Union Isle Medieval Arts Cup I (Final Day)

Postby Union Isle » Fri Aug 03, 2012 2:47 am

(Now, before you ignore me because I've got a low Post Count, I've got this, so don't rule me out and even if I don't get successful with this, I still enjoy RPing, so it's win-win)

Union Isle Medieval Arts Cup

The nation of Union Isle is known for it's great links to it's extensive past, with the Royal Family still reinstated inside the country as a figurehead for the nation.

Host Nation

Union Isle is a nation that is rich in history, with it's links to Medieval Warfare, especially notable for the Pre-Unity Era back when Union Isle and it's neighbor South Union Isle were split into five nations, Sōgen, Minami Sōgen, The Former British State of Ritoru Kuni, Yorunohi and Iruka no jōtai, whom were constantly fighting each other over the rights to the land, after a war that ravaged for a century and a half, with an estimated peace time of only 1 Years and 2 Months. The kings of each nation came to an agreement over the course of the war, with the owner of the Neutral Lands, a city where many refugees came to avoid the war, becoming King of the Nation and four of the five kings becoming High Lord's of the nation, each involved in planting a tree, the Tree of Union in the center of the Neutral Lands. The nation being renamed as Union Isle and the fifth kingdom becoming Southern Union Isle.

Recently, nearly 7 Centuries later, Union Isle was involved in a Civil War which struck Union Isle hard, with Royalists fighting the oppressive Military, which had taken the nation with slick ease. The Union Island Rebellion, supporting the rehabilitation of King Victor II's son, Vince I on the throne after it occurred he had just escaped a attack on the palace and had gone into hiding. The war raged for 2 and a half years, but ended with a victory for the Royalist side after foreign intervention. Now, a decade later, Union Isle has found themselves back on their feet, but the war took away large chunks of money from the nation, leaving it in a economically troubled state, which also weakened the currency, the Ollmhorian Di (a collective currency for all nations in the Oileánra Ollmhór Collection, the Region in which Union Isle resides) and crippled the region as a whole.

King Vince claimed that the first step to reviving the nation would be to make it appealing to tourism and with the fact that many of the cities and towns are still relatively medieval, the theme would fit perfectly for tourists looking to "step back into the past". However, a clear way to get their nation known would be to get it viewed on the world stage, in order to do this, the government tapped into medieval sports, which are still religiously practiced in the nation and after a year of building and preparation, the Union Isle Medieval Arts Cup were to begin.

Sports
The games will be scorinated using Xkoranate.

Target Archery:
Info: Archery is the national sport of Union Isle, with many great archers coming from the nation itself. Both the Team and Individual require 3 Athlete's, while less than three can be entered, the Team Event cannot be played. The same Archers must be used for both Team and Individual.
How it plays: The Ranking Round will round the players up to 32/16(depending on entrants) prior to the games beginning, with Number 1 of the Ranking Round taking on 32/16 and Number 2 taking on 31/15 etc. etc., the matches will be randomly seeded, so the number 1 of the ranking round does not end up against the number 2 etc.

If there are more than eight teams, then the lowest rating cumulative team is eliminated from the Quarter-Finals.

Location: Both the Women's and Men's Archery are played at the ground of Golden Court in Union City.

Men's Team & Men's Individual (3)

Women's Team & Women's Individual (3)

Field Archery:
Info: Union Isle's forests serve as a backdrop for this event. You can enter up to three athlete's, but they will do each kind of bow, you can exclude an athlete from using a certain type(s) of bow if this is preferred.
Location: Kazan Forest, Minami Sōgen and St. Moriko's Forest, Ritoru Kuni.

Men's Barebow, Men's Compound, Men's Recurve - 3

Women's Barebow, Women's Compound, Women's Recurve - 3

Target Javelin:
Info: Scorinated the same as Target Archery. This game is similar to javelin, except is aimed at a target from a long distance of 100M. Same sign up rules as Target Archery.
How it plays: The Ranking Round will separate the game into two seeds, Ranks 1-16 and Ranks 17-32 each fighting each other in a elimination round. The final 6 (with the four Quarter Finalists taking to fighting each other for the final 2 spots) from the Rank 1-16 and the final 2 from Ranks 17-32 will make up the final 8, the players are then randomly seeded then placed in a Final Elimination, to work out the winner. The team game will skip this, with bye's being placed for each team (randomly).
Location: Waterside Memorial Arena, Ritoru Kuni.

