Isserson Olympic Stadium, Emberton Krytenia

The noise inside the Isserson Olympic Stadium varied on which nation was parading. The crowd was politely cheering for each country as they entered the stadium. The atmosphere was unreal, especially down in the tunnel where the athletes of various countries waited for their nation's name to be called. The athletes from Mantwenic were calm and collected but nonetheless excited to be in Krytenia. Their turn was approaching and Mark Claythorne, Mantwenic's flag bearer anxiously waited; his palms sweating and his heart beating as loud as a drum in his ears.

LIVENTIA

The athletes of Liventia paraded out as a large cheer went up from the crowd. Even some of the athletes in the tunnel applauded.

A few minutes passed before the loudspeaker came on again...

LYMANTATIA

A much smaller cheer went up from the crowd, but nonetheless it was a cheer. The athletes applauded again and waited out what they assumed to be the most exciting moment of their lives.

MAINEIACS

The realization that they were next struck the athletes of Mantwenic as they applauded the athletes of Maineiacs. Also it was the first time that the front part of the Mantwenic delegation could see the entire stadium. Mark Claythorne held onto the flag for dear life, his knuckles were white as he and the rest of the delegation stood in bright blue jackets, white pants and white button down shirts. The minutes crawled by like hours. Mark felt a arm wrap around his neck he saw it was Babus Locus, one of the natives who was brutally made fun of on national television by some of the guys on the water polo team. Babus spoke very little english but he whispered into Mark's ear:

"You carry flag just fine... you no worry"

"Thanks Babus... you don't have to worry either..."

"Me worry?.. about what?" Babus asked.

"About the racist jokes going around the delegation... just tune them out, you'll do fine" Mark replied.

"Oh... that... thanks Mark I no worry". Babus said

"Alright... now we're about to head on out there... I want you to try your hardest to be proud and represent Mantwenic even if your people are being mistreated alright? And if there is anything I can do for you, don't hesitate to ask." Mark replied.

Before Babus could answer the loudspeaker announced MANTWENIC and Babus patted Mark on the shoulder one last time and took his position in the delegation. Mark lifted the flag high and waved the glorious blue, red and yellow. The crowd let out a sizable cheer as the delegation paraded onto the track. Each of the athletes carried a small flag and waved them as some videotaped the parade and others took pictures. It was indeed a huge honor and an incredible moment for each athlete. The rest of the evening flew by but each and every athlete for the Mantwenician delegation knew that they belonged there and that they were representing their country no matter who they were or what part of the country they were from.

Olympics Officially Open in Krytenia


It was a day of celebration and national pride, as Saugeais and 87 other nations walked out to a roaring crowd in Emberton, Krytenia. The Isserson Olympic Stadium was jam packed with 190,000 in attendance, all watching in awe at the opening ceremonies, cheering as their own nation was announced over the loudspeaker. Saugeais, led by star tennis player Stefan Baptiste, was introduced after Sargossa, and the 106 athletes marched out to a nice round of applause from the crowd. Smiles, waving, and a multitude of handheld cameras to capture this magnificent events were with the Saugeain delegation as they continued to march on, eventually finding their spot amongst the rest of the field.

Before this festive event, though, we had two sporting events with Saugeain participants take place within the last 24 hours. The first being the opening match in football, with Saugeais' Under-23 squad managing only a draw against opponents Cyborg Holland. It was a very drab match, not anything like what Saugeais was used to playing o the international level. Even with the inclusion of Kusman Ruslan, Dietmar Dietmar Öztürk, David Schultz-Eklund, and Jacques Martin, the Olympic team only managed one goal against a physically weaker opponent. They had plenty of chances in both halves, but only in the 65th minute did they score: a long cross from the wing into the box by Jonathan Miles that Ruslan finished with a powerful header, giving Saugeais the lead. Aharsh foul by full back Deforest Seaver led to a penalty kick and a sending off in the 88th minute. Martin, who had trouble stopping shots over the course of the SPL season with Riverside, failed once again this time, diving right as the shot went left. Saugeais snatch only one point from the match and will face Ko-oren in the next group match.

And just earlier in the day before the ceremony, the Saugeain archery team was on display. Georges Howe was the top archer for the team, with his 665 good enough for 34th place; Wayne Jarvis was in 67th place after shooting 650 points, and André Descamps rounded out the group with 635 points, good enough for 94th place. Overall, the team stands in 16th place with 1950 points total, tied with Homelands our, and just 2 points behind the combined team of Vilita and Turori. The archers are now drawn into a knockout round bracket, where they need to summon all of their skill to advance. Howe will start off against Stephane Delacroix from Maineiacs, Jarvis will go against Kyle Cunningham from Ad'ihan, and Descamps will take on Robert Tanner from Cyborg Holland.

"Maineiacs" said the voice on the loudspeaker. Boxer George Norman started out into the stadium bearing the Tie-dyed Flag, the rest of the team following behind. They made their way around the track, and took their place beised the other competing nations. The Krytenians seemed to have spared no expense for the opening ceremonies, and the lavish show continued for quite some time. Finally, an athlete from the host nation recited the Olympic oath, and an official declared the games open. George exhaled deeply. "One last day in the sun" he thought. Tomorrow, he would have to resume training in earnest. The matches had not been announced yet, but there was a good chance that the 40-year-old fighter would be matched with some kid half his age. He had sworn that his previous trip to the Olympics would be his last, but in his heart he had known he'd be back. This time, however, it really would have to be the last time. His body would not take much more punishment without serious repercussions. Still, win or lose here, he'd had a good run. He could hang up his gloves with pride.

  • Men's Football: The Men's Olympic Football Team failed to impress in their first match, gaining only a point from their 1-1 draw against Ross Island. With matches remaining against Mapletish and North Europa, Darmen must gain their total complement of six points if they hope to advance to the Round of Sixteen. Sergio Autitore scored the only goal for Darmen in the 68th minute. Manager Tony Bordelli says that he looks foward to Darmen's next match against Mapletish. "This is the biggest test we'll have during the Group Stage. Hopefully we can make the best of it."

  • Men's Archery: In the Ranking Round, Ben McKay finished 66th, with a score of 650. Beattie Canadeo and Herm Llewellyn finished 99th and 100th respectively, both finishing with a score of 633. In the team standings, Darmen ranked 31st, with a combined score of 1916. Ben McKay will face Trey Sidwell, of Civil Citizenry, in the Individual Round of 128. Herm Llewellyn will face Hoan Etselda of Euskiribakondara, while Beattie Canadeo will face Wahm B'chur'hur of Carmadin. Darmen will face The Babbage Islands in the Preliminary Round of the team event, with Shofercia awaiting them in the Round of 32 should they defeat the Babbage Islands.

  • Men's Baseball (Demonstration): The Darmeni Olympic Baseball team won their first game against West Guiana, 6-3, as starting pitcher Joshua Runyan pitched six scoreless innings before giving up a three run home run in the seventh inning. In their second game, Darmen lost to the Kytler Peninsulae, with closer Jeffery Wilbanks giving up the only run of the match in the final inning.

Magnificent opening ceremony starts games officially

Striking colours, a giant lion, the lighting of the flame - all part of this evenings magnificent opening ceremony. It was a proud moment for the host nation inside the 190,000 seater expanded Isserson Olympic Stadium in Emberton. The ceremony, which has been in planning for months, involved a number of displays starting with a video wall montage of the build up to the games in Krytenia. Next it featured an expensive fireworks display and visual performances by hundreds of teenagers and workers from the cosmipolitan city, and a raising of the flag to "Celesta" by a ceremonial Krytenian military unit, the Krytenian Cavalry Guard. Most interestingly a long white lion figure, hoisted by the aforementioned workers, made its way around the stadium floor to raptorous applause. The FSSO Olympic Squad took part later in the opening parade of nations, getting a rousing cheer from a decent Euran contingent in the crowd.

Armán: Hello everyone! You must remember me from Lasft, where I did the coverage of the Euskal Olympic Début with Ulía Amandagaría. Unfortunately, she is not with us anymore, since she has focused on being a TV host. Nonetheless, I am now proud to introduce you to Irina Arzumanyan, one of the most beautiful ladies from the Erebuni Province!

