Two pitching masterpieces by Melody Johanson and Victor Van Cruz, with the timely hitting of Valentin Sorin and Katherine Smathers, have carried the Assassins to the Quarterfinals of the World Baseball Classic.

Next, they will face Civil Citizenry, a team that has always been relevant in the world. With the Flames' Gridiron football team also being put in the same group as Civil Citizenry in the second round of the World Bowl, tensions between these two rival nations have grown high.

"It is time to make it to the Semifinals for the first time," stated Head Coach DeMarco, "We've been building up to this for a while. Let's get it done!"

Mohammed Boisse will take to the mound, with Xavier Hammond catching...

"Hey we're in the semi-finals"

"Oh good I knew those early jitters were just that"

"Yeah but I still have that feeling that we should have replaced the team"

"Probably but what can you do"

"Well hopefully it won't bite us in the back against Darmen"

"No guarantees obviously"

"Yep"

"But still a good result"

"It's just nice to see some quality baseball from these guys"

"I agree, I mean for how bad we've played to be in the semi-finals is crazy"

"Yeah"

"Hey, I just read it again, it looks like the quarterfinals"

"Still"

"Oh totally"

"Well then let's hope we can beat Darmen"

"Yeah because anything less than the semis is terrible"

"So true"

"Come on You Warriors!"

"Let's Go Milchama!"

Well here it is, the extremely procrastinated roster of your #1 team in the WBC. Way to make a good image for NS baseball WC. ;)

Western Cuban National Baseball Team
World Baseball Classic 23

Image

Several players had there eyes on retirement following the end of WBC 23 but now have came back due to a harsh defeat handed by Milchama in the finals. Overall there final goal is another World Baseball Classic title. If these players manage to do so, it would cap off a golden era for Western Cuba in baseball and a majority of this team will be able to retire in fashion. Most notably Ivan Kaspar and Fredek Fenyak. Despite high public decision of the two retiring from international baseball, they stuck it out for another classic. Will they come up short, or not only be highly remembered, but become legends for Western Cuba.

Live from the Charles the Great Pub in downtown Arçon, it's the Frank and Walter Show on WSSR, Saugeais's number one sports talk radio.

Frank: Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. We're going to make you several promises for the next couple hours or thereabouts. We're going to do the best we can to keep you informed, entertained, and maybe have a laugh or two along the way. This is radio's best combination of the divisive, outrageous, appalling, objectionable, offensive, and occasionally inhospitable. I'm Frank Harrison.

Walter: And I'm Walter Kovak. We'll be taking all your calls on baseball, football, anything today since it's such a good day. The Knights defeat Western Cuba in the Copa Rushmori, almost guaranteeing a spot in the knockout rounds after the dreadful outing last Copa, and the Rangers national baseball team are back in the semi finals. I gotta tell you, Frank, this team looks just as good as the one from six years ago during the 22nd Classic.

Frank: When you have two very favorable pitchers in Grier Adrichem and Cash Augustin leading your staff, it's very hard for the opposing hitters to get the bat to the ball. Adrichem even recorded a 2 hit complete game when Tidal Wake came to Montbenoit. 20 strikeouts over his three game pitched, all wins by the way, and there is no denying that he is a major force to contend with when he is on the mound. You then look down the pitching staff, and you find very little faults. Of course, there is Rodney Rey, who has been god awful this Classic, with two losses and a no decision in his three starts. Koby Winter had to bail him out for the win against Lycrabon in Game 2; giving up 4 runs late in the game after throwing 7 scoreless is just bad, and manager Claude Gagné should have realized that he was visibly tired on the mound.

Walter: Well, we can argue until the cows come home over that point, but I will say that I was for the decision to leave him in. He was showing to Gagné and to the rest of the roster that he was, for once in this Classic, doing well.

Frank: And then he hit a wall head on at 75 mph. Bang. Zoom. 4 runs in the hole before you knew it.