Men's Individual & Men's Team - 3

Women's Individual & Women's Team - 3

Fencing:
Info: Sword Fighting was long apart of Union Isle's extensive history, with many battles determined by the leaders facing a one on one combatant match. You can sign up 3 Athlete's for each sport and the team equivalent.
How it plays: Each competitor is seeded into Group Stages, which will take the competitor's down to 16 Remaining Players which will play in a Elimination Match.
Location: Aster Castle, Yorunohi.

Men's Individual Épée & Men's Team Épée - 3

Men's Individual Foil & Men's Team Foil - 3

Men's Individual Sabre & Men's Team Sabre - 3

Women's Individual Épée & Women's Team Épée - 3

Women's Individual Foil & Women's Team Foil - 3

Women's Individual Sabre & Women's Team Sabre - 3

Jousting:
Info: Jousting will be scorinated the same as individual fencing. Jousting is a unique sport to the world stage, with many safety precautions put in a place to ensure safety. The teams aim to knock each other off their horses with Lance's, to fall off the horse would be to lose a point. The game plays until one athlete has fallen off 15 times. Due to expectation that mild damage could be done to the competitors, athlete's are advised to come with two substitutes. Each country can also enter 2 Competitors into the contest.
How it Plays: Each competitor is seeded into Group Stages with three competitors each, the top 2 of each group being placed into the finals.
Location: Ashford Castle Jousting Grounds, Union City

Jousting - 2 (+2)

Medieval Pentathlon:
Info: Proposed by the Oileánra Ollmhór Olympic Commitee, the Modern Pentathlon is the only game that has been modernized, Union Isle agreed, as it served a good way to show off all four states in one sport but decided to put a medieval twist on it to keep it in the theme. The athlete's score points for Fencing, Swimming and Riding, the highest scoring athlete goes first in the Combined Event, which starts in a Shooting Range, which uses Crossbows instead of Pistols, then run 1000 Meters, they do the Combined Event three times over, to determine a winner. One of each of the four events take place in the four districts of Union Isle. (Excluding Union City) Two Male and Female Competitors.
Location: Senshi no Ichi Colosseum, Sōgen (Fencing). Torēdā no pōto Swimming Court, Minami Sōgen (Swimming). Prince's Court, Ritoru Kuni (Equestrian). Quinns Sports Colosseum, Yorunohi (Combined Event).

[i]Men's Medieval Pentathlon (2)

Women's Medieval Pentathlon (2)

Horse Racing:
Info: This may or may not take place as I haven't yet worked out a way to scorinate it. A popular sport that brings in a large gambling revenue for the nation, the arena is to be flat for this game, with no obstructions in the way. Two Competitors.
How it plays: All the competitors take place in two separate races, one with Obstructions and one without. There are two races of each, both earning a medal. There is also a time trial event on a flat track, with the fastest horse winning.
Location: Prince's Court, Ritoru Kuni and Drake's Field, Ritoru Kuni

Scorination

(Passage stolen from the previous Olympiad Thread.)

You can put the skill modifier of your athletes, by adding a number (it must be just after the name of your athlete or team, and preferably in parenthesies. Please turn smilies off when you post, or any numbers ending in an 8 may end up as a guy wearing shades). The skill modifiers are from 0 to 100, from the lowest to highest. 0 probably means the athlete (or team) was called (or organized) without having any proper training or preparation; imagine them as an Eric the Eel. A 100 means that the player is part of an elite group of athletes for the event. So, you can input any number between 0 and 100 - whole numbers only please, 37 is OK but 44.6 is not. Skill modifiers refer to a single entry, and not to a person or a sport. This means that a full Fencing team, for example, has a single skill modifier, at the same time that an athlete competing in multiple events can have one different modifier for each event.

Please also note the following: the average of all the skill modifiers in your delegation cannot be more than 50, although it can be lower than it. Any list in which the average of skill modifiers end being higher than 50 will have its skill modifiers reduced until it meets the 50 limit. And, finally, entries without a skill modifier will have it set to a default modifier of 50.

