Modifier +1

Starting Six:

Center: Leonore Rochholz
[ A 28-year old veteran, Rochholz does his job as a center and does it well. Not only does he has excellent upper-body strength, strong control of the stick and speed, but he is wise through his years and has learned to read the opposition as well as anyone, and he can read his own players just as well and slap the puck to them for great passes. ]
Right Winger/Power Forward: Heilwig Graessner
[ The 26-year old Right Winger is six feet five inches tall and 210 lbs, and does an excellent job of checking the opponent with his size. He isn't a slouch on the offensive either, so don't underestimate him, as he can rebound as good as anyone. ]
Left Winger/shot sniper: Audrey Haviland
[ The 23-year old baby sister of the Nordics WBC team captain Jill Haviland, Audrey is one of the smallest members of the team at five feet and six inches tall. To make up for her size though, she is a truly elegant skater that can easily dodge and weave her way through the oppositions line. She also has an incredibly accurate, fast and powerful shot making her the ideal Shot Sniper. Still being young, and being a phenom at that, she is pretty cocky and doesn't mind taunting opponents and backs down from no one. She would be the one involved in the most fights on the team.]
Left Defense: Teresia Hoehne
[ A 28 Year old Veteran, Teresia does her job well ans is a tough nut to crack. She has uncanny instincts when it comes to blocking shots and is good and intercepting lot of them. She has decent speed, but is more often the 'stay at home' Defensemen
Right Defense: Volkhad Lucas
[ A speedy 22-year old, Lucas is excellent at doing his job. He is the prototypical Defensemen, never afraid to put his body on the line when it means taking a goal away from the opposing team. Speedy, a good skater and a good passer means he is the 'outside' defense. ]
Goaltender: Adrian Lais
[ 26-year old Adrian Lais is a solid defender, capable of making all kinds of saves, rather it be with his pads, arm blocker, stick and even his face mask to block shots. He is six feet and two inches tall, and like others on his team has good instincts. He'll be tough. ]

Substitutes
Forwards
Line 2
Katharine Eisermann
[ Katharine is a 30 year old veteran and a right winger. Like others on the team, she has many intangibles such as good instincts about where the puck will go and reading the movements of opponents. She is shot sniper. ]
Viktoria Moehle
[ Another veteran, Viktoria is 27 years old and is an excellent skater, so much so that it is often commented she would be equally at home on a figure skating rink as a hockey one. Her small size (She is only five feet one inch tall) makes it easy for her to avoid the opposition. ]
Sieghild Scheidies
[ At 6'3' 220 lbs, Sieghild is definitely capable of getting it done physically. He is also notably the Nordics most 'dirty' player as he isn't afraid to start fights, nor slam other players into the wall or onto the ice before doing so. Causes the most fights second to Audrey. ]
Line 3
Zanis Koellner
[ A more moderate version Scheidies, Koellner is still an annoying forward with a natural talent for screening other players and using a variety of methods to distract them.]
Emilie Ubben
[ Another speed demon, Emilie is also fairly young, being only 26. She is an excellent skater as well as a good shot. She is all-around balanced player, and a good Center. ]
Defencemen
Line 2
Maximilain Schramm
[A grizzled 34-year old veteran, Schramm knows his job and does it well. Like others, his years of experience give him instincts on reading opposing players that no amount of youth can outweigh. He is an offensive defencemen and often accompanies forwards deep into enemy territory.]
Hugo Schiller
[ More of a stay-at-home type of player, Hugo is none the less very talented in protecting his teams side of the rink and can get the puck out in a hurry. ]
Line 3
Kuno Grehl
[ Perhaps the best checker on the team, Kuno has great stick control and is good at wrestling the puck away from the other team and maybe even taking possession of it him self. ]
Selma Post
[ Another offensive-defensive player, Selma has surprising speed and stick control. She can flick the puck away from her opponent easily and even power it down the rink and make shots of her own. ]
Goaltender
Ernst Harnoth
[ A 35 year old veteran, Ernst is still very good at what he does despite being rather injury prone at this stage in his career. A solid defender that doesn't let many slip by.]

