ANL Season One - Part 1

The Apoxian Football Board have decided to create a national football competition for the year 563 A.T, after the regional leagues were set up 12 years ago. To quality for the inaugural Apox National League (ANL), teams had to be in the top 3 in each of the 4 regional leagues, which would complete a 12 team league.
In future years, there would be a promotion and relegation system, in which the top team in each of the regional leagues would have a play-off system in which the two winning teams would be promoted and the two bottom teams in the national league would be relegated.

In the inaugaral season, the participating clubs were (regional league in brackets)
Dwile Central (Dwile League 1)
Dwile Warriors (Dwile League 1)
Issington F.C (Dwile League 1)
Barbury Town (Northern League)
Cierbana United (Northern League)
Wrexton F.C (Northern League)
Urbanista (Seafront League)
Exton F.C (Seafront League)
Southtown (Seafront League)
F.C Brimstone (Midlands League)
Gwinevra Barbarians (Midlands League)
Wye United (Midlands League)

Each team plays each other twice in a season, resulting in each team playing 22 matches.

The first matchday went as follows;
Dwile Central 1–0 Barbury Town
Dwile Warriors 1–1 Cierbana United
Issington F.C 1–2 Wrexton F.C
Urbanista 3–2 F.C Brimstone

Season Overview:
The season was dominated by Dwile Warriors, as they only lost one game all season, and won by a margin of 9 points. The clubs who qualified for the Globe Cup were: Wrexton F.C, Barbury Town and Urbanista. Down the other end of the table, for the majority of the season, F.C Brimstone, Wye United and Gwinevra Barbarians fought it out over who would be relegated. However, a late surge up the table, saw Gwinevra finish 5th, far away from relegation, and F.C Brimstone just managed to avoid the drop on goal difference. Cierbana Utd had a long slow descent into relegation from around the halfway point.

This leaves a play-off between the four regional divisions as to who will replace the two relegated teams. The teams participating are:
Gurdle A.F.C (Norther Region)
Egloskerry (Dwile Region)
Sunshine Athletic (Seafront Region)
Bouldertown (Midlands Region)

The Play-Off results were:
Gurdle A.F.C 2-3 Egloskerry
Sunshine Athletic 2-0 Bouldertown

Next year we welcome Egloskerry and Sunshine Athletic to the Apox National League.

The first ever season ended with a clear winner, Dwile Warriors. The Warriors only lost 1 game in the entire season, finishing 9 points ahead of the second placed team Wrexton F.C. Below will be all the team, with each teams chances evaluated, and each teams expert predictions made by Jordon Ramsbottom, head of the ANL (Apox National League) and Jon Quillisi (pundit from TVSPORTS)

Dwile Warriors - The returning champions will feel supremely confident, having won the title so comfortably. They have already added to their current squad, by signing the young striker Keri Ularu from Southtown for NSD800,000.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 1st, Jon Quillisi - 1st but by a smaller margin.

Wrexton F.C - Few people would have predicted that Wrexton F.C would finish as high as 2nd last season, however, they did it that result was a credit to their young squad. No transfers made as of yet, but the manager was said to have his eye on a few players.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 5th, Jon Quillisi - 3rd, just.

Barbury Town - Another surprise club in the top 4, they were expected to come 5th or 6th. However, with experienced manager Tee Blackburn guiding them, how could they go wrong. Another club with no transfer activity as of yet, but still in the market, they will next to start buying if they want to remain at the top.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 2nd, Jon Quillisi - 4th.

Urbanista - Urbanista seemed to sneak up on 4th place by consistently winning, and showing that they had strength in depth. However, club and country captain, Dravid Scott has put in a transfer request, which could really damage the teams chances next season if he were to leave. Just in case, striker Amy White has been brought in from F.C Brimstone for NSD100,000 to replace Dravid Scott should he leave.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 4th, Jon Quillisi - 7th.

Gwinevra Barbarians - After a long run in the bottom end of the table, the Barbarians had a fantastic second half of the season, losing only 4/11 games, propelling them up to 5th in the table. They have signed Will Fich from Dwile Warriors for NSD300,000 to boost their defensive power, as that was the area which let them down the most throughout the season.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 6th, with the middle part of the table closely contested, Jon Quillisi - 5th.

Dwile Central - Had a poor second half of the season, which left them mid-table at 6th. However, this season will teach them about stamina throughout the season, and next year hopefully they will come back strong.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 3rd, Jon Quillisi - 2nd.

Exton F.C - Exton were very consistent throughout the season, and ended up at 7th, a respectable mid-table finish. To improve their chances next season, they have recruited Tyler Henderson from SC Monfort, Licentiapacisterra, for NSD500,000 to aid their striking chances.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 8th, Jon Quillisi - 6th.

