Copa Rushmori XI
Falconfar

Welcome to the most prestigious tournament in the region of Rushmore, the Copa Rushmori, now celebrating its eleventh edition! This time, it is being hosted in the Triumvirate Queendom of Falconfar, the greater portion of the Unified Republic of Unified Falcon, which actually sits in space, only connected to Rushmore by a space bridge. (For more IC information of the country and venues, look to the next post.)

Format:
There will be nine groups of four teams. After three matches, the top two teams will advance. There will be a play-in game between the fifteenth through eighteenth seeds to determine who actually makes it through to the playoffs and then there will be straight knockout rounds with a hard bracket.

I will be using the NSFS formula in xkoranate. All style modifiers from -5 to +5 will be accepted. Wins will count as three points and draws one point. Tiebreakers will be Points > Head to Head Result > Goal Difference > Goals For > Goals Against > Coin Flip.

All games will be scorinated between 7:00 PM and 11:00 PM PDT. There will be at least one full day between scorinations.

As the Copa Rushmori is an RP-only tournament, RP bonus will be awarded in the value of skill points. Every matchday will have the potential of earning an RPer two points. The max skill points on any given day will be the maximum number of points earned by any user multiplied by 1.5.

There will be a 50% deduction of points at the end of the group stage before any playoff games before the knockout round.

Schedule:

21 September 2012 - Thread opens

The following Visitors' Guide was sent to each and every nation taking part in the Eleventh Copa Rushmori.

Welcome to Falconfar!

We of the Triumvirate Queendom of Falconfar welcome you to our humble country for the eleventh edition of the Copa Rushmori. We hope that your stay here will be comfortable and safe as you chase the goal of being the Copa Rushmori XI Champions. Here is a bit about the country and about the places that you will be staying at.

I. Getting to Falconfar

The first thing that people notice about Falconfar is that it is not actually on the same planet as Rushmore. That is actually true. To get to Falconfar, there are two ways: You can either go to the Eastern Citiz border where the Falconfar-Rushmori Space Bridge is located, and then use the teleporter there to get to Irswabi, Falcon, from where you can take shuttles/teleporters to your respective moons and planets; or, you can allow one of Falconfar's space shuttles to land in your country, whose pilots will make sure that you get to your lodging spaces in no time. All travel is safe, confidential, and offered by the Falconfar Tourism Agency.

II. The Culture

Falconfar is a multiplanetary empire comprising of three planets and four moons. This does mean that there are multiple diverse cultures on the planet, which are divided by race and by location. While you are in Falconfar, your culture will be respected as long as you respect the culture of those around you. That is a guarantee being brought to you by the Falconfar people and the Imperial government. We will go deeper into the different cultures and races of Falconfar later on this Visitor's Guide.

III. The Races

A. Humans

The majority of Falconfar's populace are, in fact, humans, although they tend to live a lot longer than normal humans due to advanced medical technology that exist in the Queendom. The average lifespan for a male in the Queendom is one hundred and forty, while females have an average lifespan of one hundred and sixty years of age. The humans of Falconfar are a simpleminded hardworking folk who are willing to work hard every day to earn each dollar that they spend. They love their country and their Queen. Humans also comprise most of Falconfar's sporting population, at ninety seven percent. Falconfar is indeed a humanoid empire.

B. Halil'Quan

Bird-like beatlings, Halil'Quan have been a part of Falconfar's culture for centuries. They keep mostly to themselves, devoted to their religion and to the art of telepathic communication that they can achieve among themselves. They mostly populate the planet of Falcon, where the Capital of the Queendom, Irswabi, is located. Halil'Quan are not many, but they are important. They play key roles in Falconfar's government and military, mostly as communicators. Although there are not many Halil'Quan in the world of sports, the ones that have been are important. Ju-Iro Tanawasi, the Queendom's first head coach, was a Halil'Quan.

Halil'Quan also live for at least two hundred years, much longer than humans. Their life is a secret yet public one.

C. Xe'Notl

The Xe'Notl, or sapient turtles, were once a peaceful folk living in their planet of Isildar. Then, the Falconfar-Gyron Alliance, as it was called then, found them, and a period of incorporation occurred. Now, they are the third species of the Queendom. Green activists, the Xe'Notl are against anything that harms the planet, and hence, their planet, Isildar, is the most beautiful to visit.

Only about a million Xe'Notl exist in the Queendom due to the fact that each Xe'Notl female can only conceive once. Hence, Xe'Notl children are considered to be invaluable and are treated with utmost care.

The most famous Xe'Notl player in Falconfar is Loria Votmk, who has been around for a very long time.

IV. The Venues

A. North Falcon

The nations of Saugeais, Mashiki, Queer Poco el Mono Ara, and the home team from Falconfar will be playing in North/Central Falcon, the commercial/political headquarters of the Queendom. Comprising of the cities of Vincevol, New Sandoval, Sandrali, Lokka, Rehaven, North/South Irswabi, and Triora, North Falcon is a very busy place.

The first game listed on every match day will be played at the Marlins' Stadium in New Sandoval, a stadium that holds fifty thousand, four hundred and thirty-six people. As New Sandoval is near the equator of this planet, the temperature never drops below seventy degrees, and the forecast during the Copa Rushmori is to be consistently in the nineties with low humidity. As New Sandoval is also by the Mid-Falcon Ocean, we recommend that you try out the fresh seafood there in your time off. New Sandoval is not a city that is good at any sport, but the people there are very kind and spirited.

The second game listed on every match day will be played at the Tide Turntable in Rehaven. A town known for its gridiron prowess with the Rehaven Tide, Rehaven is located about an hour's drive from Irswabi, but it is not considered a suburb because it is the automotive capital of the Queendom. The Turntable is a nice stadium that sits about seventy thousand, and the sunsets from there are known to be phenomenal, ending up in a lot of paintings.

We also recommend visiting the city of Vincevol and its ice hockey heritage, Sandrali with its aircraft industry, Lokka and its arts, Triora and its museums, or perhaps Irswabi itself, the Capital, where, at the Palace of the Diamond Cliffs, Queen Isildil reigns, and where, at the Queen's Dome, the final will be held.

B. South Falcon

The nations of Union Isle, Crolacia, Ancharmun, and Weatherdon will be playing in South/Eastern Falcon, where most of the people live on this planet. Comprised of Jackson, West Kassan, Baralona, Comoso, Victoria City, Cassion, Mara Kora, and Newshanville, South Falcon is scattered with metropolises that house the people that work in North Falcon.

The first game listed in every match day will be held at Flames' Fury in Jackson, which is definitely more of a hockey city. Jackson, though, has the "cool" advantage of being a place that is always cold, making every match an endurance match in almost freezing weather. That is what happens when the city is almost by the south pole. Jackson sausage, though, comprising of elk and other wild game that dot the landscape, is famous throughout the Queendom for its flavor.

The second game listed in every match day will be held at The Sundial in Mara Kora, the Capital of the Halil'Quan. This city is a mystic place, where the Halil'Quan practice their mystic religion that they will not tell the name of to those who are not in the Hail'Quan. The Bulldogs have managed to do well enough in the gaze of the birds, who are actually the majority in this city. Do visit some of the obscure temples and whatnot, but do not disturb them... They can be quite brash and expressive of their indignation.

Other cities can also provide interesting experiences - West Kassan and its ski resorts (some are still open in the summer), Baralona and its representation of national pride, Comoso and its glass, Victoria City and its architecture, Cassion and its clothing, and Newshanville, with its Air Force/Space academy that turns out the finest new pilots and officers year after year.

C. North Isildar

Isildar is the planet of the Xe'Notl, and hence, the most beautiful of all the planets of Falconfar. There are flourishing jungles, fabulous beaches, and snow-capped mountains. It is the planet for nature enthusiasts. However, the Xe'Notl are very particular about their planet, so please be careful to respect the environment while visiting here.

Match 1 - Champions' Circle, Jurion (45, 500) - Jurion is home to the Champions, who are a team that does well some years and not well on some others. The Circle, however, is remarkable because the arena was built out of purely organic materials. This place is an engineering marvel, as is the city itself, the "green city" of Falconfar.

Match 2 - Hydra Nest, Noxion (62,300) - Noxion has the Imperial Conservatory of Animal Sciences, the place to go if you want to study animals. The Hydra Nest is in the middle of this conservatory's campus, and around it is a fabulous zoo that features some rare animals not found in other places. Be sure to look around!

North Isildar has a pretty mild climate.

D. South Isildar

Southern Isildar, for some reason, is a place of extreme weather. There is a desert where the temperature varies from very hot during the day to freezing cold in the evening, and then there is also a tundra that is actually populated. This makes it so that studying camels and penguins in their natural habitat is easy, and adds to the theme of Isildar being the beautiful planet. Visiting cities in South Isildar will be challenging, but beautiful in its own way.

Match 1 - Executioners' Blade, Oprium (63,300) - Oprium is a city that is in the middle of the Great South Isildar Desert. The city does know how to take care of its peoples, so visitors should be safe there. Just follow instructions when a sandstorm is coming, and don't go out at night. The Executioner's Blade, though, has air conditioning in the daytime and heaters at night, so going to games there shouldn't be an issue.

Match 2 - The Mast, Votto Toren (54,233) - Votto Toren sits right by the Great Sea, close to the Southern Continent, the place that never thaws out. It will be cold, and matches are played outside, which will present a challenge. The city is famous for its ice sculptures, so be sure to look at those in your spare time when visiting.

E. Gyron

Gyron - the place where Falconfar's humans began their trip to outer space. You won't find many Halil'Quan or Xe'Notl here, it is a mostly human planet. Densely populated and technologically advanced, this is where most of Falconfar's population is located, and in its peoples lies Falconfar's power.

Match 1 - Crusaders' Crucible, La Pinatra (88,922) - La Pinatra is known as the City of the Crusade as this is where the spaceport is located. The entire city was built around the spaceport and the docking system, so touring the facilities is worth a look. There are flights that leave daily to everywhere throughout the Queendom if you wish to go to different cities around the Empire.

Match 2 - Wurlington Dome, Wurlington (76,300) - Although Wurlington is a basketball-crazed city, with the Dynamos playing there exceptionally well, they would be happy to have you visit them. Wurlington is known as the culinary capital of Falconfar, with its variety of foods that fascinate the senses. There are restaurants that cook virtually anything that is alive, and sometimes, even dead.

F. Iona

Iona is the primary moon of Falcon, and the mining capital of Falconfar. This moon makes over 80% of its income from mining various precious metals and industrial metals from its core. The people are hardworking and perhaps a bit hardheaded, but they love the sport of handball and they love their Defenders and Spiders in football. It may take a while to earn their respect, but once you do, Ionians will be your friends forever.

Match 1 - Iona Spaceport Dome, Iona Spaceport (54,200) - "The place that Irwin Garland-Hart built", Iona Spaceport is home to the Defenders, who won the title multiple times and have become the darling of this little moon of miners. The Dome is special in the fact that it was built to reverberate sound back onto the field, making it even louder than it should be. It does look kind of old, but that was because the Ionians liked the look. The facilities are state of the art.

