Scorination
-I did say in my bid that I would be using xkoranate. However, due to some administrative problems (OOC: Seems to lag for me too much when scoring tournaments with multiple teams for me, I don't know why :( ) on my end, NSFS will be used. RP Bonus will be asigned straight to the rank, with 0.25 for a bad rp, 0.50 for a decent, 0.75 for solid, and 1.0 for a perfect RP. This also eliminates the problem of overtime, and gives the best RPing team the best chance to win. Scorination cutoffs will occur around 5-6:00pm Toronto-New York time, with scores going up soon after. How the advancements from the group stage will work is that the top team in each group will advance. Next, the top 4 2nd place teams will playoff against each other, in other words the "Wild Cards". The top 2 will advance, giving us 8 teams, which will be reseeded based on group stage win percent. This will wind down to the final 2, who will play a 1 game Iron Bowl for the championship.

Is this where I put my rosters?

Also, is the person who RPs first determines the results (i.e. They RP the match) or do they do something else?

Yes, this is the place to put your roster. After I post the scorination results, the person who RP's first gets to decide who scores, and what happened in the game, as long as the other player allows you too from his roster post. Anyways, please take any further discussion to the World Bowl Discussion thread, we don't want to clog this thread up with OOC questions.

DBK Sports - Gridiron - Our squad for Baptism of Iron 12

Written by Noddy Vale

Here, we will announce our roster for the 12th Baptism of Iron. The Baptism of Iron, or the BOI for short, is an international gridiron tournament for newcomers. The BOI is similar to the Baptism of Fire in football (known as "soccer" in other countries). It is played before the World Bowl (gridiron’s answer to football’s World Cup). Anyway, let’s get on with the squad!

Starters:
Blockers: James Robinson and Percy Haxton
Left tackle: Joe Johnson
Right tackle: Harry Hággo
Left guard: Bob Robertson
Right guard: Val Croppla
Center: Phil Hartson
Quarter-back: Yerrin Band
Half-backs: Otis Cameron and Gary McAlpine
Full-backs: Toby Kavon
Substitutes:
TE: Jordan Backer and John Balbëno
LT: Ron Hackah
RT: Farley Harrington
LG: Neinteen Neintee
RG: Kieran Welby
C: Robin Halpo
QB: Emm Bassie
HB: Harry Berry and Chuck Morrison
FB: Wolff Maxwell

Manager: Ronan Jackson, age 57

Jackson was born in Yavelsk, a city on our northern coast, on 18 August 1958. He grew up loving gridiron, but, as gridiron was banned, and called “handegg”, by our citizens at the time, his school was not allowed to play gridiron, and instead played sports like football, rugby union, and cricket. Jackson, who was bullied at school for liking gridiron, had to instead play gridiron with a youth gridiron club. To get around the gridiron ban, the club had to be based underground the city of Yavelsk. Jackson was enjoying his time at this club, but, in March 1971, when Jackson was twelve, the police force of Yavelsk broke into the underground base of the gridiron club, and arrested every member of staff at the club, and every player at the club, including Jackson. Jackson was sentenced to three months in a young offender’s prison. When Jackson got out, he was just under 2 months away from his 13th birthday. Upon getting out of prison, Jackson was expelled from his middle school for being arrested. Thankfully, Jackson was in his last year of middle school.

Jackson lived with his family lived in one of the poorer suburbs of Yavelsk. This meant that, upon Jackson’s expulsion, his parents could not send him to a private or boarding school. The expulsion was been at the end of Jackson’s spell at his middle school, as already mentioned, meaning that Jackson’s expulsion was pretty much meaningless. Because of this, the middle school decided to tell the high school which Jackson was due to be going to that Jackson could not go to that high school. Instead, Jackson went to a high school on the other side of Yavelsk. He did very well, passing all-but one of his exams.

