First Match
Boring Paradise 0-3 Estope

Last Night was our first night of football in Mapletish. We were against Estope who lost their match against The Kingdom of Phoenixia. The match did not start well as we had a change in our team. We gave our young players a rest as it was that they were travelling for a long time. So we had gave them the rest against Estope.

After the 30th minute Jacob Lawrence came with the first goal. Then came Thomas Rispin with the ball, he passed to Paul Bell and it was about to be a goal. Then one of Estope's defenders, Ivan Sherman came in and made the a handall. As he thought it was going in. Ivan Sherman was given a straight red. The penalty was given to Paul Bell. The strike was superb but it wasn't enough as Ashton Pate saved the ball, and the ball continued.

On the 60th minute came the first goal from his hat-trick from Travis Barria. The goalie couldn't do anything and the final score was 3-0 to Estope.

Our next match will be against The Kingdom of Phoenixia. They won their match against Estope on the first day of the Friendly Cup. The youngsters will come back in play in this match tonight. The manager of Boring Paradise will be expecting more from the players next match.

OUR BOYS SECURE PROGRESSION

2 goals from Eddie Hazzard saw off minnows Arkland and secured Cosgravia's progression to the next round of the Friendly Cup. A spectular 30 yard drive inside the opening 3 minutes gave Hazzard his third goal of the tournamnet and his 50th of relatively short international career. The Coskigrad United superstar scored again just before halftime to secure the victory. Arkland came close with 2 freekicks in the dying moments, but the Bears held on for the win. Gregor Vallieri praised Hazzard's steller performance, and reitterated his belief that Cosgravia can win the tournament.

We almost gave those Naughty Monks a lesson! But got beaten by Slembana!
Part of a series on the 4th Friendly Cup

First matchday, we haven't started too well. It resulted in a game with Slembana, 0-3.
But it wasn't too dissapointing. The Slembanan players had lots of sportsmanship. Saying good game, and you did well. Now that's what we call athletes.
Second matchday, you could say we have won. If you're optimistic enough. We tied The Naughty Monks, 0-0.
Not a bad start, but we're expecting more from our team.
Coach Mayers stated, ''Well, not bad. We could do a bit better, but after all it is the Friendly Cup. Point of it is friendliness. Sportsmanship and a good time. That's what matters most to me.''

Maddie Kytle arrested for stealing player's knife
After last night's 5-3 loss to the Hujukialand team, one of the team's players, Kytle, showed a bout of poor sportsmanship by attempting to steal a knife from one of the opposing players, known as "Muka." Kytle was then arrested by authorities for theft, and spent the night in a jail. This is not the first time Kytle has been involved in questionable behavior, as he was previously banned for a year after accidentally killing another player with a flying headbutt. The Swiss coach ordered the entire team to apologize to "Muka." We don't know very much about his knife, but sources say that is is "very special to him."

MUKA: They got my knife! They got my motherfuckin* knife! What am I supposed to do now without Mr. Sharpointy?
KOKOLOKOHOJOKALLAMENIRSTALUMBANA: That name sounds cute for a knife that has killed 654 people so far
MUKA: 722, man, you live in the past. Anyways, I swear to god I'm going to take revenge if they don't give it back. I SWEAR TO GOD!
KOKOLOKOHOJOKALLAMENIRSTALUMBANA: Just leave it in the past and buy a newer, better, more expensive one.
MUKA: NO! Mr. Sharpointy was special to me. I can't replace him.
KOKOLOKOHOJOKALLAMENIRSTALUMBANA: Talk about living in the past....
MUKA: Well, at least I live 1 day in the past, not 2 months.
KOKOLOKOHOJOKALLAMENIRSTALUMBANA: You really managed to kill 58 people in 2 months?
MUKA: So what? It isn't even near to my record. 122 in 2 minutes.
KOKOLOKOHOJOKALLAMENIRSTALUMBANA: Bombs don't count.
MUKA: Oh.... Anyways, you've got off-topic. The thing is, that criminal has got my knife! It's barbaric.
KOKOLOKOHOJOKALLAMENIRSTALUMBANA: Sure, that's barbaric, but killing 122 people in 2 minutes is not.
MUKA: At least the deaths were instant, missing my knife is something that lasts longer....

