Tennis is a relatively new sport in Maklohi Vai, as it was only brought in by tourists about 40 years ago. But hopes remain high for this tournament, as the second generation of competitors is just now reaching their peak. Mixed Doubles has always been a strongsuit of Vaians, and hopefully this tournament will prove that true to the world. The Vaian people are quite interested in this tournament, as the country just had its first tennis championships. In all, with hope and interest going in, Maklohi Vai hopes to have a great tournament coming out.

"Well, friend, it looks like there's some other obscure sport going on today."
"Indeed. The tennis players will be looking for some glory."
"That Geewan guy doesn't look so hot, the TV said."
"The TV says a lot of things."
"True, my friend."
"The girl's got a decent shot, though."
"She groans a bit much for my tastes. I don't see how some people enjoy that."
"I like it."

White Wins in Five Set Thriller

Postby Estope » Fri Sep 28, 2012 8:54 pm

Jared White cruised through the first two sets before struggling through the final three against Frank Iii to win his first match in the World Tennis Tournament. After only dropping one game in the first set, White took an early break to easily win the second set. Iii though responding taking a break late in both the third and forth sets to force a fifth set. Frank Iii broke White in the second game and quickly took a 3-0 lead. White appeared to be out of it when Iii took a 0-40 lead in the third game until he served up three straight aces on his way to sin in deuce. White proceeded to win five of the next six games to win the final set 6-4.

Tennis Woes

Team HAN didn't get off to a great start in the World Tennis Tournament. The Men's and Women's competitions have both started with competitors Charles Matthews and Eve Atkins both losing their opening matches.

Matthews, drawn in Group B, played Jani Häkkinen of Great-Bohemia only won 1 of the four sets leaving him bottom of the group standings.

Hakkinen (GBO) 7 7 4 6
Matthews (HAN) 5 5 6 3

Atkins had somewhat better luck, despite also losing 1-3 against Anna Lebeva of VANTELIRA, in that she is placed third in the group as Kirby of The Gypsies lost without winning a set.

Lebeva (VAN) 6 6 4 6
Atkins (HAN) 3 1 6 4

For now it doesn't look that successful but things are expected to pick up here in Super-Lamaland in around 10 days time when the doubles begin if the predictions of the Hanalian Tennis Federation are to be believed. Our dream team of Dixon and Harding will be playing in the mixed competition with Dixon also expected to do well in his gents pairing with Matthews.

Tenis was relativity new sport in Gaveo but our new tenis star with the last name of Santos is inspiring people to take up tennis. He is now in the World Tennis Tornament (WTT) and this is his chance to make a tennis a Gaveoan super sport just as Football (Int. Sort) is famous in Gaveo. This is it, can Santos make Gaveo known in tennis? We will find out.

Surprise Success

Today in New Llama there was a surprise win for Hanalian player, Eve Atkins in the Women's singles competition. After a disappointing first round she managed to beat her opponent Janet Kirby from The gypsies 3 sets to 1, moving her up to third in the group.

Kirby (GYP) 6 5 4 3
Atkins (HAN) 4 7 6 6

Her teammate, Charles Matthews, wasn't as fortunate as he lost to, Pineapplesburg competitor, Frank iii in a close match that went against our hopeful with 5 games to 7 in the 4th set leaving the final score at 3-1. Another loss keeps Matthews at the bottom of his group going into his final match tomorrow.

1-1

Postby Gaveo » Thu Oct 04, 2012 1:28 pm

Santos now is 1-1 when he won he last match. Will make it 2-1? We think so, Santos is one of Gaveo's greatest tennis players ever and he should go far in the tournament, but that doesn't mean he will face fierce resistance from equally good players from all over the world, hopefully Santos can go through them and bring Gaveo glory. Go Santos! Go Gaveo!