The Babbage Islands Bumblebees
Roster for WCoH 10

Style: +1

RP Permissions: You may pick my scorers, including assists, and my penalties. Injuries should be limited to those that might take a player out for the next game at most, unless prearranged. Please save godmods for another game, except the really funny ones. The Bumblebees never start a fight, but will cheerfully retaliate, especially with the fourth line.

Starting Lineup

19 C Tamara Lewis 22 Wright Aeronauts
9 LW Maurice Hubbard (C) 42 Cardiff Foxes
12 RW Isaac Clarke 27 North Fork Wings
4 D Auguste Gironne 24 Far Point Owls
5 D Benjamin Edwards 34 Harbor Beach Sharks
1 G Emily Johnson 25 Far Point Owls

Hubbard, the veteran captain, is the all-time leading scorer in the Babbage Islands Hockey Asociation (BIHA). He may be a step or two slower now, but compensates for it with decades of experience. Lewis is a flashy young centre with an uncanny ability to win face-offs and a good sense of where her wings are at all times. Clarke and Gironne tied for the scoring title in the most recent BIHA season. Clarke is the player most likely to set up in front of the net, whilst Gironne is well-known for his slapshots from the blue line. Edwards is a perfect complement to Gironne in the back who rarely gets beaten by any attackers--partly because he's big, durable, and unafraid to use his size. Johnson, nicknamed "Madame Butterfly", was the league MVP in her fifth professional season as the Owls captured another title.

Second, Third, and Fourth Lines

20 C Bradley Cooke (A) 26 Harbor Beach Sharks
3 LW Robert Ward 32 Moroni Mariners
7 RW Arnaud Bordeleau 28 Baden Dragoons

10 C Gary Johnson 21 Baden Dragoons
15 LW Tanya Edwards 30 North Fork Wings
18 RW Thibault Ruest 25 Wright Aeronauts

17 C Trevor Bailey 31 Cardiff Foxes
6 LW Joanne Arnold 23 Longview Wolves
11 RW Adrian Parker 33 Moroni Mariners

The fourth line, with Bailey centreing Arnold and Parker, is the enforcement line when necessary and a grind-it-out line in general.

Secondary Defencemen and Goalie

16 D Maurice Hébert (A) 35 Far Point Owls
2 D Brandon Richardson 23 Moroni Mariners
14 D Pascal Casabon 28 Longview Wolves

8 G Ethan Collins 29 Cardiff Foxes

Power Play Unit: Lewis, Ward, Clarke, Gironne, Richardson
Penalty Killing Unit: Arnold, Parker, Edwards, Hébert

Postby Quintessence of Dust » Thu Oct 22, 2009 8:09 am

For reference, our WCoH 9 entry and the most recent HHL season.

Nation: The Democratic States of Quintessence of Dust
    Code: QOD
    Demonym: Quodites

Ice hockey is, at least in terms of spectator numbers, the most popular sport in Quintessence of Dust, whose cold climate obviously provides many a frozen lake or municipal rink on which young Quodites grow up learning to emulate their heroes. It has particularly big followings in the North and East, and is most popular among the country's large Quintessential-Scandivanian population, especially the Quin-Finns. The Highmark Hockey League, recently expanded to a 72 game season, is the only fully professional top-level sports league in the country, beating football, rugby and baseball in viewing and endorsement stakes, and in general, the level of Quodite hockey far surpasses anything else their rather piss-poor athletic compatriots can muster.

Nonetheless, international competition has not been kind to our teams: other than the Greschmeier Forks, no domestic teams have made any headway in three installations of the CHL, and the Forks themselves keep losing to Valanora's Therathor. The national team entered the 9th World Cup of Hockey with hopes of "doing a Cassadaigua" - but instead, Cassadaigua ended up doing them, 5-0 in the playoffs after posting a 2-2-4 group stage record.

So, admittedly, the WCoH9 was not an unqualified success. Sebestyen Szöllôsi, Jožef Ivan Abrahamsberg and John Romkema proved themselves up to the world's best, but the team accrued so many penalty minutes for offences ranging from spearing and boarding to cockblocking and prolonged arguments about healthcare reform that by the end sportswriters didn't bother picking a sixth player for the Team of the Tournament. Other notable incidents included coach Teuvo Räikkönen devising a complex new defensive scheme only to leave his tactical notes in a Septentrionian pub, Szöllôsi becoming possessed by the spirit of Skeletor, the man who is now Quintessence of Dust's decathlon record holder insulting another player's girlfriend's custard pudding, and an unspecified incident of public indecency involving a baguette.