Emphatic win kicks off title defence
Royal Britannia 5-1 The Caspar

A brace from Stuart Holland and Steve Ferer helped Royal Britannia power past The Caspar in a dominant display at the Dalmer Stadium. The Brits went ahead after six minutes, with Stuart Holland scoring a thumping header following an in swinging corner from Roger Sendon. The second came on twenty five minutes, with Neil Dyche racing clear of the defence to slot past Gino Holland. Midfielder Joel Bell scored for The Caspar on the brink of half time, before a stoppage time goal from Ferer helped restore his teams two goal cushion.

After the break, Kállai Gabor was unlucky not to win a penalty for the trailing side, following an apparent trip on him by Terry Davidson. The controversy deepened as, from the resulting long ball by Davidson, Holland raced clear of defender Robert Ayers to score a sweet side footed finish. The Brits missed a penalty with eleven minutes to go, with Stuart Holland denied by his namesake in The Caspar’s goal. Despite the miss, Steve Ferer wrapped things up in stoppage time, scoring a simple tap in at the far post following a peach of a cross by substitute Richard Ellis, who came on to make his debut for the national team.

The Slembana Times: Another win in the fourth Friendly Cup

By Peter Whiteman, chief football reporter at The Bird-Nest, Mapletish (attendance unknown)

We have recorded our second successive win in the fourth Friendly Cup, beating The Naughty Monks 4-2 in our second game of the tournament. This win puts us top of Group C with two of our four group games played.

Despite this, it was TNM who opened the scoring, taking the lead after just two minutes. Their star playmaker played a lovely through ball into their star striker, who fired home from the corner of the penalty box. We were rocked by this goal, with TNM almost going 2-0 up in the 5th minute. Their other striker saw a low shot pushed wide by Toby Gapman, our goalkeeper. This close call seemed to give us a boost, with our players raining down shots on the TNM goal almost every minute. A close range shot from Val Kylx that hit the post was our best chance in that spell, which ended with us equalizing in the 15th minute.

A long ball down the pitch from Callum Potts, our right-back, found our left-winger, Yuppë Tárnix, who twisted inside the TNM right-back, before crossing the ball into the box. Eddie Barlow met the ball with a great header, which was powered towards goal thanks to Barlow's outstreched neck muscles, and the powerful connection his head hit the ball with. However, the header banged off the TNM crossbar. Despite this, the ball fell to Val Kylx, our 18 year-old star striker, who was standing 25 yards out. Kylx twisted around 180 degrees, before flicking the ball up into the air. Kylx met the ball again in mid-air with a fantastic bicycle kick. The ball sailed through the air, before finding itself in the mid right-hand corner of the TNM goal. This beautiful goal levelled the scores at 1-1.

We continued our dominance we had before we scored into the period after we did so, with Kylx, Barlow, Finlay Yalnif, Jyvx Dagens, and Tárnix all coming close for us. So it was no surprise when we took the lead in the 32nd minute, Eddie Barlow curling brilliantly past the TNM goalie to give us a 2-1. We went further ahead in the 39th minute, with Dagens curling home a beautiful free-kick from 25 yards to give us a 3-1 lead. However, the TNM players reminded us that they were still in the game by scoring their second goal in first-half stoppage time. A great cross from their left-winger found their star striker, who flicked it onto their other striker, who in turn headed home at the back post to pull the score back to 3-2 to us. The first-half was an incredibly exciting half, with five goals being scored - three to us, and two to TNM.

The second-half wasn't as exciting as the first-half, as there was only one goal in it - our fourth goal, which came in the 79th minute, killing TNM off. This goal was scored by Tárnix, who danced inside the TNM right-back, before passing the ball to Dagens. Dagens passed the ball back to Tárnix, who fired a low shot towards goal with his weaker right foot. The ball zipped into the bottom corner, giving us a 4-2 lead. At the time of the goal, both teams had been as equally as dominant in the second half, with a Kylx chip that was just caught by the TNM goalie being our best chance of the second half up until our fourth goal of the game, and TNM's best chance in the second-half minutes between the game resuming and us scoring a fourth being a backheel from their star striker which hit the post. After the goal, we were totally dominant, and we could have easily scored another two or three goals after our fourth. But the game ended at 4-2 to us - which is still satisfactory, of course.