It was now 1975, and Jackson had just finished high school. He was still mad about gridiron, and thought about playing college football at a university. As gridiron was still illegal in our country, he decided to emigrate to South Slembana, an autonomous colony of ours. South Slembana, despite technically being part of us, had decided to allow gridiron to be played in it. Jackson joined Redrington University, in Redrington, the capital city of South Slembana. As well as playing college football there, he also decided to study politics. He was successful for Redrington University’s college football team, and graduated from university aged 25, having earned a degree in politics. The year when Jackson graduated was 1983, and the month of September.

As Jackson had a politics degree, he decided to not just have it for the sake of having it, and, in 1986, he joined South Slembana’s senate. He was allowed to join the senate of South Slembana due to having gained South Slembanan citizenship, and gained South Slembanan citizenship in early 1980, after having lived in the autonomous colony for five years. Jackson was in the Democratic Party, and, in 1992, after working up the South Slembanan political ladder, became governor of the South Slembanan state of Jenima. 9 years later, in 2001, Jackson was even in the running for becoming the South Slembanan president, but only just missed out, losing to Max Barker of the Republican Party.

All this time, Jackson was still obsessed about Gridiron. He decided to retire from politics after losing the 2001 election. He decided to stay in South Slembana until 2015, when the ban on gridiron was lifted by our government. Our government also decided to change the official name of the sport in our land from “handegg” (which might be considered offensive) to “gridiron” (less offensive). Just after the ban had been lifted, we formed a national gridiron team, and signed up for the Baptism of Iron and the World Bowl. When Jackson heard about the ban being lifted, he was overjoyed. When he heard that we had signed up for the BOI and the WB, he was even more overjoyed. Just to make things even better for Jackson, he was appointed to take charge of our fledgling gridiron team in the BOI and the WB. Jackson accepted, of course. And now, in March 2016, Jackson is our manager. He will be hoping to do well at both the BOI and the World Bowl.

FUCK ISRAEL! I support peace, therefore I stand with Palestine. I want a bi-national solution, a state in which Jews and Palestinians can coexist peacefully. The onus is on Israel to stop this - it can do it anytime by bringing a ceasefire and ending apartheid.

The Daily Sheep

Birolika announce squad for Baptism of Iron

The Baptism of Iron will be our first crack at American Football, however it is less like the BoF in that it might not actually be needed and the winner doesn't always go on to great things as quickly. For example we crashed and burned in the BoI and then couldn't muster anything in qualifying, but it this we could be smashed into the ground and still do OK in the World Bowl. Moving on American football isn't that popular in Birolika, in fact it is seen more as a pre-season for Birolik football (the national sport) and is seen as vastly inferior. The players in this are actually Birolik football players getting (what they see) as some extra-training. The support for the Birolik squad heading out to Sicoutimont consists of people vaguely instrested in the sport and it is seen as a time to raise the profile of the sport. Also on a side note the National American Football Board of Birolika apologises if the roster is wrong as we have no reasonable idea what an American football squad looks like.

MINARDIAN BAPTISM OF IRON SQUAD - DISCUSSED IN DETAIL!

The Groups for the Baptism of Iron have been released, and they contain Ezyrel, Countropia, Estope and our country, Minardi. We should have a good chance of winning our group, though anything can happen as the Baptism of Iron is only for first-time participants.

Their usual strategies are:
Offense: Usually singleback formation, with two WRs and two TEs. Sometimes a WR subs in for a TE, but generally no unnecessary subbing is done. Their RB is quite good (see RB section) so they should do a even mix of running and passing plays.
Defense: Runs a 4-3 formation (4 on the D-Line, 3 Linebackers), except when they are near their endzone, when they put one of the safeties as the Middle Linebacker and the Middle Linebacker becomes a DT. (Called the 5-3).

QUARTERBACK
Starter: Jim Bennett
Backups: Matt McClane, Devin Simmons
Bennett is the obvious choice for starting QB, being one of the best QBs in the country. He has a career passer rating of 110.2 and has a TD-INT rating of 13-13 last season while in college. McClane is a suitable backup, although he has been unproven in college, his technique is undeniable. Simmons is a last-ditch effort, in case Bennett and McClane do not do their jobs. He has a TD-INT rating of 1-10.

