Postby Sicoutimont » Wed Apr 10, 2013 4:26 am

Beach Cup VIII!

Welcome to the IC Thread of the 8th Beach Cup, which will be hosted in the nation of Sicoutimont! Sicoutimont is a fairly large nation on Rushmore's southeast coast. The capital city, which some teams will be playing in, is Lac-Drouin, which is on the large lake of the same name. The currency is the Sico, which thrives due to the economic reforms of the current Prime Minister, Niles Coaches. Sicoutimont is a Constitutional Monarchy, with Emperor Jean III as the head of state. RailSicoutimont, the national rail link, offer the quickest way to get from venue-to-venue, but if you're going over a long distance, the national air carrier, AirSicoutimont, can get you in between major destinations for cheap prices. Other large cities in the nation include Riviere St-Denis, and St-Simeon. So, who's signed up for this tournament? Teams are listed in order of Signup, with rank in parenthesis.

Stadia

The stadiums for Beach Cup VIII were selected by the Sicoutian Football Association, who picked 12 stadiums for the hosting: 10 on beaches already made, and 2 temporary stadiums. The stadiums are centered around 3 different areas: the Central Lakes area, including 2 beaches on Lac-Drouin, one on Lac-Geneve-du-Sud, and one on the Riviere-Drouin. Sicoutimont's south also have 4 stadiums, all on the coast of Baie-Trinite, and the East have 4 stadiums, along Baie-Eternite. 2 groups will be assigned to each area, with all of their matches being played here until the playoffs. So, without further ado, here are the 12 stadiums!

Central Lakes Stadiums
Lac-Drouin Beach Cup Stadium
Temporary
Nearest City: Lac-Drouin
Description: This stadium, a temporary one constructed for the Beach Cup, is located right downtown of Lac-Drouin, at the delta of the Riviere-Drouin, where it meets the lake. The beach is called Pontpierre Beach, and this is one of the most popular beaches in Sicoutimont. The beach is located in Lac-Drouin's northeast end. When you are not at the pitch, there's a city to enjoy; Lac-Drouin is the capital of Sicoutimont. You can visit the many museums, or even go to 7 Rue Parliamentre, the main artery of the city, to visit the National Parliament. If you'd like something more historical, the Tomb and Castle of Empress Olivia, the greatest monarch of Sicoutimont, is located in the Vieux-Port, located west of the beach. Another site to see is the current residence of Emperor Jean III, the Drouin Hall, located directly across the river from the parliament buildings, the Pont Lapierre connects the two. When you are at the beach, enjoy the warm temperatures and bright days that come with any Lac-Drouin summer.

Pierre-Champlain Beach
Nearest City: Lac-Bouchard
Description: Pierre-Champlain Beach, named for the explorer who discovered Lac-Drouin in 1563, is located in the Nord-Drouin Parc Nationale, one of Sicoutimont's 8 National Parks. The nearest city is 12km away, and is Lac-Bouchard. The City Centre and the park are connected by Highway D-17, the provincial highway, or exit 231 of the N-402 expressway, which connects the northern border city of Orleans with Lac-Drouin, passing through Lac-Bouchard. The beach is a popular one among locals, and a hidden gem where people from the city come up for the weekend to enjoy the lake, away from the city. In the park, you can see the rolling hills and streams of the East Drouin Coast, and in the city of Lac-Bouchard, located 12km north, situated on the lake, you can see a modern, quiet, cosmopolitan city which seems to live by the waves. Watersport is popular here, and you can take boat trips out to the remote Ile Oriales, where the Osmanak Native Tribe live. The Osmanak and Aspanola make up 90% of Sicoutimont's indigenous population; the Aspanola being 5% of the total population of Sicoutimont, and the Osmanak 3.2%. Also on this island is Fort-St-Jerome, a national historic site. When at the beach, enjoy the summer evenings in one of the most beautiful spots in Sicoutimont, and let the cool breeze help you prepare to fight for victory.