Match 2 - Junction Station, Iona Junction (62,400) - Although Iona Junction's football team continues to not live up to the standard of the Defenders, the inhabitants of the south moon have hope that they will catch up someday. Iona Junction is the place that actually processes the stones and metals mined at the north side of the moon, making the Junction and the Spaceport business partners, which has led to the friendly rivalry. The stadium may look weird from the outside, for it does look like a perfect cube, giving it the nickname of "The Cube".

G. Darius

Compared to the mining moon of Iona, Darius, the second moon of Falcon, is overlooked at times because it is a primarily farming community. Wheat and corn fields line almost every square mile of this moon, and most of Falconfar's home-grown food is from Darius, making it important, if not recognized enough. Darius makes the best bread, and the best rice, because it all comes from the fields, and not from markets.

Match 1 - Shock Tower, Ytriba (52,200) - Ytriba did matter at one time in Falconfarian football due to Polarian sensation Iosef Niskakangasi. Now, Niskakangasi is in Vititi, on Isildar, and the Shock have fallen from prominence again. However, the Shock Tower is a place to visit because the field is not at ground level. In fact, there are five floors of businesses and concessions before the field on the sixth floor, with seating that continues all the way up to the fifteenth floor, giving it its name of a tower.

Match 2 - Red Square, New Irswabi (50,200) - New Irswabi, a tribute to Irswabi, the capital, was named so to celebrate the union of the three planets and the four moons. Red Square is a false name of this stadium, for it actually looks more like a pyramid. Built on the Yellowbrick River, the primary river of this moon, and the river that feeds so many of its fields, the Red Square's open feel with its many glass windows gives it spectacular views of the riverbank, especially at sunset. A very picturesque place.

Darius may be the food capital, but there is more to this moon than just that.

H. Teranoa

Teranoa orbits Gyron, the planet of the humans; due to its lack of gravity (0.75 Earth Gravity) and sometimes harsh weather, it is where the Falconfar Imperial Military Academy is located. Do not worry, all matches will be played on Earth Gravity, caused by our gravity machines, but if you do choose to go outside the city, you will feel lighter. All other planets are around Earth Gravity, making Teranoa unique.

That being said, please do not go into any military installations, unless you are part of a tour. We do not wish you to get in trouble with the authorities. That would not be wise, and would cause complications between the governments of the Queendom and your nation. Thank you.

Match 1 - Samurai Blade, Polti City (52,100) - Polti City is where the Imperial Marines are trained, making it a very hard-nosed city. They are no-nonsense folk, and visitors may not find much cheer, except during the football matches, where even the most wound up marine will have some fun and enjoy a good game. We apologize if this city can seem a bit boring at times, but it is an important part of Falconfar.

Match 2 - Crew Center, Maxville (61,000) - Maxville is the city where the Falconfar First Space Fleet calls home. This is the primary defense base for Falconfar, making it an impressive place to check out. About a third of the city is closed to civilians, which includes visitors, but it may be possible to schedule tours to visit some of the installations. The Crew Center isn't a flashy stadium, but the aircraft and spacecraft around it makes up for its lack of presence.

I. Misari

If you thought Isildar and its love of nature was bad enough, Misari is even worse. A moon that is a tropical jungle, it is a Xe'Notl paradise, and very sparsely populated. The biggest city on this moon holds two hundred thousand people... Do bring sunscreen and bug repellent, and be prepared to deal with muggy weather. It can get sticky most times of the year due to the humidity and the sun.

Match 1 - Eagle's Nest, Eturu (43,211) - Eturu is a smallish city at the center of this moon, called the "City of Trees". The Xe'Notl allow a quota of trees to be cut down every year, and those trees are sold for ridiculous prices because they are some of the most beautiful trees in the world to make furniture. Enjoy the shade, but be prepared to fight mosquitoes - Eturu is known for them. The Eagle's Nest is built like a circle, with a retractable roof due to the tropical rain showers that do occur from time to time. There are birds of magnificent colors that fly in from time to time when the roof is open, which may distract viewers from the game, but it is a beautiful place to play when there isn't much rain and the mosquitoes are away.

Match 2 - Qarin Te Memorial Stadium, Qarin Te (62,300) - Qarin Te was a Xe'Notl who made the moon of Misari a preserve of the tropical animal life that reside on the moon. The city is named after him. Qarin Te is the biggest city on Misari, with a population of about two hundred thousand. The city is very compact, as the Xe'Notl didn't want much of the wildlife to be disturbed.

Though the city can seem a bit squished at times, it makes up for it by the various fauna and flora that are around, living with the people. You will see iguanas crossing the street, chameleons on trees, and other various animals that usually stay in the wild. The Memorial Stadium is no exception, although one thing may bug foreign players: If an animal of any kind gets on the field, it must be transported out by personnel before that match can resume. That is just an accepted part of life for Falconfarian players, but it may tick off some foreigners.

Please keep in mind - nature matters in Misari!

Additional info to be given before the cutoff of each matchday!

The Big Three is no more, after former Captain Zach Preston was removed from the starting line up due to a very poor performance at the Copa Rushmori, where he failed to even score a single goal. Preston has been relegated to the bench. Captain Tor Tong Lee, Luca Cormio, and Gene Turko are what some are calling the "Little Three", but Lee doesn't like that. "I'm the best player in the whole nation, and Cormio and Turko are very good. We're not the Big Three anymore, we're THE THREE." Joining "THE THREE" in the midfield will be Jake Gibbons and Dan Lipari.

FANCHNOPOLIS FOOTBALL TEAM

The FFF (Fanchnopolis Football Federation in its shortest version, which is also known by other names which add more F’s to the acronym) announced the players who are composing the National Team to play in international competitions. The “Militants”, as the team is called by the supporters, hope to make a good start in the worldwide scene, at the same time promoting their culture and honouring their nation.

Goalkeepers:

1- Bwerozza DIVARA
Team: Rua Augusta
She is not the captain, not the team top goalscorer or best player of the squad. But Divara is the true symbol of the squad, the person who can unite all the members of the team, regardless of personal rivalries. Her opponents who don’t know her usually underestimate her potential, as she is very thin, although the tallest of the squad. But she is a fast goalkeeper, able to quickly stop an opponent or to reach a difficult ball. However, her main flaw is when passing the ball, or in goal kicks, the reason why Cremezi takes them. She is also a lover of art, and is prone to spending the whole night in some nearby bar drinking and discussing art in general, which harms her training performance. Divara is the player who appears when the team is close to a nervous breakdown, or if a fight between two members of the team erupts. Her wise advices improve the quality of the squad.

22- LANA Santiago
Team: Solo Sagrado
The substitute goalkeeper knows that it’ll be very difficult to play a match for Fanchnopolis, since Divara is an absolute starter, and not one to get injured easily. Lana won this place in the squad due to being good friends with team captain Frots and the other members of the squad who play for Rua Augusta, a team which she has played for and even tried to return, but Solo Sagrado didn’t let their best player go. Lana is a very calm player, who judges well the situation to know how to act. This calmness helps her to play under pressure or in difficult moments, and also makes her a likeable person.

23- July QUELTK
Team: Atlética Capital
The third goalkeeper of the squad is part of the good defensive system of Atlética Capital, a team which is only able to challenge for the title thanks to this defensive line. Queltk is the shortest goalkeeper of the Fanchnopolis squad, but with excellent positioning. Is also a funny person, and is surely one to make the players laugh during their free time. However, she is close to only a few of the other members of the team.

Right-backs:

4- Diana BALOTO
Team: Bofetadas
Baloto is the fastest full-back of Fanchnopolis. An enthusiastic player, she is always full of energy and surely won’t give less than her best during a match. Good in long ranged passes, she is one who can create goalscoring chances directly from the defence. Also, is a very impulsive player, who can attempt some risky moves. Due to this tendency of acting without thinking, some players may blame her for mistakes, but she ignores these complaints. Outside the playing field, Baloto has an active participation in the social movements of Fanchnopolis, which receive extreme importance in the country, with focus on the environmental and students’ movements.

12- Jane PALSPAR
Team: Atlética Capital
Palspar shares some similarities with Baloto, her competition at the same position. She is fast and full of energy, but is far less daring than Diana. However, this ends pleasing the fans less, since for being more conservative Palspar ends having a quiet role during a match, not participating in vital moves. But the true talent of Jane resides on her speech: she is often selected to answer questions during an interview, since she is excellent at talking a lot and giving little information, or completely avoiding the point of the question and saying an entire different story.

Left-backs:

11- Ariana NRATZEL
Team: Rua Augusta
The more technical full-back, and we can even consider her to be the most technical player of the entire squad, something that makes her more than an acceptable option for the midfield if needed, in case of a formation change. She is excellent at controlling the ball possession, but is not one to run during the entire match, due to the fact that her physical condition isn’t one of the best, she’s had many injuries during her career. However, even moving less than other players, her participation in the match is key, as she knows how to set up a move, and can also take free kicks and corner kicks with accuracy. Also, she also has a lot of knowledge of the history of Fanchnopolis and of the National Team, so can answer questions about them.

15- YARA Tessera
Team: Uni-Ribs
Yara is another very participative player, taking part in the social movements that made Fanchnopolis the country it is today. Focusing on the questions involving minorities and also the feminist movement, the biggest of the nation, she is a much respected person. As a player, she is a quick player, but not one much accurate in starting offensive moves: her talent is defensive, so she can be an option when the team needs to defend more.

Central defenders:

3- Xena RENITT
Team: Rua Augusta
The most ferocious defender of the squad, one that surely won’t give rest for the opponent strikers. Renitt is able to tackle the strongest opponents, being a specialist in defeating them in a ball dispute, and having more difficulties in facing more technical attackers. However, she never rests, so a player always have to take a look to see if she is close, as she can out of nothing appear with fury and get the ball back. However, in her daily life she is very gentle, having a busy social life and handling several relationships at the same time, a thing she is famous for.

6- Mile CREMEZI
Team: Atlética Capital
She has more technique than Renitt, and is not as strong... but if you think that Cremezi has a different playing style you’re very wrong. She is also a defender who follows the opponent she has to mark practically everywhere, going home with the player if she forgets that the match has ended... yes, because this can happen. Cremezi sometimes make weird attitudes, but still has the support from most of the squad, and therefore kept her place at the starting eleven. Is also another enthusiastic player, and one who easily accepts ideas for set pieces and strange offensive moves, since she takes all the goal kicks and free kicks on the defensive half. Another player who also has link with social movements.

14- Ceres GANIS
Team: 16 de Junho
The substitute defender is another one who is excellent at marking opponent players and following them to ensure that they won’t receive the ball in good conditions. It seems that Fanchnopolis excels at producing this kind of players. However, Ganis also has enough talent to, after tackling an attacker, starting an offensive move with good passing ability. Also, is the best at heading between the defenders. She isn’t a starter due to physical problems.