Walter: I did say I was in favor of him staying to start the inning, I didn't say I was in favor to keep him in for all four of those runs to cross the plate. After he gave up the first two runs off that homer, that's when Claude should have pulled him out.

And now we have officially received word that the Saugeais Rangers will be taking on Western Cuba for the third straight Classic. Of course, who can forget the last two, which were chalk full of twists, turns and to-the-limit excitement.

Frank: Those Cubans are still ranked number one in the world. They aren't pushovers. Never have been and never will. But that's the fun of it; the thought of taking down the top team should be enough motivation on this team.

Walter: They were close in their last two encounters, both going the full allotment of games in their series in WBC 22 and 23. And both times after Saugeais rallied back from "do or die" situations. This Classic will see the introduction of the 5 game semi final series, so it may conjure up the memories of the 22nd Final for some of these players. Hopefully, they'll be able to overcome some late mistakes from that which cost them the title. You are listening to Frank and Walter on WSSR, Saugeais' number one sports talk radio.

Musical Interlude

Walter: Welcome back to The Frank and Walter Show, we'll be taking your calls on the day so far. Be it baseball, football, anything really. First in line is Charles from Montbenoit. Hey there, Charles.

Hey guys, love the show. I just wanted to know with Claude Gagné and Franklin Nopro featured prominently in the coaching roles, do you think the national team is more focused on pitching rather than hitting and fielding?

Walter: Uhh, no. I don't think pitching is more of the focus for the coaches on that team. While it so happens that the pitching has been performing better this Classic, we can't make a connection that the national team is more structured ahead solid pitching. you forget about out strong hitters and baserunners too, with the likes of Marek Atterbury, Hervé Hoefler, and Radcliff Snyder. Take those guys away and you lose half the productivity of the team. They are just as important to the Rangers as the pitching.

Next up on the show is Bob from Bugny. Hi Bob.

Hey, how ya doin. I'm from Bugny, but I'm currently in Lycrabon on vacation. See, I was at the game, and I noticed that the DH Snyder was put in at first base. What's up with that?

Walter: *sigh* He was playing first because the playoffs don't have the DH rule in effect, and the team needed his bat.

But he wasn't fielding well at all. Why didn't they put in Erhard Danman then?

Walter: OK, you're done. Radcliff is a decent fielder at his position. And suggesting that Erhard, while a better fielder, is a better hitter? Erhard shouldn't have even been called up to the squad. You best stay down in Lycrabon; we don't want your stupid back in this country.

Frank: Eh, first bad one we've had in a while.

Walter: Yeah, but then it opens up the floodgates of stupid. John from Riverside, you're on the show.

Yeah, I wanted to ask if you thought the team has a legitimate shot against the number one team in the world. Stats don't lie they've been doing better than us, and....

Walter: .....See? What'd I tell you, floodgates. One more before the break, we have Gary in Ville-DuPont.

What's going on. I've been watching the entire Classic, and have wondered if our team suffers from a stamina issue. We seem to score all of our runs in the first 5-6 innings, but fail late, especially in those three group losses. Could he problem be bad training?

Walter: Mmm, no. They've run into surprisingly good bullpen pitchers this Classic that have limited their production late. And on the pitching staff side, only Rodney Rey has had stamina issue. I don't think he'll even be on the team next Classic. Thanks for the call, and thanks for breaking up the bad.

Frank: We've had worse, can't deny that. We'll be right back, and you are listening to WSSR, the number one station in Saugeais for all your sports needs.

"Well that's one way to win a do or die game"

"Seriously that thing was over as a contest by the 4th inning"

"I just wished we could have scored one run in the 8th inning"

"Yeah we were soooooo close to scoring in every inning"

"Oh well"

"Yeah we won"

"Really that is the most important part"

"By far and now we're in the semi-finals"

"Yeah but before that can I say one thing?"

"Sure what is that?"