Lac-Geneve du Sud Beach
Nearest City: Lac-Geneve du Sud
Description: The smallest beach in the Central Lakes group of stadiums, on the second largest lake: Lac-Geneve. The stadium is located on the beach in the east part of town; Lac-Geneve du Sud is on a peninsula jutting out into the lake. Lac-Geneve City itself is a university town, with Universite-Centrale's campus here; Prime Minister Niles Coaches was educated here. Fort-Geneve, a national historic site, is located on the hill overlooking the base, and is still used by the Imperial Sicoutian Navy as a lookout base. A naval base is located to the west of the city, with ships coming from the Baie-Trinite arriving via the Riviere-Drouin and Geneve Canal, which connects the city to the river. Enjoy the cool, laidback atmosphere of Lac-Geneve du Sud, and let the sounds of Sicoutimont's largest inland port ring in your ears as you take on the nations of the world.

Riviere-St-Denis Beach Cup Stadium
Temporary
Nearest City: Vasal, Riviere St-Denis
Description: The second temporary stadium, Riviere St-Denis Beach Cup Stadium is located in the suburb of Vasal, off the island Riviere St-Denis is on. Looking across the river, you can see the bright lights of the 3rd largest city in Sicoutimont. Riviere St-Denis is home to the first settlement in the nation, Port-Royale, where the French, under the command of Pierre Champlain, spent many a winter. Vasal itself is a clean city, with some large buildings, but it's more like a small, quiet suburban city you would expect. At the beach itself, don't let the rapids of the Riviere-Drouin break your concentration as you prepare for your match on a quiet, beautiful beach.

Groups Playing in the Central Lakes Area: Group E and F

East Sicoutimont Stadiums
4 stadiums; 2 on the mainland and 2 offshore.
Mauricie Beach
Nearest City: Val-Maurice
Description: The northernmost beach, in the city of Val-Maurice. Val-Maurice is a city in the foothills of the Mont-Rouge mountain, the tallest mountain in the nation. It is laid out with the city being centered around the ocean, with numerous beaches along the coastal shore. Mauricie Beach is the largest of these, named for the founder of the city of Val-Maurice. Catch a show at the Val-Maurice Centre for the Performing Arts, where movies from all over Sicoutimont and the world are screened daily. Boats ferry you from the city centre to the Ile-Maurice National Park, the smallest National Park of Sicoutimont. The climate here may be colder than the other stadiums, but you'll still enjoy your time here in Sicoutimont's north.

Simeon Beach
Nearest City: St-Simeon
Description: A large beach in Sicoutimont's largest city, St-Simeon. The beach is located just outside the city centre, in the most-visited tourist city in the nation. You can enjoy the culture of the east district, the Renaissance-style architecture of the west end, or the modern metropolitan atmosphere of the downtown core. The beach itself is located in the west end, right near where it merges into the new city. Restaurants, museums, buildings, are all around here, and the Imperial Sicoutian Ship Eternite is based near here. Tour the city when you are not playing, it's easily the most beautiful city in the nation. The calm, turquoise waters of Baie-Eternite will provide a perfect backdrop for your matches on Simeon Beach.

Playa del Ciudad
Nearest City: La Espanola
Description: A, Playa del Ciudad. The first of 2 beaches located on the islands of San Cristobal. San Cristobal is the warmest area of Sicoutimont, and also features a largely Spanish population. 86% of the population are or are descended from the Aspanola people. These people spoke a language similar to Spanish, Aspanol, but that changed after the discovery of the islands by the Spanish. San Cristobal is an archipelago located 141km off the coast of St-Simeon. You can reach the islands by charter plane, or if you somehow have the time, a boat that is a 4 day journey, stopping at the port of Baie-Eternite. Once at the islands, get caught up in the splendor of the Aspanola tribal dances and traditional buildings, and let the warm summer breeze push you towards victory at Playa del Ciudad.