20- STELLA Provo
Team: Bueiros do Centro
Stella is a player who ends being isolated from other members of the squad, as she doesn’t participate in an activist group, which is usually a source of prestige for Fanchnopolis citizens. However, she is well known in the country and respected as a football player, even though her lack of involvement in political matters produced prejudice, and she wasn’t able to join one of the title contenders, even having talent to play for them.

Defensive midfielders:

10- Chris FROTS
Team: Rua Augusta
The team captain, and the coach of the National Team. As coach, she doesn’t have absolute powers: some members of the team, such as Nretzel, Divara and Danizinha, have enough popularity to oppose to decisions of Frots regarding call-ups and tactics used. But the position of coach makes Frots the most influential player of the squad, being called “boss” by her team-mates. As the team captain, however, Frots do everything that pleases her, from complaining with referees to fighting with opponent players. About her playing abilities, she works as the mastermind of the team, controlling the ball and then distributing it to other midfielders or to the attack, so they can reach the opponent area to score. Due to this, she is a champion of assists, but not goals. At last, as a matter of curiosity, she always plays with a hat, even in the matches that the Fanchnopolis team will play naked.

16- Emma ELITA
Team: 16 de Junho
A vital substitute, being the first player to enter the match when there is a need for a defensive change in the Fanchnopolis team, by taking the place of one of the offensive midfielders. She has always been a talented player, good in defensive duties as well as in heading, which makes her a deadly option for the attack during corner kicks and crossings, winning prizes. But her space in the media only grew after she became the girlfriend of National Team idol Divara, the starting goalkeeper of the squad. Her positive thinking and determination during a football match makes her one of the players with the most potential to become one of the new idols of the team.

18- TINA Pacheco
Team: Caribe
Another player which doesn’t have a close relationship with the core group of the squad, composed by the team captain and her followers, Tina is however respected for being member of activist groups. Another interesting fact is her loyalty to her domestic club, Caribe, a team that is only an intermediate one in the top division of Fanchnopolis. She vows to defend the club until the end of her life, by acting as a director when she stops playing. As a defensive midfielder, she is the most defensive of the three.

Offensive midfielders:

5- Karine MARINO
Team: Império Vazio
Marino is the fan favourite for those interested in the looks of the players. Humble and talkative, she quickly attracts the attention of the people, but she is also as fast in ignoring any approaches and all the pressure of the media, preferring to keep her privacy and to spend her free time with activities not related with the fans or her professional life. As a football player, Marino is the true link from the midfield to the attack, usually receiving the ball from Frots and then sending it to one of the wingers or to the striker Lynn. She is horrible at finishing, so she focuses more on passing and in dribbling, the latter her main talent, so she is able to defeat opponent defenders before setting up goalscoring chances for the strikers.

8- SANDRA Hondroza
Team: Império Vazio
The true offensive midfielder of the team, who sometimes attempts to score through individual moves, preferring to dribble even though the wingers may be in a better position to attack. This sometimes selfish approach doesn’t take fans from her, however, since the supporters relate this with determination, but the relationship with her team-mates isn’t the best possible. She makes an excellent duo with Marino, and working together they can send Fanchnopolis forward. Sandra is also prone to get involved in arguments and fights which can make her receive several cards, even though she isn’t a violent player at all.

17- Ellen NUSTRON
Team: Uni-Ribs
Nustron is starter in her club, which is considered the best of the entire country, but unfortunately for her the chances of starting a match for the National Team are minimal, since the team prefers to use Elita as first choice substitute. But this doesn’t mean that Nustron has less talent: she is the best player of the team in long ranged shots, and can also take free kicks if needed... may earn many chances during the second half of matches.

Strikers:

2- DANIZINHA Trevi
Team: Império Vazio
The versatile winger. Queen of scoring weird goals, this happens because Danizinha is able to find opportunities to score when others don’t. Attacking in the right wing, her origins as a full-back made her prefer to wear the number 2 shirt, which is now considered strange by the supporters since it is a number usually used by defenders, while Danizinha is one of the most offensive players of the team. Danizinha is not very good at dribbling, which makes her a bad option for moves when the opponents are marking too heavily. However, she is quite strong and, being tall, will win most aerial challenges. Also, she is fast and also very resistant, and can be violent when provoked. A curious data about her is that her origins are unknown: she doesn’t talk about her parents or her infancy, but no one is sure why. Mysterious, she sometimes has a pessimist approach to situations and gets serious easily.

7- Katherine LYNN
Team: Uni-Ribs
The lone striker. In the formation used by Fanchnopolis, Danizinha and Vlasevic play as wingers, so Lynn ends with the position of being the main target for passes in the attack, and the one receiving the most pressure to score. She is less versatile than Danizinha, and doesn’t have as much creativity to score, but is much more competent with the ball on feet, capable of dribbling and without the unstable attitude towards the game of her team-mate: she is fully focused and lethal in front of the goal. There is some argument about which is the best player of the National Team, but surely Lynn will appear in all the discussions. Her main talent is also the ability to stay with the ball even swarmed by opponents or making difficult dribbling moves. As for her personal characteristics, she has a floating humour, which doesn’t affect her performances but affects relationships, and she has gotten in fights with several other members of the club. She is respected for her ideas and abilities, however, and due to this keeps the absolute starting position.

9- Izzy VLASEVIC
Team: Uni-Ribs
The quality attacker. Vlasevic ends receiving less popularity than the other two strikers of the squad when the idea is to rate talent, since she ends receiving more popularity and media exposure when the idea is to follow the relationships of the players and their social lives. However, you can’t think that she is a weak player. She has more finesse than the other strikers, being able to spot good passing chances and give the ball on the feet of her team-mates. Calmer than the other strikers, who often get involved in arguments and unstable humour, she is the best option to receive the ball in tense moments, when the team doesn’t seem to be working well together.

13- Pomba BREVIS
Team: Armada Ribeirão
A much respected member of the National Team, who can work either as a winger, preferably on the left, or as the target striker in Fanchnopolis’ specific formation. Brevis has a balanced talent in all the basic necessities of football, from dribbling to shooting, and so is a very good option when you don’t know the exact way of playing that can defeat the opposite squad. The problem is that the attacking trio of Fanchnopolis is much respected, so she won’t receive that many chances. Finally, during free times, Brevis is known for drinking too much and losing control of herself, talking too much and making jokes about anything.

21- Amanda TAMARINDO
Team: Bofetadas
The fifth attacker of the squad, it’ll be much difficult for her to feature with the Fanchnopolis shirt, or without the Fanchnopolis shirt but during a game, during an official competition without a tragedy involving injuries. Too bad for her, because Tamarindo is a lovely person and a talented player, who is good enough to take advantage of mistakes of defenders to score. She loves to tackle defenders.

Formation: Fanchnopolis plays with a 4-1-2-2-1 formation, with defensive full-backs and two wingers who are part of the attacking line. Below you see the representation of the formation:

Image

Kits: Now there is an important detail of Fanchnopolis’ team. The team has kits, which you can see below (first two alternate themselves as first option, third one is the third kit option always). However, this doesn’t mean that the players will wear them. The reason why: Fanchnopolis is a very hot country, and also the players don’t mind about the reaction of others, they usually play naked. In domestic matches this is common, but in order to respect opponents, they may wear these kits in away matches, or in neutral sites. However, if the opponents agree, then the Fanchnopolis team will play naked, as the players prefer this way. If not, they use the kits without loss in performance or morale. In cold places, with temperatures below 15ºC, they’ll wear the kits even if the opponents permit that they play naked, as they aren’t used to cold temperatures and have to wear some clothes. In matches in Fanchnopolis, no clothes for them, as the temperature won’t reach lower levels.

Team Modifier
This Weatherdon team plays with a +1 style, using the 4-3-1-2, where the attacking midfielder will rush to support the strikers, and will be tasked with creating most of the opportunities. Alain Egenson is not particularly known for beautiful finishes or golazos like Ridenour is, but rather for setting up the opportunities. The defense will not be placed in a heavy attacking role, and will mostly play in the back third.

WESTERN CUBAN NATIONAL SOCCER TEAM
World Cup 61

Image

Things were looking bright for the national soccer team after a respective second in there group in World Cup qualifying. Things went downhill ever since though after losing in the play-in round, not getting invited to the Cup of Harmony, and losing four straight in international friendlies.

Now Anatoly Markin is facing a critical tournament in the Copa Rushmori, the first tournament where he found major success. After seeming to have gone off the hot seat after the World Cup, Markin finds himself right back in it.

Information:
Rank: 63
Formation: 4-3-3
Style Modifier: +3

Coaching Staff:

Manager: Anatoly Markin: The seat seemed to have been extinguished, but not its hotter than ever. The lose to Backyard Sports was probably one of the most humiliating in Western Cuban history. Now Markin must lead his team to a solid finish in this Copa Rushmori. If it finds the same results as he did in the last Copa, he might find himself without a job.

Assistant Manager: Agustin Sanora: Esteban Reyes finally left, and he got himself a great job with the Cyborg Holland national soccer team. Who is actually ranked higher than Western Cuba, one spot higher. It was rumored that Markin tried to find an international assistant before the Copa Rushmori, but was unable to find one. Sanora is leaving his club, Athletico Trinidad, who finished fourth in the BPL last season. Depending on how Western Cuba finishes, Sanora may find himself with a job after the Copa Rushmori, or may be looking for another one.

Starting 11:

#1, Goalkeeper, Armando Santos: Santos played outstanding in the last World Cup, and looks like a great addition in the back for Western Cuba. Santos left Real Cardenas to sign with Energia-Yaderny Miago, which is quite a mouthful. The club is from Mytannion, who has a good history in the World Cup. We only expect Santos to prosper in Mytannion.

#5, Fullback, Shin Denisov: Him and Sanchez better watch it. They continue to be the weakest link for Western Cuba and the left side of the defense is the most vulnerable spot for Western Cuba. While his behavior has improved, his play hasn't much. He needs to improve if he wants to keep his job, in fact, it's a surprise he is still on the national team.
T
#8, Center back, Esteban Sanchez: After having a good Copa Rushmori last time around, Sanchez along with Shin struggled in the World Cup. Sanchez better hope along with Shin that he has a good world cup. Hoping the new assistant coach, who mainly focuses on defense will help the two.

#3, Center back, Gabriel Ruiz: We knew it was going to happen, and it happened. Ruiz is now the captain of this defense, while Martinez did not have any ankle problems last world cup, Ruiz clearly outplayed him. Recently Ruiz has signed with Teva FC, who he hopes to go into an even better player.

#11, Fullback, Maximino Martinez: The ankle problems went away for now, but Martinez is showing that is starting to get old. This may be his last time on the starting roster for the national team.

#22, Center Midfielder, Alberto Perez I'm still confused on how Perez is getting better but isn't signed with a club? Does he like live in the national training facility, knowing Perez I wouldn't be surprised.

#18, Central Midfielder, Goyo Soto Soto had a solid World Cup performance, but it wasn't anything great. At least he is better off than his uncle. While a good player, Soto is currently the weakest link in the midfield, and will need to step up this Copa.