Irina: Thank you very much for such a lovely introduction of myself, Armán. I am a common sports commentator in Euskirribakondara and Artsakhestan and now I'm in the next level, here in Emberton!

Armán: Just impressive. Well, it's the afternoon and we're setting up everything for the Opening Ceremony, but right now we must talk with you about what has happened in the last days, in which we've had preliminaries for Archery, Football and Gymnastics... The latter, a sport that Euskirribakondarans A-D-O-R-E.

Irina: Exactly. Well, in football we had the preliminaries for both women and men. The men's team defeated Mesoland 2 over 0.

Armán: And in Gymnastics, first we had the men's preliminaries. Our team is made up by Kamo Tarrastabiloa, Eusi Nastarrapla'a, Mauro Dajalkoes, Albert Gugen, Hermenegildo Supatarrankés and Hoan Paulo Tertzoperrau. With scores over 93.125, the three first I mentioned qualified for their individual finals. And the whole team was able to go to the finals with a combined score of 555.925. Don't you just love that?

Irina: Our team will have to battle against Cafundéu (CAF), Bruyn (BRN), Vekaiyu (VEK), Taeshan (TAE), Cowardly Pacifists (CPS), Civil Citizenry (CVC) and Shofercia (SHO).

Armán: On the other hand we'll have Mauro Dajalkoés on the floor event and in the vault event. He also qualified for the all-around final, so he's right now the King of Gymnastics for the Euskal team.

Irina: Let's hope that means medals in the future!

Armán: Well, let's hope that our trend of missing medals in the 4th spot does not continue this time.

Irina: In fact, hahahahaha, I've heard a running joke in Shofercia where if a Shofercian athlete misses on the gold or bronze medal by a bit, they say he's Euskirribakondaran.

Armán: Hahahahaha *endless laugh* Sorry, that fills me with laughter and pity at the same time.

Irina: Hahaha, oh my god, well, let's hope this time that changes.

Armán: The Euskal women cannot be set back as well. Our women's team qualified for the team's final, and two of its members, Balena Lopez and Nadia Bailakoas qualified for the all-around final. Vekaiyu (VEK), Shofercia (SHO), Krytenia (KRY), Taeshan (TAE), Bergnovinaia (BER), Akbarabad (AKB) and Civil Citizenry (CVC) will be our oponents... Pretty much like the males' event.

Irina: Balena Lopes will compete in the Balance Beam and the Floor finals as well. Andrea Osorio also made it to the floor finals in a quite interesting moment... Both her and Sidney Charles from Qazox qualified for tying in the 8th place. We'll have 9 finalists!

Armán: It was that or not having Andrea in the finals. I mean, we can be very happy about this.

Irina: Lastly, we had Archery, in fact.... That was this morning. And that's how I got sunburnt.

Armán: I told you! Sunblock is important here where the sun sets like at 20.00!

Irina: No need for nagging, señor. But well, we have Beharrok Monigastúa in the 12th place; Serhio Etselda on the 22nd and Hoan Etselda, his brother, on the 29th. They will go to the round of 64. They'll have to defeat Luke Charniga (CDG - Cassadaigua), Utopman Nishskan(KOR - Ko-oren) and Herm Llewellyn (DAR - Darmen), in that respective order.

Armán: As a team, we have 2008 points, thus being in the 4th position. See? 4th... I'm starting to get angry!

Irina: Hahaahahah, okey. Taeshan, Capitalizt SLANI... And Shofercia again, are above us.

Armán: I really predict our matches with Shofercia will be the pot o'gold for our commentaries. It seems promising.

Irina: Tela Besugatestúa came 22nd, Monika Ardana 53rd and Harixa Ardila 92nd. They also qualify, but with less hopes. They'll have to fight Evelyn Monse (North Europa - NRE), Michelle McIntyre (LEN - Liventia) and Emma Farrington (SSO - The FSSO). And as a team they are 18th... So stop thinking about medals already in this side.

Armán: That's what has happened so far. Luckily... Because I wouldn't remember more data. But I can tell you more about the other countries.

Irina: Like what?

Armán: Well... Qazox is carefully analizing all performances. Thanks to their analysis I was able to remember that our women's team in water polo made the medal round.

Irina: And our friends in Carmadin are already looking forward to our matches with them. That'll be just as exciting as the Shofercian stories that we're about to see.

Armán: Oh heck... I knew I was forgetting something.

Irina: Right.. 8)... The group draws!

Armán: Well, we go to another section of our show whilst I browse for the data about it.


Irina appears in the plaza that surrounds the Isserson Olympic Stadium, she's with a cameraman and she's approaching people who is entering the stadium, ready for the opening ceremony.

Irina: Well, how about you... Yes, you sir... Come here... Is that a Carmadin's flag?

Carmie fan: Yes... I'm ready to see how my team is going to knock you out Euski!

Irina: Heheh, a daredevil. Well, and what's your name?

Carmie fan: Th'chiydurch Ng'uhmurj. Nice to meet you.

Irina: (:eyebrow:) Well... Mister Yogurt.

Carmie fan: Ng'uhmurj!

Irina: Yeap... You know what?... I have to leave. But thanks for your intervention!

Carmie fan: Was it for my name? My friends call me Tachiydarjiklu if that works for you.

Irina: No, I really have to go. Whispers to the cameraman: Let's go!

Irina wanders around to distract the Carmie fan. Then he goes away and she tries to approach other fans

Irina: Hey you! You seem to have an easy name... You're from Chenkorya, right?

Chenkie fan: Yes! Yes I am! A big hi to my family in the Southwest province!

Irina: What's your name?

Chenkie fan: Jolanne Marwijk. I just arrived, since I was in Chenkorya enjoying ChenkorVision and Mademoiselle's Tour Concerts.

Irina: Nice! And are you just going to be in the opening ceremony?

Chenkie fan: No... I plan to be on almost all events.

Irina: Hey... What about if you're my insider for the events.. What do you say?

Irina and Jolanne exchange basic information to contact each other. Then Irina says bye and goes to another fan...

Irina: How about you... What's your name?

Krytenian fan: ¿Disculpe? No le entiendo ni mú. (Excuse me? I don't understand anything)

Irina: Ah, perdón.... ¿Es usted Español? (Oh, excuse me.... Are you Spanish?)

Opening Ceremony

For this coverage, it's the images provided by the OCOGE of the Opening Ceremony. In grey is what is happening in the Opening Ceremony, in black and the usual format, what the commentators say about it.

Armán: It is about to start and I just cannot believe this. We're here in Emberton!

Irina: Easy man... Easy! But yes, tonight is the night for excitement as the sun sets whilst the torch is lit. The Olympics will be officially opened in some minutes.... And the whole ceremony to kick it off is just seconds away.

Armán: 190,000 people are packed here in the Isserson Olympic Stadium, and we have 19.00 in our clocks... Which is Branta Time. And that is UTC-17, which means, 10 hours less than in Euskirribakondara. So there, we'd have 5.00 am in Euskirribakondara. I hope everyone woke up early to watch this.

Irina: Well, at least they're not like us... Jet lag and that weird syndrome for changing between timezones.

Armán: Would you stop it with that already?

Irina: :unsure:.. Well, I won't say anything else about it. Now, let's go to the opening ceremony here in...

Both: EMBERTON!!!!!

The TV screens showed EUSK1's logo. Then, the special Euskal vignette made to introduce the Games. Finally, the image of the Isserson Olympic Stadium. Everything was in the darkness, but the flashes of all cameras were creating little dots of light all around. The voiceover announced the welcome and the video screen began the countdown to the beginning of the ceremony. Starting with the closing ceremony in Lasft, and swiftly moving through clips of athletes training, construction workers making the venues ready, the Olympic torch passing through the Krytenian countryside, the firework display from the Ashton Games...and then the number ten appeared in huge red letters. "10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2..1..." Silence and darkness, for the merest of instants, before the explosion of dozens of fireworks and the raucous cheering of the crowds.

Armán: They have just welcomed us to an amazing show. A red tarpaulin is covering the football field, and it has an area of about 62,000 square meters. I wonder how they got all that fabric or plastic to make it.

Irina: Big numbers, huh? Well, we have more of those. Around 1000 kids and teenagers are the ones you'll see next. They will form a very characteristic figure before the Olympic flag comes in.