Playa Gobierno
Nearest City: Isla al Este Municipo Regional (East Islands Regional Municipality)
Description: In the resort city of Isla al Este, the Playa Gobierno was built in 1984 by the Communist government, and originally consisted of a pier, a hotel, and a few villas. Now, hundreds of people travel here for the lush resorts, beautiful hotels, and the awesome party atmosphere of the Agua de la Calle, the main route through the city. You can visit the site of the Battalia de Canoa Valle, the 1842 clash between the Aspanola of the area and the government forces. The Aspanola of the region were victorious, but suffered immense casualties: their entire village of Hondarzio was burnt, 1500 of the 1900 population were killed, and today the descendents of the 400 have all moved to the larger population centres for the Aspanola, such as La Espanola or Ciudad Cristobal. The Eastern Aspanola still inhabit and dominate the local population of the area. During the game, you'll love quite possibly the most beautiful beach in Sicoutimont.

Groups playing here: Group C and Group D

South Sicoutimont
The four beaches here are situated all around the 5 southern provinces of Sicoutimont.

Beaudette Beach
Nearest City: Beaudette
The westernmost beach being used for the tournament. Beaudette is the largest city west of Lac-Drouin in the nation, and is the gateway to the rest of Rushmore: the Cassadaigan city of Brattleboro is northwest of the city, along the border, and the train station in Beaudette is the 2nd busiest in Sicoutimont, after that of Lac-Drouin. In the city, there's not much to see other than a vibrant downtown core, and many museums about the battles that took place here during the 1st Sicoutian Civil War. On the beach itself, Beaudette is the only coloured beach in the nation; it is pink, due to the coral reef nearby. Many enjoy Beaudette, and you will too, as you take on the pink sand.

Pierre Beach Municipal Beach
Nearest City: Pierre Beach
Beach is in the city's name, and Pierre Beach offers some of the best beaches in the nation, trailing only San Cristobal in resorts. Pierre Beach didn't have many tourist attractions until recently, when Stade Pierre-Beach and SportCity were built. SportCity is an undergroup metropolis, featuring subway lines, shops, hotels, and even condominiums and restaurants are under the walls of Pierre Beach. Stade Pierre-Beach is the largest stadium in the nation, and was built to host Sicoutimont's national football team. The modern metropolis of Pierre Beach is a grand host city for the 8th Beach Cup.

Presqu'ile Beach
Nearest City: Edmunston
Presqu'ile, almost an island. It's just off the coast of Edmunston, and is a peninsula jutting out into Baie-Trinite. 22km away from Edmunston, you can reach Presqu'ile by the N-86 highway, which runs from St-Simeon south to Edmunston, then continues north to Presqu'ile, a small suburb of Edmunston. Edmunston is a watersport paradise, like Lac-Bouchard, with jet skiing, waterskiing, waterboarding and surfing all being popular here. Fishing is also popular, and the name for lots of local sporting teams is the Edmunston Anglers. On the beach, the climate is warm and the sand is soft, and the matches will be looked forward to here.

Ile de Loup Beach
Nearest City: Ile de Loup
Ile de Loup, on an island south of Pierre Beach, is home to the Ile de Loup Beach, which features palm trees, tall grass, and white sand. It's on a natural harbour, and is just outside the city of Ile de Loup. In Ile de Loup, you can see the old French and Spanish colonial forts, and remnants of the British town of New Sanderling. The battle that raged here between these 3 nations first saw the English and their Native allies, including the Mainland Aspanola and the Sa'xo, defeated the French in a battle, capturing Fort-Louis. Then, the battle between the English and Spanish ravaged the island, and by the end of the English victory, the English left the island as it was now worthless. The Sa'xo remained, and allied with the Sicoutian government who bought the land from the English in 1806. Visit these forts, and the tropical paradise of Ile de Loup Beach, in your stay here. Ile de Loup is reachable from the mainland through charter airfare, or by the 17km long Pont Dupuis, which takes you right into the city. Look forward to your matches here in the heart of Sa'xo territory.