#10, Central Midfielder, Vincent De Santa De Santa showed great promise last World Cup, and that gave interest to several clubs in Eastfield Lodge, who have shown great interest in him. And De Santa is certainly interested back after his season with Unido Ica, who clearly isn't that great of a team. But still, De Santa is a great addition to this national soccer team.

#19, Winger, Ricardo Calderón Somehow Ricardo is the weakest player in the front, which features Moreno and Mendoza. But that in now way means he is bad. Ricardo had a solid campaign last World Cup, and only looks to grow even more. Just recently Ricardo has signed with the Dwile Warriors, of Apox, a country that Western Cuba faced last group stage.

#11, Center Forward, Edgardo Mendoza Mendoza was so close to his goal last world cup, it's a shame we didn't qualify. But he has another chance. But is the end getting near? Mendoza may have to qualify this world cup, if so the gate may begin to close.

#21, Winger, Tito Moreno While not the golden boy yet, Moreno may soon pass Mendoza. Moreno had an outstanding season with Pay de Croix, being the top scorer in the league and leading Pay de Croix to the regular season title. Moreno has a bright future ahead of him.

The Maudraiska Mirror

Sports minister threatens football body improve form or face axe
by Ruadhrí Mac Suibhne

Thanks it to it's sources within the Cumann Sacair an Tearmann the Mirror can exclusively reveal that football's governing body within Ancharmunn could be facing a do or die tournament in the upcoming Copa Rushmori.

The CST has recently faced calls to answer for itself following what many have seen as it's ignominious guardianship of Charmunnry football in recent times. The qualification campaign for World Cup 61 is in particular seen to have been an embarrassment with manager Tiarnán Ó Beolláin having refused to officially name his squads to the World Cup Committee. Opposing team also had complaints at what they perceived as a lack of desire for the CST to accommodate them during away matches in Ancharmunn. It is thought that opponents such as Queer Poco el Mono Ara and Jeru FC were refused help with remaining accommodation and training arrangements during their trips.

Such was the state of the CST's behaviour over the course of the campaign that a parliamentary investigation into the matter was conducted. Minister for Sports Donagh Fitzpatrick meanwhile is understood to have conducted his own departmental investigation in the CST and is thought to have recommended a raft of changes.

Aides close to Fitzpatrick have hinted that the minister would prefer to replace the CST with an entirely new governing body for football. Staff at the CST meanwhile have reported that the organisation has been given a chance to prove itself over the course of the Copa Rushmori.

Fitzpatrick has been reluctant to make any explicit statement on the matter. When quizzed by the Mirror he would only say, “It was deemed nessacery to conduct an investigation in the suitability of the CST for the role in which it is appointed. That investigation has now been conducted and a number of recomdations made to that organisation and for football in this country going forward. We are currently studying those to decide which the best direction for Charmunnry football is.”

He also added, “For many in the international community our national football team is a sort of figurehead figure of our nation, so it is vital that it and the organisation around it is seen to conduct itself in the correct manner.”

With the majority of it's senior figures currently en route to Falconfar for the Copa Rushmori's draw no one from the CST was available for comment at the time of going to press.
I'm not on the Greenwich Meridian so my time is a few seconds behind. Bear that in mind.

Team Overview

Coming to the Copa Rushmori XI fresh with the best World Cup qualifying start in history and reaching a historical playoff stages in the World Cup qualifying, the Lions put one step forward into the Copa Rushmori with the hope of getting into the semi-finals this time round as they missed out right in front of their big front door a cycle ago. With things set back on track and Muain Newtons on the hotseat right now,the Lions completed their previous cycle with a Cup Of Harmony invitation. However things went downhill after their CoH venture as they lost five matches straight as they played in the GSM Cup Of Goodwill. With pressure and tension rising, this seemed to be Muain's worst comeback ever and so with a Copa Rushmori to prove his worth lest losing his seat in World Cup 62.

Mashiki Copa Rushmori - Take II

After a rather miserable Copa Rushmori last time out, the Mashiki national team are out to try again (with new and improved kits! :D). The World Cup campaign had gone pretty well, and a KPB ranking of 130 after 1 round of qualifying definitely won't go unnoticed. So here follows the Mashiki Roster for 11th edition of Rushmori's top competition:

Name - Age
Goalkeepers:
Dimitor Vashalka - 19
Finsha - 27
Barboo Wilmak - 17

Defenders:
Bashka Wimpal-Mateng - 24
Darmaka Papanda - 21

And now for a group analysis:

Saugeais: We've only played them once previously, and that was in the Copa Rushmori last time out in the Group Stages, where we lost out to them 2-0, but we will still see this time if we can get our revenge...
QPeMA: Again another nation in the same group as us last time around, meaning that 3 teams that were in the same group last year are in the same group this year! Anyway, last time out we beat QPeMA 2-1, and hopefully we can get the same or an even better result this time around...
Falconfar: This should be difficult, as Falconfar are the hosts, and probably one of the favourites for the trophy. However, in the last contest, they got a similar result to us, with a total of 3 points and finishing 3rd in their group.

Overall, I believe we have been placed in the group of death, as we have two top 30 teams in the KPB rankings, as well as the hosts. And then there is us... Yeah... So here is the fixture list for the matches in the group stages, and all of the games will be played in the area of North Falcon:

Matchday 1: QPeMA (Upcoming Match)
Matchday 2: Saugeais
Matchday 3: Falconfar

Consider this something of a preamble.....

A day of mourning.

It was only supposed to be a day. Devastated by the passing of his father, his Royal Highness King Ahmed Mubarak Bakhiri, the would-be monarch Mohammed Hasan Bakhiri had inadvertently imposed an absolute introversion on the country from all forms of external communication.

His father had been a good King. Fair, just, loyal. The kind described in fairytales and he had ruled for well over half a century. His children, Mohammed Hasan, Ahmed Omar and Shazia Fehmina had been left devastated and so had the populace. The entire country was crushed by his passing….

This devastation coupled with the extended period of mourning had led to extreme apathy, including the fabled fanatical football following in the country. Everything came to a complete stop. The big derbies of the Una Serie, the David and Goliath clashes of the Trofeo Royal and even the grassroots Sunday league games.

Because everything had come to a grinding halt, Queer Poco el Mono Ara’s national football team had disbanded. There were no professional players at the moment, there were no amateur players to take their place, there was nothing, not even scientifically engineering footballing monkeys to pick up the slack and trot out for the country.

-----

“Ladies and gentlemen, the hosts of the eleventh Copa Rushmori will be Falconfar.”

The stream of the host announcement paused to buffer. Karim’s internet connection had been fairly lousy lately. Since coming home from Qazox he’d taken some time out to relax, recharge his weary batteries, it’d been three gruelling World Cup campaigns with mixed success. He’d heard rumours he was set to be inducted into the World Cup Hall of Fame for his services to Qazian football. But now he was fully rested and was desperate for some action. There were currently no vacancies in Queer Poco, what with the football league hiatus thing and he’d managed abroad before and didn’t fancy it (Cotdelapoms had been a smidge chilly). Besides which he was happy back in Queer Poco and couldn’t consider uprooting his family again.

“Dad?”

“Yes?” he looked up from the computer screen.

“What are The Whites going to do about the Copa?” His daughter, Isabella had grown up to be quite the football fan, following her dad during his playing and managerial career.

“Well, we don’t have a team. So it looks like we’re going to have to give this one a miss.”

“You should put one together. Call your friends up.”

Karim laughed gently, expelling air from his nostrils and allowing the corners of his mouth to curl into a smile. It wasn’t the worst idea though and as the video on his screen finished buffering he could see the delegates of the other Rushmori football associations who had all travelled to hear the announcement of the winning host bid. There was no Pocoan delegate amongst the faces of those present and a slight pang of disappointment filled his chest. Queer Poco el Mono Ara had been an international football fixture for years. They had been involved in 15 World Cup qualifying campaigns, 10 Copa Rushmoris and countless other obscure but equally important international competitions. It seemed such a disheartening way for Queer Poco el Mono Ara to bow out of international football, for Christ sake, the World Cup had actually been played on Pocoan soil, the nation had invited all of Rushmore to play in the third edition of the regional competition, the Cup of Harmony and Baptism of Fire and even a Di Bradini Cup had taken place here. This was a footballing country and Karim Zaki wasn’t about to let that history just snuff out.

He fumbled in his pocket for his mobile phone. They were quite tight pockets and took some faffing to slide his phone free. Opening up his contacts list he didn’t know where to start, all his football friends were pretty old… Past retirement age and probably hadn’t even played casually for a while.

Well, one or two may have. And that’s where he started.

Roster to be released shortly.
Hosts of one World Cup
A Mike Sarzo Memorial Trophy and the 16th Di Bradini Championship to name but all of our accomplishments

Copa Rushmori groups released; Weatherdon set to faceoff against Union Isle
Author: TheFootyBoss Time: 9:10 AM, Day 267

Here we go! You lads ready? Today, the group schedules were released, and I seem to be interested in watching one game in particular. Day 270 features Ancharmunn, a team that Weatherdon last played in a boring yet exciting, average yet stunning 1-0 victory. Don't remember that one? I'm sure Austin Nelson's face does, seeing as he took a shot to the face, bled all over the goal line, and then missed the next match for concussion testing. The match was a close one, with neither team budging on the score line. McKenzie drilled home the winner off of a rebound from a great save, that came from an asston of short passing, defensive maneuvering, and me swearing at my TV.

(sidenote: I feel bad for the girl who I get married too)

(sidenote 2: I really like parenthetical sidenotes >_>)

Anyways, looks like it will be an interesting tournament! Five or six points, depending on what the other teams in the group do, should lead to qualification!

Day 268: Union Isle vs Weatherdon
Day 270: Weatherdon vs Ancharmunn
Day 272: Crolacia vs Weatherdon
Day 273: Playoff Play-In (pending qualification)
Runner Up - Copa Rushmori IX, XI

Manager - Gunutz Yaregi
61 year-old Gunutz Yaregi was the grand architect of Echegoyan FC's meteoric rise from the second tier to First Division champions; a wily old fox with a winning personality, he'll do anything to secure the three points. He has made radical changes to Powell Pieran's Astograth, and his preferred 4-2-3-1 has proven controversial among both the fans and the players, with the usage of only one striker being heavily criticised when there are many who could take up that space. So, instead of taking one reserve player per position, as is customary, Yaregi has left out a centre-back and a DM to pick a whopping four forwards, figuring the rest can sort of swap around while the others fight tooth-and-nail for a place up front. Whether the distribution is more effective or not is up for discussion, but what isn't is the results - Astograth did not just advance from the group stage for the first time at World Cup 61, but reached the semifinals and lost to the eventual champions Valanora, earning a historic fourth place. Many retired from international football then and there, and now Yaregi's task is to see what he can do with a team that looks forwards more than backwards.

Starting XI:

#1 - GK - Cheru Larretape (C) - Age 33 - Royal Rumiatzi – 77 caps, 96 goals against, 28 clean sheets
This Copa Rushmori will be the swan song of a keeper who has long since emerged from the shadow of Zernin Aira and proven he can perform at the very highest level. Long-time captain of Royal Rumiatzi, Larretape has been handed the armband ahead of this tournament, and upon its conclusion will become the last player to have been part of Astograth's first squad to retire from international football.

