Notes
Despite this being our first *world* rugby tournament, the Apoxian squad has had experience in rugby before, with the team competing in two Esportiva Union Cups and the Zackendel Challenge Cup, with the team performing quite badly in all three tournaments. This has led to a change of coach, with Jakwob the Unruly returning to Old Guard to be replaced by Henry Thornton, past coach of JK Memorial Squad. The kicker for the team is George Lockwood, and the star players are James Lidgley, Henry Monteforth, Tom Tzion and Wilfried Puskas.

Presenting the Federal Team

Postby Free South Califas » Fri Apr 19, 2013 9:03 am

In the four years since the 19th Rugby Union World Cup, much has changed in South Califas rugby. Having braved their first World Cup, topped the three 1-0-3 teams in their group not to advance, and voted in their first elections, the Califans are back with a new-look Federal Team. But it wasn't only the international game which developed in FSC: the Federal Rugby Union also changed dramatically, as Riverside County added to their previous championship by winning an unbelievable four in a row, felling Imperial and Santa Barbara Counties and Los Angeles County twice on the trot, as well as making the occasional splash in RUCT alongside Los Angeles and Imperial Counties.

With the new season put on hold until the RWC concludes, Riverside County manager Ezra Bienvenido became available to manage el formerly rudderless Diezcondado in the World Cup. Empowered by the Rugby Assembly to make wholesale roster changes, he replaced retired players, promoted the best interchange players, and replaced several starters and bench players. The RA also resolved that Bienvenido would be expected to bring home at least a 50% record in the group stage from this edition, and a qualification within the next three Cups at most.

Hooker: Vincentius Parthenia - 33 - Orange County (FSC)
Number 4: Gemma Brown - 37 - Ventura County (FSC)

Reed Sebelius - 37 - Kern County (FSC)
Zara Bracegirdle - 33 - San Luis Obispo County (FSC)
Carlos Puentes - 31 - Santa Barbara County (FSC)

Hutanjians are of stockier, Polynesian build from an island chain in the Wishton Sea (somewhere vaguely in the South Pacific). They share this island archipelago with Kenega, a peaceful tourist destination, and The Cardwith Islands, who they fought a brutal civil war with, resulting in Cardwithian independence. Cardwithians and Kenegans play in the Wishton Rugby Union with Hutanjian clubs and are considered ethnically Hutanjian. Hutanjians are not the fastest runners usually, but they're like tanks and harder to bring down. Also, they do their version of the All Blacks haka, called the Panehu, before every match. Besides Christianity, the other dominant religion is Hapalaku, a Santeria-voodoo like practice. The Panehu is a tribal warrior dance/strut that stems from Hapalaku. Feel free to RP your reaction to that.

Notes

Saintland has a very rough style of play and very few fouls in our national league, so don't hesitate to card Sanctii players, especially if Saintland loses. Rugby is the 3rd most popular form of football in Saintland. It is nowhere near as popular as soccer or gridiron. It also is not as popular as baseball, ice hockey or basketball. Rugby is roughly as popular as handball in Saintland. A RL comparison would be soccer in the US. The Saintland rugby team doesn't have the high expectations that come with representing Saintland in any of the big 5 sports. The Saintland National Rugby Union Team has 5 brother combinations in the starting lineup. This team lacks a star player. Unlike the usual Sanctii captains, Desidenius is not a star player. He is a veteran who captains the St. Petrus rugby union team. Desidenius is known for his veteran leadership, but he is just a good player. Even Lucius Curius, the MVP last season, is not a superstar player. If the Sanctii perform well, it will be through team play, not through the dominance of any single player. They are relatively tall players and most of them have played gridiron at the youth levels.

Head Coach: Peter Teripane, 54
Peter Teripane, the head coach of the Mapletish Rubgy Union National Team since their participation in the URA Rugby Union Championships XXXV [URUC], where the All Reds failed to beat their closest rivals, the All Blacks to the URUC title however Teripane has guided the Lions to two URUC tournament victories and a gold medal in the Uralympics XLV. An entry to the Rugby Union World Cup will be the All Reds' first attempt in the multi-verse stage and would prove to be a well needed challenge for Mapletish.