A bevy of brightly-clad children and teenagers, in pink, blue, green, white, blue, and black charged into the stadium, splitting into groups to form various shapes. Eventually, they met in the middle, forming themselves into the shape of the Olympic Estoile; or at least, a close approximation, the substitution of red with neon pink looking somewhat off, but then red on red really wouldn't have worked. The children dispersed, forming a loose and seated cordon around the edge of the tarp.

Next, the Olympic flag entered the stadium, carried by members of the Emberton Constabulary in their fetching navy blue formal dress. The flag was raised at one end of the stadium, accompanied by the Olympic Hymn; the Krytenian flag, raised with a rousing chorus of "Celesta" by members of the Krytenian Cavalry Guard, followed soon after.


Irina: I told you! It was the Olympic estoile with a very tiny modification. But red wouldn't work on red, that's for sure. In fact, that's the explanation the OCOGE gave before the start.

Armán: Michael Estañez is the director of the show. He's in charge of tonight's synchronization and coreography. It's hard to work with more than 300 TV cameras from all over the world and lots and lots of props and extras.

Irina: What you heard some minutes ago, right after the Olympic Hymn is the anthem of Krytenia, called "Celesta". Lots and lots of Argentals, the Krytenian currency, were spent just for this moment.

Armán: Uh, the Krytenian economy can take it. Plus, have you seen how many tourists we have? They're definitely going to take that money back.

Irina: Well, we now go to a very interesting part of the show that shows how the city of Emberton cares about industry and commerce, pillars of their city and its configuration. 600 people will be in the lion you'll see, and 89 will be in the "international group". Apart from that, the Embertonians will account for 311... So it's 1,000 people right there in the field.

Armán: You are going to see one familiar face in those 89. It's Hüsniye Andargorró, from Eastern Azərşuradə, the part that belongs to Euskirribakondara. She works for EUSK1 as the reporter for Mainland Rushmore.

With the sun slowly disappearing over the horizon, the floodlights once again were extinguished, as the next part of the opening ceremony followed. Lit by a bright white spotlight, a long white and silver Chinese dragon-like trail of people, covered with an elongated representation of a white lion, entered from the south end of the stadium. As the "lion" made its way around the stadium, behind it came people dressed in mining gear, as lumberjacks, as factory foremen, and as city gents, representing the importance of industry and commerce to the cosmopolitan city. Behind them, eighty-eight people, vulpines, Ursines, and others, each an Emberton resident originally from one of the competing nations (and Vulshain), to signify Emberton's reputation as the City of Nations, a melting-pot of cultures, ethnicities, and species, a corner of each foreign field on Krytenian soil. As they, and the children, filed out to reserved seating elsewhere in the stadium, it was time for the proper business of the ceremony to begin; the Parade of Nations.

Armán: It's now time for the parade of nations!

Irina: And with special cameras around the stadium we'll show you how the crowd responds to some nations. Specially when our name is announced, since many still can't remember our name.

Armán: The list will follow an alphabetical order with two exceptions. Cafundéu will start as the last host, and Krytenia will end, as the current host.

Irina: That means we have to wait until 34 delegations make their way into the stadium, and then, we'll see the Euskirribakondaran delegation. Manoel Rosero is our flagbearer, since he was a Gold Medalist in Cycling - Men's Team Sprint and a Silver Medalist in Cycling - Men's Keirin in the Lasft Games. Unlike last time, we won't have two flagbearers.

Armán: And next time, we will have a female flagbearer... I sense it.

Cafundéu started the ball rolling; as in Ashton, they had been given the position of honour among the participating nations as hosts of the Sixth Summer Olympics. Ad'ihan, Akbarabad, and the debuting Alcia followed behind, the crowd politely cheering each flag as it entered the stadium.

Irina: That girl you see over there is Daniela Funez, a Cafundelense athlete in the Aquatics sport. Zahid Akbar will carry the flag of Akbarabad. Hey? What a coinicidence of names! in-te-res-ting.

Armán: While my friend here keeps on whispering Akbar.... I can tell you he will participate in the Modern Pentathlon and also on the Men's Decathlon.

Ancharmunn got a small cheer, neighbours Astograth a noticably larger one, whilst the muted cheer for the Arcadian Islands was more due to the fact no-one had ever heard of them.

Armán: And the flagbearer of Ancharmunn is Maelíosa Nic Rhaith, a tennis player.

Irina: Hey! You pronounced it correctly.... That Irish class worked out for something, isn't it?

Armán: Hahahah, yes.

Irina: Astograth's flagbearer is Arbeitza Azanza... That sounds very Euskal. She participates in several Sculls' events.

Babbage Islanders and two flavours of Ursines followed (Bahrrenland getting pretty much silence, whilst Bears Armed got some reasonable support - not as much as the bear-worshipping Ashtonians though).

Carmadin (CRM) enters as the 19th nation.


Armán: Behd'mur Dohchoyt'z'nur is carrying the Carmadese flag. I practiced hours to be able to pronounce his name.

Irina: Well, it's nothing like mister Yogurt.

Armán: Who?

Irina: Ehm... Nevermind.

Euskirribakondara enters as the 35th nation.
"Euskirribakondara! L'Euskirribakondare! Eusquirribacondara!"


Armán: There they are! Introduced in English, French and Spanish, like all nations.

Irina: Hey! They pronounced our name correctly. I love those little details.

Armán: Hahahaha, did you see the look on that athlete from Ferkas. It was like "WTF". Yes, we tend to get those looks when we say our country's name.

Over eighty teams had made their entry into the stadium when, at last, the black and white flag of Zwangzug entered view, and the crowd held its breath... "Krytenia! Croitenie! Creteña!"

Armán: Kraitinia! (Euskal for Krytenia)

Irina: Shush... It's not our time yet!

If the stadium had had a full roof, rather than two arcing canopies, the thing would have been torn off by the deafening cheer. The host nation, last into the stadium, waved, took photos, and generally looked beyond ecstatic to be here. With the athletes in place, and the time growing close to nine in the evening, it was time for the final formalities. The Olympic Handover Flag, still on its short pole from the Lasft Games, was brought into the stadium.

Armán: Okey... The Cafundelense officials have handed over the flag to Emberton. Nice. It's time for the oaths.

Irina: Taking the Athlete's Oath is Cyclist Tom Lorqvist. It will be subtitled here...

In the name of all the competitors I promise that we shall take part in these Olympic Games, respecting and abiding by the rules which govern them, committing ourselves to a sport without doping and without drugs, in the true spirit of sportsmanship, for the glory of sport and the honor of our teams.


Armán: And now, we have the greco-wrestling referee James Lomas taking the Judges' Oath:

In the name of all the judges and officials, I promise that we shall officiate in these Olympic Games with complete impartiality, respecting and abiding by the rules which govern them in the true spirit of sportsmanship.


The Olympic President, alongside His Majesty King Tristan, took to the podium. With a message of best wishes to all the participants, the Games were officially declared open...leaving just one more task to fulfil.

Armán: For those who don't know, he's the ruler of these lands... King Tristan.

Irina: And the younger guy, Marcos Gusmão Mentor, the president of the Olympic Committee, who served as the Cafundelense Olympic Committee President during the last games in Lasft. Hehehe, it rhymed!

Armán: Again? Oh please... Let's see the torch lighting now!

Carrying the torch in a contraption attached to his wheelchair, it was Percy Matthews who brought the Olympic flame into the stadium. He, of course, had lit the torch in Ashton, but that was not his job here; instead, he passed it on to legendary footballer Kiefer Lloyd. He, in turn, did half a lap of the running track before passing it on to former cyclist Michaela Astarlosa. She made her way to the base of the cauldron, where she was joined by Krytenia's most famous judoka, David Santa Cruz. Michaela lit David's torch, but did not let go of her own; instead, two torches, and two sporting legends, ascented the hydraulic lift to the top of the cauldron. And so it was that the first man, and first woman, to strike gold for Krytenia lit the flame and sent a message to the world.

Irina: That hidraulic lift is powered by giant electric generators and that hidraulic thingy over there.

Armán: It is known there were problems with the lift, but not tonight, of course.

Irina: Oh, they're about to say something...

Michaela Astarlosa and David Santa Cruz: Welcome to the City of Nations. Welcome to the Nation of Sport. Welcome...to the Games of the Seventh Olympiad!