Groups playing here: Group A and Group B

Stadiums for the game will be announced along with the score. For the playoff rounds, stadiums will be announced at the cutoff of the previous round, when the fixtures are listed. The final match will take place at the Playa Gobierno, and the 3rd place playoff will be at Lac-Drouin Beach Cup Stadium

Notes

Saintland has a very rough style of play and very few fouls in our national league, so don't hesitate to card Sanctii players, especially if Saintland loses. This is a team of World Cup team prospects, captained by Philippus Vagionius. Vagionius is the younger brother of Stephanus Vagionius, the striker for the World Cup team. Philippus Vagionius has dominated the League in Saintland this season, becoming the starting striker for St. Paulus in his first year and leading the League in goals by a large margin. The Barrius brothers are twin brothers. Both of them are capable midfielders. Their offensive skills are their strength. Plinius is a capable center back who will be tested in this tournament playing as the only defender in the starting lineup. Duronius has the most experience of any player on the team. He is currently in his 3rd season in the Saintland League. The remaining players are first year and second year players. The players on this team know that they are being evaluated and if they have a strong performance in this tournament, they may get a spot on the World Cup 65 roster.

Subramani, being an island has loads of beaches and football has been played informally on them for a long time. However Subramani did not have any official Beach Football domestic competition and it was mostly played only by school kids in the evenings and the working professionals during the weekends and during family get-togethers. So it was a bit of a surprise when Subramani decided to take part in the Beach Cup, competing against teams with wonderful experience in this format. There are few coaching camps organized in summer across Subramani, and it was decided that the coaches of the club would be in charge of selecting the team for this premier tournament. John Bakeman who has been running Beach Football camps for past 20 years was entrusted with not only selecting the players, but also in coaching the team during the competition. William Invarity would be his assistant, and this 40 year old also has loads of experience coaching the kids in summer camp in Subramani, but for both these fellows, it would be first experience of managing adults in their team. Normally their only interaction with adults was when they come to pay fee for their kids for the coaching camps.

Coach – John Bakeman
Coaching Style: Loves Computers and Presentations; does tend to do most of the coaching outside the field in front of computers.

Assistant Coach: William Invarity
Coaching Style: Hates wasting hours outside of playing field. His only coaching strategy is to organize lot of inter squad matches and let the players learn as they play rather than organizing specific sessions.

Starting Team:

Adam Billly (Goal Keeper, Vice-Captain) - Only player in the squad known for his calmness and Level Headed Approach to the game
Saran Warren – Defender – Aggressive player, known to commit lot of hard tackles and foul, and if upset could even foul his own team mates, hates both the coaches.
Gloan Mcrith – Defender – Reliable Defender, normally calm and composed except when opponents speak ill of his girlfriend, he could get extensively angry.
Steve Kumar – Mid Fielder (Captain) – Aggressive player with limited skills, but known for this ability to fight it out and score crucial goals during tough situations
Poruky Straighter – Mid Fielder – Aggressive player with loads of talent, but could turn up to the matches drunk.
Matt Ducker – Forward – Player who loves to score goals, he likes to intimidate the opponents with his staggering approach.

Bench:

Iron Belly – Goal Keeper
Jason Pavam – Defender
Parotta Ali – Defender
Mark Kumar – Mid Fielder
Parana Lyemen – Mid Fielder
Justin Karren – Forward

Style Modifier - +4

(OOC: Group Draw and Stadium Information Now Edited Into the OP, First Matchday is Sunday!)

Sicoutimont Royales Roster and Information for Beach Cup VIII, on Home Soil/Sand

While the Sicoutian Football Association jumped up and down at Sicoutimont being chosen as host of the 8th Beach Cup, some people weren't so thrilled. "Should we not make sure we won't get thrashed before we host a tournament?" Maybe they were right. Sicoutimont have never participated in a Beach Cup before, and Beach Football is mostly a niche sport in every part of the country but the south, where people live or die by the sport on Sicoutmont's beaches. The home side go into the tournament unranked, in a group with top ranked side Western Cuba. So, who did the SFA pay off to represent Sicoutimont at home? Find out!