#5 - LB - Urtzi Galard - Age 30 - Royal Rumiatzi – 103 caps, 4 goals
The tenth most-capped Astograthian player, Galard is a veteran of Olibondeka's four successful World Cup qualifying runs and their sole Cup of Harmony win; he doesn't show signs of slowing down, his quick, offensive runs down the wing still a constant threat. Tireless for the full ninety and an expert crosser, he can seamlessly swap positions with the left winger, and can indeed be used in that position if required.

#4 - CB - Yokin Arizmande - Age 22 – Urbizania Wanderers - 31 caps, 2 goals
A product of the Royal Vosaroni Antenelli youth academy; Arizmande moved to Erathore at an early age and was first-team for several years at Niccostrato, in keeping with the Erathi custom of teenaged players. Having returned to his homeland, he has solidified himself as one of the leading centre-backs in the First Division and the national team, though taking over from Raynor City United's Ubelteso Adin will be no easy task.

#3 - CB – Abdoulaye Bocandé - Age 27 – Echegoyan FC – 69 caps, 5 goals
Although fully Zenegalese, Bocandé has been naturalised by Astograth after his standout performances in the First Division, originally joining from the Tamarindo league. A crucial part of Echegoyan FC's rise to the top and eventual championship run, he is a blood-and-guts defender with no fear of crunching tackles or studs to the face. His drive to excel sets him apart, and despite playing for his adopted nation still enjoys humongous popularity in his homeland of Zenega.

#17 - RB - Raitin Eneriz - Age 24 - Ituraitz Victory - 7 caps, 1 goal
A fast and versatile right-back, Victory can blame Eneriz for single-handedly keeping them around the mid-table and not the relegation zone. His defending is top-notch if rash, but he truly shines when taking the ball forward, either dribbling with the long pass. Not terribly experienced in the national team or in international club football, but that will come with time and the Copa Rushmori is the perfect testing ground.

#15 - DM – Ikatz Alberro - Age 26 - Ituraitz FC – 42 caps, 6 goals
Alberro has quickly situated himself as the current best Astograthian player in a position with a long tradition in the nation, with or without the support of partners such as Ituraitz's Lester Sutton or the national team's Galeano. He is adept at finding space in thick midfields, whether to stick a pass in or muscle his way through, and in the proud heritage of Edorta Urrustoy he is no stranger to rough tackles.

#6 - DM – Galeano - Age 27 - Royal Rumiatzi – 31 caps, 1 goal
Galeano joins Abdoulaye Bocandé as the other naturalised player of the squad; the Tamarindian-born midfielder laboured long and hard at The Army Club before earning a call-up to Copa Rushmori IX and a transfer to cross-town giants Royal Rumiatzi. His small frame can be a problem when confronted with more physical opponents, but he has the vision to wreak havoc if Alberro gives him the space he needs. The partnership proved fruitful throughout World Cup 61, though Galeano is often the first to go when Yaregi decides to alter the formation.

#7 - LM – Lekubegi Guerrikaechebarria - Age 26 – Astograth University – 39 caps, 7 goals
Guerrikaechebarria burst onto the domestic scene with blinding performances at Athletic Club Yungoitio, and has since led Astograth University to their first title and broken into Olibondeka's starting eleven.. He is fast and lively, an important threat down the left wing and increasingly versatile. His eagerness can sometimes be a bit excessive, not thinking things through and dipping in form when setbacks arise, but he is arguably Astograth's most exciting player of these times.

#8 - AM - Aintza Lekea - Age 27 - Image Jan Mayen Islanders – 49 caps, 8 goals
Signed at a remarkably young age by the renowned FC Mildrid of Erathore and then transferred to the equally massive Juvillian Martinax, where he quickly became one of the top-rated players in the Seria-A; after that collapsed, he's found his place in the northern Jan Mayen. Selfish with the ball and a shameless diver, but his tricks and free kicks are brilliant. Though his attitude is rejected by the fans, Yaregi has a strong liking for Lekea and has handed him the revered #8 shirt worn by the Astograthian playmaker, taking over from Otz Lasuen.

#14 - RM - Iban Bachiondo - Age 27 - Echegoyan FC – 16 caps, 3 goals
Bachiondo's had a rough relationship with Yaregi, but it can't be denied the man loves himself some Echegoyan FC, even being named captain by Yaregi despite their frequent rows on the pitch. The reason being Bachiondo doesn't like to follow orders or rely on his teammates, his individualism putting strain on the team as often as it pays off majestically. Bad attitude, great footballer; he'd make an excellent duo with Lekea if either of them were into that sort of thing. The shadow of Itzeder Unzueta hangs high above his head, but Bachiondo isn't lacking in confidence to sweep it away.

#9 - CF - Hurko Atristain - Age 29 - Image Red Star Severny – 51 caps, 30 goals
It feels very strange to see someone other than Soter Sarlange wearing the #9 shirt, but it's finally happened. Big target man Atristain has responded everywhere he's played and racked up an impressive goal count that has him third in the rankings with a better ratio than either Sarlange or Ormache; given more playing time one can only imagine what's left in him.

Substitutes:

#13 - GK - Aztore Irungarai - Age 32 - Image Ousevale Borough – 24 caps, 28 goals against, 5 clean sheets
A top keeper that is eternally frustrated by Larretape and has performed admirably in the matches he's started with Olibondeka, which have not been few either. A renowned penalty-saver, he is expected to start in Astograth's next World Cup campaign after Larretape's decision to leave the national team after this Copa Rushmori.

#23 - GK – Argider Gorriaran - Age 27 - Blue Mountain Range – Uncapped
Not a household name by any means, but Gorriaran has nonetheless earned himself a reputation within the domestic league for his clean sheets, which aren't entirely due to BMR's traditionally talented defense. Younger than the other keepers, he might have a future in the team and is along for the ride until that time comes.

#12 - LB - Burni Beyaitz - Age 27 - Astograth University - Uncapped
A once highly unlikely call-up, Beyaitz has earned his place on the squad after University's title-winning campaign ended in a record amount of goals conceded, their defense possibly the best the Astograthian game has ever seen. Proud and ferocious, Beyaitz is expected to bring his excellent club form to the international level.

#2 - CB – Edorta Garro - Age 25 – Ituraitz FC - Uncapped
Garro's call-up has been a long time coming, ever since he revealed himself as the leading man in Ituraitz FC's young, revamped, title-challenging and later title-winning defense. With Ubelteso Adin's absence, he can now move into Olibondeka and stake a claim for a starting spot much like Ituraitzi legend Milian Erburu.

#19 - RB - Hitzeder Kareaga - Age 29 - Urbizania Wanderers - Uncapped
Fairly fast and good at passing, but Kareaga has a nasty tendency to lose concentration at the most unfortunate times. Still a solid right-back who performs very well for Wanderers, but Astograth is displaying a worrying lack of depth in the position.

#16 - DM – Burutzagi Bidaiyat - Age 20 - Image Edmonton United – 15 caps, 1 goal
Bred at Erathore's Niccostrato, Bidaiyat is a technical-minded midfielder, preferring to dribble and, above all else, pass the ball around like a mindless drone until the opponent makes a grave mistake. He isn't one for getting stuck in the challenge, though being young as he is he might yet adopt the rougher customs of Ikatz Alberro or - God forbid - the crunching tackles of retired Astograthian legend Edorta Urrustoy.

#20 - LM – Anixi Eturaspe - Age 27 – Royal Rumiatzi – 17 caps, 1 goal
More of a central-minded playmaker than the almost inside-forward role Yaregi expects him to play, but Eturaspe is nothing if not confident. A key player at Yaregi's own Echegoyan FC and then Royal Rumiatzi, he is good at creating chances from in and outside the box, though finishing them himself is an entirely different story.

#10 - AM - Eriz Bakaikoa - Age 23 - Image FC Axel Heiburg – Uncapped
Brought up at the prestigious Haapa-Mechelin academy in Polar Islandstates, Bakaikoa is followed by the Astograthian public at a distance since his signing for the academy's parent club. His performances for the youth national team have earned him attention and expectation; given a chance by Yaregi and no less than the #10 shirt there's no telling what he might do in the commanding position of team playmaker.

#22 - RM – Yaizki Alaberri - Age 27 - Urbizania Wanderers - Uncapped
The captain of Urbizania Wanderers is spritely and accurate, not unlike Bachiondo, but has the measure and calm to think things through both on and off the pitch - unlike Bachiondo. From a technical perspective, not too different to the other right winger in the squad, but the different personalities offer Yaregi two very distinct possibilities in his approach.

#11 - CF - Formerio Iturralde - Age 27 - Image Casuals Osteria – 36 caps, 1 goal
Dismissed by Iturributa United for his attitude and promptly snapped up by top Krytenian club Casuals Osteria, Iturralde is a self-centered goal machine not unlike a younger Soter Sarlange or the eternal Polarian forward Timo Skye. Missed call-ups after not impressing at the Copa Rushmori and Brevity Challenge Cup then ditched the option of playing for Iturributa when he noticed Astograth would probably get him more exposure. Finally obtained his first goal in a terrific display against Queer Poco el Mono Ara at the World Cup, but the question of whether more will follow remains.

#21 - CF - Ikatz Ansotegi - Age 30 - Urbizania Wanderers - 75 caps, 22 goals
Speed, height and brute force make Ansotegi an effective forward, and he has just returned to Astograth with Wanderers after a disappointing spell in Cafundéu. Built like a rugby forward and nicknamed 'The Locomotive' because he barges through the defense till he scores, he's the only man to score five in one game for Olibondeka and can be trusted to stomp all over the defense. His form has waned and he has slumped behind Atristain in the 'big man' preference list, but remains a strong goal threat.

#18 - CF - Itzaina Erreka - Age 31 - Image Teva FC – 29 caps, 8 goals
It can't be denied Erreka has had an eventful career, coming through at Royal Rumiatzi, earning every award under the sun with South Factory, scoring for the national team and then steadily declining at Iturributa United before enjoying a revival in the distant Gordonopia. Teva FC have made him a star in a league that remains largely unknown in Astograth but is one of the most exciting up-and-coming tournaments in the UICA; Yaregi has responded by gifting Erreka his first call-up since Copa Rushmori VIII.

Full Roster

Starters:...
Goalkeepers
...Travis Croker: #1, GK, 31yrs, New Albion FC
Caps: 20Clean Sheets: 1
A veteran local footballer, Croker is one of the few current players who remembers the early days of Arcadian football. After being initially being selected behing Anstis, Croker has since taken the number one jersey for himself. While Croker may not be one to pull off spectacular saves too often, his positioning and ability to read the game ensure the veteran has the most chance of making a save.

Mark Anstis: #13, GK, 27yrs, Esperance Utd
Caps: 3Clean Sheets: 1
Anstis has looked mildly depressed since he was relegated to the bench behind Croker; the incumbent's good relationship with the new manager is unlikely to change the situation unless results on the pitch give Anstis a chance.