Issington F.C - They had a fairly bad season for their standards, and have duly brought in a new manager, Enid Samuels to help their chances this year. They have also brought in Cas Newan from Wrexton F.C for NSD650,000 to push them up the table.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 7th, Jon Quillisi - 8th.

Southtown - Southtown were always expected to be relegated, and the loss of their star striker Keri Ularu to Dwile Warriors will not help their cause, and will make surviving next season a real struggle.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 12th, Jon Quillisi - 11th.

F.C Brimstone - F.C Brimstone scraped through into this season on goal difference, however, their player stocks have been pillaged by other clubs, causing concern, and the recent signing of Jacques Christie, from Wye United for NSD300,000.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 11th, Jon Quillisi - 9th

Egloskerry - Promoted after a brilliant run in the Northern Regional League, and winning against Gurdle A.F.C, the Egloskerry team will be confident of remaining in the National League come the end of this season.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 9th, Jon Quillisi - 10th

Sunshine Athletic - Only just winning the Seafront regional league, and then being able to beat Bouldertown, lands Sunshine Athletic into the National League. This is a remarkable feat considering that the club is only 4 years old!
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 10th, Jon Quillisi - 12th

ANL Season 2 - Part 2

Dwile Warriors are just holding onto the top spot at the halfway stage, with Gwinevra Barbarians with the same number of points, only being separated by points difference. The surprise package of the season is F.C Brimstone, who are currently in third place, an enormous difference from last season. At the other end of the table Wrexton F.C are doing incredibly poorly, placed 9th, whereas Southtown and Sunrise Athletic are in their expected positions of the bottom of the table.

ANL Season 2 - Part 3

As the season begins to wind up, with only 5 matches left to play now, the table is as exciting as ever. Dwile Warriors are just holding the top spot, however, Gwinevra Barbarians are not far behind in 2nd place. Dwile Central and Urbanista seem set for Globe Cup spaces, as they are both five points ahead of 5th place, on 27 points. Issington F.C and Egloskeery are both having exceptional seasons, with them swapping places with Barbury Town and Wrexton F.C who are near the bottom of the table. And in the relegation battle, Sunshine Athletic are 4 points adrift of Exton F.C who are 10th. Southtown are 1 point lower, on 13 points, in last place.

12 Southtown 22 6 1 15 33 52 −19 19 Relegated

Season Overview
Dwile Warriors stormed to a second title, by a large margin of 7 points, after Gwinevra Barbarians faltered, and had to settle with second place and a Globe Cup appearance. Fighting it out for the other Globe Cup positions were Urbanista in 3rd and Dwile Central in 4th. Dwile Central had a particularly good season this season, fulfilling their potential.

In the middle of the table, Wrexton F.C had to settle for 5 place, after a late surge up the table, seeing them just miss out on a Globe Cup spot. F.C Brimstone, Issington F.C and Egloskerry all had good seasons, ending up in 6th, 7th and 8th position respectively. Barbury Town had a very poor season compared to the last, finishing 9th and Exton F.C will also be disappointed with their 10th place finish.

In the relegation zone, Sunshine Athletic and Southtown both ended up where they were expected to, and will be relegated.

The play-off this time will occur between:
Frewick F.C (Dwile Region)
Gurdle A.F.C (Northern Region)
Athletico Standard (Seafront Region)
Wye United (Midlands Region)

Frewick F.C 0-4 Athletico Standard
Wye United 2-1 Gurdle A.F.C

For the 3rd season we welcome Athletico Standard and Wye United into the Apox National League.

Season Preview

After Dwile Warriors second victorious campaign the question must be asked, can anyone else beat them? Below will be all the teams, with each teams chances evaluated, and each teams expert predictions made by Jordon Ramsbottom, head of the ANL (Apox National League) and Jon Quillisi (pundit from TVSPORTS)

Dwile Warriors
The Warriors had a great season last time, retaining the title, by accumulating 48 points. However, the competition will be trickier this time, with Gwinevra Barbarians snapping at their heels. Key striker, Keri Ularu will need to flex her goalscoring muscles once again this season as without her, they have no real goalscoring threat. However, the team splashed out on Western Cuba's winger Ricardo Calderon, for an enormous 5 million chucks, to aide their transfer chances.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 1st, Jon Quillisi - 2nd

Gwinevra Barbarians
The Barbarians started very well last season, however, a run of poor results towards the end of the season cut them out of the title race and in the end they had to settle for 2nd place, which will have disappointed them. After spending 2 million chucks on Rancisc Tenian of Farfadillis and with more spending said to come, it is looking like it will be a season in which they will want to press on for the title.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 3rd, Jon Quillisi - 1st