Assistant Coach: Daniel Frederik, 40
Daniel Frederik, the assistant coach of the Mapletish Rugby Union National Team since Victor Cornélio's management, before Peter Teripane stepped into the Mapletish rugby union scene. Under the guidance of Cornélio, the All Reds won the URUC title three times in a row and dominated the rugby union scene in the URA before the All Blacks came out top in the XXXV URUC. Frederik was also approached by several clubs and countries most notably the All Blacks. However he rejected the offer and chose to stay.

The Buio'Dzz
Before every match, the team members (including the designated substitutes for the match) will perform a traditional ritual, called the Buio'Dzz on the pitch just before play begins. This is one of the many tribe war dance from the aboriginals of Mapletish, meant to awe their opponents, this is similar to the [RL] New Zealanders' haka before their matches. This would be performed unless the hosts of the match in question object to the ritual.

NORTHERN SUNRISE ISLANDS TEAM FOR THE RUGBY WORLD CUP 20

Heck, if anything else, Northern Sunrise Islands is easily the country with less knowledge about the sport to ever enter the field. Given the sport is known fully only in small circles of people in the country, a couple of universities actually field teams of the sport and tend to play against each other during the year, just out of fun. Anyways, they decided to send a team for the tournament just to pressure the country in re-starting a rugby league eversince the Triunvirate Tournament was de-activated.

Licentian National Rugby Union Team

Rugby union is beginning to gain a rather large following on the Islands, but with the sport currently amateur, Licentian players can only either play alongside a job, or head abroad (which all of these players wish to do). Head coach Leland Smith has named an unchanged squad from that at the nineteenth World Cup in Saugeais. Proponents of the sport hope that, with a good performance in Ka Mate, the support will be there for a professional league on the Islands.

Head Coach: Leland Smith
Backs Coach: Graeme Paterson
Forwards Coach: Ollie Morrison

Starting XV:
Loosehead prop – Stephen Hay
Hooker – Ajay Muir
Tighthead prop – Jake McLean
Lock – Lewis Wallace
Lock – Lukasz Brown
Blindside flanker – Arlo Fraser
Openside flanker – David Reilly
Number eight – Doug Murphy
Scrum half – Kody Wallace
Fly half – Cory Donaldson
Left wing – James Young
Inside centre – Arron Shaw
Outside centre – Conner Reilly
Right wing – Jude Thompson
Fullback – Malachy McDonald

Reserves:
Forward – Roddy Douglas
Forward – Sandy Reid
Forward – Aron Smith
Forward – Bryn Aitken
Back – Jackson Wood
Back – Maxwell Black
Back – Frazer Hill
This nation has now been reformed as the Licentian Isles. Please direct anything intended for me to that nation.

"Good Evening, Neu Engollon. Bien-Welk! This is Magda Wertauer on Primetime NETV Sports 7 Update. Tonight we go to the lockeroom of our beloved Goats as they cool off from their last practice here in the Confederacy before shipping out to Ka Mate to represent us in the Union World Cup. I got an exclusive interview with Willy Hoerner and Jules Latrent to talk about Neu Engollon's prospects..."

"Um...hi, Magda. Listen I know you got a press pass, but this is a little, um, too intimate, ya know?"

"Yeah, Magda, we're still using the stalls here..."

"Oh, you guys, always kidding around. Like my brothers. So, Willy, what do you think of the Goats' grouping for the upcoming rounds?"

"I thought we were doing this in an hour? Well, let me pull my pants up here...Group? Eh, interesting. We have a lot of respect for all our fellow international squads out there. Quite honestly, it's a bit of an unknown. We've run up against a few of these guys or watched some of them play in the Sevens Cup, like Mapletish and Ibex."

"Yeah, some pretty well established, high-profile teams. Sevens is a lot different game, but you still get a hint of their style from it. Plus we have the hosts in our group, that's going to be interesting..."

"Oh Jules, look at your...those-..."

"I'm married, Magda."