Starting Roster
GK-Mariano Santa Valla-La Espanola, St-Simeon Province
DF-Vix Zarafanak-Ile de Loup, Pierre Beach Province
DF-Berube Alexandre-Lac-Drouin, Sicoutian Capital Province
FW-Jorge Mario Colerga-La Espanola, St-Simeon Province

DF-Jose Argenlio-La Espanola, St-Simeon Province
FW-Niles Beraband-St-Simeon, St-Simeon Province
FW-Petr Marekson-St-Lazare, St-Georges-du-Est Province

Looking at the roster, out of the 10 players, 4 are Aspanola, including 3 on the starting roster, 1 are Sa'xo, and 5 are from the mainland. Mariano Santa Valla and Jorge Mario Colerga are excited to have the opportunity to play in Sicoutimont, and the Aspanolan core hope to advance to a playoff match so that they get the chance to play at a home stadium. Is it possible for Sicoutimont to advance to the playoffs? Let's look at the schedule:

MD1-Sicoutimont vs Kriegersen
MD2-Sicoutimont vs United Nations of Slavia
MD3-Sicoutimont vs Western Cuba
MD4-Sicoutimont vs Lukquarel
MD5-Bye

2 ranked teams are in the group, including current world no. 1 Western Cuba. The Sicoutians will have to upset Lukquarel, and beat the 2 other unranked sides to have a hope of advancing. Tune in early next week, when Sicoutimont take on the unranked side from Kriegersen!

Beach Cup VIII Preview

(Saintland Press) For the first time, the Kingdom of Saintland has entered the most prestigious tournament in beach soccer. As the National Soccer Team continues their strong performance in qualifying for the 64th World Cup, the 8th Beach Cup is about to start. This tournament, held in Sicountimont, is a soccer tournament played on a beach between teams of 5 players. Substitution is unlimited in beach soccer. "I'm honored to be chosen as the captain for the Kingdom of Saintland's National Beach Soccer Team. While I wish I could play alongside my brother Stephanus in the World Cup or Cup of Harmony, I am grateful to the King for the opportunity. Since I found out about our entry, I have familiarized myself with the differences between normal soccer and beach soccer and I have prepared a team of the best young players in the Soccer League to compete in international beach soccer competition. We hope to prove ourselves and earn sports on the squads for the 65th World Cup and the upcoming Summer Olympics." - Philippus Vagionius

Teams in the Beach Cup were drawn into 6 groups of 5. They will play a single round-robin over the course of 5 days. The top 2 teams from each group will advance to the Round of 16, along with the top 4 teams that finish 3rd in their group. The Sanctii were drawn into Group B. On the first matchday, the Sanctii will face Gaveo. Matchday 2 will be a bye for the Kingdom of Saintland. On the 3rd matchday, our Kingdom's opponents are Shadowbourne. Shadowbourne is familiar to sports fans in the Kingdom of Saintland as the hosts of Arena Bowl IV, a tournament won by the Kingdom of Saintland. The Sanctii face Eastfeld Lodge on the 4th matchday. On the final matchday of the group stage, the Kingdom of Saintland faces West Guiana. West Guiana hosted the recent Baptism of Iron, where Prince Petrus's turnovers resulted in an early exit for the National Gridiron Team. In Group B, Shadowbourne and Gaveo are also unranked. Eastfeld Lodge is the 4th ranked team and West Guiana is ranked 12th. The matches for Group B will be played at the beaches of South Sicountimont. The beaches include Beaudette Beach, Pierre Beach Municipal Beach, Presqu'ile Beach and Ile de Loup Beach. At this moment, the exact locations of individual Sanctii matches remains unknown

The team that will be representing the Kingdom of Saintland at the Beach Cup consists of the top young players in Saintland's Soccer League. The captain, Philippus Vagionius, is in his first year in the League. In his first season, he has become a superstar striker for St. Paulus and is considered the overwhelming favorite to be named MVP at the end of the current season. Petrus and Isaacus Barrius are twin brothers. They play for their hometown team in the village of St. Lucas. They are in their 3rd season in the League and are currently in the midst of a breakout season as St. Lucas is making a surprising run in the middle of the table. Paulus Plinius is a defender for St. Petrus. In his 2nd season, he has become a starter this season and has developed a reputation as a capable defender. Lucius Duronius is the keeper for St. Marcus. In his 5th season, he has matured as a keeper and is now considered a prospect for the national team.