Urbanista
Another solid performance from Urbanista, but with little transfer activity as of yet, will they be able to sustain it? That is the question that must be answered as to whether they can.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 2nd, Jon Quillisi - 4th

Dwile Central
A better campaign last season saw Central climb to 4th. However, the loss of Stan Miller will hit them hard after his retirement, he was the top scorer in the league for the first two seasons. They will need to bring in someone big to replace him.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 6th, Jon Quillisi - 5th

Wrexton F.C
A terrible first half of last season meant that only a 5th placed finish was attainable. However, they are improving and they have the best academy in Apox - maybe this season the fruits of their labours will finally shine through.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 4th, Jon Quillisi -3rd

FC Brimstone
A fantastic performance by the team last year, probably the best team unit last season. However, their strikers will be hot property this season, so they will do well to hold on to them. If they can't, then they will be in trouble indeed.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 8th, Jon Quillisi - 7th

Issington F.C
Issington seem to have done a good job of occupying the middle of the table so far, and they will hope to move up and on from there. Their only trouble is they are too inconsistent to pull out good results, match after match.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 7th, Jon Quillisi - 6th

Egloskerry
A good job to stay up, Egloskerry are going from strength to strength after a promising pre-season routine. However, they are a bit of a wildcard, and who knows where they'll land up.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 5th, Jon Quillisi - 9th

Barbury Town
They fell a long way after their 3rd place finish in Season 3, and now the question really is, can they survive? The team seems to think so and will pull through with their usual grit and determination.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 11th, Jon Quillisi - 8th

Exton F.C
They just survived last season, after struggling. They've brought in Pierré Benlizar from the Free Swiss States to help steady the ship, but even so, it will be a struggle for them.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 9th, Jon Quillisi - 11th

Wye United
They were knocked down... but they got back up again, and this time will be hoping to stay. However, will they manage it? I will certainly be difficult whatever happens.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 10th, Jon Quillisi - 12th

Athletico Standard
A rather unknown team, and quite surprising that they were promoted. It'll be interesting to see how it pans out for them.
Predictions: Jordon Ramsbottom - 12th, Jon Quillisi - 10th

The Formation of the Apox Rugby Eight (ARE)

After many years of rugby clubs organising their own matches, in a series of friendlies, the Apox Rugby Board (Union Division) has sanctioned the creation of a rugby league, especially after a poor performance in the Esportiva Union Cup and after our intention to join the next Rugby Union World Cup was announced.

A total of 8 clubs were selected to participate in the league, as they had the best infrastructure and the best finances. The clubs selected are: (city in brackets)

Dwile Jerseys (Dwile)
Mona Warriors (Mona)
Gwinevra Saints (Gwinevra)
JK Memorial Squad (Dwile)
Southern Urbanista (Urbanista)
Northern Urbanista (Urbanista)
Barbury Exiles (Barbury)
Mandon Faithful (Mandon)

Image

The season will consist of each team playing the other twice, one at home, once away. The top four clubs will qualify for international competition.

Part 1

The 3rd Season of the ANL has begun, and after 6 matchdays, it's incredibly exciting! Gwinevra Barbarians have pulled out a 2 point lead over Dwile Warriors as the Warriors attempt to gain a third successive title. Just behind them, Barbury Town and Issington F.C are doing surprisingly well, and are currently in the Globe Cup spots. Lower down, Urbanista and Dwile Central are struggling slightly, while Wye United is having a good season. Down at the bottom of the table, the usual suspects are fighting for survival, with Exton F.C, F.C Brimstone, Egloskerry and Athletico Standard all looking for those two survival spots.

Below these two, is Barbury Town who are excelling this season, and looking comfortable in 3rd place. However, the battle for 4th place is wide open, with anyone from 4th to 8th in with a shout, making this the closest season yet down the bottom.

Part 4

Gwinevra Barbarians managed to hold out and win the title, finishing 5 points over Dwile Warriors who were 2nd in the end. Urbanista, greatly helped by the return of Dravid Scott from the Saer Republic, managed to overturn a 7 point deficit with Barbury Town, and stole 3rd place, with Barbury ending 4th. The rest of the teams were traditionally close, however, with Wye United and Exton F.C finishing in the relegation places at the end.