Shock first defeat for the Brits
Mapletish 7-5 Royal Britannia

Royal Britannia controversially lost their second game of the fourth friendly cup to hosts Mapletish, following a late flurry of goals from the opposition. The hosts started strongly, going ahead in the ninth minute thanks to Apolinar Pedro, and doubled their lead five minutes later following a strong header from Espiridión Teófilo. The stunned Brits replied on 27 minutes, as Stuart Holland lashed in a long range effort, before Mapletish restored their two goal cushion thanks to a second from Pedro.

In the second half, Royal Britannia came out a new team, with midfielder Jack Owens tapping in at the far post against a helpless Natanael Alfredo, following a lobbed pass by Steve Ferer. The Brits drew level after 57 minutes, with a Stuart Holland penalty, following a trip on Neil Dyche on the edge of the area. However, Apolinar Pedro completed his hat trick not two minutes after the penalty, following a deft one two with fellow striker Epifanio Santos. And Mapletish hit five on 73 minutes, as Aarón Ernesto powered in a thunderous free kick past the helpless George Shankley.

As the game approached 80 minutes, substitute Tom Simms grabbed what looked to be a consolation goal from a Sendon corner, before jubilation from the Britannic fans as John Adams sprang up from his left back position to thump home a volley to secure what looked like a point for Royal Britannia. Nonetheless, Mapletish fought back and scored what looked to be an offside goal through Ramiro Rosendo. Controversy ensued, as a heavy challenge on Simms had the players, and the crowd, incensed. In the ensuing chaos, as George Shankley raced from his goal to remonstrate with the referee, Miguelito Eutimio was able to lob the ball into the empty Royal Britannia net, to the disapproval of all Brits in the stadium.

South Slembana 0-0 Maklohi Vai

The Vaian defense remained strong today, and has not yet allowed a goal through two games. Observers have commented that the 5-3-2 scheme is one of the most effective defensive schemes that can be employed, but it puts extra pressure on the strikers to make plays for themselves. Either way, the scheme will get a test not only in this tournament, but also in Copa Gaveo and the BoF.

MUKA: Imagine the following scenario: we don't qualify
KOKOLOKOHOJOKALLAMENIRSTALUMBANA: We'd have to lose by an enormous amount of goals against the likes of the Old Guard, we're certainly continuing to the Round of 16.
MUKA: Yeah, I know. The Old Guard just lost 5-0 to FSS. I can't believe how bad they are. It seems that ever since they hosted the 2nd edition they've been onto some real bad luck.
KOKOLOKOHOJOKALLAMENIRSTALUMBANA: Yeah, lack of skill.
MUKA: Yep, pretty much that. Anyway,s we have another bye tomorrow. I don't know you, but I'll go get some money from some banks. I recovered my knife.
KOKOLOKOHOJOKALLAMENIRSTALUMBANA: I might join you. By the way, how did you get it back?
MUKA: I wouldn't like to talk about it, but if I had to say just one adjective, I'd describe it as sanguinary.
KOKOLOKOHOJOKALLAMENIRSTALUMBANA: Did it involve killing?
MUKA: Sanguinary....
KOKOLOKOHOJOKALLAMENIRSTALUMBANA: I guess that's a yes.
MUKA: Will you join me on getting illicit money?
KOKOLOKOHOJOKALLAMENIRSTALUMBANA: Well, I don't have anything better to do, so yes.
MUKA: Well, let's go.

good start for the Phoenixian Kingdom:

Postby Kingdom of Phoenixia » Mon Oct 01, 2012 4:27 pm

Hi, I'm Thorsten Abels for Channel 7, reporting from the Arch in Mapletish.
Football is a sport who can't bring any quote, this was the popular believe of nearly all broadcasts until now. After the devastating looses in the Baptism of Fire and Worldcup last year the bets stand very badly for us but again football proved himself as a tricky game full of surprises.
It where two hard matches against Estope and Boring Paradise, both decided by only one goal difference but still the Kingdom is only a step away from the knockout stages, a draw in the game tonight or a win from Boring Paradise and we would be in the first International finals since the founding of the Phoenixian Football Association in 1974.
Tonight thousands of fans will watching from the TVs, bars and restaurants are reporting over massive space problems by now and even on the Streets you can find improvised groups of fans standing over radios or TVs.
Yes it is only a friendly cup but with every win of the team the hopes will raise higher not to be the last placed team in the WC-Qualification group this year.