An helicopter of EUSK1 shows the Olympic Park from above with all the pyros that were closing the Opening Ceremony.

Irina: Impressive. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. About 7,000 people participated directly on the Opening Ceremony. And the volunteers, 15,000 so far also helped indirectly.

Armán: Nice OCOGE logo and wonderful opening ceremony Krytenia!

Welcome to QBC, I'm Eddie Valmers host of the afternoon edition of Olympics Live!. After last night's stirring opening ceremonies, to be remarked upon by many as the best opening ceremonies ever; the Games themselves, which despite a few events that had taken place before the opening ceremony; offically began today. Here is how Qazox fared:

Chrissie Sutter's 3-points with 4.2 seconds left was enough to lift Qazox to a 84-81 win over The Arcadian Islands.

Marta could only watch as the ball soared through the air, the final timer only a tick away from running out. It hit the rim and looked as if it would bounce off and out to the side...but then...no, it couldn't. She hid her face in her hands as the ball rolled backwards, falling through the metal loop and earning Homelands Our to two points it needed for the win. The buzzer sounded less than a half second later, making the result official.

70-69.

A one point margin of defeat, in a match that the pundits had all but given to them. The tears were beginning now as she turned and stormed off the court. She went right past her teammates and her coaches, through the door and into the tunnel that lead back to the locker rooms. The sounds of the crowd faded away as she moved deeper into the concrete substructure of the building, tears now pouring down her face and her hands balled up into fists.

"Excuse me, Ms. Vlasic? Could I have a word please? Trevor Martin, from the Free Coventry Press."

Her head snapped around and she had to look down to see the reporter, standing there with his Dictaphone already out and a smart little grin on his face. It was the grin that did him in, his joy over having caught some 'scoop' at her expense was the final straw. She didn't even think about it, just raising her right hand and slamming her fist into the mans stomach. He dropped like a sack of potatoes, the wind knocked out of him and the force of the hit actually knocking him against the wall. He slumped down as she stormed off, but not before taking a moment to kick the Dictaphone which had fallen free from his grasp. It smacked against the concrete wall, the plastic case splintering and several wires popping out. The tape also ejected, and she made a point to step on it as she left.



Chancellery Sport Network

[Tim and Nate are situated behind a desk. The screen behind them changes from showing scenes from the Womens Basketball match and now shows footage from the cycling competition.]

Tim - "After the surprise defeat in the first womens basketball match, may fans had been hoping for some glory in the Men's cycling Road Racing event today. Unfortunately it seemed that the fates conspired to continue the trend of poor Ferkian performances, even in a discipline which we are usually far more adept at."

Nate - "Sad but true. The best finish in the event was from Ian Gardener, no surprise there. What was a surprise though was that he finished tie for 64th place. Such a distant finish from the podium, in both place and time, was a rude shock to the preeminent Ferkian cyclist who had only yesterday been talking up his chances of performing well."

Tim - "Not that his teammates did any better though. At least Gardener managed to stay on his bike, on the course, and finish the race."

Nate - "Louis St. Fleur failed to finish, crashing out hard just a bit more than halfway through the course."

[Footage now shoes St. Fleur, decked out in a red and gold cycling outfit. He is obviously moving fast as he attempts to negotiate a sharp turn. His front wheel twists slightly and he plummets to the ground. He slides several feet, tearing his uniform open along with giving him nasty road burn. He manages to pick himself up and tries to get back on the bike. However the impact has twisted his wheel. He tries for a moment to fix it before giving up, realizing that he has fallen too far behind. He sits on the curb of the road, hiding his face in his hands.]

Tim - "He hasn't commented at all since then. Going into the race though he was considered to be on par with Gardener and could have contended for a medal finish."

Nate - "If he had remembered to stay upright."

Tim - [An awkward laugh] "Yes, that probably would have helped."

Nate - "Sanchez Meridian continued the trend of not finishing also, but in an even more dramatic way."

[Footage again changes, now showing Meridian on the course. He somehow misses an obvious turn and shoots through a gap in the temporary fence that had been put up along the course. He rides off the course for some distance before making contact with a tree and crumpling to the ground.]

Tim - "Really though, what the heck was he thinking? Did he just not see the turn?"

Nate - "I don't know, I've never seen anything like it. There was no attempt to respond, even after he was clearly off the course. He just plowed right ahead at top speed. Very odd behavior."

Tim - "Just as odd is that he passed through the halfway point in 5th position. He was flying out there. On pace for a massive personal best performance for him, if he had finished."

Nate - "Yes well, it always depends on that, doesn't it?"

Tim - "To change the topic slightly here...Nate, did you know we have an Equestrian team at these Games?"

Nate - "What, with horses and all that jazz? Are they actually any good?"

Tim - "Nope! Not in the slightest. Just thought that you might find that interesting to know. They competed today too, which I guess is great to know if you are into that sort of thing. We have more coverage about that available online...I think."

Nate - "Something a little more exciting, although with a similar final result. Womens Fencing, the individual foil to be specific. Our mens team for this sort of thing is far stronger, but we did have one surprising performance from the ladies."

Tim - "Eliza Freeman deserves credit for defeating her first two opponents in the rounds, even though coming in she had only minimal experience with the event. However, she was eliminated in the final round of the day, ruining any hope for an amazing underdog story in the finals."

Nate - "We will wrap things up very briefly with shooting and swimming."

Tim - "Yea, weren't not very good at either. Enough said about that?"

Nate - "Well...yea, pretty much. No one advances, no one just misses out. Not at all a strong part of a roster, is it?"

Tim - "Not in the slightest. Anyways, that is our final wrap up for now. Tune in later to catch more Olympic action, coming to you live from Emberton!"

Live from Emberton, Krytenia, from ITV's built facilities on Emberton , here is the Olympic Games Report with Nekonian anchor Felicia Mittens and street footballer Kamine Nagatono.

Felicia is wearing a normal gray dress and Kamine is wearing jeans and a Red Bull Brighton City football team jersey as both of them are behind the news table.

Felicia: Welcome to our Sportive Report here on ITV! I'm Felicia Mittens!

Kamine: And I'm Kamine Nagatono.

Felicia: Yay! We won our first match at Baseball!

Kamine: Indeed. NSI obtained its first victory beating Carmadin 9-2!

Felicia: Whoa! That's awesome news!

Kamine: Also, congrats to Jay Copperfield! Even though he only got to be at the 32nd position, Copperfield at least finished the round! Good job!

Felicia: Yes. Also, we had the first event of Equestrian Dressage. Kaori Kawaguchi got the 110th position with 56.2.

Kamine: At Fencing, bad news, Sonya Brighton, Elise Debraux and Melina Firess were eliminated. Akira Nakayama was eliminated at Judo. Ryoko Nagamitase was eliminated as well. At Shooting, Leonardo de Souza, Israphel Molineaux, Rozana Mochi and Lynette Neidhart didn't made the cut.

Felicia: At Swimming, only Madison Rogue qualified for the Women's 100m Butterfly. Maurício Lima qualified at Table Tennis. NSI lost at Volleyball to Megadia. And that's it. Pretty Dissapointing...

Kamine: Look on the bright side. If we get eliminated quickly, we can take the time to make parties!

Gary Cullen: Decent sday in the water. The men's 400 free and the women's 4x100 free struggled, but Qazox has two finalists, one male and one female in the 400 IM and semifinalists in the women's 100 butterfly and men's 100 Breaststroke. Women's tennis began today, and luckily all of Qazox' women had a bye in the prelim round.

Michelle: Women's indoor volleyball began today as well, and alos there did the Qazoxian women have the night off. The Men took to the beach for beach volleyball this afternoon:

22-year old Jurnsie leads Women' Archery

Today, at the final day of pre-proper Games events in Emberton, Krytenia, in the Women's Individual Archery event, 22-year old Eindhoven born Katie Jurnsie leads the event. She holds a slender lead over Eveliene Grootenhuis of Capitalizt SLANI by just one point. She started slowly but with three yellow shots in a row she rocketed up the leader-board, and with just 10 minutes to go, she took the lead from Grootenhuis with an expertly held bullseye.