Thomas Walton: #31, GK, 23yrs, Cannington Utd
Caps: 1Clean Sheets: 0
All arms and legs, this promising young keeper has struggled at times in the AIPFL. Walton will be unlikely to see much (if any) time on the pitch during the tournament, but will gain from the experience of being part of the squad.

Defenders
...Duncan Sinclair: #5, LB, 24yrs, South Flinders FC
Caps: 22Goals: 0
The left sided defender Sinclair provides the team with a good mixture of speed, tackling ability and long passing. His ability to read the game may see Sinclair break down a few opposition attacks in the final phases.

Terrence Marshall: #14, CB, 22yrs, North Esperance FC
Caps: 4Goals: 0
Strong technical player who marks and tackles efficiently, although struggles in the air at times. Expected to see only limited time in the middle.

...Edward Aitken: #3, CB, 27yrs, Esperance Utd
Caps: 22Goals: 0
Aitken is a technically skilled defender who makes good, strong tackles and can deal with opposition aerial threats; was just recently named Defensive Player of the Year for the second season running of the AIPFL.

Nicholas Travelli: #15, CB/RB, 20yrs, Cannington Utd
Caps: 3Goals: 0
An exciting young player from Cannington on Cook Island, Travelli is not only able to play in the centre/right of the defensive line but can also play as a sweeper as he does at club level. Was instrumental in his club side's recent AIFF cup victory.

...Rexley Sese Aala: #2, RB, 25yrs, Arcadia AFC
Caps: 23Goals: 1
A series of incidents off the pitch has tarnished what should have been an inspiring entry into international football; recent displays from Sese Aala have demonstrated that he is on the road to redemption, however he still has some way to go before his indiscretions are forgotten. Sese Aala can often be caught out pushing too far up the pitch.

...André Jamet: #4, CB, 29yrs, Rockton FC
Caps: 22Goals: 1
Strength, stamina and good man-marking abilities are the hallmarks of Jamet, who will be the key to keeping the Arcadian defensive line strong and coherent.

James Etherin: #16, LB/CB, 25yrs, Rathnest FC
Caps: 0Goals: 0
Yet to make his international debut, Etherin may be able to squeeze in some minutes under Ramolino's defensively focused formation.

Midfielders
...Zeke Fitzgerald: #11, ML/CM, 28yrs, Cannington Utd
Caps: 20Goals: 2
Brilliant on the counter attack and at running with the ball, Fitzgerald will provide a handful against those marking him. Perhaps a yard slower than he was a few years ago, his increased experience and maturity will make up for any loss in pace.

Dan Williams: #17, CM, 25yrs, New Albion FC
Caps: 5Goals: 2
Despite starting on the bench, Williams will be used as a secondary playmaker due to his good on-the-ball control and good passing ability, as well as his ability to read the game and seek scoring opportunities.

...Kensi August (c): #6, CDM, 30yrs, Arcadia AFC
Caps: 24Goals: 2
The captain and one of only two ni-Kula (aboriginal Arcadians) in the team, the other being Sese Aala, August will be the main focus of the Arcadian midfield. His strong tackling, eternal stamina and deft passing ability will be put to the test as he provides a vital link between attack and defense.

...Lucas Kennedy: #18, CM/RM, 25yrs, North Esperance FC
Caps: 4Goals: 0
Promoted to the starting side by the incoming manager, Kennedy will look to make an impact with his traditionally relentless box to box midfield style.

...Andrew Dennett: #7, RM/RW, 27yrs, South Flinders FC
Caps: 20Goals: 0
Dennett's pace and accuracy with crosses will threaten the box throughout the tournament;

Bryan Davies: #19, LW/LM, 22yrs, Arcadia AFC
Caps: 3Goals: 0
A threatening attacking player with his mixture of speed and ball control. Has an uncanny knack of beating players down the touchline although is generally quite inaccurate with his crosses.

...Robert Lamanon: #8, CAM, 26yrs, AS Bellerophon
Caps: 21Goals: 1
An attacking playmaker, Lamanon will link up with the striking pair as they threaten goal; his right foot is accurate, powerful and able to find the goal from outside the box.

Strikers
Joseph Beauchamps: #29, CF, 19yrs, Esperance Utd
Caps: 0Goals: 0
Replacing the recently deceased Gareth Sully in the line up, Beauchamps will hope to see some game time with his uncle in charge of the squad. The youngster, having only completed one season in the national league, is somewhat of an unknown quantity even at home; although has proved a handful for several of his local opponents on more than one occasion.

...Jean d'Entrecasteaux: #10, ST, 26yrs, AS Bellerophon
Caps: 21Goals: 7
The most prolific goal scorer in the AIPFL, d'Entrecasteaux is known for his decent pace and wicked left foot which although not the most powerful is very accurate.

Matt Shillington: #20, CF, 29yrs, New Albion FC
Caps: 3Goals: 1
An expert goal poacher, Shillington specialises in goals from set pieces and goals around the six yard box. Known for sledging his markers relentlessly, and often remembered by opposing defensive players long after the match.

Paul Riggott: #22, ST, 30yrs, South Flinders FC
Caps: 7Goals: 1
Riggott will usually be substituted on late in the match to use his experience to break through. Whilst his legs are ageing, he can still surprise a few defenders with his pace and ability to be in the right place when needed.

An almost identical squad has been chosen for the trip to North Isildar, Falconfar for the eleventh edition of the Copa Rushmori. Despite the disappointing string of performances at the recent Cup of Harmony, a vastly similar squad has been retained and will look to turn around their recent form in preparation for the next round of World Cup qualifiers. Napoleone Ramolino, appointed only days before the team travelled to Wight for the Cup of Harmony, is under immense pressure to deliver some results and live up to the high expectations placed upon him from his superiors within the AIFF.

Group 3 - North Isildar
Bonarisa
Arcadian Islands
Civil Citizenry
Valladares
A difficult group looms for the Satinbirds, who are considered unlikely by Arcadian bookmakers to overcome the well prepared Citiz and Valladar squads. The disappointing outings of late have perhaps lowered local expectations somewhat, and anything-but-last-in-group is rumoured to be the stated objective for the tournament; failure to achieve this lofty goal will surely see the Ramolino era end as quickly as it began.

Joseph Beauchamps is the only new addition to the squad, coming in to replace Gareth Sully who died in mysterious circumstances during the trip to, or more accurately whilst arriving, in Wight. The loss of a key member of the squad can perhaps account for the recent lack of determination and commitment on the pitch, although that excuse will bear less and less weight as this next tournament progresses. Whispers of involvement by Ramolino in the death of Sully have circulated the archipelago since the incident, and the inclusion of his nephew in the vacant spot has only helped to support the claims, albeit loosely. Ramolino has denied any involvement, and has threatened to sue those who publicly spread the rumours for defamation. Ultimately the whole circus is simply distracting the team from what is an important chance to regain a footing on the world stage; only time will tell if the off-field distractions prove costly for the Satinbirds once again.

FULL ROSTER:
(Caps in brackets indicate appearances from the bench)

Coach: Joachim Schwartz, 49
Sol Kirkkegaard's shoes are tough to fill, but Joachim Schwartz has got off to the best possible start. As winners of the last Copa Rushmori, impressively conceding their only two goals of the tournament in the final as they did so, he has already emulated Kirkkegaard's greatest achievement in terms of silverware, and so much is hoped for from the Terns under his stewardship. Not least because the sweeping changes that Schwartz promised appear to be countering the stagnation that seemed to be setting into the national team. A revolution is underway, and it is being televised. Schwartz's message of fresh blood doesn't stop with team selection and tactics either, with a subtle redesign of the kits intended to both excite the Twitchers and bring the players together in their new and improved team mentality. This idea worked at the last Copa, and during the World Cup, so why change it now? The team announced is almost unchanged from the World Cup squad, with only a few minor changes in the substitutes bench and one in the starting eleven.

Schwartz is hard-nosed and tough to win over. He values loyalty and hard work more than flair and showboating as a result, so if you keep your nose clean and work hard you'll go far in his estimations. He formerly pushed hard for the inclusion of wingers in the Terns squad, but in his quest to deliver a passing defensive game he has sacrificed them to the bench once more as he seeks to show off all the tactical knowledge that he absorbed during his time as Kirkkegaard's assistant. In his short time in charge so far, he has already made great strides towards working with youth team coach Gregorz van der Riise, making the challenge of integrating the next generation of youth players one of his first priorities.

He was justly rewarded for his faith in youth with the Copa Rushmori title, and after a strong run to the quarter finals of the World Cup, expectations will be high that the Terns can mount a serious defence of their title. Last time we were in this position, things didn't end well, so the Twitchers will demand improvement. The Terns have their wings wrapped tightly around the silverware, and they are in no mood to surrender it so lightly this time around...

Assistants:
First Team Coach: Johannes Kallstrom, 40
Fitness Coach: Duncan Kanchelskis, 43
Opposition Scout: Matteus Sigurdsson, 48

After Kirkkegaard left, Schwartz elected to keep much the same coaching and fitness squad intact. However, with an opening for his own former assistant job now in need of filling, he chose to place greater responsibility upon the shoulders of three of his most trusted colleagues. Between them, they are in charge of three of the most crucial parts of Schwartz's 'Revolution': tactical understanding and discipline, levels of fitness that exploit the natural hardiness and stamina of Polarians, and an in-depth knowledge and analysis of the oppositions' strengths and weaknesses. They will all three of them be involved heavily with Schwartz at one stage of the match preparation routine or another, though it would be hard to point at any one of and label him Schwartz's "number two."

#1 - GK - Jan Rasmus - Age 30 - FC Axel Heiburg - 8(2) Caps
From his early days at the U-21s squad, it was clear to all that Jan Rasmus has talent. After several seasons working the penalty area at FC Axel Heiburg and becoming a real goalkeeper you can trust, he has made the backup role in the senior squad his own. A trustworthy backup, just unfortunate to be in the same generation as Gammel, this lanky goalkeeper is now the first choice and will be the last line of defence in Schwartz's masterplan. The main question to be answered is, will he be able to make the step up with enough authority to replicate the string of clean sheets kept by Gammel in the last Copa?

#2 - DR - Zacharias Juul - Age 28 - Jan Mayen Islanders - 93(4) Caps, 4 Assists, 8 Goals
So often the bridesmaid and never the bride, Juul has waited patiently for his chance in the first team, and hasn't looked back since winning the starting position on a permanent basis as the Terns lifted the Copa Rushmori VIII title, remaining in the team and being a crucial cog in the squad that also won Copa Rushmori X. He is fast, a natural leader, and calm and confident on the ball, and will be one of the most consistent performers in the side, week-in, week-out, launching attack after attack up the right wing as required to by the formation being played. Now approaching his well deserved hundredth cap.

