in celebration of their victory. They had just beaten the best team in the world, and knocked them out of the chance of winning their third regional title in a row. The team, however, knew that this was just the beginning. They may not have bigger fish to fry, but they had other fish to fry.

It seems those in charge of the tournament are trying to help the Syndicate break all of it's footballing friendships. After defeating the Bulls, the Syndicate now go on to play the Sondry Folk of Wight in the quarter-finals. Wight is a nation full of sporting history, and while they may not be the best team in the world statistically, they're a whole lot better than the Syndicate are. Looking at the stats for this tournament, Wight performed the best in the group stages out of everyone, and we performed the worst out of everyone left. Can we do the whole 'David and Goliath' thing again? We'll just have to wait and see if the Syndicatian team can keep toppling giants, on their way to new heights.

It Was Inevitable
Heartache for Bulls as Klimt's Luck Runs Out

Four tournaments in a row, four championships in a row, a run of matches that have seen Audioslavia lose just three times, to two different nations, over the course of eight brilliant years. AOCAF Cup winners in 2164, World Champions in 2166, AOCAF winners in '68 and another World Cup victory in 2170. An extra-time flurry by the fledgling Syndicatians last night stopped that golden record from extending any further. There are very few Audioslavians who could say they didn't deserve it.

It had all seemed to be going so well for the Bulls when, late in the first half, Karsten Eiger popped up with the opening goal, sweeping home a low cross at the far post that the nervous Syndicatians had utterly failed to deal with. Audioslavia had the better of the first half, undoubtedly, but a brave Inevitable Syndicate side, in their blue and green shirt with white pin-stripes which has so many echoes of the classic Audioslavia home shirt, rallied in the second half, equalised through a well taken Willis goal and should possibly have wrapped up the game before the ninety minute mark. Audioslavia had had the better possession, maintained territory in the Syndicatian half, but it was the boys in blue and green who were creating the better chances.

A barnstormer of a first-period of extra time saw both sides go all-out for the win, with Eiger and Ferz coming close for Audioslavia, Sinclair hitting the foot of the post for The Inevitable Syndicate before, on the stroke of half-time in extra-time, Luke Mitchell powered a near-post header into the roof of the net. The striker wheeled away towards the crowd only to be met by the linesman's flag, waving for offiside. Replays showed nothing of the sort.

If the Syndicatians were upset by their having cruelly been denied a perfectly good goal, then they didn't show it. The second period of extra time saw Audioslavia maintain of the possession, but the Bulls seemed clueless as to how to create chances and would be punished for their bluntness in attack when, following a swift counter-attack, the unlikely figure of Petr Cervinka popped in the area to control a pass, ride a challenge and finish past a wrong-footed goalkeeper for 2-1.

Image
Audioslavia's defence can only watch in horror as sub Cervinka pokes home the Syndicatians' extra-time winner

In a frantic final five minutes, the Audioslavians tried to press for an equaliser, but a panicky and frustrated three-pronged strike-force (following the introduction of Ferz and the debuting Arcticala Inlet striker Zekani) failed to unlock the heavy wooden door of the Syndicatian defence. Karsten Eiger would come close with a long drive in the dying seconds but it would be The Inevitable Syndicate who would have the best chance, almost extending their lead through a back-post finish from Mitchell that was scuffed harmlessly into the side-netting.

FINAL SCORE
Audioslavia 1 (Eiger 37)
The Inevitable Syndicate 2 (Willis 62, Cervinka 112)

Audioslavia's elimination from the tournament throws up a few questions about the team that will star to defend their world championship. Israel Klimt will argue that an upset was bound to happen and, with the bulk of the side still the right side of thirty, with very few WC63 or 64 veterans retiring or out of form, there shouldn't be any major shake-up of the first team.

Change, however, may be inevitable. Assistant manager David Radic has been linked with club and national manager positions elsewhere, which may necessitate one or more changes to the coaching staff. Klimt himself, while happy in the job, may feel that, after having lead the team to two World Cups and one AOCAF championship, his work as manager is done.

Either way, Klimt has a few things to think about in the run up to the next World Cup. As for now, he'll have to lick his wounds and, for the first time in half a generation, watch the final of a major interational tournament on television.