Jurnsie will look to continue the good form and to try and earn Cyborg Holland's first medal of the games on the very first day. She has a bye in the first round of the Event, and will look to move further on with extra practice time tomorrow morning when the Ro64 is happening. Jane van Deer, a veteran of the Games at Lasft, however, has not performed as well. She lies in 54th place, with 638 points. Jenny Mackler looks very unlikely to do very well as she finished in 93rd, drawing 36th ranked Fausta Mazza of Carpathia and Ruthenia. van Deer drew 75th ranked Margaret Sakalien of Karditan.

In Gymnastics, Felix Andersen has qualified for the uneven bars finals after finishing with a score of 91.400. He looks outside to win, but could still pull an upset.

In Men's Football, The Dragons team drew with the Under-23 side of Saugeis. Despite many attacking opportunities, Cyborg Holland only managed a meagre 1-1 draw, and the goal came courtesy of an 88th minute Phillip Denbrandt penalty.

Women's football was more successful, where the Belle-Dragons beat Sargossa 2-0 in group 7. Jemma Coetzer scored twice in a convincing victory over Sargossa.

The Olympic Meddle

The games may be young but already Sargossa can claim a mighty victory as the hundreds of brave men and women of the Greater Republic's delegation tripped the red tarpaulin fantastic before totally enveloping the small number of hockey enthusiasts representing Salchar during the opening ceremony. Quite the ceremony it was too, although no more than you would expect from so sporty a nation as our hosts. The Krytenians have been a genuinely welcoming bunch which bodes well for the atmosphere for the next few weeks. Certainly their footballers will welcome the distraction.

The atmosphere in the Sports Ministry back in Soluca may not be quite as warm while Domingo Orbina sits through a whole load of what he calls 'fringe sports'. He ruthlessly cut funding at every opportunity to furnish his much vaunted athletics team but the lean and mean runners and jumpers don't stretch their muscular legs for some time yet. So Orbina can enjoy events like the Archery in which the Sargossan hobbyists performed poorly in the ranking round and then when slightly downhill from there. Which was followed by little in the opening Equestrian events and bugger all in the Judo and Fencing. But considering the collective authorities in charge of those events back home have barely two Đ5 notes to rub together that's probably to be expected.

Swimming, now there's an area that's seen a bit of extra cash thrown at it. There's sure to be some love in the pool. And sure enough Tiago Pereira was the sixth quickest in the heats of the 100m breaststroke. Worryingly for Señor Orbina that was as good as it got as not one of Pereira's team mate's even came close to worrying the later stages of the events. Not bad for an archipelago is it?

There was slightly better news in some of the events Sargossa enjoys at least a little pedigree. In the Table Tennis both Iván De la Vega and Enrique Esteva advanced through the first round in relative comfort, although José García Ramos was trounced by Bloodbath Generation's Huh Gak Shi. While the Volleyball was turned on its head as the highly fancied, and fanciable, women's indoor side suffered a shock defeat Mapletish at the same time as the men's beach team of Caballero and Alaniz, usually just making up the numbers, somehow contrived to actually win their opening match. And before the big opening ceremony Ernesto Farías' Under-23 team, featuring a core from his Campeonato Rushmori Juvenil Under-20 winning side, stuffed Cosumar 6 - 0 in their opening game of the football. Predictably the women fared less well, going down 2 - 0 to Cyborg Holland.

Jo kon Wah, one of Carmadin's elite table tennis players, sat in the stands. With a bye to the round of 64, he could sit back and watch some table tennis, that is, the rest of the field. He never knew, it was good to scout out possible competition.
He finally spotted who he was looking for- his protege Dahchehtur Loleht, who was warming up for a match with Liaaba Boaboa from the combined delegation of Vilita and Turori.
It would be his first test as a teacher, and he had to sit here and watch it.

Dahchehtur had first serve, he'd won the volley. All around, the other matches we underway. Not this one. Liaaba looked impatient, and Jo had to grin to himself. "Don't rush. Dictate the pace from the start". This definetly wasn't rushing.

Finally, Dahchehtur tossed the ball up, the paddle sweeping across to make contact.
Jo closed his eyes.

Dahchehtur Loleht made contact, the ball went over the net, and his first olympic match had begun.
He lost himself in the game, focusing only on the ball, and his paddle. He countered Liaaba's return, and had won the first point.

An hour later, he'd won the round of 128 matchup in straight sets.

Not too shabby.

KKR's Womens's coxless four can still win gold


The Khabarovsk Krai women's coxless four are confident they can improve sufficiently to overhaul Mesoland and win Olympic gold this summer. Despite Qualifying first in their heat, they know a lot more will be needed to beat the fastest qualifying Mesoland and the other strong teams of Thatius and The Polar Islandstates.

"We're not going to make any excuses for our performance, we know we need to be better," rower Isabel Kristbjörnsdóttir told KKR Online.

"We have to be careful because I think now there will be a whole lot of pressure for our four," Kristbjörnsdóttir added. "We are one of the favourites and we are supposed to be winning all the time.

"We have a silver medal time. None of us want that, of course, and if you think what the reality would be like if you crossed the line second on the day of the final, it would be four years of your life completely wasted.

"And it is not just what we have done, it is about the sort of people we are and what comes from the Olympic Games and competing here. It is life-defining. You will always look back at your life and regret it.

"The next block of training will be ruthless and hard, and we will scrutinise each other and test ourselves and try to get every little piece of technique and physical training done to the very best of our ability - and we will need to do that to win. "I am very confident that we can do that as a four. It is the right four women and we have all the ingredients. That'll be the best way to look at it."

Kristbjörnsdóttir's team-mate Alice Corrigan said: "We are not rowing as well as we can but we are very clear on what we need to do to make that distance up and we are very confident that we can do that. It is not a big deal, it is not a big panic for us, but it is a heads up that we need to get better.

"I think the fact that C's (coach Craig Brown) boats never tend to win the regatta penultimate to the big events is reflective of his training programme."

Jaka: Thanks, Cairistìona. The first medals had already been awarded in Men's Cycling with the host Krytenia grabbing the gold and Darmen and Zwagzung taking the silver and bronze, respectively. As for our countrymen who competed today most of their performances are largely mixed: all three athletes in Women's Foil Fencing were eliminated, but not without flagbearer and three-time Tedokan Fencing Champion Lanza del Relámpago and Fencer of Rank 5 Custodia Acardi reaching the round of 32, where they were defeated by Myka Bering of the Islands of Qutar and Cassie Carpenter of Cassadaigua, respectively.

Maninder: Well it looks like our fencers are still quite adjusting to Olympic-style fencing, which we all now is very different from our brand of fencing.

Jaka: That is possible, Manny. But I'm impressed that they have reached that far considering that this is Tedoka's Olympic debut. I remember the crowds are largely quiet during our turn at the opening ceremony.

Maninder: What with a relatively tiny delegation hailing from an almost unheard-of land (laughs). But yes, I agree with you that this is already remarkable work for a debuting delegation.

Jaka: And speaking of remarkable work, shooter Bhaskar Gorman has ranked second in the Qualifying round of the 10-meter Air Pistol event, giving him a clear shot at a medal in the final rounds. Jerónimo Roydon and the women at the 10m Air Rifle didn't make it though... (Replay footage of the shooters is shown)

Jan Grelker: Hi! And welcome to the Olympic Preview show here on CYBSports 1. All the glitz and the colour have come and gone with a splendid opening ceremony in Emberton. Day 1 came and went with good performances from Oskar Lukst, who has qualified for both of his events: The Singles Sculls events and the Double Sculls with Klaus Englebredt. They beat thier nearest rivals, L Sigurdson & O Hereward of the Icemark by over a second.

Peter Broen: Yes, it was a very commanding performance from those two, and they should try and push for a medal.

JG: Martin Schoorl qualified for the Men's 10m Air Pistol, coming 5th with 585 points. Tom Cooper and Louis van Cann qualified from the Ro128. Cooper more easily than Cann

PB: Yes! I was commentating from van Cann's match, he lost 11-1 in the first set, but then came back to win the next three.

JG: Well Peter, what have we got to look forward tomorrow morning?

PB: My Birthday...

JG: *ha!* No, medal wise

PB: Oh, right... Well. The Women's road race goes ahead with Siv Antonisen our best chance of an outside medal, although with adverse weather conditions, it looks unlikely. Women's Hockey gets underway as does the Men's handball. The Men's 8 will try to qualify for the finals, and they look very well prepared and ready for the games. They could well go all the way.