#3 - DC - Julius Oyen-Spekke - Age 25 - Resolute Storm 1913 FC - 31(5) Caps, 4 Assists, 3 Goal
Quietly putting in matchwinning performances isn't easy in the Federation League, where every move is scrutinised and caught on camera, but playing for a club outside the big four has helped. Oyen-Spekke is a young defender upon many hopes rest, and his promotion to the starting XI was seen as something of a risk by Schwartz. That, however, is what Schwartz is here to do, and so Oyen-Spekke got his big break, and was one of the stand-out performers after Urfstadt's injury, as the Terns won the Copa. His agility and ability in the air is almost unmatched, and for sheer athleticism he'll be hard to beat, particularly as he is a huge threat in the opposition box as well.

#4 - DC - Torre Urfstadt - Age 28 - Club ESF (Valanora) - 78(13) Caps, 2 Assist, 3 Goals
Urfstadt is one of the most exciting players to come from the Torshavn ranks in a long time, and was a crucial part of Torshavn's continued presence in Divisjon One, and a vital component in their Cygnus Cup winning squad. This brought him to the attention of Vanorian scouts, and a big money move saw him playing in the VSL. Fast, powerful, and one of the shining lights in the Terns'crown, now the finer points of positioning and leadership have revealed themselves to him, he is a truly formidable defender - the likes of which the Federation hasn't seen since Niko Marek. Expect his 6'8" frame to be a danger in the opposing penalty box as well. Injury kept him out of the last matches in the last Copa, but he has returned fighting fit, and harder to crack than ever as he wants to play in the final himself this time.

#5 - DL - Edvar Folke - Age 27 - SK Franz Josef City - 70(3) Caps, 4 Assists, 2 Goals
With the retirement of Steffan Pekarik after what was a fairly uninspiring World Cup run, Sol wasn't overly bowled over by the performances of his back up, Robin Arnfeldt. Therefore, with the left back position completely open, in from a string of performances in the U-21s came the pair of Baalsen and Folke. A hugely dynamic presence in the defence, Folke plays his way for SK after leaving the King's League, and his huge promise has impressed Schwartz enough to ensure he keeps the starting position, his exciting runs being a particular highlight. Schwartz has kept faith with the SK full back since Sol's departure despite a perceived lack of the assists he racks up for his club, and this consistency at the back can only help the side.

#6 - DMC - Jorgen Hauge - Age 32 - Battle (Zarbli) - 162(4) Caps, 26 Assists, 17 Goals - CAPTAIN
A well established played in the Zarblese Duke League, Hauge was snapped up by Battle from Cross SC a few seasons ago, and hasn't looked back since. Now a regular in the starting lineup for the Terns, his marauding hatchet-man presence in front of the defence means attackers can't relax for a second. A long future in the national team beckoned for Jorgen, who is impressively large even by Polarian standards, and he has a fearsome reputation that has led to him being given the captain's armband, such is the level of importance he holds for the Terns. If he does his job correctly, it allows others to do theirs more easily, and he sees everything that happens on the pitch. Under the guidance of Schwartz and Kanchelskis he has improved his fitness and his mobility greatly, and as such he operates in one of the two crucial pivot positions of Schwartz's tactical revolution as the fulcrum for the 'defensive triangle'. In defence he is a glorified libero, and in attack he becomes a deep-lying playmaker. Not bad with and from set pieces, either.

#7 - MC - Niko Lepka - Age 26 - Jan Mayen Islanders - 34(17) Caps, 33 Assists, 6 Goals
Not many would have expected such an experienced and calm reader of the game to reside in a body just twenty-six years old, however, Sol saw the talent this young midfielder has to bring the table, and brought him in in repeated squads. After a number of short cameos offered mere tasters of what he is capable of, he managed to secure a more permanent position and has since thrived under Schwartz's regime. Playing for Atletik Thessia and RVA before moving to Jan Mayen, he was well experienced and highly thought of in both Mytannion and Erathore before his subsequent move to the Islanders, who are looking to use him to replace their long standing Swartazian playmaker Krivac. He likes to give as good as he gets, physically speaking, but his real skill lies with distribution, and he is seen as the next worthy successor to Demarchelier as a truly creative presence in the midfield.

#8 - MC - Emrahn Vik - Age 26 - Jan Mayen Islanders - 31(6) Caps, 9 Assists, 2 Goals
With Henning Tir's decision to retire from international football, and Artur Rochemback's less than impressive cameos at the last Copa, and then Jorgen-Franz Bru's unfortunate injury, Emrahn Vik was handed the chance in the starting lineup rather earlier than he had anticipated, but did so with the full blessing of Schwartz. He repaid this trust with a series of marauding box to box performances at the Copa. You were just as likely to see Emrahn smashing in a shot from the edge of the box as you were to see him make a block on the edge of his own box minutes later. The move to Jan Mayen is drawing him wonderfully out of his skin, and he will be asked to repeat his performances again in the upcoming campaign. His partnership with Lepka in the midfield at Jan Mayen is developing nicely, and Twitchers will be hoping that they can bring this to the national side as well. As a result, despite Bru's recovery, Vik keeps his place in the first team.

#9 - ST - Ellis Elmsvikur - Age 27 - Royal Rumiatzi (Astograth) - 41(17) Caps, 8 Assists, 36 Goals
Imposing and athletic, Elmvikur is the complete package. Fast, nimble, packed with stamina, a dead ball ace, good in the air, and with a lethal shot he can play as a poacher, or as a supporting striker. You name it, he can do it, has done it, and will continue to do it. Very highly thought of in the Iturributan league, he nonetheless ditched Iturributa for the Astograthi league in the form of Timo Skye's former side, Royal Rumiatzi, and justified his huge transfer fee to the world with three goals in seven matches at the Copa, as well as scoring the Terns' first ever hat trick in the World Cup finals. Opposition defences will have to mark him down as one to watch, with nearly one goal every two games for the Terns so far, and he will be a key part of Terns sides in the future. At twenty-seven, he and Kvitchenko are just starting to mature together into a lethal partnership at the peak of their powers, and we could be talking of them in the same breath as Skye and Ackermann-Finn in the future.

#10 - AMC - Alexsandr van Sorensen - Age 29 - AS Bezieres (Valladares) - 117(46) Caps, 63 Assists, 77 Goals - VICE-CAPTAIN
Shining light of the side Alexsandr is twenty-nine, and at his best he can be devastatingly untouchable. Played a vital role for Jan Mayen before his move to Cafundéu where he impressed the scouts from Petardos S/A enough to be offered a contract after initially playing for CR Submiria. He also recently moved to Valladar club AS Bezieres, and he will hope to add another successful chapter to his extensive club career in the Valladar Super League. Suffers from rare brain condition synaesthesia, meaning his senses get muddled up in his head, but manages to not let this affect his attractive attacking play - indeed if anything it appears to help him. Captained the U-21s in the Draggonnii Inviyatti, exhibiting his natural leadership on the pitch that means he has been granted the vice-captain position in the squad. Having played as a midfielder for Petardos S/A, Joachim Schwartz has made full use of this natural tendency of Alexsandr's and placed upon his shoulders the other crucially important role in his tactical scheme - taking up the pivotal trequartista role behind the strikers in the 'attacking triangle', and acting as a midfielder when the side has to defend. Almost certainly an all-time legend already, he is without a doubt the Terns' key player at this tournament. Anything good will likely come through him, and at twenty-nine, if the Terns are going to use one of the best players in the world (probably) to propel them to a third Copa Rushmori title, now is the time...

#11 - ST - Diedrich Kvitchenko - Age 27 - East Franz Athletic - 36(18) Caps, 10 Assists, 24 Goals
With twenty-four goals in his Terns career so far, including three at the last Copa, Kvitchenko is a lethal striker, and is capable of playing out wide left or right and cutting in if required to do so. He is faster than he looks, and likes to use this to surprise defenders, changing direction and making a darting run that finishes in a first-time shot before many are even aware he changed direction. His ability to find space like this has been likened to witchcraft by a few defenders, and though he might not touch the ball much during the match, when he does, he uses it efficiently. Let's face it, there were two Polarian strikers in the CC-winning East Franz squad, and the nigh-on legendary Henning Blonqvist wasn't the one that made the Terns squad at the time. Yeah. He's that good.

#12 - GK - Piotr Hemjann-Bezelhov - Age 26 - Jan Mayen Islanders - 5(1) Caps
Twenty-six is still plenty young for a goalkeeper, and you'll be sure to be hearing the tongue-twisting name of Hemjann-Bezelhov for a long time, yet. Taking over the first gloves at Jan Mayen since Mathias Marek's sudden move abroad has been something of a baptism of fire for the keeper, but his reflexes and speed off his line have kept him right. Still learning, but plenty of potential, and with Rasmus not likely to be first choice for long at his age, Hemjann-Bezelhov might well be in the team soon.

#13 - GK - Nicolaj Thorsen - Age 25 - FC Cape St Paul - 1 Cap
With just a solitary cap to his name so far, there is nonetheless hope that Thorsen can develop into a fine and important goalkeeper for the team. unlikely to see any first team action this tournament, but has a keen eye and a fast reflex that has seen him good so far. Is prone to the odd lapse in concentration that affects his overall game, but it is hoped that time spent with the national team will start to work this out of him.

#14 - DMC - Andrej Einmark - Age 25 - East Franz Athletic - 5(10) Caps, 1 Assist, 1 Goal
Apparently, Schwartz isn't much of a fan of Finnibaturinn. Or, maybe he's just selecting the players he knows best, the majority of which are naturally going to be players he's watched at home. Andrej is a fine defensive midfielder in the making, and though a little way off where Hauge was at his age, he was nonetheless the standout player for North Star in Divisjon 2 a few seasons ago, and with their continued failure to gain promotion, he has taken his chance to move to East Franz Athletic as a long term replacement for Henning Tir. His range of passing is excellent, and if he takes his pointers from Hauge as is surely intended, then he could be a ready-made replacement.

#15 - DL - Luka Baalsen - Age 28 - East Franz Athletic - 14(24) Caps, 2 Assists
One of the stars of van der Riise's Chicks side for many years, this East Franz left back has impressed hugely during East Franz Athletic's run to being Champions' Cup title-lifters and hugely deserves his repeated call ups to the main Terns side. One of many youngster who has waited patiently for the legendary Pekarik and de Huyer to retire, he will seize this chance with both hands if given the chance to by Edvar Folke. Fast and intelligent, Baalsen can drill the balls in from long distance like a missile, so keepers will need to beware of his ability. He is less of an attacking force than Folke, and he can therefore be expected to be seen more in situations where a strong defence and a clean sheet are required.

#16 - DR - Dima Petersen - Age 25 - Ituraitz FC (Astograth) - 14(21) Caps, 1 Assist
Without much history in the national team, Dima is one of the wave of talented young wing backs the nation seems to be awash with at the moment, and following some impressive performances in the World Cup, Joachim has handed the man based in Ituraitz yet another call up. He is lithe and nimble, quick to change direction and a difficult marker to shift. His tackles are, well, when he tackles you, you stay tackled, put it that way, and his ferocity and determination is a key part of why Schwartz has called him up.