RUNNING BACK
Starter: Richard Lynch
Backups: David Jones, David Fischer
The team only has one running back in the starting position, as they mainly run under the singleback formation. (If they need a fullback, they'll grab one of the tight ends. Lynch has the potential to be an all-star running back, having run an average of 75 yards a game while in college. Jones and Fischer aren't really great running backs, averaging 30 yards a game in college, hence the reason behind their singleback formation. Durability shouldn't be a problem for Lynch, as he maintains his health very well, and is unlikely to have an injury.

WIDE RECEIVER
Starters: Johnny Knox, Fernando Marchesi, Michael Manfrin (switch with Bevilacqua)
Backups: Robert Wilson, Alberto Mazzanti
The Wide Receivers have a very huge depth, with Knox and Marchesi the best two in the country. Manfrin, who is also great, can also sub in (numbers wise) for the second tight end, and plays WR. The backups are also very solid. All of them are confident that they can catch and that they can make an impact on the team.

TIGHT END
Starters: Shawn Bates, Arturo Bevilacqua (switch with Manfrin)
Backups: Terry Hawk
The Tight ends are also very good as well. Bates is the best TE in the country, while Bevilacqua is also very good as well. However, his endurance is not as good and sometimes he gets switched for Manfrin and plays WR. Both are also suitable for WR as well. Hawk is a young player and still needs some time before jumping into a starting position.

OFFENSIVE LINE
Starters (current position): Jacques LaRossa (RT), Derien Johnson (RG), Eric Nugent (C, also Long Snapper), Michael Prosser (LG), Cecil Harris (LT)
Backups: Kenny Farfan (C, backup Long Snapper), Austin Miller (any but C), Martin Smith (any but C)
Their offensive line may need work, but we think that their line will definitely hold up. They have the best Tackles in the group, and their long snappers are also excellent and nearly flawless. Their problems come with the Guards, they sometimes have a tendency of being lazy. But their coach should clear any problems soon. The good think is that with the exceptions of Nugent and Farfan, everyone can easily swap into a position should it become necessary.

DEFENSIVE LINE
Starters (current position): Jason Melbourne (DE), Sylvester Bernard (DT), Michael Richardson (DT), Tommy Mitchell (DE)
Backups: Marcello Milanesi, Gerrard Li Fonti
Their defensive line needs work, as they have troubles stopping the screen pass (with the exception of Melbourne), and are a bit slow. Bernard and Richardson did combine for 12 sacks last season in college, which should help their credentials. Mitchell also has three recovered fumbles in his career all-time as well. They should be good enough to help out the team.

LINEBACKERS
Starters: Liam McCloud (LOLB), Kieran Simmons (MLB), Ray Austin (ROLB)
Backups: Mario Romano, Ernesto Marchesi
Their starting linebackers are beasts! They all combine for 15 sacks last season, 15 interceptions, and all have recovered a fumble at least once. Austin, however, is fragile and should be watched closely. Kieran Simmons and McCloud are definite leaders for the team and should be able to define this team as one of the best in the BOI.

CORNERBACKS
Starters: Damon Cronkite, Estevan Sousa
Backups: Kevin Hanson (also backup SS) Liam Hall, Alex St.Clair, David Warren
The Cornerbacks are decent enough to be called Cornerbacks, as Cronkite has three INTs and Sousa has two. Trouble is, they are injury-prone and should be looked at with a close eye. They should be OK for the BOI, though.

SAFETIES
Starters: Colm Stevenson, Ben Alexander
Backups: Kevin Hanson (also backup CB), Collin Griffin
The Safeties are a great asset to the team. Stevenson and Alexander should be feared on the field, for they combined for 20 INTs last season and Hanson, although he is backup in the safety position, says he is better off at Cornerback, but he is happy as Safety. Hanson has three INTs last season.