JG: Perhaps our best prospect will be Nena Richt, who will return to the pool to defend her 100m breast-stroke title in the heats at 10pm Amzterdam Time. The last event in the morning, for those night owls, commences at half past midnight, which is the Women's beach Volleyball MD1, which sees Cybog Dutch pairing of Margit Cuypers & Alvilda Romeijnsen, who are looking strong in thier group.

PB: My personal favourite, Tennis, gets underway tomorrow at 11:30, so i'll be drinking lots of coffee tomorrow.

JG: Olivia Schwambach carries the opes for us in that one. In the Afternoon session, which commences at 3:30am, will see Diana Wijen & Roberta Masenn compete in the Women's 3m Synchronised springboard event, but medals look like an outside chance for the young pair. Otherwise, it's fairly empty for CYB, with a few athletes with little to no chance of a finish.

Saturday 8th Morning Olympic Summary: FSSO Coxless Four thrill Emberton despite day of mixed fortunes

With the Olympic Games of Emberton officially underway, the FSSO continued with their quest for medals today.

On Saturday morning, we got off to a good start as the Men's Archery team won 217-200 against hosts Krytenia to proceed to the round of 16, where they will take on Polar Islandstates. Meanwhile the Women's Basketball team lost their first group stage fixture to Benjamin Mark 77-75 after a late 10 point rally by the eventual winners. However, the morning session was dominated by the first winning of medals in the Men's Cycling Road Race. Hosts Krytenia took the first gold as Jack Moxey stormed to victory by two seconds to the delight of the jubilant natives, while Scott Perry of Darmen took silver and Sasha Karoff-Kachham of Zwangzug took the bronze. Unfortunately, hotly tipped FSSO youngster Chad Wild and his brother Luke Wild failed to finish the race, although FSSO's third weel in the event did finish...in 84th.

FSSO's poor morning performance outside of archery continued. In the first Dressage Run for Equestrian Eventing, the best FSSO finisher was Lucius Bamrington in 22nd. In the Women's Individual Foil in Fencing, FSSO's Betty Glassman exited in the roundo of 128 against Taeshan's Kelly Gordon, although Francesca Hunt knocked out Singala Rikka of Vilitia by 10 points to 9 - only to be knocked in the next round by Delgado of Cafundeu. However, Sarah Dennis won her match in this round to keep the FSSO in medal contention; at least until the round of 32 where her Valanoran opponent beat her convincingly. The women's football team also suffered, exiting at the group stage after only one match. Miserable performances continued as Walter Sparkman exited the 60kg judo at the round of 16, while Danielle Hardman exited the Women's 48kg in the first round. Frustration within the camp continued to be exaserbated as initial results in the shooting went poorly - the FSSO was swept from the Men's 10m Air Pistol event, and highly touted Maxine Grillo only came came 7th in the qualifying stage of the Women's 10m Air Rifle event, albeit this is enough to see her through to the next round.

However, it was a Euran swimmer who would suffer the most excruciating fate in the morning. Lucius Barnes, a lowly rated 400m Freestyle swimmer on whom there was no expectation, exceeded all predictions of how he might fare by surging up the leaderboard in the heats for this event. Tragically though, he fell exactly two 100th seconds short of beating Vilitia's Klita Razafer and qualifying for the next round. Jessica Flanders, Harriet Bailey, Lucille Lewis and Jenny Parsons then came quite close to qualifying for the Women's 4x100m Freestyle Relay, only to miss out by 0.19 seconds. In the Men's Table Tennis Single's, the FSSO was more succesful. Nate Clay, Samuel Keener and Aaron Hankins all cruised to victory in the round of 128. There was no such luck for the Women's Indoor Volleyball team who lost their first group stage match against North Europa in controversial circumstances after the umpire awarded an out call in the other teams favour which turned the tide of the 4th set - despite video replays showing it to be in.

Finally joy arrived in the late morning and early afternoon period when delayed morning events commenced, as the the Men's Lightweight Coxless Four's team in the rowing exceeded all expectations to storm to first place in qualifying, marginally over a second faster than their nearest rival. It will be a tough ask to repeat this in the final, but nevertheless it was a performance which shocked many. There was also success in the Men's Single Sculls heats as Warren Potter qualified, although he and Nile Black as a pair fell just short of qualifying for the Men's Double Sculls. In the Women's Single Sculls, Constance Brand surprisingly made it past the first set of heats, although the Women's Coxless Four's team were comprehensively routed and failed to match their male counterparts.

Flag Bearers Kelly Clark and Sammy Shot, the most bad-ass Badminton Olympians who did not lose a single set, hand the Shofercian Flag to the King. The King blessed it, and handed it back to the Shofercian Girls. Then, Standard Bear Danny Ivanov presented the King with the Shofercian Standard; the King took it, blessed it, and handed it back to Shofercia's highest decorated athlete, Danny Ivanov. The Captain of the Shofercian Men's Volleyball Team, also a Gold Medal Olympian, approached the King with the King's Standard. The King took the Standard, saluted the Shofercians Olympic Team, saluted each Shofercian Olympic Team individually, and handed the Standard back to the Captain. The Shofercians split into two columns, saluting the King as the King passed by the Olympians, warmly greeting each and every one of the 333 members of Shofercia's Olympic Team, and making out with the Girlfriend, General Caitlin Damage. Then the King marched to the support staff. He was not competing, therefore the King was to march with the support staff, thus respecting the Olympic Traditions.

The Shofercians were now ready to march, and not a second too soon, because their team name was called. Kelly Clark and Sammy Shot headed out, carrying the huge Shofercian Flag, and raising their rackets high. They were followed by Danny Ivanov, carrying the Shofercian Standard, whose shoes were made in a manner to simulate the movement of golden waves. The Captain came next, with the King's Standard. Once they saw Kelly and Sammy, and the Shofercian Flag, the Shofercians stood up and cheered as loud as they could!

Mike Surfer and Matt Greene led the Diving delegation, which symbolically carried a springboard. Artem Vyushiny led the swimming delegation, who shoes matched those of Danny Ivanov. They were followed by the Water Polo Delegation, carrying a ball and two nets. The ball and the nets were richly decorated with symbols from Shofercian History, featuring Shofercian Armies fighting alongside the Natives against a common enemy.

Rob Hoodin headed the archery delegation, which jocularly carried a huge arrow, labeled "PATRIOT ARROW". Roman Brosayushii headed the Athletics Delegation, which was carrying a massive gold Javelin. On the Javelin there was a message: "Education is the pathway to success!"

Diana Howard head the Badminton Delegation, which was juggling badmintons on their racquets as they marched, which was most certainly not an easy task.

The Shofercian Basketball Delegation followed, holding a message that was written using basketballs: "TEAMWORK!"

Sharron Joye headed the Boxing Delegation, which carried two huge Golden Gloves with a jocular message: "Give me Victory, or give me Gold, the Spartans can have death!"

Nick Lomov and Mick Gnomov led the Canoeing Delegation, which carried a historic Shofercian Canoe, paying tribute to Shofercia's Rich Cultural Heritage.

Max Velosipedov led the Cycling Delegation, carrying wheels, with the writing "when we'll win something, we'll get a bike to carry!" attached. The Shofercian Cycling Delegation was the only one that failed to live up to expectations during the last Olympics, and, the current organizer had his revenge.

Megan Jumper lead the Equestrian Delegation, which carried the following message: "Our ponies might not talk, but they kick ass at being speedy!"

Thaddeus Rayman led the Shofercian Fencing Team, which was executing complex Foil, Epee' and Saber Drills as they marched.

The Shofercian Football Team came next, with a very special message: "Yeah, ok, acting's great, can we focus on playing Football now?"

Rod Remiasz led the Shofercian Gymnastics Team, that executed Gymnastic Stunts as the marched.

The Shofercian Handball Team followed, while juggling handballs.

The Field Hockey Team of Shofercia came next, led by the Woman's Field Hockey Team Captain.

The Judoists came next, led by Thomas Flichtmann and Vicky Torsheva. The Judoists carried a small platform, which they took turns climbing, and showing off their moves to the cheering crowd.

Next came the Penthatletes and Triathletes led by Bibi Zweifel. They held up a banner that said "Hard Work + Loyalty + Dedication = Success!"