Now they return, with the country's hockey authorities having set a - rather ambitious - target of improving, which would mean making the quarterfinals. The team sees some changes, mainly reflecting success of Kynythin Motors this season. QBS will be broadcasting all the matches, Quod FM has dispatched Brian Gobbleson and Ron McMarsh to provide live commentary, and of course The New Cleethorpes Enquirer will be credentialed. The WCoH is already the most popular topic on noted sports blog He's Had An Absolute Holocaust, so the alternative media should be out in force too.

    Coach

Teuvo Räikkönen returns for a second tournament, though if he is not able to produce better results it will definitely be his last: national hockey team head coach is probably the most coveted position in the country, and he has plenty of contenders (even if most of these people appear to spend more time eating peanuts in sports bars than they do talking to their wives). In his day he was a defenceman who gained experience overseas and introduced the saucer pass to Quodite hockey, but he is mainly known for his subsequent coaching career at the helm of the High Jessieville Cuboids, who he led to three successive HHL titles. Having played for four and coached two different teams he is mostly seen as non-partisan in selection matters. Not a great tactician, but acclaimed for his nauss when it comes to substitutions.

    Line 1 - best players
    Line 2 - 2nd best players
    Line 3 - checking
    Line 4 - reserves
    New to the squad

I won't specify PP/PK lines, but you can assume it's Line 1 or 3 players, depending on the situation.

    Goaltenders

    John Romkema (Greschmeier Forks)
The Forks' goaltender was back-up last time, but moves ahead of Bošnik after a set of impressive international performances and another great domestic season. Utilises a hybrid style to make the most of his agility and dazzling reflexes, and does a very passable Steven Tyler impression.

    Edvard Bošnik (High Jessieville Cuboids)
    Brynjar Baldursson (New Cleethorpes Impressionists)

    Defencemen

    Jožef Ivan Abrahamsberg (Toonmar Brackets)
    Tomislavka Radetič (Brackets) A
Though the Brackets have struggled to replicate their championship winning form in the past couple of seasons, their defensive unit remains the most highly prized in the nation. Abrahamsberg has won best defenceman two years in a row, though technically, this was partly because they were afraid to ask for it back. Radetič, former HHL MVP, is no less imposing a physical threat, but a bit faster on the ice.

    Þór Hallbjörnsson (Dareb Architects)
    Norton Lundström (Forks)
    Atso Tuukkanen (Kynythin Motors) A
    Mathias "Metzger" Freeh (Dareb Architects)
    Jarkko Haajanen (Cuboids)
    Kaarlo Hautaniemi (Forks)

    Wingers

    Dietrich Harmann (Forks) - C
    Sven Wirtz (Motors)
The seasoned Wirtz played alongside Sebestyen Szöllôsi for years, and took over supplying assists for his son, Rez, without losing a beat. He displaces Harmann's colleague on the right, Alexei Kantola, out of favour after earning a four-game ban for spearing and cockblocking during WCoH9. Harmann, meanwhile, is promoted to captain after another dependable season on the left for Greschmeier, combining pace, aggression, a 103 mph slap shot and accurate wrist shot, and an extensive knowledge of Miles Davis's experimental period.

    Tom Gruenwald (Forks)
    Ben Gruenwald (Nowy Orpington Teapots)
    Jan-Erik Kinnunen (Cuboids)
    Bjartur Kjartansson (Impressionists)
    Jan Mahler (free agent)
    Zack Sundqvist (Forks)

    Centres

    Rez Szöllôsi (Motors)
Son of the legendary Sebestyen, the young Szöllôsi had a lot to prove in his second HHL season. To which he end he finished as top scorer, MVP, and best rookie. That good enough for you? Overcoming doubts that he was too small to play hockey with the big boys, he showed quite uncharacteristically Quodite style and flair, managing to dodge the biggest checks and showing impressive instincts for someone so young. He still had to endure passing round baby photos during the All-Star Game.