SPECIAL TEAMS
Punter/Kickoff: Greg James (Backup: Jeffrey Bloggs)
Kicker: Sean Grey (Backup: Jeffrey Bloggs)
Placeholder: Devin Simmons (Starter), Matt McClane (backup, unlikely) [both QBs]
Kick Returner: Johnny Knox (WR, starts), Fernando Marchesi (WR, backup)

On Kickoff: Jason Melbourne (DE), Ray Austin (ROLB), Jacques LaRossa (RT), Derien Johnson (RG), Michael Prosser (LG), Michael Richardson (DT), Damon Cronkite (CB), Colm Stevenson (SS), Ben Alexander (SS), Collin Griffin (SS) + Kicker
On Punt Team: O-Line, plus Safeties replacing at where Wide Receivers would be, plus CBs (Damon Cronkite and Estevan Sousa) Jason Melbourne (DE) subbing for the RB and going on the O-Line, and obviously the Punter where the QB would be
On Kick Return Team: Starting Defense minus Safety Ben Alexander and adding Kick Returner
Field Goal Team: Starting O-Line, Jason Melbourne (DE), and Michael Richardson (DT) subbing for WRs and going on the O-Line, RB and QB subbed for Kicker and Placeholder (see above)
On Punt Return Team: Same as Kick Return Team
(If I forgot anything let me know.)

Nothing special here. They get the job done, but they're not anything that gets put on the front page. Still, their Kick Returners are very fast. If only the D-Line was any good...

And there is the team! A very in-depth analysis, huh? We predict that the team advance through the group stage, and, at the very least, make it into the wild card round.

DBK Sports - Gridiron - Our Baptism of Iron opponents rated

Written by Eric Smith

Here, we will rate our opponents for the 12th Baptism of Iron, an international gridiron tournament which is to be hosted by Sicoutimont. The Baptism of Iron, or the BoI for short, is like the Baptism of Fire for football ("soccer" in some other nations). Both tournaments are for new nations, and both are held before the big international tournament in each sport (the World Bowl in gridiron, and the World Cup in the football). We are in Group 1, and were the first team drawn in the whole tournament. The teams we will face are:

Bathengia: We've heard of this nation, but haven't really interacted with them. They have some sort of cat on their flag, and were place on the waiting list for the 62nd World Cup, but weren't drafted in as one of the teams to replace a "dead" nation. We predict a win for ourselves.
Riyahda: We've played this nation twice in football (soccer) before, winning one and drawing another. This nation is, as far as we know the only nation in a region called "Robin Hood". We think we'll probably sneak a tight win against them.
Maklohi Vai: This nation is probably the country in our group which we know the most of. They have been in many football (soccer) tournaments alongside us, such as our Friendly Cup, and the Copa Gaveos. We think Maklohi Vai will cause us the most trouble, and we think we will lose against them.

If our predictions come true, we will finish with two wins and one loss, which should see us through to the knockout stages, barring a big cock-up by us, or another bad thing which happens. This will give us six points, assuming that there are three points for a win, one for a draw, and none for a loss.

We will play Bathengia on matchday 1, Riyahda on matchday 2, and Maklohi Vai on matchday 3.

FUCK ISRAEL! I support peace, therefore I stand with Palestine. I want a bi-national solution, a state in which Jews and Palestinians can coexist peacefully. The onus is on Israel to stop this - it can do it anytime by bringing a ceasefire and ending apartheid.

Estope announced their roster today for the 12th Baptism of Iron. Estope will rely mainly on the run but dual threat quarterback Noll Walen may be the most exciting player on the team. He is able to make plays with both his arm and his feet and can take control of close games under high pressure situations. However the real story may be Estope's shut down defense. Although this is the first tournament Estope is entered in, the coaching staff has been very impressed with how well this defense has played especially the pass rush and the secondary.