The Rowers came next, led by Nastya Korobkina, and they carried a rowboat, while singing: "Row, row, row your boat..."

The Sailors, led by Sofia Plavatel, carried the Andreev Banner, thus saltuing the Shofercian Navy.

Caitlin Damage led the Shooters, with the men tossing up plates and the women shooting them as they marched.

The Tennis and Table Tennis Teams followed, led by Marlin Toor, carrying the banner with the words "Practice Makes Permanent" and of course their racquets.

The Taekwondo Team came next, and they followed the example set by the Shofercian Judo team.

The Volleyball Athletes, led by the Women's Team Captain, came next, tossing up volleyballs in the air, and sometimes, deliberately, throwing a few into the crowd.

The Wrestlers came next, led by Bob Stuckel, and jucularly showing off their muscles.

Take five: checkpoints to the podium

The Olympic Games are underway, and the first set of medals were awarded in the men's road cycling race. Jack Moxey, of the host delegation, took gold, beating out Scott Perry by two seconds. Sasha Karoff-Kachham was twenty-four seconds behind Perry for bronze. We got some soundbytes from the bronze medalist about the day so far.

1. Hit the ground running--though not literally.

"Obviously I wasn't doing too much of the ceremony stuff the night before. We'd gotten in a little early, those of us competing these first couple days, to avoid the jet lag and so I'd adjusted well enough. But it still hasn't sunk in, totally--I just don't know whether I can blame the jet lag!"

2. Pacing

"I got off to a really fast start and then about the second hour had to drop back a bit. It's one thing to practice on the same routes back home and know about how long, how fast you have to go when. But it's another thing to be in a new city going huh, look at that, kind of, and then suddenly realizing there's a lot more ahead of you. So there were a lot of us sticking pretty close for a while. But even then I was at the front, I'm not as used to riding in big groups as some of these people."

3. Soaking it in

"Westgate Park was nice-looking, I guess I'll get to come back now and really enjoy it more. The streets here obviously a little better-condition than home for riding cars if that's people's thing, but there was lots of green space to cut through so that was great."

4. The finish

"The Krytenians [Moxey and Darren Merenghi] were both cutting it close there. After a while that whole big group up had just slowly broken apart. I didn't realize how many people [over a quarter of the field] had already crashed out or given up by the end so I just kept going for it. The end came on really quickly so that was kind of a surprise, but I guess it worked out."

5. And the ceremony

"Well mostly by that point I was just exhausted, um, I was ready to sit down. And you know, there were a bunch of really talented racers, like there are every time. Myself among them obviously but I was lucky today, there were others who just didn't have their best showings. So no, it's not that I was caring about any of that flag stuff, but this was something I knew I, myself, was capable of and in the end it all paid off."

EMBERTON - Yeri Mikislavi has been routinely known to shy away from cameras. The young Vekaiyun swimmer has been fairly quiet while others were quick to speak and give opinion to V3 News Services. Mikiskavi, who hails from Provinsk, came off as cool and calculated on the morning of July 8th, and was perhaps what the Vekaiyun athletes needed as the swimmers began their trials and attempted to make it passed the heat rounds.

"No excuses," Yeri told reporters. "There are no more excuses nor will these excuses will be tolerated. [Vekaiyu] has made it to three Summer Olympics. In the first one we were second [in swimming events]. There was a lot of pressure because it was our first visit. We didn't do well next year in swimming because of the pressure from the first Olympics. Now there's no pressure, because people's expectations are lowered. We need to stop making excuses and just do what our nation wants us to do."

Mikislavi's statement seems to be full of frustration. Vekaiyu had stunned participating nations in 2010 when they won five gold medals, three silver, and three bronze, good enough for second overall behind host nation and rival in The East Pacific Kelssek. The nation stumbled, however, in 2011 when they only managed two gold, one silver, and one bronze, tying with Kernansquillec for fifth overall (Kelssek finished first in 2011 as well). A number of reasons for this decline has been broadcasted by Vekaiyun swimmers, ranging from the pressures from a successful 2010 campaign, to the competition being much more potent in 2011 than in 2010, and even from some athletes believing their 2011 swimming uniforms saw a decline in quality from the 2010 variants.

Mikislavi, however, was never a part of the 2010 squad. He was one of the late additions to the team following a series of competitions used by Vekaiyu to solve the logjam of swimmers the nation wanted to send to Lasft. While few names on the female side changed, the Vekaiyun male swimmers welcomed athletes Levo Navikala, Ilo Yeskuviye, and Frankyo Busirvi. Such swimmers did well in the Water World games held in Civil Citizenry, but there is little doubt the younger swimmers are tired of yoking the unspoken blame for Vekaiyu's dip in performance last year. Luckily, the storyline of improved gymnastics seemed to take the warm and at times uncomfortable spotlight off of them, but with a new year brings new competition and new hopes for this squad.

"There's no doubt we're expected to perform," Frankyo Busirvi said prior to today. "They're expecting us to solve our problems from last year. We're going to do just that."

It's unclear how the other swimmers reacted to his statement, because later that day many had to put his words behind them and focus on performing. However, their records seem to indicate they took his message to heart. Of the eleven entrants that competed in the morning of Day One, seven made it through the heat stage - a dramatic improvement from last year's numbers. Mikislavi passed in both his heats.

The first official morning (there's a morning and afternoon schedule) of the Olympics has finished. It started off with an amazing opening ceremony, where all countries' delegations were presented to the people in the Isserson Olympic Stadium in the host city Emberton. The Chenkoryan delegation was pretty well-received by the people in the crowd, it is possible that the only yelling people were the Chenkoryans in the stadium themselves. There have not been a lot of medal events yet, so we can only report about the qualifying stages, et cetera.

After the opening ceremony in Emberton, the first event started, it was team's archery. The Chenkoryan team existed out of Blumenthal, König and Schlender, the team of mediocre quality failed to get into the round of 16, they were defeated in the round of 32 by Ad'ihan, who will now face Euskirribakondara. Only Alexander Blumenthal might do it well in the individual event, which would make him the first Chenkoryan to win a medal in archery.

The very good, and gold medalists from the previous Olympics, Chenkoryan women's basketball team weren't playing today, but the event did start today though, we did get a bye on the first matchday. The first match in our group, group five, was played, and FSSO was beaten by Benjamin Mark, with just two points difference though. It is most likely that the Chenkoryan team will survive this group, and hopefully succeed to the next phase. The also very good Chenkoryan women's handball team was also not playing today, only group 1-4 played their first matches, while Chenkorya is in group 5.

The first boxing events did also take place today, in the men's bantamweight group, Samuel Andela did not have to participate in the first round. Also Marjan Lémieux, who has a very big chance to win one of the medals in his events, did not have to "play" yet in his category, the men's heavyweight.

On the first day of the Seventh Summer Olympics, the road race in the cycling event did take place, which is always a very interesting thing to watch, one of the most interesting things actually. There were four Chenkoryans participating, all not extremely talented, and not in for the win. Our best placing was by Lucjan Asjes, who was actually expected to do the worst of the three Chenkoryans. On spot 60 we saw Pranciskus van Middelburg, and on 61 Tivadar Feldt finished. van Middelburg; "I didn't expect a medal, but I am a bit disappointed though. Everyone would be!" The first medalists of the Olympics were Jack Moxey from Krytenia, Scott Perry from Darmen, and Sasha Karoff-Kachham from Zwangzug.

In the Equestrian event, two Chenkoryans participated, in the eventing event. Equestrian is one of the least-loved sports in the Chenkoryan Republic, although we did win a medal in it previous Olympics. Also this year, we have a contender; Lien Tobias, but Lien did not participate yet. In this event we had Danielius van Daal, who finished at spot number 100, and Fricis Rademakers finished a bit higher, at spot 35.

Fencing, too! The women had the first event today, the individual foil, and there were three Chenkoryan women in it. All of them reached the second round, the round of 64, but only one of them survived that round too. It was Daniela Achilles, who lost out to Meaghan Davenport from Cassadaigua in the round of 32. Achilles; "It's a pity, I mean, it's been a long time training and all, and now you're knocked out, that's hard. Anyway, nobody expected me to do well, so anyway... it must be harder for Izolda, she was seen as a favourite!"