Off the bench, Alessandro Drusus is a capable striker for St. Ioannes who is 5th in the League in goals scored this season, his third in the League. Lucas Volumnius is the young keeper for St. Paulus, in his 2nd season. He is considered a capable keeper, but is not regarded as a star. Iulianus Agrius and Ioannes Fufius are defenders for St. Paulus. Agrius is playing in his 4th season in the league and Fufius is a 3rd year player. They have started for St. Paulus this season. Sebastianus Suedius is a young midfielder for St. Andreas. He is in his first season and has performed better than usual for a first year player.

This team of relatively young players has the opportunity to prove themselves on an international stage at Beach Cup VIII. The opening matchday of the Beach Cup is on Sunday as Saintland faces Gaveo. Royal Four will be carrying the match as the Kingdom of Saintland seeks to get off to a positive start in this tournament. The Beach Cup opener will be broadcast head-to-head with Saintland's match against defending World Cup champions Audioslavia, the opening match of the World Bowl for the Sanctii and the likely critical match for the Sanctii at the World Championship in Field Hockey. The Royal Networks will have a busy day on Sunday, but it will be a great day for sports fans in the Kingdom.

Postby Free South Califas » Sun Apr 14, 2013 8:27 am

The anarchic federation of South Califas, with its hundreds of miles of ocean coastline, was expected to take the Beach Cup world by storm after its 'Endless Summer' recruitment and training program and its Moonlight Beach hosting bid, which despite being routed was considered impressive and sensible by Califan pundits. The promised new dawn did not come, and the team now languishes at the bottom of the rankings among active participants.

At the traditional 'Occupy-Style' community meal before the Football Assembly came to order, by the time a few scoopfuls of dal aloo palak had landed on plates it seemed clear enough that radical changes would be proposed in the Beach Caucus. Formerly content to be a rubber stamp for the Caucus, it was rumored that the FA might give them a fight this time, as the uncharacteristic sporting disaster risked generating multiple visions of the future and no small quantity of strife between them.

At the meeting itself, the promised strife was effectively minimized through a compromise that left the roster vacant for the time. Debates about which players should qualify for the Federal Team were preempted by one about whether that should be the Assembly's business at all, in which the Abstentionist proposal was victorious. In an unusual structure befitting a sport which the Califans should be established in, but aren't, the final proposals ratified by the Football Assembly elected a manager, Fran Escovedo from Venice Beach; empowered Escovedo to hire coaches and propose a roster; established a Joint Beach Football Recruitment and Development Council (JBFRDC) to oversee the process; and scheduled an election for new delegates and express positive mandates of the Football Assembly, which the JBFRDC would call after making its suggested revisions to Escovedo's roster.

Formerly manager of the Venetians amateur club and executive delegate of the Los Angeles County Amateur Beach Football Cup, Escovedo was an FA delegate heading into the vote that made her manager of the Federal Team. Her controversial ideas include hiring a choreographer to train the players in interpretive dance, encouraging the development of a club league which "might as well" become part of the Califan Solidarity League (a matter with which CSL voters may disagree), and soliciting ballots from existing amateur teams and cups as to who is their best player.