"Erm. So you think the home crowds will really boost Ka Mate? That match could be your toughest, don't you think?"

"Eyes up here, Magda. Yep. Could be the toughest out of the group, for sure. Coach Cosento has been reviewing films with us for a lot of these guys. A lot of 19th Cup footage and some of the regional tourneys they play."

"We get out there and come up with some counter plays to their most commonly run plays. Then down to basics: pass, maul, ruck, drive, throw some kicks and lineouts in there and ya got a pretty good practice. So, um...we're beat, Magda..."

"Yeah, we're gonna go get some brew-"

"HEY! No, we're just all turning in, to keep fresh, ya know."

"You guys are going out for beers? Maybe I'll see you out. Where ya going?"

"Um, ya know, that place...Gerszdxmmmzzmmz."

"Huh? Where?"

"Thanks for coming in Magda, always good to see you."

"Yeah, backing us like a champ! You're da best, Magda!"

"Aw, gosh, thanks boys. OK, back to the studio..."
TG me with questions if you got some, especially about GE&T or PMCs.

The team is pretty much the same as the 19th Rugby World Cup, only they know are more scattered around the Ko-orenite Rugby League. Following the growth at the 19th Rugby World Cup, the association decided to keep everything as close as the previous cup, to have the team grow together. Might any player drop out injured, there are talents in the sidelines that are more than willing to take over!

Today, Subramani Rugby Association announced the team that would take part in the Rugby World Cup 20. Hence the Rugby Association has decided to send a big coaching team to make sure Subramani Rugby team is well prepared to take on the world class opponents.

Rugby Union World Cup 20 Preview

(SP) The Kingdom of Saintland is entering the Rugby Union World Cup for the first time. The team that will represent our Kingdom in Rugby Union will be captained by Marcus Desidenius, who will play at the Number 8 position. With attention currently focused on the Cup of Harmony and the World Bowl, the National Rugby Union Team will likely be playing in relative obscurity, at least early on in this competition. With the International Basketball Championship, the Swamp Soccer tournament and the Triple Crown about to start soon, there are alot of events coming up in the Kingdom of Saintland. In this environment, the Rugby Union team will be representing our Kingdom. "We are excited to get the chance to play against the best rugby players in the world. I am hoping for a strong performance in this competition to raise the profile of Rugby in the Kingdom." - Marcus Desidenius

Rugby has never been as popular as soccer or gridiron in the Kingdom of Saintland. Instead, it is a niche sport. It is that 3rd football with the weird rules. Unlike the 12-man sides in Saintland-style gridiron or the 11-man sides in soccer, in Rugby Union teams are made up of 15 players each. In Saintland, all 3 varients of rugby are played, typically by the same players. The Rugby Association alternates between Union, League and Sevens rules. Due to a lack of interested players, Sevens is the most popular form of rugby at the high school level. Rugby matches typically struggle to draw interest because they are invariably competing with more popular sports. Rugby doesn't just have to compete with soccer and gridiron. The sport also has to compete with baseball, basketball and ice hockey. In fact, rugby might not even be the 6th most popular sport in the Kingdom because handball is a very close competitor.

The Sanctii will be playing their home matches at Via Damascus Stadium in St. Paulus. This is the first time that the largest city in Saintland has hosted international competition. The King's Government is hopeful that the people of St. Paulus will turn out to support an international rugby match in their city. Whether they actually will turn out is currently unknown.

The Kingdom of Saintland was drawn into Group B. In their opening match, they will visit Mapletish. Their home opener in the 2nd match is against Neu Engellon. That is followed by a vist to hosts Ka Mate and a visit to Ibex. Lastly, the Sanctii visit Licentiapacisterra at home. The schedule is reversed for the second half. There will be a day off halfway through the Group Stage. After group stage finishes, any tiebreaker playoffs will be held the following day. After a scheduled day off, The cup rounds begin and go until a champion has been determined. For the time being, all Saintland matches from the Rugby Union World Cup will be on Royal Three. If you want to see a match that does not involve the Sanctii, as always it will be streamed live and on-demand on Sanctustube.