95X Goes Down, But Not Without a Fight
POTENZA, PACITALIA—Despite the 95Xers 75 minutes' of possession time and a total improvement over the last meetup, Vilita & Turori advanced after outscoring 95X in a shootout.
When Vilita & Turori had possession, Kristofer Kilpter found himself surrounded by defenders, effectively neutralizing him for the duration of the match. It took some bench warmers to lift Vilita & Turori over the top in penalty kicks after both regulation and additional time. 95X scored 2 goals, with Foureleven and Mitchell finding the net.

Eel-Cat Things Survive

Vilita & Turori defeat 95x on Penalty Kicks

The Vilita and Turori Eel-Cat Things survived the first knockout stage of the 40th AOCAF Cup in Pacitalia after being victorious after a 4-2 result in the penalty shootout after 120 scoreless minutes in Potenza.

It was a stark contrast from the last meeting between Vilita & Turori and 95x, where the Eel-Cat things slammed 7 goals past their single-title counterparts and ran away with the easy victory.

On this day, three goalies combined for a shutout on either side of the pitch and the match could only be decided from the penalty spot.

For Vilita & Turori, it was Haneshi Hamaaz'urii who started the match and survived an hour without conceding any goals before being forced to leave the field after aggrivating a muscle strain in the second half.

Mumau Atla-Siioai stepped in and had no problem leading the Eel-Cat things through the 120 minutes but the strike tandem of Kristofer Kilpter and Liinai Zakazaka seemed unable to accomplish anything in the penalty area.

Xcnaio Bansoa was introduced for a bit of spark up top but the extra time played out with no goals.

The substitute Atla-Siioai was the hero for the Eel-Cat things, saving two spot kicks while Aniara Jiurjai, Endur Rotropii, Xcnaio Bansoa and Kristofer Kiltper were all on the mark for Vilita & Turori to send them through to the Quarter Finals and a date with long-time rival Starblaydia in the fight for a semi-final spot.

All was too well within the realm. Apart from the lack of success within the sporting community on the international stages, the realm of Valanora was as tranquil as one could hope for. Even with the small failures in the international sporting arena, somehow Raynor City United was still judged to be the best club team in all the NSverse. What a strange place and thing it was to be, but that was a small matter. It was the commonwealth that concerned Orome, and to a lesser extent the region. Atlantian Oceania, it seemed lately like it balanced between a harmonious region and the verge of becoming a powder keg.

"I trust not this quiet period. There is always some new upstart that thinks they know better, that wants to stir the pot. Just look at how the Leourdo situation evolved. Ever on the precipice of confrontation even when we are a peace loving people, does this not bother you my husband?"

Tobias gave her solitary gaze as he pondered her words. Tobias had not been himself in some time, but what could be expected from someone that had seen what he had seen and did what he had done? To come out of all that and still be yourself was quite an ask and certainly one that could be forgiven if not upkept. When you were touched by the goddess to be the paragon of your time and lived up to that, then you were entitled to a little bit of not being yourself.

"Perhaps we are on that precipice, but how often are we the instigators? Few enough that even the expansion of our lands went on without interference or fanfare. We're respected for our capabilities in martial prowess but also for our reservation in not being to hasty to engage in confrontation. You should not worry so much my love, embrace this harmony while it lasts."

Orome sighed, her husband spoke wisely, but something nagged at the back of her mind. It was the feeling that something big was about to happen, though not necessarily bad, but something big. Yet she could not quite put her finger on what it was. "If only it were so simple as to take words and make them real. I'd rather be spending my time in the gardens or with my children than this sense of expectation that I have been in consumed in. Goddess give me strength and patience to see it through, whatever it may be."

It had taken awhile, but Orome had eventually embraced Elune as her deity, despite not being Vanorian herself. Seeing Orome seeking Elune's embrace, it was both a moment and pride and concern for Tobias. "Whatever may come, we will see it passed. We are the oldest of the races, the most blessed, and the most fair. We have the strength and resolve to withstand whatever the worlds have in store, good or ill. Take comfort in our heritage and embrace those around you. We will see this through."