    Rutger Paulsen (free agent)
    Aleksi Gardemeister (Highmark Romantics)
    Leon Gottschalk (free agent)

    RP Permissions

    Choose my scorers: Y
    Penalise/eject my players: Y
Injure my players: Y (such that I can determine the severity)
    Godmod stuff: Y

    Fighting

Fighting is discouraged in the HHL, partly because the fans find it quite boring. Quodite players will, short of the "your mum isn't that committed to the project of social democracy" card, not start fights under any circumstances. They will respond if sufficiently provoked, but won't play it up for the benefit of the crowd. Most of them should be able to handle themselves fairly well, and I guess if the responder gets sucker punched, the others might pile in. In general, I'd prefer RPs considered of more than "and then my winger twatted your defenceman", though.

Style of play (modifier: -3 or most defensive, if applicable)

Quodite hockey is gritty, if unspectacular: very physical, usually relying on just one or two forwards to provide the pace and skills. They will forecheck and backcheck with equal fervour, and also hit a lot of one-timers. In the HHL, charging is not illegal, so this will probably the most common penalty infringement as the team adapt to international rules. Amphetamine use is rampant among the players. An important note is that the average weight of the team is 212 lbs: setting aside the issue of non-humans, this would definitely put them at the heavier end of the spectrum overall.

    1st/2nd kit

Bradley Headley-Defender Bradley is a strong and powerful defender. Rock solid at the back, he is not known for letting his team down.

Jacob Haismith-Defender, only 21, Jacob times interceptions and challenges brilliantly. Despit his lack of size, he makes up for it with his brilliant tactical play and vision to stop attacks from all fronts

Adam Cranwell-Attacker, brilliant finesse up top. He has a bit of a playboy lifestyle, but him and Phil are a strike force which would scare any opposition

Paul Docherty-Attacker, captain of the side and very experienced. Played in foreign professional leagues throughout his career, Paul is thought to be leading the side in their attack.

Larry Nurran-Substitute, all-rounder gamble by the manager. A wonderkid in the Dockian League, but still yet to even win the national league, he is the substitute for the side.

Simon Bailey-Manager, and founder of Docky's Amateur League. He was voted by the teams in the league into the manager's job for this tournament, and no-one would disagree

Sarzonia Stars

Coach: Mark Browers, 51
Assistant: Tom Crosby, 64
Goalie coach: Pete Peeters, 47

ROSTER
GOALTENDERS (starter in bold)

1 Matt Peterson, 27 6-foot-1, 205 pounds
Quick reflexes, uses a butterfly style most of the time. Puck handling is suspect.
30 Joe Cullen, 32 5-foot-11, 185 pounds
The primary backup because of his experience, reads angles and plays aggressively.
35 Kieran Barker, 23, 6-foot-3, 210 pounds
Young, being given an opportunity to learn at the international level until his time to start.

DEFENCEMEN
First pair

3 Erik Weinert, 22, 6-foot-2, 190 pounds.
Hard hitter, can pitch in on the power play, but usually isn't the point man with the man advantage.
5 Craig Langhorn, 35, 5-foot-10, 170 pounds. Team captain.
Relies on positioning and experience to defend against all comers. Paired with Weinert to help the young player learn.

Second pair
2 Lorne Davis, 26, 6-foot, 200 pounds.
Not super-fast, but an extremely hard hitter. Plays a stay-at-home defensive style.
6 Mia Chretién, 23, 5-foot-8, 145 pounds.
Can move the puck in and out of the zone well. Sometimes used on the front line during penalty kills.

Third pair
7 Joel Fitzgerald, 29, 5-foot-11, 185 pounds.
Not known as a hitter, but has better make-up speed than any other Stars defender.
18 Jack Bradley, 24, 6-foot-3, 215 pounds.
Size, speed and hard hitting make him a feared defender to go up against.

FORWARDS
First line

Left wing: 8 Sylvan Turcotte, 23, 6-foot-1, 175 pounds.
Lefty shooter with the hardest shot on the team. Led his league with 38 goals in 54 games.
Centre: 9 Joe Perkins, 27, 5-foot-11, 180 pounds. Alternate captain.
Best at winning faceoffs of any Stars player. A gritty player who'll willingly go into the boards, but that occasionally results in injuries.
Right wing: 10 Steven Miller, 31, 6-foot-1, 200 pounds. Alternate captain.
Hardest worker on the team, also willing to go into the boards and play physically.

