Thank you very much everyone for the well-wishes! I have met a lot of great people on the forum since I began and I wish everyone the best. I never intended to be such a regular player here, and in many ways, it was other nations who shaped the direction of my own with ideas that I was given. With a baby boy on the way (sorry Audio, Jeremy is not on the shortlist for names, which we haven't decided on yet), I am at that crossroads here where it is time for me to move on.

Congrats! With my 8th child expected to arrive sometime in July(oh, thats why McKleigh's RP's are short and suck a little), let me assure you that there is not greater joy than that of parenthood.

Switching accounts quickly because this is purely a player opinion, and I don't want anyone to think otherwise...

I'm not wholly convinced that the policy of waiting until a bid is in before opening WC signups is working. While a break to recharge RP batteries is welcome, I think we're currently losing a lot of momentum in a period where there might be a lot of interest in the NSWC due to the RL event.

When we changed to a "open sign-ups for two weeks, close, reopen when hosts have been chosen if they want it reopened" system to help control numbers, I thought it was no more than that; that sign-ups would open around the time the previous WC ended, would stay open for two weeks, and then would reopen at the discretion of the hosts once the latter were chosen.

Adding the condition that sign-ups can't open until bids are in seems to be a new twist, and I'm not 100% sure it's working.

This remains entirely PiS' decision, of course, but I would perhaps suggest opening sign-ups now, just to give a kick in the arse to potential hosts.

On that topic....

I am still soliciting interest from potential bid partners. I did have a potential partner in place, but after looking at our calendars, that partner would prefer to bid for 70, whereas I'd prefer to bid for 69 so as to avoid a potential conflict with my September trip to Mount Athos. So we've decided not to bid jointly.

Anyone interested in a bid with the Holy Empire should TG me, please.

This was something I'd considered in the past couple of days, yes. The news that you're still looking to bid for this WC will hasten my decision considerably.

I've actually been considering putting up a BoF bid for the last few days, to force the opening of the signup thread (my understanding is that the posting of a BoF bid would also result in the opening of signups). Although I'd prefer not to host another WCC tournament so soon, I'd be willing and able to step in this cycle, if that was to be needed to ensure that we have a BoF or CoH.

Waiting until there is a bid to open the signup thread worked well the past 3 teams because there were bidders (Audio and TIS in 66, myself and Legalese in 67 and 68) that had the desire to bid for the World Cup. Right now, we don't have that (and I'm not particularly surprised, given the difficulties in obtaining BoF and CoH bids over the 2 most recent cycles). Relying on the initiative of prospective bidders to open the signup thread may not always be reliable, the same way that relying upon somebody taking the initiative to open signups for the World Cup of Hockey didn't really work out all that well last year and into this year. While I believe that this new way of running the signup thread is, generally, a good idea (just as avoiding unnecessary bureaucracy and avoiding Constitutional provisions for every minor issue that might come up over the course of a tournament are, generally, good ideas), I do think that the signup thread should be opened anyways if we go too long without a bid.

This is true, and having thought about it this morning I'll open the thread this evening I think. I'd be bidding for the BoF myself but I'm going to be taking part with a puppet, so.

Which reminds me, could one of the previous hosts TG me a list of those who posted a roster in the last WC so I can update the WCC membership, please? I never was sure where you were up to with roster links/lists...

Honestly, I'm considering that this is the indicated moment to bid for BoF 56 with another more experienced partner, well I have the partner but I'll submit the bid in a few days, depends of PIS plans to open the sign-ups.
