WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC XXIV - LYCRABON

Postby Lycrabon » Mon Nov 12, 2012 8:09 pm

Lycrabon brings the 24th World Baseball Classic back to Lycrabon after a seven Classic absence from the land of the Blue Jays.

To recap, key points for the Classic:
SCORINATION SYSTEM: Miscellanator and the most recent rankings will be used, as well as an RP bonus will be used (on an average of 0-3)

RP BONUS: Non-cumulative bonus, with an emphasis on creativity and effort over quantity.

Group Format:
10 groups of six teams in each group will be used, with the top two in each group advancing to Lycrabon.

Playoff format:
- All playoff games will be played in Lycrabon, in two stadium groups (e.g. Riverside Stadium in St. Catherine and Davis Stadium in Charlestown for a series).
- 20 teams will advance into the Knockout rounds. The teams will be seeded based upon group finish (meaning group winners will be seeded higher than any 2nd placed teams) and the tie-breakers. Play-in Round winners will be reseeded only for the round of 16. Playoffs will be best 2-of-3 for the all rounds before the semifinals. The Semifinals and 3rd place series will each be best 3-of-5; with the Championship being a best 4-of-7.

- LCAA (Lycrabon college) umpires will be used for all playoff rounds, with that information to be given at that point.

Group and Playoff Tiebreakers to be utilized involving any number of teams:
Overall Record
H2H record (Group tie-breaker only)
H2H Run differential (group tie-breaker only)
Overall Run differential
H2H Runs Scored (group tie-breaker only)
Overall Runs Scored
Coin-flip

For a three-plus team tiebreaker, once a team is eliminated/qualified, the process reverts to first tiebreaker.

A team constructed a mere few weeks ago from the multimillion Yoso earning superstars of Allinlia's 30 team Professional Baseball League, they will be seeing international competition for the very first time in this WBC.

Cyborg Holland: The Students face a real challenge

Baseball. A word which conjures up images of far-flung places, with sunny triangles and tanned athletes pitching and batting, and otherwise doing things that Dragons don't do. However, some bored, overpaid college students with way too much time volunteered two years ago to go to the World Baseball Classic, the pinnacle of the Baseball world.

Peaking at 25th in the world, the Dragons have dropped a bit to 31st, but are by no means discouraged. The same side will strut out, with the same bats, gloves and cocky confidence. Life's a game to these guys, and this game is life.

(Following to the letter of FSC's guide to making a roster)

SP: Phillip Jedynak (25 years old, right handed)
SP: Nikolaus Sienkiewicz (21 years old, right handed)
SP: Cibor Heiman (22 years old, left handed)

Batters (I think)

1: Maas Bulle (23 years old, right handed, 3rd Base)
2: Jørn Dirchs (20 years old, right handed, Centre field)
3: Dag De Cloet (22 years old, left handed, 1st Base, CAPTAIN)
4: Steffen Niemec (21 years old, right handed, Catcher)
5: Nikodem Addicks (24 years old, right handed, Right field)
6: Yulian Kozlow (20 years old, right handed, 2nd Base)
7: Jenny Gelens (20 years old, left handed, SS)
8: Mariusz Majewski (24 years old, right handed, left field)

Les Royales World Baseball Classic 24 Team

Ranked 36th in the World, Les Royales enter the WBC with their hopes on a bubble. Could the team qualify for the WBC? Potentially. It all depends on if the big players step up too the plate. Here is the roster that will decide the team's fate.

Batting Order

1. Pedro Santana, SS-St-Simeon Mets
2. Alfonso Soriano, 3B-Baie-Eternite Cardinals
3. Davis Perrault, 1B-St-Simeon Mets
4. Victor Santana, RF-St-Simeon Mets
5. Jose Colognon, C-St-Simeon Mets
6. Marcus Feldman, CF-Lac-Drouin Tigres
7. Lawrence Carlisle, LF-St-Simeon Mets
8. Fernando Dariono, 2B-Baie-Eternite Cardinals
9. Francis Boullion, DH-St-Simeon Mets

As you can see, Les Royales use the Designated Hitter rule. If there is no designated hitter used, our hitter will be Cristobal Alonso for the pitchers.