Shadowbourne will begin group play today in its first-ever Baptism of Iron. The game will be Shadowbourne's first international match in American football. As there is no gridiron league currently playing in Shadowbourne, the team will be made up largely of university players, with several Bournean players that compete in other countries joining the team as well. The team also has a few oddballs in the crowd: star soccer player Andrew Wirahadi joins the team as a WR, rugby player Philipo Theofanous joins the team as a SS,and sumo wrestler Jianguo Zhang joins the team as both an OG and a DT. When asked about the difficulty of teaching those players American football in just a few weeks, head coach Ram Cavalletti said, "Its been a real challenge, but the guys have really come out ready to learn and to play, and I think they'll be as ready as ever when they take the field this Sunday." Shadowbourne was drawn into a group with the Lunar Republic Islands, Bloodbath Generation, and Cambriano. Their first match will be against Bloodbath Generation this Sunday. Notable Bourneans who will be in attendance are Hopscotch Twista, rap mogul and noted sports fan, and Pakarapolchanan Sorokin, the manager of the national soccer team, who will be in attendance to see Andrew Wirahadi take on a new sport. Chief Executive Dumisani Kostic is unable to attend, as he is on the campaign trail, but Athletics Minister Rocco Osunduba will attend in his place.

Shadowbourne's first game will be nationally televised on SNSN. Coverage begins at 3:45 PM. Kickoff is at 4:15 PM.

BENNETT PROVES TOO MUCH FOR COUNTROPIA DEFENCE
Quarterback Jim Bennett did his job and then some by throwing for over 400 yards by beating Countropia in the first game of the Baptism of Iron. The Countropian defense was overwhelmed by the QB's three passing TDs.

The Minardian defense was without safety Colm Stevenson, who was out with bronchitis suddenly. He will start for the next game, and hopes to not have a re-occurence of his troubles. Kevin Hanson subbed in and managed to get an interception before the end of the half.

The game started out quite badly for the Minardians, as they mis-managed the first kickoff and started on the five, then Bennett accidentally drew an "Intentional Grounding" penalty in the endzone, causing a safety. The Minardian offence rebounded in the first quarter, first with a TD from Johnny Knox, and then a 20-yard TD from RB Richard Lynch. In the second quarter, Sean Grey, the kicker, placed two field goals within five minutes (thanks to an interception by Kieran Simmons), before Countropia scored a TD from their star Wide Receiver. (We couldn't get their names since they only had their numbers on their jerseys.)

The second half started strangely, as Countropia's kicker got three field goals within the third quarter, and the score was 18-14 in favour of Countropia. Then Bennett lit up the field on fire, as he threw 250 yards from that point onward. After throwing TDs to Fernando Marchesi and Johnny Knox (again), the game was 34-18 at the end of the game.

But perhaps another great story was their great defense, as they managed to get three interceptions in the game. Kieran Simmons, the undisputed captain of the defense, said he was very pleased with the game. "It's a good way to start off our campaign in the Baptism of Iron. I'm really confident that we can win the group. We just gotta keep playing hard and to never lift."

Jim Bennett was equally as pleased with the game as a whole, but was a bit wary of their early-game jitters. "That safety was unacceptable. The O-Line didn't do their job there and caused me to throw the ball. I didn't like the ref's call as well, but what can you do? Anyways, we need to do a better job at the beginning of the game. It could cost us late in the game."

The fans were very pleased during the game. Even if it's a bit of a trip from their home country, they had nothing but positives about the host country. "They make good poutine," remarked one of the fans. Then he went on heckling about the host country's team. "We have a quarterback, and not a dollar." he quipped. Still, most of the fans were very respectful and happy that they came out with a win in the Baptism of Iron.

Tyrants Beats Powersith: Holiday Declared

Our Dearest Leader has declared a national holiday tomorrow so that loyal fans of Gridiron can watch the Tyrants Patriots in action, after their win over Powersith last night. Cris Fisher powered over the line to score a late touchdown, as Tyrants showed the world its prowess. After the match, Head Coach Fred Derbun spoke highly of the team "They really held it together, especially when they were down after the break. Cris' run was amazing, as was the touchdown. We hope to see the same again tomorrow."