Second line
Left wing: 13 Cameron Granato, 24, 5-foot-10, 180 pounds.
A righty shooter even though he plays left wing. Provides some scoring punch for the second line (24 goals in 52 games).
Centre: 15 Jon Tippett, 33, 6-foot, 185 pounds.
Led the league in assists and is a frequent presence on the power play as a distributor.
Right wing: 17 Mark Ridley, 28, 6-foot-3, 200 pounds.
Another prolific scorer, he scored 31 goals in 50 games for his team two years ago.

Third line
Left wing: 21 Marco Osterland, 31, 6-foot-1, 205 pounds.
Strong presence on special teams, has some scoring touch but is better known for his defence.
Centre: 23 Giancarlo Ovecezcu, 27, 6-foot-2, 210 pounds.
Uses leverage and cat-like reflexes to win defensive end face offs. Good puck handler.
Right wing: 24 Ray Olendorff, 22, 6-foot-1, 190 pounds.
Plays hard, but gets winded easily. Until he works into better hockey shape, he'll be on the third line.

Fourth line
Left wing: 25 Alan Donald, 27, 6-foot-1, 215 pounds.
Sarzonia's designated enforcer, led the league in penalty minutes three consecutive seasons.
Centre: 26 Troy Hammer, 28, 6-foot-3, 230 pounds.
Built like a gridball linebacker, he hits like one. Would be an enforcer if he didn't have a surprisingly deft touch in front of the goal.
Right wing: 34 Chris Buck, 33, 6-foot-2, 205 pounds.
On the checking line because, well, he's a good checker. Does so cleanly.
First WCC Grand Slam Champion
NSWC Hall of Fame Inductee (post-World Cup 25)

Postby Jeffgordonville » Thu Oct 22, 2009 3:13 pm

Jeffgordonville National Side Roster.

Modifier +2

Forward Line 1
LW - Martin McReynolds (26): Leading goalscorer in the JHL for the past 3 seasons for the Labonteville Thunder, McReynolds is incredibly agile and is arguably the fastest on the ice today. Famously managed to best all 6 of the Webber City Tornados on when they pulled their goalie in favour of an extra defender to try and shutdown McReynolds, who had already scored a record 4 goals on that night. Martin has also received the MVP award in the JHL as well, having scored at least once in each of his last 146 games, a record streak.
C - Tara Farmer (29): One of the most charismatic players in the JHL, Farmer has received over a thousand votes for mayor of Webber City despite never having been on the ballot. Often pointed out as the sole reason that the Webber City Tornados has gotten any success in past seasons, Farmer is also the highest paid player in the JHL, receiving almost 7 million Satos per season. Farmer is more at home setting up her teammates for scoring oppurtunites, possessing a keen analytical mind which can sense an opening and take advantage before anyone else knows what's happening.
RW - Rodney Jefferson (33): Coming in at 6'9" and weighing 330 lbs, Jefferson looks like he'd be more at home in defense, but his skating skill is not to be underestimated, and can leave his opposition dumbfounded when he dodges their best attempts to body check him. That said, Jefferson often prefers to simply bulldoze his way through his opponents, whether trying to score or covering his teammates.

Forward Line 2
LW - Jimmy Lyons (25): One of the two Lyons twins, Jimmy is the quieter twin, preferring to take his time and aim a perfectly placed shot rather than bombard the goal with constant shots.
C - Arnold Fly (24): The only person to ever be on the same line as the Lyons twins and not look completely out of place. Often finds himself setting up Jimmy and Frederica, but is deadly accurate himself. Is rumoured to be in a relationship with Frederica.
RW - Frederica Lyons (25): The other Lyons twin, Frederica has lived in Jimmy's shadow through much of her time in the junior ranks. Has a highly competitive nature as a result of trying to beat her twin, which manifests itself as being highly impatient and constantly bombarding a goalie with shots, degenerating into screaming and shouting if half a dozen or so shots are denied. Has attempted to pick a fight with Brett LeRoi on two occasions, and is known as the only person who can regularly hold their own against Patrick O'Kneel.