Pitching Rotation
1-Javier Perreois, RHP-Baie-Eternite Cardinals
2-Fidel Sanchez, LHP-St-Simeon Mets
3-Luc Richard, RHP-Lac-Drouin Tigres
4-Henri Desharnais, LHP-St-Simeon Mets
5-Cristobal Alonso, RHP-St-Simeon Mets

Bullpen
Claude Perrault, Closer-St-Simeon Mets
Fernard Dante, Closer-Baie-Eternite Cardinals
Ingham Reginald, Closer-Lac-Drouin Tigres

Manager
Maurice Sorotane, St-Simeon Mets

A short review of the roster would see that all players come from only 3 teams, the powerhouse St-Simeon, runner up so many times Baie-Eternite, and bridesmaid Lac-Drouin. Also, most players come from Islas San Cristobal, the baseball haven of Sicoutimont, which is the result of Spanish and French names mixed together. The top player is expected to be Victor Santana, the 19 year old wunderkind. Lots of home runs in the LBS, and 2 championships to back it up make him the best player in the league. What can we expect from this team? Santana and Boullion are the ones who will provide most of the runs, but other players can be breakouts. On the pitching side, Perrault is the best closer, and will be used in most games. Javier Perroies is one of Sicoutimont's better pitchers, and has a great endurance streak. He is able to play a game every 3 days rather than the usual 5, although Sorotane will not let him. His pitch count is able to get high up, but Sorotane does not let it get too high because of previous Tommy John Surgery to his left elbow. Maurice Sorotane is a manager who is not afraid to pull a losing pitcher late in the game, and use his DH early in the game if necessary. He is willing to use pinch hitters and runners, but more often than not later in the game.

Our home stadium is Field PowerEternite in St-Simeon. The stadium was recently updated to seat over 40,000, and was used to host the final series of the BCCC Champion's Baseball League. It is prepared fully to host Sicoutimont's team, and is situated just 20 kilometers outside of St-Simeon, in the subburb of Baie-Nord. A shuttle runs straight from downtown St-Simeon to the stadium, and takes approximetely 15 minutes. Hotels are situated in the area, however for a true cultured experiance one would rather stay in a hotel downtown St-Simeon, the most cultured city in the nation.

Team Nickname: The Wild Kards
Demonym: Karditani
TLA: KRD

Manager: Ricky Ledée, 45 years old, #33

Lineup: (Batting order, position, name, age, uni #, bat/throw, info)
1. 2B Ricky Hormuz, 31, #9, R/R; Lines balls everywhere and has base stealing down to a science. Horrid with the leather.
2. CF Aaron Aaron, 25, #44, R/R; Above average speed, above average glove, above average power. Gives solid stats all around, though the only really remarkable thing about him is the number of doubles he hits--he's led the KBL for three straight years, right from his rookie season.
3. RF Batl Skard, 28, #5, L/L; A good contact hitter who WILL make you pay if you hang something. Often uses his height to rob would-be homeruns over National Stadium's ridiculously short right-field wall.
4. LF Gale Wind, 19, #22, R/R; A Pegasus (who ties her wings to be fair; she can still jump higher than most people) with a cannon for a wing. Hits bombs consistently, but is decidedly average in clutch situations.
5. 1B Jeffery Snider, 30, #45, R/R; Would come up with any throw at first base on a team that didn't have Hormuz and Caster in the infield. Even so, he drastically helps reduce the effects of their horrid throws. Most clutch hitter on the team.
6. 3B Short Stop, 23, #68, L/L; An earth pony that darts around the field like he owns it. Snappy on the basepaths.
7. SS Starline Caster, 17, #13, R/R; A speedy and flamboyant young unicorn, Starline is equally likely to make that massively improbable game-saving play as he is to send an easy throw into the stands.
8. Pitcher (Jesse Portier if DH is being used)
9. C Geoff Jones, 25, #3, R/R; Leaves runners from both teams out to dry frequently.

