International Domestic Handball Newswires (and WCHC)

Postby Cyborg Holland » Sat Aug 18, 2012 12:57 am

((Becasue of the rapid growth of handball in both our country and around the world, as well as support for an international club handball competition, I've opened this thread for Domestic Handball leagues))

In this thread you may post your domestic handball leagues, transfers, cups etc. You can scorinate handball using the Handball function on Xkoranate, which can be downloaded here.

As of yet, we have no discussion thread, for transfers etc. but if it is wanted, It will be established.

But most importantly, in this thread, the World Club Handball Cup (WCHC) will be contested amongst the top clubs from around the world. The format will be as follows:

  • For the first competition, each country that wants to, may enter four teams.
  • Again, depending on numbers, the teams will be sorted into either groups/qualification draws.
  • From that, two group winners will go through to the quarter final/round of 16. And then onto semis and finals.
  • After the first competition, rankings for both the clubs, and the countries, will be established, and the top countries will be able to enter more clubs in the future competition.
  • Also, the WCHC is looking for a sponsor. Post below if you're interested.
  • The cutoff for the first WCHC is fairly soon, so I have time to scorinate it, it will occur on Wednesday, 22st August, so the first competition will no doubt be a small one.

As evidenced here, the Elitserien of Polar Islandstates has been running for a long time as an established league, and though there have long been word of mouth squabbles between the leagues in Civil Citizenry and Cotdelapoms over whose league posts the strongest teams, they are keen to now finally have an official field in which to decided things once and for all.

The traditionally strongest team, GKGK, will be especially keen to replicate their domestic domination on the international scene after slipping to fourth in the most recent championship.

Furthermore, Polarian beer company Grogg, jealous of the increase in exposure seen by Seasogs thanks to their sponsorship of the RUCT, would like to submit a bid for sponsorship of the WCHC.

As predicted, Eindhoven Tech. were once again leading the competition, and on the verge of running away with it altogether. The two teams preventing this were the two expected sides, New Amzterdam and PUP. They were tied for 2nd on points, but New Amzterdam were ahead by two goals. the real contest was that of 4th place. Any number of teams could have taken the last WCHC spot, and at the 11-game mark, it was held by suprisingly, the Lilanstorm University Butterflies, on 19 points, and even more suprising, was that Answijk Tornadoes, the team everyone had written off before the first goal had even been thrown, were sitting two points clear of AHG in 5th, just one behind the WCHC spot. Meanwhile at the less glamourous end of the table, Jaalsin sat bottom with just two wins and a grim -53 goal difference. They were deep in trouble, 3 points off safety from relegation. The Steelmen werethe other team to sit in the relegation places. Utrecht were out of them thanks to a superior goal difference, but it was all very close. Everything to play for in the next 11 rounds...

2 games to go...

With 2 games to go, it had been all change at the top. Eindhoven Tech. had been dislodged after a shock loss to Utrecht, replaced by the PUP, who were now two points clear of thier rivals. As expected, New Amzterdam held the 3rd spot, 6 clear of the fourth placed team, which was now the Andersson College Beavers, who'd climbed the table quickly in the second half. As for the plucky Butterflies and Tornadoes, dropped down after dismal second halves to 8th and 9th, Answijk winning just one game in 9 MDs. The two bottom spots were held by Jaalsin, no suprise, and Utrecht, second bottom by just 2 goals. It was all to play for the battle for survival and the 4th place as the last two rounds commenced...

A final match scrap for 4th place was contested between PTUS and ACB, deciding which would play abroad in the WCHC. The Beavers were beaten comfortably by PTUS, and thus the Gulls sealed thier international place, at the expense of both the Beavers and the Sea Dragons, who's late charge was too late. Paritzburg University Parrots were crowned champions after a close run-in, but both sides kept winning, so the PUP took the Varsity Crown. Utrecht went down by three points, and Jaalsin were way out, 11 points of 9th position.

Girl Guiding Handball and Hockey Alliance (GGHHA)

It would seem an odd mix, handball and hockey. But they complement each other, one an outdoor game with sticks, the other an indoor game without. Both have avid supporters. With the success of the women's hockey team internationally, money began to talk. And GGHHA was formed on a semi-professional basis, with both sports together adding up to year-round instead of seasonal activity. Good business, that.

As the first GGHHA handball season neared its end, word of a World Club Handball Cup reached the capital of Safe Harbour. Who could resist?

I don’t understand why only two of my clubs got to play. Why should we consider this a legitimate tournament when it is so divergent from what was promised? So far, I don't see how I could recognize these results IC.

I agree, I'm not going to consider this tournament legitimate when some countries (including the host, suspiciously) were allowed to enter more teams than others.

It would appear that the host cut the field from 56 teams to 32 by giving each of 14 nations two slots instead of the anticipated four, then allocating the remaining four places to four nations by means undetermined. Not optimal, and not transparent, but also not "suspicious".

Whilst obviously pleased to win the thing, I too am concerned at the methods used. All teams invited to be submitted should have been used. There are plenty of ways to structure playoff rounds before group stages. Furthermore, it wasn't even my fourth place team that missed out, but the third place team, bizarrely.

There should also be the case whereby the host seeks third party scorination if one of his sides reaches the final.

I apologise unrefuseldy for one giant formatting mistake. I have forgotten to put in the qualifying rounds. I will edit them in if you wish, but If it is not what people want, then consider it null.

Again...massive oopsie on my part :palm:

EDIT: Results editied in.

Would teams like the final re-scorinated by an outside party. I wanted it done quickly, and it didn't cross my mind