#17 - MC - Eyvindur Sudesval - Age 24 - Montbenoit (Saugeais) - 6(9) Caps, 2 Assists, 2 Goals
Having captained the u-21s in the past, Sudesval comes to the senior side with a wealth of experience already in his back pocket. Confident in his own abilities, he lets his football do the talking, and this quiet individual can often be seen practising alone if left to his own devices. Strong in the air and full of potential, his fitness levels are astonishing, able to run end to end for 120 minutes if needed to, therefore making him a perfect payer for Schwartz's system. Boasts a powerful thunderbolt of a shot as well as some developing vision in the game, he's a pro all-round midfielder just waiting to burst through.

#18 - AM - Kjetil Huytspurr - Age 26 - FC Axel Heiburg - 5(10) Caps, 3 Assists, 1 Goal
One of a few players called back into the Copa squad by Schwartz after periods away from it, Huytspurr is well known in the Federation League for his devastating pace and ball control down the left side of the FC Axel Heiburg midfield. His striking is frequently lethal when he cuts in from the outside, and with the departure of Kjaer from the twenty-three, his new ability to play across the front of the attacking positions gives another option for the Terns to call upon when the situation requires it. With Schwartz's move back towards a winger-less midfield, patience may have to be his greatest virtue. This will however, make him extra keen to impress once he does get on the pitch.

#19 - MC - Jorgen-Franz Bru - Age 28 - East Franz Athletic - 33(3) Caps, 4 Assists, 5 Goals
Despite being East Franz captain, Bru has to remain on the bench thanks to Schwartz' loyalty to Emrahn Vik, who stood in ably for Bru when the East Franz midfielder was out injured. He is a determined leader on the pitch, and is fiercely competitive at all times. Should Vik give him a chance on the pitch, he will be determined to make sure he stays first choice and is fired up and ready to take control.

#20 - ST - Felix Saarinen - Age 23 - East Franz Athletic - Uncapped
With a series of hugely impressive performances in the Federation League, Saarinen's partnership up front with Kvitchenko has seen the Polarian duo become one of the most feared partnerships in the league. He is fast and nimble, and yet for his age is able to command a lone striker position if necessary. Tall and a dangerous figure in the box, any cameo appearances from the bench against tired legs will be sure to see him make an impact. Twitchers are excited to see just what he can do in the Terns shirt after performing admirably for the u-21s, and I tell you what, so am I.

#21 - AMC - Vladimir Konovalov - Age 24 - Royal Rumiatzi (Astograth) - 5(7) Caps, 1 Assist
With a developing reputation in Astograth and many glowing reports from scouts, Vladimir Konovalov was called up to the Terns for the first time in his life for the Copa squad, showing enough to Schwartz and his team in his brief cameos to merit his call up to the World Cup squad as a result. Bursting with enthusiasm, the young playmaker will be itching to get a chance to use his fancy footwork on the international stage, and his vision is second to none. Perhaps his choice of when to run with it and when to execute that vision could be a bit better, but at only 24 years old, there's plenty of time to learn from those around him how best to shape his raw talents into the finished article.

#22 - DC - Nico Tchepikov - Age 23 - FC Cape St Paul - 4(9) Caps, 1 Assist
Younger cousin of Brede Tchepikov, who plays for Renneville United in Osarius, Nico was all ready to accept his callup to van der Riise's u-21s side when it was suddenly retracted without warning. Though initially disappointed, Nico was all smiles the next day when he got the phone call from Schwartz, and is one of very few players who made their Terns debut whilst still eligible for the u-21s. Strong, fast, and an excellent reader of the game, Tchepikov is looking like turning into a great defender, and whilst he only made substitute appearances at the last Copa, his continued presence in the World Cup squad shows his importance to the future of Schwartz's vision and indicates he can be expected to make an impact here.

#23 - DC - Olivier Kindahl - Age 25 - Eterna Stars (Valladares) - 7(5) Caps, 1 Assist
Another player that moved uncapped into the last Copa squad is Olivier Kindahl. Schwartz had long advocated his inclusion into the senior side, claiming Sol overruled him and took Stanislav Dahl at his last World Cup. Once Schwartz got his way however, mature-beyond-his-years Olivier stepped up to the plate magnificently in the last three games of the tournament following injury to Torre Urfstadt. Nearly as tall as the imperious Urfstadt, Kindahl is as you would expect, a terror in both boxes, and his marking skills are second to none. His accurate long range passing from the back can often be the start of a devastating counter-attack if the forwards use their initiative, and he looks to be the model of a star in the making. His hugely exciting talent was also picked up by the locals at the Copa, and he arrives in the next Copa squad an Eterna Stars player, the Super League side having snapped him up following his magnificent performance in the final.

TACTICS: "The Pythagorean" 2-3-3-2
The Polarian game is fast, quick, and physical. They won't give you a second on the ball to think, and they won't hold back in the tackle. In the centre of the park they will play a possession based midfield game, though a defence splitting pass could come at any moment towards the fast and direct attack. Schwartz's tactical plan, a narrow and heavily modified diamond formation dubbed the Pythagorean by the sporting press, is reliant upon two key triangular sets of players that transcend the normal "rows" of player in conventional formation layouts. Oyen-Spekke, Urfstadt, and Hauge will act as the defensive triangle, and van Sorensen, Elmsvikur, and Kvitchenko will counter at the other end as the offensive triangle. Hauge and van Sorensen's roles in this scheme are absolutely crucial, as their job is to support and unlock the other two players in their respective triangles, providing outlets and creativity in abundance. Lepka and Vik will be part of a compact midfield that will supply steel or style whenever the situation demands it, as well as partnering up with their respective full backs to form a kind of "bumper" that sweeps the flanks in attack or folds in to protect the penalty area in defence. Fitness of all players will therefore be key to the success of this plan, not least the constant positional changing demanded of Hauge and van Sorensen, but the athleticism of Juul and Folke in particular will be tested to the limit as their roles require frequent attacking.

Penalty Taker: Ellis Elmsvikur/Jorgen Hauge
Free Kick Taker: Alexsandr van Sorensen/Niko Lepka/Zacharias Juul
Corner Taker: Alexsandr van Sorensen/Edvar Folke/Zacharias Juul

The Maudraiska Mirror

Copa draw sojourn racks up six figure expenses bill
by Ruadhrí Mac Suibhne

Pressure on beleaguered Cumann Sacair an Tearmann (CST) bosses could be set to further intensify following the revelation that the association's delegation to the recent Copa Rushmori draw managed to rack up an extraordinary six figure expenses claim.

The claim, for which money provided through government grants is to be used in paying, includes travel, accommodation and food bills for a ten strong party of CST officials. Officials are understood to have stayed in penthouse apartments at some of the plushest hotels and to have dined in some of the finest restaurants in Irswabi, Falconfar's capital.

Malachy Hogan, one of the CST directors present on the trip pointed to the expensive coast of travel to Falconfar for the large bill saying, “It's not particularly cheap to go there, what with having to charter a spacecraft and the various taxes and so on that brought about. Some might ask why we didn't just skip the event in that case, but as a member of the CRF [Confedeación Rushmore de Fútbol] we felt it important to show our faces at what it one of it's main meetings.”

Hogan further went on to claim that the travelling group also needed to make sure the planned accommodation for the players was up to standard. He explained, “We want our players to be comfortable when they arrive in Mara Kora [the Charmunnry team's base for the tournament] so we felt it prudent to go ahead to that city and try a number of hotels there to make sure they met the comfortable standards our players expect. If they're happy with where they stay they're going to perform better.”

For many critics however such explanations fall far short of the mark with Sheila Donnelly, the chairwoman of the Taxpayers Alliance, being a particularly vocal critic.

“It's absolutely disgraceful how they've squandered public money for their own sojourn.” she complained. “This is public money we're talking about and the public are getting an extremely poor return for what they've put in. I hope the CST come to their senses and refund us our money.”

Whilst officials were downing £5,000 magnums of champagne Ancharmunn were drawn alongside Union Isle, Crolacia and Weatherdon in Group 2 of the Copa Rushmori.
I'm not on the Greenwich Meridian so my time is a few seconds behind. Bear that in mind.

Kits
Slightly unusually the Ancharmunn & Aels team will use two very different home kits during the tournament. The predominantly white kit is the Charmunnry kit to be worn in matches hosted in Ancharmunn whilst the predominantly green kit, despite looking like a tribute to Astograth is in fact the Aelsh kit and will be worn in matches hosted in Aels. The red and yellow hooped kit will be worn in all away games as long as it doesn't clash with the kit of the host team. Should it do so whichever home kit the referee deems to be the best compromise will be used instead. In finals tournaments each of the three kits will be worn on at least one occasion, with the Charmunnry kit taking priority after this has been achieved.

Darmen get ready for Copa Rushmori XI Campaign

Tim O'Donahaue and his All Greens are ready to go as the eleventh edition of the Copa Rushmori is getting underway. Darmen will have three tough opponents waiting for them in the group stage. Mapletish and Pasarga will provide the toughest tests, while Megadia will prove to be quite an easy opponent. Darmen, ranked 36th in the world, are coming off of a heartbreaking loss in the Final of the latest Cup of Harmony. All of Darmen's games will be played at the 43,211 seat Eagle's Nest.

MD1-vs. 44Mapletish (All-Time Record: 1 win for Darmen, 2 draws)
This will be fourth meeting between the two teams, and one which Darmen is quite confident of winning. "We don't believe that Mapletish poses a huge threat to our chances of moving through to the playoff rounds," commented Manager Tim O'Donahaue. The first meeting between the two squads ended in a nil-nil draw after both teams failed to execute in their attack. The second match between the two teams took place at the latest Olympics in Krytenia. The 1-1 scoreling reflected the overall sloppy play of both sides. But the latest meeting between the two nations, at the latest edition of this very tournament. The All Greens took the 2-1 victory some strong attacking play.

MD2-vs. 89Megadia (All-Time Record: 3 wins for Darmen)
In what has been quite a one sided rivalry, the All Greens are ready to put a beating on the Megadians once again. The first meeting between the two sides was in Darmen's Copa Rushmori debut, during the seventh edition. Darmen claimed a 3-2 victory in that matchup. And in fact, all three matches the two teams have been involved in has ended in a 3-2 victory for the All Greens, as evidenced by the two matches played furing the Qualification campaign of World Cup 59. "We don't expect to lose, let alone draw," claimed team Captain Tor Tong Lee. "We're in this to win, something we didn't do last time 'round against Polar Islandstates."

MD3-vs. 14Pasarga (All-Time Record: First Meeting)
In what will undoubtely be the toughest match during the group stage, Darmen will have to beat a much higher ranked nation than themselves. "We have no history against Pasarga," commented O'Donahaue, "so we won't be able to rely on the crowd or emotion during this game. Any chance of victory, or even a single point, will be dependent on our skill and execution. This is the game I'm most worried about."

In other news related to the All Greens, Tim O'Donahaue has announced that this will be the final time that seven players will appear on the Darmeni roster. All of the players are above the age of 30, and include names such as the legendary Zach Preston, Dan Baker, Abraham Gibbons, Sean Whale, Dan Lipari, Andy Judkins, and Donald Sheen. All of the players are expected to make a final appearence on the pitch at some time throughout the tournament.