RP Bonus

A Bonus will be given out to your team if you RP. The number of this boost is 10%.

Competing Nations & Medal Table

The best scoring nation will claim the Medieval Arts Cup at the Closing Ceremony.

Heh, I was expecting no one to sign up.

And I'm using Xkoranate, also, reforming Modern Pentathlon to use, less Modern Items.

Also, forgot to mention, RPing Bonuses will be included in the games.

Will skill modifiers be used, or will this competition rely solely on RP?

I'd suggest using the auto racing function on xkoranate.

Since I want to keep this individual from other games but also want to run this as a recurring event if it gets a fair following, then I want to keep it impartial, so the first edition will be reliant on RP, but later on, skill modifiers will play a factor.

EDIT: After doing a quick google search, Skill Modifiers can be used, just note that, the Average for your athlete's cannot go over 50% collectively, much like the previous Olympic Games.

I just want to let you know that this is my first actual sporting event on NS sports with other players, so I might need a little help with things. :)

Games marked Red Means that it is a Medal Event. There are 34 Medals up for grabs over the course of a week, with an extra Roleplaying Bonus Medal (Called the Fairplay Medal) awarded to the three characters who were roleplayed the best, this is the only medal Union Isle is personally unable to obtain. In event of a tie, the Cup will be shared.

Also, unless someone signs up by tonight, I'm gonna have to sign up my Puppet Nation to allow certain events to work, they'll be forced to have an average of 30 Skill Mods instead of 50.

OOC: Can we RP now?

Mr Jones walked into Chris Broadman's, the Head of sport in Apox, office

"Sir, when are getting that delegation ready to head to the medieval arts cup in Union Isle?" he asked, earnestly. Chris looked up hurriedly from his desk, a worried grimace stretched across his face.

"What, Jones?" he barked. He was far too busy for this, with the preparations for the world cup.

"Well, Sir, we did sign up for it, and It would be bad form to let down the team with a no show,"

"I'm perfectly aware of what the expectations are," Chris snapped, "When did we enter it?"

"Three months ago, sir," Mr. Jones timidly replied.

"And WHEN is it," snarled Chris, his face becoming more and more red by the second. God, that man gets like a real pig when he's stressed.

"Uh, the Opening Ceremony is in three day," said Mr. Jones, practically cowering at this point.

"THEN WHAT THE DEVIL ARE WE WAITING FOR MAN," Chirs exploded, "GET A TEAM READY NOW!!!"

Mr. Jones stumbled out of the office, terrified of the consequences that would occur should he not get his act together.

*Half an hour later, Mr. Jones' office*

"Yes, I know it's short notice, but we all F**ked if this doesn't go through," said Jones to a severely worried archery coach.

"Fine, I'll get you a target archery team," said the coach, resignedly.

Mr. Jones put down the phone and slumped back in his chair. How had it gotten to this? How had he forgotten? He looked at the team roster. It wasn't much but it was all he could get. With the archer's in, that meant he now had a small team, with the equestrian event leftovers brought in for the jousting and some county level javelin thrower brought in for the target javelin. He sighed. He we go, ready or not, he thought.

Forgot to say, yes.

Ye olde Cup shalt begun tonight

It's been a while since Union Isle has seen any kind of global interaction without an frightened President or Monarchy threatening to attack us, so we happily welcome this new edition to Union Isle's culture, the Union Isle Medieval Arts Cup. A medley of various events that mimic the history of the nation especially the infamous War of King's. The games to take place over the course of the next week span from Archery to Horse Racing, Javelin to Fencing and even Jousting, just to name a few.

Tonight, the Opening Ceremony takes place, a closely kept secret to the organizers and we are highly anticipating the arrival of the games. People to watch on team UI is Archer Shaquille Cohen, champion of the last 5 Union Isle Men's Archery Cups, Beverly Hunter, female Target Javelin defending world champion, Beverly Hunter and the Union Isle Jousting Pair Ryoichi Nat and Digby Hotaka, we'll bring you post games coverage every day as well as interviews with our athlete's. Until then, may ye day be jolly good ol' chaps.