Finally, after working out a mandate, electing delegates, considering the proposals of Escovedo and the JBFRDC, forging a new mandate and electing temporary delegates, the Football Assembly ratified the following roster, refusing to designate any specific positions, over Escovedo's objections.
Manager: Fran Escovedo (Venice, Los Angeles County)
Trainer (emergency medical certification): Payton Merrickson (Venice)
Defense and goalkeeping coach: Wynona Katarin (Venice)
Attack coach: Marcos Carrara (Venice)

Odetta Kiera (Encinitas, San Diego County)
Diana Bellandini (San Luis Obispo)
Artur Mendocino (Santa Monica, L.A. County)
Patricio Velez Ribaldo (China Lake, Kern County)
Maria Contraseni (Channel Islands)
Don Zahradnik (San Diego)
Ludovico Ariane (Venice)
Amaranta Marfa (Long Beach, L.A. County)
Silvia Bartolomei (San Clemente, Orange County)
Don't kill anyone, or give them an injury likely to last longer than one game. Exception: You can severely injure one of my characters, but not kill them, in an earthquake, tsunami or heatstroke in South Califas, once. I'd appreciate a TG warning so I can tell you not to do it if I can't afford to lose any more.

A hard fought fight, sand exploding in faces when a header is won and Goalino smashes the ball into the goal. 7:5, a win for Kriegiersien in the group of death F against Sicoutimont and a roaring crowd. Time to shower. A chance to survive the group stage.

"See, I told you it is a good idea to build a wall in front of the goal", boasted Bernd Burgenbastler.
"But we should have destroyed it before we changed sides."
"Yeah, remember that for the next time. I have ideas for the next game. Traps and..."

"Wait", Coach Teufel stepped in.
"Against Slavias united Nations we will try something else. Playing Soccer the old fashioned way."

Everyone gasped.

"You mean...dribbling, shoving, faking?"
"Well, maybe not so old fashioned. Still mostly volley passes and shots, but less digging in the sand. More direct passing and combinations."
Raimundo, Jebus and Waldo stood up and whipped their long hair.
"We can do that."

Billly Corner

Experts from the blog (www.billlycorner.blogger.com) writer by Subramani Beach football team Goal Keeper and Vice-captain Adam Billly.

We did not have a good start to this tournament. To be honest, for players like us, who had been playing only week end matches at home, this tournament was a pleasant surprise. We are playing against professional players and we knew that we are going to face some tough matches. For me personally, the first match was an eye opener, as I ended up conceding 4 goals. Our strikers, especially, my best friend Matt did play well and we did level the score 3 times. But that crucial mistake I made in the last minute to concede the fourth goal sealed our fate in this encounter.

However, my sadness soon vanished as soon as I met my lovely girlfriend Anita after the match. She always knows how to console me, after I had a bad day at office. To be honest, this trip to Sicoutimont is more of a vacation to me besides playing in the actual tournament as I get time to spend with my beauty besides training and playing actual matches. I rarely get time back home to spend alone with her that I decided to make full use of this opportunity. Which better place to enjoy with your girlfriend than in this warm beach?

She is doing post-doctoral in ancient tribes of Subramani, and loves to learn about ancient cultures and tribes, wherever we go. Today, we both went to admire the Aspanola tribal dances and were simply blown away. After that we had a nice romantic candle lit dinner and that made my day. Tomorrow, we decided that we will go and explore the ancient tribal buildings and I am sure, it is going to be loads of fun as well with my beautiful and smart cutie travelling with me.

First Win Boosts Confidence

Lukquarel's National Beach Soccer Team won their FIRST EVER game 8-3 over the United Nations of Slavia in Beach Cup VIII! The game started out horrible, with Slavia easily putting in two quick goals. GK R'uijia Oimtiadle was furious at his defenders, and manager Crische Vandrum knew he had to make a change in order for his team to stay in contention. He subbed out struggling Gruan Vityhjuah for Z'eitune Quola, who made his National Team debut. This completely affected the face of the game! Lukquarel was controlling all that was happening on the sand. Slavia never touched the ball. By halftime, Lukquarel was leading 6-2 with 3 goals from Kapkon Marbiw, 2 from Z'eitune Quola, and 1 from Yntriuor Sm'gorsmon. Marbiw's goals were brilliant, slotting 2 in the bottom left corner and 1 that was blasted through the Slavia keeper's hands. Quola also had fantastic strikes, slamming his first past three opposing players, having the ball nutmeg the goaltender for the point! Quola's second goal was a lucky one, deflecting off the post and hitting his feet, which made the ball slowly roll across the line.