We've won a game!

After Old Guard's shock win against the Free Swiss States, there has been much celebrating in Old Guard. So much celebrating the a national holiday has been declared and the player all given three weeks pay as a bonus.

The goals came from Xav the Fast, and two from Jeff the Great, who has now become great. Who knows, we may progress beyonf this group at some point?

Maklohi Vai's staunch defense held South Slembana to only 2 shots on goal, and the Vaians won 2-0. There was consistent ball hounding and aggressive slide tackling from the Vaians, forcing a Slembanan pass completion rate of only 38 percent. After the match, commentator Noulo Amoilani said, "We've got some real chemistry in this team. They're all willing to play the defensive scheme, and no one is selfish and trying to play for their own gain. And it's good they're taking thus tournament seriously. It's the best warmup we could have for the BoF."

The Slembana Times: Bore draw secures progression into Friendly Cup 4 second round

By Peter Whiteman, chief football reporter at the Bird-Nest, Mapletish (attendance unknown)

We have drawn our third game of the fourth Friendly Cup 0-0 with The Naughty Monks - a result which secures our progression into the round of 16 of the tournament, with us having just one game yet. The worst that can happen will be that we will finish second behind Anollasia on head-to-head records, goal difference - and goal scored, if we lose by a big enough margin. Anyway, let's get on with our current match.

The best chance of the first half fell to TNM's star striker, who saw a 9-yard shot caught decently by our goalkeeper, Toby Gapman, just before it was about to cross the line. This was on 24 minutes, and it came after a quick counter-attack which caught us napping. Our best chance was on 12 minutes, when Val Kylx, our star striker, somehow hit the post from close range. Kylx had received a brilliant cross from Finlay Yalnif, and if he had not hit the post, he would have scored his 49th goal in 59 internationals. Eddie Barlow, Kylx, Yalnif, Jyvx Dagens, and Yuppë Tárnix had other good scoring chances for us, amongst some other players wasting good chances (like our captain, Gavin Stockwell, who hit the bar with a powerful header on 43 minutes), while almost all of TNM's attacking players had at least one good scoring opportunity in the first half - an example of these chances for TNM was when their playmaker hit the post with a tremendous free-kick on 29 minutes.

The second almost started excellently for us - only for Barlow to see an extremely powerful effort from 30 yards to be brilliantly saved by TNM's goalkeeper. TNM's strikers had a lot of good chances after that, with both players hitting the bar and the post, and both seeing a shot saved by Gapman. The player behind these attacks was TNM's playmaker, who was one of the best players on the pitch in this match. Meanwhile, our wingers, Yalnif and Tárnix, were supplying good crosses into Kylx and Barlow (and also other players in the box at the time of crossing, like our centre-backs, Stockwell and Don Adobe).

After 68 minutes, TNM's star defender dangerously slid in on Kylx. As well as the defender getting a red card, we had a penalty. Kylx stepped up to take it. His run-up was excellent, and he struck the ball powerfully towards the top left-hand corner. However, TNM's goalkeeper guessed correctly, and palmed the ball away at the last second. Kylx was in despair at missing his spot-kick - a great scoring chance wasted. Meanwhile, TNM's fans - and players - were celebrating a cheering as if they had won the World Cup - they hadn't, of course. Their goalkeeper had only saved a penalty in a Friendly Cup group stage match.

Rather than sparking TNM into life, the penalty miss actually sparked us into life. We were creating chances at will, shooting almost every minute. Our best chance of this spell was when a curler from Yalnif was palmed away by the TNM goalie. We were creating chances right until the final whistle, bombarding the TNM goal, and making the TNM 'keeper a very, very busy man. However, our attempts to score a winner were in vain. However, we have surely secured progression into the second round of the fourth Friendly Cup now, which is a good thing.

