Cruise to 10-4 Win, 95X Next
WESBROOKS FORUM, COMPOLIS, CAMWOOD -
The Yesopalitha Lightning cruised to their first win, over unranked Shellopolise, as they started off the fifth edition of the World Indoor Soccer Championships with a bang, at the Wesbrooks Forum in Compolis, Camwood.
Rénée was the star for the Lightning, scoring seven of the team's ten goals, as the forward showed why she was extensively scouted by the U-21 National Team in a dominating performance. In one five-minute stretch in the first half, she scored three goals in obliterating fashion, all off her right foot from the right side of the pitch. Roger Mallet, the Captain, was the assist man on five of the seven goals scored by Rénée, while scoring two goals himself.
On the defensive end, Tovalí had a rough time in the beginning of the game, conceding three goals early, but calmed down with help from Martin and Petrovich, and managed to pull off just enough saves until Rénée started going. The goalkeeping will become a concern as the competition goes on if Tovalí doesn't find his groove early, but it wasn't the case against Shellopolise.
Next up, the Lightning will have one of the two face-offs against 95X, ranked ninth in the world and first in Group A. The winner of this match-up will be in the driver's seat early in Group A, as all the rest of the teams try to chase them down for the elusive Group Title.
If Rénée and Mallet continue their striking duo combo, the Lightning will have no problem getting there. If they die down, and Tovalí cannot stand up to the pressure, they will suffer their first defeat...