The next sport of the day was Judo, starting with the men's 60 kg. Milan Arts was participating today in that event. The 22 year old couldn't get further than one match; the quite bad judoka was defeated by Antoniopolous from Lymantatia. In the women's 48 kg, we had VERY high expectations for Regina Strauss, the incredibly talented judoka who won the national championships. Regina wasn't as incredibly talented as we thought; she was knocked out after a single match, by Kathleen Redford from Kelssek, who was an unlucky draw for Regina. Kathleen won all matches and will now participate in the semifinals.

Shooting! This scary sport started today too! Kajetan Pásztor and Savva Bokori were the two athletes representing Chenkorya in the men's air rifle event. Although Pásztor, made a promising start, he did worse later, which made him 24th, instead of the 10th place he needed to qualify. Bokori finished 37th. The women's air rifle tournament was probably the best thing of the day so far, finally a Chenkoryan qualified for the final, Olga Pender finished 4th, and will compete in the final. Trena Król finished almost last.

Also watery sports were taking place today; swimming! The day started off with the men's 400m, where Naum Ansing managed to qualify for the semifinals, finishing on the 11th place. Ansing; "I am very happy, although not satisfied. I will do better in the semifinals, I promise!" His best friend Mikolas Winograd did not manage to qualify; he finished 52nd, although we had high expectations for him too. The men's 100m Breaststroke was a lot less satisfying; Yefrem Kruse who was at least expected to qualify, finished 34th, Alexandr Giel finished almost last. Patrick Schuyler and Ales Bordelon did make their Olympic début at the 400m Individual Medley, although their Olympic adventure wasn't a long one; they finished at the spots 47 and 64. The women's also made their swimming start today; Hed Schwarzenberg and Céleste Janz participated in the 100m Buttefly today, but both failed to qualify. Janz; "I was expecting so much more from this, this is a dream falling into pieces. I am afraid I won't get the chance to prove myself again next year." Odysseus Salvai approves. Céleste was quite close to qualifying though. Another individual medley for the women's, 400m. Maja Heimans finished 18th, not enough to qualify, and her friend Kinga Maessen, finished 52nd. The relay for women did also take place today! The team Berkovich / Ivankova / Szabolcsi and Maessen weren't expected to do very well; and they were one of the first Chenkoryans to actually listen to their expectations today; they finished 35 out of 41.

Chenkorya had some medals in table tennis last year, but with the new delegation, all table tennis superpowers are gone. The men had Dieter and Fuhrmann today, but both were knocked out in the first round. Friede Bul is one of the table tennis women that do stand a chance, but she did not compete yet.

Volleyball was hold today too. The men's indoor team from Chenkorya is extremely good this year, but the women's team does not stand a chance. Only the women's competition started today, but the purple-yellows are not in the first four groups. There also was men's beach today, but the Chenkoryan duo Kool / Rothbauer weren't in the first few groups.

Rowing is another unknown sport in Chenkorya, and there are just a few rowers in Chenkorya, and only three duos are going to Emberton this year. Kálmar and Vogt were rowing today though, in the double sculls event, and suprisingly the mediocre duo qualified for the repechage round.

This was it for this morning, now run to your TV, to see the women's basketball team playing, Sergei Takács boxing, Dobromil Köhler hopefully advancing to the round of 32 in boxing, and Moran Biermann probably not getting through the round of 64. The Chenkoryan women's handball team will hopefully win it's first match, Regina Strauss might get to the semifinals via repechage actually, the rowing quartet Kostelecky, Bachmeier, Loewe and Dzidzic rowing in the heats, Olga Pender also hopefully winning a medal in the air rifle final. Naum Ansing can also win a medal in the 400m freestyle semifinal, also Friede the table tennis player will make her Olympic début, and see three Chenkoryans tennissing. The stack of papers, Marta could count at least six, was heavy enough to make a noticeable sound as they were dropped on the low table. She sat on the couch, absolutely still, with her hands interlinked and resting in her lap. She leaned forward just slightly so her back didn't rest on the back of the couch, and her eyes were fixed downwards towards the floor.

"What. Were. You. Thinking?"

Each word was emphasized and the tension was obvious in the speakers voice. She didn't have to look up to recognize the speaker, she could have picked the Olympic Presidents voice out of a crowd. It was an oddly low voice, almost like a rumble. Generally it was a pleasant rumble, Clyde Richardson was usually considered to be a kind man and his voice reflected that. Not now though, not the voice was obviously angry.

"Well? Do you have an explanation?"

Marta kept her head down and mouth shut. She wasn't sure what to say really. The thing was, she didn't have an explanation. At least not one that would be accepted.

"That's what I thought. You don't even have an explanation, do you?"

It was as if he had read her mind. She opened her mouth slightly, thinking of arguing the point, but then closed it again. She realized that he probably didn't want to actually hear her explanation.

"You realize that Mr. Martin can sue you, don't you? You haven't just tarnished the reputation of our team here, you have set yourself up for some troubles as well. Maybe thinking about that will do something to loosen your tongue up?"

"It's not that..." She began to speak, her words coming out slowly. "I mean, I know I shouldn't..." The pauses between each word were long, it was obvious that she was fighting to find the right words to use. "He shouldn't have...", another pause here, "I know there is no...". She shook her head lightly from side to side. At least Clyde was being quiet, wise enough not to interrupt her now that she was finally beginning to speak. "What I mean to say is..", she paused, taking a big breath before continuing...

"What I mean to say is, I don't regret it. He should have had better sense...I know it looks bad and I know they are angry at me. But damnit! I'm stressed enough without some idiot from the CFP harassing me just a minute after...Really! What they heck was he thinking? The only thing I'm sorry about is how this all looks. Its just a reaction, he isn't permanently hurt, so who cares? Why was he even back there?"

A huge exhale as she finished, having not paused to breath during her rant. She finally looked up, her eyes finally making contact with the Olympic chiefs as he opened his mouth to respond. "I figured as much. And to be honest, I can't really blame." He actually cracked a smile now, completely confusing Marta. "Why the look of surprise? I was an athlete once too, remember? I can understand the stress and the emotion. And you are right, he shouldn't have been back in that corridor, his press pass didn't give him that sort of clearance. But still, you were in the wrong, and the press will have a field day with this."

"But...what does that mean for me? Do I get to stay?"

"Yes, of course. Mind you there will have to be some sort of symbolic punishment, to satisfy the press a bit."

Her relief became more and more pronounced as her fears of being sent home melted away. "What sort of punishment are we talking about?"

"Well, for one, you will have to surrender your captaincy, but that shouldn't really matter to much? Does it?"

She shook her head. It was a price she was more than willing to pay. "No, that is fine. I can live with that."

"Good. We will talk more later probably. For the mean time you are no longer your teams Captain, but you will continue to play and start, assuming that it fits your coaches plans for the game."

  • Men's Team Archery: Darmen was able to defeat the Babbage Islands, 213-205 in the Round of 64, but fell to Shofercia in the Round of 32, 218-214. It was a good showing for the Darmeni team, but no one expected them to contest for a medal.

  • Men's Cycling-Road Race: Darmen is building somewhat of a dynasty in cycling, claiming it's second silver medal in the Men's Road Race in as many years. This time however it was Scott Perry who took home the silver medal, as last years silver medalist, Lukas Vogler, finished in 39th. Darmen's third rider, Sterling Jones, finished in 27th, along with two other riders. Perry had held the lead through much of the race, leaving the peloton after riding for only 12km. He was caught by Krytenian cyclist Jack Moxey in the last kilometer, and was defeated in the sprint for the finish line by two seconds.

  • Equestrian-Eventing-Dressage One: Godeon Gross led all of the Darmeni riders, finishing in 68th with a score of 51.7. Quân Shine finished in 86th with a score of 53.4, while Dušan Laterza finished 111th, with a score of 56.7. Tomasz Ackerman finished 121st, with a score of 58.2, followed by Amílcar Knopf in 128th, with a score of 61.3. In the team standings, Darmen has a score of 161.8, third from the bottom.

  • Women's Indoor Volleyball: Darmen defeated Civil Citizenry in five sets, 18-25, 26-24, 25-20, 24-26, 15-10. Darmen sits in third place of Group Three, behind West Guiana and The Kytler Peninsulae.