"This team is truly the Cardiac Warriors"

"What do you mean?"

"Well every time the chips have been down so far this tournament they have come through. Somehow despite being 3rd on matchday 9 we ended up in 1st by the end, we swept through octos and then in this elimination game in quarters we played our best game of the tournament."

"That's so true"

"So this is a team that really knows how to win important games"

"Despite that being statistically impossible"

"Yep"

"So who do we got in the semis?"

"Yesopalathia"

"So we should win"

"I think so, look it's 4 of the top 10 teams of the world battling out right now"

"Tough job"

"Yep"

"But Yesopalathia are the worst ranked team"

"So we should be in front"

"Hopefully, especially after this RP"

"Yeah definitely that should give us the boost that is necessary"

"Is being this frank about the 4th wall and RPing really rude and bad etiquette?"

"Probably"

"Does anybody really break the 4th wall in NS?"

"I don't think so"

"We should do that more often"

"Yeah"

"You know I think this would be good for the upcoming World Cup cycle"

"Last time you had an idea like that it turned into old-timey baseball writing"

"I admit that was bad but this one could go a lot better"

"I know but then again so could anything else"

"Fair but this time it's not such a huge change. Anyways, last World Cup we were painting the 4th wall quite a bit"

"True"

"So it's not such a big jump. I would call it more a natural progression. Whereas we are terrible fiction writers"

"Ok then"

"Yep"

"So will Milchama win?"

"Let's hope so"

"Come on You Warriors!"

"Let's Go Milchama!"

"So the semis"

"Yep that looks about as far as we will go"

"Sounds good"

"Really?"

"Yeah it's hard to win all the time but if we consistently get to the semi-finals then there really can be no argument"

"No argument about what?"

"How we are the best baseball team in the world"

"But there is no argument about that"

"Well not true there are 2 other claimants to the throne"

"Who?"

"Qazox and Newmanistan"

"Well Newmanistan has been gone forever so they are out"

"Yes but they were so impressive when in that we have to talk about them. Look we can say we did it longer and also that from WBC 9 to WBC 16 we had our backup teams in. Their run is still impressive"

"True"

"But we are definitely better than Qazox"

"Oh yeah totally but consistently reaching the semis will prove it conclusively in a way nothing else can"

"Ok then"

"I'm still not satisfied"

"Nor should you be but hey man the semi-finals are good"

"I feel like we're just lowering expectations"

"Probably"

"So let's win the next two games and get to the finals"

"Ok"

"Come on You Warriors!"

"Let's Go Milchama!"

"Defeated again by Western Cuba. This is starting to get annoying."

"I know, right? The Rangers faced them in the past three Classics, and all three times they bit the dust."

"Though, arguably, that Finals series from WBC 22 hurt the most. The Rangers came back from 2 game down to knot up the series, only to choke in the end."

"Yeah, that was very disheartening. Last Classic, the Rangers weren't even in the position they are at now; they were bounced in the quarters."

"True. They have a chance to come away from this Classic with a bronze medal. But against Milchama? They'll play the Rangers just as tough as Western Cuba did. And with the pitching staff starting to look downtrodden, I can only imagine what Milchama'd do to them."

"Well, the Rangers need the likes of Atterbury, Snyder, and Hoefler to make solid contact with the ball. And on the pitching side, Grier Adrichem is out for now after the sore thumb limited him to just 4 innings last outing. So Cash Augustin will start the 1st and potentially 5th game in this series if Grier can't pitch again."

"I'm fearful for Rodney Rey. He's had the worst Classic so far, with 2 losses and a no decision in his only three starts. When he takes the mound, I think you can chalk up an instant loss there."

"Already conceding a game? C'mon man, you've got to be more positive than that. Milchama are beatable, but it'll take a near miracle to get past them now, with the team's morale the way it is."

"We'll see how it plays out. I hold reservations, but if we do win, you can say you told me so. I'll see you down at the pub later."

"Later."