Forward Line 3
LW - Carl Bouvier (30)
C - Landon Johnson (29)
RW - Chris Jakobsen (33)

Forward Line 4
LW - Wayne Carlisle (22)
C - Steve Button (28)
RW - Alyson Bernoldt (26)

Defense Line 1
LD - Jack Solo (34): As his name might suggest, Jack prefers one-on-one situations, and thanks to his immense speed, oppenents diving out of his way is not unheard of. Unlike his fellow first line defenseman on the Labonteville Thunder, Jack follows the rules to the letter as much as he can, which can really piss the scorers off when he's on a really good day.
RD - Patrick O'Kneel (27): Already looking like he's well on his way to taking the all-time record for most penalty minutes, Patrick comes from a family entrenched in the Jeffgordonvillian military, and it really shows. Ever the showman, on the rare occasion that McReynolds can't get it together, all it will often take is for O'Kneel to bring a random opponent to their knees in a fight. A former boxer and martial arts expert, O'Kneel almost always has the upper hand in a fight.

Defense Line 2
LD - Rik Enstoc (37)
RD - Quentin Ashley (34)

Defense Line 3

LD - Peter Robyn (41): The oldest player on the team, Robyn was formerly a great player, and one of the best defensemen, until a fateful fight with O'Kneel 3 years ago which ended both players' seasons, O'Kneel serving a suspension, with Robyn in hospital. Though he is still not to be trifled with, Robyn has since seemed to lack his edge.
RD - Sharon Stone (35)

Goalies
G - Brett LeRoi (28): Touted as the greatest Jeffgordonvillian goalie of all time, LeRoi has often been referred to as a brick wall. Extremely apt with the glove, LeRoi has a 73% accuracy rate when it comes to catching pucks. That is not to write off his blocker, stick, and pads, as they quite often manage to deny goals as well. It is a good thing LeRoi plays for the Labonteville Thunder, as what would happen if Martin McReynolds attempted to score on him has often been compared to an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object.
G - David Gear (33)
G - Kyle Johnson (22)

RP Permissions:
Choose my Goal scorers: To an extent. I'd rather you read my descriptions and attribute more goals to players like McReynolds who I've built up as excellent scorers.
Choose my penalties: Yes
Injuries: Not unless you consult me first
Godmode: No
Fights: Really, only O'Kneel and Frederica Lyons go around starting fights, the rest keep to themselves, but will defend themselves if attacked.

The Nordics arrived in Newmanistan today. Well, actually two Nordics teams did. Both carried on private luxury team jets, one team having arrived for the up coming Keisler cup and the other for the World Cup of Hockey. This article is about the Nordics team participating in the WCoH, but don't worry. We'll covering the Keisler cup too. Of course the Nordics don't know exactly what city they'll be playing in yet but they figured it'd just be easier to fly in and get settled as soon as possible. After the team enjoyed a catered lunch, some of the players took the time to chat with us.

Audrey Haviland, team captain, laid her intentions on the line from the get-go. "Last time we improved and made the play-offs. This time we want to improve on that performance." of course anything would be an improvement after the Nordics inaugural tourney, the 8th WCoH in which they failed to even score a goal. "That was certainly a painful experience." Audrey recounted. "But we learned from it and came back strong last time. Time to improve yet again." Next up was Viktoria Moehle. "We have a very talented and confident team. We know we can accomplish something special if we play hard and don't give up."

Embattled head coach Justin Michahelles had this to say. "The character of this team is unbelievable. I have never seen a group of players so focused on one goal, and that goal is of course winning games for their country. I have the exact same squad again and I believe we can go far this time."

Toyurska Ishockeyförbundet

World Cup of Hockey Roster and Media Guide

Team Nickname - Grizzlies

Head Coach - Viktor Brandin

The head coach of the Toyur national hockey team is well-known amongst the hockey faithful in Toyur, having led the historic IK Kristiansberg club to three national championships in seven years as that team's captain, and being the first player in the Elitserien to score over 1500 points in a career. Brandin has brought his attack-minded philosophy to the national team stage. While not one to shy away from the need for stay-at-home defencemen and a solid checking line to frustrate the opponent's top scorers (a line led by current Kristiansberg captain Mats Hölmqvist), he has a solid goalkeeping tandem to rely on and can focus on putting goals in the other team's net rather than focusing too much on keeping them out of their own.