That’s more like it!
Royal Britannia 1-1 Mapletish

Royal Britannia struggled to a well earned draw after a gritty display against hosts Mapletish. Following the controversy the two teams last encounter, tensions were high in the opening few minutes, with Kyle Johnson giving away a close range free kick in the early stages. It was delivered by Aarón Ernesto, with Santos unlucky not to meet it with his head following a strong catch from Shankley. Mapletish had another chance after half an hour, with Apolinar Pedro losing out to Shankley in a one on one.

In the second half, the Brits woke up slightly, with Stuart Holland forcing a good save from a bullet header following a Steve Ferer cross. However, it was Mapletish who went ahead on fifty six minutes after a strong volley from Espiridión Teófilo from nine yards. Although the game was mainly bogged down in midfield, Neil Dyche managed to wiggle his way through Nacio Aurelio to set up substitute Will Edwardson to score the equaliser eleven minutes from time.

MUKA: So.... Old Guard won their 1st game.
KOKOLOKOHOJOKALLAMENIRSTALUMBANA: Yeah. FSS has really turned into a bad team if this happened. Also, two byes and we're still 1st team of the group.
MUKA: Yeah man, and we've almost assured qualifying. I mean, we'd have to lose to FSS and Old Guard by an incredible amount of goals. Mainly against Old Guard
KOKOLOKOHOJOKALLAMENIRSTALUMBANA: Yeah, and even if we found ourselves in trouble we could bribe or threaten the referee for the last match. Specially with the money we've just got.
MUKA: Yeah, you're kinda getting the hang of how to rob dude. You were fantastic the other day. Those policemen certainly weren't expecting it. Not at all.
KOKOLOKOHOJOKALLAMENIRSTALUMBANA: Thanks, I think I've known how to manage myself with just a machine gun.
MUKA: Hey! I manage to rob with a knife!
KOKOLOKOHOJOKALLAMENIRSTALUMBANA: Yeah, but you're too experienced. You could destroy a building with just your knife.
MUKA: You know what? I think I might try that tonight.
KOKOLOKOHOJOKALLAMENIRSTALUMBANA: Don't, we gotta rest for the match against FSS.
MUKA: Always ruining the fun, huh? I promise it'll be quick.
KOKOLOKOHOJOKALLAMENIRSTALUMBANA: Make sure to do it far from our hotel and quickly. I don't want to be buried in dust.
MUKA: Don't worry dude, don't worry....

Kintratar beats Gangnam 4-1 and 1-0 and also takes a spot in Round of 16
Gangnam couldn't get too much done in these games, besides allowing 5 goals.
Kintratar looks at a 2-1-0 record, and is very happy. "We got this team the first match, and the pride and determination along with confidence drove us to a 3 goal win" said one of the players. The fact that this is Kintratar's first soccer debut in the Friendly Cup AND that this is Kintratar's SECOND debut in soccer, having played in only Copa Gaveo 2, is pretty amazing for Kintratar's futbol. Here's Kintratar's leading goal scorers:
Jurrns Oul - 3
Zerrad Ilopsid - 1
Nurnh Olaps - 1

FSS Has No Time to Roleplay
We talked with team captain Donovan Menelle, who confessed to us that the team has little to no time to fulfill their sexual roleplaying desires due to the team's increased training duration after their 2-3 loss to the Old Guard. "You know what really blows?" he said. "Well, not us, that's for sure."

Postby Maklohi Vai » Wed Oct 03, 2012 7:00 am

Maklohi Vai won 1-0 over Bacon today, with team highs in passing completion percentage (84) and in percent possession (62). All four goals in this tournament have been scored by strikers, with Tumo Makanopalani garnering three of those, including the one in this match. All four goals have also come in the first half. Players are pleased with their performance, to the extent they went out as a team on the night of the game. But in a team meeting, assistant Unilo Anomalopai reminded the team to keep their vigilance and to keep practicing:"The worst team is not the one that doesn't score. The worst team is the one that doesn't prepare."
