So close...

Postby Gaveo » Sun Sep 02, 2012 4:31 pm

Gaveo lost it's first game and boy was at the wrong time, we were undefeated and had the most points in the round robin... BUT we lost to a good team that was Slembana, "The boys played their hearts out, I am so proud of them." said Hernan Garcia tearing up a bit. At first Gaveo was winning at halftime two to zero from Sebastian Cadiz and Hernan Garcia. But something happened during the break because as soon as the first two minutes pasted Slembana scored two goals, Gaveo was in shock, then in the 93rd minute right when it looks like Gaveo will go to extra time Slembana goes for the all out counter and scores the game wining goal. Captain Sebastian Cadiz had this to say after the match, "There is always next year!" he joked but later sighed. But now Gaveo will face Raxillion in the third place match, VAMOS GAVEO!!!!

du-Lusavik gets an international hat trick
The Swiss team's victory yesterday against opposing team Raxillion was brilliantly led by Gordon du-Lusavik, who scored 3 of the 4 goals and had the assist for the other goal (scored by Perry). Though in recent years du-Lusavik's physical condition has been questioned by many critics, he proved them wrong in this last game. Showing excellent composure and technique, he confounded Raxillion's goalkeeper again and again by long, sweeping shots that barely brushed the top of the net. Despite being 31, du-Lusavik was also able to maneuver around players much younger than himself in order to gain his long-deserved hat trick.

du-Lusavik was also previously transferred to an international club team several months ago, being the first Swiss footballer ever to do so. He has been cited many times as not only a great Swiss footballer, but possibly the greatest.

The Slembana Times: Into the final of the Gaveoan football tournament

By Peter Whiteman, chief football reporter at the Estadio Nacional de Gaveo, Gaveo (attendance 79,876)

We have reached the final of the Gaveoan football tournament, beating the hosts, Gaveo, 3-2. We came from behind to win.

Gaveo were 2-0 up at half-time. Sebastian Cadiz gave Gaveo the lead after 3 minutes, flicking home a cross from Une Yabro. And then, in the 35th minute, Hernan Garcia volleyed home a cross to make it 2-0 to the hosts. We were in trouble.

We started the second half fantastically, as we scored two goals in the space of two minutes right at the start of the second half. First, just 15 seconds into the half, Lewis Vardy’s cross was headed home by the fantastic Jack Vanderton, who was there to score his 7th goal of the tournament. Then, just 56 seconds later, Warren Bizton slipped the ball under Gaveoan goalkeeper Victor Moreno. In the 93rd minute, the game was still level at 2-2, and it looked the game would enter extra time. Gaveo had a free-kick, and Cadiz stepped up to take it. However, the ball hit our defensive wall, and was picked up by John Hallebussy. Hallebussy played the ball up the pitch to Friday Keane. Keane passed the ball to his midfielder partner Zorro Pullman. Pullman ran forward a bit, before letting fly with a 40-yard screamer. The ball zipped into the net, sending our fans wild. As we are in the final of the tournament, we have the chance to win our first-ever international trophy, after somehow failing to do so two months earlier in the Friendly Cup.

Third Place

Postby Gaveo » Mon Sep 03, 2012 5:45 pm

Gaveo faced off with Raxillion in the third place match and won in a high scoring 5-4 result. Sebastian Cadiz got a hat trick, Li Kan Hoo and Hernan Garcia scored one goal respectfully. It started when Hernan Garcia scored a goal, then Raxillion jumped ahead by two, later Sebastian roared back with two goals and the half ended 3-2. Raxillion scored another pair of goals and Raxillion was ahead 3-4. Sebastian Cadiz scored another goal tying the game 4-4, at the 90th minute Li Kan Hoo scored the game wining goal and the crowd when crazy pouring in into the field cheering Gaveoan players on. Although it wasn't gold it was a major step into international football hopefully we win both the Copa Gaveo ( ;) ) and the World Cup!
LETS DO THIS GAVEO!!!

The Slembana Times – Champione! Champione! Olé, Olé, Olé!

By Peter Whiteman, chief football reporter at the Estadio Nacional de Gaveo 78,643

Olé, Olé, Olé, Olé, We are the champions, we are the champions! We’ve beat Free Swiss States 2-1 in the final of the Gaveoan football tournament, meaning we’ve finally gained our first international football trophy – yippee!

We opened the scoring after 3 minutes, with Jack Vanderton, the striker who had scored 7 goals up until today, volleying past FSS goalkeeper N. Jayet to score his 8th goal of the tournament. We were dominant after the goal, with Vanderton, Lewis Vardy, Warren Bizton, Friday Keane, and Zorro Pullman all seeing shots saved by Jayet. So it was a surprise when FSS equalized on the stroke of half-time when Gordon du-Lusavik curled home a free-kick from 25 yards.

After half-time, we were dominant, but we still couldn’t score past Jayet. We were trying and trying, but weren’t able to break down the Swiss defence until the last minute.

Vardy played the ball to Bizton. Bizton played it back to Vardy, who played it to Vanderton. Vanderton miscalculated slightly, only to see Keane pick the ball up and pass it to Pete Galbor. Galbor swung in a cross which nicked up off Maddie Kytle. Vanderton met the ball with a bicycle kick, and scored what could be “goal of the year”. As soon as Vanderton scored, the final whistle was blown, and our fans let out a deafening cheer, a bit like when we were playing Mesoland three months ago.

After the match, captain John Hallebussy was presented with the trophy. He lifted it in front of 40,000 cheering fans at the Estadio Nacional de Gaveo. Meanwhile, Ktyle was so upset by the loss that he kicked Vanderton in the leg and was shown a red card.

Swiss Team Takes Home Silver
"We're one closer," team captain Donovan Menelle said after the game. Even though the Swiss team had lost, they were a place closer to their dream - of winning an international tournament. Their previous record had been 3rd place in a Baptism of Fire.

"It was a hard game," admitted goalkeeper Nicholas Jayet. "It could have gone either way. But they just went for it, and we were outplayed. It sure looks great in the replays... until you remember we were the team that lost." Still, coach Jonah Nizzy believes that the Swiss team has made good progress this year. Entering the tournament, there were doubts to whether the FSS could even qualify. Now, coming home 2nd, they have a certain air of confidence that they did not possess before. In particular was Gordon du-Lusavik's startling resurgance, coming back from a string of injuries that threatened to end his 16-year career and proving himself once again.

In other news, infamous Swiss player Maddie Kytle managed to snag another red card, after the game had ended. Once the whistle blew, Kytle grabbed the ball with his hands, shouted "FOR NARNNNNIA!" and ran across the pitch, punting players aside before flinging it into the opponent's goal. He was promptly handed a red card for poor sportsmanship.

The team's last words were to congratulate Slembana on a well-earned victory, to Gaveo for a greatly hosted cup, and of course to whoever installed those enormous bathrooms.