Shadowbourne pulled out a victory in its first ever international gridiron match this Sunday, defeating Bloodbath Generation by 9 points. The attack was led by WR Andrew Wirahadi, who was making his gridiron debut. Wirahadi, considered by many to be the nation's top soccer star, was originally invited to a team practice to try out for the position of Kicker, but Head Coach Ram Cavalletti caught him messing around with superstar QB Ion Petrovic and invited him back to try out as a WR. Wirahadi led the team in scoring, accounting for 20 of the team's 29 points. He managed to rack up a pair of touchdowns, along with two extra points and two field goals. The team struggled early, and was losing 17 - 7 at the end of the first half. However, in the second half, Cavalletti's high-octane 5 WR Spread formation dominated Bloodbath Generation through the air, with Petrovic running for a touchdown himself, and heaving a deep throw to Wirahadi in the opening minutes of the 4th quarter. The team's two field goals were made possible courtesy of their new-found option running attack. Cavalletti exploited the extra space his spread offense had created, going to the option multiple times in the second half, keeping the defense honest while also picking up moderate to lengthy gains in the process. The defense scored their only points of the game when Bloodbath Generation QB Mario Montero* was called for intentional grounding in his own endzone. While the defense struggled in many regards, Coach Cavaletti remains positive. "I really think these guys are a solid core. They just need more experience, is all.," was all the coach had to say when questioned on the matter. All in all, the game was a great way for Shadowbourne to begin its international gridiron history, and excitement for the sport in Shadowbourne is at an all-time high. Shadowbourne will take on Cambriano in their next group game. The game will take place this afternoon, and will be televised live on SNSN.

From the Lunar Chronicle

The Lunar Repubic Islands Football team is on the bubble and needs to win its next game. The have to defeat Shadowbourne or hope Cambriano loses. But coach Billy Back knows the team must win. "We can win, I believe 110% in this football team, we came a long way and the road doesn't stop here." He said after a win over Bloodbath 31-24. "We played great and we never gave up. And the next game I'm gonna come out and play my heart out." QB Ben Maukaid afterwards. If the LRI wants to advance, they must beat Shadowbourne. The team is fired up and full or momentum and confidence.

Tyrants Overpowers Zirakul: Dearest Leader Declares Ticker Tape Parade If Third Game Won

Dearest Leader Sebastian Sardon has today declared a ticker-tape parade and a bank holiday if the Tyrants Gridiron team win all 3 matches, after the team overpowered Zirakul 25-13. Cris Fisher shone as he put in 3 touchdowns to aid the team to victory. Head Coach Fred Derbun spoke to us after the match: "We really shone out there. With this pace, we could make it to the finals and maybe even win. Plus we still have the World Bowl to go. It really is an awesome time to be a Gridiron fan." Tyrants plays tomorrow against the Sandwich territories. All they have to do to be sure of winning the group is managing a draw or a win. This reporter hopes it to be the latter.
Ladies and gentlemen, the following contest is scheduled for 1 fall, and is a Dixieland match!

Shadowbourne is teetering on the verge of a national celebration, after their national gridiron team won their second game of the BoI and has almost managed to advance past group play. Shadowbourne will play the Lunar Republic Islands and hopes to pull out a victory. A win would guarentee the squad a playoff birth, something Bourneans have long awaited in an international tournamnet of this magnitude. As a result, Chief Executive Dumisani Kostic and Athletics Minisiter Rocco Osunduba held a joint press conference to announce that all school will be canceled in an effort to encourage citizens to cheer on the national team. Head Coach Ram Cavarelli made his public statement yesterday, saying, "This is our oppurtunity to shine and show the world what Shadowbourne is made of! We are absolutely determined to win this game, and we knoow that we can do it." Let's hope all goes well for Cavarelli and the troops.