Bench:
C Wellman Roberts, 27, #14, R/R
3B/DH Jesse Portier, 35, #54, L/L
SS/3B Laura O'Neil, 27, #6, R/R
OF Rock Smith, 34, #36, S/R
OF Alexi Alonso, 28, #87, L/L
UTIL Corry Redspan, 19, #1, S/R

Rotation:
P Casey Brant, 27, #4, R/R; Karditan's resident flamethrower signed on with the Saxet Cowboys. Slings a flaming fastball and slider (both hit 97 regularly; fastball can hit 100 at times) that look identical out of hand. Has a decent changeup. Throws sidearm.
P Money Ball, 23, #65, L/L; A technical unicorn pitcher who takes the mound for the Bashtun Bloody Sox. Specializes in deceptive breakers. Can throw anything that curves effectively and has developed a baffling upward-breaking Slurve.
P Cliff Leaper, 21, #31, L/L; The Fillydelphia Filly's Pegasus ace. Jams righties with a hard cutter and has a dirty slider that can get batters on both sides whiffing.
P Scott Kasmeer, 30, #19, L/L; The one bright spot on the Rachevij Islanders. They're not a horrid team, but they're full of aging regulars. Kasmeer isn't too far from being over the hump himself but he seems to have finally found his stride. Good rising heat, good dropping change, good bite to his overhand curve.

Bullpen:
LR Firmer Delmar, 28, #27, L/L
MR, Hessafa Merana, 21, #96, R/R
MR, Jhonny Pearseed, 34, #2, L/R

Please refer to me as The Greater Arslanid Empire, or just the Arslanid Empire ICly. Works better.
NO, this is NOT an Islamist nation.
Okay! Everyone say it with me! Wyz-Turk-Stan! There you go!
I am not of Middle Eastern Descent. I'm but a simple Haitian-American girl who decided to make an Ottoman based nation.

Well It's Probably Too Long

To be honest the Warriors should really be using a new roster for the upcoming World Baseball Classic tournament. The average age of the team is 34 and some of them had really bad performances over the last season in the MBL. Yet, here we are again at tourney time and the MBA has released the exact same team as last time. When pushed for an explanation MBA head Martin Florsh said, "Well they won it last time. Why in the hell should we mess with success?" With such sound logic the criticism has been somewhat mooted but if the Warriors fail expect the knives to be louder this time.

Anyway the roster from your DEFENDING CHAMPION MILCHAMA WARRIORS!

The Zwangzug Zebras!

Numbers after the teams denote their first tournament: this is mostly for personal record keeping. RPers have free rein, though I'd ask you to justify any departures from the given lineup or "rotation".

The Zebras are a defensively-minded team overall, eschewing many power hitters in favor of patience at the plate. Pitchers, likewise, tend more towards finesse than speed. There is no DH used at our home stadium, the Worm Hole (located in Spenson).

Manager: Marjorie Cobara (Zwischen Bears). A rather sullen personality who won't blow up at the media, but unlikely to be a charismatic leader within the clubhouse. That said, she's gotten the Bears to the AIBC semifinals and then set a win record for this league, so she's doing something right.

Zebra policy abandons the traditional idea of a bullpen. Instead, all twelve Zebras pitchers are starters on their professional teams (though they'll also come off the bench to work relief here). They'll start the group stage games in order; no set rules as to who comes in when, feel free to make it up if you're RPing before me (but probably not the starter for either the previous or following game).

Well Birolika are entering the World Baseball Classic, and we're all asking ourselves is it really a good idea? On the one hand we do enjoy baseball, who doesn't? The sun coming down on your neck as you watch the game slowly pass the afternoon by while you drink a cool beer. However that's just the problem, we don't have the weather for stuff like that. It rains ALL the time, not only that but also the rain ruins beer. Nevermind, it's too late now. Thinking about it though, our players are good and also there is somewhere warm in Birolika. I'm talking about the island of Choggawallington, named after Peter Choggswallington of Peldon; it's a warmish island in the large lake to the south of Birolika which is warm due to certain weather patterns in the area. The island is sort of part of Peldon, but it's very suburban, warm, expensive and has the Pods Arena, home to the Peldon Pods. It has a 57,500 capacity which will be full of chanting Peldon fans (until we lose when we'll sell them to you dirt cheap). Anyway, until the first match ADIOS!
With the abolition of private property, then, we shall have true, beautiful, healthy Individualism. Nobody will waste his life in accumulating things, and the symbols for things. One will live. To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.
- Oscar Wilde