No Club Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Gwinevra Barbarians 22 15 4 3 47 30 +17 49 - CC
2 Dwile Warriors 22 13 5 4 47 25 +22 44 - GC
3 Urbanista 22 11 3 8 37 33 +4 36 - GC
4 Barbury Town 22 10 5 7 34 29 +5 35 - GC

5 Wrexton F.C 22 8 6 8 24 21 +3 30
6 F.C Brimstone 22 7 7 8 30 35 −5 28
7 Athletico Standard 22 8 4 10 24 29 −5 28
8 Issington F.C 22 8 3 11 26 31 −5 27
9 Dwile Central 22 7 4 11 29 30 −1 25 - Liquidated
10 Egloskerry 22 7 4 11 30 40 −10 25
11 Wye United 22 7 2 13 28 41 −13 23
12 Exton F.C 22 4 7 11 25 37 −12 19 - Relegated

And interesting fact is that Wye United have been saved from being relegated again by the collapse of Dwile Central, who have gone bankrupt, and been bought by Issington F.C so the two clubs can merge and form a new 'superclub' to challenge Dwile Warriors and Gwinevra Barbarians for trophies. However, because of these large debts, many of Dwile Central's player will have to be sold off to make sure Issington don't fall into debt themselves. It is not known what will happen to Dwile Central's stadium, but it is thought the ground may be sold to pay off the debts of the club.

This leads up to who replace the two outgoing clubs from the regional leagues. The play-off will occur between:
Mandon Utd (Dwile Region)
Mona A.F.C (Northern Region)
Sunshine Athletic (Seafront Region)
Gwinevra Bulls (Midlands Region)

Mandon Utd 1-0 Sunshine Athletic
Mona A.F.C 2-2 (3-2 AET) Gwinevra Bulls

Grand Reinvention of League Structure in Apox

After a week of meetings with managers and officials, it has been decided that, the Regional Leagues should be merged to form the Apox National League 2 below the top tier. This would increase the variety of teams that play against each other and hopefully increase competitiveness for spaces in the top tier. This more recent of reshuffles is a key milestone in fledgling Apoxian football, with the regional leagues only being established 10 years before the creation of the ANL.

As a result of the reshuffle, the regional leagues would cease to exist, except for the Dwile League 2, which would still continue underneath the central leagues. The regional leagues were very small anyway, now only comprised of 4 teams for the Northern, Seafront and Dwile leagues and 3 for the Midlands league, meaning competition was almost not worth doing in these leagues. It was clear for at least a season, that change had to be done to increase effectiveness.

So, the competitors in the inaugural ANL 2 are,

Frewick F.C (Dwile League)
Real Dwile (Dwile League)
Old Licentians (Dwile League)
Outer Suburbia (Dwile League)
Cierbana United (Northern League)
Gurdle A.F.C (Northern League)
Barbury FC (Northern League)
Lighthouse Coves (Northern League)
Exton F.C (Seafront League)
Southtown (Seafront League)
Sunshine Athletic (Seafront League)
Urbanista Trojans (Seafront League)
Bouldertown (Midlands League)
Gwinevra Bulls (Midlands League)
Miners '87 (Midlands League)

This new 15 team league will hopefully introduce an element of stability to the lower leagues and make the teams slightly more prominent.

Image

The ANL will start again, this time with no clear front-runner for the victor, with four favourites for the title, with Dwile Warriors and Gwinevra Barbarians the most likely, however, Issington F.C and Urbanista could also be in with a shout after their squad bolstering. Who can tell what will happen? One thing is for sure, it will be exciting.

Down the other end of the table, Bouldertown and Lighthouse Coves are struggling to adapt to life in this new format, and see themselves placed last currently.

ANL League 2

Exton F.C seek to gain instant re-acception into the Nation League after their relegation last season and have pulled out quite a lead at the top. Gurdle A.F.C are 2nd, although Miners '87 are just a point behind in 3rd. At the other end, Gwinevra Bulls, Lighthouse Coves and Bouldertown are trying to avoid the ignominy of being the worst team in professional Apox football, a dubious honour.

Formation of the Iskandic League

After hours of deliberation, it has been decided that the creation of a league in Old Guard is a good idea. Before this time, football had been played in only unofficial matches, with no real league structure. In fact there had only been two clubs beforehand, amateur of course, and these clubs had played each other quite a lot.

However, the league, the Iskandic League, named after the First Arch-Baron of Old Guard, Iskander the First, who was instrumental in setting up the country as the quite reasonable haven that it is today.

The clubs who have signed up for this venture are: (town based in, in brackets)
Oldem Gents Club (Oldem)
St George's Creek (Oldem)
Old Guard Regiment (Guardia)
Moscva 2k12 (Oldem)
The Dambusters (Michucari)
TP Indians (Tellabocari)

While the favourites for the trophy are the established clubs of Oldem Gents Club and St George's Creek, in reality, anything can happen. The winner of the Iskandic League will play the 5th placed team from Apox as a trophy competition, called the Iskander-Scott Cup, after two great legends from each country.