When the second half began, Slavia again had no possession, just chasing Lukquan players around the sand! Lukquarel's 7th came from an own goal. As Yntriour Sm'gorsmon tried to chip it over the defender to Gindeoe Daiguntw (subbed in for Kapkon Marbiw) who was sprinting down the field, the ball deflected off of the jumping defender's arm, past the frozen goalie, and into the back of the net! The 8th and final Lukquan goal came from Gindeoe Daiguntw, who hit a finesse shot from a free kick. The outstretched keeper had no chance! The late third goal from Slavia was just consolation in their defeat.

Manager Crische Vandrum and Assistant Manager Klymadre Tue met with our reporters after the match. They both said how they were pleased with the swuad's first performance, but they still need MUCH to work on if they had any hope in winning this year's Beach Cup.

Don't forget to support our nation's beach soccer team! Go Sand Kings!

Tough Loss For the Sand Kings

Lukquarel faced a terrible loss today in their second match of Beach Cup VIII. They were playing against reigning champions Western Cuba, who are also the #1 nation in this sport. Even though it was a large defeat of 7-3, it wasn't played horribly.

During the first half, Lukquarel were slow moving on the sand. They weren't able to fight for the ball as well as they were in their debut game against the United Nations of Slavia. Western Cuba had a joy of themselves in the beach, getting 5 goals easily. The Lukquan defense was helpless, and the forward had no possibility of slipping it past the goaltender! However, Yntriuor Sm'gorsmon did fire one off of the post, which trickled through the Western Cuba keeper's legs after a nasty spin was put on the ball once it struck the wood work. This period ended with our own behind 5-1. Manager Crische Vandrum knew there had to be drastic changes in the line-up heading into the next half of the competition.

As all three managers changed who was on the sand, the new starting 5 for the second half was this; Verlsy Bergandriaxx in place for Kapkon Marbiw, Cusche Schame (who was in the subs today) in place for Nakihlan Furdoarde, Z'eitune Quola in place for Yntriuor Sm'gorsmon, and R'uejia Oimtialde and Gruan Vityhjuah staying out in the pitch. The second half was better, but still, the Sand Kings came up a little short. Western Cuba scored their 6th slightly before the mid-way point on a free kick, as Verlsy Bergandriaxx had a handball, which also earned him a yellow card. Next, Lukquarel pulled two back, making the score 6-3 off of finishes from Cusche Schame and Verlsy Bergandriaxx. Schame's scored his point by simply passing it across the line after dribbling through the defense, and a subtle toe poke around the keeper. Bergandriaxx also had a petite strike, doing a Del Piero by the midfielder on the opposition, a speedy bish-bash by the defender (which is extremely difficult on sand), to place it under the bar with a chip over the sliding goalie. In the end, Western Cuba got one more to add to Lukquarel's pain by shooting one by R'uejia Oimtialde with only a few seconds left.

All three main coaches spoke with us after the game. Manager Crische Vandrum said, "I wasn't furious, but I was upset. We had unacceptable mistakes, but those can be fixed with work over the next few days."
Assistant Manager Klymadre Tue told reporters, "We were up against the #1 team in the world, and this is our first competition ever playing in. Yes, it sucked we lost, but what do you expect, a win in every game?! I know it isn't helpful for us in the tables, but we have much more time to catch back up against countries we can beat."
Lastly, 2nd Assistant Manager screamed at our correspondents, "IT WAS SO HORRIBLE! 100% crap! We couldn't shoot, couldn't pass, couldn't block, couldn't tackle the ball, couldn't muscle them off the ball, couldn't dribble, couldn't stop fouling, and so on! The list is endless! If I was able, I would make immediate changes to the starting 5, as they did no help in the first half. At least the second half squad tied them 2-2 for the section! Stupid, terrible, angering, unworthy to watch again, and inexcusable!"