“What do you mean you’ve signed us up for a World Cup? We don’t know anything about hockey?”

“It always looked fun on the telly.”

“Yeah, but do you even know what any of the terminology means?”

“I was just going to take a look at Wikipedia.”

“What about picking players? We don’t even have a professional league in Queer Poco el Mono Ara.”

“Yeah, but there’s a Monday night league.”

“Those people have other jobs, they can’t just take weeks out to play hockey, how are they going to earn a living.”

“Ah, I didn’t think of that.”

“No. You never do. Now I’m going to email the organizers and have them withdraw us.”

“You can’t do that.”

“Why?”

“Because I have a plan.”

Teddy Burgess was the head of Queer Poco el Mono Ara hockey organization and had arranged for the team to appear at the World Cup. Teddy wasn’t a very clever man but being head of an organization which consisted of 11 amateur teams who played after work but before going to the pub wasn’t taxing at all. Teddy had never actually witnessed a live game of hockey but had watched some, once or twice on the television.

Very little was expected of them as the country didn’t even have a national league and the temperature in Queer Poco was of that sort where “winter sports” were redundant as it was just so damned hot. The team coach Freddy Burgess, son of Teddy wasn’t impressed at being installed as team coach, but would make the most of it. That, and his authoritarian personality which made being in charge all the more fun.

[QPeMA’s roster will follow shortly]

The Dancougar Black Wings ice hockey team is made up of total amateurs because... yeah, the Sports Ministry was all like, "Sure, I guess we'll play again. But we only have time to manage that soccer league, so we'll go get those same guys from last time." Indeed, they'll come from the north and the mountains, where the game's strongest following is. Although maybe all of those manly beards (and Pascal) aren't enough to win. So this time we'll go with a more neutral strategy... call it 0.

There are also jerseys. Oh man, merch. As all matches appear to be on neutral ice in Newmanistan, the home/away distinctions don't really mean anything. They'll just be rotated to ensure minimal kit clashing.

We're Plutoni! We're the defending champions! We have...robots? Yeah. They're in italics.

Do whatever you want. The team isn't very aggressive, but no pushovers either. McCourt and Lindstrom are a little more likely to get penalized/in fights/that sort of thing. Hesse is less likely. Style is...zero.

A man walks to the podium, applauded loudly by Newmanistanian media with everyone else not knowing who the heck he is but most clap assuming that they should. He introduces himself as Martin LaPierre, and on a monitor behind the podium it shows his career statistics. He’s 45 years old and had scored 787 career goals. Yes indeed, he is the leading scorer in domestic Newmanistan hockey history.

“Welcome everyone to Pocono City..... (a speech about how honored he is follows)”

“Now here are the six pots. We have 36 teams, and it just so happens that 18 of you have a ranking, and 18 of you don’t. So the first three pots are according to that rank, and the rest of you without one, are placed into pots alphabetically. The pots are as follows...”

#2- Taeshan, Secristan, Sarzonia, Tocrowkia, Newmanistan, Dancougar

#5- Jeffgordonville, Kosovoe, Kulverint, Milchama, Queer Poco el Mono Ara, Shivat
#6- Skworn, Swartaz, TGWTGland, The Babbage Islands, The Fanboyists, The Great Sandy Desert

LaPierre is joined by five other all-time legends of Newmanistanian hockey, who each stand by a pot. The draw ping pong balls with the nations flag on it from each pot, and end up with the following groups:

Final Game 4 (Nov 17)
Final Game 5 (Nov 18)

Things to note:
– All games in Newmanistan
– Everyone plays everyone twice. In group stage, games can end in ties. In playoffs, its regulation, OT, and then as much as I hate them, a shootout.
– Playoffs: The top two teams in each group advance to the playoffs with no exceptions. After that, the next best four teams also advance to the playoffs. All playoffs, with the exception of the championship, are a best of three. The championship is a best of five.

The first post of this thread will ultimately link to this post, to all rosters, and to all days of results.