Evening/Opening Ceremony:

As the 20,000 global fans of medieval sports, athlete's and intrigued tourists filled the Colosseum, the lights dimmed out, leaving a light shining on the eight flags of the participating nations, with their flag bearers standing in front of the flag,
"Competiting in the First Union Isles Medieval Arts Cup, Chevalbourg, the Free Swiss States, Darmen, Aquitayne, Free South Califias, Apox, St. Haru Peninsula and the hosts, Union Isle themselves!"

Moments later, the scene changed, a play was put on, the history of Union Isle, starting with the dawn of the War of the Seven Kings, each king laying his stakes in taking over the land, attacking the land of other nations and in return getting attacked back, the play proceeded to show many of the famous Battles of the war, before eventually joining to sign the Treaty of Yuniti, with the scenes then showing cultural evolution in the country, with the British and the Japanese colonies mixing, creating the unique race of Japo-British Union Islanders. Before ending with the lighting of the torch, with a Union Islander on his horse, jumping over the cauldron and dropping the torch in, igniting the room in a flurry of bright colours, the flames catching onto ropes and trailing upwards, igniting the NS Olympic Logo, then, King Vance declared the First Union Isles Medieval Arts Cup open.

Good luck everybody and enjoy the games.

Early Victories for Union Isle's Women

Sports United - Medieval Arts Cup I

The games started off strong last night for Union Isle, with Satomi Chouko scoring first in the Women's Barebow Individual and the Women's Recurve Individual and Beverly Hunter and Yuzuki Ami scoring first and second respectively in the Women's Target Javelin. Other successes from Union Isle include Conrad Yoshi and Shaquille Cohen claiming 2nd and 3rd Position on the Men's Target Archery and Darrel Ken claiming 2nd on the Men's Target Javelin. The country to watch out for is Free South Califias, who have claimed many high spots in many of the events last night, including a win in the Women's Compound Archery from Otilia Mayonga Alva.

Either way, Union Isle has made it their goal to win the first ever Medieval Arts Cup, so they might keep it in their country. The first medal events begin tomorrow, with the conclusion of the Target Javelin as well as the first Flat Race in the Horse Racing. Our medal hopes on the first day lie especially on Beverly Hunter, world champion of the Target Javelin.

Mr. Jones sat back in his chair and sighed, and vowed that he would never put himself in charge of the Union Isle Cup team ever again. Or any team for that matter. This was far too stressful for him.

However, the team had arrived in Union Isle with 10 hours to spare before events had started. Thank God for that. He picked up the scores sheet that had been put in front of him. He picked out his players.

DNQ Vincent Weekes APX 622 7 1

DNQ Claire Battershell APX 603 4 2

9 Oliver Wordsworth APX 617 8 0

3 Kate Smith APX 628 12 4

It was a mixed bag, although he decided that the next team to participate should definitely include more women, with Jean Montesall and Kate Smith currently in the medals. However, three out of four DNQ's went to Apoxian athletes. Well, they had been put together at the last minute.

Aquitayne at the Union Isle Midieval Arts Cup

Aquitayne was represented at the Union Isle Midieval Arts Cup, the first international sporting event the nation has ever attended. Many throughout the country are looking closely at the games, to see where Aquitayne will stand in the medals. During the opening ceremony, the Aquitaynian men's archers, Darnell Heidgerken placed 4th in the Men's Target Archery, as well as Roman Krepps placing 6th, with Elijah Commito following in 8th place. Aquitaynian athletes did equally well in Women's target archery, with Zoili Bistilne placing 3rd overall, with Alene Rease trailing in 8th place and Ellie Vantol in 14th. The women's archery teams are looking to be extremely good this season, and many are hopeful they'll take us to the medal rounds.

Free South Califas has been taking many of the top tier placements in the Opening Ceremony's events, however analysts say that this kindof victory streak can't be held for long and into most of the events, which eases the fear for many back home to the big question: are we going to take home any medals? Many athletes believe Aquitayne has a strong chance of at least getting 2 or 3 medals, and expect at least one of those to be gold. People's hopes are high, and the expectations of the athlete's coaches are exceedingly higher. Below, we have the Opening Ceremony event's placement tables for you.
